MJD: Matt Schaub can take us to Super Bowl

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(4/2/2014) Perhaps it's wishful thinking, but new Raiders running back Maurice Jones-Drew said Matt Schaub is a Super Bowl-caliber quarterback.

"You can definitely (make the Super Bowl with Matt Schaub at quarterback)," Jones-Drew said on SiriusXM Radio. "(Schaub) has something to prove this year. ... I know Matt Schaub is a guy who can lead us."

Schaub threw 10 touchdowns and 14 interceptions with the Texans last year, tossing a pick-six in four straight games.

Report: Teams expressing interest in Terrelle Pryor

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3/27/2014) The Raiders have received some interest on the trade market for quarterback Terrelle Pryor, according to a FOXSports.com report Thursday.

Oakland still plans to release Pryor by April if they cannot find a taker, but this is the first sign we have had that they might be able to trade him before that. Pryor has been buried on the depth chart by the acquisition of Matt Schaub, and has requested a trade.

Pryor is still just 24 and coming off a decent enough season. He started nine games for the Raiders, racking up 1,798 yards on 57.4 percent passing, with seven touchdowns and 11 interceptions, while also rushing for 576 yards and two touchdowns. He is due just $705,000 next season, which could make finding a trade partner easier.

Terrelle Pryor could be traded or released soon

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(3/24/2014) With the Raiders planning to start Matt Schaub at quarterback, general manager Reggie McKenzie suggested Terrelle Pryor could be traded or released soon, reports the San Jose Mercury News. Pryor has asked for a trade because he wants a chance to start, according to Fox Sports.

In 11 games last season, Pryor accounted for nine touchdowns and 13 turnovers while completing 57.4 percent of his throws.

Raiders will listen to offers for Terrelle Pryor

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(2/19/2014) The Raiders could be in the market to trade quarterback Terrelle Pryor, reports the Contra Costa Times.

The report says the Raiders "will listen to offers" for Pryor, who is under contract for one more season. Oakland is expected to find a new starting quarterback for 2014 whether through the draft or free agency.

Raiders GM dissatisfied with quarterbacks on current roster

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1/17/2014) Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie indicated that his team's franchise quarterback is not currently on the roster. He all but dismissed Terrelle Pryor and Matt McGloin, who both failed to assume control of the position in 2013.

"We've got two young players who played this year (and) from an experience standpoint there wasn't any, so neither of them stepped up and said, 'I'm the frachise quarterback,'" he told ESPN. "So absolutely, we're going to always continue to upgrade and find that guy. Now how we find them, we'll figure that out in the next few months."

The Raiders own the No. 5 pick in the 2014 draft, but top three college quarterbacks Teddy Bridgewater, Johnny Manziel and Blake Bortles could be off the board by the time they select. That leads to speculation that the Raiders are open to trading up to get their quarterback.

Terrelle Pryor cans agent

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1/15/2014) Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor has fired agent Jerome Stanley, who raised eyebrows by criticizing coach Dennis Allen for starting his client in Week 17 after having benched him.

Allen survived a poor season and will coach the team again in 2014. Pryor will likely not be retained, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Raiders sign three to future deals

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1/2/2014) The Raiders have signed reserve/future deals with quarterback Trent Edwards and defensive linemen David Carter and Torell Troup.

Dennis Allen not sold on his quarterbacks

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/30/2013) Dennis Allen, who expects to return as Raiders' coach in 2014, said he's not sure the team's quarterback of the future is on the roster. "Yeah, well, I think that's a position that we've got to make sure that we address," Allen said, per ESPN.com.

"I'm not sure that we have the quarterback of the future in the building right now, but again I think we'll go through the offseason evaluation process, I think we'll go back through all the tapes, we'll comb through everything. I do think we have a better idea of what we have at the quarterback position, but again I think, listen, that's the most important position on the football field."

Terrelle Pryor started 10 games for Oakland, Matt McGloin six.

Terrelle Pryor scores two late-game TDs in finale

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/29/2013) Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor shouldered the load as he led the team in passing and rushing during Sunday’s blowout home loss to the Broncos in Week 17.

Pryor was held out of the end zone during the first three quarters. He snapped out of his funk with a 14-yard touchdown strike to Rod Streater in the fourth quarter. With 46 seconds remaining, Pryor found Nick Kasa in the end zone for a 9-yard touchdown.

Pryor completed 21 of 38 passes for 207 yards, with two touchdowns and no interceptions in a 34-14 defeat. He finished the season with 1,798 passing yards, with seven touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He also rushed for 527 yards and two touchdowns.

Terrelle Pryor a sneaky play Week 17

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/24/2013) Raiders brass is giving quarterback Terrelle Pryor one final chance to impress them. He gets his first start since Week 10 on Sunday vs. Denver, and don't be surprised if the third-year pro succeeds.

Pryor completed 19 of 28 throws for 281 yards and a touchdown Week 3 at Denver, adding 36 yards on four carries. He did not turn the ball over.

Now fully recovered from his sprained knee, Pryor could put up big numbers in the potential shootout. He was the leading rusher among quarterbacks when he got hurt Nov. 3. The Broncos give up the 9th-most Fantasy points (20.4 per game) to opposing QBs, and Pryor put up 20 Fantasy points in the first meeting.

"We want to be able to evaluate Terrelle, so here's an opportunity to go in and do that," coach Dennis Allen told the Oakland Tribune. "Listen, when Terrelle's played, he's gone in and done a good job. So we anticipate he'll go in and play well."

Allen did not commit to playing Pryor the whole game, so Matt McGloin could rotate in. Pryor needs to start fast to deliver Fantasy value. CBSSports.com senior Fantasy expert Jamey Eisenberg rates Pryor the highest this week, 15th among quarterbacks.

Terrelle Pryor in, Matt McGloin out for Week 17

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/23/2013) Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor has returned to the starting job with which he began the year. Dennis Allen announced that he will replace recent starter Matt McGloin with Pryor for the season finale against Denver.

Pryor threw eight interceptions and just one touchdown in four starts from Weeks 6-10, but McGloin also struggled after a strong start. He threw for four scores and eight picks in his last five games, all losses.

Matt McGloin throws no touchdowns

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/22/2013) After tossing a pair of touchdowns in each of his previous two games, Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin did not produce any scores in the Week 16 loss at San Diego. He finished 20 of 36 for 207 yards with an interception, adding a 5-yard run.

In seven games, McGloin has accounted for eight touchdowns and nine turnovers. He's completed under 60 percent of his throws in three straight games. McGloin should have had a late touchdown pass, but fullback Marcel Reece dropped it.

McGloin plays the Broncos in Week 17.

Terrelle Pryor does little as backup in Week 15

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/15/2013) Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor got some work during Sunday's blowout loss to the Chiefs in Week 15.

Pryor came in for Matt McGloin on a goal-line situation in the first quarter, but couldn't capitalize. Pryor lost 3 yards on a quarterback keeper, but a flag for a facemask kept the drive alive. On the next play, Pryor handed the ball off to Rashad Jennings, who leaped over the pile for a 1-yard touchdown.

Pryor saw some more work in the second half and replaced Matt McGloin for the final eight minutes of the game. He completed 1 of 4 passes for no touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 19 yards on three carries in a 56-31 defeat.

Matt McGloin picked off four times in loss to Chiefs

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/15/2013) Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin had some issues with his accuracy in an up-and-down performance during Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs in Week 15.

McGloin was picked off by Eric Berry twice in the first half, who returned the first interception back for an Oakland score in the opening quarter. McGloin also lost a fumble in the second quarter. McGloin bounced back in the third quarter with a 6-yard touchdown pass to Andre Holmes and a 14-yard touchdown pass to Mychal Rivera. He was then picked off twice more in the final quarter and was benched for Terrelle Pryor for the final eight minutes of the game.

McGloin completed 18 of 36 passes for 297 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions. He finished with a 57.1 passer rating in a 56-31 defeat.

Matt McGloin not a reliable option for Week 15

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/12/2013) Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin will look to stay sharp, although he may lose some snaps heading into a difficult matchup in Week 15 against the Chiefs.

McGloin threw for multiple touchdowns for the second time this season in Week 14 against the Jets. He's been named the starter but the Raiders have not ruled out using Terrelle Pryor in a few drives as part of the gameplan.

McGloin will face a Kansas City defense that has allowed 244.6 passing yards per game, which ranks 19th in the league. Opposing quarterbacks have scored 18.00 Fantasy points per game against the Chiefs this season. McGloin should not be viewed as a reliable option for Week 15.

Matt McGloin to remain starting QB for Week 15

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/9/2013) Although the Raiders suffered a third straight defeat Sunday against the Jets, coach Dennis Allen said Matt McGloin will remain the starting quarterback heading into Week 15 vs. Kansas City. McGloin is 1-3 as a starter, throwing for 200-plus yards in three straight games and totaling six touchdowns to three interceptions in his four starts.

Terrelle Pryor plays for one series Week 14

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/8/2013) Raiders backup quarterback Terrelle Pryor got into the mix Week 14 at N.Y. Jets, but he appeared for just one drive in the first half during a 37-27 loss. Pryor led Oakland on a 14-play, 58-yard scoring drive that started late in the first quarter and ended early in the second quarter with a 41-yard field goal.

Pryor completed 2 of 5 passes for 20 yards, while rushing three times for 4 yards. He came close twice to throwing for a touchdown on his only drive. But a 15-yard touchdown pass to Rod Streater was batted away by the defense, and a 23-yard touchdown pass to Andre Holmes fell incomplete because of a bad pass by Pryor.

Coach Dennis Allen explained after the game why Pryor only appeared for the one series.

"Obviously, Terrelle moved the ball downfield for us," Allen said, per The San Francisco Chronicle. "But we really had something going with Matt (McGloin) in the second half."

Matt McGloin throws for two TDs in Week 14 loss

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/8/2013) Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin had his second career multi-passing touchdown game Week 14 at N.Y. Jets, but Oakland still lost to New York, 37-27. McGloin completed 18 of 31 passes for 245 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, while rushing for 20 yards on two carries.

McGloin played most of the game, but did sit out for one series in the first half so the Raiders could get Terrelle Pryor some work. On McGloin's first series back, he threw an interception deep in Oakland's own territory, which New York returned to the Raiders' 4-yard line.

Both of McGloin's touchdowns came in the second half. He had an 48-yard touchdown pass to Rod Streater in the third quarter. McGloin threaded a pass between two defenders, and Streater took care of the rest. McGloin then had a 1-yard touchdown pass to Mychal Rivera late in the fourth quarter on a 4th-and-goal play.

McGloin's best chance for a three-touchdown game came on a 22-yard pass into the end zone in the fourth quarter. However, his pass intended for Jacoby Ford was badly underthrown, resulting in an incomplete pass.

The Raiders are back in action Week 15 vs. Kansas City.

Matt McGloin might finally get second multi-TD game

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/4/2013) Thus far, Raiders rookie quarterback Matt McGloin has been a one-week wonder since he hasn't made much noise since throwing for three touchdowns Week 11 at Houston. McGloin has one touchdown and two interceptions in his last two starts -- both losses.

McGloin will look to record his second multi-touchdown game Week 14 at N.Y. Jets. The chances of him getting it done are better than you might expect since quarterbacks have fared pretty well against New York. Quarterbacks average 271.8 passing yards and 19.8 Fantasy points per week against the Jets.

More importantly, quarterbacks have recorded multiple touchdowns against the Jets in six of the last nine games. In all, quarterbacks have totaled 22 passing touchdowns to seven interceptions.

McGloin has kept the Raiders in the game in both of their recent defeats, which is why he continues to hold onto the starting job despite the lack of touchdowns. He's also starting to build rapport with his receivers, more notably Rod Streater and Andre Holmes, so maybe another strong performance is in the cards Sunday.

It seems McGloin has the chance to post pretty good numbers Week 14 given the matchup, but he's still more of a low-end Fantasy option.

Raiders still want to see Terrelle Pryor

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11/30/2013) Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin has played well enough to remain the starter at quarterback, but that doesn't mean we have seen the last of Terrelle Pryor this season. According to CSNCalifornia.com, the team has some packages they would like to put Pryor in in order to evaluate his development.

"I don't think Matt's done anything to play himself out of that position," coach Dennis Allen said. "I think as Terrelle gets more and more healthy, to be able to see him more involved in the offense is something that we'll continue to look at. I think Matt has gone in and handled himself pretty well. Really, in every game that he's been the starting quarterback, we've had an opportunity to win those football games."

McGloin has started the last three games since Pryor went down with a knee injury, and Allen sounds as if he isn't quite sure where Pryor is at right now. Pryor was available over the last two games, but did not see the field.

"Injuries are a tough thing," Allen said. "They're hard to account for. You don't know how things are going to respond and how quickly people are going to get back. Obviously, not getting action against the Titans was good rest for him. With the short week, and again, only having 20 plays in the second half, we weren't able to get him involved in the offense. But I think that’s something we want to look at moving forward, but we'll see how that plays out."

Matt McGloin denied touchdown in Week 13 loss

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/28/2013) For the first time in three career starts, Raiders rookie quarterback Matt McGloin failed to throw a touchdown pass during a 31-24 loss Week 13 at Dallas. McGloin completed 18 of 30 passes for one interception.

McGloin was credited with a 16-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Andre Holmes in the second quarter. However, the play was reviewed and the officials took the touchdown away after ruling Holmes' knee was down before he stretched the football across the goal line. One play later, Rashad Jennings had a 1-yard touchdown run.

McGloin had an efficient first half, completing 11 of 15 passes for 146 yards. He had a 103.8 quarterback rating as Oakland led 21-14 at the half.

McGloin was going for his first touchdown pass in the second half when a 20-yard pass into the end zone targeted for Jacoby Ford was picked off by Dallas cornerback Brandon Carr. It was McGloin's second interception in as many games.

The Raiders are back in action Week 14 at N.Y. Jets.

Is favorable matchup enough to consider starting Matt McGloin?

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/26/2013) Raiders rookie quarterback Matt McGloin will be playing on a national stage Week 13, as Oakland travels to Dallas for a Thanksgiving showdown. McGloin fell short of improving to 2-0 as a starter Sunday, as Oakland lost 23-19 vs. Tennessee, so he now focuses on getting win No. 2 Thursday.

From a Fantasy standpoint, this is a favorable matchup for McGloin on paper. The Cowboys are yielding 24.1 Fantasy points per week to quarterbacks, which is the highest average. Quarterbacks have totaled 22 passing touchdowns in 11 games against Dallas, including six in the last two games.

Another bonus for McGloin is that the Dallas secondary is expected to be without cornerback Morris Claiborne because of a hamstring injury and linebacker Sean Lee might also be out again because of a hamstring injury.

The bad news for McGloin, however, is he could be down two top targets in wide receiver Denarius Moore (shoulder) and tight end Mychal Rivera (concussion) due to injuries.

It's definitely a favorable matchup on paper and McGloin is just two weeks removed from throwing three touchdowns. But unless you are looking for a Hail Mary play at quarterback Week 13, it's probably best to consider other Fantasy options over McGloin.

Matt McGloin to make third straight start Week 13

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/25/2013) Though Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin fell short in leading Oakland to a second straight win Sunday against the Titans, coach Dennis Allen said the rookie quarterback will start again Thursday at Dallas (Week 13).

"Yeah, I thought Matt played well," Allen said, per ESPN. "And for him to lead us back when we needed a touchdown, he got us the touchdown we needed to give us the lead. We just couldn’t hold it defensively."

Matt McGloin has up-and-down game vs. Titans

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(11/24/2013) Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin had an up-and-down performance during Sunday's loss to the Titans at home in Week 12.

McGloin was picked off by Zach brown late in the first quarter, which led to a Tennessee field goal. He then bounced back as he hooked up with Marcel Reece in the end zone for a 27-yard strike late in the fourth quarter for his only touchdown of the game. He completed all four of his pass attempts during his touchdown drive. McGloin completed 19 of 32 passes for 260 yards with one touchdown and one interception in a 23-19 defeat. He finished the game with an 82.8 quarterback rating.

He'll look to get back on track in Week 13 at Dallas on Thanksgiving.

Terrelle Pryor will serve as backup QB

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(11/24/2013) Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor was ruled active and will serve as the team's backup quarterback in Week 12 against the Titans. Matt McGloin will get the start under center.
