Jonathan Martin ready to fill in as starting tackle

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(9/6/2014) The loss of Anthony Davis to a hamstring injury will likely result in Jonathan Martin take over at right tackle for the 49ers against Dallas on Sunday.

Martin who was acquired for a conditional seventh-round pick from Miami in the offseason, would be making his first appearance on an NFL field since Oct. 27, after which he left the Dolphins in the midst of a bullying scandal.

"I want to go out there and play a good game, you know," Martin told the team website, which is claiming that Martin improved as the preseason progressed. "Get off on the right foot, start the season right. Anthony is still the starter, but I'm going to play my best. I've started before in this league, so I'm confident in my ability and I'm excited to get it going."

Jonathan Martin acquired by 49ers

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3/11/2014) The 49ers have acquired offensive lineman Jonathan Martin for a conditional draft pick from the Dolphins Tuesday, according to ESPN.com. According to the report, the Dolphins will receive a 7th-round pick from the 49ers in 2015 if Martin makes the opening 53-man roster.

Martin was at the center of a firestorm when he left the Dolphins in the middle of last season citing bullying issues within the team. This move reunites him with his college head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Differing reports on Jonathan Martin's future with Miami

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(2/13/2014) While NFL Network reports that it's "not impossible" for embattled offensive lineman Jonathan Martin to return to the Dolphins, the Miami Herald believes there's no chance of a return. Martin left the team last season citing locker room issues that mainly included bullying by teammate Richie Incognito.

The Herald surmises that several Dolphins players were unhappy with how Martin left the team and that they might not welcome him back. The paper also noted that if the team welcomed Martin back then the message it would send to the roster could be devastating as anyone could just pick up and leave the team without serious repercussions.

Drug references peppered in texts between Dolphins mates

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1/31/2014) The following exchange of texts last summer with drug references were sent between Dolphins bullying scandal headliners Richie Incognito and Jonathan Martin, per the Palm Beach Post:

July 29, 2013, Incognito to Martin: "Pop a couple Molly (ecstacy) I'm sweeeeatin."

August 31, 2013, Martin as Incognito is trying to coax him into a double-date: "My friend Mary Jane (marijuana) has me glued to the couch. Incognito: "F***** stoner. Take a shower and get ur a** down here. These bit**** are ready."

Drug-related texts continued between the two in September.

Report: Jonathan Martin uncooperative in NFLPA query

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1/30/2014) Jonathan Martin never cooperated with an National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) investigation into the Dolphins bullying scandal that plagued him and the franchise in 2013, per USA Today.

Martin refused to speak with NFLPA attorney Richard Smith, who interviewed witnesses and examined the role of Miami management in the alleged abuse of the former Dolphins offensive lineman.

"We weren't able to talk to Jonathan Martin, which was unfortunate," said NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith. "But we're going to conduct our workplace evaluation and our report is concluding."

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(1/30/2014) Dolphins offensive lineman Jonathan Martin is ready to start up his career again, according to the Sun Sentinel.

Martin discussed his time in Miami, saying he talked to coaches about his concerns, but was afraid to approach head coach Joe Philbin. Martin said he tried to be friends with Incognito. He added that he didn't want to be the type of player that snitches on his teammates. When Dungy asked Martin to prove he was ready to play, Martin responded, "I'm looking you in the eye and telling you I'm ready to play."

Jonathan Martin: Bullying went beyond normal hazing

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1/29/2014) Former Dolphins offensive lineman Jonathan Martin has detailed his charges of harrassment and bullying against teammates that caused him to leave the team. He expressed his views in an interview with former NBC analyst and former NFL coach Tony Dungy.

"There were persistent comments of a racial nature, aggressive sexual comments related to my sister and my mother," Martin said. "I've spoken to my former teammates in other locker rooms across the country and I asked them, does this stuff go on? Is this normal looking razzing. The consensus was, this is not normal."

Martin added that the harrassment was meted out by others aside from fellow offensive lineman Richie Incognito, who was suspended on Nov. 3 for conduct detrimental to the team. An NFL investigation is ongoing.
