Browns issue inactives for exhibition opener

(8/9/2014) The Browns reveled a list of players that will miss Saturday's preseason opener against the Lions in Detroit: rookie cornerback Justin Gilbert (groin), wide receivers Travis Benjamin (knee) and Nate Burleson (hamstring), free safety Tashaun Gipson (knee), defensive end Billy Winn (abdomen) and tight end Jordan Cameron (shoulder).

(8/2/2014) Mike Pettine has reported that the knee sprain sustained Friday by Browns safety Tashaun Gipson is not serious and he should return to action by midweek.

Gipson is the likely starter this season at the free safety position after flashing a year ago with five interceptions in 15 starts.

(8/1/2014) Browns starting free safety Tashaun Gipson left Friday's practice with an apparent left knee injury, reports the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The severity of the injury was not known.

Gipson started 15 games last year and made five interceptions.

(12/15/2013) Browns safety Tashaun Gipson intercepted Jay Cutler twice in Sunday's 38-31 loss to the Bears. He returned a second quarter pick 44 yards for a touchdown. 

The interceptions bring Gipson's total up to four on the season. The touchdown was the first of his career. 

The Browns face the Jets in Week 16. 


Tashaun Gipson contributes key pick against Lions

(10/13/2013) Browns free safety Tashaun Gipson was at the right place at the right time late in the third quarter of the loss to Detroit on Sunday. He snagged a Matthew Stafford pass tipped by cornerback Buster Skrine and raced 35 yards with it from the end zone in a fine overall effort.

Gipson finished the game with seven tackles, including four solos, and a pass defensed.

(9/29/2013) Browns defensive back Tashaun Gipson had a solid performance in Week 4, in a 17-6 win over the Bengals. Gipson picked up six tackles -- three solo -- in his second-most productive game of the season. Gipson also had three passes defended in the game.

Gipson has 22 tackles in four games, putting him well on pace to best his total of 33 in 10 games a year ago as a rookie. 


Browns defenders stat in Week 2 loss

(9/16/2013) Browns cornerback Buster Skrine led the defense with a team-high nine tackles (seven solo) Week 2 at Baltimore. He was part of a defensive effort that shut out Baltimore in the first half, but the Ravens still emerged with a 14-6 win.

Linebacker D'Qwell Jackson had eight tackles (four solo), as did free safety Tashaun Gipson (four solo) and defensive lineman Jabaal Sheard (three solo). Sheard had 1/2 sack, as did defensive lineman Desmond Bryant, who finished with five tackles (one solo).

Browns safety T.J. Ward finished with four tackles (two solo) and cornerback Joe Haden, who spent most of the afternoon shadowing Ravens receiver Torrey Smity, had three solo tackles and one pass defense.


Browns receive several contributions to impressive defensive effort

(9/8/2013) The Browns dominated against the run Sunday and several defensive players contributed. Included was linebacker Craig Robertson, who recorded five tackles, including one for a loss.

The secondary was led by new free safety Tashaun Gipson, who managed to secure the only turnover with an interception.

A more challenging offense for the Browns, however, awaits them in Baltimore next Sunday.


FS Gipson set as Browns' starter

(8/21/2013) Tashaun Gipson has earned the Browns' starting free safety position, Rob Chudzinski confirmed to Associated Press. The announcement seemed only a matter of time after Gipson outperformed several other candidates in preseason play.

Competition remains at cornerback, where Buster Skrine and Chris Owens are battling to start alongside Joe Haden.
