Jaguars pass catchers contribute in loss

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(9/28/2014) The Jaguars backup pass catchers were able to get in some work Week 4.

Jacksonville spread the ball around quite a bit, allowing 10 different receivers to come up with a reception. Allen Robinson made some noise, hauling in five passes for 38 yards. He was targeted seven times, which was second on the club.

Mike Brown had one catch for 12 yards. Fullback Will Ta'ufo'ou also hauled in one pass, gaining 4 yards. Nic Jacobs had the least yardage of all receivers on the day, but had the only touchdown. In the second quarter, Jacobs came down with a 2 yard touchdown pass from Blake Bortles.

They'll take on the Steelers Week 5.

Jaguars have lost seven receivers so far

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(8/6/2014) For a few hours Wednesday, the Jaguars had two healthy receivers who have played in the NFL. That's how many receivers Jacksonville has lost. ESPN.com updated the team's woes at wideout:

Mike Brown went down with hamstring tightness Wednesday after a strong camp. It's unclear how long he'll be out.

Starter Cecil Shorts left the first practice July 25 with hamstring tightness too and has not practiced since. Rookie Allen Robinson strained his hamstring July 31 and will be out at least one more week. Tandon Doss is out indefinitely with a badly sprained ankle.

Rookie Damian Copeland went on IR on Monday with a wrist injury. Rookie Nathan Slaughter sprained his foot and is out several weeks. Ace Sanders, who caught 51 passes last year, took a leave of absence for "personal issues" and will face a four-game substance abuse suspension upon his return.

"Man, I've never seen anything like it," said receiver Kerry Taylor, who started four games last year. "I don't even know what to call it."

Jaguars counting on Marqise Lee, Allen Robinson

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/17/2014) The Jaguars have questions at receiver this season, reports ESPN.

Heading into the season, the only certainties based on experience are Cecil Shorts and Ace Sanders. After that, the rest of the group is unknown.

The report says it would seem second-round picks Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson would naturally be the next two, but both missed most organized team activities and all of minicamp with injuries. They're supposed to be fully cleared for camp, but they missed valuable time.

Next would be Kerry Taylor and Mike Brown, as well as undrafted rookie Allen Hurns. Justin Blackmon is suspended indefinitely.

Jaguars receiving corps starts to take shape

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/24/2014) The Jaguars are expected to go with Cecil Shorts, Allen Robinson, Marqise Lee, Mike Brown, Allen Hurns and Ace Sanders as their receivers this season, reports the Florida Times-Union.

The report says Sanders has an edge on Tandon Doss, and Hurns, an undrafted free agent, was one of the biggest surprises of the offseason and makes the team if he can stay on the field. Brown also earns a spot because his reliability gives him the advantage.

Mike Brown on roster bubble

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(6/15/2014) Jaguars receiver Mike Brown is no lock to make the roster, reports the Florida Times-Union. The top three wideouts are Cecil Shorts and second-round picks Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson. Brown will vie with Ace Sanders, Kerry Taylor and at least two rookies for the final three spots.

Last year, Brown missed four games with a broken bone in his back and finished with 32 catches for 446 yards and two touchdowns.

Mike Brown steps up his production

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10:39 pm ET) Searching for viable receiving options with Cecil Shorts on IR with a groin injury, the Jaguars may have found one in wide receiver Mike Brown Week 16 against the Titans. Brown led the team with five catches for 71 yards and even scored a touchdown on a 7-yard throw from quarterback Chad Henne in the second quarter.

Running mostly short routes, Brown's six targets were second only to Kerry Taylor's seven, though they were one less than he had each of the last two weeks, when he averaged 3.0 catches for 18.0 yards.

He'll look to build on the performance Week 17 at Indianapolis.

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12/15/2013) The Jaguars backup pass catchers did little Week 15 against the Bills.

Wide receiver Kerry Taylor had the best game of the bunch, catching four passes for 42 yards. He was targeted five times. Mike Brown caught three passes for 20 yards. Jeremy Ebert caught one pass for 8 yards. They'll take on the Titans Week 16.

Mike Brown does little in win

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/6/2013) Jaguars wide receiver Mike Brown continues to be a non-factor in the offense, as he failed to top 20 yards receiving for the second straight game in Week 14 against the Texans Thursday. Brown hauled in three of seven passes thrown his way for 16 yards, with a long reception of just 8 yards in the 27-20 win.

Brown has not reached 50 yards in any of the team's five games since going off for 120 yards in Week 7. He heads into Week 15 against the Bills with 21 catches for 312 yards on the season.
