Four Panthers merely pitch in to Sunday triumph

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/21/2014) Several Panthers made small contributions to a key win Sunday against Cleveland. Among them was running back Mike Tolbert, who rushed for 19 yards on seven carries. Fozzy Whittaker added five yards on his lone carry.

The others did their minor damage through the air. Philly Brown caught two passes for 22 yards while fellow wide receiver Brenton Bersin snagged one for 14 yards.

(12/7/2014) Seven Panthers caught three passes or less, though that was certainly enough for them to chip in to a blowout defeat of host New Orleans on Sunday.

The most significant made by one of the minor characters was that of running back Fozzy Whittaker, who helped his team pile on with a 26-yard touchdown catch and run late in the third quarter.

Also pitching in from the air were Philly Brown (3-42), Mike Tolbert (2-34), Ed Dickson (1-10), Jerricho Cotchery (1-9) and Brenton Bersin (1-9). Tolbert contributed 28 yards on five carries as well.

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(10/19/2014) Panthers wide receiver Brenton Bersin came down with his first career touchdown in a Week 7 defeat to the Packers on Sunday.

With the game well out of hand, Bersin saw most of his work on the final drive of the afternoon. He came down with a 1-yard touchdown reception with 1:24 remaining in the game. He was thrown to five times and finished with 21 yards and a score in a 38-17 defeat.

The Panthers will host the Seahawks in Week 8.

Paper predicts roles for Panthers receivers

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/21/2014) Jerricho Cotchery and rookie Kelvin Benjamin will start while Jason Avant works as the third receiver. That's the prediction of how the Panthers will re-stock their receiving corps according to the Charlotte Observer

The paper thinks Tiquan Underwood might have cost himself an opportunity after dropping a lot of passes through the OTAs. Rarely-used receivers Marvin McNutt and Tavarres King don't look like full-time players just yet. The paper suggested Brenton Bersin as a candidate to step into a small role -- the 6-foot-3, 210-pound receiver is a favorite of Cam Newton's and he knows every receiving spot, which the coaches like.

Carolina's offense figures to use more two-tight end sets with Greg Olsen and Ed Dickson the primary weapons.

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

The squad consists of wideout Brenton Bersin, quarterback Matt Blanchard, linebacker Ben Jacobs, guard Michael Jasper, tight end D.C. Jefferson, offensive tackle Andrew McDonald, cornerback DeAndre Presley and defensive end Craig Roh.
