Browns waive K Garrett Hartley, three others

(5/11/2015) The Browns announced Monday that they have waived kicker Garrett Hartley, along with wide receiver Phil Bates, defensive lineman Christian Tupou and defensive back Varmah Sonie, per the Akron Beacon Journal

Hartley was signed by the Browns prior to Week 15 last season and was 3-for-3 in his only field goal attempts. Prior to that, he played for six seasons with the Saints.

(12/28/2014) Quarterback Brian Hoyer (shoulder) and cornerback Justin Gilbert, who is being disciplined, headline the inactives posted by the Browns for their Sunday game in Baltimore. Also hurt and out are defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin (ankle) and tackle Ryan Seymour (hamstring).

A trio of healthy scratches include long snapper Charley Hughlett, offensive lineman Andrew McDonald and wideout Phil Bates.

(12/27/2014) The Browns have elevated wide receiver Phil Bates from practice squad to the 53-man active roster following the suspension of wide receiver Josh Gordon on Saturday, per the team's official website. Bates has appeared in only one game this season with Seattle, before joining the Browns. The Browns downgraded Bates out for Sunday's season finale at Baltimore, per the Akron Beacon Journal.

(9/4/2014) The Seahawks have designated RB Christine Michael, CB Tharold Simon, TE Cooper Helfet, LB Kevin Pierre-Louis, WR Kevin Norwood, WR Phil Bates, and DE Greg Scruggs as inactive Week 1 against the Packers.

Michael, Helfet, Pierre-Louis and Simon were all listed as out entering the game, so the fact that they are inactive shouldn't come as a surprise. Norwood is a surprise, since he was considered probable for Week 1.
