Damaris Johnson, Russell Shepard battling hamstring woes

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer

Eagles excuse Riley Cooper from all team activities

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(8/2/2013) The Eagles announced Friday that receiver Riley Cooper has been excused from all team activities as he seeks counseling for his recent actions. Cooper was videotaped using a deratory racial slur. The Eagles fined him for his actions; he has since apologized.

"The last few days have been incredibly difficult for me. My actions were inexcusable," Cooper said in a statement. " ... Right now, I think it’s important for me to take some time to reflect on this situation. The organization and my teammates have been extremely supportive, but I also realize that there are people who will have a tough time forgiving me for what I’ve done. The best thing for me, and for the team, is to step away for a period of time."

If Cooper is out for an extended period of time, speedy receiver Damaris Johnson might get elevated to the Eagles' starting lineup. Veteran Jason Avant might also be moved up.

For Riley Cooper, starting job is "his job to lose"

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/30/2013) With Jeremy Maclin lost for the year with a torn ACL, Comcast Sportsnet believes that Riley Cooper is the guy who will be given the first crack to replace him on the Eagles. As writer Reuben Frank wrote, "[i]t's his job to lose." Damaris Johnson, Arrelious Benn and Jason Avant also figure to get involved.

Cooper had 13 catches for 138 yards and two touchdowns in five starts last season.

Potential fallout from Jeremy Maclin injury

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/27/2013) The Jeremy Maclin leg injury sounds pretty serious. It's terrible because the Eagles receiving corps isn't exactly rich with established talent and Maclin himself was poised to work hard in a contract year. Drafting him is a mistake until we know more about his situation.

In the event his injury is season-ending, expect tall receiver Riley Cooper and speedster Damaris Johnson to see a lot of work in his place (Arrelious Benn would also be a factor except he, too, is battling an injury). These receivers shouldn't be drafted outside of deeper leagues but could be useful off waivers once byes kick in.

Another move the Eagles could do is lean on tight end-heavy formations. For now Philadelphia has three intriguing tight ends in Brent Celek, James Casey and rookie Zach Ertz. All have had time with the first-team offense in the early days of camp. It wouldn't be a shock to see two of the three, if not all three, on the field at the same time. The Eagles could then look for mismatches in the quick-hitting passing game.

Of the three tight ends, Casey is the one with the most upside, especially after a report last week suggested Casey was one of two receiving tight ends while Celek was more of a blocker.

Johnson makes three catches

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(12/23/2012) Eagles wide receiver Damaris Johnson made three catches during the Week 16 loss to the Redskins Sunday. Johnson caught three passes from quarterback Nick Foles for 25 yards. He was only targeted the three times in the game.
