Jets PK Nick Folk blows one, makes two in Sunday win

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/9/2014) Jets placekicker Nick Folk had a rare miss from 45 yards out Sunday against Pittsburgh, but it was all good other than that. He was true on attempts from 23 and 30 yards and hit on two extra point tries as his team raised its record to 2-8.

Jets DST can't make up for offensive miscues

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/27/2014) The Jets offense turned the ball over six times and the defense simply couldn't make up for it in a 43-23 loss to the Bills.

The Jets actually held the Bills to 280 yards of total offense, thought that might have just been the result of a plethora of short fields to work with. The Bills did not turn the ball over once in the blowout, and the Jets managed just four sacks on the positive side of the ledger.

The Jets have not turned in a double-digit Fantasy point game since Week 3, and are unlikely to do so in Week 9 with the Chiefs on the way.

Jets PK Nick Folk fine in limited opportunities Sunday

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/12/2014) Jets placekicker Nick Folk didn't receive much a chance to show off his leg Sunday against Denver. He booted a 30-yard field goal late in the third quarter and added two extra points in the defeat.

Jets do little in loss to Lions

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/28/2014) The Jets DST unit managed to slow down a strong Lions' offense Sunday, but failed to do enough in a 24-17 loss in Week 4.

The Lions managed just 360 yards of total offense in the game, though that might just be because they sprinted out to a 17-3 first-half lead. The Jets failed to force a single turnover, though they did sack Matt Stafford four times in the loss.

The Jets have held just one opponent below 24 points this season, and that was the lowly Raiders in Week 1. Things won't get much better for them in Week 5, with the Chargers on the way.

Jets spoil Dolphins' season in finale

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/29/2013) The Jets defense stepped up in a big way in Week 17, keeping the Dolphins out of the playoffs with a 20-7 win.

Miami's offense managed to score just once, on a 5-yard touchdown in the second quarter. They did little else otherwise, ultimately finished with just 296 yards of total offense. The Jets DST unit wasn't able to take advantage of Miami's poor pass protection in the way of sacks, though they did harass Ryan Tannehill into three interceptions.

The Jets defense was probably better than the numbers indicate this season, but the doesn't matter much for Fantasy purposes. This young unit is likely to improve next season, but will probably be considered a low-end Fantasy option on Draft Day.

Jets DST puts up some Fantasy points in Week 16

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/22/2013) The Jets DST didn't score for their Fantasy owners Sunday, but they did snag a pair of interceptions, hold the Browns to just 13 points, and keep them under 300 yards. They also registered three sacks.

Nick Folk bats .500 in defeat of Cleveland

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/22/2013) Jets placekicker Nick Folk missed only his second field goal in 32 attempts this season Sunday against the Browns, misfiring on a 49-yarder. But he did nail one from 21 yards in the third quarter to tie the game at 10-10 hit all three of his extra point tries to help his team win.

Jets DST a risky play at best, even against Cleveland

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/19/2013) Several factors should make Fantasy owners wary of playing the Jets DST against visiting Cleveland this week.

The first is that the Browns lead the NFL in pass attempts and rank ninth in both passing yards (3,658) and touchdowns (26). The second is that the Jets are 29th in interceptions (8) and 26th in yards allowed through the air (3,575). The third is that the Jets once-vaunted run defense has yielded 406 yards on the ground in the last three weeks combined. Three of the four 100-yard rushing games by opponents this year have been achieved during that stretch.

Not that the Browns are much of a threat to run, but the recent incapabality to stop teams in that department had worsened a defense that ranks 23rd in the league in points allowed (367). The Jets have lost four of their last five games for a reason and it's not all because of a terrible offense.

The three CBSSports.com senior Fantasy writers all rank the Jets DST among the top 13 plays this week, but the belief here is that the Browns will rack up enough points and yards to stunt the point total of a DST that ranks 31st in the NFL in takeaways. The Jets are not a strong option in Week 16.

Jets can't keep Cam Newton, DeAngelo Williams in check

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/15/2013) The Jets had no answer for Cam Newton and Carolina's rushing attack during Sunday's loss to the Panthers in Week 15.

DeAngelo Williams gashed New York's defense for 168 yards from scrimmage while Newton passed for 273 yards and touchdown. New York recorded two sacks and no turnovers while surrendering 392 yards of total offense in a 30-20 defeat.

New York will try to get back on track at home in Week 16 against the Browns.

Jets could have hands full in Week 15

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/14/2013) The Jets will have their hands full in a difficult road matchup against the Panthers in Week 15.

The Jets allowed 383 yards of total offense and 27 points to Oakland in Week 14. They'll face a Carolina offense that has averaged 129.2 yards per game on the ground, which is the ninth most in the league this season. New York has fared well against the run this season but has allowed over 100 yards rushing in back-to-back weeks.

New York is at the back of the back against the pass, allowing 254.9 yards per game this season. That will not bode well against Cam Newton, who is seeking a bounce-back performance at home this week. Continue to ignore the Jets DST in the majority of Fantasy formats for Week 15.

Jets hold on for win Week 14 despite second-half struggles

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/8/2013) The Jets gave up close to 30 points and 400 yards Week 14, but still emerged with a 37-27 win against the Raiders. Oakland finished with 383 yards, including 150 rushing, despite being down Rashad Jennings and Darren McFadden due to injuries.

The Jets defense played well in the first half, holding Oakland to 138 yards and one field goal. The Raiders offense came alive in the second half, especially quarterback Matt McGloin and running back Marcel Reece. McGloin threw two second-half touchdowns and Reece had a 63-yard touchdown run on the second play of the second half.

New York had one interception and three sacks, and Fantasy owners got a nice bonus from the Jets DST thanks to a special teams score after Antonio Allen fell on the football in the end zone after blocking a punt in the second quarter. The Jets are back in action Week 15 at Carolina.

Jets DST a fringe starting option Week 14

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/4/2013) The Jets DST got off to a good start this season, averaging 14 Fantasy points over the first three weeks. Sadly, it's been a struggle the rest of the way, averaging 7.1 Fantasy points in the last nine games.

The Jets head into Week 14 riding a three-game losing streak and now face a team in the Raiders trying to end a two-game losing streak. Luckily for New York, the Raiders don't have a high-powered offense. Oakland ranks 22nd in total offense (331.3 yards per game) and 26th in scoring offense (19.8 points per game).

DSTs have had good success against Oakland, averaging 12.5 Fantasy points per game, which is the sixth-highest average. Though, no DST has scored more than eight points since Matt McGloin took over as the starting quarterback three weeks ago.

The Jets are a mess right now, but there's a chance Sunday's game against the Raiders could be a low-scoring affair. The Jets could pass as a low-end No. 1 Fantasy DST Week 14.

Josh Cribbs suffers 'pretty bad' shoulder injury

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/2/2013) Jets coach Rex Ryan said Monday wide receiver/kick returner Josh Cribbs suffered a "pretty bad" shoulder injury Week 13 against the Dolphins.

Jets fall flat in loss to AFC East foe

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/1/2013) The Jets defense was unable to take advantage of what should have been a solid matchup in Week 13, in a 23-3 loss to the Dolphins.

The Dolphins  offense managed to score just two touchdowns in the game, stalling out in the red zone numerous times. If not for that fact, Miami might have blown out the Jets by an even wider margin, as New York's defense gave up a season-worst 453 yards of total offense to the Dolphins.

The Jets forced just one interception in the game, on a tipped pass by quarterback Ryan Tannehill. That was pretty much the lone positive of the day, as the Jets' pass rush managed just one sack against a porous Dolphins offensive line.

The Jets DST unit will try to get back on track in Week 14, with a matchup against the Raiders Sunday.

Jets prepared for subpar Dolphins offense

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11/30/2013) The Dolphins offense has struggled to get going this season, which should be a good sign for a solid Jets DST unit in Week 13.

Opposing DST units have topped double digits in Fantasy points in all but three games against Miami this season, and are averaging 12.0. The Dolphins take care of the ball pretty well (1.7 turnovers per game, just 17th in the league), but rank just 29th in yards from scrimmage.

The Jets DST unit has been up and down recently, alternating double-digit Fantasy scoring efforts with total duds over the last six games. They should have a second solid game in a row Sunday, and can be considered a worthy starting option against Miami's punchless offense.

Jets yield 37 points in Week 11 loss

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/17/2013) The Jets defense didn't give up a ton of yards during a 37-14 loss Week 11 at Buffalo. However, Buffalo was able to rack up a lot of points because of four turnovers by New York quarterback Geno Smith, who threw three interceptions.

The game was scoreless after one quarter before the Bills racked up 20 points in the second quarter. The Bills added two third-quarter touchdowns, including a 32-yard interception return for a score by Da'Norris Searcy.

The Bills finished with 313 yards, which included 68 rushing yards. Quarterback EJ Manuel threw two touchdowns -- both 34 yards or longer.

The Jets finished with no turnovers and one sack. New York is back in action Week 12 at Baltimore.

Jets defense looking to stop Bills for second time in 2013

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/14/2013) The Jets and Bills will meet for a second time this season Week 11, after the Jets won the first matchup between AFC East rivals in Week 3, 27-20. The Bills totaled 328 yards (120 rushing) in the loss.

Buffalo enters Sunday's matchup ranked 16th in total offense (332.9 yards per game) and 24th in total offense (19.9 points per game). Though, the Bills haven't scored more than 17 points in their last three games.

The Jets enter Sunday ranked eighth in total defense (325.2 ypg) and 22nd in scoring defense (25.7 ppg). The Jets have held an opponent to less than 20 points just three times this season.

Working in the Jets favor is that the Bills have some injury issues on offense. Wide receiver Robert Woods isn't expected to play because of an ankle injury and top wide receiver Steve Johnson might sit out with a groin injury.

DSTs average 12.9 Fantasy points per week against Buffalo, which is the seventh-highest average. Only three times in 10 weeks has a DST scored less than 10 points against Buffalo and once in the last eight weeks. The Jets DST had 12 points in Week 3. This is a good week to start the Jets DST.

Leave Jets DST out of Fantasy lineup for Week 9

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/31/2013) The Jets defense is arguably coming off its worst performance of the season during a 49-9 blowout loss to the Bengals. Well, it doesn't get any easier in Week 9, as they will face another top offense in the Saints.

New Orleans ranks sixth in total offense (396 yards per game) and fifth in scoring offense (28 points per game). The Saints haven't scored less than 26 points in their last five games.

Even when the Jets win, they give up a lot of points. For instance, they won 30-28 in Week 5 at Atlanta and 30-27 in Week 7 vs. New England.

Fantasy DSTs have averaged 5.4 Fantasy points per week against the Saints, which is the fourth-lowest average. Only one DST in seven games has scored more than 10 points against the Saints. The Jets DST is not a recommended Fantasy option Week 9.

Jets DST nearly shut out against Bengals

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/27/2013) If it wasn't for defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson, fantasy owners would have gotten zilch from the Jets DST in Week 8.

Wilkerson contributed the lone turnover with an interception and only sack in the 49-9 defeat in Cincinnati. The Jets yielded 402 yards of total offense in a terrible performance.

Jets have nice day against Pats

by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/20/2013) The Jets' Week 7 performance may ultimately be declared better in real football than in Fantasy, but they still managed to rack up some nice points for their owners.

Antonio Allen returned an interception for a touchdown, and four defenders recorded sacks of Tom Brady in a 30-27 overtime victory.

The Jets prevented Tom Brady from throwing a touchdown -- the second time in 55 games that Brady failed to pass for a score. And the unit looked solid and borderline-suffocating as a whole, meaning good things could be on the horizon for the DST.

The Jets play the Bengals in Week 8.

Nick Folk has three field goals

by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/20/2013) Jets kicker Nick Folk successfully converted all three of his field goal attempts in Sunday's 30-27 victory over the Patriots.

Folk converted a 37-yarder in the second quarter, a 37-yarder in the third, and a game-winning 42-yarder in overtime. Folk had missed his initial attempt in overtime, but a flag was thrown against the Patriots for unsportsmanlike conduct. The offense marched up the field about 10 yards, and Foles hit the game-winner.

The Jets face the Bengals in Week 8.

Jets can be left on the bench in Week 7

by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/17/2013) The Jets represent an interesting dichotomy. On one hand, they've allowed the 12th-fewest passing yards and second-fewest rushing yards per game this season. But they're 24th among DSTs in Fantasy points.

Why the low Fantasy worth? They've only managed one interception (in Week 1), haven't scored a defensive touchdown, have two fumbles recovered, and have allowed 20 or more points three times. Their Week 7 opponent, the Patriots, don't turn the ball over a lot, and can run up the score without notice.

The Jets may eventually start putting up the counting stats necessary to make their Fantasy unit match their real-life success but, until they do, they're best left out of starting lineups.

Jets DST continues to stuff the run

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(10/8/2013) The Jets DST entered Week 5 giving up a league-low 3.0 yards per carry. The unit lived up to its billing by holding the Falcons to 64 rushing yards on 22 attempts, or 2.9 yards per carry.

On the final play of the first half, the Jets completed a goal-line stand, stuffing Jacquizz Rodgers for no gain from the 1. Defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson led the charge on that play, and he also had a sack and two tackles for loss. Defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson recorded the Jets' other sack, giving him four this season, and stripped Matt Ryan for the game's only turnover. Antonio Allen blocked a first-quarter punt.

Although New York gave up 28 points, the Jets DST made several big plays and could cause havoc again in Week 6 against the Steelers.

Jets DST suffering from Geno Smith's mistakes

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(10/1/2013) The Jets DST has been victimized by the Jets' offense. It happened again last week when the Titans scored 28 points off Geno Smith's four turnovers. That helps explain why the Jets DST ranks 20th in Fantasy points.

In addition to trying to overcome a rookie quarterback, the Jets DST goes on the road to face a potent Atlanta offense featuring Matt Ryan, Julio Jones and Tony Gonzalez. Atlanta gives up 6.25 points per game to opposing DSTs, tied for fifth-fewest.

Keep the Jets benched in Week 5. You can find several superior options on the waiver wire.

Jets can't find an answer against Titans

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(9/29/2013) The Jets had no answer for Jake Locker and the Titans in Week 4 at Tennesse.

Locker torched the Jets for three touchdowns and 149 yards passing before going down with an injury. New York then allowed a 77-yard touchdown pass to backup Ryan Fitzpatrick. New York had two sacks and surrendered 322 yards of total offense and no turnovers in a 38-13 defeat.

The Jets will travel to Atlanta for a Week 5 showdown against the Falcons on Monday night.
