by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Lewis worked with the second-team offense this time around and completed 6 of 11 pass attempts for 63 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. Tuel entered the game in the third quarter and completed 4 of 5 pass attempts for 24 yards, with a touchdown and an interception.

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/3/2014) Bills quarterback Jeff Tuel jumped over Thad Lewis in the depth chart for the second-team quarterback. He relieved starter EJ Manuel during Sunday's preseason opener against the Giants.

Tuel hooked up with Robert Woods for a two-yard strike in the second quarter. He was also intercepted by Cooper Taylor in the final minute of the first half. He completed 12 of 17 passes for 74 yards, with one touchdown and one interception.

Lewis took over for Tuel after halftime and completed 9 of 14 passes for 81 yards, with no touchdowns and one interceptions.

Jeff Tuel pushing Thad Lewis for No. 2 QB job

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/22/2014) Quarterback Thad Lewis is not guaranteed to be EJ Manuel's backup. Lewis and Jeff Tuel split time with the second team Tuesday.

"We have a battle for the second-team quarterback," coach Doug Marrone said. "We're trying to find out who it is. Jeff did a nice job in OTAs and he's earned himself some more reps."

Bills QB situation unsettled heading into Week 10

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/4/2013) With Bills rookie quarterback EJ Manuel close to returning from a knee injury, quarterback Jeff Tuel sounded uncertain Monday if he would make another start Week 10 at Pittsburgh. Tuel started Sunday's 23-13 loss vs. Kansas City, completing 18 of 39 passes for 229 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

"I'm not sure," Tuel said of his starting status for Week 10, per ESPN.

Wide receiver Steve Johnson seems to think Manuel will ready to return next week. Tuel started Sunday in place of Thad Lewis, who was out with a rib injury.

"(Manuel) said he'll be ready on Sunday. After that there's no excuses," Johnson said.

Jeff Tuel struggles in loss

by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer
(11/3/2013) Bills quarterback Jeff Tuel completed 18-of-39 passes for 229 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 23-13 loss to the Chiefs. Tuel was intercepted twice, with one of the picks going back 100 yards for a touchdown. He rushed three times for 17 yards.

Tuel had a solid first quarter, finishing with 112 yards and a touchdown, but he began overthrowing his receivers (notably Scott Chandler, several times) and eventually ran out of steam.

EJ Manuel may be back for the team's Week 10 game against the Steelers, so there is no guarantee that Tuel will see another start this season.

Jeff Tuel draws first career start

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/3/2013) Bills quarterback Jeff Tuel drew his first career start Week 9 vs. Kansas City after Thad Lewis was declared inactive due to a rib injury. Matt Flynn will be the backup quarterback with EJ Manuel also sidelined.

Report: Jeff Tuel named Week 9 starter

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(11/2/2013) With Thad Lewis (ribs) listed as doubtful on the injury report, The Bills will name Jeff Tuel the starting quarterback for Week 9 at home against the Chiefs, CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason la Canfora reports Saturday. Matt Flynn will be listed as the No. 2 quarterback.

Tuel's only appearance of the season came in Week 5 when he relieved an injured EJ Manuel in the third quarter against the Browns. He completed 8 of 20 passes for 80 yards with an interception. It'll be his first career start under center.

Bills down to two possible, one unlikely starter at QB for Sunday

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/1/2013) It appears that the battle for the Bills starting quarterback job Sunday against Kansas City is down to two. Doug Marrone officially ruled out E.J. Manuel (knee) and proclaimed Thad Lewis (ribs) doubtful on Friday.

That leaves Jeff Tuel and Matt Flynn as the most likely starters. They have shared first-team reps in practice throughout the week.

Bills to make quarterback decision Friday

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11/1/2013) The Bills will decide on a starting quarterback for Week 9 Friday.

The team has to decide between Thad Lewis, Jeff Tuel and Matt Flynn against the Chiefs. Lewis is dealing with back and rib injuries, and will be evaluated Friday. If he's able to go, he'll start. Otherwise, the team will have to turn to either Tuel or Flynn. Head coach Doug Marrone added that he'll go with the player who gives the team the best chance to win.

'It could be anyone' starting at QB for Buffalo Week 9

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/30/2013) Do you want to know who will start at quarterback for the Bills Week 9 vs. Kansas City? Well, apparently the Bills want to know that answer as well.

Bills quarterback Jeff Tuel delivered a surprising message when talking to reporters Wednesday after splitting the first-team reps at practice with Matt Flynn since Thad Lewis was sidelined by a rib injury.

"Coach Marrone walked in to the room and said, 'It could be anyone," Tuel said about the quarterback situation for Week 9.

Lewis has been the starter the last three games with EJ Manuel sidelined by a knee injury. Manuel practiced on a limited basis with the second-team offense Wednesday and appears inching closer to a return as well.

Thad Lewis a no-go for Wednesday practice

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/30/2013) Bruised ribs prevented Bills quarterback Thad Lewis from practicing on Wednesday. Jeff Tuel was taking the first-team reps, per WGR.

Lewis played throughout Sunday against New Orleans with the ailment, but struggled with three fumbles and an interception.

Starter E.J. Manuel remains sidelined with a knee injury, but has ramped up his recovery and could be close to returning.

Jeff Tuel passed over for Bills' starting QB job

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/7/2013) Bills coach Doug Marrone made the shocking announcement Monday during his weekly radio interview with WGR 550 that Thad Lewis has been promoted from the practice squad to start Week 6 vs. Cincinnati. The announcement means quarterback Jeff Tuel, who replaced the injured EJ Manuel (knee) Week 5 at Cleveland, will remain in a backup role.

"I’m a big believer if someone is on your roster and you keep him around and you see us do it with the practice squad bringing guys up, you’ve got to put them out there to see where they are," Marrone said. "The one thing you want to do is know what you have. I’m very comfortable with Jeff developing and with Thad I want to see what we have."

Jeff Tuel flops in first action

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/3/2013) Bills backup quarterback Jeff Tuel was forced into action in Week 5 against the Browns Thursday, and the rookie's first NFL action did not go well in a 37-24 loss.

Tuel entered the game after EJ Manuel suffered a knee injury in the third quarter, with the ball on the 1 yard line. Fred Jackson would score on the next play, representing the only time the Bills would score with Huel under center.

Huel led the team on six drives, four of which ended in punts. The others ended on turnovers, one on downs and the other on an interception returned for a touchdown.

Huel finished the game with 80 yards on 8 of 20 passing. The Bills have a few extra days off before their next game thanks to the Thursday start to Week 5, which could end up giving Manuel enough time to come back. If not Huel could start his first game in Week 6 against the Bengals.

Marrone: E.J. Manuel healthy and ready to play Sunday

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(9/4/2013) Those who feared that Bills third-string quarterback Jeff Tuel would be forced to start the opener against New England or that fellow rookie E.J. Manuel would have to play hurt have nothing to worry about, Doug Marrone told ESPN.

"He's 110 percent healthy," Marrone said after watching Manuel practice the last three days. "He looks good out there. So that's what we're going to go with."

Manuel made a rapid recovery from minor knee surgery in August and became the winner of the quarterback competition by default when Kevin Kolb was placed on season-ending IR with a concussion that could end his career.

Jeff Tuel won't be starting Week 1

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9/4/2013) EJ Manuel's speedy recovery from mid-August knee surgery has bumped Bills rookie Jeff Tuel from starting Week 1 vs. New England. The Bills made the announcement Wednesday morning Manuel will start Sunday.

Bills WRs unaffected by QB rotation

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9/3/2013) Bills wide receiver T.J. Graham said the receivers were unaffected by quarterbacks EJ Manuel and Jeff Tuel splitting reps during practice Monday. Bills coach Doug Marrone hasn't confirmed who will start at quarterback Week 1 against the Patriots.

"As long as we run our right depth and run the right route and as long as the quarterback puts the ball where it’s supposed to be it doesn’t matter who is throwing it," Graham said, per NFL.com. "As long as Jeff is ready if EJ is not ready, or if EJ is ready, whoever is throwing the ball we all have to make sure that we’re ready and be prepared to adjust to it whenever the time comes."

EJ Manuel sharing reps with Jeff Tuel

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(9/2/2013) Bills quarterback EJ Manuel practiced for a second straight day Monday, splitting first-team reps with undrafted rookie Jeff Tuel. Manuel had minor knee surgery Aug. 18 but is making a case to start Sunday's opener against New England.

Coach Doug Marrone says he'll decide Wednesday whether Manuel, the No. 16 overall pick, can play.

Bills to decide Wednesday whether EJ Manuel starts

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(9/1/2013) After Bills quarterback EJ Manuel returned to a limited practice Sunday, coach Doug Marrone said the first-round pick is ahead of schedule but that the team will decide Wednesday who starts the opener. "He looked good and we were excited about it," Marrone said. "We'll see how it goes later this week."

Manuel participated in individual drills Sunday and is expected to join team drills Monday. Undrafted rookie Jeff Tuel would face the Patriots if Manuel, coming back from knee surgery, isn't ready.

"I definitely want to be back and help the team," Manuel said.

EJ Manuel returns to practice

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(9/1/2013) Bills quarterback EJ Manuel returned to practice Sunday, increasing the likelihood he'll start the season opener over undrafted rookie Jeff Tuel. Manuel underwent minor knee surgery on Aug. 18.

All along, coach Doug Marrone said the team was hopeful its first-round pick would make it back but was preparing Tuel for the start. Manuel will have to prove he's healthy in practice this week to start next Sunday against the Patriots.
