Derek Carr moves ahead of Matt McGloin

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/20/2014) Raiders rookie quarterback Derek Carr has moved into the No. 2 role behind Matt Schaub and ahead of Matt McGloin, reports ESPN.

"We're trying to expedite his progression, and I've liked a lot of things I've seen out of Derek," coach Dennis Allen said. "He's still got a long way to go and I like the direction he's headed."

Raiders GM dissatisfied with quarterbacks on current roster

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1/17/2014) Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie indicated that his team's franchise quarterback is not currently on the roster. He all but dismissed Terrelle Pryor and Matt McGloin, who both failed to assume control of the position in 2013.

"We've got two young players who played this year (and) from an experience standpoint there wasn't any, so neither of them stepped up and said, 'I'm the frachise quarterback,'" he told ESPN. "So absolutely, we're going to always continue to upgrade and find that guy. Now how we find them, we'll figure that out in the next few months."

The Raiders own the No. 5 pick in the 2014 draft, but top three college quarterbacks Teddy Bridgewater, Johnny Manziel and Blake Bortles could be off the board by the time they select. That leads to speculation that the Raiders are open to trading up to get their quarterback.

Dennis Allen not sold on his quarterbacks

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/30/2013) Dennis Allen, who expects to return as Raiders' coach in 2014, said he's not sure the team's quarterback of the future is on the roster. "Yeah, well, I think that's a position that we've got to make sure that we address," Allen said, per ESPN.com.

"I'm not sure that we have the quarterback of the future in the building right now, but again I think we'll go through the offseason evaluation process, I think we'll go back through all the tapes, we'll comb through everything. I do think we have a better idea of what we have at the quarterback position, but again I think, listen, that's the most important position on the football field."

Terrelle Pryor started 10 games for Oakland, Matt McGloin six.

Terrelle Pryor in, Matt McGloin out for Week 17

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/23/2013) Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor has returned to the starting job with which he began the year. Dennis Allen announced that he will replace recent starter Matt McGloin with Pryor for the season finale against Denver.

Pryor threw eight interceptions and just one touchdown in four starts from Weeks 6-10, but McGloin also struggled after a strong start. He threw for four scores and eight picks in his last five games, all losses.

Matt McGloin throws no touchdowns

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/22/2013) After tossing a pair of touchdowns in each of his previous two games, Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin did not produce any scores in the Week 16 loss at San Diego. He finished 20 of 36 for 207 yards with an interception, adding a 5-yard run.

In seven games, McGloin has accounted for eight touchdowns and nine turnovers. He's completed under 60 percent of his throws in three straight games. McGloin should have had a late touchdown pass, but fullback Marcel Reece dropped it.

McGloin plays the Broncos in Week 17.

Raiders get minor contributions in Week 15

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/15/2013) The Raiders received minor contributions from several role players during Sunday's blowout loss to the Chiefs in Week 15.

In the running game, fullback Jamize Olawale rushed for two yards on one carry. In the passing game, Taiwan Jones, who converted to cornerback before the start of the season, came down with a short pass from Matt McGloin and took it up the field for a 52-yard gain for his only catch of the day. He also lost a fumble.

Chimdi Chekwa also caught one pass for a gain of 22 yards. Jeron Mastrud and Nick Kasa both received a target but finished the game without a grab.

Matt McGloin picked off four times in loss to Chiefs

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/15/2013) Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin had some issues with his accuracy in an up-and-down performance during Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs in Week 15.

McGloin was picked off by Eric Berry twice in the first half, who returned the first interception back for an Oakland score in the opening quarter. McGloin also lost a fumble in the second quarter. McGloin bounced back in the third quarter with a 6-yard touchdown pass to Andre Holmes and a 14-yard touchdown pass to Mychal Rivera. He was then picked off twice more in the final quarter and was benched for Terrelle Pryor for the final eight minutes of the game.

McGloin completed 18 of 36 passes for 297 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions. He finished with a 57.1 passer rating in a 56-31 defeat.

Matt McGloin not a reliable option for Week 15

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/12/2013) Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin will look to stay sharp, although he may lose some snaps heading into a difficult matchup in Week 15 against the Chiefs.

McGloin threw for multiple touchdowns for the second time this season in Week 14 against the Jets. He's been named the starter but the Raiders have not ruled out using Terrelle Pryor in a few drives as part of the gameplan.

McGloin will face a Kansas City defense that has allowed 244.6 passing yards per game, which ranks 19th in the league. Opposing quarterbacks have scored 18.00 Fantasy points per game against the Chiefs this season. McGloin should not be viewed as a reliable option for Week 15.

Matt McGloin to remain starting QB for Week 15

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/9/2013) Although the Raiders suffered a third straight defeat Sunday against the Jets, coach Dennis Allen said Matt McGloin will remain the starting quarterback heading into Week 15 vs. Kansas City. McGloin is 1-3 as a starter, throwing for 200-plus yards in three straight games and totaling six touchdowns to three interceptions in his four starts.

Matt McGloin throws for two TDs in Week 14 loss

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/8/2013) Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin had his second career multi-passing touchdown game Week 14 at N.Y. Jets, but Oakland still lost to New York, 37-27. McGloin completed 18 of 31 passes for 245 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, while rushing for 20 yards on two carries.

McGloin played most of the game, but did sit out for one series in the first half so the Raiders could get Terrelle Pryor some work. On McGloin's first series back, he threw an interception deep in Oakland's own territory, which New York returned to the Raiders' 4-yard line.

Both of McGloin's touchdowns came in the second half. He had an 48-yard touchdown pass to Rod Streater in the third quarter. McGloin threaded a pass between two defenders, and Streater took care of the rest. McGloin then had a 1-yard touchdown pass to Mychal Rivera late in the fourth quarter on a 4th-and-goal play.

McGloin's best chance for a three-touchdown game came on a 22-yard pass into the end zone in the fourth quarter. However, his pass intended for Jacoby Ford was badly underthrown, resulting in an incomplete pass.

The Raiders are back in action Week 15 vs. Kansas City.

Matt McGloin might finally get second multi-TD game

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/4/2013) Thus far, Raiders rookie quarterback Matt McGloin has been a one-week wonder since he hasn't made much noise since throwing for three touchdowns Week 11 at Houston. McGloin has one touchdown and two interceptions in his last two starts -- both losses.

McGloin will look to record his second multi-touchdown game Week 14 at N.Y. Jets. The chances of him getting it done are better than you might expect since quarterbacks have fared pretty well against New York. Quarterbacks average 271.8 passing yards and 19.8 Fantasy points per week against the Jets.

More importantly, quarterbacks have recorded multiple touchdowns against the Jets in six of the last nine games. In all, quarterbacks have totaled 22 passing touchdowns to seven interceptions.

McGloin has kept the Raiders in the game in both of their recent defeats, which is why he continues to hold onto the starting job despite the lack of touchdowns. He's also starting to build rapport with his receivers, more notably Rod Streater and Andre Holmes, so maybe another strong performance is in the cards Sunday.

It seems McGloin has the chance to post pretty good numbers Week 14 given the matchup, but he's still more of a low-end Fantasy option.

Matt McGloin denied touchdown in Week 13 loss

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/28/2013) For the first time in three career starts, Raiders rookie quarterback Matt McGloin failed to throw a touchdown pass during a 31-24 loss Week 13 at Dallas. McGloin completed 18 of 30 passes for one interception.

McGloin was credited with a 16-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Andre Holmes in the second quarter. However, the play was reviewed and the officials took the touchdown away after ruling Holmes' knee was down before he stretched the football across the goal line. One play later, Rashad Jennings had a 1-yard touchdown run.

McGloin had an efficient first half, completing 11 of 15 passes for 146 yards. He had a 103.8 quarterback rating as Oakland led 21-14 at the half.

McGloin was going for his first touchdown pass in the second half when a 20-yard pass into the end zone targeted for Jacoby Ford was picked off by Dallas cornerback Brandon Carr. It was McGloin's second interception in as many games.

The Raiders are back in action Week 14 at N.Y. Jets.

Is favorable matchup enough to consider starting Matt McGloin?

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/26/2013) Raiders rookie quarterback Matt McGloin will be playing on a national stage Week 13, as Oakland travels to Dallas for a Thanksgiving showdown. McGloin fell short of improving to 2-0 as a starter Sunday, as Oakland lost 23-19 vs. Tennessee, so he now focuses on getting win No. 2 Thursday.

From a Fantasy standpoint, this is a favorable matchup for McGloin on paper. The Cowboys are yielding 24.1 Fantasy points per week to quarterbacks, which is the highest average. Quarterbacks have totaled 22 passing touchdowns in 11 games against Dallas, including six in the last two games.

Another bonus for McGloin is that the Dallas secondary is expected to be without cornerback Morris Claiborne because of a hamstring injury and linebacker Sean Lee might also be out again because of a hamstring injury.

The bad news for McGloin, however, is he could be down two top targets in wide receiver Denarius Moore (shoulder) and tight end Mychal Rivera (concussion) due to injuries.

It's definitely a favorable matchup on paper and McGloin is just two weeks removed from throwing three touchdowns. But unless you are looking for a Hail Mary play at quarterback Week 13, it's probably best to consider other Fantasy options over McGloin.

Matt McGloin to make third straight start Week 13

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/25/2013) Though Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin fell short in leading Oakland to a second straight win Sunday against the Titans, coach Dennis Allen said the rookie quarterback will start again Thursday at Dallas (Week 13).

"Yeah, I thought Matt played well," Allen said, per ESPN. "And for him to lead us back when we needed a touchdown, he got us the touchdown we needed to give us the lead. We just couldn’t hold it defensively."

Matt McGloin has up-and-down game vs. Titans

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(11/24/2013) Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin had an up-and-down performance during Sunday's loss to the Titans at home in Week 12.

McGloin was picked off by Zach brown late in the first quarter, which led to a Tennessee field goal. He then bounced back as he hooked up with Marcel Reece in the end zone for a 27-yard strike late in the fourth quarter for his only touchdown of the game. He completed all four of his pass attempts during his touchdown drive. McGloin completed 19 of 32 passes for 260 yards with one touchdown and one interception in a 23-19 defeat. He finished the game with an 82.8 quarterback rating.

He'll look to get back on track in Week 13 at Dallas on Thanksgiving.

Matt McGloin set to start on Sunday

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/20/2013) Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin will make his second straight start Sunday against Tennessee despite the fact that previous starter Terrelle Pryor returned to practice on Wednesday. McGloin was taking the first-team reps.

McGloin played well in his debut as a starter in Week 11 against Houston. He completed 18 of 32 passes for 197 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.

Raiders haven't made QB decision yet for Week 12

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/18/2013) Raiders coach Dennis Allen said Monday he hasn't made a decision yet about his starting quarterback for Week 12 vs. Tennessee. Allen said he first wants to talk to quarterback Terrelle Pryor about his status after sitting out Week 11 at Houston with a knee injury.

Allen added Matthew McGloin has "earned the right" to be in the discussion to start after he threw three touchdowns and led Oakland to a 28-23 win Sunday.

Matt McGloin throws for three touchdowns in win

by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer
(11/17/2013) Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin was 18-of-32 for 197 yards and three touchdowns against the Texans on Sunday. McGloin rushed three times (for -3 yards) and was sacked twice.

McGloin looked composed and in control throughout the game. His receivers dropped a few spot-on passes, but they held on when it mattered -- Denarius Moore and Rod Streater caught touchdowns in the first quarter, and Mychal Rivera had a 26-yard touchdown reception in the third. In total, McGloin connected with six different players and managed to finish the day with a passing total 30 yards greater than Houston's passing yards per game average (167 yards) this season.

There's no indication if Terrelle Pryor will be able to play in Week 12 against the Titans, but McGloin acquitted himself nicely in the passing game, and had a successful starting debut.

Raiders rule out Terrelle Pryor for Week 11

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11/16/2013) The Raiders officially ruled out quarterback Terrelle Pryor for Week 11 Saturday, after listing him as questionable for the game on Friday's injury report. Pryor will be replaced in the starting lineup by rookie Matthew McGloin, who took the majority of the first-team reps at practice during the week.

McGloin appeared in one game this season, completing 7 of 15 passes for 87 yards.

Matt McGloin will have tough matchup if he starts

by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer
(11/15/2013) Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin may get his first NFL start this Sunday in place of an injured Terrelle Pryor, but the 23-year-old will have a tough task ahead of him -- his opponent, the Houston Texans, have allowed the fewest passing yards per game (167) in the NFL.

The tiny sliver of hope here is that the Texans, despite the low yardage total, have given up 15 passing touchdowns this season. And while the Texans have allowed 17.8 Fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this season, they've allowed an average of 21 over the last four, driven by nine quarterback touchdowns in that span.

McGloin, a former walk-on at Penn State, holds the school record for career touchdown passes, single-season passing yards, and single-season completions. So while he has considerable skill, his Week 11 matchup is tough enough to keep him on the waiver wire in most formats.

Terrelle Pryor out, Matthew McGloin in fo Wednesday practice

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/13/2013) Raiders struggling quarterback Terrelle Pryor merely watched practice Wednesday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. He has been nursing a knee injury. Matthew McGloin, who played only in Week 8, received the first-team reps and would likely start Sunday in Houston if Pryor gets the red light.

Pryor is coming off one of his worst performances of the year. He completed a season-low 42.3 percent of his passes against the Giants. He has just one touchdown pass and eight interceptions in his last four games.

Matthew McGloin makes first NFL throws Week 9

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/3/2013) Raiders rookie quarterback Matthew McGloin threw a pass in an NFL regular-season game for the first time in his career during a 49-20 loss Week 9 vs. Philadelphia. McGloin came off the bench in the fourth quarter after starter Terrelle Pryor suffered a knee injury.

McGloin completed 7 of 15 passes for 87 yards. He had a few throws into the end zone on the two offensive drives he led in the fourth quarter, but his best chance came on a 2-yard pass to Denarius Moore, who caught the football before a defender stripped him of the score.

The Giants are back in action Week 10 at N.Y. Giants. The severity of Pryor's knee injury isn't yet known.

Raiders shuffle quarterback depth chart

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/2/2013) Raiders coach Dennis Allen announced Wednesday quarterback Terrelle Pryor will return to the starting lineup Week 5 vs. Oakland after sitting out Week 4 with a concussion. But that wasn't the only change to the quarterback depth chart.

Allen announced Matt Flynn, who started in a Week 4 loss to Washington, has been demoted to third-string quarterback. Matthew McGloin is now the team's backup quarterback.

"It is what it is. It didn’t work out," Allen said, per The San Francisco Chronicle.

Raiders announce Week 3 inactives

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(9/23/2013) The Raiders announced seven inactives for Monday night's game against the Broncos: quarterback Matthew McGloin, safety Tyvon Branch (ankle), linebacker Sio Moore (concussion), offensive tackle Menelik Watson, guard Lucas Nix (ankle), guard Antoine McClain and wideout Juron Criner.

Raiders list Week 1 inactives

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9/8/2013) The Raiders' inactives for Week 1 at Indianapolis include quarterback Matthew McGloin, defensive lineman Ryan Robinson, offensive lineman Menelik Watson (knee), offensive lineman Antoine McClain, defensive lineman Brian Sanford, wide receiver Juron Criner and tight end David Ausberry (shoulder).
