Jon Beason out 12 weeks

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/13/2014) Giants linebacker Jon Beason, who was carted off the field during practice Thursday with an injured right foot, is now headed for surgery, reports NFL.com.

The report says Beason suffered a sesamoid fracture in his right foot, per a source aware of the diagnosis. He's expected to miss 12 weeks, which puts Beason out for most of training camp and threatens his availability for Week 1.

Rookie Devon Kennard would handle middle linebacker duties if Beason is out for any regular season action.

Mathias Kiwanuka takes paycut with Giants

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(3/17/2014) The Giants restructured defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka's contract to create approximately $2 million worth of cap space on Monday, according to the USA Today.

Kiwanuka had 45 tackles, six sacks and two forced fumbles last season with the Giants.

Jameel McClain set to join the Giants

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3/14/2014) Free agent linebacker Jameel McClain has reached an agreement to join the Giants Thursday, according to NFL.com, though terms of the deal are not yet known.

McClain is coming off a pair of disappointing seasons, as he played in just 13 games in 2012 and 10 in 2013 after not missing a game in the first four seasons of his career. He finished 2013 with 52 tackles and one forced fumble for the Ravens.

Trumaine McBride heading back to the Giants?

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(3/10/2014) The Giants are close on a deal to bring back defensive back Trumaine McBride, according to a report from The Record on Monday. The free agency period begins on Tuesday.

McBride played in 15 games last season, making 37 tackles and two interceptions and defending 15 passes.

Jason Pierre-Paul won't need shoulder surgery

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(2/21/2014) Giants coach Tom Coughlin said defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul won't need surgery for his injured shoulder, reports the New York Daily News.

The report says Coughlin said "hopefully he’s going to return to feeling the way he has in past." Pierre-Paul said at the end of January he felt 90 percent healthy.

Linval Joseph too pricey for Giants to keep?

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/19/2014) The Giants want to re-sign defensive tackle Linval Joseph, but the impending free agent probably will be too expensive, reports The Star-Ledger. Joseph, 25, had 59 tackles, three sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery last season.

Second-year Giants defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins would play a much bigger role if Joseph leaves, the report added.

Former teammate urging Justin Tuck to stay with Giants

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(2/1/2014) Osi Umenyiora does not believe former Giants teammate and fellow defensive end Justin Tuck should follow his path out of town.

Umenyiora bolted for Atlanta in free agency last year, but has urged Tuck to stay with his current team.

"I've talked to Justin and I told him he should try whatever he can to stay in New York," Umenyiora said via The Star-Ledger. "Because he is New York."

Tuck will likely talk money with the Giants soon, but seems destined for free agency. His stock rose when he piled up 8 1/2 sacks in the last five games this season.

Giants working to keep Stevie Brown in fold

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(2/1/2014) Strong safety Stevie Brown missed the 2013 season with a torn ACL. Now the Giants are seeking to utilize his talents next year.

The impending free agent started 11 games in 2012 and led the team with eight interceptions. He is close to full health again and the Giants are working with him on a new contract. They have exclusive rights to Brown through March 8.

Meeting with Giants likely in vain for Justin Tuck

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1/31/2014) Giants defensive end Justin Tuck will be talking contract with his team soon, but doesn't expect it to amount to much. He appears destined for free agency.

"I think players would rather not hit free agency for the most part," he told The Star-Ledger. "That means that the team they're playing for at the time is pretty good and they want to stay and that team is giving them the amount of money they want to play for. So ... most people would rather not get to free agency, but it is an exciting time for me. ... I'll just go with the flow."

Tuck led the Giants this season with 11 sacks, including a whopping 8 1/2 in the last five games.

Report: Jason Pierre-Paul not expected to need surgery

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(1/27/2014) Jason Pierre-Paul's shoulder rehab is going well and it appears the Giants defensive end won't need surgery, reports Newsday. The injury limited Pierre-Paul to 11 games.

Terrell Thomas wants to be a starter next season

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(1/8/2014) Giants cornerback Terrell Thomas came back from two straight seasons lost to torn ACLs to play well in 2013, making 67 tackles with one interception and five pass breakups. The 29-year-old impending free agent, who played mostly in the slot, told the New York Daily News he wants to be a starter next season.

"At the end of the day, whether it's at safety, corner, nickel, I want to start, 16 games, every game, contribute every game I can," Thomas told the paper. "I want to get back to my old ways."

Thomas said he benefitted from the Giants' managing his practice and game reps, and that he should thrive in 2014 following a healthy offseason. "We had a plan, we executed it," he said. "It turned out great. Now it'll be different."

Giants aim to bring back Jon Beason

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/31/2013) The Giants have already expressed interest in retaining 28-year-old middle linebacker Jon Beason, who's set to become a free agent, reports NJ.com. Beason's acquisition in early October sparked a defensive turnaround. He made 98 tackles in 12 games.

“Jon came in and I think he stabilized our defense,” general manager Jerry Reese said. “He came in, he had a voice right away and he fit in very quickly with the players. He did a good job for us."

Surgery still a possibility for Jason Pierre-Paul

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/31/2013) Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, limited to 11 games by a shoulder injury, has not ruled out offseason surgery, reports the New York Daily News. Pierre-Paul said he'll decide by the end of January.

He finished with 27 tackles, two sacks, an interception and four passes defended.

Will Hill scores first career TD on INT

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/23/2013) Giants defensive back Will Hill, who was arrested on Friday, continued his controversial week as he took an interception back for a touchdown in Sunday's game against the Lions in Week 16.

Hill picked off Matthew Stafford and ran it back 38 yards to tie the game with 5:06 remaining in the fourth quarter. It was the second interception of his season and his career. He finished the game with a team-high 11 tackles (six solo) in a 23-20 overtime win.

Giants force OT with late-game INT

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/23/2013) The Giants came up big defensively during Sunday's win over the Lions in Week 16.

With the team down seven, Will Hill picked off Matthew Stafford and ran it back 38 yards for a score to send the game to overtime. Justin Tuck also chipped in with an interception, as the team sacked Stafford twice and allowed 355 yards of total offense in a 23-20 victory.

The Giants will end the season at home against Washington.

Giants may run into trouble in Detroit

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/20/2013) The Giants may have their hands full heading into Sunday's road game against the Lions in Week 16.

The Giants will try to contain Matthew Stafford, who may be in line for a bounce back game. Stafford was picked off three times his last time out at home against the Ravens in Week 15. New York has been stingy against the pass, allowing only one 300-yard passer over the last nine games. New York has yielded 229.0 passing yards per game this season.

The Giants will also have to keep Reggie Bush in check. Bush, who returned from a one-week absence due to a calf injury, had 17 carries for 86 yards with a touchdown and caught two of four targets for 15 yards. The Giants have allowed a rushing touchdown in four of the last five games. New York has allowed 107.4 yards per game on the ground this season.

Opposing DST units have scored only 8.86 Fantasy points per game this season. There are better DST matchups for this week, so consider the Giants a low-end option in deeper formats for Week 16.

Justin Tuck continues late-season surge

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/16/2013) Giants defensive end Justin Tuck continued his late-season surge during a 23-0 loss Week 15 vs. Seattle. Tuck totaled at least 1/2 sack for the fourth straight game.

Tuck totaled six tackles (three solo) and 1/2 sack Sunday. He is up to nine sacks on the season, with 7 1/2 coming in the last four games.

Ryan Mundy records first career sack

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/16/2013) Giants safety Ryan Mundy got his first career sack during a 23-0 loss Week 15 vs. Seattle. Mundy finished with six tackles (four solo), which included two tackles for loss.

Mundy has a career-high 66 tackles (44 solo) through 14 games.

Antrel Rolle showing plenty of heart down the stretch

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/16/2013) The Giants might be out of playoff contention, but that hasn't stopped safety Antrel Rolle from playing his heart out. Rolle had another standout performance Sunday, despite the Giants getting blown out 23-0 in Week 15 against Seattle.

Rolle got the only interception of Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, while finishing with seven tackles (six solo). Rolle has totaled 56 tackles (46 solo), five interceptions and nine pass defenses in his last eight games.

For the season, Rolle has 86 tackles (70 solo), two sacks, a career-high six interceptions and 11 pass defenses in 14 games.

Giants defense get no support from offense Week 15

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/15/2013) The Giants defense didn't have a bad showing Week 15 vs. Seattle. Unfortunately, the defense got zero support from the offense, as New York lost 23-0.

"We're not taking anything away from their defense," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said. "They're No. 1 in the league for a reason, they are a good defensive team. There's no excuse for what went on out there. We kept turning the ball over, and put our defense back out there over and over and over again."

The Giants held Seattle to just a pair of offensive touchdowns and three field goals. Seattle finished with 327 yards, including 134 rushing. The Giants defense forced one interception and four sacks of quarterback Russell Wilson.

The Giants are back in action Week 16 at Detroit.

Cullen Jenkins, Terrell Thomas active Week 15

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/15/2013) Giants defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins (shin, quadricep) and cornerback Terrell Thomas (knee) were cleared to play Week 15 vs. Seattle. Both players were listed as probable.

Giants list Week 15 inactives

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/15/2013) Giants quarterback Ryan Nassib, cornerback Corey Webster (ankle), safety Cooper Taylor (hamstring), defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul (shoulder), linebacker Allen Bradford, offensive lineman Stephen Goodin and tight end Adrien Robinson were listed as the team's inactives Week 15 vs. Seattle.

Giants DST usefulness in Fantasy is over

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/11/2013) The Giants DST string of strong outings ended Week 14 at San Diego, when the Chargers racked up 37 points and 388 yards. It was the first time in seven games the Giants DST scored less than 10 Fantasy points. The Giants DST had averaged 17.3 Fantasy points in the previous six games leading up to Week 14.

Unfortunately, it could be another down week for the Giants in Week 15 vs. Seattle since DSTs average just 5.9 Fantasy points per game against the Seahawks, which is the second-lowest average. Prior to the 49ers DST totaling 10 Fantasy points Week 14, DSTs managed just one Fantasy point in three straight games against Seattle.

The Giants are going to have their hands full trying to slow down one of the better teams in the NFL. Seattle ranks 12th in total offense (356.6 yards per game) and tied for third in scoring offense (27.5 points per game).

The Giants DST gave Fantasy owners a nice run, but it seems the good times are over. Try your best to keep the Giants DST out of active lineups Week 15.

Jason Pierre-Paul feeling better, could play Week 15

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/9/2013) Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, who's missed two straight games with a shoulder injury, is feeling better, reports the New York Post. Pierre-Paul is in position to practice this week and perhaps play Sunday vs. the Seahawks, according to the report.

Prince Amukamara makes a half-dozen tackles

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/9/2013) Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara made six tackles, five solo, in the loss at San Diego. He had one tackle for loss. Up to 72 tackles this season, Amukamara takes on the Seahawks in Week 15.
