(4/1/2014) The Jets announced the signing of defensive back Dimitri Patterson Tuesday, to a one-year deal worth $3 million according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Patterson played in just six games last season due to injuries, but played well when he was out there. He had four interceptions and 19 tackles in his six games. Patterson has played all 16 games in a season just once during a nine-year career.

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(3/16/2014) The Jets re-signed 33-year-old outside linebacker Calvin Pace to a two-year, $5 million deal, reports Pro Football Talk. He had 10 sacks, two forced fumbles and 53 tackles while playing every game last season.

Jets expected to pick up option for Muhammad Wilkerson

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(3/7/2014) The Jets plan on exercising a fifth-year option on defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson's contract before the May 3 deadline in the new collective bargaining agreement, reports the New York Daily News.

The report says the Jets could sign Wilkerson to a long-term contract extension this offseason, but that could be unlikely unless he "accepts a team-friendly deal."

Wilkerson is scheduled to earn $1.2 million in 2014. Per terms of the CBA, Wilkerson, the 30th pick in the 2011 draft, is in line for $5.25 million-$6 million in 2015 under the team option.

Jets announce re-signing of two defensive backs

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3/6/2014) The Jets announced they have re-signed a pair of impending free agents Wednesday, inking defensive backs Ellis Lankster and Darrin Walls prior to their entrance to free agency.

Lankster spent most of the 2013 season on special teams, recording 20 tackles in kick coverage. Walls spent more of his time on defense, finishing with 24 tackles and five passes defended in 16 games.

Jets not expected to bring back Ed Reed

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(2/14/2014) The Jets are unlikely to bring back safety Ed Reed for 2014, reports ESPN.

Reed, 35, is an unrestricted free agent, but the report says he doesn't figure in the immediate plans. He could be a fallback option if there's an injury down the line.

Reed, who had 27 tackles and three interceptions in 14 games in 2013, said he would like to play one more year.

Muhammad Wilkerson: I won't hold out

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/9/2014) Jets defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson, who's set to earn $1.2 million in 2014, dismissed speculation he might hold out. Wilkerson is eligible for a renegotiation after completing the first three years of his rookie deal.

"It will be taken care of, definitely," Wilkerson said of his contract situation, per ESPN.com. "But all that holdout and all that other talk that people were saying and everything -- I never said anything like that. I’m not going to hold out. It’s not something I want; it’s not something I’m thinking about. I’m going to show up like everybody else and do what I’m told."

Wilkerson had 64 tackles, 10.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception last season.

Rex Ryan refutes criticism of Sheldon Richardson

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(2/1/2014) Rex Ryan has delivered a strong rebuttal to the claim by Hall of Famer Warren Sapp that Jets rookie defensive end Sheldon Richardson lacks pass-rushing skills.

"I believe he can rush the passer," Ryan told the New York Daily News. "Maybe Sheldon doesn't rush the passer like Warren Sapp did. Very few in this league have ever rushed the passer the way Warren Sapp has ... but this is a young man now. This guy is just now scratching the surface."

Richardson started 15 of 16 games and managed 77 tackles, but just 3 1/2 sacks.

Antonio Cromartie avoids hip surgery

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1/30/2014) A trip to a specialist in California has revealed that Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie does not need surgery on his hip, per the New York Daily News.

Cromartie was suffering from a hip flexor throughout the 2013 season, but was told there was nothing wrong with his hip joint. He said he has been rehabbing for three weeks and expects to be 100 percent by the end of February.

He will likely not be back with the Jets next season. He expects to be cut so the team can remain under the salary cap.

Muhammad Wilkerson not worried about future with Jets

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1/29/2014) Jets blossoming defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson is not concerned about his contract situation, per the New York Post.

Wilkerson just completed the third season of a four-year contract that the Jets can extend to a fifth season. He claimed ignorance of what is in store for him.

"I'm not worried about that," he said. "That's why I have an agent."

Wilkerson finished 2013 with 64 tackles and 10 1/2 sacks, but was snubbed in the Pro Bowl voting.

Quentin Jammer can't see Jets losing Antonio Cromartie

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1/24/2014) Broncos cornerback Quentin Jammer will be taken aback if the Jets allow friend and former teammate Antonio Cromartie to walk in free agency, Newsday has reported. He believes the Jets will feel forced to keep him.

"I think they will," said Jammer, who referred to Cromartie as a phenomenal athlete. "I mean, you don't get rid of a guy like [Darrelle] Revis and then get rid of a guy like Cromartie."

Cromartie was a Pro Bowl alternate, but gained a spot when Patriots cornerback Aqib Talib was injured.

Dumping three contracts would give Jets money to spend

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1/22/2014) The Jets are likely to allow three highly paid players to leave in free agency, ESPN has speculated.

Dumping the contracts of wide receiver Santonio Holmes, quarterback Mark Sanchez and cornerback Antonio Cromartie would create $26.1 million in salary cap space, giving the Jets a total of more than $40 million in cap room.

Muhammad Wilkerson vows to earn trip to 2015 Pro Bowl

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1/22/2014) Jets defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson has vowed to earn a Pro Bowl spot next season. He was snubbed this year despite recording 64 tackles and 10 1/2 sacks.

"I think I should be in the Pro Bowl, but I'm going to use it as motivation for next year," he told WFAN. "I definitely know I'll be there for sure next year, in the Pro Bowl playing next year, for sure."

The lone Jets in this year's game are center Nick Mangold and cornerback Antonio Cromartie, both of whom were injury replacements.

Emerging Dee Milliner earns awards

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1/2/2014) What appeared at first to be a disastrous first draft pick in 2013 provided the Jets some vindication at the end of the season regarding cornerback Dee Milliner. His performance down the stretch has earned him AFC Defensive Rookie of the Month honors.

Milliner, who was benched twice during a tough first half of the year, shut down NFL leading receiver Josh Gordon in Week 16 with six pass breakups, and top Miami wideout Mike Wallace in the following game, registering three interceptions along the way.

Jets spoil Dolphins' season in finale

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/29/2013) The Jets defense stepped up in a big way in Week 17, keeping the Dolphins out of the playoffs with a 20-7 win.

Miami's offense managed to score just once, on a 5-yard touchdown in the second quarter. They did little else otherwise, ultimately finished with just 296 yards of total offense. The Jets DST unit wasn't able to take advantage of Miami's poor pass protection in the way of sacks, though they did harass Ryan Tannehill into three interceptions.

The Jets defense was probably better than the numbers indicate this season, but the doesn't matter much for Fantasy purposes. This young unit is likely to improve next season, but will probably be considered a low-end Fantasy option on Draft Day.

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
