(12/18/2011) Cincinnati DB Nate Clements tallied seven tackles and a sack during the Bengals 20-13 win over St. Louis in Week 15. Clements took down Rams QB Kellen Clemens for his first sack of the season. "If we finish strong, we'll give ourselves a chance," Clements said. "Guys are going to be focused on the opponent at hand."

Clements started 16 games with San Francisco last season and had one sack and three interceptions. Cincinnati needed another cornerback after Joseph signed with Houston earlier in the week.

He was reportedly informed of the pending release in the afternoon, as he and the team were unable to restructure his contract. The assumption is that he would have had to taken a pay cut to remain with the team in 2011. (5/24/2011) The San Jose Mercury News reports that CB Nate Clements is acting as if he will be back with the 49ers despite an unresolved contract situation. Clements said Monday after working out with a handful of 49ers teammates that he wants to return in 2011. "Absolutely," Clements said. "I never said I didn't. That's not really an issue." Clements, 31, will have to accept a pay cut to stay in San Francisco. He is in line to make more than $15 million this season, and Comcast Sports Net Bay Area reported in January that the 49ers will ask him to rework his deal or risk being released.
