(12/20/2014) 49ers running back Frank Gore (concussion) and wide receiver Michael Crabtree (knee) are active for Saturday's Week 16 matchup with the Chargers.

Both players were listed as questionable on the team's final injury report, though it was reported early Saturday that Gore would in fact suit up for the game. Crabtree has yet to miss a game this season.

Offensive tackle Anthony Davis (concussion) is also active after being listed as questionable. The team had several players listed as probable and all are active Saturday, including cornerbacks Perrish Cox (ankle) and Chris Culliver (knee), safety Bubba Ventrone (groin), linebacker Michael Wilhoite (hip), tackle Jonathan Martin (illness), center Marcus Martin (knee), tight end Kyle Nelson (back) and defensive linemen Justin Smith (back), Quinton Dial (knee) and Tony Jerod-Eddie (foot).

(12/19/2014) The 49ers have ruled the following players out for Saturday's game against San Diego: Linebacker Chris Borland (ankle), cornerback Tramaine Brock (hamstring), running back Carlos Hyde (ankle), wide receiver Stevie Johnson (knee).

Linebacker Ahmad Brooks (thumb), wide receiver Michael Crabtree (knee), right tackle Anthony Davis (concussion), running back Frank Gore (concussion), safety Raymond Vetrone (groin) and linebacker Michael Wilhoite (hip) were labeled as questionable.

Meanwhile, cornerback Perrish Cox (ankle), cornerback Chris Culliver (knee), defensive tackle Quinton Dial (knee), defensive end Tony Jerod-Eddie (foot), right tackle Jonathan Martin (illness), center Marcus Martin (knee), long snapper Kyle Nelson (back) and defensive end Justin Smith (back) were all deemed as probable.

Mike Iupati, Ray McDonald and Justin Smith are all active for the contest. Iupati is dealing with an elbow injury. McDonald has a finger issue. Smith is dealing with a back injury.

(12/12/2014) The 49ers have ruled four of the 11 players listed on its final injury report for Week 15 against Seattle. Those four include linebacker NaVorro Bowman (knee), tackle Anthony Davis (concussion), defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey (forearm) and wide receiver Steve Johnson (knee).

Cornerback Tramaine Brock (hamstring), cornerback Chris Culliver (knee), center Marcus Martin (knee) and safety Raymond Ventrone (groin) were deemed questionable.

Meanwhile, guard Mike Iupati (elbow), defensive end Ray McDonald (finger) and defensive end Justin Smith (back) were labeled as probable.

Crabtree came into the game listed as probable due to a knee injury. He was never really a threat to miss the contest. 

The team will have most of their probable players for the game. Chris Culliver, Bruce Ellington, Carlos Hyde, Stevie Johnson, Ray McDonald, Justin Smith and Joe Staley are all listed as active. All seven were considered probable.

Frank Gore among 49ers probables active Thursday

(11/27/2014) Six players listed as probable for Week 13 on the 49ers' final injury report are active Thursday, including running backs Frank Gore (knee) and Bruce Miller (shoulder), safeties Eric Reid (ankle) and Raymond Ventrone (groin), defensive tackle Justin Smith (back) and wide receiver Brandon Lloyd (quad).

Gore struggled in Week 12, managing just 36 yards on 13 carries, but he wasn't thought to be in danger of missing the key NFC West battle.

(11/25/2014) 49ers defensive end Justin Smith did not practice Tuesday due to a back injury, but defensive coordinator Vic Fangio told reporters he'd be surprised if Smith missed Thursday's game against the Seahawks. Smith has 33 tackles, four sacks and two forced fumbles this season.

When reporters asked defensive coordinator Vic Fangio about his injury, he said, "that's news to me." According to the Sacramento Bee, Smith should be ready to play Thanksgiving Day vs. Seattle.

Once-proud 49ers DST rendered toothless

(9/15/2014) Beset by injuries and suspension, the 49ers DST failed to force a turnover in the 28-20 loss to the Bears and their turnover-prone quarterback, Jay Cutler. The unit allowed Cutler to complete 13 of 14 passes in the second half and throw for four touchdowns overall.

While San Francisco allowed only 216 total yards, the defense rarely pressured Cutler. The 49ers hit him three times all game and recorded just one sack, by defensive lineman Justin Smith. The secondary was helpless to stop wideout Brandon Marshall, who caught three touchdowns.

The 49ers DST heads to Arizona in Week 3.

(7/23/2014) 49ers defensive lineman Justin Smith had offseason shoulder surgery to repair damage he sustained in camp a year ago, reports CSNBayArea.com. Smith, 34, spent the offseason rehabbing and missed all the on-field drills.

But Smith, who did not miss a game last year, says he's ready to go. "I feel healthy compared to last year," Smith said. "I feel a lot better than I did last year. This is it. This is the one I’m thinking about."


Justin Smith has procedure, will be fine for camp

(1/29/2014) 49ers defensive tackle Justin Smith played 73.3 percent of the team's defensive snaps, a big drop from previous years, reports CSNBayArea.com. San Francisco's depth on the defensive line, including Tony Jerod-Eddie and Demarcus Dobbs, enabled coaches to give the 34-year-old Smith more rest.

Smith still was highly productive, getting 49 tackles, 6.5 sacks and a forced fumble. He's signed through 2015.
