Bills defenders pitch in
|
Updated 10/11/2009 |
| Marcus Stroud, DT BUF | |
| News: Notable Bills defenders from Week 5 vs. the Browns include: DL Kyle Williams (10 total tackles, sack), DB Jairus Byrd (seven total tackles, interception), LB Keith Ellison (10 total tackles) and DL Marcus Stroud (nine total tackles). | Analysis: Of these defenders, Ellison and Stroud are good No. 2 options at their positions, and Byrd should also be someone to keep an eye on. The Bills play at the Jets in Week 6. |
Stroud brings down QB in Week 4
|
Updated 10/4/2009 |
| Marcus Stroud, DT BUF | |
| News: Bills DL Marcus Stroud totaled four tackles and one sack during a Week 4 loss to the Dolphins. It was his second sack of the season. | Analysis: For being a defensive tackle, Stroud is very good at making plays and is even a decent pass rusher. We would usually tell you to ignore most tackles, but Stroud remains a viable Fantasy DL in larger formats. |
DT Stroud back at practice
|
Updated 7/29/2009 |
| Marcus Stroud, DT BUF | |
| News: Bills starting defensive tackle Marcus Stroud returned to practice after missing two days with a hamstring injury. | Analysis: Stroud should be fine for the start of the season. Named a Pro Bowl alternate last season, Stroud finished fourth on the Bills with 45 tackles, 2 1/2 sacks, two fumbles recovered and one forced fumble. It was a solid comeback by a former three-time Pro Bowl selection who had been limited by injuries the previous two years. He's still not worth using as anything more than a one-week replacement off the waiver wire, though. |
Stroud tweaks hamstring in camp

| Marcus Stroud, DT BUF | |
| News: Buffalo DL Marcus Stroud experienced a slight pull of his left hamstring as the Bills opened camp. Stroud called the injury minor, though he may miss a few practices. Coach Dick Jauron estimated he would miss a week of work. | Analysis: This injury should not limit him when the season opens. |
DT Stroud gets extension with Bills
|

| Marcus Stroud, DT BUF | |
| News: Marcus Stroud's fresh start in Buffalo is paying off as the veteran defensive tackle was rewarded with a two-year contract extension potentially worth $16.5 million. Stroud's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that his client has signed an extension that includes $12 million in guaranteed money. Stroud, coming off his first season in Buffalo after being acquired in a trade with Jacksonville, had two years left on his existing contract and is signed through the 2012 season. The Bills defense finished 14th in the league last season in yards allowed, an improvement from 31st the previous year. | Analysis: Named a Pro Bowl alternate last season, Stroud finished fourth on the Bills with 85 tackles, registered 2 1/2 sacks, recovered two fumbles and forced one fumble. It was a solid comeback by a former three-time Pro Bowl selection who had been limited by injuries the previous two years and deemed expendable by the Jaguars. The Bills gave up two draft picks - a third- and fifth-round pick in 2008 - to acquire Stroud. He's still not worth using as anything more than a one-week replacement off the waiver wire, though. |
Stroud gets forced fumble
|
Updated 11/9/2008 |
| Marcus Stroud, DT BUF | |
| News: Buffalo DL Marcus Stroud had four tackles, a half-sack and a forced fumble Sunday at New England. | Analysis: Stroud is a low-end DL in IDP leagues and should only be used if needed in Week 11 against Cleveland. |
McGee, Stroud, Schobel hurt
|
Updated 10/1/2008 |
| Marcus Stroud, DT BUF | |
| News: Bills CB Terrence McGee, who wore a brace on his left knee and walked with a noticeable limp, was one of three defensive starters to miss practice Wednesday as the team prepared to play at Arizona. Coach Dick Jauron wouldn't rule McGee out, saying he will continue to have his sprained knee tested through the end of the week. McGee said the knee was still sore, but had improved since Monday, when he had difficulty walking. Also missing practice were DT Marcus Stroud (left shoulder) and DE Aaron Schobel (foot). They were hurt in last weekend's 31-14 win at St. Louis, but both finished the game. Jauron anticipated Stroud and Schobel returning to practice Thursday. McGee's injury is considered the most serious after the starting cornerback was hurt early in the first quarter against the Rams, when his leg was caught in the pile while making a tackle. | Analysis: If McGee can't play, the Bills would have nickelback Ashton Youboty and rookie first-round draft pick Leodis McKelvin split time opposite starter Jabari Greer against the Cardinals. Arizona (2-2) is coming off a 56-35 loss at the New York Jets. Kurt Warner had an NFL-season high 472 yards passing with two touchdowns and three interceptions. By not playing, McGee would get additional time to recuperate as the Bills are off next week until hosting San Diego on Oct. 19. If McGee is healthy and ready to go, consider him a low-end No. 2 DB for Week 5. The Bills DST is also a good start, but keep an eye on Stroud and Schobel also. Stroud and Schobel also expect to play. |
Stroud has revenge on the mind
|
Updated 9/10/2008 |
| Marcus Stroud, DT BUF | |
| News: Marcus Stroud used to dance between downs in Jacksonville, shaking his head wildly, jumping up and down and inciting the crowd. He would yell across the line of scrimmage, trying to intimidate opponents, rouse teammates and psych himself up for every play. It often worked. When he returns Sunday to the place where he spent the previous seven seasons, he'll be in a much different role. The Jaguars discarded the three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle in March, trading him to Buffalo for two second-day draft picks. Although Stroud downplayed his homecoming, his former teammates believe he wants to prove that Jacksonville made a mistake. "It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know he's going to be motivated," Jaguars defensive end Paul Spicer said. "He feels like he should still be here and he wants to show he can still play this game at a very high level, a Pro Bowl level." | Analysis: Stroud proved last week against Seattle he is still able to play at a high level. He had two sacks, seven tackles and two passes defended in the opener, a 34-10 victory. He broke through double teams, manhandled single blocks, altered Seattle's ability to run and pass, and essentially looked every bit like the guy who used to dominate the line of scrimmage for the Jaguars. "I feel good," Stroud said Wednesday. "I'm healthy, and it's just a matter of going out and playing now." Defensive tackles usually don't get a lot of sacks, so don't expect much from Stroud in that arena. He remains nothing more than a low-end Fantasy DL. |
Youboty leads Bills in tackles
|
Updated 9/7/2008 |
| Marcus Stroud, DT BUF | |
| News: Bills DB Ashton Youboty led his team with eight tackles in their Week 1 win over the Seahawks. Also contributing were DB Donte Whitner (six tackles), DL Marcus Stroud (six tackles, half a sack) and LB Paul Posluszny (six tackles). | Analysis: Posluszny is a No. 2 Fantasy LB in IDP play, while Whitner has some value as a low-end starting DB. Youboty and Stroud have minimal value. |
Stroud ready to go
|
Updated 5/28/2008 |
| Marcus Stroud, DT BUF | |
| News: The Buffalo News reports new Bills defensive tackle Marcus Stroud is embracing the Bills' defensive scheme after coming from Jacksonville. Stroud has been eagerly pursuing plays and running to the whistle during the Bills' spring practices the past week. The Bills hope Stroud's running ability will be good news all season long. He is the big, new addition to a Bills defense that ranked 31st in the NFL last season. Stroud made the Pro Bowl three straight years in 2003, '04 and '05. His last two seasons were hindered by ankle injuries. Stroud missed five games in the middle of the 2006 season due to an injury that required major surgery in January 2007. Microfracture surgery was performed on the right ankle in which tiny holes are drilled into the bone to promote the regrowth of cartilage in the joint. He came back from the injury last season but missed seven games four due to a steroid-related suspension and three due to a high sprain of his right ankle. | Analysis: Stroud says the surgery on the ankle was a non-issue last season, and he is recovered from the high-ankle sprain that ended his season last December. Stroud should be considered a low-end DL in IDP leagues. Even when he's dominant he doesn't create enough plays to make an impact. |
Stroud, Johnson come to Buffalo
|
Updated 3/3/2008 |
| Marcus Stroud, DT BUF | |
| News: The Bills have acquired DT Marcus Stroud from Jacksonville and signed DT Spencer Johnson to a five-year deal. Buffalo will give the Jaguars two draft picks, a third and a fifth according to FOX Sports, in exchange for Stroud. Listed at 6-foot-6 and 310 pounds, Stroud immediately solidifies what had been an undersized defensive line that was manhandled last season and unable to take the pressure off star pass-rushing defensive end Aaron Schobel. | Analysis: While Stroud and Johnson will help Schobel's production, they're not going to post many big stats themselves. Keep both of them off Fantasy rosters in 2008. |
Stroud could be traded to Bills
|
Updated 2/29/2008 |
| Marcus Stroud, DT BUF | |
| News: The Jaguars have given three-time Pro Bowl DL Marcus Stroud permission to seek a trade, according to Florida Times-Union. Stroud will be taking a visit to Buffalo, which could lead to a trade between the two teams for the defensive tackles services. The Jaguars have given Stroud permission to shop himself in a trade. Stroud's lofty salary (a team-high $6.3 million in 2008) and struggles to stay on the field have landed him on the trading block. Stroud has missed 12 games the past two seasons because of injuries and a steroid suspension. Between 2003 and 2005, Stroud was one of the NFL's best defensive tackles. He could help upgrade a Bills defense that ranked 25th against the run (124.6-yard average) last season. Atlanta also has expressed interest in Stroud. | Analysis: Keep an eye on what happens with Stroud. His Fantasy value in IDP leagues is minimal at this point, but he would be an upgrade to the Bills defense. |
Stroud has short season
|
Updated 2/1/2008 |
| Marcus Stroud, DT BUF | |
| News: Jaguars DL Marcus Stroud only played in nine games in 2007 due to an ankle injury, which forced him on injured reserve. Stroud finished the year with 22 tackles and three sacks. | Analysis: Stroud is expected to make a full recovery in 2008, but this is the second year in a row he's missed time with an ankle injury after playing in only 11 games in 2006. Consider Stroud a low-end DL in IDP leagues since his main value is as a run-stuffer and not much else. |
Marcus Stroud goes on IR
|
Updated 12/12/2007 |
| Marcus Stroud, DT BUF | |
| News: The Jacksonville Jaguars placed three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Marcus Stroud on injured reserve Wednesday, three days after he reinjured his surgically repaired right ankle. Stroud hurt his ankle Sunday when teammate John Henderson fell on him during the first play of the third quarter against Carolina. Stroud sustained a deep bone bruise, a similar injury that hobbled him late last season. He eventually had offseason microfracture surgery. Stroud acknowledged he took supplements to help recover from the operation and later tested positive for a banned substance and was suspended. Coach Jack Del Rio said Stroud will be sidelined at least six weeks, too long for the Jaguars to consider keeping him on the active roster. "It's a shame to lose him, but that's the situation," Del Rio said. "Like we've done all year when we lose people, we'll do the best we can to have other people step up, step in and play well, and we expect to continue to play good football." | Analysis: Stroud was barely a decent Fantasy option when healthy, so this shouldn't impact many Fantasy owners. The Jags play at Pittsburgh in Week 15. |
Stroud activated; Cooper waived

Updated 12/7/2007 |
| Marcus Stroud, DT BUF | |
| News: The Jacksonville Jaguars activated defensive tackle Marcus Stroud on Friday, the final step in his return from a four-game suspension. Stroud rejoined the team Monday and practiced all week in preparation for Sunday's game against Carolina. The three-time Pro Bowl lineman was suspended Nov. 6 for violating the league's steroids and related substances policy. To make room on the roster for Stroud, the Jaguars released linebacker Marquis Cooper. | Analysis: Stroud is worth a look only in the deepest of IDP leagues. Cooper shouldn't be on any Fantasy roster. |
DL Stroud returns from suspension

| News: Jaguars defensive tackle Marcus Stroud played dominoes with teammates Wednesday, then practiced with them for the first time in more than a month. The three-time Pro Bowl defender was glad to be back, ready to move on and willing to talk about every aspect of his four-game suspension for violating the league's steroid and related substances policy. "The only thing that was tough about it is I didn't want people to think I was a cheat," Stroud said. "God gave me this talent to play football, and I feel like I do it well, and I don't need any juice or anything else to help me." Stroud was suspended four games without pay Nov. 4, following a positive test for a banned supplement. Stroud said a doctor in Atlanta gave him the over-the-counter supplements as part of his rehabilitation from offseason ankle surgery. Stroud said he checked the bottle's ingredients with "the little booklet we get from the NFL" and found nothing illegal. | Analysis: Stroud was as surprised as anyone when the NFL notified him of his positive test. "I'm not here to point fingers at anybody," Stroud said, adding he has since severed ties with the doctor. "I made a mistake. I took them. It's on me. It's my responsibility. All the stuff was stuff out of any nutrition store. It wasn't like I was going online or going to the Orlando pharmacy." Stroud said it was the first time in his career he had ever taken a supplement. He also guaranteed it would be the last. Stroud has 33 tackles and three sacks in eight games. He could provide a boost for a defense that has struggled to pressure quarterbacks without blitzing and allowed a league-high 47 pass plays of 20 or more yards. He is merely a low-end Fantasy DL when active. |
Suspension over, Stroud rejoins team
|
Updated 12/3/2007 |
| Marcus Stroud, DT BUF | |
| News: Three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Marcus Stroud rejoined the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday after completing a four-game suspension for violating the league's steroid and related substances policy. The Jaguars (8-4) went 3-1 without the 6-foot-6, 310-pound defensive linemen, but his return was a welcome sign for a team that has struggled to pressure quarterbacks without blitzing. | Analysis: Stroud has 33 tackles and three sacks in eight games. And given four weeks to rest his troublesome right ankle, the one that required micro-fracture surgery in the offseason, the Jags expect him to be rejuvenated. "He'll be hungry because of the time he missed," Del Rio said. "His body ought to feel great because he had a little bit of a break. I'm sure he'll be anxious to get back and get back to work." Like most defensive tackles, though, Stroud has merely low-end value in Fantasy. |
DT Stroud's suspension official
|
Updated 11/6/2007 |
| Marcus Stroud, DT BUF | |
| News: Jaguars defensive tackle Marcus Stroud was suspended without pay by the NFL for four games on Tuesday for violating the NFL's steroids and related substances policy. Stroud, a three-time Pro Bowl lineman, admitted last week that he had taken supplements following offseason micro-fracture surgery on his right ankle. He said he was no longer taking the supplements, adding that he didn't plan to appeal the league's suspension. "I've been doing this for seven years," Stroud told WFXJ-AM radio in Jacksonville. "I don't have to take any of that stuff to get ahead to play on anything. I feel like I've got great God-given ability and it's just something that's misfortunate. Rules are rules, and I've got to abide by the rules like everybody else. If it was something that the NFL says is an illegal supplement or something I took, it's on me to know exactly what I'm putting in my body." | Analysis: Stroud is a one of the better defensive tackles in the NFL, but his Fantasy value is limited to larger IDP formats. His suspension shouldn't impact many owners. |

Stroud continues to practice, and appears as though will play Sunday, as reports surfaced Wednesday that he will be suspended four games for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, according to the Florida Times-Union. Stroud allegedly took a supplement that is banned by the league.
