News: The Houston Texans released veteran linebacker Rosevelt Colvin and 20 other players Friday, the day before NFL teams must set their 53-man rosters. Also released Friday was veteran safety Glenn Earl, who started 15 games in 2006 but missed all of last season with a fractured foot, and defensive tackle Anthony Maddox, who spent the last two seasons with the team. Other players released were fullback Jon Abbate, quarterbacks Shane Boyd and Alex Brink, linebackers Kevis Coley and Ben Moffitt, center Greg Eslinger, cornerbacks Jamar Fletcher, Derrick Roberson and Dexter Wynn, receivers Darnell Jenkins, LeRon McCoy and Mark Simmons, tight end Ryan Krause, defensive linemen Gabe Long and Jesse Nading, running back Marcel Shipp and tackle Torrin Tucker.	Analysis: Most of these players were fighting for backup roles with the Texans. They weren't going to be key players off the bat, and therefore, had little to no Fantasy value. It's safe to ignore them in Fantasy.

Analysis: Shipp played on a very limited basis in 2008, rushing just 15 times for 41 yards (2.7 avg.) with a rush TD, adding four catches for 25 yards. Shipp saw some of his workload as Edgerrin James' supplemental runner go onto J.J. Arrington's plate. Turning 30 in time for this season, Shipp has yet to really establish himself as a regular stat contributor. Keep him off rosters.

Such a case is in Week 13 when the good-offense/bad-defense Browns come to the desert.	Analysis: Shipp is a risky Fantasy play since he'll most likely deliver six points or no points to your team's bottom line. With the game expected to have a high total this week, Shipp is a solid desperation waiver-wire grab if you need help at running back in Week 13. Otherwise, he's just good insurance in deeper leagues for Edgerrin James.

News: Cardinals RB Marcel Shipp recorded his first rushing touchdown this season when he plunged in from 1-yard out during a Week 12 loss to the 49ers. Shipp finished the game with five rushes for 14 yards.	Analysis: Shipp actually could have had two touchdowns against the 49ers, but was stuffed on a few other sttempts down near the goal line. We have been waiting all season for Shipp to get goal-line carries and it seems as though the Cardinals might be inclined to use him in those situations. He still remains a risky Fantasy start heading into Week 13 against the Browns until we start to see some consistency.

Shipp is likely to be the team's short-yardage and goal-line back, although Edgerrin James will get some time in that role, too.	Analysis: Shipp has a chance to develop in the Cardinals' version of Marion Barber -- a touchdown vulture. However, we need to see him thrive in that role before offering him up as a viable Fantasy option. Right now, he is nothing more than an insurance policy for Edge owners.

News: The East Valley Tribune reports that Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt has been in contact with RB Edgerrin James and wants him to be ready to lose some carries over the course of the season. Last year, James was worked hard, carrying the ball 337 times out of Arizona's 378 rushing attempts. "I said, 'Edgerrin, if you run 1,000 plays in the course of a season and we are 55 or 58 percent run, that is 580 plays,'" Whisenhunt said. "I said, 'Edgerrin, you are not going to carry the ball 580 times. You're not going to do it.' He (said), 'OK coach, OK. But you got to get me my carries.' He's a good back. But he's not going to get every carry."	Analysis: James is expected to lose a handful of reps each week to Marcel Shipp and J.J. Arrington, but it remains to be seen if either of those rushers will rob James of goal-line carries (Shipp did towards the end of 2007). Owners shouldn't be too worried. View him as a low-end No. 2 RB option who should have at least one more good year left in the tank as he enters 2007 as a 29-year-old runner who has played seven full or near-full seasons in eight years. Expect to see him go somewhere in the second round in most drafts this summer.

News: The Arizona Cardinals agreed to terms Saturday on a three-year contract with running back Marcel Shipp. Shipp has spent his entire six-year NFL career with Arizona after making the team as an undrafted free agent out of Massachusetts in 2001. He was backup to Edgerrin James last season and figures to fill the same role under new coach Ken Whisenhunt. He carried just 17 times for 41 yards last season but scored four of the team's 12 rushing touchdowns. Shipp has gained 2,156 yards in the NFL, averaging 3.65 yards per attempt. He gained 834 yards in 2002 and 830 in 2003.	Analysis: Shipp ended the year as a short-yardage/goal-line back, but could serve more as a backup and less as a goal-line option in 2007. He's at best a late-round pick for those owners who take Edgerrin James in Fantasy drafts.

But between those scoring outbursts, Shipp did not have a touchdown. In that span, he touched the ball 505 times from scrimmage without setting foot in the end zone, yet coach Dennis Green had confidence in him near the goal line. Shipp scored on runs of 1, 6 and 9 yards. Edgerrin James, who gained 115 yards rushing, watched from the sideline and cheered on Shipp. "I told Shipp, 'You can go get all the touchdowns; I want to get some yards,' " James said.
