Texans cut 20 players Friday Texans cut 20 players Friday Updated 8/29/2008
Marcel Shipp, RB ARI
News: The Houston Texans released veteran linebacker Rosevelt Colvin and 20 other players Friday, the day before NFL teams must set their 53-man rosters. Also released Friday was veteran safety Glenn Earl, who started 15 games in 2006 but missed all of last season with a fractured foot, and defensive tackle Anthony Maddox, who spent the last two seasons with the team. Other players released were fullback Jon Abbate, quarterbacks Shane Boyd and Alex Brink, linebackers Kevis Coley and Ben Moffitt, center Greg Eslinger, cornerbacks Jamar Fletcher, Derrick Roberson and Dexter Wynn, receivers Darnell Jenkins, LeRon McCoy and Mark Simmons, tight end Ryan Krause, defensive linemen Gabe Long and Jesse Nading, running back Marcel Shipp and tackle Torrin Tucker. Analysis: Most of these players were fighting for backup roles with the Texans. They weren't going to be key players off the bat, and therefore, had little to no Fantasy value. It's safe to ignore them in Fantasy.

News: The Texans have signed RB Marcel Shipp as the team aims to fill the spot left open after starting RB Ahman Green hurt his groin on his first carry of the preseason. Analysis: Shipp is a longshot to make the final roster. Keep him off of Fantasy teams for now.
Cardinals release RB Shipp Cardinals release RB Shipp Updated 8/4/2008
Marcel Shipp, RB ARI
News: The Arizona Republic reports that the Cardinals have released veteran RB Marcel Shipp. It appears that rookie RB Tim Hightower will take his spot as the No. 3 running back on the Cardinals' roster. Analysis: Shipp played on a very limited basis in 2008, rushing just 15 times for 41 yards (2.7 avg.) with a rush TD, adding four catches for 25 yards. Shipp saw some of his workload as Edgerrin James' supplemental runner go onto J.J. Arrington's plate. Turning 30 in time for this season, Shipp has yet to really establish himself as a regular stat contributor. Keep him off rosters.

News: Marcel Shipp played on a very limited basis in 2008, rushing just 15 times for 41 yards (2.7 avg.) with a rush TD, adding four catches for 25 yards. Shipp saw some of his workload as Edgerrin James' supplemental runner go onto J.J. Arrington's plate. Analysis: Shipp will be 30 next season and has yet to really establish himself as a regular stat contributor. Fantasy owners should only consider him with a final-round choice in the deepest of leagues if he is a true backup to somebody.

News: Cardinals RB Marcel Shipp, TE Tim Euhus, WR Jerheme Urban and backup QB Tim Rattay all dressed for Arizona's 31-24 loss to the Saints in Week 15, but didn't record an offensive stat. Analysis: Urban is the only one of these guys with any Fantasy value at this time, but is a risky start in Week 16 against the Falcons, as evidenced by his Week 15 performance.
Shipp docked in Seattle Shipp docked in Seattle Updated 12/9/2007
Marcel Shipp, RB ARI
News: Cardinals RB Marcel Shipp carried two times for four yards during a Week 14 loss to the Seahawks. It was just the second time in four games he carried the ball at least once. Analysis: The Cardinals continue to be erratic when deciding how to utilize Shipp. He doesn't appear to be just a goal-line back and that's not good for Fantasy owners. He has little to no Fantasy value heading into Week 15 against the Saints.

News: Cardinals RB Marcel Shipp caught one pass for one yard during a Week 13 win against the Browns. He did not record a carry. This performance comes a week after rushing the ball five times for 14 yards and scoring his first touchdown of the season against the 49ers. Analysis: The Cardinals continue to be erratic when deciding how to utilize Shipp. He doesn't appear to be just a goal-line back and that's not good for Fantasy owners. He has little to no Fantasy value heading into Week 14 against the Seahawks.
Shipp to score on Browns? Shipp to score on Browns? Updated 11/30/2007
Marcel Shipp, RB ARI
News: Marcel Shipp appears to have a role as the Cardinals' goal-line back for the time being, a valuable spot to have in games where Arizona is expected to be in a high-scoring shootout. Such a case is in Week 13 when the good-offense/bad-defense Browns come to the desert. Analysis: Shipp is a risky Fantasy play since he'll most likely deliver six points or no points to your team's bottom line. With the game expected to have a high total this week, Shipp is a solid desperation waiver-wire grab if you need help at running back in Week 13. Otherwise, he's just good insurance in deeper leagues for Edgerrin James.
Shipp finally sees goal-line touches Shipp finally sees goal-line touches Updated 11/25/2007
Marcel Shipp, RB ARI
News: Cardinals RB Marcel Shipp recorded his first rushing touchdown this season when he plunged in from 1-yard out during a Week 12 loss to the 49ers. Shipp finished the game with five rushes for 14 yards. Analysis: Shipp actually could have had two touchdowns against the 49ers, but was stuffed on a few other sttempts down near the goal line. We have been waiting all season for Shipp to get goal-line carries and it seems as though the Cardinals might be inclined to use him in those situations. He still remains a risky Fantasy start heading into Week 13 against the Browns until we start to see some consistency.
Five Cardinals go statless Five Cardinals go statless Updated 11/18/2007

News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston, RB Marcel Shipp, TE Troy Bienneman, WR Sean Morey and TE Ben Patrick all dressed for Arizona's Week 11 win over the Bengals, but didn't record an offensive stat. Analysis: None of these players have any Fantasy value at this time and should be ignored in Week 12 when Arizona hosts San Francisco.

Marcel Shipp, RB ARI
News: Marcel Shipp had just one carry for one yard at Tampa Bay on Sunday. Analysis: Shipp will need an injury to Edgerrin James to occur before his Fantasy value increases. For now, leave him as a free agent. Arizona hosts the Lions in Week 10.

News: Cardinals RB Marcel Shipp rushed one time for minus-1 yard during a Week 7 loss to the Redskins. He also had one reception for seven yards. Analysis: Shipp has just four carries for 22 yards in seven games. While Edgerrin James remains healthy, Shipp has no real Fantasy value except for insurance for James' owners. Many thought Shipp might see goal-line carries in 2007, but that has yet to happen.

News: RB J.J. Arrington, RB Marcel Shipp, TE Troy Bienemann, TE Tim Euhus and WR Sean Morey all dressed for the Cardinals in Week 6's loss to the Panthers, but didn't record an offensive stat. Analysis: As Edgerrin James' backup, Shipp is the only one in this group that has any Fantasy value at this time. The Cardinals play at Washington in Week 7 and none of these players should be starting, Fantasy-wise.
