News: The Jaguars on Thursday released defensive end Aaron Kampman. The 10-year veteran signed as an unrestricted free agent in 2010 but was limited to 11 games in two seasons because of knee injuries. He had been working on the side during the offseason after playing three games last season.
Analysis: Kampman's career might be over. He hasn't been overly effective for years anyway and shouldn't be on anyone's Fantasy roster.
News: The Jaguars placed DL Aaron Kampman on injured reserve Friday because of a hamstring injury.
Analysis: It's been another rough season for Kampman, who missed the first five games because he was still recovering from knee surgery. He dressed for three games, but he never recorded a stat. Kampman might never be the pass rusher he used to be, so cut him in all Fantasy formats.
News: Jaguars DL Aaron Kampman appeared to be limited for a second consecutive practice on Thursday. He returned to the field this past Sunday after missing the first five games of the season while returning from a torn ACL.
Analysis: Kampman did not record any stats in Week 6 but the good news is that he appears to be healthy once again. He used to be a prolific sack man and should be able to get after the quarterback with the Jaguars. Keep an eye on his progress going forward before picking him up in Fantasy IDP formats. He should be reserved in most formats for now.
News:Aaron Kampman played solidly in his first action of the season Sunday, Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said Monday. Kampman played about 16 plays against Pittsburgh after missing the first five games with a torn ACL sustained midway through last season.
Analysis: Kampman did not record any stats in Week 6 but the good news is that he appears to be healthy once again. He used to be a prolific sack man and should be able to get after the quarterback with the Jaguars. Keep an eye on his progress going forward before picking him up in Fantasy IDP formats.
News: Jacksonville DL Aaron will make his season debut in Week 6 against Pittsburgh after being declared active for Sunday's game. Kampman has yet to play this year after being sidelined while recovering from surgery to repair his torn ACL.
Analysis: Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said Kampman will be on the field for roughly 15-20 plays. Kampman, who was listed as probable on the injury report, should be viewed as a low-end option in Fantasy IDP formats until he returns to full strength in games.
News: Jaguars DE Aaron Kampman (knee) will play Week 6 against the Steelers for the first time this season, coach Jack Del Rio said Friday. Del Rio confirmed that Kampman, who missed the first five games, will play about 15-20 plays. He is slated as probable on the injury report.
Analysis: Don't be surprised that the Jags are going to limit Kampman's reps until he is back to full strength. This is a step in the right direction, but Kampman still has low-end Fantasy appeal until further notice.
News: Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said Wednesday that DL Aaron Kampman, who has yet to play this season because of a knee injury, will make his 2011 debut in Week 6 at Pittsburgh, barring a setback.
Analysis: The Jaguars have statistically done well in Kampman's absence, but getting back an elite pass rusher shouldn't can't hurt. However, don't be surprised if Kampman is limited as he gets back into game shape. Also, we need to see if he can still play at his old level coming off major knee problems, so temper expectations initially. The Jaguars DST also remains a low-end option.
News: Jaguars DL Aaron Kampman (knee) was among the team's inactives for Week 5 against the Bengals. The Florida Times-Union reports that there is a good chance that Kampman will be active for Week 6 at the Steelers.
Analysis: Kampman is not quite ready to play, as he is still recovering from knee surgery. Should he play in Week 6, he could be a low-end option for owners in IDP leagues.
News: Jacksonville DL Aaron Kampman was listed as questionable for Week 5 against Cincinnati because of a lingering knee injury. Kampman, who has not played this season as a result of the injury, was able to practice this past week. Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said that while Kampman may be available Sunday, hes inclined to sit him out another week.
Analysis: The Jaguars are hopeful Kampman can make his season debut as the team looks to avoid a 1-4 start. The 31-year-old is still recovering from surgery to repair his ACL so Fantasy owners should continue to monitor his progress. He should be viewed as a low-end option when healthy.
News: Jaguars DL Aaron Kampman (knee) was back at practice on Wednesday after missing the first four games of the season. He worked with the first team.
Analysis: Kampman told the Florida Times Union on Monday that he hopes to return for Week 5 against the Bengals. He has missed the past 12 games after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament but it looks as though he could be on the verge of returning. Keep an eye on his status going forward to see if it will be in Week 5. When healthy, Kampman could be considered a low-end starting Fantasy DL in IDP formats.
News: Jaguars DL Aaron Kampman told the Florida Times Union on Monday that he hopes to return for Week 5 against the Bengals. He has yet to play this season due to a knee injury. "I'm as hopeful as ever that it's soon," Kampman said. "I don't know, but I practiced last week a little bit, getting more involved in all those football activities on the field. We'll see how it goes."
Analysis: Kampman has missed the past 12 games after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament but it looks as though he could be on the verge of returning. Keep an eye on his status going forward to see if it will be in Week 5. When healthy, Kampman should be considered a low-end Fantasy DL in IDP formats.
News: Jacksonville DE Aaron Kampman will miss his fourth consecutive game to start the season with a knee injury. Kampman, who was limited in practice the last two days and said he is improving, is listed as out for the team's Week 4 matchup against New Orleans.
Analysis: Kampman could be nearing a return next week for the Jaguars' game against Cincinnati, but nothing is assured as he continues to recover from surgery to repair his ACL. Fantasy owners should view the 31-year-old as a low-end option when healthy as he will likely need time to return to full strength.
News: Jaguars DL Aaron Kampman was inactive for a third straight game because of a knee injury Week 3 at Carolina. The Jaguars had already ruled him out earlier in the week.
Analysis: Kampman missed half of last season with the same injury, so he might be a little rusty even when he returns. He has been a top pass rusher in the past, but he's just a low-end option in Fantasy IDP leagues.
News: Jaguars DE Aaron Kampman, who missed the first two regular-season games with a knee injury that kept him out the last half of last season, will not play Week 3 against Carolina, Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said Monday.
Analysis: The Jaguars continue to treat Kampman on a week-to-week basis, but clearly they know he won't be back Sunday, so they aren't going to drag out the suspense. We know Kampman has been a solid pass rusher in the past, but you have to wonder if all these knee injuries have taken its toll on him. He is worth stashing in deeper Fantasy IDP formats, but don't activate him yet.
News: Jaguars DL Aaron Kampman (knee) was officially ruled out for Week 2 at N.Y. Jets. He did not practice all week.
Analysis: Kampman said earlier in the week he has no official timetable for his return, so it appears it's a week-to-week issue. We know Kampman has been a solid pass rusher in the past, but you have to wonder if all these knee injuries have taken its toll on him. He is worth stashing in deeper Fantasy IDP formats, but don't activate him for Week 2.
News: According to the team's official website, Jaguars DL Aaron Kampman (knee) said on Monday that he does not have a timetable for his return. Kampman was held out in Week 1 against Tennessee. I dont think theres really a set, Hey, this is it this is where Im going to be, Kampman said Monday.
Analysis: Kampman, who on Monday wore a knee brace and had his left knee tightly wrapped, missed the first three preseason games before playing the preseason finale. He had swelling after the preseason finale against St. Louis, and after being limited in practice last week, was ruled out against the Titans shortly before kickoff. Kampman is coming off a serious knee injury and two straight injury-plagued seasons. He was a premier pass rusher before injuries caught up to him and the Jaguars are going to reduce his workload in 2011 to hopefully keep him on the field. Even if Kampman plays soon, he is a low-end Fantasy start because he needs to prove himself again before he returns to high-end status.
News: After seeing limited practice time all week with a knee injury, Jaguars DL Aaron Kampman was ruled inactive for the Week 1 tilt against the Titans. He had limited reps throughout the preseason to nurse the injury.
Analysis: Kampman is coming off a serious knee injury and two straight injury-plagued seasons, and he is still not at 100 percent. We expect the knee to remain an issue for the short-term, so Fantasy owners should keep up with his progress. Kampman is obviously a player to void in IDP formats for now, but he is considered a low-end option when healthy.
News: Jaguars DL Aaron Kampman (knee) is listed as questionable for Week 1 vs. Tennessee. He has been limited in practice all week after having limited reps throughout the preseason.
Analysis: Kampman is coming off a serious knee injury and two straight injury-plagued seasons. He was a premier pass rusher before injuries caught up to him and the Jaguars are going to reduce his workload in 2011 to hopefully keep him on the field. Even if Kampman plays Week 1, then he is a low-end Fantasy start because he needs to prove himself again before he returns to high-end status.
News: Jaguars DE Aaron Kampman likely will play about 45 snaps per game instead of the about 70 he played last year so he can concentrate on rushing the passer. He has played in less than 10 games in each of the last two seasons, finishing with four sacks or less in each.
Analysis: Kampman is not getting any younger, so a 31-year old situational pass-rusher role may help to elongate his career and Fantasy value. Plenty of players make solid contributors as simply sack specialist, and Kampman has three seasons to his name with 9 1/2 sacks or more. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on his progress with the new role, but it may solidify him as a late-round sleeper in IDP formats on Draft Day.
News: The Florida Times-Union reports that Jaguars DE Aaron Kampman, who had ACL replacement surgery in the fall, is doing well in his recovery. As Kampman sees it, he hasn't been concerned about the knee in a while. "It's been great," Kampman said. "I'm training like I normally would train." Kampman tore the ACL in his right knee in November after the Jaguars bye week. It was the second consecutive fall in which Kampman suffered a major knee injury. The previous year, while with the Green Bay Packers, Kampman tore the ACL in his left knee. The first time, he made a full recovery and was almost an every-snap player in the 2010 season, until the injury to his right knee. Jaguars GM Gene Smith said Kampman will be ready for training camp but the team will limit him.
Analysis: Kampman should be considered a low-end DL in IDP leagues on Draft Day. As long as his knee is 100 percent, he would be worth drafting with a late-round pick in deeper formats.
News: Recovery from ACL surgery will limit Jaguars DE Aaron Kampman heading into next season. Kampman finished second on the team in sacks with four despite missing eight games. "I wont be able to take part in all the offseason stuff as far as on the field, but Ill be ready to go when we kick it off in September,'' he said.
Analysis: The Jags may search for another defensive end this offseason. Kampman will be coming back from his second ACL surgery in two years and really hasn't been a powerhouse for a while. Owners should pass on Kampman unless he shows dramatic improvement once he starts to play.
News: The Jaguars have placed DE Aaron Kampman on IR. Kampman tore an ACL Thursday in practice. The team has signed rookie DT Nate Collins from the Giants' practice squad and added DT Dre Moore to the practice squad.
Analysis: This is a huge blow for the Jaguars defense, who will have trouble stopping Arian Foster on Sunday afternoon. While Kampman's Fantasy value wasn't as high as his real value to Jacksonville, he was worth using in deeper IDP Fantasy leagues, so be sure to drop him now.
News: Jaguars DL Aaron Kampman tore an ACL in practice Thursday. He is out for the season.
News:The Florida Times-Union reports Jaguars DL Aaron Kampman suffered a knee injury during practice Thursday and is headed for an MRI. Kampman tore the ACL in his left knee last November as a member of the Green Bay Packers.
Analysis: Kampman has been lauded more for his leadership in his first year with Jacksonville than his production on the field. He does have four sacks and 25 tackles, but he isn't the same pass rusher he was in the past. Kampman is a low-end Fantasy DL when healthy, but his status for Week 10 is in jeopardy.
News: Jaguars DE Aaron Kampman was one of the few players to perform well on defense Sunday at Kansas City in Week 7. Kampman had five tackles and a sack. It was Jacksonville's only sack in the game.
Analysis: Kampman now has four sacks on the season, and he remains a quality DL in IDP leagues. Plan on starting him in all IDP formats in Week 8 at Dallas and hope he can come away with sack No. 5.
News: Jaguars DL Aaron Kampman, who was listed as probable with an ankle injury for Monday's game, was a non-factor in Week 6 against the Titans. Kampman had just one assisted tackle in the 30-3 loss.
Analysis: Kampman has three sacks on the season, but just 15 tackles. He has been bit inconsistent this season and should only be considered a low-end Fantasy DL in most IDP leagues heading into Week 7.
News: Jaguars DL Aaron Kampman was listed as active for Week 6 against the Titans. Kampman, who was probable with an ankle injury coming into Monday night, has 15 tackles in the year with three sacks and two passes defended.
Analysis: Kampman matched his season total of sacks in Week 5 and is a half a sack away from matching his total from a year ago. He could reach the double-digit mark for the second time in his career. He appears to be over his slow start so Fantasy owners in IDP leagues should view Kampman as a viable DL option.
News: The official injury report for the Monday night game featuring Tennessee and Jacksonville came out on Saturday and Jaguars DL Aaron Kampman was listed as probable for the game due to his ankle injury.
Analysis: With three sacks on the season, Kampman is a half a sack away from matching last season's total. He appears to be over his slow start and is healthy for the Week 6 game so Fantasy owners in IDP leagues should view Kampman as a viable DL option.
News: Jaguars DL Aaron Kampman put constant pressure on the Bills in Week 5. He had six tackles and sacked QB Ryan Fitzpatrick 1.5 times in the 36-26 win. He also had a pass defended and two tackles for loss in the victory.
Analysis: Kampman matched his season total of sacks in Week 5 and now has three on the year. He is a half a sack away from matching his total from a year ago and could reach the double-digit mark for the second time in his career. He appears to be over his slow start so Fantasy owners in IDP leagues should view Kampman as a viable DL option.
News: Jaguars DL Aaron Kampman recorded two tackles in Week 4 against the Colts.
Analysis: Kampman is a leader on the Jaguars defense but has just three sacks in the last two games. Through four weeks he has just seven tackles and 1 1/2 sacks. His Fantasy ownership has dropped 10 percent sine Week 2 and with good reason -- he hasn't been producing. He may be having a slow start, but Fantasy owners in IDP leagues should view him as a low-end DL option.
News: Jaguars DL Aaron Kampman did not put up many stats in Week 3 against the Eagles. The 30-year-old recorded just one tackle in the 28-3 loss. He also had two quarterback hits and a pass defended.
Analysis: Kampman has just five tackles through the first three weeks of the season but also has 1 1/2 sacks. That puts him on pace to surpass the 3 1/2 sacks he had a year ago and he should be able to produce as a starter in Jacksonville. Despite his slow start to the year, Fantasy owners should continue to view Kampman as a low-end Fantasy DL in IDP leagues.
News: Jacksonville DL Aaron Kampman didn't do too much in Week 2 against San Diego, as he recorded just two tackles. Kampman signed with the Jaguars in the offseason to help provide some pass rush as the Jags had just 14 sacks in 2009.
Analysis: Kampman recorded 27 sacks from 2006 to 2008, so Jacksonville knows what they have. After recording three tackles and 1 1/2 sacks in Week 1, Kampman's outing on Sunday definitely was a disappointment. Heading into Week 3 against Philadelphia, Kampman should be viewed as a low-end Fantasy DL in IDP leagues.
News: Jaguars DL Aaron Kampman impressed in his Jacksonville debut on Sunday, making three tackles and recording 1 1/2 sacks in a Week 2 win over the Broncos. "Already got a little return on that investment,'' coach Jack Del Rio said of Kampman, who was signed as a free agent in the offseason.
Analysis: Kampman recorded 27 sacks from 2006 to 2008, so he can get after the passer when healthy, but was a bit of a question mark coming into 2010 after knee surgery in December. This is a great start to his latest campaign though, and if he does well again in Week 2 at San Diego he will really start to attract even more IDP formats. For now, continue to start him in deeper leagues as a low-end starting DL.
News: Jaguars DE Aaron Kampman did not suit up for Friday's preseason opener against the Eagles. He has been limited in training camp after having surgery to repair an ACL in December.
Analysis: Kampman was signed by the Jaguars in the offseason to provide pass rush they've been in desperate need of. He recorded 27 sacks from 2006 to 2008, so he can get after the passer when healthy, but that remains a bit of a question mark. If he is fit, consider Kampman a No. 1 Fantasy option at DL in IDP leagues. However, that's a big if, so check his status before drafting him.
News: The Associated Press reported Tuesday that Jaguars DL Aaron Kampman had his left knee wrapped. He is seven months removed from ACL surgery on his left knee.
Analysis: We just hope this is a precautionary thing and not a setback for Kampman, who has been one of the better pass rushers in the NFL the last few years. He is in his first year with the Jaguars and his rehab has been going well. Keep tabs on Kampman's progress, but he is clearly an injury-risk selection in Fantasy IDP leagues since he is coming off a major injury.
News: Jaguars DE Aaron Kampman, signed as a free agent and coming off ACL surgery, was limited in practice Friday but said he will be "full go" going forward. He said his recovery has suffered no setbacks.
Analysis: Consider Kampman a No. 2 Fantasy DL until he proves himself healthy, at which point he should be elevated to a low-end No. 1 option. Remember, there aren't many quality Fantasy DL out there now that much of the NFL has gone to the 3-4 scheme.
News: Jaguars DE Aaron Kampman (knee) is ahead of schedule, according to coach Jack Del Rio on Wednesday, but he won't practice in OTA workouts. Del Rio said Kampman will rejoin practice in training camp but the team "will be smart" about working him. Kampman had knee surgery in December.
Analysis: Consider Kampman a No. 2 Fantasy DL until he proves himself healthy, at which point he should be elevated to a low-end No. 1 option. Remember, there aren't many quality Fantasy DL out there now that much of the NFL has gone to the 3-4 scheme.
News: Following knee surgery in early December, Aaron Kampman's goal was to walk without a limp in seven days. He did it. If the rest of his rehab continues at the same pace, the Jacksonville Jaguars could end up with one of the best free agent signings of the offseason. Kampman, a two-time Pro Bowl defensive end who signed a four-year contract worth $26 million with Jacksonville, expects to be on the field when training camp begins in July and give his new team a much-needed boost to its pathetic pass rush. "I anticipate being ready to get after it," Kampman said Monday. "My knee is great. I'm very encouraged by it."
Analysis: Good news, Fantasy fans: We've regained a defensive lineman. Even the Jaguars' official team Web site is calling him a defensive end, and he confirmed that he would indeed "put his hand on the ground." His days of being a meaningless Fantasy LB are over. Consider Kampman a No. 2 Fantasy DL until he proves himself healthy, at which point he should be elevated to a low-end No. 1 option. Remember, there aren't many quality Fantasy DL out there now that much of the NFL has gone to the 3-4 scheme.
News: Thirty-year-old defensive end Aaron Kampman signed with the Jaguars on Sunday, giving the small-market franchise a big-time boost to their pass-rush woes. He is expected to switch back to a defensive end with the Jaguars, though his availability for the start of the 2010 season is in question after he tore his ACL in late November. He had 3.5 sacks as an outside linebacker last season but put up at least nine sacks in each of the previous three seasons as an end with a career-best 15.5 in 2006.
Analysis: Good news, Fantasy fans: We've regained a defensive lineman. Even the Jaguars' official team Web site is calling him a defensive end, so his days of being a meaningless Fantasy LB are over. Consider Kampman a No. 2 Fantasy DL until he proves himself healthy, at which point he should be elevated to a low-end No. 1 option. Remember, there aren't many quality Fantasy DL out there now that much of the NFL has gone to the 3-4 scheme.
News: Packers LB Aaron Kampman says the rehabilitation work on his injured left knee is ahead of schedule and he expects to be ready for the beginning of training camp. Now he just needs to figure out where he'll be playing next season. Kampman, a two-time Pro Bowl selection for the Packers, has played all eight of his NFL seasons in Green Bay. But he's scheduled to become a free agent and his future with the team remains unclear.
Analysis: So much of Kampman's future is up in the air, including what position he will play. For now, consider him nothing more than a late-round flier for 2010.
News: The Packers placed outside linebacker Aaron Kampman on injured reserve and signed Cyril Obiozor from the practice squad. Obiozor was active Monday night of Week 13 against Baltimore.
Analysis: Kampman's season is officially over. He has no Fantasy value and neither does his replacement on the roster.
News: Green Bay LB Aaron Kampman (knee) has been ruled out for Week 13 against Baltimore on Monday night.
Analysis: Kampman is expected to eventually land on IR. He has little Fantasy value at this time.
News: Notable inactives from the Packers-Lions Week 12 matchup on Thanksgiving include: Packers WR Biren Ealy, CB Josh Bell, RB Ahman Green, DB Matt Giordano, LB Aaron Kampman and DE Jarius Wynn. For the Lions, QB Drew Stanton (third QB), WR Derrick Williams, DB Kalvin Pearson, FB Terrelle Smith, LB Ernie Sims and DE Dewayne White are inactive.
Analysis: Matthew Stafford is listed as the Lions' starter and Calvin Johnson will also play. Both should be considered No. 2 options at their position. Everyone else listed here isn't worth owning in standard Fantasy play, including Kampman, who is expected to land on IR.
News: Green Bay cornerback Al Harris and linebacker Aaron Kampman will both have season-ending knee surgery. Coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that losing the two veterans will be a major challenge to the Packers, who have a 6-4 record and are in the middle of the NFC wild card race after Sunday's victory over San Francisco. With a Thanksgiving Day game in Detroit just three days away, McCarthy says coaches still are considering their options at each position. Harris and Kampman were both taken to the locker room after being hurt on separate plays in the second half of Week 11 vs. San Francisco. McCarthy would not confirm the specifics of either injury, but both appeared to hurt their left knees. Published reports claimed both have torn ACLs. Tramon Williams is expected to replace Harris at cornerback while Brady Poppinga or Brad Jones will take over for Kampman.
Analysis: None of these defenders are worth owning, especially Harris and Kampman since their seasons are over. The Packers play at the Lions in Week 12.
News: The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Packers LB Aaron Kampman is out for the season with a torn ACL suffered in a Week 11 win over the 49ers. Kampman led Green Bay with four tackles and a sack before getting hurt.
Analysis: Kampman was dealing with a concussion before Green Bay's Week 11 win over the 49ers, but now he might have plenty of time to rest his head. Feel free to release Kampman in the deeper IDP leagues he had value in.
News: It was the same, frustrating drill for Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley every day last week: a member of the team's medical staff would fiddle with his knee a little bit, then shake his head in disapproval. He wasn't going to practice. It felt even worse, Finley said, during warmups for Sunday's critical game against Dallas. His team needed him, and he wasn't on the field. "I was pretty (upset)," Finley said Wednesday. "I wanted to grab one of the helmets and put it on and get out there and go to work." He'll likely get that chance this week -- as, it appears, will outside linebacker Aaron Kampman and right tackle Mark Tauscher. Already riding momentum after their biggest win of the season, the Packers suddenly are getting healthy. Finley, Kampman and Tauscher all participated in the portion of practice open to reporters Wednesday as the Packers began to prepare for Sunday's home game against San Francisco. All three key players missed practice last week and Sunday's 17-7 win over Dallas.
Analysis: Kampman sustained a concussion in the Packers' Nov. 8 loss at Tampa Bay. He missed practice last week and did not play Sunday. Kampman did not take reporters' questions Wednesday, but coach Mike McCarthy said he liked what he saw from Kampman in practice. "I feel good about where Aaron is medically, and he looked like he moved around fine today," McCarthy said. "I'll know more once we see the tape. But yeah, I thought he bounced back like you knew he would, and he looked like his normal self out there today." Kampman is one of the better defensive ends in the NFL and usually a viable Fantasy start when healthy. It seems as though Fantasy owners can start him again in Week 11.
News: The Packers' list of inactives for Week 10 against the Cowboys includes WR Jake Allen, WR Biren Ealy, RB Quinn Johnson, LB Brady Poppinga and LB Aaron Kampman.
Analysis: Kampman has some low-end appeal in IDP leagues, but none of the other players listed here ever does enough statistically to matter in Fantasy.
News: Short-handed at outside linebacker, the Packers are turning to an untested rookie for their game Sunday against the Cowboys. Coach Mike McCarthy said Friday that Brad Jones would make his first NFL start. Jones will start in place of Aaron Kampman, who will miss his first game because of injury since October 2003. Kampman is recovering from a concussion he sustained in the Packers' loss at Tampa Bay last Sunday.
Analysis: Kampman hasn't been a productive Fantasy LB to begin with. He's no better than a No. 3 option when healthy. Jones is only worth a flier in the deepest of seasonal leagues.
News: Green Bay Packers outside linebacker Aaron Kampman played most of Sunday's loss at Tampa Bay with a concussion before leaving the game in the fourth quarter. His availability for the Packers' upcoming game against Dallas is unclear. Kampman said Monday he took a hit to the left side of his head on the fourth play of game and still wasn't feeling quite right Monday. An eight-year veteran, Kampman says this isn't the first concussion of his career but he hasn't had one recently. Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers says he and other coaches didn't realize Kampman had been injured until late in the game. Capers says players must recognize when they're not feeling right and tell coaches.
Analysis: Kampman managed just two tackles in the game at Tampa Bay and has three sacks on the season with one forced fumble. He has low-end Fantasy appeal in IDP leagues and should be avoided for the Dallas game since he's likely to be out with the concussion.
News: Green Bay LB Aaron Kampman finished the Packers' Week 7 win at Cleveland with five tackles and a sack.
Analysis: Kampman now has three sacks on the season for the Packers and 29 tackles. Kampman is a solid No. 3 Fantasy LB for Week 8 against the Vikings.
News: Green Bay LB Aaron Kampman finished Week 3's win over the Rams with 3 tackles and a sack.
Analysis: Kampman, out of Iowa, has 16 tackles and a sack thus far this season. He also forced a fumble in Week 3's win. Kampman led the Packers defensively in Week 2 as well and is a solid No. 2 Fantasy LB for Week 4 at Minnesota.
News: The Chicago Tribune reported on Wednesday that Green Bay LB Aaron Kampman was able to practice on but had a club-like wrap around his right hand. Coach Mike McCarthy said the injury was just a bruise and Kampam did not think he'd need to wear the wrap during Week 3's game at St. Louis. Kampman was able to practice in full on Thursday and Friday as well and has been listed as probable for the game.
Analysis: It sounds like the Packers are just being extra cautious by making Kampman wrap up his hand during practice. Kampman led the Packers defensively in Week 2 and is a solid No. 2 Fantasy LB for Week 3's game against a poor St. Louis offense.
News: Packers LB Aaron Kampman had seven tackles Sunday against Cincinnati. He got help from LB A.J. Hawk (four tackles), LB Nick Barnett (three tackles), DL Cullen Jenkins (two tackles, one sack) and LB Brandon Chillar (two tackles).
Analysis: The Packers should do well in Week 3 at the Rams. Start all your regular Packers defenders in IDP leagues at St. Louis.
News: The Green Bay Packers break training camp Friday, but decisions on playing time at the linebacker spots have yet to be settled. Brandon Chillar, who has been filling in with the first-team defense while Nick Barnett recovers from a knee injury, has arguably been the team's best linebacker during camp, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. And Desmond Bishop is beginning to show that he's more than a special teams ace. With room for four starting linebackers in the Packers' new 3-4 scheme, as many as eight players are jockeying for top spots. About the only linebacker whose starting job appears to be safe is Aaron Kampman, a two-time Pro Bowl defensive end who was moved to left-side outside linebacker in the offseason. The other outside linebacker spot is up for grabs while Chillar and Bishop are pushing for the inside spots held by Barnett and A.J. Hawk.
Analysis: The Packers might be in the market for a trade in the next couple of weeks. Of these players, Kampman is a decent No. 2 Fantasy option since he'll get a lot of sacks but not a lot of tackles as a pass-rushing linebacker (not a defensive end). Hawk's stats should improve, especially if Barnett doesn't play right away. Chillar and Bishop are no better than late-round sleepers in IDP leagues.
News: Packers LB Aaron Kampman, converting to linebacker from end and forced to play more pass coverage, watched Cleveland QB Brady Quinn zip a pass to WR Mike Furrey between him and linebacker Brady Poppinga on Cleveland's opening drive Saturday in the preseason opener. But he slammed Quinn to the ground moments later when no one picked up his rush from the right side. "It's going to be a work in progress, but the more reps we get the better we'll be at," Kampman said. "It was a good starting point." Kampman got his hands on Derek Anderson, too, breaking through and grabbing enough of Anderson's throwing arm on his first attempt to disrupt the play. Anderson's second pass on his next drive was lobbed up for grabs after getting more pressure by Desmond Bishop and Tramon Williams intercepted it. "We want to come out and get turnovers," linebacker A.J. Hawk said. "We talk about it all of the time. When you win the turnover margin, you usually win the game."
Analysis: The Packers did a good job with their debut of the new 3-4 scheme, especially Kampman making the adjustment. The Packers shut out the Browns 17-0 and this could be a sign of things to come. Although Cleveland doesn't have the best offense, the Packers could be considered a sleeper DST this season worth a late-round pick.
News: The Green Bay Press-Gazette reports that Packers' Aaron Kampman may be warming up to the idea of playing LB now after being a DL. "I haven't sensed (discomfort with the move) at all since I've been here," said Dom Capers, the new defensive coordinator who will orchestrate the change to the 3-4 from the 4-3 scheme, which is why Kampman is switching spots. "I spoke with him probably three or four days after I was here. He was wanting to know what all he had to do and what weight (he should be), just like you'd anticipate out of Aaron. I said, 'You don't have to lose a pound, you just get yourself in good shape where you can move around.'"
Analysis: Moving to outside linebacker, his tackle totals should improve a little bit but his sack totals will take a dive (he had 37 over his last three seasons). You can now consider Kampman a No. 3 Fantasy LB worth a late-round pick in drafts this summer.
News:Aaron Kampman's silence might indicate some level of discomfort with the team's decision to switch defensive schemes, a move that will turn one of the league's best pass rushing defensive ends into an outside linebacker in the team's new base 3-4 alignment. Kampman was present for Thursday's voluntary Organized Team Activity but did not appear in the locker room while it was open to the media. A team spokesman said Kampman originally planned to address reporters Thursday but changed his mind despite being encouraged to speak by the team's public relations staff. Packers coach Mike McCarthy seemed to acknowledge Thursday that Kampman has some reservations. "I think this defense is going to help Aaron Kampman," McCarthy said. "I think there is always a hesitancy when you are asked to do something different. Aaron was very comfortable in the old scheme, but I think this is going to create more opportunities for him."
Analysis: Kampman will have to learn how to rush the passer from a standing position - as opposed to the three-point stance at defensive end, with his hand on the ground. He'll sometimes drop into pass coverage, a staple of the 3-4 scheme intended to confuse offenses. Moving to outside linebacker, his tackle totals should improve a little bit but his sack totals will take a dive (he had 37 over his last three seasons). You can now consider Kampman a No. 3 Fantasy LB worth a late-round pick in drafts this summer.
News: In news that will make the Fantasy world cringe, Packers defender Aaron Kampman will move from defensive end in the club's 4-3 scheme last year to outside linebacker in their new 3-4 scheme this year. He'll be coached by Kevin Greene. "Aaron Kampman knows how to rush the passer and the first responsibility for the outside linebacker position in the base personnel is to rush the passer," head coach Mike McCarthy said. "Aaron Kampman is going to be an excellent fit for what we're going to try to do as we move forward with this new scheme."
Analysis: He might be a solid fit, but he's not going to be a fantastic Fantasy DL anymore. Moving to outside linebacker, his tackle totals should improve a little bit but his sack totals will take a dive (he had 37 over his last three seasons). You can now consider Kampman a No. 3 Fantasy LB worth a late-round pick in drafts this summer.
News: While the rest of the NFL questions the Packers' decision to switch to the 3-4 defense, Aaron Kampman's role in the defense is a big question mark. Will he bulk up to play defensive end? Or will he lose weight and become an outside linebacker and pass rusher? Either way, Fantasy owners have to keep tabs, and Kampman is concerned about the move as well. When asked by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel last year about making a similar move, he said that it would be "a pretty tough switch."
Analysis: Kampman might lose his DL eligibility and be a Fantasy LB, making him far less attractive since he would likely see fewer sacks and tackles. Moreover, Kampman is entering a contract year and might even be a dark horse candidate to be traded this offseason to a team that could use him as a 4-3 style pass rusher. We'll keep you posted on Kampman's status throughout the offseason, but be ready to downgrade him before your draft this summer.
