News: The Chargers have released tight end Randy McMichael, according to ESPN.
Analysis: McMichael hasn't been a legitimate factor for Fantasy owners for much of the last few years. He shouldn't be on Fantasy teams.
News: The Union-Tribune San Diego reports that Chargers tight end Randy McMichael could be a candidate for a pay cut. McMichael, who turns 34 in June, is due $1.25 million in base salary with a $250,000 roster bonus.
Analysis: Even if McMichael stays with the Chargers he has minimal Fantasy value as a reserve option behind Antonio Gates. Ignore him in all leagues on Draft Day.
News: Chargers tight end Randy McMichael was not much of a factor in Week 2 against the Titans. McMicahel hauled in three receptions for 29 yards in the 38-10 win and had a long of 13 yards. He was targeted four times and averaged 9.7 yards per reception.
Analysis: McMichael earned the start with Antonio Gates being ruled inactive but as expected wasn't much of a factor. The 11-year-old veteran is mostly used as an extra blocker in short-yardage situations and should continue to be ignored in all the majority of formats moving forward.
News: With Antonio Gates sidelined, Chargers tight end Randy McMichael will start in his place in Week 2 against the Titans. McMichael was held without a catch in San Diego's Week 1 win over the Raiders.
Analysis: McMichael will get the start Sunday as Gates was a surprise inactive for the contest. While he likely will see a few targets from Philip Rivers, only owners in desperation mode should consider taking a flier on him.
News: Tight end Dante Rosario worked in goal-line situations and leaped between defenders for at least one touchdown on Thursday OTA practices. Rosario has performed well throughout OTAs and has had more reps than incumbent backup TE Randy McMichael. The Chargers have seven TEs on their roster. One of the more interesting battles for a roster spot in training camp may be between Rosario and McMichael.
Analysis: Guess what? Not only are these guys behind a stud in Antonio Gates, but the Chargers drafted a prospect named Ladarius Green who could also get some time before either of these guys. Neither McMichael nor Rosario should be considered for Fantasy.
News: Free agent tight end Randy McMichael tweeted he will return to San Diego next season. A team source confirmed McMichael has agreed to a two-year contract. McMichael will likely continue to be the second-string TE behind Antonio Gates. Third-string TE Kory Sperry re-signed earlier in the week.
Analysis: McMichael might only be worth considering if the Chargers are without Gates for a considerable period of time. Last year he was a nightmare when Gates was out, so Fantasy owners might not even trust him if he gets that chance. No one should draft him.
News: San Diego TE Randy McMichael caught the only pass thrown his way on Sunday against Buffalo. That lone grab was good for 17 yards though and set up a touchdown for his team. The Chargers would win the game, 37-10.
Analysis: McMichael is the backup to Antonio Gates, so unless Gates is hurt there is no reason to be starting the veteran in any Fantasy league. Continue to ignore him heading into Week 15 versus the Ravens.
News: Chargers TE Randy McMichael caught two passes for 13 yards in Week 13 against the Jaguars. He was targeted three times by QB Philip Rivers in the 38-14 win.
Analysis: McMichael is usually good for a couple of catches on a weekly basis but he remains the clear No. 2 option to Antonio Gates in San Diego. As long as Gates is healthy, continue to ignore McMichael in the majority of Fantasy leagues.
News: San Diego TE Randy McMichael caught both passes thrown his way in Week 12 against Denver. He totaled 24 yards receiving, one less than Vincent Jackson. The Chargers would end up losing the game, 16-13, in overtime.
Analysis: McMichael is merely the backup tight end for the Chargers. His Fantasy value will go up if Antonio Gates is unable to go because of his foot issue. In the meantime, Fantasy owners shouldn't put too much stock in the big man. In Week 13 the Chargers face the Jaguars on Monday night. Jacksonville has allowed 12 passing touchdowns this season and is allowing an average of 189 passing yards per contest.
News: Chargers TE Randy McMichael will be looking to play a larger role on offense in Week 11 against the Bears. McMichael, who has hauled in 21receptions for 190 yards through nine games, failed to register a catch for the first time all season in last week's loss to the Raiders. Chicago enters Sunday's contest ranked 29th in pass defense, allowing 270 yards per game. The Bears have surrendered 12 touchdowns through the air and are allowing an average of 11.7 Fantasy points to opposing TEs on the season.
Analysis: McMichael has been seeing a ton of snaps of late, but unfortunately he is being used mostly as a pass blocker. Part of that is because Antonio Gates is finally healthy but the other reason is because of how banged up the Chargers' offensive line is. McMicahel is often asked to block rather than run routes, which is why is only has three receptions for 14 yards over his last three games. Fantasy owners should continue and ignore the 32-year-old heading into Week 11.
News: Chargers TE Randy McMichael caught two passes for 11 yards in Week 8 against the Chiefs. He was targeted three times by QB Philip Rivers in the 23-20 loss.
Analysis: McMichael continues to see a few passes thrown his way on a weekly basis but as long as Antonio Gates is healthy, he will continue to see a lesser role. While he remains a viable handcuff option to Gates, continue to ignore McMichael in all but the deepest of Fantasy leagues heading into Week 9 against the Packers.
News: San Diego TE Randy McMichael had three receptions for 45 yards during the Chargers' 27-20 loss to the Jets in Week 7 on Sunday. McMichael hauled in a 30-yard pass in the second half to represent the longest catch by the Chargers against the vaunted New York secondary.
Analysis: As expected, McMichael lost sufficient targets with the return of TE Antonio Gates from a foot injury. McMichael, who started in his place while he was inactive for the team's past three games, finished with four fewer looks from QB Philip Rivers. In addition, Gates tallied the team's lone receiving touchdown as he quickly rediscovered his connection with Rivers. Gates still appeared to be limited by the injury so Fantasy owners should keep an eye on his status going forward. If Gates is starting, McMichael has marginal Fantasy appeal.
News: With starting TE Antonio Gates expected to return to the lineup for Week 7 against the Jets, San Diego TE Randy McMichael will likely take a hit in playing time. McMichael, in his second season with the Chargers, has started the past three games for the team while Gates has been sidelined with a troublesome foot injury. He recorded 11 catches for 105 yards in that span, but was unable to reach the end zone.
Analysis: McMichael topped 50 receiving yards only once while filling in for Gates and was never considered a viable Fantasy replacement. He will now likely return to his minor role as Gates' backup, though could see some playing time as Gates is not expected to play the entire game. When Gates was in the lineup, McMichael had four receptions in two games. Consider him a marginal Fantasy option as long as Gates is active.
News: Chargers TE Randy McMichael got his 400th career reception in the third quarter of Sunday's game against the Broncos. He was targeted six times, catching four passes for 29 yards. San Diego would win the game, 29-24, over Denver in Week 5.
Analysis: McMichael continues to fill in for the injured Antonio Gates. With a bye week coming up, Gates may be able to take the field in Week 7. If that happens, McMichael won't be worth much. The Chargers face the Jets in Week 7 which is a tough team to pass against. Fantasy owners should keep tabs on the health of Gates as it will directly affect the value of McMichael. If he keeps filling in for Gates, McMichael is a No. 2 TE option.
News: With Antonio Gates still dealing with a foot injury, the Chargers will continue to go with veteran TE Randy McMichael. Heading into Week 5 the Chargers face the Broncos, a team that has given up one touchdown to a tight end through four weeks. In his one game against Denver in 2010, McMichael had two catches for 22 yards.
Analysis: McMichael has 11 catches for 102 yards in his four games this season, but has yet to find the end zone. He has gotten used to filling in for Gates though. In seven games Gates has missed since 2010, McMichael has an 85-percent catch rate (17 receptions for 190 receiving yards on 20 targets). Still, Fantasy owners shouldn't bank on McMichael too heavily this week. Consider him a low-end No. 2 TE option for Week 5.
News: Chargers TE Randy McMichael was relatively quiet in Week 4 against the Dolphins. McMichael, who was starting in place of Antonio Gates, finished with three receptions for 25 yards in the 26-16 victory. He did briefly leave with a hand injury but was able to return and finish out the game. McMichael averaged 8.3 yards per reception and had a long of 17 yards in the contest.
Analysis: McMichael got the start for Gates on Sunday, but wasn't much of a factor in the contest. He will immediately be moved right back to the bench once Gates is healthy enough to play, so Fantasy owners should continue and monitor his status moving forward. The Chargers take on the Broncos in Week 5, who allowed over 500 yards of total offense last Sunday to the Packers. If McMicael does earn another start against Denver, he could be considered a sleeper option.
News: With Antonio Gates officially ruled inactive, Chargers TE Randy McMichael will start in his place in Week 4 against the Dolphins. In seven games Gates has missed since 2010, McMichael has an 85-percent catch rate (17 receptions for 190 receiving yards on 20 targets). The Dolphins enter Sunday's contest ranked 30th against the pass, allowing 311 yards per contest.
Analysis: McMichael totaled four catches for 51 yards against the Chiefs. The Dolphins are the worst team in the NFL guarding TEs, allowing them to average a league-high 16 Fantasy points per game. If you are looking for a sleeper start at the TE position in Week 4, then you might consider McMichael.
News: Even with TE Antonio Gates doubtful with a foot injury, the Chargers remain very confident in backup TE Randy McMichael. In seven games Gates has missed since 2010, McMichael has an 85-percent catch rate (17 receptions for 190 receiving yards on 20 targets). Hes a big-time tight end in this league. He was everywhere hes been, quarterback Philip Rivers said. (Hell ask), What do you need me to do this week? And hes ready to do it. If its to be the feature tight end and catch balls, hes ready to do that. If its not catching a pass and being the backside guy on some of the blocking and play-action stuff, he does that as good as anybody. Even coach Norv Turner is a big fan. I cant say enough about (McMichael) and what he brings to us because he does so much in our pass protection. And then he catches four passes and hes big on third down," Turner added.
Analysis: Gates is unlikely for Week 4 against Miami, so McMichael will have to step up again Sunday. Last week, McMichael totaled four catches for 51 yards against the Chiefs. The Dolphins are the worst team in the NFL guarding TEs, allowing them to average a league-high 16 Fantasy points per game. If you are looking for a sleeper start at the TE position in Week 4, then you might consider McMichael.
News: Even with TE Antonio Gates questionable again with a foot injury, the Chargers remain very confident in backup TE Randy McMichael.
Analysis: Gates' status remains in question for Week 4 against Miami, so McMichael might have to step up again Sunday. Last week, McMichael totaled four catches for 51 yards against the Chiefs. The Dolphins are the worst team in the NFL guarding TEs, allowing them to average a league-high 16 Fantasy points per game. If you are looking for a sleeper start at the TE position in Week 4, then you might consider McMichael if Gates remains sidelined.
News: While Chargers TE Randy McMichael didn't put up huge numbers on Sunday against the Chiefs, he did fill in nicely for the injured Antonio Gates. McMichael was targeted five times, catching four passes for 51 yards. San Diego would hold on for the 20-17 win over Kansas City.
Analysis: McMichael will likely go back to a minor contributor once Gates is healthy. But if this foot issue continues to linger for Gates, McMichael would make a nice addition down the road. For now, if he stays in the lineup, McMichael should be viewed as a No. 2 TE option. The Chargers host the Dolphins in Week 4, a team that struggles to stop the pass.
News: Chargers TE Antonio Gates (foot) was listed among the team's inactives for Week 3 against Kansas City. ESPN has reported that he is dealing with a tear to his plantar fascia in his foot. In his absence, Randy McMichael will take over as the team's primary tight end.
Analysis: McMichael could make for a decent last-minute addition as an emergency replacement option. He could be in line for a Fantasy boost, not only in Week 3, but also down the road if this injury lingers. We'll have more on the extent of Gates' injury as it becomes available. In the meantime, McMichael rises to the ranks of decent No. 2 Fantasy TEs.
News: ESPN reports that Chargers TE Antonio Gates is dealing with a tear in his foot, making him unlikely to play in Week 3 against Kansas City. The tear is said to be to his plantar fascia. Randy McMichael would replace him at tight end.
Analysis: McMichael could make for a decent last-minute addition as an emergency replacement option. However, the lineup change will not become official until around 90 minutes prior to the 4 p.m. ET kickoff time. Add McMichael, where possible, if you own Gates as an insurance policy. Once the inactives are announced, we'll have them for you.
News: Chargers TE Antonio Gates attempted to practice on Friday, but returned to the locker room shortly into group drills. He's questionable. There's concern that he might be able to play against the Chiefs in Week 3. That would open the door for Randy McMichael to get his reps and play quite a bit against a defense missing its best player (safety Eric Berry). The Chiefs have allowed three touchdowns to tight ends through two weeks.
Analysis: Fantasy owners should keep an eye on Gates' status and if he's active, consider him a No. 1 Fantasy TE. If not, Randy McMichael could be a good Fantasy option. We'll be the first to know if he's in or out around 2:30 p.m. ET here on CBSSports.com.
News: Multiple sources reports the Chargers have agreed to a one-year contract with TE Randy McMichael, who totaled 20 catches for 221 yards and two touchdowns in 16 games for San Diego in 2010. Randy is an integral part of our team, Chargers GM A.J. Smith told the team's official website. Hes a professional, and he proved last year that hes ready to perform when called upon.
Analysis: McMichael was used more than expected last season due to the rash of injuries Antonio Gates suffered. Gates is expected to be ready for the 2011 season, but McMichael is added depth in case he is needed again. But McMichael can be left on waivers in most Fantasy formats until he is needed by San Diego.
News: With San Diego TE Antonio Gates (foot) out for the remainder of the season, TE Randy McMichael will likely fill his spot in the starting lineup for the Chargers' game against Denver in Week 17. McMichael has taken his spot in five games this season, including the last three weeks. In that three-game span, McMichael has hauled in nine passes for 94 yards but managed just 13 yards against Cincinnati in Week 16.
Analysis: McMichael has been a lackluster replacement for Gates and has not reached the end zone in his last six games. McMichael has now totaled 18 receptions for 199 yards this season but has tallied more than two catches in a game just once (five, Week 15). Still, the Broncos have struggled against opposing tight ends, surrendering the third-most Fantasy points per game (9.3) this season. If you were a Fantasy owner holding out for Gates' return, find other options or grab McMichael as a possible No. 2 TE in Week 17.
News: Chargers TE Randy McMichael got the start again for the injured Antonio Gates in Week 16 against the Bengals. He was targeted three times, catching two passes for 13 yards. San Diego would lose the game, 34-20, eliminating them from the playoffs.
Analysis: McMichael has filled in nicely for Gates, but he is definitely not as valuable as Gates. But with the Chargers out of the playoffs, McMichael may get another start so Gates can continue to rest his nagging injury. San Diego plays Denver in Week 17 and neither team has much to play for. Fantasy owners in championship games should view McMichael as a No. 2 TE option.
News: With Antonio Gates (foot) again inactive, San Diego TE Randy McMichael started the Week 15 game against the 49ers. The veteran held his own in the middle of the Chargers offense, and hauled in five passes from QB Philip Rivers for 55 yards, including a one-handed Gates-like grab to move the chains. River targeted him five times on the night, so the chemistry is growing between the two. After the game, Rivers called McMichael a starting TE in the NFL during an interview on the NFL Network.
Analysis: McMichael has been a solid insurance policy for Gates, and Thursday provided a season-high in receptions and yards for the 9-year veteran. With Gates in and out of the lineup, McMichael is establishing a decent rapport with Rivers. He can be viewed as a No. 2 Fantasy option when the Pro Bowl TE is out of the lineup. In Week 16, the Chargers take on the Bengals, a team that has allowed just two TEs to reach the end zone this season.
News: San Diego TE Randy McMichael will replace Antonio Gates (foot) in the starting lineup for the Chargers' Week 15 game against San Francisco. Gates, who was listed as doubtful on the injury report, will miss Thursday's game, according to the NFL Network. This will be McMichael's second start in a row for the injured Gates.
Analysis: McMichael recorded two receptions for 26 yards in Week 14 as a replacement for Gates but was only targeted twice by Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers. With Malcom Floyd also missing Thursday's game, McMichael could be targeted more against the NFL's 20th-ranked pass defense (227.3 yards per game). Keep your expectations of McMichael to a minimum since he has just two touchdowns this season. Consider McMichael a No. 3 Fantasy TE in Week 15 as the 49ers are allowing a league-low 4.7 Fantasy points to tight ends this season.
News: San Diego TE Randy McMichael could make his second consecutive start if starter Antonio Gates is unable to play in the Chargers' Week 15 game against San Francisco on Thursday. Gates, who is listed as doubtful on the injury report and will likely be a game-time decision, could sit out for the fourth time in six games due to a painful tear in the plantar fascia in his right foot. Gates has not been able to practice, San Diego coach Norv Turner said Wednesday. I always hold out hope for Antonio, but you have to be realistic at some point. McMichael recorded two receptions for 26 yards in Week 14 as a last-minute substitution for Gates but was only targeted twice by Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers.
Analysis: While McMichael is a nice backup plan for the Chargers, he isn't necessarily one for Fantasy owners. In the three games he has started with Gates out, McMichael has totaled four receptions for 49 yards on five targets and two touchdowns, including one outing without a catch. McMichael's two touchdowns in Week 9 -- the first two-score game of his career -- came against Houston's poor pass defense and while San Diego was missing receivers Malcom Floyd and Vincent Jackson in addition to Gates. The 49ers are allowing an NFL-low 4.7 Fantasy points per game to tight ends and have surrendered just three touchdowns to the position this season. Starting McMichael could be a risky Fantasy play especially with the other scoring options -- including a healthy Floyd and Jackson -- the Chargers possess. If Gates can't play, consider McMichael a No. 3 Fantasy TE in Week 15. If he can play, McMichael obviously isn't worth a spot in your lineup.
News: San Diego TE Randy McMichael replaced the injured Antonio Gates (foot) in Week 14 and finished with two receptions for 26 yards in the Chargers' rout of Kansas City on Sunday. McMichael was targeted twice by San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers and had a long catch of 15 yards.
Analysis: McMichael, a last-minute substitution for the inactive Gates, now has a catch in his last three games. He is a quality backup for the Chargers but not for Fantasy owners on a team that has too many scoring options. Leave him on your waiver wire for Week 15 unless Gates is forced to miss more time.
News: Chargers TE Randy McMichael did not see many passes thrown his way in Week 13 against the Raiders. He was targeted for just one pass from QB Philip Rivers, making the reception for 9 yards in the 28-13 loss.
Analysis: McMichael continues to see limited action while playing behind All-Pro TE Antonio Gates and does not pose much Fantasy value as long as he is a backup. While Gates has been banged up of late, he rarely misses a game. Continue to view McMichael as nothing more than a handcuff option in the deepest of Fantasy formats heading into Week 14 against the Chiefs.
News: San Diego TE Randy McMichael, playing the No. 2 TE role, caught just one pass in the Week 12 win over the Colts. The 12 yard reception was also the only time QB Philip Rivers targeted him on the night. He was used less than the past few weeks because Antonio Gates (toe) was active.
Analysis: McMichael is not worth using in the majority of leagues with Gates in the lineup. Keep him stashed away in Fantasy play for now because Gates is as injury prone as they come in the NFL, although he doesn't miss many games. McMichael is nothing more than his handcuff heading into the Week 13 game against the Raiders.
News: San Diego TE Randy McMichael (hamstring) will play in the Week 12 game against the Colts. However, he will no longer be the starting TE as Antonio Gates is also active for Sunday night after missing the last two games.
Analysis: McMichael is not worth using in the majority of league with Gates in the lineup for SNF. Keep him stashed away in Fantasy play for now because Gates is as injury prone as they come in the NFL, although he doesn't miss many games. McMichael is nothing more than his handcuff.
News: San Diego TE Randy McMichael (hamstring) didn't practice until Friday, but he is listed as probable for the Week 12 game against the Colts. Starting TE Antonio Gates (foot) was unable to practice Friday, he is listed as questionable.
Analysis: McMichael is not worth using in the majority of leagues, especially if Gates returns against the Colts. Keep an eye on McMichael, but he would be considered a No. 2 Fantasy TE against the Colts if Gates is out -- check back about 90 minues before the Sunday night kickoff when we get the official inactives. The Colts are typically stingy against TEs, but they have given up a score to one in each of the last two weeks.
News: San Diego TE Randy McMichael (hamstring) did not practice again Thursday after sitting out Wednesday. Antonio Gates (foot) was able to practice Thursday on a limited basis. McMichael will likely be listed as questionable for Week 12 at Indianapolis.
Analysis: McMichael is not worth using in the majority of leagues, especially if Gates returns against the Colts. Keep an eye on McMichael, but he would be considered a No. 2 Fantasy TE against the Colts if Gates is out.
News: Chargers TE Randy McMichael, who missed a few plays of Mondays game with a sore hamstring, was unable to practice on Wednesday. On Tuesday, he said he should be fine to play on Sunday against the Colts in a Week 12 matchup. Hes sore, coach Norv Turner said I dont think his injury should keep him from playing on Sunday.
Analysis: McMichael was a massive disappointment in place of Antonio Gates on Monday night as he failed to get a single catch and dropped a touchdown. If Gates remains out in Week 12 against the Colts, McMichael might be a nice sleeper option once again in deeper formats, but Indy has been very tough against opposing TEs this season.
News: Chargers TE Randy McMichael, who missed a few plays of Mondays game with a sore hamstring, should be fine to play this week. Hes sore, coach Norv Turner said I dont think his injury should keep him from playing on Sunday.
Analysis: McMichael was a massive disappointment in place of Antonio Gates on Monday night as he failed to get a single catch and dropped a touchdown. If Gates remains out in Week 12 against the Colts, McMichael might be a nice sleeper option once again in deeper formats, but Indy has been very tough against the run this season.
News: Chargers TE Randy McMichael had an opportunity to produce against the Broncos in Week 11 with Antonio Gates (toe, foot) inactive, but he was unable to record a single catch in the 35-14 win. He saw one pass thrown his way by QB Philip Rivers but MicMichael dropped what would have been a touchdown on his lone target. McMichael and Kory Sperry, who had two catches for 21 yards in the victory, were the only tight ends active for San Diego on Monday night.
Analysis: McMichael, who had two touchdowns against the Texans in the team's last game, could not get much of anything going on Monday night and disappointed a lot of Fantasy owners with his poor performance. He missed a couple of plays due to an injury but he was on the field for most of the game. Perhaps his dropped pass caused Rivers not to look his way again but either way it supplied a big zero on the scoreboard. Fantasy owners should monitor the health of Gates going forward to see who will be starting next week against Indianapolis. If McMichael gets the start again, he will be worth using as a low-end Fantasy TE for Week 12 against the Colts.
News: Chargers TE Randy McMichael got the start in Week 11 against the Broncos after Antonio Gates (toe, foot) was listed as inactive. McMichael, who had two touchdowns against the Texans in the team's last game, was the only active tight end on Monday night for San Diego.
Analysis: Gates tried to tough it out and play in Week 11 but he was unable to go in the end, which is music to the ears of McMichael owners. McMichael had a highly-productive game his last time out and could be in for more of the same against the Broncos 19th ranked pass defense. Fantasy owners should get the 31-year-old active for Monday's matchup.
News: The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Chargers TE Antonio Gates, who is listed as questionable with a foot injury for Monday night's game against Denver, could try to play against the Broncos. The paper reports that "indications are that he will try to play." Gates did not practice all week leading up to the Week 11 game. The Chargers could need Gates with third-string TE Kris Wilson dealing with a bad back. The Chargers signed TE Kory Sperry off the practice squad Monday since Wilson was also limited in practice Thursday and Friday and did not practice Saturday. He is also listed as questionable. If Gates is out then Randy McMichael would start against the Broncos.
Analysis: We're surprised but encouraged by the news that Gates could play. He missed the previous game in Week 9 against Houston with the foot injury and has struggled to practice during the bye in Week 10 and then all week leading up to the game. You're going to have to monitor CBSSports.com leading up to the game when the inactives are released to determine who is starting between Gates or McMichael. If Gates is starting then we would recommend using him in all leagues because even at less than 100 percent he should still be able to make a positive impact. If Gates is out then McMichael would be a quality replacement since he had two touchdowns against the Texans.
News: Chargers TE Randy McMichael had his best performance of the year his last time out and could be in for similar success in Week 11 against the Broncos. With Antonio Gates still dealing with a torn plantar fascia in his right foot, McMichael could get the start in Monday night's matchup. Denver enters the contest ranked 19th in the league against the pass, allowing just under 230 yards per contest, and have given up an average of eight Fantasy points to opposing tight ends.
Analysis: McMichael had two catches for 23 yards and two touchdowns in Week 9 with Gates out and should see an improved role on Monday if Gates is unable to go again. While he has just 84 yards on seven receptions this season, McMichael poses a serious red-zone threat for QB Philip Rivers. Fantasy owners should continue to monitor the health status of Gates heading into Week 11 but grab McMichael off waivers if possible. He has already seen his ownership in CBSSports.com leagues jump from three to 13 percent and will be worth using as a No. 1 Fantasy TE against the Broncos.
News: Playing in place of the injured Antonio Gates (foot) in Week 9 at Houston, Chargers TE Randy McMichael was a star. McMichael had two catches for 23 yards, but both catches went for touchdowns. It was his only two targets of the game. He came into the game with five catches for 61 yards on the season.
Analysis: The Chargers have a bye in Week 10 before returning to play Denver in Week 11. We expect Gates to be back by then, but keep an eye on his status leading up to the game with the Broncos. If Gates remains out then consider adding McMichael, who is only owned in 2 percent of leagues on CBSSports.com. But if Gates returns as expected then ignore McMichael in the majority of leagues.
News: Chargers TE Randy McMichael did not do much in Week 7 against the Patriots. He was targeted for just two passes by QB Philip Rivers, catching one for 1 yard in the 23-20 loss. Starting TE Antonio Gates (toe) was listed as questionable heading into Sunday's game, but was active and played in the defeat.
Analysis: McMichael could have started in Week 7 with Gates banged up, but he resumed his regular role as Gates played and caught four passes for 50 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. He will only have value if his role improves, but that is not likely with a stud Fantasy TE in front of him on the depth chart. Continue to ignore McMichael in all leagues heading into Week 8 against the Titans.
News: Chargers TE Antonio Gates is listed as questionable for Week 7 against the Patriots because of a toe injury, meaning TE Randy McMichael might be on call to start if Gates can't dress Sunday. The Patriots have allowed TEs to average 8.6 Fantasy points per week, which is sixth highest in the NFL.
Analysis: McMichael hasn't managed more than two catches in a game this season and has been shut out three times. It's not a big surprise since Gates is one of the leading tight ends in the NFL and McMichael doesn't get many targets in the passing game. McMichael isn't at the level he used to be and probably won't threaten to post Gates-like numbers, if he is called on in Week 7. Even with the favorable matchup, McMichael is a Hail Mary Fantasy option.
News: Veteran TE Randy McMichael was thrown to once on Sunday, but made it count. His 28-yard reception in the fourth quarter put the Chargers in a position to tie the game. San Diego would end up turning the ball over, ending the game and dropping them to 1-2 on the season.
Analysis: McMichael is the backup tight end behind Antonio Gates and won't see many passes, even in the high-powered San Diego offense. He has three catches for 56 yards this year. He can be ignored in all Fantasy leagues as he doesn't do enough to benefit your team.
News: Chargers TE Randy McMichael had just two receptions for 28 yards in Week 1 against the Chiefs, but his play was lauded by coach Norv Turner. He is a good player that gives us another dimension, Turner said. He does a good job in protection. I thought Randy added something in what we are trying to do." McMichael and the Chargers now prepare to face the Jaguars in Week 2. McMichael faced Jacksonville last season with St. Louis, totaling three catches for 32 yards. He has seven catches for 73 yards and no touchdowns in three career games against the Jaguars.
Analysis: McMichael is an outstanding veteran presence for the Chargers and clearly is a good backup to Antonio Gates. But make no mistake about it -- Gates is still the Chargers' top receiving tight end and one of QB Philip Rivers' favorite targets. McMichael might get a catch or two per week, but he likely won't be of much help to your Fantasy team. Look to better alternatives for Week 2.
News: Chargers TE Randy McMichael had two catches for 28 yards in Week 1 against the Chiefs. McMichael was targeted two times by Philip Rivers and averaged 14 yards per reception.
Analysis: McMichael was signed in the offseason by San Diego to provide backup to Antonio Gates. We figure to see him in two-tight end sets, but unless Gates gets injured, McMichael might only get a token catch or two every week. It's safe to ignore him in Fantasy on Draft Day.
News: TE Randy McMichael made his Chargers' debut during Saturday's preseason game against the Bears. He didn't start and didn't make his first catch until the third quarter. McMichael did finish second on the team with 33 yards on two catches. He was targeted three times in the game.
News: The Chargers bolstered an already-talented group of tight ends Thursday by signing free agent Randy McMichael to a one-year contract. "Randy has been a targeted player for us for some time now," GM A.J. Smith said. "With the departure of Brandon (Manumaleuna) to the Bears, we wanted to sign another veteran. We were hoping that would be Randy. We're happy it all worked out. We just thought it made good football sense to add a player like Randy. He brings veteran experience and added leadership to our team." The nine-year veteran started all but one of the 116 games he played for the Dolphins and Rams since he entered the league in 2002. The 6-foot-3, 246 pound McMichael played under Norv Turner when the Chargers' head coach was the offensive coordinator in Miami in 2002-03. "We're excited to add Randy to the team," Turner said. "He brings experience and added depth to the tight end position." McMichael caught at least 60 passes in three consecutive seasons with the Dolphins in 2004-06, amassing 2,013 yards and 12 touchdowns in that span. He joins a group that already includes the NFL's top pass-catching tight end, Antonio Gates, as well as returning veteran Kris Wilson, seventh-round draft pick Dedrick Epps and undrafted rookie Richie Brockel.
Analysis: McMichael played in all 16 games last season, catching 34 passes for 332 yards after a broken leg limited him to four games in 2008. He will likely be the No. 2 tight end behind Gates, but he gives the Chargers some insurance if Gates' foot injury becomes serious. Gates was diagnosed with a minor case of plantar fasciitis in June. As long as Gates is healthy, McMichael has minimal Fantasy value. Ignore him in all leagues on Draft Day.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael made two receptions on Sunday in a Week 16 loss at Arizona. He gained merely 12 yards on the two catches.
Analysis: McMichael is the Rams starting TE but he is not the pass-catching threat he once was. He is at best a last resort for Week 17 in the teams finale against San Francisco.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael caught one pass for 20 yards against the Texans in Week 15. He has no more than four catches in a game this season, and those came way back in Week 1.
Analysis: McMichael has lost all his Fantasy relevance playing for the Rams. He plays for one of the worst offenses in football and isn't a consistent target in the passing game. Leave him on waivers for Week 16 at Arizona.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael scored not just his first touchdown of the season, but his first since 2007 at Tennessee in Week 14, catching an 11-yard pass from QB Keith Null in the fourth quarter. He finished with two catches for 15 yards.
Analysis: McMichael has no more than three catches in any game since Week 1 and still has less than 300 yards receiving this season. Clearly, he's not worth using in Fantasy when the Rams host the Texans in Week 15.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael had three catches for 18 yards in Week 13 at Chicago. He was targeted five times in the game.
Analysis: McMichael hasn't had even 20 yards in a game in a month. He does not get enough looks to be considered viable in Fantasy leagues. Leave him reserved in all leagues.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael made a 12-yard catch in a Week 12 loss to Seattle.
Analysis: McMichael starts for the Rams, but the Rams have a pitiful offense, making him nothing more than an afterthought for Fantasy purposes. Leave him for deeper leagues when the Rams visit Chicago in Week 13.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael caught two passes for 17 yards Week 11 against the Cardinals. He has exactly two catches in each of his last four games and seven of 10 this season.
Analysis: McMichael starts for the Rams, but the Rams have a pitiful offense, making him nothing more than an afterthought for Fantasy purposes. Leave him for deeper leagues when the Rams host the Seahawks in Week 12.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael caught two passes for 30 yards in Week 10 against New Orleans. He was targeted five times in the game.
Analysis: McMichael has had more than two catches just three times this season and he has not had more than four catches in a game. He has yet to reach 50 yards in a game and has not scored a touchdown. He remains just a last-resort option for Week 11 vs. Arizona.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael has sore ribs, but X-ray tests came back clean Monday. The Rams have their bye this week, so McMichael is expected to be ready for the next game in Week 10 vs. New Orleans.
Analysis: McMichael had two catches in Week 8 against the Lions for 16 yards. Keep an eye on his progress during the bye week and hope he's ready for the Saints game. When healthy, McMichael is a No. 2 Fantasy TE.
News: St. Louis TE Randy McMichael came up with two catches in the team's Week 8 win over the Lions. He gained a total of 16 yards in the game with a long gain of 9 yards. McMichael also suffered a bruised rib in the game.
Analysis: McMichael doesn't see a whole ton of action in the Rams offense and has very minimal Fantasy value most weeks. The Rams are on a bye in Week 9 then take on the Saints Week 10. Hopefully McMichael's injury will be healed by then.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael caught two passes for 9 yards in a Week 7 loss to the Colts.
Analysis: McMichael doesn't see a whole ton of action in the Rams offense and has very minimal Fantasy value heading into Week 8 at Detroit.
News: Rams WR Randy McMichael made three catches in Week 6 at Jacksonville. He racked up 32 total yards with the three catches with a long of 16 yards.
Analysis: McMichael has three catches in each of his past two games, gaining 13 more yards in Week 5. He will have a decent game now and again but is certainly just a low-end Fantasy TE option.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael caught three passes for 45 yards in a Week 5 loss to the Vikings.
Analysis: McMichael pops up now and again with a Fantasy-viable performance, but heads into Week 6 at Jacksonville as just a low-end bye-week replacement option in super-deep formats.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael caught two passes for 17 yards during a Week 4 loss to the 49ers. He was targeted five times. He now has 10 catches for 99 yards in four games.
Analysis: McMichael has been a pretty disappointing pass receiver since landing in St. Louis in 2007. He pretty much just gets a few catches per week and doesn't do a lot with them. McMichael has low-end Fantasy appeal heading into Week 5 against the Vikings.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael will face the San Francisco 49ers. The Niners have allowed the ninth most passing yards in the NFL through the first three weeks of the season, giving up 253.0 net passing yards per game. They have allowed four passing touchdowns.
Analysis: Last season, McMichael did not face the 49ers due the broken leg he suffered. McMichael caught two passes for 24 yards Week 3 in a loss to the Packers. He has eight catches for 82 yards on the year. We view him as a No. 2 tight end option against the Niners.
News: St. Louis TE Randy McMichael caught two passes for 24 yards Week 3 in a loss to the Packers. He has eight catches for 82 yards on the year.
Analysis: The Rams offense has been dismal in the first three games and McMichael should not be anything but a No. 2 Fantasy TE for Week 4 at San Francisco.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael caught two passes for 14 yards Week 2 in a loss at Washington.
Analysis: McMichael has six catches on the season for 58 yards and hasn't scored. The Rams offense has been dismal in the first two games and McMichael should not be anything but a No. 2 Fantasy TE for Week 3 at home against Green Bay.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael caught four passes in Sunday's Week 1 game against the Seahawks for a total of 44 yards. His longest catch of the game went for 18 yards but he failed to score a touchdown.
Analysis: McMichael dealt with a broken leg last season and ended up playing in only four games. He doesn't have much steam heading into this season but is healthy and ready to go. The Rams' passing attack isn't all that intimidating but McMichael could get more looks his way as the Rams' receiving corps is inexperienced. Think of him as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy TE for Week 2 against the Redskins.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael caught two of the four passes thrown his way for 22 yards during Thursday's preseason game against the Bengals. He now has four catches for 47 yards in the preseason.
Analysis: McMichael played in just four games during the 2008 season because of a broken leg. He has been a huge disappointment since arriving in St. Louis in 2007 and has dropped down the Fantasy rankings significantly. He has potential to play well, but he should be considered a No. 2 Fantasy option to start the year.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael said Thursday he's not going to ask for the ball this year. He hopes to be involved in the offense, but he's not going to hold his breath. "It's my third year here, and that's been at the top every year I've been here," McMichael said. "I'm just going to go back to being patient. Just play ball. If it comes, it comes. If it doesn't, I've still got other duties to do on this team other than catching balls. So I just have to focus on all three phases of what a tight end does." McMichael, who missed most of 2008 with a broken leg, said he feels fine to start training camp. "I feel good," he said. "This is probably the best that I have felt this early into camp. My body is not really sore or anything, so if my body continues to feel the way it feels, then I'm good. That's one thing that I worry about coming into training camp, is the wear and tear on your body. But I feel really good."
Analysis: A prolific pass-catcher in Miami, where he averaged 56 receptions and 619 yards over five seasons, McMichael spent the bulk of his first year with the Rams blocking because of injuries to the offensive line. He finished with just 39 catches and 429 yards in 2007 after arriving here as a free agent. He was on pace last year to reprise his Dolphins numbers when he suffered a broken bone in his lower right leg in Week 4 vs. Buffalo. He has potential to play well, but he should be considered a No. 2 Fantasy option to start the year.
News: The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Rams TE Randy McMichael is ready to play a bigger role this year after two disappointing seasons with the team. A prolific pass-catcher in Miami, where he averaged 56 receptions and 619 yards over five seasons, McMichael spent the bulk of his first year with the Rams blocking because of injuries to the offensive line. He finished with just 39 catches and 429 yards in 2007 after arriving here as a free agent. He was on pace last year to reprise his Dolphins numbers when he suffered a broken bone in his lower right leg in Week 4 vs. Buffalo. A healthy McMichael figures to be a key component in the West Coast-style offense that new coordinator Pat Shurmur is installing, first-year coach Steve Spagnuolo pointed out.
Analysis: After the releases of Torry Holt and Drew Bennett, the Rams' corps of wide receivers is young and largely inexperienced. That means that McMichael could be an even more frequent target for QB Marc Bulger. McMichael is never going to be an elite Fantasy TE, but he can be a serviceable No. 2 option and bye-week replacement. Don't plan on drafting McMichael in any leagues, but he is worth adding off the waiver wire during the year if he can stay healthy and start playing like he did two years ago.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael was placed on IR Monday, officially ending his season. TE Daniel Fells was signed from Tampa Bay's practice squad to take McMichaels place on the roster.
Analysis: McMichael can now safely be released in all formats, while Fells should also be ignored for now.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael sustained a broken tibia in Week 4 and coach Jim Haslett said he'll be out at least eight weeks. The Rams are considering placing McMichael on injured reserve, thus ending his season. Joe Klopfenstein will start in his place.
Analysis: McMichael pops up now and again with a decent outing, but he wasn't worth using as a starting TE while healthy. He can now safely be released in all formats, as hopefully you won't be scrambling for a TE come Week 13.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael caught two passes for 26 yards in Week 4, but left the game with just under two minutes to go in the fourth quarter when he suffered an injury to his right ankle.
Analysis: McMichael appeared to suffer a high-ankle injury which could have been a sprain. But that's just speculation at this point. He'll have the bye in Week 5 to recover, but is not looking like anything more than a low-end bye week replacement for the future with the way the Rams' offense has looked thus far.
News: Rams RE Randy McMichael made two catches for 12 yards in a Week 3 loss to the Seahawks.
Analysis: Since his nice 5-77 outing in Week 1, McMichael has gone back to being the non-factor he was for most of 2007. He's worth holding onto as a bye-week replacement in deeper leagues, but not much more. The Rams host the Bills in Week 4.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael caught two passes for 24 yards in Week 2 against the Giants. His longest catch went for 14 yards. The Rams offense has been unproductive in the first two weeks of the season, totaling just one touchdown in 120 minutes of football.
Analysis: McMichael led the team in receiving in Week 1 at Philadelphia and will be relied upon with Drew Bennett injured and no other real receiving options to speak of on the team other than Torry Holt and Steven Jackson out of the backfield. Consider him a decent No. 2 Fantasy tight end or a low-end No. 1 in deeper leagues.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael led the team in receiving in Week 1 at Philadelphia. He caught five passes for 77 yards, including a 31-yard pass.
Analysis: The Rams pass offense was putrid in Week 1, gaining just 158 yards of total offense. Quarterback Marc Bulger didn't have much time to throw the ball in Week 1 and that's likely to be the case again in Week 2 against a tough Giants pass rush. That could mean more quick outlet passes for McMichael. Consider him a solid pickup off the waiver wire if he's available as a potential stopgap or No. 2 Fantasy tight end. He's available in 68 percent of CBSSports.com leagues.
News:Randy McMichael averaged 65 catches the previous three seasons in Miami before joining the Rams. His big numbers in Miami under then-offensive coordinator Scott Linehan made St. Louis a natural destination. But the Rams went 3-13 in a forgettable season. He finished with 39 catches, an 11-yard average and three touchdowns last year, spending most of the time blocking when injuries decimated the Rams' O-line. Aside from a six-reception game against Pittsburgh near the end of the season, he had more than three grabs in only two games. This year, 65 catches may not be enough in an attack that promises to use more of the field and skill players. That would be good news for a receivers' group that had no plays longer than 40 yards last season. "I hope more than that," McMichael said. "I'm really excited for this offense."
Analysis: We've been waiting for McMichael to have a big year since he came into the NFL and were extremely disappointed with what happened last season. Still, he has plenty of talent and the potential to thrive in this offense. With Isaac Bruce gone to San Francisco, someone has to assume those catches from Marc Bulger, and McMichael could be that player. Consider him a No. 2 Fantasy TE to start 2008 with the chance to see his value rise during the year.
News: The Rams are expecting a big season for TE Randy McMichael and plan to use him more in the passing game and less as a blocker, reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "Randy, the same as a lot of guys, came in here last year with a lot of expectations, and last year was last year," coach Scott Linehan said. "This year he can really step up and play big in this offense. He's going to have plenty of opportunities, for sure." With just 39 catches for 429 yards, McMichael slogged through his least productive year in his six NFL seasons. Two offseason moves directly affected McMichael: the hiring of Al Saunders as offensive coordinator and the signing of free-agent TE Anthony Becht from Tampa Bay. Saunders brings a more aggressive approach on offense. Becht is the big, blocking tight end that Linehan has been seeking since taking over as coach. That will allow McMichael to get out and run more routes.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael failed to meet expectations in 2007, catching just 39 passes for a career-low 429 yards (11.0 avg.) and three touchdowns. McMichael was expected to be more of a regular target for the Rams, especially in the red zone, but was ultimately either kept on the line to help block or get taken off the field for an added blocker because the Rams' offensive line was a mess.
Analysis: If St. Louis re-tools its O-line and the team doesn't entirely revamp its receiving corps, McMichael will have a shot to get around 600 yards and five touchdowns. Helping his cause will be new offensive coordinator and play caller Al Saunders, who has made tight ends like Tony Gonzalez and Chris Cooley sensational passing threats. Figure McMichael to be a very low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE in 2008, but worth a late-round pick.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael waited until Week 16 to finally record his best outing of the 2007 season. McMichael caught six passes for 51 yards, including a long gain of 14 yards. It was the first time all season he caught more than five passes and the first time he totaled more than 50 yards.
Analysis: To say that McMichael had a disappointing first year with the Rams would be an understatement. He came into the season as a Fantasy sleeper, but has been pretty much asleep. He is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy TE heading into Week 17 against the Cardinals.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael heads into Week 16's game against the Steelers on the back of four straight two-catch games. He hasn't had more than 45 yards receiving this season.
Analysis: If you've got this far in your Fantasy season with McMichael as your TE, then we congratulate you. Two catches a game aren't going to get you very far in your championship game, however, so you might want to look elsewhere in Week 16 unless your league starts two TEs.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael had two catches for 22 yards in Week 15 vs. Green Bay.
Analysis: McMichael has been a letdown in Fantasy play as far as tight ends are concerned and he's too unreliable to trust at this critical juncture of the season. Consider other options for Week 16 vs. Pittsburgh.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael caught two passes for 23 yards in Week 14 at Cincinnati.
Analysis: If Marc Bulger returns for St. Louis next week, McMichael will be good to go vs. Green Bay. If it's third stringer Brock Berlin, he will continue to struggle statistically (not that he's a hot commodity in the first place). McMichael should probably just be benched in Week 15 action.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael has two touchdowns in his last four games while still playing in a limited role in the St. Louis offense. That should continue to be the case against the Bengals in Week 14, but there's a glimmer of hope for McMichael to see more passes go his way if inexperienced third-string QB Brock Berlin starts for the Rams instead of starter Marc Bulger (concussion).
Analysis: Either way, McMichael is nothing more than a No. 2 Fantasy TE in Week 14.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael caught two passes for 10 yards, one of them going for his third touchdown of the season, in St. Louis' 28-16 win over the Falcons in Week 13.
Analysis: McMichael has been a massive disappointment this season and didn't benefit greatly in targets with the change in QB, but obviously did get into the end zone. He will try to score again in Week 14 against the Bengals.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael will have a new QB in Week 13. Coach Scott Linehan said Thursday that QB Marc Bulger will be out for this Sunday's game vs. Atlanta. Gus Frerotte in his place Bulger suffered a concussion in Week 12 against Seattle and did not pass any of his tests to clear him for the game. "He's closer, but just not 100 percent," Linehan said. "He's as close to 100 percent as you can get after that. This week is just too soon. We'll re-issue the same type of tests on Monday, and if he clears out then there is no reason he shouldn't be able to play next week."
Analysis: McMichael's Fantasy value won't change even with the switch at QB. He should still be considered a No. 2 option against the Falcons, who are No. 8 in pass defense with 14 touchdowns allowed.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael had two catches for 26 yards Sunday against Seattle.
Analysis: McMichael is a No. 2 TE in Fantasy leagues and should be considered a No. 2 option against the Falcons in Week 13.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael caught one pass for four yards Week 12 against the Seahawks.
Analysis: McMichael had put together a string of steady performances before Sunday's collapse. With the Rams offense more or less on track, we still consider him a decent Fantasy option for Week 12 against the Seahawks.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael had four catches for 41 yards and a touchdown Sunday against the Saints. He caught the touchdown from RB Steven Jackson.
Analysis: McMichael has been a huge disappointment this season, but he could be in line for a good second half now that Marc Bulger is 100 percent. Still, consider McMichael a No. 2 Fantasy TE for Week 11 at the 49ers until he strings together a couple of good games in a row.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael continues to be a barely-used part of the St. Louis offense. But he's got a shot at catching some balls for decent yardage as the Rams play at New Orleans in Week 10. The Saints currently rank 27th against the pass and have allowed 14 passing TDs this season.
Analysis: Expect other Rams to be involved in the passing game, but McMichael is a consistent two-to-three catch guy for about 30 yards. If you want those guaranteed stats, consider him as a bye-week replacement for Week 10.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael caught only two passes for 29 yards in St. Louis' 27-20 loss to the Browns in Week 8.
Analysis: McMichael hasn't caught more than three passes in any game this season and only has one touchdown in 2007. He was likely brought in to St. Louis to be a big part of the offense, but hasn't manage to do much except disappoint his Fantasy owners. Bench him in Week 9 as the Rams are off, and you should leave him there unless you don't have another option.
News: With Marc Bulger back under center and Steven Jackson expected back at running back, the Rams will be as close to completely healthy as they can be when they host Cleveland in Week 8. And with the Browns ranking 29th against the pass, that's only going to help St. Louis' vertical game. Tight end Randy McMichael hasn't been a big contributor, but he's been consistent, catching at least two passes in every game this season. That should continue in Week 8, possibly with a red-zone target or two in the game.
Analysis: If you're thin at tight end and need someone who will deliver some points, McMichael is your guy. Keep expectations low (he's only scored once this season) but think of him as a decent bye-week replacement this week.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael caught three passes for 34 yards Week 7 at Seattle.
Analysis: The Dolphins look like geniuses for releasing McMichael during the offseason, as he hasn't done very much in St. Louis -- but then again, who has? The Rams have no offensive line, so the struggles should continue for McMichael going forward. Start him only in deep leagues Week 8 against the Browns.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael hasn't caught more than three balls in a game so far this season and only has one touchdown in six games, averaging a pathetic 29.2 yards a contest.
Analysis: The Dolphins look like geniuses for releasing McMichael during the offseason, as he hasn't done very much in St. Louis -- but then again, who has? McMichael gets QB Marc Bulger back this week, so his owners will be hoping that starts an upswing in his performances. In their last two games, the Seahawks have allowed touchdowns to TEs, so McMichael does have a good chance to double his TD total for the season in Seattle. Consider him a No. 2 TE option in Week 7.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael caught two passes for 29 yards during a Week 6 loss to the Ravens. His longest reception went for 20 yards. McMichael now has 14 catches for 175 yards and one touchdown.
Analysis: McMichael, pegged as a Fantasy sleeper heading into the season, has been nothing short of disappointing in 2007. The Rams offense has struggled and McMichael has suffered along with them. He heads into Week 7 against Seattle as nothing more than a No. 2 Fantasy TE.
News: With Randy McMichael coming off of a 45-yard, one-TD performance vs. Arizona in Week 5, is he a good play again in Week 6 at Baltimore? Upon first glance, the answer is no, but two weeks ago the Ravens yielded 96 yards to Browns TE Kellen Winslow. Cleveland has been the only team this season the Ravens have played with a prominent tight end.
Analysis: The Ravens rank 13th against the pass, but will force the Rams into throwing the ball. Considering McMichael's weak performances so far this season, expecting much from him isn't a good idea. He's a No. 2 Fantasy TE this week.
News: Tight end Aaron Walker replaced Randy McMichael in the St. Louis Rams' starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals. Walker finished with just one catch for five yards while McMichael caught three passes for 45 yards and a touchdown.
Analysis: McMichael remains the main pass-catching tight end for the Rams and that won't change this season. He's worth using as a No. 2 Fantasy TE for Week 6 vs. Baltimore.
News: Tight end Aaron Walker replaced Randy McMichael in the St. Louis Rams' starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals. A team spokesman said McMichael was not hurt. McMichael was signed as a free agent in the offseason after playing five years with the Miami Dolphins. This season, McMichael has nine receptions to 101 yards. Walker, a five-year veteran, entered with one catch for 8 yards.
Analysis: The Rams are trying everything to jump start their offense. Fantasy owners should watch the ongoings in St. Louis. Right now with the Rams offense struggling, neither Walker or McMichael are more than low-end Fantasy options.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael had three catches for 24 yards last week against Dallas, which were the most catches he's had in a game this season. With the Rams offensive line banged up, expect McMichael to again spend more time blocking and less time running routes.
Analysis: McMichael is making the Dolphins' brass look like geniuses by stinking the joint up with the Rams in 2007. To be fair, a banged-up offensive line and a QB playing with broken ribs haven't helped the former Georgia Bulldog, but leave him alone in Week 5 regardless.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael had three catches for 24 yards Sunday against Dallas.
Analysis: McMichael will struggle as long as the Rams offense is in shambles. Consider him a No. 2 option at this point in Week 5 against Arizona.
News: Randy McMichael had two catches for 13 yards at Tampa Bay in Week 3. McMichael has 77 yards on the season.
Analysis: The time has come to give up on McMichael, especially if a decent TE option is available on the waiver wire. With the Rams O-line unable to block for anybody, McMichael probably won't play a whole lot since they'll need a blocker to help them out, and McMichael is not a good blocker. Expect him to hit the waiver wire in a lot of leagues this week. Do not rely on him at Dallas in Week 4.
News: Rams TE Randy McMichael had two catches for 40 yards Sunday against the 49ers.
Analysis: McMichael should be considered a No. 2 TE in Week 3 against Tampa Bay.
News: Two late catches for Rams TE Randy McMichael got him 24 yards vs. Carolina in Week 1.
Analysis: McMichael was expected to see more stats with WR Drew Bennett out for St. Louis. He is worth a look as a low-end Fantasy TE in standard scoring leagues when the Rams play vs. San Francisco in Week 2.
News: The Rams receiving corps is banged up with injuries to Torry Holt (knee) and Drew Bennett (quad), which means Randy McMichael could enjoy a big debut in his first game with the Rams.
Analysis: Look for McMichael to run free down the middle of the field and be a potential redzone target for QB Marc Bulger. The former Dolphin's debut in the Greatest Show on Turf could be a big one, Fantasy-wise.
News: Randy McMichael is ready to make an impact with the Rams. McMichael's per-season average in five years with the Dolphins was 56 catches. His production surged over the past three seasons, when he averaged 65 receptions, 671 yards and four touchdowns. Because of his season under Scott Linehan, when Linehan was the offensive coordinator in Miami, McMichael was familiar with the offensive system and adapted quickly during organized team activities at Rams Park.
Analysis: McMichael should enter the season with something to prove after being released by Miami. He has a good chance to excel in St. Louis and finally live up to his potential. Consider him a low-end No. 1 TE for 2007.
News: The Rams have announced the signing of TE Randy McMichael. The two sides agreed to a three-year deal. A solid receiving tight end, McMichael has posted 60-plus catches in each of the last three seasons, averaging around 10 yards per catch each year with 12 scores. He has never missed an NFL game. "This has been in the works for a while," said Rams coach Scott Linehan. "We even considered trading for him. He is an every-down tight end and a proven starter in the league. He does a lot of things well."
Analysis: This is a steal for the Rams, who can now use McMichael to create matchup problems for opponents who already must account for Steven Jackson, Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce and Drew Bennett. Expect McMichael's statistics to be improved playing with the Rams, making him a No. 1 Fantasy tight end in 2007 Fantasy play.
News: Quarterback Joey Harrington and tight end Randy McMichael were released Monday by the Miami Dolphins. The release of Harrington had been expected, in part because he was due a $1 million roster bonus. In his only season with Miami, he went 5-6 as a starter filling in for Daunte Culpepper, then was benched the final game in favor of Cleo Lemon. McMichael was due a $3 million roster bonus, and his contract was terminated after Miami was unable to swing a trade for him. A starter since his rookie season in 2002, McMichael is the Dolphins' career leader among tight ends with 283 catches for 3,096 yards. He had at least 60 receptions each of the past three years.
Analysis: For McMichael, the future remains bright as he should get gobbled up by a club somewhere and start in 2007. As for Harrington, it's going to be hard for him to find promised playing time (Oakland?), so don't look his way for Fantasy in '07.
News: Randy McMichael's agent Drew Rosenhaus confirmed to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that his client is on the trading block. The Dolphins are asking for a third-round pick for him. "I talked to [Dolphins GM Randy Mueller] and he explained it to me, there's a new head coach and that they're simply exploring all their options," Rosenhaus said during an interview on WSVN-TV. "I don't believe a trade is a foregone conclusion. I still think there's a very solid chance that Randy could still be back with the team. He'd love to stay."
Analysis: Last year, McMichael caught 62 passes for 640 yards and three touchdowns. He's never come close to 1,000 yards but seems to be a good red-zone target, thus keeping him as a low-end No. 1/top-end No. 2 Fantasy tight end in 2007 league play.

Analysis: McMichael's Fantasy value will go up as soon as QB Daunte Culpepper gets comfortable in the Dolphins offensive system. The Dolphins play the Patriots in Week 5.

He has six catches for 59 yards through three games. "I'd be a liar if I said it wasn't frustrating," said McMichael. "But you've got to work through it. I'm just going to keep working hard. Hopefully, one of those games will come. I'm not going to say I'm used to it. But everything is going to be all right."
Analysis: McMichael's awful start to the season can be partially blamed on Culpepper's woes. In fact, not a single Miami receiver is averaging more than 60 receiving yards per game thus far. McMichael should be a regular target of Daunte Culpepper's this season and could see several receptions in Week 1 since the Steelers' blitzing schemes may force more short passes for Miami. And don't forget McMichael's touchdown streak he had to start the 2005 season.
Analysis: McMichael was drafted to be a starter in Fantasy leagues, so don't sit him down unless you have a better option with a better matchup. McMichael is a candidate to get 60 yards and a touchdown in that Pittsburgh game.

Analysis: McMichael should definitely see better numbers in 2006, especially since Culpepper is his quarterback. Even with his errant passing last season, Culpepper utilized the tight end a lot, and that spells loads of stats for Randy McMichael. He won't be good enough to jump into the Antonio Gates-Tony Gonzalez-Jeremy Shockey level of Fantasy TEs, but he's on the elevator heading there.
