News: The Washington Examiner reports on Saturday that the Redskins have placed CB Phillip Buchanon (neck, knee) on injured reserve. Buchanon did not manage a single tackle for the Redskins this season. He was only active for one game.
Analysis: Buchanon was not prepared for the season and has spent most of it on the inactive list. He has no Fantasy value as his 2011 season is over.
News: Washington DB Phillip Buchanon, who was listed as questionable on the team's injury report for Week 6 against Philadelphia because of a neck injury, was ruled inactive for the game. Buchanon, who was reinstated following a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances, was a limited participant in practice throughout the week. He will look to make Week 7 against Carolina his debut for the season.
Analysis: In addition to the injury, Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett had said he wasn't sure whether or not Buchanon would play since he was unprepared to play inside as the nickel corner. Fantasy owners in IDP formats shouldn't rely too much on the 31-year-old Buchanon for the remainder of the season.

Buchanon, who was reinstated following a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances, was a limited participant in practice throughout the week.
Analysis: In addition to the injury, Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett said he's not sure yet if Buchanon will be active Sunday since Buchanon may be unprepared to play inside as the nickel corner. "We ask them to do a lot of things, not just covering," Haslett said. Fantasy owners in IDP formats shouldn't rely too much on the 31-year-old Buchanon for the remainder of the season.
News: Washington CB Phillip Buchanon, who was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice with a neck issue, was reinstated by the Redskins and will likely play in Week 6 at home against the Eagles. Buchanon is not expected to miss the game due to injury. Buchanon had been suspended for a violation of the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.
Analysis: The Redskins are definitely happy to get Buchanon back in the secondary opposite DeAngelo Hall. This just makes the defense in Washington a little scarier as it has already been solid all year. For Fantasy purposes, however, Buchanon has little value in IDP formats. He should not be active in any leagues for the Week 6 game.
News: The NFL says Washington Redskins cornerback Phillip Buchanon's four-game suspension is for a violation of the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances. The NFL announced the suspension Friday. Coach Mike Shanahan said a month ago that Buchanon would be suspended for the first four games of the regular season, but the coach did not reveal why.
Analysis: Buchanon re-signed with the Redskins on Aug. 1. He saw limited action during the preseason because the coaches wanted to focus on players who would be available for the first month. He also was dealing with a shoulder injury, so he will be given plenty of time to rest. The University of Miami product will compete to be a reserve DB when healthy, but he is not expected to make a considerable Fantasy impact. Ignore Buchanon on Draft Day.
News: Just after re-signing CB Phillip Buchanon, the Redskins announced that he was suspended for four games. Head coach Mike Shanahan did not say why he was suspended.
Analysis: Buchanon played in all 16 games last season on the way to 49 tackles and a pair of interceptions. He figures to have similar numbers again in 2011 if he is even among the top three CBs on the squad. Buchanon isn't worth selecting in any IDP formats on Draft Day.
News:The Washington Post reported Monday that the Redskins were able to re-sign cornerback Phillip Buchanon. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed, though the 10th-year veteran announced the news via Twitter. D.C. Im on my way... " he said. Buchanon will likely compete for the nickelback job this season.
Analysis: Buchanon played in all 16 games last season on the way to 49 tackles and a pair of interceptions. He figures to have similar numbers again in 2011 if he is among the top three CBs on the squad. Even if he does, Buchanon isn't worth selecting in any IDP formats on Draft Day.
News: Washington cornerback Phillip Buchanon started for Carlos Rogers in Week 11 at Tennessee and came up big in the overtime win. Buchanon recovered a fumble and also recorded an interception in the game. He also made six tackles.
Analysis: Buchanon made just his second start of the season as Rogers is usually the starter on the corner for Washington. The interception was his first and Rogers should return next week against Minnesota. Buchanon isn't gaining Fantasy viability anytime soon.
News: Redskins PR/KR Brandon Banks (knee) is a game-time decision for the Week 10 game against the Eagles. He underwent surgery during the bye week and was originally expected to miss Monday night's game. If Banks can't play, then Phillip Buchanon would handle PR duties.
Analysis: Buchanon is an average DB at-best for the 'Skins, but he has had some success as a returner in the NFL, taking three punt returns back for touchdowns in his 9-year career. Still, he should be ignored in Fantasy play.
News: CB Phillip Buchanon was able to defend three passes against the Colts in the Week 6 loss. He covered Reggie Wayne very well at the end of the game, when Peyton Manning looked his way to ice the game. Buchanon also racked up five tackles (four solo).
Analysis: Buchanon typically gets picked on but he showed his worth when the 'Skins needed it most. Still, Buchanon does not make enough plays to be relevant in Fantasy. Keep him off of rosters.
News: The Washington Redskins announced Monday that they have signed free agent CB Phillip Buchanon. Buchanon, 29, will be entering his ninth NFL season after originally joining the league as a first-round draft pick of the Oakland Raiders in 2002. For his career, Buchanon has played in 105 games, with 76 starts, and has amassed 18 interceptions, five of which he has returned for touchdowns. "We are very excited to add a veteran corner, such as Phillip, to our defensive backfield," Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said. "He has had a lot of success in this league and brings with him the ability to create turnovers. He will be a big part of what we are trying to accomplish defensively in Washington."
Analysis: Buchanon, who was with Detroit last year, has minimal Fantasy value. He is not worth drafting in IDP leagues this year.
News: The Detroit Lions announced that they have released CB Phillip Buchanon and DT Grady Jackson.
Analysis: Neither of these players were expected to produce many stats in the first place. Keep them off of Fantasy rosters.
News: Detroit LB Larry Foote, DB Phillip Buchanon, WR Eric Fowler and DL Joe Cohen have all been listed as inactive for the team's Week 16 game at San Francisco.
Analysis: None of these players have much Fantasy value and can continue to be ignored in all formats.
News: The Lions defense had a decent showing on Sunday in a Week 13 loss to the Bengals. Marvin White and Louis Delmas led the way on defense with both players tying for the team lead in tackles with 11. Anthony Henry had five tackles in the game and added an interception. Phillip Buchanon had five tackles in the game as well, adding a sack and a forced fumble. William James had an interception in the game and added three tackles. DeWayne White recovered a fumble in the game.
Analysis: Delmas is the only mentioned player that is worth using in the majority of IDP formats and should be considered a No. 2 option. The rest of these players are either low-end options or not worth owning in Fantasy play.
News: The Lions had several defenders play well Sunday at Minnesota. Larry Foote had three tackles. Phillip Buchanon had seven tackles and a forced fumble. Joe Cohen had one tackle and a sack. Julian Peterson had seven tackles.
Analysis: The Lions don't have many defenders who are worth using most weeks, but they do have a favorable matchup in Week 11 against Cleveland. Consider the Lions IDP options as sleepers against the Browns.
News: The Lions listed DB Phillip Buchanon (neck) as inactive for Week 1 at New Orleans. He was considered questionable leading up to the game.
Analysis: Buchanon is a low-end DB in IDP leagues and should not be active in any league until further notice.
News: The Detroit Lions signed unrestricted free-agent defensive tackle Grady Jackson to a three-year contract and free-agent cornerback Phillip Buchanon to a two-year deal Wednesday. The 6-foot-2, 345-pound Jackson played most of the past three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. In 2008, Jackson started 15 games and had 23 tackles (21 solo) and two sacks for the Falcons. Buchanon, 28, started all 16 games for Tampa Bay last season, intercepting two passes and returning one for a touchdown.
Analysis: Jackson is a space eater who will clog the run and not rush the passer like a quality Fantasy DL would. Buchanon had a nice year for the Bucs in 2008 but may have done so in order to cash in, which he has done. He's got minimal potential. Neither player is worth owning in Fantasy play at this time.
News: Tampa Bay DB Phillip Buchanon had four tackles Sunday against San Diego.
Analysis: Buchanon is a low-end DB in IDP leagues and should not be used in Week 17 against Oakland.
News: In the Buccaneers' 23-20 win vs. the Saints in Week 13, notable defenders included: LB Barrett Ruud (10 total tackles), CB Ronde Barber (seven solo tackles), FS Jermaine Phillips (eight total tackles, interception), LB Derrick Brooks (five solo tackles), DE Greg White (four total tackles, half-sack), DE Gaines Adams (one total tackle, half-sack), CB Phillip Buchanon (two total tackles, interception) and LB Cato June (two total tackles, interception).
Analysis: Of these defenders, Ruud, Barber, Phillips, Brooks and Adams are worth using in standard IDP league play. The rest are no better than low-end options. The Bucs play at the Panthers in Week 14.
News: Bucs DB Phillip Buchanon had three tackles Sunday at Dallas.
Analysis: Buchanon is a low-end DB in IDP leagues and should only be used if needed in Week 9 at Kansas City.
News: Bucs DB Phillip Buchanon had six tackles Sunday against Seattle.
Analysis: Buchanon is a low-end DB in IDP leagues and should only be used if needed in Week 8 at Dallas.
News: Buccaneers DB Ronde Barber led his team in Week 4 with six tackles as Tampa Bay defeated the Packers. Also helping out were: DB Elbert Mack (three tackles), DB Philip Buchanon (three tackles) and DB Jermaine Phillips (two tackles, fumble recovery).
Analysis: Barber, Buchanon and Phillips are decent low-end starting Fantasy options at their respective positions in IDP formats, while Mack has minimal value right now. The first three might be worth starting against the Broncos in Week 5, as Denver likes to chuck the ball around.
News: Buccaneers LB Barrett Ruud (eight tackles), DB Jermaine Phillips (six tackles) and DB Phillip Buchanon (five tackles) led the way tackle-wise for Tampa Bay in their Week 2 win over the Falcons.
Analysis: Ruud now has 18 tackles in two games and remains a solid low-end starting LB in all IDP Fantasy formats going into Week 3 at Chicago. Buchanon has some value as a decent reserve DB, while Phillips has no Fantasy value.
News: Buccaneers DB Phillip Buchanon made four tackles and returned an interception for a touchdown in a Week 1 loss to the Saints.
Analysis: Philips is a starting CB in Buccaneers and could well be in for a big season in 2008. He's definitely worth a waiver wire pick-up in deeper IDP leagues.
News: Buccaneers LB Cato June (seven tackles, pass defended), LB Derrick Brooks (seven tackles), LB Barrett Ruud (six tackles), DB Philip Buchanon (five tackles) and DB Jermaine Phillips (four tackles) led the way defensively in Tampa Bay's 28-14 loss to the Houston Texans in Week 14.
Analysis: Ruud and Brooks are solid No. 2 Fantasy LB options in IDP leagues, while June, Phillips and Buchanon have some value as bench players. Start only Ruud and Brooks in Week 15 against the Falcons.
News: DB Phillip Buchanon (eight tackles, forced fumble), DB Jermaine Phillips (seven tackles, forced fumble), DL Jovan Haye (six tackles) and LB Cato June (five tackles) all helped out with nice contributions in Tampa Bay's 19-16 win over the Redskins in Week 12.
Analysis: Phillips has some nice value as a reserve DB, while Buchanon, Haye and June have minimal value as backups at their respective positions. Consider Phillips only in Week 13 at New Orleans.
News: CB Phillip Buchanon (one tackle) and DL Kevin Carter (three tackles) were part of a solid effort from the Buccaneers against Arizona Sunday.
Analysis: Neither Buchanon or Carter are worth owning outside of larger IDP leagues at this point.
News: Bucs DB Phillip Buchanon had three tackles Sunday against Detroit.
Analysis: Buchanon is a No. 2 DB in IDP leagues and is worth using in Week 8 against Jacksonville.
News: Buccaneers DB Phillip Buchanon had eight tackles and an interception Week 6 against the Titans.
Analysis: Buchanon is a starting DB for the Bucs, but up until Week 5, he didn't rack up enough stats to warrant use in Fantasy leagues. He now has 18 tackles and an interception in his last two games, however, so consider him a lower-end DB option for Week 7 at the Lions.
News: Bucs DB Phillip Buchanon totaled 10 tackles (all solo) during a Week 5 loss to the Colts. He now has 22 tackles and one interception through five games.
Analysis: Buchanon is a starting DB for the Bucs, but up until Week 5, didn't rack up enough stats to warrant use in Fantasy leagues. He truly isn't anything more than a low-end Fantasy DB heading into Week 6 against the Titans.
News: Notable Bucs defenders from Week 3 vs. the Rams include: LB Barrett Ruud (11 total tackles, interception), LB Derrick Brooks (eight total tackles, forced fumble), DE Kevin Carter (seven total tackles, one-half sack), DB Jermaine Phillips (seven total tackles, interception), CB Phillip Buchanon (four solo tackles, interception), LB Cato June (six total tackles), DT Greg Peterson (five total tackles, one-half sack) and CB Ronde Barber (three total tackles).
Analysis: Of these players, Ruud, Brooks, Phillips and June are reliable Fantasy IDP options. Ronde Barber has been slow to put up big Fantasy points this season, so consider him more of a No. 2 Fantasy DB for now. The Bucs play at Carolina in Week 4.
News: The Buccaneers have announced that they have signed CB Phillip Buchanon. Terms were not disclosed. Last season, Buchanon played in 14 games with four starts, including 10 games and four starts with the Buccaneers after beginning the season with the Houston Texans. He totaled 30 tackles, two interceptions, eight passes defensed, one fumble recovery, along with returning 14 punts for 95 yards and five kickoffs for 106 yards as a member of the Buccaneers and Texans.
Analysis: Buchanon will help provide depth at the cornerback position and help on special teams, but he doesn't put up enough stats to warrant use in Fantasy IDP league play.
News: The Buccaneers DST had one sack and one fumble recovery in the season finale against Seattle. DL Greg Spires had five tackles and a sack. DB Phillip Buchanon had five tackles and recovered a fumble. LB Derrick Brooks had 11 tackles. DB Ronde Barber had three tackles. DB Jermaine Phillips had eight tackles. LB Shelton Quarles had eight tackles.
Analysis: Look for the Bucs DST to bounce back to a useful Fantasy option in 2007.
News: Notable Bucs defenders from Week 16 include: LB Derrick Brooks (seven total tackles, interception-return for a touchdown), DT Chris Hovan (eight total tackles, sack), DE Greg Spires (four total tackles, two sacks), FS Jermaine Phillips (four total tackles, two interceptions), CB Phillip Buchanon (two solo tackles, interception) and Ronde Barber (two solo tackles).
Analysis: Brooks and Barber are the only reliable Fantasy options from this group for use vs. Seattle in Week 17.
News: Bucs coach Jon Gruden said Friday that TE Alex Smith, CB Phillip Buchanon and CB Torrie Cox were all removed from the injury report and will play at Cleveland in Week 16.
Analysis: Only Smith deserves Fantasy consideration, and he's at best a low-end option at tight end. Don't aim to start him if you can help it in Week 16.
News: Bucs DB Juran Bolden (quad), DB Phillip Buchanon (groin), DB Torrie Cox (neck) and LB Jamie Winborn (knee) are listed as questionable for Week 16 at Cleveland.
Analysis: None of these players are recommended Fantasy options for Week 16.
News: Buccaneers listed on the Week 15 injury report include: LB Shelton Quarles (ankle, knee), CB Juran Bolden (quadricep) and DT Ellis Wyms (ankle) are questionable, while CB Philip Buchanon (groin) is probable.
Analysis: Only Quarles is worth using in Fantasy IDP league play as a low-end LB option. If he plays, use him at Chicago in Week 15. The rest shouldn't be involved in Fantasy play.
News: The Bucs defense were able to hold Michael Vick in check Week 14 by not letting him score or rush for more than five yards. But the rest of the Falcons pitched in to score 17 points and rack up 280 yards. Bucs DB Phillip Buchanon had an interception and sacks went to LB Shelton Quarles (1 1/2) and LB Ryan Nece (1/2).
Analysis: The Bucs defense continues to be a huge disappointment this season. However, the Bucs DST could be used as a one-week sleeper in Week 15 against a struggling Bears offense. Quarles is the only Bucs defender that should be used in IDP leagues.
News: A disappointment in Houston, cornerback Phillip Buchanon will get an opportunity to jump-start his NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Seeking help for an injury-depleted secondary, the Bucs signed the former first-round pick of the Oakland Raiders on Tuesday with hopes of getting more out of him than the Texans did after paying a hefty price in 2005.
Analysis: The Bucs are thin at cornerback because starter Brian Kelly is injured and backups Juran Bolden and Torrie Cox are banged up, too. Buchanon has 34 starts in 50 career games since entering the league in 2002, although most of his contribution with the Texans came on special teams as a punt returner. He is not worth using in IDP leagues right now.
News: Phillip Buchanon was released by the Texans on Monday, ending his injury-filled and lackluster stay in Houston. Buchanon, a first-round pick in 2002, was traded to Houston from Oakland before last season in exchange for second- and third-round picks in the 2006 draft. Coach Gary Kubiak said he expected Buchanon to step up when Demarcus Faggins fractured his foot in training camp. That didn't happen. "When Faggins went down, Phillip had the opportunity to become a starting cornerback," Kubiak said. "Unfortunately, he got hurt and missed most of training camp. Then he got hurt in the first game. He had trouble staying on the field. But we wish him well."
Analysis: He rarely played on defense this season after suffering from a laundry list of minor injuries, including a sprained ankle and bruised ribs. He didn't make a tackle until this week, when he had two while briefly filling in for Dunta Robinson, who had cramps. The move clears a roster spot for linebacker Kailee Wong, who has been on the physically-unable-to-perform list recovering from knee surgery.
News: Texans CB Phillip Buchanon (ankle) remains out indefinitely. He continues to be reevaluated, but will not likely be back by Sunday vs. Washington. WR Edell Shepherd will continue to return kicks and punts while Buchanon remains out with his injury.
Analysis: Buchanon missing another week is the last thing the Texans already struggling defense needs. Keep Buchanon reserved in all IDP formats until word comes down that he is ready to return to the field.
News: Here are the inactives for the Texans in Week 2 as Indianapolis: CB Philip Buchanon, CB Demarcus Faggins, LB Roy Manning, TE Bennie Joppru, WR Derrick Lewis and DT Alfred Malone.
Analysis: Keep these players reserved in Week 2.
News: Texans CB Phillip Buchanon (ankle) is listed as out for Week 2 at Indianapolis.
Analysis: This is a whammy for the Texans since Buchanon is not only a decent DB but also a helper on special teams. He should not be owned in any IDP leagues unless special-teams yardage is rewarded.
News: The Texans are still searching for a kick returner, despite the season opener looming just days away. DB Phillip Buchanon was the leading candidate throughout the preseason. He will definitely return punts for the Texans, and it is not ruled out that he will do kick returns. However, the Texans picked up two players on waivers that might also factor into the kick return duties on Sunday against the Eagles. "One of the reasons we picked up (CB) Roc (Alexander) and (WR Edell) Shepherd is because they have the ability to return," coach Gary Kubiak said. "That's a decision we'll have to make towards the end of the week. They're definitely in the mix. That's part of the reason we picked them up."
Analysis: The Texans DST is not a recommended start against the Eagles this week.
News: The Houston Chronicle reports Phillip Buchanon has been demoted. "We ain't winning right now," Buchanon said. "I'm not making any plays. We had no turnovers. We had no plays. We're not winning. There's nothing positive right now, so sometimes you have to make a change."
Analysis: CB Demarcus Faggins will start in place of Buchanon after the team's bye. Buchanon now has no value in IDP leagues.
News: The Houston Texans have acquired Phillip Buchanon from the Oakland Raiders in exchange for two draft picks, which are reported to be second- and third-round selections.
Analysis: Last season, Buchanon had 50 tackles and three interceptions, one for a touchdown, in 14 games. He missed the final two games with a bruised tailbone.
News: According to the Mercury News, Phillip Buchanon (hamstring) missed Tuesday's practice. Buchanon, who was limited throughout training camp to individual drills, is close to being ready, coach Bill Callahan said. "He's just at a point where he can move, he can run, he can cut, he can plant, but he just can't burst yet," Callahan said. "That's the only thing that's holding him back."
Analysis: Buchanon could emerge as a viable starter in individual defender leagues this season and makes the Raiders defense more appealing.
News: Phillip Buchanon (hamstring) has returned to practices.
Analysis: Buchanon could emerge as a viable starter in individual defender leagues this season.
News: The Contra Costa Times reports Phillip Buchanon (hamstring) is still limited to light individual work in practices.
Analysis: Buchanon will have a chance to make his presence felt in individual defender leagues if he stays healthy.
