News: Jets linebackers Calvin Pace and Bryan Thomas each recorded a sack in Sunday's Week 8 loss to the Dolphins. Pace and Thomas each took down the Miami quarterback in the game. Thomas had four tackles and two for losses and Pace finished with four tackles with one for a loss. Each player had three solo tackles.
Analysis: Thomas now has two sacks on the season for the Jets to go with just nine tackles. Thomas is not a major tackling option and therefore has low-end value in IDP formats. The Jets are on bye Week 9 and return Week 10 at Seattle.
News: The Jets resigned linebacker Bryan Thomas and wide receiver Patrick Turner Monday, while waiving defensive lineman Marcus Dixon and cornerback Donnie Fletcher.
Analysis: None of these players are expected to make a significant impact any time soon, so you can leave them off all Fantasy rosters until further notice.
News: The Jets released linebacker Bryan Thomas Saturday, reports the New York Daily News. Thomas was on the injury report for Week 3 at Miami with a hamstring injury. He was questionable.
Analysis: Thomas is now definitely not playing Week 3 as the Jets released him in a surprise move. Thomas was injured in the opener. Thomas has one tackle this season and has almost zero Fantasy value at this time in IDP formats.
News: Jets linebacker Bryan Thomas left the team's Week 1 matchup against Buffalo early in the first quarter with an apparent hamstring injury. Turner, who did not record a tackle prior to departing, is considered questionable to return.
Analysis: Thomas, the Jets' longest-tenured player, mustered only four games last season after suffering a torn Achilles tendon. He also dealt with an ankle issue during the first week of practice and should be avoided in all Fantasy formats at this point even when healthy.
News: The Jets officially placed LB Bryan Thomas on season-ending injured reserve on Saturday. Thomas tore his left Achilles' tendon in the club's 34-17 loss at Baltimore last Sunday. The team singed LB Eddie Jones off the practice squad to take his place on the 53-man roster.
Analysis: Thomas is the team's longest tenured player and had 14 tackles prior to getting hurt. Now that his season is officially over, owners should go ahead and drop the veteran in all season formats.
News: The New York Post reports Jets LB Bryan Thomas is out for the season after tearing his left Achilles' tendon in Week 4 against the Ravens. It is expected that Jamaal Westerman and Aaron Maybin will fill his absence at left outside linebacker.
Analysis: Thomas' loss is bigger for the Jets than Fantasy owners. He posted modest numbers on defense and had very low-end Fantasy appeal to begin with.
News: Jets LB Bryan Thomas left Sunday night's game against Baltimore with an ankle injury. He was scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday, according to Jets RapidReporter Lisa Zimmerman.
Analysis: Thomas finished with one pass defended before leaving on Sunday and has 10 tackles through four games this season. Healthy or not, Thomas should be ignored in all Fantasy IDP leagues at this point.
News: Jets LB Bryan Thomas left Week 4 against the Ravens due to an ankle injury. He left the stadium on crutches.
Analysis: Thomas finished with one pass defended before leaving on Sunday and has 10 tackles through four games this season. Healthy or not, Thomas should be ignored in all Fantasy IDP leagues at this point.
News: Jets LB Bryan Thomas had just one tackle in Week 15 against the Steelers, but it was a sack of Ben Roethlisberger. He now has 36 tackles and five sacks on the year. New York would end up beating Pittsburgh, 22-17, on Sunday.
Analysis: Despite getting another sack in Week 15, Thomas didn't do anything else for New York or Fantasy owners. That's why Thomas should be ignored in all Fantasy IDP leagues for the remainder of the season.
News: Jets LB Bryan Thomas recorded three tackles, two solo, and one sack in Week 14 against the Dolphins. It was his first sack in three games. New York would lose to Miami, 10-6.
Analysis: Thomas has 35 tackles and four sacks on the year. Even with his forced fumble, Thomas is not a player to be owned in any Fantasy IDP league. Continue to ignore the former UAB Blazer.
News: Jets LB Bryan Thomas only has two tackles in Week 2 against the Patriots but was slowed by a leg injury during the second half of the game.
Analysis: Thomas led the Jets with seven tackles and had one-and-a-half sacks in Week 1 but was pretty much a non-factor against the Patriots. His injury does not appear to be too serious as he was able to re-enter the game. Thomas is a low-end option in IDP Fantasy leagues right now but could have a breakout performance against the Dolphins in Week 3.
News: Although LB Bryan Thomas led the Jets with seven tackles and had one-and-a-half sacks in Week 1 against the Ravens, the 10-9 loss negated any satisfaction. "It's heartbreaking to come out in the first game of the season -- first game in the new stadium -- and get a loss," he said. Thomas also had a pass deflection.
Analysis: Thomas had a monster first game and was able to attack the line of scrimmage. Perhaps the attention given to the other studs on the Jets defense allowed the former UAB Blazer to excel. If he is able to have a similar performance against the Patriots in Week 2, Thomas will become a sleeper in Fantasy IDP leagues.
News: Jets LB Bart Scott (eight tackles, sack), LB Calvin Pace (six tackles), DL Shaun Ellis (five tackles, 1 1/2 sacks), LB David Harris (five tackles, sack), DL Sione Pouha (five tackles), DL Marques Douglas (five tackles, sack), DB Jim Leonhard (four tackles, half a sack), DL Howard Green (two sackles, half a sack) and LB Bryan Thomas (two tackles, half a sack) all had solid outings in a Week 8 loss to the Dolphins.
Analysis: Harris is an elite LB in all Fantasy IDP formats, while Pace and Scott have solid value in deeper formats. Ellis and Leonhard are barely worth owning in deeper leagues, while Pouha, Douglas, Green and Thomas are non-factors. All of these guys should be benched in Week 9 as the Jets are on a bye.
News: Jets LB Bryan Thomas was listed as probable for the team's Week 1 game against the Texans. Thomas was able to participate in practice in full all week.
Analysis: Thomas was dealing with a shoulder injury toward the end of last season and currently is dealing with an ankle issue. When healthy, think of Thomas as a low-end option in IDP formats.
News: DL Bryan Thomas has been listed as questionable for Week 16 with a shoulder injury.
Analysis: Thomas is a lower-end end option in Fantasy leagues as he is not the stud he was once thought to possibly be. Bench him if you can as he is not putting up big numbers even before getting injured.
News: Jets DL Bryan Thomas had four tackles (three solo) and one sack during a Week 4 win against the Cardinals. Thomas now has four sacks in four games.
Analysis: Thomas has been a good fit as a hybrid DL/LB for Eric Magini's 3-4 scheme since 2006. He had just 2 1/2 sacks last season, but he is capable of being a force up front. Consider Thomas a solid Fantasy option in leagues where you can start him as a DL.
News: After recording two sacks in the opener against Miami, Jets DL Bryan Thomas recorded another sack Week 2 against the Patriots. He finished with eight tackles and two quarterback hits.
News: Jets DL Bryan Thomas had three tackles and two sacks in Week 1 at Miami. Thomas led the Jets in sacks.
Analysis: Thomas only had 2.5 sacks last year but this is a good start for him this year. Consider Thomas a low-end No. 3 DL in Week 2 against the Patriots and hope for more outings like this.
News: Jets DL Bryan Thomas had 8.5 sacks in 2006 to lead the Jets, but his sack total fell to 2.5 in 2007. His tackles also went from 77 in 2006 to 47 last year. Thomas also added one forced fumble.
Analysis: Thomas has minimal Fantasy value, especially if he's not sacking the passer. Don't plan on drafting him in 2008 but keep an eye on his production during the year to see if his Fantasy value could rise.
News: Jets LB Victor Hobson (five tackles), DB David Barrett (four tackles), DL C.J. Mosley (three tackles, forced fumble) and DL Bryan Thomas (sack, forced fumble) all helped out with nice contributions in a 40-13 rout of the Dolphins in Week 13.
Analysis: None of these players have anything more than minimal Fantasy value and should not be starting in Week 14 against the Browns in any IDP formats.
News: Jets DL Bryan Thomas had three tackles and a half-sack Sunday against the Eagles.
Analysis: Thomas is a low-end DL in IDP leagues and should only be used in Week 7 against the Bengals if needed.
News: DL Bryan Thomas (eight tackles), DB Erik Coleman (seven tackles), DB Kerry Rhodes (six tackles), DB Darrelle Revis (six tackles), DL Dewayne Robertson (six tackles) and LB Eric Barton all had major defensive contributions in the Jets' 20-13 loss to the Ravens in Week 2.
Analysis: Rhodes and Coleman are the only players with any decent value in IDP leagues, while the rest have minimal impact. The Jets host Miami in Week 3.
News: Jets RB James Hodgins (knee), DB David Barrett (hip), DB Andre Dyson (knee), DL Dewayne Robertson (knee), RB B.J. Askew (foot) and DB Kerry Rhodes (knee) are questionable, while DB Eric Smith (foot), DL Bryan Thomas (shoulder) and LB Matt Chatham (personal) are probable for Wild Card game at New England.
Analysis: None of these players should be used in Fantasy postseason play.
News: Jets RB James Hodgins (knee), DB Eric Smith (foot), DB Kerry Rhodes (knee), RB B.J. Askew (foot), DB Andre Dyson (knee) and DB David Barrett (hip) are questionable, while LB Matt Chatham (foot), QB Patrick Ramsey (calf), DL Bryan Thomas (shoulder) and DL Rashard Moore (hamd) are listed as probable for Week 17 vs. Oakland.
Analysis: Only Rhodes, Dyson and Thomas should be used in Fantasy leagues for Week 17. Ignore the other injured players.
News: Bryan Thomas (shoulder) is not among the inactives for Week 16 at Miami.
Analysis: Thomas is a decent low-end linebacker option in IDP Fantasy leagues for Week 17 against Oakland.
News: Victor Hobson and Bryan Thomas are spending a lot more time in opponents' backfields these days, making quarterbacks antsy when they play the New York Jets. The Jets have 12 sacks in their last four games, including 4 1/2 by Thomas and three by Hobson. The pass rush has come on during the team's playoff push after being highly criticized earlier in the season for giving quarterbacks too much time to make plays. Thomas leads the Jets with 7 1/2 sacks.
Analysis: Consider the Jets a No. 2 DST for Week 16 against Miami. Use Hobson and Thomas in leagues where needed.
News: The Jets' weekly laundry list of nicked up players include: FB B.J. Askew (foot), CB David Barrett (hip), WR Laveranues Coles (back), RB Cedric Houston (calf), LB Anthony Schlegel (illness), DB Eric Smith (foot), RB Kevan Barlow (calf), LB Matt Chatham (foot), WR Justin McCareins (foot), DL Rashad Moore (hand), QB Chad Pennington (calf), DE/LB Bryan Thomas (shoulder), DB Jamie Thompson (ankle) and WR Wallace Wright (thigh). Askew, Barrett, Coles, Houston, Schlegel and Smith are questionable and did not practice on Wednesday; the rest of the gang did practice on Wednesday and are listed as probable.
Analysis: Outside of Pennington, Coles and Houston, not many of these guys have a significant role in Fantasy play and shouldn't be active for use in Week 16 at Miami.
News: The Jets' weekly laundry list of nicked up players include: FB B.J. Askew (foot), CB David Barrett (hip), LB Matt Chatham (foot), DB Eric Smith (foot), DE/LB Bryan Thomas (shoulder), RB Kevan Barlow (calf), LB Brad Kassell (shin), WR Justin McCareins (foot), DL Rashad Moore (hand), QB Chad Pennington (calf), DL Dewayne Robertson (shoulder), TE Sean Ryan (thigh), WR Brad Smith (shoulder) DB Jamie Thompson (ankle) and DL Kimo von Oelhoffen (shoulder). Askew, Barrett, Chatham, Smith and Thomas are questionable and did not practice on Wednesday; the rest of the gang did practice on Wednesday and are listed as probable.
Analysis: Outside of Pennington, not many of these guys have a significant role in Fantasy play. Barlow and McCareins are fringe longshots to get minimal stats in Week 15 since the Jets will likely pass early and often against the Vikings. Otherwise, ignore the rest of this group.
News: Bryan Thomas (shoulder) was able to play in Week 14 against the Bills. He had one solo tackle which was a sack and he assisted on three other stops.
Analysis: Thomas is only considered a decent low-end Fantasy option in IDP leagues for Week 15 at Minnesota.
News: Jets RB B.J. Askew (foot), DB David Barrett (hip), LB Matt Chatham (foot), DB Eric Smith (foot), DL Bryan Thomas (shoulder) and DB Rashad Washington (illness) are questionable, while DB Andre Dyson (thigh), DL Shaun Ellis (ankle), WR Justin McCareins (foot), DL Rashad Moore (hand) and WR Brad Smith (shoulder) are listed as probable for Week 14 vs. Buffalo.
Analysis: Thomas, Dyson and Ellis could all be used as low-end Fantasy options for Week 14. The other injured players are not recommended Fantasy options in IDP leagues.
News: Notable Jets defenders from Week 13 at Green Bay include: LB Victor Hobson (13 total tackles), CB Hank Poteat (seven total tackles), FS Erik Coleman (eight total tackles), DE Shaun Ellis (six total tackles, one-half sack), DE/LB Bryan Thomas (five total tackles, 1.5 sacks, forced fumble) and LB Jonathan Vilma (five total tackles). SS Kerry Rhodes and CB Andre Dyson each had one sack.
Analysis: Of these players, Vilma, Coleman, Rhodes and Thomas are reliable Fantasy options when the Jets host the Bills in Week 14.
News: The Jets have signed DE/LB Bryan Thomas to a contract extension, keeping him in green through 2011. "Bryan's approach and hard work both on the field and in the classroom earned him this opportunity," head coach Eric Mangini said. "He's done everything we've asked of him and he exemplifies the type of player we want on defense. Bryan is a versatile player who we can count on each week to make plays."
Analysis: Thomas is at best a reserve option in Fantasy play, though he could earn a bigger role with the Jets in years to come.
News: Jets RB B.J. Askew (foot), DB David Barrett (hip), WR Tim Dwight (thigh), DL Rashad Moore (hand), DB Eric Smith (foot) and DL Bryan Thomas (shoulder) are questionable, while LB Matt Chatham (foot), DB Andre Dyson (neck), WR Justin McCareins (foot) and DL Dewayne Robertson (foot) are listed as probable for Week 13 at Green Bay.
Analysis: Thomas should be the only player worth using for Fantasy purposes in Week 13. All the other injured players are not recommended Fantasy options at this time.
News: Notable Jets defenders from Week 10 include: SS Kerry Rhodes (nine total tackles), FS Erik Coleman (eight total tackles, interception), CB Andre Dyson (seven total tackles) and LB Jonathan Vilma (six total tackles). DE Shaun Ellis, DT Dewayne Robertson, DE Kimo von Oelhoffen and LB/DE Bryan Thomas each had a sack.
Analysis: Of these defenders, Rhodes, Coleman, Vilma and Ellis are reliable to use in Fantasy IDP league play, with Vilma and Rhodes as weekly must-starts. All of the Jets' key defenders should be strong options vs. Chicago in Week 11.
News: The Browns racked up 267 total yards against the Jets in Week 8, but did a majority of the damage on the ground with 147 yards. The Jets defense managed to get three sacks (LB Eric Barton, LB/DL Bryan Thomas, Drew Coleman) and one interception (DB Eric Smith). Barton led the team with 10 tackles. The Jets DST got a boost thanks to Justin Miller, who returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. His second kickoff return for a touchdown this season and his third in the past nine games dating back to last season.
Analysis: The Jets DST has not been a Fantasy favorite in 2006. The Jets often have to outscore their opponents to win as the defense struggles to learn the 3-4 defense. They are usually not a recommended Fantasy DST. Barton and Thomas are suitable Fantasy IDP options. Miller is definitely worth adding to your team if you are in a league that rewards heavily for return yards. The Jets are on a bye in Week 9.
News: Bryan Thomas has heard it all during his four-plus seasons with the New York Jets. He has been called an underachiever, a career backup and, even worse, a first-round bust. "In the beginning of my career, I struggled a lot and there was a lot that I didn't know," Thomas said. Things certainly have changed. During a season in which some players have struggled to adjust to new coach Eric Mangini's switch from a 4-3 to 3-4 defensive scheme, Thomas has looked right at home playing defensive end and linebacker. Thomas is fourth on the team with 37 total tackles, including 11 last Sunday against Miami, and has been one of the few Jets who have been consistently effective against the run.
Analysis: Thomas is a decent NFL player, but his Fantasy status lies with his eligibility. If it is at LB in your IDP league, he is OK but not great. But if he has DE eligibility, since he plays in a 3-4 scheme, he gets a ton of tackles and makes for a great Fantasy DE. Consider these options when putting Thomas on your active roster.
News: The Jets defeated the Dolphins 20-17 in Week 6, but were outgained 395-272. The Jets defense did intercept Dolphins QB Joey Harrington twice and recover a fumble. LB Victor Hobson had three tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery. DE/LB Bryan Thomas led the team with 11 tackles followed by DB Kerry Rhodes eight.
Analysis: The Jets defense have suffered at times this season trying to adjust to a 3-4 scheme under new head coach Eric Mangini. Consider the Jets DST a No. 2 option heading into Week 7. The Jets play the Lions. Rhodes is a legit No. 1 Fantasy DB in IDP leagues. Thomas is a decent player depending on his Fantasy eligibility. If it is at LB, he is OK but not great. But if he has DE eligibility, since he plays in a 3-4 scheme, he gets a ton of tackles and makes for a great Fantasy DE. Hobson should only be used as a reserve LB in the deepest of IDP leagues.
News: Thomas (hamstring) was unable to play at San Diego Sunday.
Analysis: Thomas and the Jets are on a bye in Week 3 before playing at Miami in Week 4.
News: Head coach Herman Edwards said Thomas suffered a strained left hamstring and is expected to miss at least two weeks.
Analysis: Thomas has minimal Fantasy appeal in individual defender leagues when healthy.
News: The New York Daily News reports that Bryan Thomas returned to practice Tuesday after missing a week with a sprained ankle.
Analysis: Thomas is a useful weekly starter in individual defensive leagues.
News: Thomas hurt his ankle Saturday against Tampa Bay in Japan. Thomas will likely miss a week of practice, according to Newsday.
Analysis: Thomas could be ready to breakout this season. Consider drafting Thomas in the late rounds of individual defender league drafts.
