News: Atlanta K Matt Bryant simply was not needed on Sunday in the NFC Wild Card game loss at New York against the Giants. The Falcons dropped the game and were eliminated from the playoffs 24-2 on Sunday. Bryant never came out onto the field for a field goal or extra point attempt. He finished with zero points in the game. Bryant's season is now officially over.
Analysis: Bryant did not have a single game like Sunday's Wild Card contest during the entire regular season as his worst effort saw him record at least two Fantasy points. Bryant went 27 of 29 on field goals during the regular season and did not miss a single extra point in 45 tries. He'll enter next year as an adequate Fantasy kicker for all formats as the Falcons are expected to be a high-scoring team next year.
News: Atlanta K Matt Bryant booted one field goal and six extra points during the Falcons' 45-24 victory over Tampa Bay in Week 17. Bryant connected on a 20-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.
Analysis: Bryant's six extra points established a season high as Atlanta scored six unanswered touchdowns in the first half. He missed only two field goals during the regular season and remains a solid Fantasy K option heading into the postseason.
News: Falcons K Matt Bryant was spot-on during the Monday night loss in New Orleans in the Week 16 game. Bryant nailed a 34-yard field goal in the first quarter to put the Falcons up 3-0. Bryant then nailed a 51-yard field goal in the third quarter as he helped bring the Falcons back to 28-13 in a game the Saints would win. He finished out with a 30-yard FG in the fourth quarter. Bryant ended the game going 3 for 3 on field goals with an extra point for a total of 10 points scored.
Analysis: Bryant has finished the season strong for Atlanta and a lot of that has to do with how well the Falcons have been playing. The team is headed to the playoffs, but needs to keep winning in order to gain a higher playoff seeding. That means the team will look to keep scoring Week 17 against Tampa Bay. Bryant managed seven points against the Buccaneers Week 3 as he went 2 for 2 on field goals and managed just one extra point. The Falcons should put up more points Week 17, so Fantasy owners can consider Bryant a solid start in any Fantasy format.
News: Atlanta kicker Matt Bryant got plenty of action in Week 15 as the Falcons beat the Jaguars, 41-14. Bryant connected on field goals from 33 and 31 yards. He also hit all five of his extra-point attempts, even though one was partially blocked, but somehow made it over the upright.
Analysis: Bryant was sick entering the contest, but managed to pull through and go perfect on the day. The Falcons face the Saints in Week 16, so that came could come down to the wire and Bryant's services will likely be needed. Fantasy owners should consider him a viable kicking option moving forward.
News: Atlanta kicker Matt Bryant was active on Thursday night as the Falcons hosted the Jaguars. He was sick during the week leading into the game.
Analysis: Atlanta hopes Bryant is healthy enough to make a contribution if he's called on. Fantasy owners should start him with caution though as he's not an elite kicking option.
News: After scoring a combined 10 points in his previous two games, Falcons K Matt Bryant contributed seven Week 14 at Carolina. Four came on extra points. He also kicked a 30-yard field goal in the third quarter. He could have had a 46-yard field goal two drives later, but it was wide left.
Analysis: The seven-point effort is an improvement for Bryant, but it's still nothing like the 11- and 12-point games he was putting together earlier in the season. The Falcons have a consistent enough offense that he'll rarely ruin you in Fantasy, but he's not in double digits as often as some kickers. He's a serviceable option for Week 15 against the Jaguars.
News: Falcons K Matt Bryant, who had only six points Week 12 against the Vikings after scoring 11 in three of the team's previous four games, had only four Week 13 at Houston. He hit a 19-yard field goal in the second quarter and also had an extra point in the contest.
Analysis: The Falcons had been on a roll offensively, which is why Bryant had emerged as such a valuable Fantasy K, but they hit a wall against the Texans' high-powered defense. They should be able to get back on track Week 14 at Carolina, though, so keep Bryant active as a No. 1 Fantasy K.
News: Falcons K Matt Bryant, who had kicked three field goals in three of his previous four games, kicked only one against the Vikings in Week 12. It was a 37-yarder. He also kicked three extra points. The six points were his fewest since he had two against the Packers in Week 5.
Analysis: Bryant was one of the most prolific kickers in Fantasy last year and had begun to look like it again this year, scoring 11 points in three of his previous four games. One mediocre performance isn't enough for you to give up on him as a No. 1 Fantasy K. The Falcons visit the Texans in Week 13.
News:Matt Bryant had another productive performance for the Falcons in Week 11 against the Titans. He made all three of his field goal attempts and converted two extra points in the 23-17 win. He connected from 19, 24 and 33 yards.
Analysis: Bryant has made 18 of 19 field goals so far this season while going a perfect 25 for 25 in PATs. He has recorded a double-digit performance on three of the last four games and should continue to produce for owners. Continue to roll with Bryant as a No. 1 Fantasy K for Week 12 against the Vikings.
News: Falcons K Matt Bryant, who had connected on 14 consecutive field goals to begin the season, finally missed one -- a 41-yarder -- just before the half Week 10 against the Saints. He still had a good performance overall, though, nailing three field goals -- a 36-yarder, a 29-yarder and a 27-yarder -- and two extra points. It was his third game with 10-plus points this season.
Analysis: Bryant was one of the top kickers in Fantasy last season, and he's getting back to that standard this season, rebounding from a sluggish start to average 8.3 points over his last six games. He's not a no-brainer in Fantasy, but he's certainly a serviceable option when the Falcons host the Titans in Week 11.
News: Falcons K Matt Bryant, who kicked three field goals in the Falcons' win at Detroit in Week 7, had only one -- a 20-yarder -- at Indianapolis in Week 9. He did finish with seven points, though, thanks to four extra points.
Analysis: Bryant got off to a slow start this season, but he has now scored at least seven points in three straight games. As goes the Falcons offense, so goes Bryant, and the offense seems to be moving in the right direction with the resurgence of Michael Turner and the return of Julio Jones. Bryant remains a viable starter in Fantasy for Week 10 against the Saints.
News: Falcons K Matt Bryant, who had one field goal in his previous two games combined, kicked three Week 7 at Detroit -- a 23-yarder, a 40-yarder and a 47-yarder. He also kicked two extra points. The 11-point effort was just his second double-digit performance of the season.
Analysis: Bryant was an elite kicker in Fantasy last season but has struggled with the ups and downs of the Falcons offense this season. Sunday's performance was a step in the right direction. The Falcons are on bye in Week 8, so you have no reason to bother with Bryant right now, but he could be worth using again in the majority of Fantasy leagues for Week 9 at Indianapolis.
News: Falcons K Matt Bryant, who scored only two points against the Packers in Week 5, bounced back with seven against the Panthers in Week 6. He had a 24-yard field goal and four extra points.
Analysis: The Falcons have had an inconsistent offense this season, which has made Bryant an inconsistent kicker for Fantasy purposes. Only once this season has he scored more than seven points, and that was when he had 12 at Seattle in Week 4. Bryant was a top Fantasy kicker last year and has the potential to get back there, but until the Falcons show a little more consistency on offense, he's more of a No. 2 Fantasy option. The Falcons visit the Lions in Week 7.
News: Falcons K Matt Bryant did not attempt a field goal in Week 5 against the Packers. He converted two extra points in the 25-14 loss.
Analysis: Bryant has not attempted a field goal in two of the five games so far this season but has gone a perfect 11 for 11 in PATs. With a potent offense in Atlanta, he should see better games so continue to view the 36-year-old as a viable option in the majority of Fantasy leagues heading into Week 6 against the Panthers.
News: Atlanta K Matt Bryant kicked three field goals, the second of which gave the Falcons a 20-point lead in the third, during the Falcons' 30-28 win over Seattle in Week 4 on Sunday. He also converted all three extra-point attempts to finish with double-digits in points for the first time this year.
Analysis: Bryant remained perfect as he nailed a season-high three field goals during the Falcons' narrow victory. The veteran kicker is now 7 for 7 this season as he remains a solid Fantasy option in Atlanta prolific offense. Consider him a top option in Week 5 against Green Bay.
News: Atlanta K Matt Bryant connected on both field-goal attempts and his lone extra point during the Falcons' 16-13 loss to Tampa Bay in Week 3 on Sunday. Bryant booted field goals of 26 and 33 yards and is now a perfect 4 for 4 in the early part of the season.
Analysis: A week after he did not register a field-goal attempt, Bryant was busy in the muddy field conditions in Tampa. Bryant has still only played one of his three games at home this season in the Georgia Dome so his pace could improve. Consider him a top option for Week 4 at Seattle.
News: Falcons K Matt Bryant did not attempt a field goal in Week 2 against the Eagles but converted all five of his extra points in the 35-31 win.
Analysis: Bryant should see a ton of scoring opportunities kicking for a potent offense in Atlanta so consider him a viable option in all Fantasy leagues in Week 3 against the Buccaneers.
News: In the Falcons Week 1 game at Chicago, PK Matt Bryant hit both field goal attempts from 25 and 48 yards out. He didn't attempt an extra point.
Analysis: Bryant might be just as limited next week against the Eagles. Don't be married to him as your Week 2 kicker.
News: Atlanta signed K Matt Bryant to a four-year contract Saturday, bringing the veteran back for his third season with the Falcons. The 10-year veteran made 28 of 31 field-goal attempts last season, including three game-winning kicks. He joined the Falcons late in the 2009 season after Jason Elam was released.
Analysis: Bryant has played for five teams over his NFL career, and Atlanta expressed interest in bringing back of the top kickers in 2010. The 36-year-old has nailed a season-long 51-yard field goal in back-to-back years and is a reliable Fantasy option. With most of his games indoors and the Falcons possessing a high-powered offense, Bryant should be considered a No. 1 Fantasy K in all 2011 drafts.
News: According to ESPN.com, Falcons kicker Matt Bryant is frustrated that the lockout is lingering. Its understandable because Bryant, who had a great 2010 season, long ago should have had a new contract. He should know where hes going to have his family settled when a big event comes in the fall. But, like a lot of other players out there, Bryant has no clue whats going on. I can do all the research in the world, Bryant said. What I say or do isnt going to fix the problem. But I just want to understand why my childhood dream and the way I make my living is in such jeopardy. Unless something happens very quickly, Bryants going to have to make a very difficult decision soon. Hes a free agent and, although the Falcons have said theyd like to re-sign him and his preference is to remain in Atlanta, no deal was reached before the lockout and theres no guarantee one will be reached if and when it is lifted.
Analysis: Bryant was among one of the best kickers in the league in 2010 and as such he'll find himself as a hot commodity this offseason as a free agent if the Falcons let him leave. Bryant nailed 28 of 31 field goals (all but one were from 49 yards or less) and hit 44 extra points. Consider Bryant a reliable leg worth picking in the last round of your Fantasy draft, and he has the potential to be the No. 1 overall kicker in 2011 if he stays in Atlanta. The Falcons have a high-potent offense and play the most indoor games of any team.
News: Atlanta K Matt Bryant nailed three extra-points and didn't attempt a field goal in the Falcons' 48-21 loss to Green Bay in an NFC Divisional Playoff game on Saturday night. It was just the third time this season Bryant had not tried a field goal.
Analysis: Bryant has been a reliable option in the high-scoring Falcons' offense and converted at least three extra-points for the fifth time in his last six games. Bryant has finished with more than 115 points in three of the last four seasons but this year was his first such effort with Atlanta (131). He will again be one of the first kickers selected in 2011 Fantasy drafts, especially in the talented Falcons offense.
News: Falcons K Matt Bryant kicked one field goal and four extra points in Week 17 against the Panthers. Bryant hit a 47-yard field goal in the third quarter -- his ninth conversion this season from 40-plus yards.
Analysis: Bryant had another solid season in 2010. He kicked 28 of 31 field goals and nailed all 44 of his extra points. The Falcons ended up with the best record in the NFC and Bryant got plenty of scoring chances all season. We expect much the same from Bryant and the Falcons in 2011, so he will be a viable Fantasy kicker, worth drafting in the late rounds.
News: Falcons K Matt Bryant did not see many opportunities in Week 16 against the Saints. He did not attempt a field goal but converted two PATs, finishing with two points in the 17-14 loss.
Analysis: Bryant had his lowest-scoring performance of the year on Monday night as the Saints did a solid job of shutting down the Falcons potent offense. Fantasy owners have to be disappointed with his output, especially since he posted 10 points a week ago, but he should be able to bounce back next week against the Panthers. Atlanta dropped 31 points on Carolina when the division foes met earlier in the year so continue to view Bryant as a solid Fantasy option in all leagues for Week 17.
News: Atlanta kicker Matt Bryant was spotless in Week 15, connecting on both field-goal attempts and four extra-point tries in the Falcons' 34-18 victory over Seattle on Sunday. Bryant, who connected on field goals of 27 and 25 yards, recorded double digits in Fantasy points for the fourth game this season.
Analysis: Bryant is seeing plenty of work in the Falcons' high-scoring offense. Sunday was the fourth consecutive game he has nailed four extra-point attempts. He has also attempted a field goal in every game but one this season as the Falcons improved to 12-2. Consider him a solid kicker in Atlanta's Week 16 showdown against New Orleans.
News: Falcons K Matt Bryant, who went without a field goal for the first time all season last week, had only one -- a 39-yarder -- Week 14 at Carolina. He did kick four extra points, though, giving him seven or more points in 11 of 13 games this season.
Analysis: Playing for the high-scoring Falcons, Bryant is about as consistent as Fantasy kickers come. He has multiple field goals in nine of 13 games this season, which is pretty much all it takes for him to matter in Fantasy. Extra points are just, well, extra. Keep Bryant active in all Fantasy leagues when the Falcons visit the Seahawks in Week 15.
News: Atlanta K Matt Bryant converted all four of his extra point attempts in Week 13 against Tampa Bay. He did not attempt a field goal, but his team would rally to beat the Buccaneers 28-24, winning their sixth straight game.
Analysis: Bryant didn't do much against his former team, but a win over them has to be sweet. On the year Bryant has nailed all 30 of his extra point attempts and converted 24 of his 27 field goal attempts. With his team rolling and facing the Panthers in Week 14, Fantasy owners should keep him active. He's consistent and Carolina isn't very good defensively, so the Falcons could have a field day.
News: Falcons K Matt Bryant hit two field goals -- a 38-yarder and a game-winning 47-yarder late in the fourth quarter -- Week 12 against the Packers. He also had two extra points. He has scored at least eight points in nine of 11 games this season.
Analysis: Bryant has hit at least two field goals in nine of 11 games this season -- the same nine in which he has scored at least eight points, not so coincidentally. The Falcons have one of the more consistent offenses in football, making Bryant a gem in Fantasy. The opportunities should keep coming for him, so keep him active Week 13 at Tampa Bay.
News: Falcons K Matt Bryant had a very busy game in Week 11 against the Rams. He made four field goals and connected on two PATs in the 34-17 win. Bryant connected from 42, 29, 24 and 21. He would have had another PAT but Atlanta elected to go for the 2-point conversion on their final score.
Analysis: Bryant had his highest-scoring game of the year in Week 11 and has made 22 of his 25 field-goal attempts so far this season. Playing for one of the higher-scoring offenses in the league definitely helps out his Fantasy value and he could be in for another big performance next week when Green Bay comes to town. Seeing as that game could be a shootout, continue to view Brant as a No. 1 Fantasy K heading into Week 12.
News: Falcons K Matt Bryant booted a pair of field goals in Week 10 against the Ravens. Bryant made the score 10-0 with a 28-yard field goal in the second quarter. He then pushed the lead to 13-0 with a 51-yarder in the third. Bryant also made both of his PATs for an eight-point night. Bryant has had less than seven points in just one of nine games this season.
Analysis: The Falcons are one of the best teams in football and are giving Bryant plenty of chances to put points on the board. He has made two or more field goals in seven games this season. Bryant is a legit No. 1 Fantasy kicker. The Falcons play the Rams in Week 11.
News: Falcons K Matt Bryant, who hit only one field goal in each of his last two games after hitting multiple field goals in each of his first five, hit two against the Buccaneers in Week 9 -- a 31-yarder and a 41-yarder. He also hit three extra points.
Analysis: Bryant has scored at least eight points in six of eight games this season. He seems to be in an ideal situation for a kicker with the 6-2 Falcons. Now that he's back on track, you should treat him as a No. 1 Fantasy K against the Ravens in Week 10.
News: For the second straight week, Falcons K Matt Bryant hit only one field goal Week 7 against the Bengals, though it was a 45-yarder. He also hit four extra points, giving him seven points or more in six of seven games this season.
Analysis: Bryant hasn't gotten as many opportunities over the last couple weeks, but he's still one of the more consistent kickers in Fantasy. The Falcons offense is good enough to put him in range but not so good that he never gets chances. You'll need to look for another option in Week 8, when the Falcons are on bye, but you'll want to have him active again for Week 9 against the Buccaneers.
News: Falcons K Matt Bryant, who had scored at least eight points in each of his first five games, scored only five at Philadelphia in Week 6, hitting a 26-yard field goal and two extra points. He also a missed a field goal -- a 41-yarder that hit the upright in the first quarter.
Analysis: At least the Falcons gave Bryant the opportunity for another respectable Fantasy performance. If he had hit that field goal, he once again would have finished with eight points. He's still one of the more reliable kickers in Fantasy, playing for an offense that rarely has trouble moving the ball but doesn't always get in the end zone either. Keep him active for Week 7 against the Bengals.
News: Falcons K Matt Bryant, who scored no less than nine points in any of his first four games, fell short of that number Week 5 at Cleveland, but not by much. He made two field goals -- a 24-yarder and a 30-yarder -- and two extra points, finishing with eight points. He had a chance for more points but had a 30-yard attempt blocked in the second quarter.
Analysis: Bryant could have easily finished with 11 points, which would have given him a total of 50 in five games. As it is, he has 47, which is still awfully good. The Falcons have a good offense but sometimes struggle to get the ball in the end zone, putting Bryant in position for big-time numbers. He remains a No. 1 Fantasy option Week 6 at Philadelphia.
News: Falcons K Matt Bryant had another big game Week 4 against the 49ers, kicking three field goals -- a 31-yarder, a 37-yarder and a 43-yarder -- and two extra points. He has scored at least nine points in each of his four games this season.
Analysis: The Falcons seem to have the kind of offense that's ideal for kickers -- one that moves the ball well but doesn't always get in the end zone. Unless something changes, Bryant should continue to get plenty of scoring opportunities, making him a little undervalued in Fantasy right now. He's capable of performing like a No. 1 Fantasy K at Cleveland in Week 5.
News: Falcons kicker Matt Bryant led Atlanta to a victory at New Orleans on Sunday with his game-winning field goal in overtime. Bryant made two field goals and three extra points, but it was his 46-yard field goal in overtime that gave Atlanta a 27-24 victory. His other field goal was from 23 yards in the third quarter.
Analysis: Bryant now has seven field goals on the season and is playing at a high level with an explosive offense. Look for him to continue to play well, and we consider him a No. 1 Fantasy kicker in Week 4 against the 49ers.
News: Falcons kicker Matt Bryant hit five extra points and two field goals in Week 2 vs. Arizona, notching kicks from 24 and 35 yards out.
Analysis: Bryant continues to be an impressive source of points for Fantasy owners to consider. He's hit five field goals in two weeks and should continue to see opportunities. Consider him in Week 3 when the Falcons play at the Saints.
News: Falcons K Matt Bryant provided all of his team's points during a Week 1 loss to the Steelers. Bryant converted three of his four field-goal attempts in a 15-9 loss to Pittsburgh. He hit from 23, 39 and 49 yards. He missed, however, from 46 yards.
Analysis: Bryant won the placekicking job for the Falcons early in the preseason. He showed in Week 1 why he won the competition. He did have a miss, but only one miss in Pittsburgh's stadium is pretty good. The opposing kicker, Jeff Reed, missed two field goals in Week 1. The Falcons should be able to move the ball in 2010, giving Bryant ample scoring chances. He remains a low-end No. 1/high-end No. 2 Fantasy kicker heading into Week 2 against the Cardinals.
News: Falcons K Matt Bryant's feeling some heat after missing an extra point Friday. "We can't miss extra points," coach Mike Smith said. "Fifty-yard field goals are a little more acceptable, but when you miss extra points those things can come back to haunt you." Bryant has been named the team's starter.
Analysis: Bryant is still the team's starting kicker but he needs to tighten the screws or he could lose that job. He replaced Jason Elam last year and finished 2009 7 for 10 on field goals in five games. Bryant has made 81.5 percent of his field goals in his career. The Falcons should get him ample scoring chances, so view Bryant as a low-end No. 1/high-end No. 2 Fantasy kicker.
News: With the release of K Steven Hauschka on Sunday, K Matt Bryant has won the placekicking job in Atlanta. Bryant went 1 for 2, making from 30 yards and missing from 49 yards, during Friday's preseason game against the Chiefs.
Analysis: Bryant replaced a struggling Jason Elam late last season and finished the 2009 campaign by making 7 of 10 field goals in five games. Bryant has made 81.5 percent of his field goals in his career. The Falcons should get him ample scoring chances, so view Bryant as a low-end No. 1/high-end No. 2 Fantasy kicker.
News: Falcons kickers Matt Bryant and Steven Hauschka remain even in their battle for the job after Friday's preseason opener against the Chiefs. They each made 1 of 2 field goal attempts, Bryant making from 30 and missing from 49 yards out, Hauschka good from 37 but hitting the crossbar from 53 yards. Each converted their extra point attempt.
Analysis: Bryant made 7 of 10 field goals with a long of 51 yards after being signed by Atlanta in December. He had a couple of fine seasons for the Buccaneers in 2007 and 2008, so he's a proven veteran. But even if he wins the job, Bryant shouldn't be considered a No. 1 Fantasy K.
News: Falcons kicker Matt Bryant hit two of three field goals and two extra points at the Bucs, his old team, in Week 17.
Analysis: Bryant will try to latch on elsewhere in 2010, making him a potential late-round pick in drafts this summer.
News: The Falcons activated QB Matt Ryan (toe, probable), TE Tony Gonzalez (calf, questionable) and K Matt Bryant (hamstring, questionable) for Week 17 at Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Fantasy owners who were waiting for confirmation these players would play in the season finale could feel comfortable starting them, though only Gonzalez is a must-start from the group.
News: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Falcons PK Matt Bryant (right hamstring) hopes to play in the team's Week 17 game against the Buccaneers. The team signed Steven Hauschka on Tuesday in case Bryant cannot kick on Sunday. Bryant had gone home on Tuesday to attend his father's funeral in Bridge City, Texas.
Analysis: Only consider Hauschka if you're desperate for kicker and if Bryant misses Week 17 with the hamstring injury. There's a chance Hauschka will only work on kickoffs and long field goals. Bryant is just a low-end option if he is able to play.
News: The Falcons have signed former Baltimore Ravens kicker Steve Hauschka. Matt Bryant suffered a hamstring injury in Sunday's win over Buffalo and might miss Week 17. Hauschka was released by Baltimore last month.
Analysis: Only consider Hauschka if you're desperate for kicker and if Bryant misses Week 17 with the hamstring injury. There's a chance Hauschka will only work on kickoffs and long field goals.
News: Atlanta K Matt Bryant went 1 for 2 on field goals in the Week 16 win over Buffalo. He hit from 51 yards out and went 4 for 4 on PATs for a total of seven points in the win. Bryant also injured his hamstring in the game. He remained on to kick PATs and field goals but was not able to finish as the team's kickoff specialist.
Analysis: Bryant has had one solid game in four weeks as the Falcons starting kicker. He really only has low-end Fantasy value. We do not recommend using Bryant Week 17 at Tampa Bay.
News: Falcons K Matt Bryant made a 24-yard field goal and an extra point but missed a 48-yard effort in a 10-7 win over the Jets in Week 15.
Analysis: Bryant had a big outing in Week 14, but couldn't repeat those heroics in Week 15. In Week 16, the Falcons host Buffalo and Bryant will remain just a low-end option in the deepest of Fantasy leagues.
News: Falcons PK Matt Bryant made all three of the field goals he attempted on Sunday in a Week 14 loss to the Saints. Bryant made field goals from 27, 30 and 36 yards out. He also hit both of the extra point tries he attempted.
Analysis: Bryant hit an extra point in his first game of the season Week 13 against Philadelphia but was given many more opportunities against the Saints. The Falcons could struggle to score against a solid Jets defense in Week 15, so think of Bryant as a No. 2 option for that game.
News: New Falcons kicker Matt Bryant, who replaced Jason Elam, had no field goals and one extra point Sunday against the Eagles. Elam was released prior to this game.
Analysis: Bryant is a low-end Fantasy kicker in all leagues. Don't plan on using him in Week 14 against the Saints.
News: The Atlanta Falcons have released kicker Jason Elam and signed veteran Matt Bryant to replace him. Elam, a 17-year veteran and one of the league's most accurate kickers, missed only two kicks last season, his first with the Falcons. But he struggled this year, making only 8 of 15 field goal attempts from at least 30 yards. Bryant was cut from the Bucs this preseason after a hamstring injury didn't heal in time for him to make the final roster.
Analysis: Bryant made 32 of 38 field goals last year with Tampa Bay and has a fairly strong leg. He once hit a 62-yard field goal to win a game for the Buccaneers and has played in the face of personal turmoil, kicking just days after tragically losing his infant son. He's a good option to get off waivers this week if you're hurting at kicker. As for Elam, consider him off limits until he winds up on a team.
News: The Buccaneers released K Matt Bryant on Saturday.
Analysis: Bryant spent all of the preseason out with a hamstring injury, but Fantasy owners were hoping he was just being rested. So much for that. Mike Nugent will be the starting kicker in Tampa now, but will be just a No.2 option. Release Bryant, who could well retire.
News: Buccaneers K Matt Bryant did not play in Friday's final preseason game against the Texans. Bryant could be in danger of losing his job this season to Mike Nugent.
Analysis: It's hard to say at this point whether Bryant or Nugent will handle the kicking duties in Tampa Bay. Wait until cuts are made on Saturday before making a decision on either player. Whoever wins the job will be at best a No. 2 Fantasy kicker.
News: Bucs coach Raheem Morris said he spoke with K Matt Bryant (hamstring) Monday to emphasize that he needs to give the team a reason to keep him, rather than Mike Nugent. Bryant hasn't played in the preseason, and Morris wasn't sure if he would be available Friday in the preseason finale vs. Houston. Bryant is considering not rushing back from the injury so that he can take his time to get healthy, then catch on with another team. "I may wait," Bryant said. "The bigger picture is my career and me and my family. When I go out there, the next time I go to kick, there's a lot of contemplation going on this week between me, my family, my agent and whoever else about that. We're just talking it out and seeing what's best for Matt Bryant. ... If I had another week, I think I could go out there with the mental standpoint of, you know what? It's fully healed. Here we go. Some people say that's easy to say because there's only one more week of the preseason. But that's just where it is."
Analysis: It looks like Bryant could be in danger of losing his job. Keep an eye on what happens with Bryant and Nugent, but the winner of the battle should be considered a No. 2 Fantasy kicker at best. Ignore both on Draft Day.
News: Buccaneers K Matt Bryant did not play in Thursday's preseason game against the Dolphins, sitting out with a hamstring issue. He remains questionable for the team's upcoming preseason game against Houston on Sept. 4.
Analysis: Mike Nugent continues to fill in for Bryant while he nurses this hamstring issue. Assuming he is able to go at the beginning of the season, Bryant should be considered a solid No. 2 Fantasy K on Draft Day. Hopefully he will kick in the team's final preseason game.
News: Buccaneers K Matt Bryant did not play in Saturday's preseason game against the Jaguars, sitting out with a hamstring issue. He remains questionable for the team's upcoming preseason game against Miami on Thursday.
Analysis: Mike Nugent continues to fill in for Bryant while he nurses this hamstring issue. Assuming he is able to go at the beginning of the season, Bryant should be considered a solid No. 2 Fantasy K on Draft Day.
News: Buccaneers K Matt Bryant did not play in Saturday's preseason game against the Titans, sitting out with a hamstring issue. He remains questionable for the team's upcoming preseason game at Jacksonville on Aug. 22.
Analysis: Mike Nugent has been taking kicks with the Bucs while Bryant sits out with the hammy injury. As long as he is good to go for the start of the season he will be considered a No. 2 Fantasy option on Draft Day.
News: Bucs K Matt Bryant remains sidelined for the third consecutive day Thursday with a mild hamstring strain. K Mike Nugent has the competition all to himself.
Analysis: Keep an eye on what happens with Bryant and hope he is OK. He will compete with Nugent for the starting job, but the winner should only be considered a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: Neither Tampa Bay K Matt Bryant nor coach Raheem Morris seemed concerned about the undisclosed malady that kept Bryant on the sideline during special teams practice Tuesday. Said Morris: "Kickers have got to feel right. They're track athletes. He didn't feel great to go, so we decided not to." Bryant is not participating in special teams practice. His competition, K Mike Nugent, has handled all kicking duties while Bryant has watched from a golf cart.
Analysis: Keep an eye on what happen with Bryant and hope he is OK. He will compete with Nugent for the starting job, but the winner should only be considered a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: The St. Petersburg Times reports the Bucs kicking competition should be fun to watch between incumbent Matt Bryant and newcomer Mike Nugent. Bryant has an average 83.1 percent success rate on field goals the past four seasons. Nugent, 27, signed during the offseason from the Jets, will be given every opportunity to win the job. His 81.5 career success rate on field goals is slightly lower than Bryant's 82.1, but Nugent's tendency for longer kickoffs at least evens the competition.
Analysis: Keep an eye on who wins the competition, but the winner is a No. 2 Fantasy kicker in all formats worth a late-round pick in deep leagues only. Don't count on Tampa Bay's kicker to win you a Fantasy title this year.
News: The St. Petersburg Times reports Matt Bryant might be out of a job soon. The signing of Mike Nugent in March was a surprise given Bryant's consistency with the Bucs since 2005. But Nugent is younger (27) than Bryant (33) and arguably has more range, though Bryant has been slightly more consistent. One of Bryant's issues the past couple of seasons is his tendency toward short kickoffs. That has cost the Bucs field position. Once training camp arrives, they will square off in competition.
Analysis: The paper speculates that Nugent will win the job, but it will be an open comeptition. Remember, Nugent was the Jets kicker until getting hurt last season and losing his job to Jay Feely. Whoever wins the job will be a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: The Tampa Tribune reports new Bucs kicker Mike Nugent has declared himself healthy and eager to challenge Matt Bryant for Tampa Bay's kicking job in training camp. Nugent, who left the Jets to join the Bucs, signed a one-year deal with the Buccaneers in March as a free agent. At 27, Nugent is six years younger than Bryant, whose career 82.1 percent success rate on field-goal attempts is slightly better than Nugent (81.5 percent). Nugent has recovered from a torn right quadriceps suffered in New York's 2008 opener. By the time Nugent recuperated late in the season, Jay Feely had established himself as the Jets' kicker. "I'm doing well and getting after it," said Nugent, who attended Tampa Bay's voluntary practice sessions this week while Bryant declined to participate. "It was tough for me last year. I'd never been hurt before seriously enough to miss a game since I was a little kid. Right after the game, I thought I'd be fine and maybe miss a week. Then we got the MRI back and it just didn't look very good at all."
Analysis: Bryant set a franchise record with 131 points last season, converting all 27 of his field-goal tries from inside the 40-yard line. But Bryant went 0-for-3 from 50 yards or longer in 2008 and is only 2-for-10 from long distance during his seven-year career, although he beat the Philadelphia Eagles in 2006 with a memorable 62-yard kick as time expired. Nugent is 3-for-9 from 50 yards or longer in his career and has made 53-of-59 attempts from inside the 40. We'll see who wins the job, but whoever it is should be considered a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: Kicker Mike Nugent signed a one-year contract with the Buccaneers on Wednesday. A second-round draft pick in 2005, Nugent spent the past four seasons with the Jets. He's converted 75 of 92 field-goal attempts (81 percent) during his career, but is coming off a year in which he missed the final 15 games after being injured in the season opener. Nugent strained his right thigh on a first-quarter kickoff at Miami and hasn't played since. Matt Bryant has been the Bucs' kicker for the past four seasons. While he was 32-for-38 on field goals in 2008, he was 5 of 11 on attempts of 40-plus yards.
Analysis: Nugent will challenge Bryant for the starting job in 2009. Regardless, the winner of that battle won't be worth much for Fantasy as there are much better kicking options out there for owners to consider -- even with Bryant's smashing 2008 campaign.
News: Buccaneers K Matt Bryant kicked a 29-yard field goal and three extra points in a Week 17 loss to Oakland.

News: Buccaneers K Matt Bryant made a 38-yard field goal but missed a 53-yarder Week 15 at Atlanta. He had only one extra point.
Analysis: Bryant had only four points this week and only five points last week, ending a seven-game streak of eight points or more. The inconsistency of the Buccaneers offense makes him a risky Fantasy option despite his oftentimes high scoring totals. Treat him as a low-end No. 1 option Week 16 against the Chargers.
News: Buccaneers K Matt Bryant, who had scored at least eight points in seven straight games, had only five in Week 14 at Carolina. He hit a 20-yard field goal, but missed a 40-yarder. He also had two extra points, missing a third.

Analysis: Bryant is quietly having himself a very nice Fantasy season with only two weeks of less than eight points so far. The Bucs could rack up the points again next week with a trip to Detroit, so Bryant deserves to be starting in more than 27 percent of leagues for that matchup.

Analysis: Bryant has not had less than six points in any game this season and the Bucs are giving him ample opportunities to put points on the board. Bryant continues to kick amid personal turmoil and remains a low-end Fantasy option heading into Week 6 against the Panthers. Bryant was 5-for-5 on field goals in two games against Carolina last season.
News: Buccaneers K Matt Bryant kicked field goals of 23, 36 and 24 yards and three extra points in a Week 4 win over the Packers. Bryant was questionable coming into Sunday after his infant son died earlier in the week.
Analysis: Bryant was clearly upset during Sunday's game, but he held it together and produced a solid performance to help Tampa Bay defeat the Packers. Bryant is a decent bye-week replacement Fantasy PK and nothing more, however, so only use him if you really have to in Week 5 at Denver.
News: Buccaneers K Matt Bryant, who was listed as questionable for Tampa Bay's Week 4 game vs. Green Bay after his infant son died earlier in the week, is warming up on the field and will play in the contest.
Analysis: Bryant is a decent bye-week replacement Fantasy PK and nothing more. Only use him if you really have to.
News: The decision to play Sunday against the visiting Green Bay Packers will be left entirely up to Matt Bryant. The Tampa Bay Bucs kicker and his wife, Melissa, lost their 3-month-old son, Tryson, who apparently died in his sleep early Wednesday morning. Bryant has not practices since then, and Bucs coach Jon Gruden said the team has not signed a kicker. "We'll make a decision, ultimately, on who kicks when we get to the stadium on Sunday," Gruden said after Friday's practice. Bryant, who has not missed a point after or a field goal this season, is probably in the best position of all the Bucs except punter Josh Bidwell to play despite missing practice. But it is Bryant's mental state that is a concern to his coaches and teammates. Bidwell told reporters Thursday that he wouldn't be surprised if Bryant does play against the Packers. Gruden said Bryant's physical state is the least of his worries.
Analysis: Bryant could very well be kicking against the Packers on Sunday but it isn't worth the risk in Fantasy. Find another kicker. Hopefully he can return and get over this tragedy, but he's a No. 2 kicker in most Fantasy leagues at this time.
News: Bucs coach Jon Gruden said Friday he's still unsure of kicker Matt Bryant's status for Sunday against Green Bay. Bryant's 3-month-old son, Matthew Tryson, unfortunately passed away, leaving him in doubt to play in Week 4. "I don't really have any update on that," Gruden said. "We're still doing the best we can on this. We'll make a decision, ultimately, on who kicks when we get to the stadium on Sunday." The Bucs have not signed another kicker at this point.
Analysis: Keep an eye on what happens with Bryant up until kickoff Sunday, but for now don't plan on using him in Week 4. Hopefully he can return and get over this tragedy, but he's a No. 2 kicker in most Fantasy leagues at this time.
News: Bucs K Matt Bryant was still away from the team Thursday as he and his family continue to grieve the sudden passing of his 3-month-old son, Matthew Tryson Bryant. Punter Josh Bidwell, a close family friend, was with the Bryants Wednesday when the tragic news surfaced. "They're a great family," Bidwell told NFL.com. "You'd be really proud of them. I'm very proud of them. I'm proud of the support that they've gotten from their friends in the neighborhood and from the team, top to bottom. It's extremely difficult to be around this situation but I couldn't imagine a better response to it, to be honest with you."
Analysis: Whether or not Bryant plays Week 4 against the Packers is insignificant. Bidwell added that the team is letting Bryant choose whether or not he wants to play. "He's got free rein, obviously, by the team to do what he needs to do to be okay," Bidwell said. "To be honest with you, I wouldn't be surprised to see him try to get out there but I wouldn't fault him in any way if he just couldn't get out there. Something like this would take time for a lot of people. I'm proud of him either way. He's doing a great job and responding well and embracing the love and support that we're giving him."
News: Matthew Tryson Bryant, the 3-month-old son of Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Matt Bryant, died Wednesday. "I don't have a lot of details," coach Jon Gruden said after practice. "It's just a horrible tragedy, and I can't explain it." Bryant, a seventh-year pro in his fourth season with Tampa Bay, kicked a winning field goal in overtime against Chicago last Sunday. Two years ago, he made the third-longest field goal in NFL history, a 62-yarder to beat Philadelphia. "The entire Buccaneer family is deeply saddened by this tragedy," general manager Bruce Allen said in a team statement. "The Bryants have been an inspiration to our entire community through their commitment to their family and their exhaustive efforts working with children and those in need in the Bay area. Our thoughts and prayers are with Matt and Melissa during this difficult time."
Analysis: Obviously, Bryant was not at practice Wednesday and no one dares to speculate whether or not he will play Sunday against the Packers. He has to deal with bigger issues right now. If we know anything about his playing status, we will let you know.
News: Buccaneers PK Matt Bryant nailed two field goals and three extra points at Chicago in Week 3.
Analysis: The Bucs' offense got rolling a little bit at Chicago, but they'll have just as tough of a time scoring points vs. the Packers in Week 4. Treat Bryant like a bye-week replacement in Week 4.

News: Bucs K Matt Bryant converted three field goals and two extra points in Week 17 vs. Carolina, finishing with 11 points. He finished the season with 118 points.
Analysis: Bryant concerted 28-of-33 field goals this season and was somewhat useful in larger Fantasy formats despite the fact that he was owned in only 10 percent of leagues. He should be a useful pickup in postseason Fantasy play, though.
News: Buccaneers K Matt Bryant returned to practice Friday after sitting out Thursday with an undisclosed illness. The team didn't include him on its injury report.
Analysis: Bryant doesn't get the kind of field-goal opportunities you'd want for a Fantasy kicker, so you probably don't want to use him in Week 17 against the Panthers.
News: Buccaneers K Matt Bryant didn't practice Thursday as the team prepares for Week 17 against the Panthers. He had an undisclosed illness.
Analysis: Bryant doesn't get the kind of field-goal opportunities you'd want for a Fantasy kicker, so you probably don't want to use him in Week 17. We suspect he'll recover in time to play, though.

News: Buccaneers K Matt Bryant was held to two extra points and did not attempt a field goal in Tampa Bay's 28-14 loss to the Houston Texans in Week 14.
Analysis: Bryant was coming off a couple of good weeks, but just didn't get the opportunities he needed to score points against the Texans. He isn't worth using in Week 15 against the Falcons, except in the deepest of leagues.
News: Bucs K Matt Bryant finished a Week 13 win against the Saints with nine points. He converted two field goals and three extra points. He booted a 27-yard field goal in the first quarter and then kicked a 31-yard field goal in the second quarter. He would have had a 12-point game had he not missed a 53-yard field goal.
Analysis: Bryant followed up a stellar performance Week 12 against the Redskins with another solid performance Week 13. He is getting a fair amount of chances to put points on the board, but is still nothing more than a low-end Fantasy flier heading into Week 14 against the Texans.
News: Buccaneers K Matt Bryant kicked field goals of 35, 27, 48 and 39 yards and made his only extra point attempt in Tampa Bay's 19-16 win over the Redskins in Week 12.
Analysis: Bryant is part of a very vanilla Tampa Bay offense and won't get four field goal attempts very often. Leave him on the wire in Week 13 when the Bucs head to New Orleans.
News: Buccaneers K Matt Bryant had four extra points and a field goal Week 11 at Atlanta. His field goal went for 23 yards in the third quarter.
Analysis: The Buccaneers don't generally light up the scoreboard, so Bryant can remain on waivers in standard 10- or 12-team leagues. The Buccaneers host the Redskins in Week 12.
News: Matt Bryant was 1-for-3 in field goal attempts against Arizona on Sunday. He also kicked two successful extra points. Bryant tried a 58-yarder at the end of the first half, but it was short, wide and returnable. He also missed a 28-yarder.
Analysis: The Bucs don't own a high-powered offense and Bryant is nothing more than a bye-week Fantasy replacement. Tampa Bay is on a bye in Week 10.
News: The Bucs kept K Matt Bryant busy Week 8 against the Jaguars. Bryant attempted three field goals during a Week 8 loss and made all three attempts. He connected from 22, 42 and 44 yards. Bryant also converted both extra points he attempted.
Analysis: It took eight games for Bryant to manage 10 or more points in a game, but it finally arrived against the Jaguars. The Bucs don't own a high-powered offense and Bryant is nothing more than a bye-week Fantasy replacement.

News: Bucs K Matt Bryant converted on a 27-yard field goal during a Week 2 win over the Saints. He also made all four of his extra points.

News: Matt Bryant posted a pair of field goals (38, 32) in Week 1 at Seattle, but he did not have any extra point attempts.
Analysis: Bryant was a solid, yet unspectacular Fantasy option in 2006 and the same holds true this season. He has a strong leg, as was evidenced by a 62-yard FG last season. He remains a decent bye-week replacement in most leagues. The Bucs host the Saints in Week 2.

Analysis: Bryant didn't get any favors from the Bucs offense, which wasn't very good at moving the ball. Expect to find him on the waiver wire in standard league play this offseason.

News: Bucs kicker Matt Bryant converted on his only FG attempt in Week 8 at the N.Y. Giants, a 43 yarder.
Analysis: A week after his heroic 62-yard game winner, Bryant had to play in poor conditions for a kicker. There were wind gusts estimated at 50 mph at Giants Stadium, but it was really the Bucs offense that didn't give him a chance to kick. Consider Bryant a decent option for Week 9 vs. New Orleans. He'll face much more favorable conditions then.
News: According to reports, Giants Stadium is currently experiencing wind gusts of up to 50 mph. The heavy wind is expected to carry into the game and could affect playing conditions.
Analysis: This could make for a tough passing day for both Eli Manning and Bruce Gradkowski and more carries for Tiki Barber and Cadillac Williams. Manning remains a recommended start in any league unless you have another stud QB to go to. Gradkowski, however, should be considered a less than desireable option. Both Jay Feely and Matt Bryant could experience difficulty on FG attempts and should be considered questionable starts.
News: Bucs PK Matt Bryant nailed two extra points and three field goals -- including a game-winning 62-yarder with time running out -- vs. Philadelphia in Week 7. "To tell you the truth, I wasn't expecting even to be given a shot at 62," said Bryant, who was 0-for-3 from beyond 40 yards until coach Jon Gruden decided his chances of making the longest kick of his career was better than throwing a TD pass from midfield on the final play. Just to be able to go out there and help the team win -- just to try to do your job, but do it that way, it doesn't get much better than that."
Analysis: Bryant's 62-yard kick was a career-best. He'll get a lot of attention this week, but he's still not a very reliable field goal kicker (he had made 2-of-5 field goals coming into the game). Do not think about using him at the N.Y. Giants in Week 8.

News: Matt Bryant didn't even get a field goal or extra point attempt against Baltimore Sunday. The only time they were in field goal range, they went for it on fourth down because they were so far behind.
Analysis: Matt Bryant is not considered a solid Fantasy starter in most formats in Week 2 at Atlanta.
News: Bucs PK Matt Bryant not only made 83 percent of his field goals in 2005, he missed only once from 29-49-yards. No wonder the Buccaneers re-signed him as a free agent. He was 5-of-6 kicking field goals this preseason.
Analysis: Bryant should only play when the Buccaneers are expected to be in a shootout. Week 1 vs. Baltimore figures to be a low-scoring game. Bryant may try two field goals and an extra point and that's about it. You should be able to find a more reliable kicker than Bryant for this week.

Analysis: Bryant could put on a similar showing vs. New Orleans in Week 17.
