Browns release Jackson, waive McCune
|
Updated 8/31/2009 |
| Nate Jackson, TE CLE | |
| News: Cleveland released TE Nate Jackson and LB Robert McCune on Monday. | Analysis: Neither Jackson nor McCune is expected to be any kind of viable Fantasy option this season. They first need to catch on elsewhere anyway. |
Broncos drop six expensive players
|

| News: High-priced defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson is among six players cut by the Denver Broncos. Robertson, acquired last offseason from the New York Jets, was set to count $16 million against the team's $123 million cap. Also released Monday by new GM Brian Xanders were linebackers Niko Koutouvides ($3.06 million) and Jamie Winborn ($2.25 million), safety Marquand Manuel ($1.33 million), defensive end John Engelberger ($2.18 million) and tight end Nate Jackson (less than $1 million). | Analysis: None of these players were productive Fantasy options that owners could rely on, though Jackson and Koutouvides had some potential in 2008. Ultimately, keep all of these players off of Fantasy rosters until further notice. |
Jackson out, Mustard in
|

| News: The Denver Broncos placed TE Nate Jackson on injured reserve Thursday, bringing back Chad Mustard to take his place on the roster. Jackson injured his right hamstring in practice Wednesday. He appeared in 10 games this season, catching 11 passes for 84 yards and one touchdown. Mustard, a fifth-year tight end from North Dakota, has been waived numerous times in his NFL career, most recently by Denver on Nov. 4. The 6-foot-6, 277-pound Mustard has played in three games for the Broncos this season. | Analysis: Jackson should be released in all formats at this time, and Mustard has minimal Fantasy value heading into Week 12 against Oakland. Keep Mustard on the waiver wire. |

| News: One week after catching three passes for a career-high 36 yards, Broncos TE Nate Jackson caught two for 32 in Week 11 at Atlanta. | Analysis: Jackson did more than primary tight end Tony Scheffler, but he didn't do enough to make us think he'll become a huge contributor anytime soon. Leave him on waivers in Fantasy for Week 12 against the Raiders. |
Jackson finally a factor Thursday
|

| News: Broncos TE Nate Jackson, who the team considers a decent receiver, finally showed it Week 10 at Cleveland. He made a season-high three grabs for 36 yards. | Analysis: Wouldn't you know it? When starter Tony Scheffler missed time with a groin injury, Jackson did nothing, and when Scheffler returns, Jackson contributes. Despite what he did Thursday, he doesn't seem worth owning in Fantasy for Week 11 at Atlanta. |
Jackson records one catch

| News: Denver TE Nate Jackson caught one pass for two yards on Sunday of Week 9 against the Dolphins. | Analysis: Jackson was playing in place of injured TE Tony Scheffler but still didn't get very involved in the offense. Scheffler plans to return in Week 10 on Thursday at Cleveland so that makes Jackson worth absolutely nothing in Fantasy. |
N. Jackson makes just one reception

| News: Broncos TE Nate Jackson caught only one pass for two yards Week 7 at New England even though starter Tony Scheffler missed his second straight game with a strained groin. | Analysis: Jackson didn't catch a single pass last week -- a game Scheffler also missed. Clearly, Jackson isn't much of a replacement in Fantasy. Leave him on waivers for the Broncos' bye in Week 8 and then again when they host the Dolphins in Week 9. |
Jackson to fill in for injured TE
|
Updated 10/8/2008 |
| Nate Jackson, TE DEN | |
| News: Broncos coach Mike Shanahan announced Wednesday that the AFC's best offense will be without two of its key components against Jacksonville on Sunday: tailback Selvin Young and tight end Tony Scheffler. Both strained groins in Denver's rain-soaked win over Tampa Bay last weekend. Head trainer Steve Antonopulos "thinks both will be ready for the Monday night game" at New England on Oct. 20, Shanahan added. "So, that's a good sign." With Young and Scheffler out, the Broncos will almost certainly rely more on running back Michael Pittman and Nate Jackson. | Analysis: Jackson was starting ahead of Scheffler alongside Daniel Graham in two tight-end sets in September, and he'll get more work until Scheffler gets healthy. "Injuries are always unfortunate but guys have always got to be able to jump in and make plays when they're called upon," Nate Jackson said. "And my preparation's not going to change at all. Hopefully, the offense won't change at all, either." Consider Jackson a possible bye-week Fantasy replacement Week 6. |
Jackson might play big role Week 6
|
Updated 10/8/2008 |
| Nate Jackson, TE DEN | |
| News: According to The Sports Xchange, Broncos TE Tony Scheffler, who injured his groin Week 5 against the Buccaneers, said he didn't think his injury was too serious, but he didn't sound optimistic about returning for Week 6 against the Jaguars. "Not looking like it," Scheffler said. Nate Jackson would likely start in his place. Like Scheffler, Jackson has receiver skills and probably would be a big part of the passing game. | Analysis: The Broncos actually discussed starting Jackson over Scheffler before the season, so you know he must have skills. In a weak year for tight ends, you might want to take a flier on Jackson if Scheffler ends up having to sit. Keep an eye on this situation. |
Three Broncos held statless Week 5
|
Updated 10/5/2008 |
| Nate Jackson, TE DEN | |
| News: Broncos TE Mike Leach, QB Patrick Ramsey and TE Nate Jackson all dressed, but failed to record an offensive stat Week 5 against the Bucs. | Analysis: Most of these players are either reserves or aren't an integral part of the Broncos' offense. They have little to no Fantasy value heading into Week 6 against the Jaguars. |
Broncos don't stat Week 4
|
Updated 9/28/2008 |
| Nate Jackson, TE DEN | |
| News: The following players suited up for Denver on Sunday against the Chiefs but did not record any stats: RB Peyton Hillis, TE Nate Jackson, TE Mike Leach and backup QB Patrick Ramsey. | Analysis: These players don't stat often enough to be considered viable Fantasy athletes. Avoid them in all formats until further notice. |
Jackson catches TD pass Sunday
|
Updated 9/21/2008 |
| Nate Jackson, TE DEN | |
| News: Denver TE Nate Jackson recorded one catch on Sunday in Week 3 against the Saints. That one catch went for one yard in the first quarter. It was the game's first touchdown. | Analysis: With Tony Scheffler catching passes as Denver's No. 1 TE, the very rare one-yard TD catch is all you can really expect from Jackson. He's more of a blocker in this offense. He's not a recommended option heading into Week 4 at Kansas City. |
Jackson catches one pass Sunday

| News: Denver TE Nate Jackson caught one pass for six yards on Sunday in Week 2 against the Chargers. | Analysis: Jackson started in Week 1 over Tony Scheffler. Scheffler has three touchdowns in two games. Can you figure out who's the more valuable tight end? Jackson is not a recommended Fantasy option. The Broncos play the Saints in Week 3. |
TE Jackson starts Week 1
|
Updated 9/9/2008 |
| Nate Jackson, TE DEN | |
| News: Broncos TE Nate Jackson started Week 1 against the Raiders as expected. He had two catches for 4 yards and dropped only one pass. | Analysis: Jackson is ahead of Tony Scheffler on the depth chart, but Scheffler is still considered the team's best receiving option at tight end. Despite his starting status, Jackson is not a recommended Fantasy option. The Broncos play the Chargers Week 2. |
N. Jackson ahead of Scheffler
|
Updated 8/25/2008 |
| Nate Jackson, TE DEN | |
| News: The Olympian reports that TE Nate Jackson is the No. 2 TE in Denver right now, ahead of TE Tony Scheffler and behind Daniel Graham. Jackson, who missed 11 games with a groin injury last season, is still trying to get over that problem. "It's a constant struggle and I'm not happy 100 percent with where my body is and I work on that every day and I feel pretty good about where I'm at," Jackson said. | Analysis: Jackson has quietly impressed this preseason in Denver, enough to bump a projected No. 1 TE down the depth chart. He might be worth a late-round flier in deeper drafts, but he's more likely to be a waiver wire pickup if he impresses over the first game or two. |
Jackson scores preseason touchdown
|
Updated 8/23/2008 |
| Nate Jackson, TE DEN | |
| News: Broncos TE Nate Jackson caught two passes in Friday's preseason game against Green Bay, including a 7-yard touchdown pass from Jay Cutler. | Analysis: The primary tight ends in Denver continue to be Tony Scheffler and Daniel Graham, so Jackson doesn't factor very prominently into Fantasy plans in 2008 despite this touchdown. |
Graham out vs. Packers
|
Updated 8/21/2008 |
| Nate Jackson, TE DEN | |
| News: With Broncos TE Daniel Graham not playing against Green Bay in Friday's preseason game to rest his strained hamstring, Nate Jackson and Brett Pierce have been filling in at his "blocking" position, reports the Denver Post. | Analysis: None of these tight ends are worth drafting in seasonal leagues at this time and should not be used in 2008 in most Fantasy formats. |
Jackson nicked up in preseason game
|
Updated 8/17/2008 |
| Nate Jackson, TE DEN | |
| News: Broncos TE Daniel Graham suffered a shoulder injury in Saturday's preseason game against Dallas. He is considered day to day. | Analysis: The Broncos are really banged up at the tight end position. Daniel Graham also left the game with a hamstring injury, but both injuries are considered minor at the moment. Tony Scheffler is the primary tight end in Denver, however, and Jackson won't be seeing enough passes thrown his way to consider using him in Fantasy at this time. |
Scheffler might have broken foot
|
Updated 5/22/2008 |
| Nate Jackson, TE DEN | |
| News: The Denver Post reports Broncos TE Tony Scheffler will be out at least four weeks after aggravating the broken left foot injury he suffered a year earlier. There is fear Scheffler may have suffered another small fracture in his foot, although initial tests were inconclusive. He suffered the new injury during the Broncos' first offseason practice Monday and was recently placed in a walking boot. Scheffler initially injured his foot last May while running a route during the team's passing-camp workout. He was diagnosed with a fractured fifth metatarsal, the bone that leads to the small toe. Although Scheffler recovered in time for the team's season opener last year, he started slowly, not catching his first pass until the fifth game. He later said he had dealt with soreness in the surgically repaired area throughout the season. Still, he was one of the league's most productive tight ends in the final 12 games and finished with 49 catches for 549 yards and five touchdowns. | Analysis: With Scheffler down, Nate Jackson figures to get more repetitions during the team's offseason training activities, along with veteran Daniel Graham. Keep an eye on what happens with Scheffler and hope he is OK. When healthy, he is a low-end No. 1 Fantasy option. Jackson and Graham don't have as much potential and would be No. 2 options at best. |
