Lions make cuts Saturday
|
Updated 8/30/2008 |
| Artose Pinner, RB DET | |
| News: Detroit announced Saturday that they have released the following players to get their roster down to 53: WR Ron Bellamy; LB Darnell Bing; S Greg Blue; LB Buster Davis; DE Victor DeGrate; CB Dovonte Edwards; WR Devale Ellis; DE Rudolph Hardie; TE Clark Harris; QB Drew Henson; S LaMarcus Hicks; LB Leon Joe; WR Brandon Middleton; WR Kenneth Moore; RB Artose Pinner; WR John Standeford and CB Kiwaukee Thomas. | Analysis: Out of the players mentioned above, the biggest name is that of Pinner. With the Lions already having placed RBs Brian Calhoun and Aveion Cason on IR, that leaves the team with just Tatum Bell and rookie Kevin Smith for carries. Pinner was solid as a backup since he's gotten to the league and should catch on elsewhere. However, he has little to no Fantasy value until that happens. None of the rest of the aforementioned players have any Fantasy relevance at this time. |
Smith averages 4.8 YPC in limited time

| News: Lions rookie RB Kevin Smith again started Sunday's preseason game against the Bengals, however his statistics weren't that solid. Smith finished with just 19 yards on four carries before ending his night. Projected starter Tatum Bell entered to start the second quarter and performed worse. He ran for just nine yards on five carries. Third-string RB Artose Pinner led the team in rushing with 52 yards on 13 carries but most of those came against the Bengals defensive scrubs. | Analysis: Pinner could have rushed for 150 yards and would still be just the third-string RB behind Tatum Bell and Smith. He's got no Fantasy value unless one or both of them get hurt. Smith, on the other hand, will enter 2008 as the No. 2 on a team that has committed to running the ball more. The former NCAA yardage champion has more upside than Bell and we think he'll probably have the better year, too. Smith does have 1,000-total-yard potential so long as he sees regular playing time. Draft him as a No. 3 Fantasy RB worth a pick between Rounds 5 and 7 in drafts. He's obviously a first-round choice in rookie-only drafts. |

Pinner rejoins the Lions
|
Updated 5/2/2008 |
| Artose Pinner, RB NO | |
| News: The Lions re-signed free agent running back Artose Pinner to a one-year deal Thursday, reacquiring a player they drafted in 2003. The 5-foot-10, 232-pound Pinner is entering his sixth NFL season. He has played in 47 regular-season games and totaled 250 rushes for 858 yards and eight touchdowns. He also has 39 receptions for 308 yards. | Analysis: Pinner will provide depth at the running back position in Detroit and won't post helpful statistics unless he finds regular playing time. Tatum Bell and Kevin Smith would have to miss time for that to happen. Pinner is not worth drafting in any league this summer. |
Saints swap Pinner for Palko
|
Updated 12/30/2007 |
| Artose Pinner, RB NO | |
| News: Prior to their Week 17 game at Chicago, the Saints cut RB Artose Pinner and re-signed QB Tyler Palko to their roster. Palko will serve as their No. 3/emergency QB. | Analysis: Neither player is worth a look in Fantasy play. |
Saints sign pair of running backs
|
Updated 12/26/2007 |
| Artose Pinner, RB ATL | |
| News: Saints RBs Reggie Bush (knee) and Aaron Stecker (turf toe) both missed practice Wednesday in preparation for Week 17 at Chicago. They're both considered questionable for the game. Coach Sean Payton didn't rule either running back out, but how serious are their injuries? New Orleans signed RBs Artose Pinner and Chris Barclay on Wednesday. | Analysis: Pinner and Barclay would be nothing more than reserve options to provide depth in case Bush and/or Stecker miss time. Neither new Saints RB is worth a look in Fantasy play. |

| Artose Pinner, RB ATL | |
| News: The Falcons waived backup RB Artose Pinner on Wednesday. | Analysis: Pinner did not and is not expected to post enough stats to warrant use in Fantasy play. Keep him off rosters. |

| Artose Pinner, RB ATL | |
| News: The Falcons' list of inactives for Week 14 against the Saints includes RB Artose Pinner, DB Jimmy Williams, DB Antoine Harris, DL Jesse Mahelona and TE Courtney Anderson. | Analysis: None of these players contributes enough statistically even when active to matter in Fantasy. | Artose Pinner, RB ATL | |
| News: For the Falcons, QB Byron Leftwich (tailbone), RB Artose Pinner (coach's decision), DB Jimmy Williams (coach's decision), RB Corey McIntyre (coach's decision) and DL Jesse Mahelona (coach's decision) were all named inactive for Atlanta's Week 13 game at St. Louis. For the Rams, QB Marc Bulger (concussion), DL James Hall (ankle), WR Dante Hall (ankle), DB Eric Bassey (knee), TE Dominique Byrd (coach's decision) and third QB/WR Marques Hagans were also named inactive. | Analysis: Leftwich's tailbone injury forces him to be the emergency third QB today. Chris Redman will back up Joey Harrington. Bulger is in active as expected for the Rams. Gus Frerotte starts with Brock Berlin backing him up. WR Marques Hagan will be the emergency third QB for St. Louis. |
