News: Detroit announced Saturday that they have released the following players to get their roster down to 53: WR Ron Bellamy; LB Darnell Bing; S Greg Blue; LB Buster Davis; DE Victor DeGrate; CB Dovonte Edwards; WR Devale Ellis; DE Rudolph Hardie; TE Clark Harris; QB Drew Henson; S LaMarcus Hicks; LB Leon Joe; WR Brandon Middleton; WR Kenneth Moore; RB Artose Pinner; WR John Standeford and CB Kiwaukee Thomas.	Analysis: Out of the players mentioned above, the biggest name is that of Pinner. With the Lions already having placed RBs Brian Calhoun and Aveion Cason on IR, that leaves the team with just Tatum Bell and rookie Kevin Smith for carries. Pinner was solid as a backup since he's gotten to the league and should catch on elsewhere. However, he has little to no Fantasy value until that happens. None of the rest of the aforementioned players have any Fantasy relevance at this time.

News: Lions rookie RB Kevin Smith again started Sunday's preseason game against the Bengals, however his statistics weren't that solid. Smith finished with just 19 yards on four carries before ending his night. Projected starter Tatum Bell entered to start the second quarter and performed worse. He ran for just nine yards on five carries. Third-string RB Artose Pinner led the team in rushing with 52 yards on 13 carries but most of those came against the Bengals defensive scrubs.	Analysis: Pinner could have rushed for 150 yards and would still be just the third-string RB behind Tatum Bell and Smith. He's got no Fantasy value unless one or both of them get hurt. Smith, on the other hand, will enter 2008 as the No. 2 on a team that has committed to running the ball more. The former NCAA yardage champion has more upside than Bell and we think he'll probably have the better year, too. Smith does have 1,000-total-yard potential so long as he sees regular playing time. Draft him as a No. 3 Fantasy RB worth a pick between Rounds 5 and 7 in drafts. He's obviously a first-round choice in rookie-only drafts.

News: The Lions re-signed free agent running back Artose Pinner to a one-year deal Thursday, reacquiring a player they drafted in 2003. The 5-foot-10, 232-pound Pinner is entering his sixth NFL season. He has played in 47 regular-season games and totaled 250 rushes for 858 yards and eight touchdowns. He also has 39 receptions for 308 yards.	Analysis: Pinner will provide depth at the running back position in Detroit and won't post helpful statistics unless he finds regular playing time. Tatum Bell and Kevin Smith would have to miss time for that to happen. Pinner is not worth drafting in any league this summer.

Coach Sean Payton didn't rule either running back out, but how serious are their injuries? New Orleans signed RBs Artose Pinner and Chris Barclay on Wednesday.	Analysis: Pinner and Barclay would be nothing more than reserve options to provide depth in case Bush and/or Stecker miss time. Neither new Saints RB is worth a look in Fantasy play.

Considering they added him after the preseason, the Falcons barely want him on theirs.

Analysis: Pinner may land a few reps here and there for the Falcons, but he isn't worth owning in Fantasy play. As for Snelling, apparently he fell out of favor with coach Bobby Petrino and couldn't establish himself as their short-yardage presence. He should only be held on to in deeper keeper leagues. Everyone else doesn't put up enough stats to warrant use in Fantasy play.

Pinner played in 12 games with one start in 2006, finishing with 190 rush yards on 43 carries, three touchdowns, 15 receiving yards and a fumble. All three touchdowns came in his lone start, Week 14 at Detroit, filling in for Chester Taylor.	Analysis: Pinner has value as a late-round flier reserve Fantasy RB in deeper leagues only. Perhaps consider him as a waiver-wire addition after the draft if you select Chester Taylor.

News: The Vikings made several roster moves before the start of free agency, releasing CB Fred Smoot, TE Jermaine Wiggins and OT Mike Rosenthal. They also tendered the following restricted free agents: RB Artose Pinner, DE Darrion Scott, TE Richard Owens, OG Anthony Herrera and DT Spencer Johnson. They also made offers to exclusive rights free agents LB Heath Farwell and punter Chris Kluwe.	Analysis: Smoot has declined from a quality NFL cornerback to a below-average one. He'll have trouble finding a starting job next season. As for Wiggins, the veteran tight end was a nice fill-in option for owners over the last couple of years, but he'll have to sign somewhere and find playing time before being worth anything in Fantasy value. As far as everyone else listed above, only Pinner has value as a late-round flier reserve Fantasy RB.

News: According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Vikings RB Chester Taylor (ribs) returned to practice Wednesday and said "the plan is to play" Sunday against the New York Jets. Taylor said he planned to wear protection over the affected area during practice so he could learn how to compensate for the additional padding. "I'm going to work out on it and see how it goes," said Taylor, who is listed as questionable on the injury report. "I'll use every precaution necessary and then just go out and play." Coach Brad Childress said he would watch Taylor carefully to ensure he is prepared for the rigors of a full game.	Analysis: Continue to monitor his status, but continue Taylor a No. 2 option for Week 15 against the Jets. If Taylor is unable to go, Artose Pinner would be the beneficiary and should be considered a No. 3 option.

News: Vikings coach Brad Childress said Monday that the team will check out RB Chester Taylor (ribs) and see how much pain he can tolerate on Wednesday in practice before determining what his status will be for Week 15 vs. the Jets. Taylor said after the Vikings Week 14 win that he expected to play next week. Artose Pinner is expected to play for Taylor if he can't go.	Analysis: Monitor Taylor's status in the coming week. If he plays, he'll be a monster Fantasy option against a beat-up Jets run defense. If he doesn't, then Pinner would be considered a No. 3 Fantasy RB for the game.

News: Vikings RB Artose Pinner got the bulk of the work in place of Chester Taylor, who missed Week 14 with bruised ribs. Pinner had 29 carries for 125 yards and three touchdowns at Detroit in Week 14. Pinner also had 15 receiving yards on two catches with a fumble. Vikings coach Brad Childress explained after the game that he was planning on using Pinner, Ciatrick Fason and Mewelde Moore until one of them established themselves as the best back to use in the game. That turned out to be Pinner. "We thought that he probably had the best chance for success in the run games that we had," Childress said. "It doesn't mean that Ciatrick (Fason) didn't have some opportunities -- he had some opportunities as well -- but you kind of go with the guy that's got the hot hand."	Analysis: "I really didn't have an idea of how it was going to go," Pinner said after the game. "I know throughout the week, we had a balanced attack plan and it just happened to end up being me rushing the ball as many times as I did." Pinner had his best day as a pro for sure. Fantasy owners who fizzled out with Ciatrick Fason or Mewelde Moore in Week 14 should look into picking up Pinner in case Taylor misses Week 15 vs. the Jets. However, based on Childress' comments, there's no guarantee that Pinner will be the all-purpose back for the Vikings next week. Consider him a No. 3 Fantasy RB if he does start for Taylor next week.

He's the leading rusher among running backs on his team (Josh McCown has the most rushing yards with 67) but is battling for a reserve role behind starter Kevin Jones with Arlen Harris and rookie Brian Calhoun.
