Falcons cut Asante Samuel, Stephen Nicholas

(2/5/2014) The Falcons cut cornerback Asante Samuel and linebacker Stephen Nicholas.

Samuel, 33, was scheduled to make $5.25 million in salary and bonuses in 2014. He had 30 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble and three passes defensed in 11 games last season.

Nicholas, 30, was set to earn $3 million and count $4 million against the cap. He had 36 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble in 14 games last season.

(11/3/2013) Falcons defensive back Asante Samuel, who was taken to the locker room at the end of the second quarter and tested for a concussion at halftime, had a big performance statistically after being cleared to return. He finished with a season-high eight tackles, all solo, and also forced a fumble.

Samuel now has 20 tackles and one interception in six games this season.

(11/3/2013) Falcons defensive back Asante Samuel, who left with about a minute to go in the second quarter Week 9 at Carolina, was tested for a concussion and cleared to return. He was back on the field for the Panthers' opening drive of the third quarter.

Samuel was playing in his sixth game this season. He was limited early in the year by a thigh injury.

(10/5/2013) Falcons cornerback Asante Samuel was limited in practice for the second straight day Saturday, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports. Samuel is officially listed as questionable for the Week 5 Monday night game at home against the Jets. 

Samuel, who missed practice earlier in the week, is dealing with a thigh injury. He has only played in two games thus far this season and has two tackles.

(9/29/2013) Running back Steven Jackson (hamstring) heads the Falcons' list of inactives for Week 4. Also sitting out are cornerback Asante Samuel (thigh), safety Kemal Ishmael, linebacker Jamar Chaney, guard Harland Gunn, offensive tackle Ryan Schraeder and defensive tackle Travian Robertson.

Jackson got hurt in the Week 2 win over the Rams, and it's unclear when he'll return.

(9/16/2013) Falcons cornerback Asante Samuel's quadriceps injury doesn't appear to be serious, a source told FOX Sports. Samuel "tweaked" his quadriceps Sunday against the Rams and was pulled more as a precaution.

(9/8/2013) With Falcons defensive back Asante Samuel inactive because of a thigh injury, fellow cornerbacks Robert McClain and Robert Alford played more than usual and made significant contributions statistically. McClain was second on the team with 10 tackles, including eight solo, and Alford recorded his first ever interception. Alford also had a tackle.
