News: The 49ers, not content with finishing as the bridesmaid in last year's Super Bowl, took a risk on a former pro bowler to bolster their secondary Tuesday. The Niners signed former Eagles defensive back Nnamdi Asomugha to a one-year contract.
Analysis: Asomugha's stock has fallen in a big way since joining the Eagles, but this is a good chance for him to rebuild his reputation. Still, Asomugha hasn't been a big numbers guy in years (other than giving up big numbers), so don't expect him to be worth much in most Fantasy formats on Draft Day.
News: ESPN reports the Eagles will release cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.
Analysis: When he arrived in Philadelphia two years ago he was considered the best cornerback in the NFL. Now he might be among the worst after he was a major liability in coverage for the Eagles last year. Whether he's in Philly or not he's not worth adding to your Fantasy team in 2013.
News: Due $15 million this season, the Eagles are going to release veteran cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, according to a report from 94 WIP Radio's Howard Eskin. However the Philadelphia Inquirer reports no such plan is in place.
Analysis: Asomugha, who will keep $4 million, was a major liability in coverage for the Eagles last year. Whether he's in Philly or not he's not worth adding to your Fantasy team in 2013.
News: Eagles defensive back Nnamdi Asomugha left Sunday's game against the Bucs with possible neck and hip injuries, but returned to start the second half. Asomugha was flipped by Dallas Clark while airborne, trying to intercept a Josh Freeman pass. X-rays on Asomugha's neck, taken before halftime, were negative.
Analysis: Asomugha was on the ground for several minutes before getting up and walking to the sideline. Fox Sports' Jennifer Hale pointed out that when Asomugha went to the locker room, his helmet was still on, likely as a precaution with the possible neck injury. Asomugha had two tackles when he left the game and recorded a tackle a minute into the second half (giving him 43 on the year). In the midst of a second straight disappointing season, Asomugha is a low-end option in IDP formats.
News: Eagles cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha totaled five tackles (four solo) and one interception Week 6 vs. Detroit. It was his first interception of the season. He had three pass defenses.
Analysis: You couldn't tell by looking at Asomugha's numbers that he is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, but he is. He is so good that teams often can't attack his side of the field, which is why Asomugha doesn't have great stats. He is just a low-end Fantasy IDP option.
News: Despite reports that he had been taken to the hospital as a result of an eye injury in the second quarter, Eagles defensive back Nnamdi Asomugha was able to talk his way back into the game in the second half Sunday against the Giants. He finished the game with a pair of tackles and a pass defended, as the Eagles won, 19-17.
Analysis: Happily, the injury did not prove to be serious, which was a great sign after those initially concerning reports. It seems as if Asomugha will be fine moving forward. He remains a top-notch cover corner, which means that teams tend to avoid him in the passing game, so Fantasy owners should consider him just a low-end IDP option moving forward.
News: Eagles defensive lineman Nnamdi Asomugha was forced to leave Sunday's game against the Giants in the second quarter, after suffering an eye injury. He is expected to return to the game.
Analysis: Hopefully this injury does not prove to be serious, however his absence would have a bigger impact on the effectiveness of the Eagles defense as a whole, as he is not much of a Fantasy IDP option. We will keep an eye on his progress moving forward.
News: Eagles defensive back Nnamdi Asomugha was forced to leave Week 4 against the Giants in the second quarter, after suffering an eye injury. There is no word on his potential return at this time.
Analysis: Hopefully this injury does not prove to be serious, however his absence would have a bigger impact on the effectiveness of the Eagles defense as a whole, as he is not much of a Fantasy option. We will keep an eye on his progress moving forward.
News: Philadelphia cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha (head) was able to start Monday's preseason contest at New England. Asomugha took a vicious hit in practice last Monday that left him motionless for a stretch. He was carted off the field, but the injury clearly wasn't as serious as it initially appeared. Asomugha did not suffer a concussion and made a few tackles against the Patriots on Monday night.
Analysis: Asomugha avoided a serious injury and was back on the field one week later for the game against the Patriots. Asomugha is one of the premiere corners in the league, but his lack of tackles and interceptions limit him to just deeper Fantasy IDP formats.
News: Eagles defensive back Nnamdi Asomugha ran into safety Nate Allen during Monday's practice, and the collision left Asomugha motionless on the ground before he was carted off the field. Trainers tended to Asomugha's head, and one reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that he has blood on his shirt as he was taken off the field. He was diagnosed with a lacerated lip and sore neck, while testing for a concussion came back negative. He has no concussion symptoms, according to the team.
Analysis: From the sounds of it, this was a pretty vicious collision, one that left Asomugha on the ground for five minutes before he was able to stand. Asomugha is the starter at right cornerback for the Eagles, so this was the last thing they wanted to have happen. The Eagles will likely be very careful with him moving forward, but he at least avoided suffering a concussion. Asomugha is one of the premiere corners in the league, but his lack of tackles and interceptions limit him to just deeper Fantasy IDP formats.
News: Eagles CB Nnamdi Asomugha has a concussion from Thursday night's loss in Seattle and his status for the Eagles' game vs. the Dolphins in Week 14 will be determined next week.
Analysis: Asomugha has three interceptions this season, which is the most he has had since recording a career-high eight in 2006. While Asomugha is one of the best corners in the NFL that doesn't help him in Fantasy since teams usually don't throw his way. Asomugha has low-end Fantasy appeal when healthy.
News: Eagles DB Nnamdi Asomugha suffered a neck injury in Week 13 versus the Seahawks. He went into the locker room for further evaluation, but did not come back on the field to open the second half. He had one solo tackle before exiting the game.
Analysis: Asomugha was hurt on a play in which WR Mike Williams landed on top of him. Asomugha has 26 tackles and three interceptions on the year. Fantasy owners in IDP leagues should keep an eye on his status, but even when healthy Asomugha is just a low-end DB option.
News: Eagles DB Nnamdi Asomugha has been ruled active for Week 12 against the Patriots after hyper-extending his knee earlier in the week.
Analysis: Asomugha missed some practice leading up to Sunday but apparently he is healthy enough to start against the Patriots and their potent passing attack. He already has three interceptions and 24 tackles on the year but since teams tend to shy away from him, consider Asomugha as more of a low-end Fantasy DB in IDP formats.
News: Philadelphia coach Andy Reid said Friday that DB Nnamdi Asomugha sustained a hyperextended knee and his status for Week 12 against New England is questionable. Asomugha suffered the injury in Thursday's practice and had to be carted off the field.
Analysis: Asomugha did not practice Friday and his status for Sunday's game against the Patriots appears bleak. Reports indicated Asomugha did not suffer any structural damage in his knee, but the injury could keep him sidelined. Fantasy owners should monitor Asomugha's status, but he was viewed as a low-end option in IDP formats when healthy.
News: Philadelphia DB Nnamdi Asomugha, one of the Eagles' celebrated free agency acquisitions, injured his left knee during practice Thursday and was taken off the field on a cart. The team had no comment on the extent of the injury and a team spokesman said Asomughas status would be updated on Friday. Asomugha was participating in a non-contact drill on the grass fields adjacent to the teams complex when he was hurt.
Analysis: According to CSN Philadelphia, initial tests on Asomugha's knee revealed no significant injury but the team has yet to confirm that report. Asomugha, a three-time Pro Bowl pick and four-time All-Pro selection, leads Philadelphia with three interceptions -- two in his last four games. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on his status, but Asomugha represents a low-end option in IDP formats when healthy.
News: Comcast SportsNet reports that Eagles CB Nnamdi Asomugha was carted from Eagles practice Thursday with a knee injury.
Analysis: Asomugha hasn't had the best season as he has been burned for several touchdowns, including one just last week thanks to Victor Cruz. We'll keep you posted on Asomugha's status.
News: Philadelphia DB Nnamdi Asomugha had one tackle and an interception during the Eagles' 21-17 loss to Arizona in Week 10. Asomugha picked off QB John Skelton in the second half and now has three total interceptions this season.
Analysis: Asomugha isn't known for being a huge Fantasy contributor as he rarely earns interceptions. But he has now matched his interception total over his previous four seasons with Oakland. Still, consider him a low-end option in the majority of Fantasy IDP formats.
News: Eagles DB Nnamdi Asomugha was on Dez Bryant and Miles Austin most of the game on Sunday and neither registered more than 30 receiving yards. Asomugha had three tackles, two solo, and one interception in Week 8 against the Cowboys. The Eagles would win the game, 34-7.
Analysis: Asomugha now has two picks on the year to go with 19 tackles. While he's taken a ton of heat in the media since joining the Eagles, Asomugha can shut down opposing team's receivers. But in terms of Fantasy value, Asomugha is just a low-end DB option in IDP leagues.
News: Eagles DB Nnamdi Asomugha went without any statistics in Week 3 against the Giants. Over the first three weeks of the season, he has managed four tackles, an interception and a pass defensed.
Analysis: Giants QB Eli Manning was looking to stay away from Asomugha, as most opposing quarterbacks do. However, with Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie on the other side, there should be enough action for Asomugha to remain a viable No. 2 DB in IDP formats this season.
News: Eagles DB Nnamdi Asomugha had a productive game in Week 2 against the Falcons. He picked off QB Matt Ryan for his first interception and finished with three tackles in the 35-31 loss.
Analysis: Asomugha is expected to make a big difference in Philadelphia this season but since teams tend to shy away from him, continue to view the 30-year-old as a low-end Fantasy option in IDP formats.
News: Eagles DB Nnamdi Asomugha was credited with just one tackle in his Philadelphia debut against the Rams in Week 1. The Eagles held the Rams to 181 passing yards in the game.
Analysis: Asomugha remains one of the more dominant corners in the NFL, though that is often not reflected in the box score. With opposing quarterbacks rarely finding open receivers on his side, he is usually not in line for many passes defensed or tackles. He could see more plays come his way this season due to the variety of excellent DBs in the Philly secondary this season, but he remains a low-end play in IDP formats.
News: Newly acquired DB Nnamdi Asomugha returned to Eagles practice on Monday. He sat out Sunday due to a sore leg.
Analysis: The issue was never believed to be serious and his quick return confirms that. Asomugha is one of the best defensive backs in the NFL, but that doesn't always translate for Fantasy purposes -- especially since opposing quarterbacks are often deterred from throwing his way. Hopefully, with the depth Philly has at corner that Asomugha will be challenged a bit more in 2011, but he is still a low-end Fantasy DB until he starts posting favorable stats.
News: CB Nnamdi Asomugha sat out Sunday's morning practice after straining a calf on Saturday. The injury isn't believed to be serious.
Analysis: The last thing the Eagles want to see is their top offseason signing getting injured early in camp, but this seems to be a non-issue. Asomugha is one of the best defensive backs in the NFL, but that doesn't always translate for Fantasy purposes. Hopefully, with the depth Philly has at corner that Asomugha will be challenged a bit more in 2011, but he is still a low-end Fantasy DB until he starts posting favorable stats.
News: The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Saturday that DB Nnamdi Asomugha was able to practice, but needed tape over his injured ankle. He was limited in practice but was out there in uniform.
Analysis: Asomugha is expected to start for the Eagles and play in a prominent role. He is not worth drafting in the majority of IDP leagues, but he could be added off the waiver wire as a low-end DB in deep formats.
News: Eagles CB Nnamdi Asomugha had his first practice with his new team Thursday. "This was the first time I've competed since last December, so it felt great to get out there and mix it up," Asomugha said. "The biggest thing now is to learn as much as I can as quickly as I can."
Analysis: Asomugha is expected to start for the Eagles and play in a prominent role. He is not worth drafting in the majority of IDP leagues, but he could be added off the waiver wire as a low-end DB in deep formats.
News: The Eagles swooped into the Nnamdi Asomugha derby and got the cornerback with a five-year, $60 million contract that includes $25 million guaranteed. Asomugha will now anchor an already-impressive secondary that added Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie on Thursday and had quality cornerback Asante Samuel on the roster already.
Analysis: Asomugha's Fantasy fortunes might not change much. NFL offenses already know to steer clear of his side of the field, so chances are he won't load up on tackles and turnovers to help Fantasy owners. If anything, snare him with a late pick, but he's not expected to be a major stat hound in 2011.
News: Fox Sports reports that the Eagles have reached an agreement with free agent CB Nnamdi Asomugha Friday. The five-year deal is worth a reported $60 million with $25 million guaranteed, making him the highest paid defensive back in the NFL.
Analysis: Asomugha has been the prize of the free agent class of 2011, and the move to Philadelphia came as a late surprise after several other teams seemed to be poised to land the top-notch cover guy. He immediately upgrades the secondary to potential elite status. While Asomugha is one of the best corners in the league for a defense, it doesn't translate at all to Fantasy play. Consider him to be a last-resort option in IDP formats on Draft Day.
News: Because the Raiders gave contract extensions to CB Stanford Routt and Richard Seymour and placed the franchise tag on LB Kamerion Wimbley, signs point to CB Nnamdi Asomugha not re-signing with the team. Asomugha is a free agent after his contract was voided earlier this offseason.
Analysis: Asomugha should become the elite defensive free agent this offseason and will demand a sizable salary because of his superior skills as a cover corner. While Asomugha's Fantasy value isn't great because teams avoid throwing his way, whatever defense unit picks him up will get an automatic boost.
News: CB Nnamdi Asomugha pulled out of the Pro Bowl because of lingering problems with his right ankle, which he injured during the season against Seattle. Denvers Champ Bailey replaced him on the AFC roster. Asomugha made the team as a starter.
Analysis: Asomugha should be fine. While Asomugha's Fantasy value isn't great because teams avoid throwing his way, whatever defense unit picks him up will get an automatic boost.
News: The contract of Raiders DB Nnamdi Asomugha has been voided because he failed to meet certain incentives. Asomugha will be a free agent whenever free agency picks back up after labor negotiations are settled. "The contract is voided but we have to wait on all the ramifications of the CBA before we really move on from there," Raiders senior executive John Herrera said Sunday, via the Contra Costa Times.
Analysis: Asomugha immediately becomes the elite defensive free agent this offseason and will demand a sizable salary because of his superior skills as a cover corner. While Asomugha's Fantasy value isn't great because teams avoid throwing his way, whatever defense unit picks him up will get an automatic boost.
News: Raiders DB Nnamdi Asomugha was again a feared defender and took away half of the field in 2010 -- forcing QBs to throw in the other direction. He didn't intercept a single pass, but his peers and NFL fans voted him in as a Pro Bowl starter for the third straight season.
Analysis: Asomugha missed two games with an ankle injury, but once he returned to the lineup, he still did not see many passes his way. He totaled just 19 tackles on the year, but his impact on the team is among the most important as any individual defensive player in the NFL. Unfortunately, the lack of action nearly eliminates his Fantasy value considering the points system is based on physical numbers. Consider Aomugha a low-end Fantasy DB in IDP formats heading into 2011, worth drafting in the latter rounds.
News: Raiders DB Nnamdi Asomugha was active for Week 16 against the Colts. He has been dealing with an ankle injury for a weeks and re-aggravated the injury last week against the Broncos.
Analysis: Asomugha has been dealing with this ankle injury for a few weeks now but he has played every game since Week 12. It is a good thing he is active for Sunday's matchup as the Raiders need him in order to slow down Indianapolis' explosive offense. Consider Aomugha a low-end Fantasy DB in IDP formats against the Colts.

Analysis: Asomugha hasn't missed a game since returning Week 12, but the continues to show up on the injury report. Consider him a low-end option in IDP formats for Week 14.

Analysis: While Asomugha is one of the best DBs in the league, he doesn't get many passes thrown his way. He has 11 tackles with five passes defended through the first eight games but has yet to pick off a pass. Monitor his status leading up to Week 9 but continue to view Asomugha as a low-end Fantasy DB in IDP formats, when healthy.
News: Raiders DB Nnamdi Asomugha was in and out of Sunday's game against the Seahawks in Week 8. He left for a bit during the third quarter but would return from the locker room with his left hand wrapped heavily. Then in the fourth quarter Asomugha would hurt his right ankle and lay on the sideline. He was helped to back to the bench by trainers.
Analysis: Asomugha and the Raiders defense were all over the Seahawks on Sunday. While Asomugha is one of the best DBs in the league, he doesn't get many passes thrown his way. He doesn't have an interception yet this season and just eight tackles, which doesn't give him too much Fantasy value.
News: Raiders DB Nnamdi Asomugha has only seen six passes thrown his way in the last two games, but Week 7 opponent -- Denver -- could test him more than most teams. "He's one of the top corners in the league ... and the fact that we have to play him twice a year is no fun," coach Josh McDaniels said. "But we're going to try to run our offense. When you start getting into a game plan and saying, 'Well, we can't do this and we can't do that,' you can start to outthink yourself." In 2009, opponents completed only 21 attempts against Asomugha. In '08, he allowed 17 in 15 games.
Analysis: While Asomugha is considered one of the best defensive backs in the NFL, he is now getting the Charles Woodson treatment, and not getting too many passes his way. He has no interceptions through six weeks this year and managed just three interceptions in his last three seasons after recording eight in 2006. That's what happens when teams stop throwing your way. Asomugha is not a very good Fantasy option because of his poor stats.
News: Raiders DB Nnamdi Asomugha, who is the NFL's highest-paid defensive back, said he lacked confidence his first two seasons in the NFL. "If I made a play in my first two years, it was just the athleticism," he said. "I remember feeling like, 'I don't know what I'm doing.'" Asomugha said his confidence finally soared in his third NFL season after a game when Tom Brady avoided Charles Woodson and attacked him. "I had to grow up," Asomugha said. "When you're forced to grow up, you can gain a lot of confidence."
Analysis: While Asomugha is considered one of the best defensive backs in the NFL, he is now getting the Woodson treatment. He has managed just three interceptions in his last three seasons after recording eight in 2006. That's what happens when teams stop throwing your way. Asomugha is not a very good Fantasy option because of his poor stats.
News: Several Raiders played well on defense Sunday in a win over the Bengals Week 11. Tyvon Branch led the team with 12 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble. Kirk Morrison had four tackles in the game and recovered a fumble. Desmond Bryant had three tackles in the game and forced and recovered a fumble. Greg Ellis finished the game with three tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery. Thomas Howard had five tackles and a forced fumble. Nnamdi Asomugha had three tackles and intercepted a pass.
Analysis: Morrison, Branch and Howard are solid options in IDP formats. The rest of these players have little to no value and should be benched in the majority of leagues for Week 12 at Dallas on Thanksgiving.
News: Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha will play against the Jets but will wear a shield on his helmet to protect his injured right eye, coach Tom Cable said. Asomugha was poked in the eye Sunday against the Eagles and missed most of the game. Cable said he might miss practice Wednesday. "If we had to go out and work tomorrow, they said he could go, so we should be fine."
Analysis: Asomugha is a better real-life option than Fantasy option. Quarterbacks know to stay away from the best cornerbacks, so ones like Asomugha don't get many interceptions. That said, he should be fine for use Week 7.
News: Raiders All-Pro cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha got poked in the eye Week 6 against the Eagles, later briefly returned and then left the game again with vision trouble. "It's killing me right now," Asomugha said. "They kept putting numbing drops in, but that would go away after about five minutes. The cornea was damaged on the third play of the game. I got hit in the eye by DeSean (Jackson), so we'll check it out tomorrow." He watched as much of the game as he could. "I was trying to make out what was going on, then it got better, so I was able to see it," he said.
Analysis: Asomugha will probably have enough time to heal for Week 7 against the Jets, but he's a better real-life option than Fantasy option. Quarterbacks know to stay away from the best cornerbacks, so ones like Asomugha don't get many interceptions.
News: Oakland DB Nnamdi Asomugha (wrist) has been listed as probable for the team's Week 6 game against the Eagles.
Analysis: Asomugha had been dealing with this injury for a few weeks, but has yet to miss a game. The injury probably has little to do with his lack of stats as much as teams shying away from the lockdown corner. Asomugha is a great corner, but has little Fantasy value because of weak stats. The fact that nobody wants to throw his way is bad in Fantasy.
News: Raiders DB Nnamdi Asomugha (wrist) was listed as active and a starter for Week 5 against the Giants. He was listed as probable on the injury report and was expected to play.

News: Oakland DB Nnamdi Asomugha is considered probable for Week 3's game against the Broncos with a wrist injury. He was able to practice in full all week.
Analysis: Asomugha played in the team's firs ttwo games after sitting out the end of the preseason with a wrist injury. He might continue to show up on the injury report, but until he suffers a setback Fantasy owners shouldn't worry. Asomugha is one of the best cover corners in the NFL. However, he has just two interceptions since picking off eight passes in 2006 and teams often shy away from him. Since his stats are no longer overly attractive, Asomugha has minimal Fantasy appeal.
News: Raiders DB Nnamdi Asomugha (wrist) is listed as probable for Week 2 at Kansas City. He took full practice reps all week.
Analysis: Asomugha played in Week 1 against the Chargers after sitting out the end of the preseason with a wrist injury.
News: Oakland DB Nnamdi Asomigha was not put on the Raiders' list of inactives and is expected to start Week 1 against the Chargers.
Analysis: Asomugha is arguably the best cover corner in the NFL, but teams don't throw his way much. Thus, he only has minimal Fantasy value and is a low-end option in IDP formats.
News: Raiders Pro Bowl CB Nnamdi Asomugha is practicing again Tuesday, but it looks like he has supersized the cast and protective wrap on his broken left wrist. He says he'll definitely play the opener against San Diego.
Analysis: Asomugha is arguably the best cover corner in the NFL, but teams don't throw his way much. As a result, he doesn't have much Fantasy value because he doesn't produce many tackles or interceptions.
News: All-Pro cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha sat out the Raiders' preseason finale at Seattle. Asomugha, with a cast on his left wrist, isn't expected to miss the opener against San Diego in Week 1.
Analysis: Considered by many to be the best cornerback in the NFL, Asomugha might struggle a bit upon his return from the sideline (cornerbacks use their wrists plenty during a game). He's never been a monster stat producer anyway, so keep him limited to a reserve DB in Fantasy play this season.
News: Oakland Raiders Pro Bowl cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha will wear a cast on his injured left wrist but isn't expected to miss the team's season-opener. Asomugha met with a hand specialist this week after being diagnosed with a chip fracture suffered during the first play of Saturday's preseason loss to New Orleans. Tests confirmed the fracture and revealed cartilage damage in Asomugha's left wrist. "I'll play in the opener, no problem," Asomugha said Tuesday, shooting down reports that he might miss the Raiders' Sept. 14 home game against San Diego. "If we played today it would be a big issue. I wouldn't even be able to go if it was today. But it wouldn't be an issue afterward." Asomugha did not practice Tuesday and won't play in Oakland's preseason finale against Seattle on Thursday.
News: ESPN reports that Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha will be sidelined for two weeks while recovering from a chipped bone in his left wrist suffered against the Saints in preseason action.

News: Raiders Pro Bowl CB Nnamdi Asomugha was expected to see a specialist Monday afternoon about the chipped bone in his left wrist, coach Tom Cable said. Cable said he doesn't know whether Asomugha will have to undergo surgery or wear a cast. Asomugha, who was hurt on the second play of the Saints preseason game Saturday, will miss Thursday night's game against Seattle.
Analysis: Asomugha is arguably the best cover corner in the NFL, but teams don't throw his way much. As a result, he doesn't have much Fantasy value because he doesn't produce many tackles or interceptions.
News: Raiders Pro Bowl CB Nnamdi Asomugha left the game with a chip fracture in his left wrist but Cable said he might not miss much time.
Analysis: This might not be so good for Asomugha, who is considered one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. We'll keep you posted, but assume you've seen the last of him this preseason.
News: NFL Network reports that the Raiders and CB Nnamdi Asomugha have agreed to terms on a three-year deal that guarantees at least $28.5 million over the first two seasons and has a variable option for the third year. Asomugha's 2011 salary will be the average of the top five highest-paid quarterbacks (not cornerbacks) or $16.875 million whichever is greater -- unless the club refuses the option, in which case they cannot franchise him. Asomugha is considered one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, and this contract makes him one of the highest paid defensive players in league history. The NFL is still reviewing the contract.
Analysis: Asomugha is a great cornerback, but not in Fantasy. He finished 2008 with 40 total tackles, one interception and nine passes defensed. Not good totals. He's no better than a one-week replacement off the waiver-wire this season. Keep in mind that he hasn't had more than one INT since gettign eight in 2006.
News: Raiders DB Nnamdi Asomugha (neck) was listed among the inactives for Oakland's Week 17 game at Tampa Bay.
Analysis: This news won't affect IDP leagues too much, as Asomugha is only owned in two percent of leagues, but it is a massive boost for Buccaneers WR Antonio Bryant, so was likely to be covered by the Pro Bowler. Bryant is now a must-start in all Fantasy formats.
News: Raiders DB Nnamdi Asomugha left Week 16 against the Texans in the fourth quarter with a sore neck. He finished with three tackles, including two solo.
Analysis: Asomugha has only one interception on the season and doesn't do enough statistically for Fantasy purposes. Leave him on waivers in Fantasy IDP leagues.
News: Raiders LB Kirk Morrison (12 tackles), DB Gibril Wilson (11 tackles), DB Hiram Eugene (nine tackles), DB DeAngelo Hall (eight tackles), LB Thomas Howard (seven tackles), DL Tommy Kelly (seven tackles) and DB Nnamdi Asomugha (seven tackles) made the most of their excessive time on the field in a Week 9 24-0 loss to the Falcons.
Analysis: Morrison, Wilson and Hall are must-starts at their positions in IDP leagues, while Howard has some value as a low-end LB in deeper IDP formats. Eugene, Kelly and Asomughe have barely any value. Start only Morrison, Wilson and Kelly in Week 10 vs. the Panthers.
News: Oakland DB Nnamdi Asomugha is probable with an elbow injury for Week 6 at New Orleans. Asomugha was able to practice in full on Friday.
Analysis: Asomugha is a lock-down corner, but that always doesn't work well in Fantasy since teams shy away from him. He's a low-end Fantasy IDP option and continued injury risk in Week 6.
News: The Raiders could be short-handed on defense Week 4 against the Chargers, where key starters Nnamdi Asomugha (elbow), Derrick Burgess (triceps) and Gerard Warren (pectoral muscle) have been slowed during practice. With backup cornerback Stanford Routt also questionable because of a sprained ankle, the Raiders could be forced to move starting free safety Michael Huff or backup safety Rashad Baker to cornerback on Sunday.
Analysis: Asomugha has a small fracture in his elbow after getting kicked while trying to make a tackle against the Bills. He has been extremely limited all week. "It's going to depend on how it feels the next couple of days because I haven't really done much of anything on it, so I may be able to have a brace on it and go like that," Asomugha said. Asomugha has 10 tackles, one forced fumble and three pass defenses in 2008. Asomugha is a lock-down corner, but that always doesn't work well in Fantasy since teams shy away from him. Consider benching Asomugha in Fantasy Week 4.
News: Notable Raiders defenders from the club's Week 3 game at Buffalo include: LB Kirk Morrison (10 total tackles, forced fumble), SS Gibril Wilson (seven total tackles, fumble recovery), CB DeAngelo Hall (six total tackles, half-sack, interception), CB Nnamdi Asomugha (five total tackles, forced fumble), DE Kalimba Edwards (three solo tackles, sack, forced fumble), DE Derrick Burgess (four total tackles, half-sack) and DT Gerard Warren (two solo tackles, sack). LB Thomas Howard added six total tackles.
Analysis: Of these players, Morrison, Howard and Wilson are must-starts, while Hall and Asomugha are also worth consideration in deeper leagues. The Raiders host the Chargers in Week 4.
News:Raiders DB Nnamdi Asomugha was able to start Friday's preseason game against the Titans after injuring his foot during Tuesday's practice. He did not record a stat before exiting the game.
Analysis: A year after posting incredible stats, Asomugha faltered in 2007 and fell out of favor with Fantasy owners. Treat Asomugha as a good reserve Fantasy DB worth a late-round pick in drafts.
News: The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha left practice Tuesday with a left foot injury and is scheduled to have an MRI. The results of X-rays taken after practice were not immediately known.
Analysis: A year after posting incredible stats, Asomugha faltered in 2007 and fell out of favor with Fantasy owners. Treat Asomugha as a good reserve Fantasy DB worth a late-round pick in drafts if he gets cleared for practice.
News: Star Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha will sign his $9.765 million tender offer and report to training camp in time for Thursday's first practice, a person with knowledge of Asomugha's plans said Wednesday night on condition of anonymity because the contract had not been signed. Asomugha had not practiced with the team all offseason after being tagged as Oakland's exclusive franchise player. That designation prevented Asomugha from negotiating with any other team and guaranteed him the nearly $10 million salary for the upcoming season. Asomugha will team with DeAngelo Hall to give Oakland one of the league's top cornerback duos next season.
Analysis: A year after posting incredible stats, Asomugha faltered in 2007 and fell out of favor with Fantasy owners. Treat Asomugha as a good reserve Fantasy DB worth a late-round pick in drafts.
News: The Raiders and star CB Nnamdi Asomugha failed to agree on a long-term contract before Tuesday's deadline for franchised players. The Raiders placed the exclusive franchise tag on Asomugha in February, which guaranteed Asomugha more than $9 million in 2008 and did not allow him to negotiate with any other team. Asomugha has not signed the tender and has been unable to practice with the team during offseason workouts. The two sides had up until Tuesday to sign a long-term contract. With no deal in place, Asomugha will be guaranteed $9.765 million for this season as soon as he signs. Asomugha has already informed the Raiders that he will not miss any regular-season games in a holdout, but it is uncertain whether he will report to training camp when it opens next week. Asomugha will be eligible for free agency again after the upcoming season. But the Raiders could try to sign him to a long-term deal after the season or choose to use the franchise tag again, which would guarantee Asomugha about $11.7 million in 2009.
Analysis: Asomugha had only one interception last season as teams often shied away from throwing to his side of the field. The Raiders play predominantly man-to-man defense on the outside, putting more pressure on their cornerbacks than most teams. That made keeping Asomugha a priority this offseason. Asomugha will remain a Raider but is no better than a reserve Fantasy DB in 2008.
News: The Raiders placed the exclusive franchise tag on star cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha on Wednesday, keeping him from becoming an unrestricted free agent. Asomugha will be guaranteed at least $9.465 million in 2008, but could still sign a long-term deal. Because Oakland used the designation on Asomugha, he's unable to negotiate with any other team. The deadline for designating franchise players is Thursday. Asomugha could earn more money if the average salary of the top five cornerbacks in the league is higher at the end of the restricted free agency period. With Asante Samuel and Marcus Trufant among the top cornerbacks eligible for free agency, that remains a possibility. Had the Raiders used the non-exclusive tag, Asomugha would have been locked in at $9.465 million but would have been free to negotiate with other teams. Oakland could have matched any offer or chosen to receive two first-round draft picks as compensation.
Analysis: A first-round pick out of California in 2003, Asomugha struggled early in his career. He didn't intercept a single pass in his first three seasons, getting a reputation for his poor hands. But he had a breakthrough season in 2006, intercepting eight passes and becoming one of the top cover cornerbacks in the league. Asomugha had only one interception last season as teams often shied away from throwing to his side of the field. The Raiders play predominantly man-to-man defense on the outside, putting more pressure on their cornerbacks than most teams. That made keeping Asomugha a priority this offseason. Asomugha will remain a Raider but is no better than a reserve Fantasy DB in 2008.
News: Oakland's most prominent free agent is DB Nnamdi Asomugha, who is expected to be designated as the team's franchise player if he does not sign a long-term deal. As a franchise player, Asomugha would be guaranteed $9.465 million in 2008. If Asomugha signed with another team, Oakland would have the chance to match the contract or receive two first-round draft picks as compensation.
Analysis: Keep an eye on what develops with Asomugha. He is a No. 2 DB in IDP leagues heading into 2008.
News: Raiders DB Nnamdi Asomugha had three tackles Sunday at Green Bay.
Analysis: Asomugha is a low-end DB in IDP leagues and should not be used in Week 15 against the Colts.
News: Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha suffered a concussion and left the team's Week 11 loss at Oakland.
Analysis: Asomugha is a decent low-end DB in IDP league play when healthy. We'll see what develops, but he's not a safe bet to play in Week 12 at Kansas City.
News: Notable Raiders defenders from Week 11 at Minnesota include: LB Kirk Morrison (10 total tackles), DB Stanford Routt (seven solo tackles), DL Warren Sapp (six total tackles, forced fumble), CB Nnamdi Asomugha (two solo tackles, interception) and LB Chris Clemons (two tackles, two sacks, forced fumble. DE Derrick Burgess added a sack and LBs Robert Thomas and Jon Alston each had a forced fumble.
Analysis: Of these players, Morrison is the only must-start in all Fantasy leagues. Everyone else is worthy of limited consideration in IDP leagues. The Raiders play at Kansas City in Week 12.
News: Raiders DB Nnamdi Asomugha (knee) is listed as questionable for Week 11 at Miami. He returned to a full practice Friday after limited reps Wednesday and Thursday. Asomugha missed his first game of the season Week 10 against the Bears after injuring himself in Week 9.
Analysis: It is good to see Asomugha not limited on Friday, but how he reacts leading up to the game will dictate if he plays or not. Asomugha is so good that most teams now shy away from him and that kills his Fantasy value. Since he does not have any interceptions, he is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy DB. Continue to follow his progress.

News: Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell (3rd QB), QB Andrew Walter, DB Nnamdi Asomugha, DB Fabian Washington, LB Sam Williams and DL Josh Shaw are all inactive for Week 10 vs. Chicago.
Analysis: The Raiders defense suffers a big blow with Asomugha on the sidelines. He doesn't have the stats this season, but is still a viable Fantasy DB when he is not battling a knee injury. The Raiders might eventually play Russell, but his top Fantasy value still lies in long-term keeper leagues. The remaining inactive players have little to no Fantasy value at this time. Keep them all reserved for Week 10.
News: Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha (knee) did not practice Wednesday or Thursday but did practice on a limited basis on Friday and is questionable for Week 10 vs. Chicago. Asomugha went down with a left knee injury Week 9 against the Texans.
Analysis: Asomugha is so good that most teams now shy away from him and that kills his Fantasy value. Since he does not have any interceptions, he is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy DB. Check his status leading up to Week 10.
News: Raiders DB Nnamdi Asomugha (knee) did not practice Wednesday or Thursday as the team prepares for Week 10 vs. Chicago. Asomugha went down with a left knee injury Week 9 against the Texans. He had one assisted tackle before leaving the game.
Analysis: Asomugha is so good that most teams now shy away from him and that kills his Fantasy value. Since he does not have any interceptions, he is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy DB. Check his status leading up to Week 10.

News: Raiders DB Nnamdi Asomugha had three tackles Sunday against Miami.
Analysis: Consider Asomugha a decent start in IDP leagues in Week 6 against San Diego following Oakland's bye week.
News: The Contra Costa Times reports that Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha, who landed eight interceptions in 2006, can opt out of his current deal next season and become a free agent. If he does, and if he produces in 2007 like he did in 2006, he could land money close to what Nate Clements received this offseason. "When you see that type of stuff going on ... people are getting paid to play," he said. "It's definitely a positive thing when other defensive backs are getting that type of compensation."
Analysis: Asomugha has never been a big tackler, which limits his potential in IDP leagues. At best, he's a reserve Fantasy CB in the deepest of IDP leagues.
News: The Raiders defense held the Chiefs to just 20 points and 292 yards in Week 16. The Raiders had just two sacks (DL Warren Sapp and DL Kevin Huntley) and one interception (DB Nnamdi Asomugha) in a losing effort.
Analysis: The Raiders defense has been the one constant for the team in what is turning out to be a season to forget about. Consider them a possible one-week sleeper DST against the Jets in Week 17. Sapp is a solid Fantasy DL with nine sacks on the season. Also, if you haven't added Asomugha to your Fantasy lineup, do yourself a favor and make sure to pick him up for the season finale. The kid has eight interceptions on the season and gets very little respect playing for the Raiders.
News: Nnamdi Asomugha (quadriceps) is not among the inactives for the Raiders in Week 15 against the Rams.
Analysis: It appears safe to leave Asomugha in the active Fantasy lineup in all IDP leagues.
News: Raiders DB Nnamdi Asomugha (quad) is probable for Week 15 vs. St. Louis.
Analysis: Asomugha is a great Fantasy DB as he has seven interceptions on the season. He is only owned in four percent of Fantasy IDP leagues and that shouldn't be. If you are still in the playoffs, consider adding Asomugha to your Fantasy roster.
News: The Raiders wound up losing 27-10 to the Bengals in Week 14, but not before their defense got some shots in. DB Nnamdi Asomugha had two interceptions and DB Fabian Washington also picked off Bengals QB Carson Palmer. The Bengals did rack up 439 yards of offense, bringing the Raiders back down to Earth.
Analysis: The Raiders defense has been a pretty good unit over the past few weeks, but outside of three turnovers, they got whooped in total yards and points. The Rams are capable of putting up a lot of yards and points, so it is not recommended you use the Raiders DST in Week 15. Asomugha is a great Fantasy DB as he now has seven interceptions on the season. Washington could be used more as a low-end option.
News: The Raiders gave up just 260 total yards and 21 points against the Chargers in Week 12. DL Derrick Burgess and DL Thomas Kelly both had 1/2 sack. While DB Nnamdi Asomugha had an interception.
Analysis: The Raiders defense have now had four straight solid defensive performances and are starting to turn heads. They are still considered a low-end Fantasy DST, but they could be viewed as a one-week sleeper DST against the Texans in Week 13. Burgess and Asomugha are both solid Fantasy options in IDP leagues.
News: The Raiders defense gave up two rushing touchdowns to Larry Johnson in Week 11, but for the most part played pretty stingy defense against the Chiefs and only gave up 292 total yards. They managed to sack QB Trent Green twice, but forced no turnovers. Sacks went to DB Nmandi Asomugha and DL Lance Johnstone.
Analysis: The Raiders defense has now posted three consecutive solid performances, but with the Chargers looming in Week 12, it is not recommended you use the Raiders DST for Fantasy purposes. Asomugha is developing into a nice defensive back and could be used as a low-end Fantasy option.
News: DB Nnamdi Asomugha returned an interception 24 yards for a touchdown and DB Chris Carr returned one 100 yards for a touchdown as the Raiders upset the Steelers 20-13 in Week 8. The Steelers racked up 360 yards but could not overcome four interceptions thrown by QB Ben Roethlisberger. DB Fabian Washington and LB Kirk Morrison had the other interceptions. The Raiders defense also harrassed Roethlisberger for five sacks on the day. DL Derrick Burgess had 2 1/2 to run his total to 7 1/2 on the season. DL Thomas Kelly had 1 1/2 sacks and DL Warren Sapp had the other. Asomugha and Morrison both led the team in tackles with nine.
Analysis: Don't get too excited. This is by far the best performance the Raiders defense has turned in this season. They do have the league's best pass defense, but somehow they still managed to get beat on a weekly basis. They are worth keeping an eye on, but they are not a recommended Fantasy DST for Week 9 against the Seahawks. Asomugha has turned into a surprising IDP player and could be used as a viable No. 2 or No. 3 DB. Morrison and Burgess as solid Fantasy uses. While Sapp and Kelly are marginal Fantasy players and should be used when the matchup is favorable. Carr and Washington are not recommended IDP players.
News: DB Nnamdi Asomugha (foot), DB Fabian Washington (hamstring) and LB Sam Williams (ankle) were all able to play in Week 4 against the Browns.
