News: On Monday the Bills announced the release of veteran safety George Wilson and linebacker Nick Barnett. Wilson had over 100 total tackles in each of the last two seasons with 11 passes defensed over that span. Barnett actually led the team in tackles each of the last two seasons with 112 this year and 130 in 2011.
Analysis: The moves will allow the Bills to get younger (and cheaper) at both positions. Both should land on their feet and have a chance to contribute to Fantasy owners in 2013.

Analysis: Barnett has served as one of the few consistent options on defense since joining Buffalo prior to the 2011 campaign, recording 100-plus tackles in both seasons. The 31-year-old also managed two sacks and posted a career-high three forced fumbles. Though he is growing older, Fantasy owners should Barnett as a solid in the middle rounds of IDP drafts heading into 2013.

News: Bills linebacker Nick Barnett forced a fumble Week 13 against the Jaguars, but he had a relatively quiet afternoon as far as tackles go. He finished with five, including three solo. He's averaging 5.5 tackles over his last eight games after averaging 9.5 over his first four.
Analysis: Barnett isn't an especially good source of sacks or interceptions, so without the tackles, he doesn't have much value in Fantasy IDP leagues. Given his lack of tackles recently, he might be a little over-owned. He's viable and everything, but he's far from a high-end option.
News: Bills linebacker Nick Barnett posted five tackles in Thursdays game against the Dolphins in Week 11, in a 19-14 win. Barnett had two solo tackles, with no other statistics in the box score.
Analysis: Barnett has been solid, but unspectacular for the Bills all season. He has 72 tackles through 10 games, and should be well on the way to his eighth career 100-tackle season. He remains a decent Fantasy option in deeper IDP formats.

Analysis: Barnett has one 15-tackle game this season in the first meeting with New England. He couldn't make consistent stops against the Patriots Week 10, however, and only has 67 tackles to this point in the year. The 31-year-old has slowed down this season and should only be active in deeper IDP formats heading into Week 11.

He should be left active in most Fantasy IDP leagues at this point.

Analysis: Barnett was all over the field Sunday and actually has been playing lights out of late. News: Bills LB Nick Barnett recorded 11 tackles, including three solo, Week 17 at New England, giving him 130 for the season. He also had an interception -- his third of the season.
Analysis: In his first season with the Bills after eight with the Packers, Barnett was as reliable as ever with the tackles and contributed his share of big plays as well. News: Buffalo LB Nick Barnett amassed seven tackles and a sack during the Bills' 35-8 loss to Miami in Week 11. Barnett took down Dolphins QB Matt Moore for his second sack over his past four games. It was Buffalo's lone sack of the game.
Analysis: Barnett has been the Bills' most consistent defender and is one tackle shy of the team lead held by DB George Wilson (79). His sacks have been inconsistent in recent seasons because of injuries but now that's healthy, he remains a strong option in Fantasy IDP formats.

He has returned from an injury-plagued 2010 to become a high-end Fantasy LB again. Keep him active as long as he's healthy enough to play.
News: Bills LB Nick Barnett (ankle) is listed as questionable for Week 6 at N.Y. Giants. However, coach Chan Gailey is expecting him to play.

"He brought a little bit more of an edge to our team ... plus he's talented, on top of all that," Gailey said Thursday. "He's mentally tough and talented. He's been a great boost for our defense." News: Bills LB Nick Barnett totaled 11 tackles (six solo) in Week 3 against the Patriots. He now has 29 tackles in three games.

News: Bills LB Nick Barnett led all tacklers with 14 in Week 2 against the Raiders. He was also credited with a tackle for a loss.
Analysis: Barnett has been productive in his career when healthy, but that has been a question mark of late. Along with the season-ending wrist injury last season, Barnett had a knee injury just as costly in 2008. When healthy, however, he has proven to be a viable IDP play in larger leagues.
News: Free agent LB Nick Barnett, who was released by the Packers on Friday, said he has signed with the Bills. Via Twitter, he posted: "God has blessed me once again to be part of a great organization.. Great coaches, Great staff, Great players and more importantly great fans ... #GOBILLS." Barnett had an injury-shortened 2010 season.
Analysis: Barnett has been productive in his career when healthy, but that has been a question mark of late. Along with the season-ending wrist injury last season, Barnett had a knee injury just as costly in 2008. If he can regain his health and adjust to the Bills' version of the 3-4 scheme, Barnett can once again be considered a solid Fantasy LB. Select him with a late pick on Draft Day in IDP formats.
News: As anticipated, the Packers announced Friday that they releases LB Nick Barnett along with several other veterans. He is out of the picture after eight solid seasons in the middle of the defense, ranking second all-tine franchise list with 1,014 career tackles (703 solo). Barnett didn't finish his tenure with Green Bay on a good note, missing 12 games in 2010 with a severe wrist injury.
Analysis: Barnett started in 107 games with the Packers since drafting him out of Oregon State in 2003. He has been productive in his career when healthy, but that has been a question mark of late. Along with the season-ending wrist injury last season, Barnett had a knee injury just as costly in 2008. If he can regain his health and latch on to a team in a good situation this season, the former first-round pick will be worth a late pick on Draft Day in IDP formats. Stay tuned.
News:Nick Barnett waved as he drove out of the parking lot, marking what appears to be the fiery linebacker's last time at Lambeau Field as a player for the Green Bay Packers. Barnett was among the first Packers to return to Lambeau when the doors to team facilities re-opened to players on Tuesday morning. He didn't stay long and then posted a series of messages on his Twitter account making it clear he had been told his time with the Packers is over. "Just met with Ted," Barnett posted, presumably referring to Packers general manager Ted Thompson. "Thanks for the great 8 years." Barnett said he was "very blessed" to be a part of "such a great tradition and great fans."
Analysis: Barnett, who finished last season on injured reserve after hurting his right wrist Oct. 3, said he was happy to be part of the team's run to the Super Bowl championship last season and "will always keep a special place in my heart for this team and city." Barnett has been a cornerstone of the defense since the Packers took him in the first round of the 2003 draft. He has started 107 regular season and six playoff games in eight seasons. But his relationship with the team was strained during last year's Super Bowl run. When Barnett found out that injured players wouldn't be a part of the Packers' team photo taken a few days before the Super Bowl, Barnett voiced complaints on his Twitter account. The team eventually relented and allowed injured players to participate in the photo, but the issue became a distraction as the team prepared for the game against the Steelers. Barnett also has finished two of the past three seasons on injured reserve, including a season-ending right knee injury in 2008. Barnett could be an injury-risk Fantasy sleeper depending on where he signs, so track his progress.
News: Coach Mike McCarthy said this week that if the season started tomorrow, A.J. Hawk and Desmond Bishop would be the starting ILBs and Nick Barnett would be a backup. Asked about where Barnett stood in the mix, McCarthy said, "We have to see how he comes off the wrist."
Analysis: With the Packers loaded at linebacker, the team might deal Barnett before the start of the 2011 season. With his ability to play in a 4-3 or a 3-4, the landing spots for him could be quite plentiful. So assuming he heals, Barnett might still be worth drafting late in Fantasy leagues.
News: The Green Bay Press-Gazette reports that Packers LB Nick Barnett will get the pin removed from his broken wrist Thursday, and after a few days of rest will get back to training for the 2011 season. The question is whether hell be with the Packers or another team. The Packers have four inside linebackers making starter-type salaries: Barnett, A.J. Hawk, Desmond Bishop and Brandon Chillar. They likely are willing to keep three of them at that pay level, but its unlikely theyll keep all four at that cost when only two are the field at a time. They committed to Bishop by signing him to a contract extension in December. Chillars salary and roster bonus are for 2011 are $2.3 million, which is the lowest of the group by far. So it appears likely either Barnett ($5.9 million salary and roster bonus) or Hawk wont be back Hawk would have to sign a new contract, because hes due to make $10 million this year. Thats going to be (the Packers) decision, Barnett said. For me, Im under contract for two more years, thats how Im going to look at it. Im going to perform and compete like I always compete, show up for camp and try to be the best (linebacker) I can.
Analysis: Keep an eye on Barnett and where he ends up playing in 2011. When healthy, Barnett is worth drafting with a late-round pick in IDP leagues.
News: The Packers placed LB Nick Barnett (wrist) on injured reserve Friday, ending his season.
Analysis: Barnett, who hurt his wrist in Week 4 against Detroit, was thinking about having surgery, and apparently will do so. Feel free to drop him in all IDP Fantasy formats at this point.
News: Coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that a timetable for LB Nick Barnett would be determined once the doctors get a look at the injury. Barnett may have to be put on injured reserve if the recovery is too long. He missed Sunday's game at Washington with a wrist injury that will likely require surgery. "Although I will be out a extended time, I still fully believe we will get this on track," Barnett posted on Twitter Monday. "It is really hard not be doing something you love. Harder to watch someone else. ... I will be back stronger and more motivated then ever!! Watch!!"
Analysis: Barnett is a No. 3 LB in IDP leagues when healthy. Keep an eye on his prognosis heading into Week 6 against the Dolphins, but he will likely be out for several weeks. It might be time to release him in the majority of IDP formats.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett (wrist) was officially listed among the inactives for Week 5 against Washington.
Analysis: Barnett is waiting to decide whether to have surgery on his injured wrist. He's likely to miss at least a couple of weeks if he doesn't and the rest of the season if he does. Looks elsewhere in IDP Fantasy leagues for now.
News: The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that Packers LB Nick Barnett is still not ready to decide on whether to have surgery on his wrist. Barnett met with a specialist Friday and will now talk to team doctor Pat McKenzie. He has been ruled out for Week 5 at Washington.
Analysis: A lot of folks are comparing this injury to the season-ending one Brian Urlacher suffered in 2009. Even if Barnett does end up not having surgery, he is likely going to need some time to rest, so Fantasy owners should take him out of IDP lineups until further notice.
News: Packers coach Mike McCarthy said no decision has been made on LB Nick Barnett's wrist injury. He will receive a second opinion on Friday morning, and then a decision on surgery will be made.
Analysis: A lot of folks are comparing this injury to the season-ending one Brian Urlacher suffered in 2009. Even if Barnett postpones surgery, he is likely going to need some time to rest, so Fantasy owners should take him out of IDP lineups until further notice.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett left the Week 4 win against Detroit with a wrist injury, but came back and finished the game with a cast over it. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Barnett needs season-ending surgery and now it is only a matter of when. He will receive a second opinion on the injury by Friday.
Analysis: Obviously Barnett will lean on the second opinion but the solution seems to be surgery. Barnett missed the latter half of the 2008 season after having knee surgery. Monitor the status of Barnett's second opinion over the next few days before any move is made. He will most likely be ruled out for Week 5 at Washington, regardless of the opinion. When healthy, Barnett is a solid No. 2 Fantasy LB.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett had to miss some time in the first half of Week 4 against the Lions as he was getting X-rays on his right wrist. He did return to the game with a cast on his hand and finished with 10 tackles (seven solo). He had one quarterback hit.
Analysis: Barnett said X-rays on his right wrist were negative, and he said he'll continue to play as long as it's not broken. Barnett had his first game with at least 10 tackles in Week 4. Barnett is off to a slow start this season, but as long as he is in the lineup, then he can pass as a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy LB until he starts reeling off some nice stat lines.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett had a slow game against the Bears in Week 3. He recorded just one tackle in the 20-17 loss.
Analysis: Barnett had recorded 13 tackles with a pass defended in the first two games this season but did not have a whole lot of success against the Bears in Week 3. Hopefully this does not become a trend as the former Beaver has been a top producer with over 100 tackles in six of his seven years in the NFL. Continue to view Barnett as a No. 2 Fantasy LB in IDP formats heading into Week 4 against the Lions.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett managed nine tackles in Week 2 against the Bills. He finished the game tied for the team lead in tackles.
Analysis: Barnett looks fully recovered from offseason knee surgery. While Barnett's tackle total dropped 20 in 2009 from his previous full campaign, the veteran remains worth a look in IDP league as a No. 2 Fantasy LB when healthy.
News: Green Bay LB Nick Barnett had two tackles in Sunday's Week 1 win over Philadelphia. The veteran is coming off offseason knee surgery.
Analysis: Barnett looks healthy, which is a good sign, making him a No. 2 Fantasy LB in IDP leagues. With other talented linebackers, tackles may be hard to come by, but he's averages 79 tackles per year over his seven seasons in the league.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett (knee) returned to action for Thursday's preseason game against the Colts. He did not make the trip to Seattle for the team's second preseason game against the Seahawks. Barnett started the game and made one tackle in the game.
Analysis: Barnett is recovering from offseason knee surgery, but the fact he played in Thursday's "dress rehearsal" game is a good sign he'll be ready to start the season. While Barnett's tackle total dropped 20 in 2009 from his previous full campaign, the veteran remains worth a look in IDP league as a No. 2 Fantasy LB when healthy.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett did not make the trip to Seattle for Saturday's second preseason game against the Seahawks. He is recovering from offseason knee surgery.
Analysis: The Packers are either taking things easy with their starting inside linebacker or Barnett is still having trouble with his knee. While Barnett's tackle total dropped 20 in 2009 from his previous full campaign, the veteran remains worth a look in IDP league as a No. 2 Fantasy LB when healthy.
News: Green Bay LB Nick Barnett had a solid performance on Sunday in a Week 16 win over Seattle. He led the team in tackles, recording nine, and was able to sack QB Matt Hasselbeck. Barnett increased his tackles total to 100 on the season with the performance.
Analysis: Barnett is a decent tackler, but he normally doesn't get to the quarterback all that often. Think of him as a No. 2 LB in Fantasy IDP leagues.
News: Playing on Thanksgiving Day at Detroit, notable Packers defenders included: LBs Nick Barnett and A.J. Hawk (10 total tackles each), CB Tramon Williams (five solo tackles, interception), FS Nick Collins (three solo tackles, interception) and LB Clay Matthews (two total tackles, sack).
Analysis: Of these defenders, Burnett, Collins and Hawk are worth owning in Fantasy play, though Matthews is an up-and-comer. These defenders should be useful again in Week 13 vs. the Ravens.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett, who entered the game with only one sack on the year, recorded two Week 10 against the Cowboys. He finished with eight tackles, including six solo.
Analysis: Barnett is a decent tackler, but he normally doesn't get so many sacks. Think of him as a No. 2 LB in Fantasy IDP leagues.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett led the way in a Week 8 loss to the Vikings with nine tackles. Also contributing were DL Ryan Pickett (six tackles), LB Clay Matthews (five tackles), DB Tramon Williams (five tackles) and DB Atari Bigby (five tackles).
Analysis: Barnett is a decent starting LB in deeper IDP leagues, while Matthews and Bigby have minimal bench value in the same formats. The other two can be ignored in Week 9 at Tampa Bay.
News: Green Bay LB A.J. Hawk led the team with eight tackles Week 7 in an easy win at Cleveland. Nick Barnett finished second on the team with six tackles.
Analysis: Hawk had been struggling in recent weeks and had seen his role reduced but turned it around against a terrible Browns team. Barnett has 37 tackles on the season and is also a low-end Fantasy option in IDP leagues. Both guys are only decent plays Week 8 against Minnesota.
News: Green Bay LBs Nick Barnett and Brandon Chillar tied for the team lead in tackles on Monday night in a loss to the Vikings. Barnett and Chillar each had 10 tackles.
Analysis: Barnett now has 22 tackles on the season and Chillar has 26. Both are solid Fantasy IDP players but should be benched Week 5. That is because the Packers have a bye. They will return to being good options Week 6 against the Lions.
News: Packers LB Aaron Kampman had seven tackles Sunday against Cincinnati. He got help from LB A.J. Hawk (four tackles), LB Nick Barnett (three tackles), DL Cullen Jenkins (two tackles, one sack) and LB Brandon Chillar (two tackles).
Analysis: The Packers should do well in Week 3 at the Rams. Start all your regular Packers defenders in IDP leagues at St. Louis.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett appears to be 100 percent for Week 1. "He's ready to go," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said of Barnett, who is coming back from a season-ending knee injury last year. McCarthy hasn't stated if Barnett will start or how much he'll contribute. "He'll be playing Sunday night," McCarthy said.
Analysis: Barnett will have to get used to a new 3-4 scheme in Green Bay and might be in for a down year if the knee is still bothering him. Where possible, give him a week or two to see where he's at before activating him again.
News: Green Bay LB Nick Barnett was able to return to action on Thursday in a preseason game against the Titans. He made two tackles in the game.
Analysis: Barnett's ACL injury ended his 2008 regular season, so it's good to see him back in game action on Thursday. The LB will have to get used to a new 3-4 scheme in Green Bay and might be in for a down year if the knee is still bothering him. Think of him as a low-end IDP option on Draft Day.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett did not play in Friday's preseason game against the Cardinals with a knee injury as expected. He is considered questionable for the team's preseason finale at Tennessee on Thursday.
Analysis: Barnett's injury is not considered to be a serious one and Fantasy owners should not hesitate to pick him up on Draft Day. It's not a lock that he'll be a good Fantasy option this season, so your best bet is to pick him up with a late-round pick as a No. 3 or 4 LB option.
News: The Green Bay Press Gazette reports that LB Nick Barnett (knee) is considered doubtful for Friday's preseason game at Arizona. Barnett, who hasn't played since tearing an ACL last Nov. 9 at Minnesota, wrote on Twitter that it "looks like I will not be playing against AZ. Nothing wrong with knee just sticking to the plan."
Analysis: It doesn't sound like Barnett's injury is too serious. When healthy, Barnett provides a nice source of tackles, but not only must he get his knee fit, he must also learn all the nuances of the Packers' upgraded 3-4 scheme. It's not a lock that he'll be a good Fantasy option this season, so your best bet is to pick him up with a late-round pick as a No. 3 or 4 LB option.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett sat out Saturday's preseason win over the Bills as he continues to recover from a torn ACL he suffered last year.
Analysis: When healthy, Barnett, who is aiming to return for the next preseason game, provides a nice source of tackles and some other stats. But not only must he get his knee fit, he must also learn all the nuances of the Packers' upgraded 3-4 scheme. It's not a lock that he'll be a good Fantasy option this season, so your best bet is to pick him up with a late-round pick as a No. 3 or 4 LB option.
News: The Green Bay Packers break training camp Friday, but decisions on playing time at the linebacker spots have yet to be settled. Brandon Chillar, who has been filling in with the first-team defense while Nick Barnett recovers from a knee injury, has arguably been the team's best linebacker during camp, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. And Desmond Bishop is beginning to show that he's more than a special teams ace. With room for four starting linebackers in the Packers' new 3-4 scheme, as many as eight players are jockeying for top spots. About the only linebacker whose starting job appears to be safe is Aaron Kampman, a two-time Pro Bowl defensive end who was moved to left-side outside linebacker in the offseason. The other outside linebacker spot is up for grabs while Chillar and Bishop are pushing for the inside spots held by Barnett and A.J. Hawk.
Analysis: The Packers might be in the market for a trade in the next couple of weeks. Of these players, Kampman is a decent No. 2 Fantasy option since he'll get a lot of sacks but not a lot of tackles as a pass-rushing linebacker (not a defensive end). Hawk's stats should improve, especially if Barnett doesn't play right away. Chillar and Bishop are no better than late-round sleepers in IDP leagues.
News:Nick Barnett isn't all the way back from the knee injury that ended his 2008 season, but the veteran Green Bay Packers linebacker took a big step forward Monday when he practiced for the first time in training camp. The Packers activated Barnett from the physically unable to perform list Monday morning, allowing him to practice for the first time since tearing the ACL in his right knee last Nov. 9 at Minnesota. While he was withheld from 11-on-11 team periods, Barnett took part in individual drills, the jog-through sessions and 7-on-7 work - all of which he said he enjoyed. "It felt great to be out there," said Barnett, who sat out all of the team's offseason organized team activity practices and the mandatory minicamp. "The knee felt great. I don't think I was babying it. I felt good hitting the bags, throwing the pads on with the helmet. The next step is hitting some people. But we'll take it one step at a time."
Analysis: Barnett provides a nice source of tackles and some other stats but he's not out of the woods just yet. He must continue to get his knee healthy and learn the Packers' upgraded 3-4 scheme. It's not a lock that he'll be a good Fantasy option this season, so your best bet is to pick him up with a late-round pick as a No. 3 or 4 LB option.
News:Nick Barnett, rehabbing from a torn ACL suffered last season at Minnesota, is pointing to the third preseason game, though he still hasn't been cleared to practice.
Analysis: When healthy, Barnett provides a nice source of tackles and some other stats. But not only must he get his knee fit, he must also learn all the nuances of the Packers' upgraded 3-4 scheme. It's not a lock that he'll be a good Fantasy option this season, so your best bet is to pick him up with a late-round pick as a No. 3 or 4 LB option.
News: The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports Packers LB Nick Barnett is trying to come back from last year's knee injury. Seven months after tearing his right ACL and undergoing surgery Nov. 20, Barnett has just recently begun to run, jump, cut and plant on the still-healing leg. "There's a lot of injuries that I've gotten back on the field too soon," Barnett said. "This is one of those that you don't get back on the field too soon because it'll have long-term effects on my career. So I'm just going to wait until I'm ready. I'm running pretty good; I feel pretty good. It's still more mental than it is physical at this point. It's being confident on planting on that knee. I think that will come in time with repetition and putting it through those activities."
Analysis: Barnett expects to be back for training camp, which is something to monitor. When healthy, Barnett is a No. 2 LB in IDP leagues, so hopefully he can return at 100 percent.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett will have surgery to repair his torn right knee ligament Thursday. Barnett said Sunday that he is expected to need six to eight months of recovery time. The Packers have already ruled him out for the season.
Analysis: Barnett wasn't performing up to standards this season, but he was good enough to use as a No. 2 Fantasy LB. Don't bother with him the rest of this season, obviously.
News: Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that linebacker Barnett tore a right knee ligament in Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings, which the Packers lost 28-27. Surgery has not yet been scheduled. It's a major blow to an already-suspect run defense which gave up 192 yards rushing to Vikings running back Adrian Peterson on Sunday.
Analysis: Barnett wasn't performing up to standards this season but was good enough to use as a No. 2 Fantasy LB. Desmond Bishop and Brandon Chillar will likely split time in Barnett's spot until one of them proves to be the best linebacker. Barnett should be dropped from all leagues while Bishop and Chillar are at best low-end fliers in the deepest of Fantasy Football leagues.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett had five tackles Sunday at Minnesota.
Analysis: Barnett is a No. 2 LB in IDP leagues and is worth starting in all formats in Week 11 against Chicago.
News: In a 19-16 loss at Tennessee, notable Packers defenders include: DL Mike Montgomery (10 total tackles, sack), LBs Nick Barnett, A.J. Hawk and Brady Poppinga and DB Atari Bigby (six total tackles each) and DT Ryan Pickett (six total tackles, sack). Charles Woodson added five total tackles.
Analysis: Of the above, Barnett, Hawk, Bigby and Woodson are worth owning in IDP league play. Everyone else isn't worth holding on to. The Packers play at the Vikings in Week 10.
News: Packers LB Brady Poppinga (12 tackles), DB Aaron Rouse (seven tackles) and LB Nick Barnett (seven tackles) helped out in a Week 4 loss to the Buccaneers.
Analysis: Barnett is a solid starting LB in all IDP Fantasy leagues, while Poppinga and Rouse have minimal value. Rouse does have 19 tackles in his last two games, however, so might be worth looking at in Week 5 against the Packers as a bye-week replacement.
News: Packers linebacker Nick Barnett said Friday he would appeal the second fine he received in as many weeks from the NFL. Barnett was fined $7,500 earlier this week for a helmet-to-helmet contact on a hit of Detroit quarterback Jon Kitna in the last game. "I know they're trying to protect the players, but at the same time, we're trying to play football," Barnett said. "Do I think mine is an official fine? I don't think I hit him hard enough with my helmet." Barnett was fined $7,500 last week for a horse-collar tackle of Minnesota quarterback Tarvaris Jackson in the Packers' opener Sept. 8.
Analysis: The fines leveled against Barnett for his game conduct have come as NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is putting an emphasis on player safety. Goodell sent a memo to teams this week warning that players who endanger the safety of other players would be subject to increased disciplinary measures. "It's hard to play physical without playing physical," said Barnett, who wasn't called for a penalty for either punishable act in the last two games. Despite the fines, it's hard to imagine Barnett easing up on Sundays. Continue to view him as a solid Fantasy LB.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett had two tackles Sunday at Detroit.
Analysis: Despite the low totals, Barnett is a solid LB in IDP leagues and should be used in Week 3 against Dallas.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett led the team with eight solo tackles Week 1 against the Vikings.
Analysis: Barnett has managed 100-plus tackles his first five NFL seasons and should make it six in-a-row in 2008. Barnett remains a No. 1 Fantasy LB.
News: Packers MLB Nick Barnett continued to load up on tackles in 2007, finishing with 131 total hits with 3.5 sacks (a career-high), two interceptions and four passes defensed.
Analysis: Barnett's totals made him a top-10 Fantasy LB in standard IDP leagues that reward tackles. Expected to continue on as a monster linebacker, peg Barnett as an early- to middle-round choice in 2008 drafts.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett (hamstring) took limited practice reps Wednesday and Thursday as the team prepares for the NFC Championship game vs. the N.Y. Giants. Barnett amassed 131 tackles in 16 games this season. He also had 3 1/2 sacks and two interceptions.
Analysis: Barnett dealt with the same injury leading up to the Divisional Playoff game against Seattle, but played and was effective. He will face the Giants and remains a solid Fantasy LB in postseason formats. Barnett will also be a No. 1 Fantasy LB on Draft Day 2008.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett took limited practice reps Thursday because of a hamstring injury as the team prepares for a Divisional Playoff game vs. Seattle. Barnett amassed 131 tackles in 16 games this season. He also had 3 1/2 sacks and two interceptions.
Analysis: Barnett had another stellar season and continues to be one of the more underrated linebackers in the NFL. He has emerged as a solid Fantasy LB and should be used in most postseason formats. Unless he has a major setback, he should face the Seahawks. Barnett will be a No. 1 Fantasy LB on Draft Day 2008.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett had 11 tackles in Week 16 at Chicago.
Analysis: Barnett is having another great year, having topped 100 tackles already, and deserves to start in pretty much all Fantasy IDP formats.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett had 13 tackles in Week 15 at St. Louis, including two sacks.
Analysis: Barnett plead not guilty Tuesday to two charges of disorderly conduct stemming from a confrontation outside a nightclub. That didn't seem to affect him on Sunday. Continue to start him in all IDP formats in Week 16 at Chicago and beyond.
News: Packers linebacker Nick Barnett plead not guilty Tuesday to two charges of disorderly conduct stemming from a confrontation outside a nightclub. Barnett, a five-year starter, was arrested early June 17 outside an Appleton nightspot after a woman accused him of pushing her during an argument. The club owner, Kathy Peotter, has said the whole event was overblown and that the woman threw a drink on Barnett before he allegedly shoved her and was arrested.
Analysis: Barnett is having another great year, having topped 100 tackles already, and deserves to start in pretty much all Fantasy IDP formats. We don't expect his legal circumstances to interfere with his play.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett had 10 tackles Sunday against Oakland.
Analysis: Barnett is a No. 2 Fantasy LB and should be started in all leagues in Week 15 at St. Louis.
News: LB Nick Barnett had eight tackles at Detroit in a Thanksgiving Day matchup Thursday afternoon.
Analysis: Barnett remains a solid starter in all IDP Fantasy formats as he'll have his hands full against the Cowboys on Thursday in Week 13 at Dallas.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett (nine tackles), LB A.J. Hawk (nine tackles), DB Atari Bigby (eight tackles), LB Brady Poppinga (five tackles), DL Aaron Kampman (five tackles) and DL Corey Williams (four tackles, two sacks) all helped out in Green Bay's 31-17 win over the Panthers in Week 11.
Analysis: Barnett and Kampman are solid No. 1's at their respective positions in IDP leagues, while Hawk, Woodson and Bigby also have value as starters. Start them, but not Williams, Poppinga, in Week 12 when Green Bay visits Detroit on Thanksgiving afternoon.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett made five tackles and had a pass defended in Green Bay's 34-0 win over the Vikings in Week 10.
Analysis: Barnett remains a No. 1 LB in all IDP formats, even though his tackle totals have declined over the past couple of games. Start him against the Panthers in Week 11 and hope he can return to double digits.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett had four tackles Sunday at Kansas City.
Analysis: Barnett is a No. 1 LB and should be used in all IDP leagues Week 10 against Minnesota.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett had nine tackles -- six solo -- in a Week 8 win at Denver. He also recovered a Jay Cutler fumble in the second quarter.
Analysis: Barnett is a tackling machine. He now has 65 on the season to go along with 1.5 sacks and two interceptions. Start him as a No. 1 LB in all Fantasy IDP leagues. The Packers visit the Chiefs in Week 9.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett had 12 tackles Sunday against Washington.
Analysis: Barnett is a No. 1 LB and should be used in all IDP leagues. The Packers are off in Week 7, so keep Barnett reserved. They play at Denver in Week 8, and Barnett is a definite starting option.
News: Packers linebacker Nick Barnett was charged Tuesday with two counts of disorderly conduct stemming from an altercation with two women in a bar this summer. "We will enter not-guilty pleas to the two charges and will defend these charges aggressively," lawyer Avi Berk said. The Packers, who gave the 26-year-old Barnett a six-year, $34.85 million contract extension in April, have monitored the situation since Barnett's arrest, but have previously declined to comment. The two misdemeanor charges carry a maximum combined penalty of six months in jail and a $2,000 fine.
Analysis: NFL spokesman Randall Liu has said that the case is subject to league review under the terms of the NFL's personal-conduct policy. Barnett may be suspended for violating that policy, so keep your eyes peeled for more on this if you own him in IDP leagues. He's a good No. 2 Fantasy LB on a weekly basis.
News: Nick Barnett made six solo stops with three assists in Week 5 against the Bears. He was also credited with two quarterback hurries and 1 1/2 sacks.
Analysis: Barnett is a solid option in all IDP Fantasy leagues for when the Packers host the Redskins in Week 6.
News: Notable Packers defenders from Week 4 at Minnesota include: LB Nick Barnett (eight total tackles), LB A.J. Hawk (eight total tackles), DB Jarrett Bush (six solo tackles), DT Ryan Pickett (five solo tackles, sack), CB Charles Woodson (seven total tackles), DB Atari Bigby (four total tackles, interception, forced fumble), DE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (three solo hits, two sacks, forced fumble) and DE Aaron Kampman (two tackles, sack).
Analysis: Barrett, Hawk and Kampman are must-start IDP options in all leagues, while Pickett, Woodson, Bush and Gbaja-Biamila are useful as reserves or low-end starters in deeper leagues. The Packers host the Bears in Week 5.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett had seven tackles and an interception Sunday against San Diego. He just missed scoring a touchdown in the fourth quarter on the interception.
Analysis: Barnett is a solid LB and should be started in Week 4 against Minnesota.
News: According to The Sports Xchange, Green Bay MLB Nick Barnett learned Wednesday that he will be charged with two misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct for his alleged altercation with a woman at an establishment in Appleton, Wis., in June. Special prosecutor Ray Pelrine said he would file the formal complaint in Outagamie County Circuit Court in Appleton, probably within the next three weeks. Barnett faces a jail sentence of up to 90 days and a $1,000 fine for each charge if he's convicted.
Analysis: These charges probably don't warrant a league-imposed suspension for Barnett, but he does face possible fines from the league. Even if he does serve jail time, it will likely be during the offseason. Barnett is a No. 1 LB and should be started in all IDP leagues. He is a great option in Week 2 at home vs. the Giants.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett had 13 tackles and an interception Sunday against the Eagles.
Analysis: Barnett is a No. 1 LB and should be started in all IDP leagues. He is a great option in Week 2 against the Giants.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett was arrested early Sunday after a disturbance at a nightclub. Police said in a statement that Barnett was taken into custody for battery after allegedly being involved in a physical altercation about 2 a.m. He was taken to Outagamie County Jail in Appleton and released within an hour after posting a $500 cash bond. Barnett appeared for a charity softball event later Sunday, participating in a preliminary game involving Packers players and sponsors. But he left the field before the regular game and didn't return.
Analysis: Barnett is in his fifth year with the Packers, who selected him in the first round of the 2003 draft. He's been the starting MLB since his rookie season. The Packers gave Barnett a six-year, $34.85 million contract extension in April. Hopefully Barnett will not face any suspensions, but continue to monitor the situation.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett will receive more than $10 million in the first season of his new six-year deal with Green Bay. Barnett, 25, has led the Packers in tackles in three of his four NFL seasons. A 6-foot-2, 232-pounder, Barnett was to make $1.95 million in base salary this season, the last year of his original rookie contract.
Analysis: Barnett is a solid No. 2 Fantasy LB and should continue to put up good numbers in 2007.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett totaled 105 tackles (62 solo), two sacks, one fumble recovery, seven pass deflections and two interceptions in 2006.
Analysis: Barnett's tackle numbers took a hit, likely because of the presence of A.J. Hawk playing to Barnett's side for the 2006 season. Expect Barnett to remain a No. 2 Fantasy LB despite Hawk's presence in Green Bay next season.
News: According to Packersnews.com, the Packers are open to extending LB Nick Barnett's contract this off-season and have had amiable preliminary talks with his agent. However, the chances of finishing a deal anytime soon depend in large part on Pro Bowl LB Lance Briggs signing a long-term deal with Chicago early this offseason, and also the kind of deal General Manager Ted Thompson and Barnett are willing to accept based off that. Barnett has one year left on his rookie contract at a salary of $691,000, but he has wanted to extend that since last season.
Analysis: Part of the market for linebackers was set late last year, when Minnesota's E.J. Henderson signed a five-year, $25 million deal in December that included a $10 million signing bonus. Barnett surely will want a better deal. Briggs, 26, has become one of the NFL's top linebackers and was selected for his second Pro Bowl this season. He'll be a free agent on March 2, but the Bears are trying to sign him to a long-term deal before then, and if they can't, they're expected to use their franchise tag on him. That would guarantee Briggs a $7.2 million salary this year, though the Bears would try to reach a long-term agreement sometime in the offseason. Barnett, who turns 26 in May, doesn't have Briggs' credentials — he hasn't been to a Pro Bowl — but he's one of the Packers' best young players and a core member of the defense. He's also proven to be durable. In four seasons as their middle linebacker, he has missed only one game. Last season, he broke his hand against New England on Nov. 19, then sat out the following week at Seattle before playing the rest of the season wearing a cast.
News: The Packers DST got two interceptions and a fumble recovery against the 49ers. DB Nick Collins had six tackles and an interception. LB A.J. Hawk had five tackles and an interception. LB Nick Barnett had six tackles. DB Charles Woodson had two tackles and a fumble recovery. DL Aaron Kampman had five tackles and a half-sack. DL Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila had one tackle. DL Cullen Jenkins had two tackles and a half-sack.
Analysis: The Packers DST should not be used in Week 15 against Detroit but use all regular IDP players as needed.
News: The Packers have named the following people on their injury report: TE David Martin (ribs), RB P.J. Pope (hamstring) and LB Ben Taylor (hamstring) as questionable; LB Nick Barnett (hand), CB Patrick Dendy (concussion), RB Ahman Green (knee), RB Noah Herron (ankle) and CB Charles Woodson (shoulder) as probable. Of this group, Martin, Green and Woodson did not practice on Wednesday.
Analysis: Of Martin, Pope and Taylor, only Martin would receive consideration in the deepest of Fantasy leagues at this point when healthy. Everyone probable should be expected to play at San Francisco in Week 14, but only Green and Barnett should be used for Fantasy purposes.
News: Notable Packers defenders from Week 13 vs. the Jets include: LB A.J. Hawk (eight solo tackles), DB Nick Collins (nine total tackles, forced fumble), LB Nick Barnett (11 total tackles) and DB Marquand Manuel (seven total tackles). CB Charles Woodson and DB Patrick Dendy each had an interception.
Analysis: Of these players, Hawk, Barnett and Collins are must-starts in IDP leagues, with Manuel an option in deeper formats. Use them at San Francisco in Week 14.
News: Green Bay LB Nick Barnett got through his first full practice with a padded club on his broken right hand and was optimistic he would be able to play against the New York Jets on Sunday. "It felt OK," he said Wednesday in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "I thought I did pretty good. I'm hopeful that I'll be able to play but I'm not going to say it's 100% that I'll play. I'm going to try to do everything I can, everything possible, to play this week." Barnett was listed on the injury report as questionable. He'll face another hurdle Thursday when he practices in pads with the bulky club for the first time. Barnett broke his hand against New England on Nov. 19 and was inactive for the Packers' 34-24 loss at Seattle on Monday night. It was the first game he missed since Nov. 27, 2003.
Analysis: Consider Barnett a No. 2 LB in IDP leagues.
News: Packers LB Ben Taylor (hamstring) is doubtful, TE David Martin (ribs), RB P.J. Pope (hamstring) and LB Nick Barnett (hand) are questionable, while DL Cullen Jenkins (Illness) and DB Charles Woodson (shoulder) is listed as probable for Week 13 vs. N.Y. Jets.
Analysis: Barnett and Woodson should be the only players worth using for Fantasy purposes in Week 13. Keep an eye on their status as the week progresses. Ignore the other injured players at this time.
News: The Green Bay Packers have LB Nick Barnett (hand), DT Johnny Jolly, TE David Martin (ribs), QB Ingle Martin, CB Charlie Peprah, RB P.J. Pope, OT Mark Tauscher and LB Ben Taylor (hamstring) are inactive for Week 12 at Seattle.
Analysis: None of the players mentioned above are worthy of Fantasy consideration in most leagues when healthy.
News: Green Bay is dealing with a serious injury on the defensive side. Middle linebacker Nick Barnett suffered a broken hand in the game Sunday. McCarthy said the injury occurred when Barnett was involved in a run play toward the end. "We're going to try to play him (this week) with a club," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. He is listed as doubtful for Week 12 at Seattle.
Analysis: Barnett is a very useful Fantasy IDP player. The Packers are going to try and play him Week 12. Keep an eye on his status the remainder of the week, if you intend to use him for IDP purposes in Week 12. However, being listed as doubtful is not a promising sign.
News: The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Packers LB Nick Barnett suffered a broken hand in Week 11 vs. New England but isn't expected to miss any time. Barnett may wear a padded "club" over the hand.
Analysis: Barnett is a No. 2 or 3 Fantasy LB in IDP leagues when healthy since he can rack up the tackles.
News: The Packers DST gave up 35 points against New England with two sacks and one fumble recovery. LB A.J. Hawk had 12 tackles and recovered a fumble. DB Marquand Manuel had 10 tackles. DL Colin Cole had seven tackles and a sack. DB Nick Collins had four tackles. DL Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila had four tackles and a sack. DB Charles Woodson had four tackles. DL Aaron Kampman had five tackles. LB Nick Barnett had three tackles. And DB Al Harris had four tackles.
Analysis: The Packers DST should not be used in Week 12 against Seattle. Use all IDP players as needed.
News: Notable Packers defenders from Week 9 include: DE Aaron Kampman (nine tackles, sack), DT Corey Williams (four tackles, three sacks), LB Nick Barnett (five total tackles) and DL Ryan Pickett (seven total tackles).
Analysis: Kampman, Pickett and Barnett are reliable Fantasy defenders, but Williams is not. The Packers play at Minnesota in Week 10.
News: The Packers DST had four sacks against Arizona and gave up 14 points. DL Aaron Kampman had two sacks and eight tackles. LB Nick Barnett had five tackles and a sack. DL Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila had three tackles and a half-sack. And DL Colin Cole had five tackles and a half-sack. DB Charles Woodson had an interception. LB A.J. Hawk had eight tackles.
Analysis: It was a good day for the Packers DST and consider them a good sleeper candidate for Week 9 against Buffalo. Use their IDP players if needed and consider them good starts.
News: The Packers DST scored a touchdown against Miami when DB Charles Woodson returned an interception for a score. Woodson also added six tackles and a sack. LB Nick Barnett also had an interception and nine tackles. LB A.J. Hawk had 12 tackles and a sack. LB Brady Poppinga had an interception. DL Aaron Kampman had three tackles and a sack. And DL Mike Montgomery had a tackle and a sack.
Analysis: The Packers are not a good DST option any week. Use these IDP players if needed next week.
News: Notable Packers defenders in Week 5 included: LB Nick Barnett (12 total tackles), safety Marquand Manuel (10 total tackles), LB A.J. Hawk (eight total tackles), DE Aaron Kampman (six total tackles, sack) plus half a sack for DL men Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila and Mike Montgomery.
Analysis: Of these players, Barnett and Kampman are must-start IDP players, whereas Gbaja-Biamila, Hawk and Manuel are serviceable but not must-starts. Montgomery is not worth watching in Fantasy play.
News: The Green Bay Packers were able to walk out of Detroit with a 31-24 win in Week 3, but their defense took a beating giving up 424 yards. They did sack QB Jon Kitna three times, force one fumble and one interception. LB Nick Barnett led all tacklers with nine. Rookie LB A.J. Hawk had eight tackles and a sack. DL Corey Williams had three tackles and two sacks. While Marquand Manuel had seven tackles and an interception.
Analysis: The Packers defense has yet to hold an opponent under 350 total yards and remain a poor start in any league. Week 4 they travel to Philadelphia and there is no way you should want to play their DST against the Eagles, who have been on an offensive tear this season.
News: The Packers gave up 353 yards passing against Saints QB Drew Brees in a loss to the Saints.
Analysis: Despite several good individual performances by DB Nick Collins (eight tackles), LB A.J. Hawk (seven tackles), DB Charles Woodson (seven tackles, one fumble recovery), DL Aaron Kampman (four tackles, three sacks and two fumble recoveries), DL Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (two tackles, one sack and one fumble recovery) and LB Nick Barnett (four tackles), the Packers are not a good start in any league.
News: Nick Barnett recorded an interception and was in on nine tackles in the Packers' Week 1 loss to Chicago.
Analysis: Barnett is a good Fantasy LB for now. Start him in most IDP formats vs. New Orleans.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett balked at speculation early in camp that he would be moved outside to make room for the hard-hitting rookie Abdul Hodge, a natural middle linebacker. The switch never materialized, allowing Barnett to continue barking out the plays.
Analysis: Barnett is a good Fantasy LB for now, though if the Packers play poorly in 2006, he could be replaced by Hodge. Start him for Week 1 vs. Chicago since the Bears are expected to run the ball a lot.
News: Nick Barnett recorded one sack, one interception, 138 tackles (91 solo) and one pass defensed this season in Green Bay. He has now recorded 100-plus tackles in each of his three pro seasons.
Analysis: Barnett has developed into a nice No. 1 linebacker for owners and will be worth a middle-round selection in 2006 IDP drafts.

Analysis: Barnett is a decent option in deeper IDP leagues. in Week 16 vs. Chicago.
News: Nick Barnett led the Packers with 11 tackles - five solo - in a Week 14 win over the Lions.
Analysis: Barnett is a decent option in deeper IDP leagues.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett had five tackles at Chicago in Week 13.

Analysis: Torrance Marshall might start at MLB if Barnett can't play.
News: The Packers agreed to a contract on Saturday with Nick Barnett, their first-round draft pick. The deal is for seven years.
Analysis: Barnett is projected to start at linebacker for the Packers in 2003. He is worth a late-round pick on Draft Day in individual defensive player leagues.
