News: The Texans cut a slew of players Monday to get down to 75 on their roster. Among the cuts were linebacker Omar Gaither, wide receiver Bryant Johnson, wide receiver Mario Louis, running back Davin Meggett, defensive end Jimmy Saddler-McQueen, fullback Derrell Smith and cornerback Torri Williams. Both Ra'Shon Harris and Greg Williams were also waived/injured.
Analysis: You might recognize some names on this list like Johnson and Gaither, but both players were merely fighting for reserve spots on the Texans roster. None of these players were expected to make a significant impact and can be left off all Fantasy rosters.
News: The Texans agreed to a one-year contract with wide receiver Bryant Johnson, who'll add needed veteran depth in his second season with the franchise, The Sports Xchange reports. Johnson, 31, played in all 16 games, mostly on special teams, for the Texans in 2011. He was an unrestricted free agent but went unsigned through the offseason.
Analysis: He caught six passes for 90 yards and one touchdown last season and has been a career underachiever. Don't add him to Fantasy rosters.
News: Texans WR Bryant Johnson played a key role late in Week 17's loss to the Titans. Johnson was not targeted until the fourth quarter, but in the final period he made a 40-yard catch, and then he ended the game's scoring with a 5-yard touchdown reception. The last time that Johnson scored a touchdown was in the final week of the 2009-10 season, when he played for the Lions. In addition to his 45 receiving yards, Johnson ran the ball once for 1 yard.
Analysis: Johnson finished the regular season with just six receptions. He is well past his prime and should not be expected to be a significant contributor in the postseason or beyond.
News: Texans WR Bryant Johnson had not made a catch since Week 7, but he made a pair of grabs in a Week 15 loss to the Panthers. Johnson finished with a total of 23 receiving yards.
Analysis: Even with Andre Johnson out with a hamstring injury, the Texans have not called on Johnson to play more than a minimal role in their passing game. He can be ignored in all formats for Week 16.
News: Texans WR Bryant Johnson's performance against the Vikings was "impressive" according to coach Gary Kubiak. Johnson, who was signed on Monday, caught three passes for 64 yards while also putting a grip on the fourth wideout spot. "His knowledge of what's going on in this game and with some of things he can do, he can help us," said Kubiak.
Analysis: Johnson is firmly behind Andre Johnson, Kevin Walter and Jacoby Jones in the pecking order at wideout not to mention TE Owen Daniels too. He fits the mold as a tall Texans WR, but he likely will not make a big Fantasy impact unless some key players suffer injury. Ignore him on Draft Day until his play suggests otherwise.
News: Multiple sources reported on Monday that free agent WR Bryant Johnson, who was last with the Lions, reached an agreement with the Texans. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Johnson had just 18 receptions for 210 yards in 14 games last season.
Analysis: Johnson has always flashed potential here and there with his 6-foot-3 frame, but he has never been able to establish himself as a reliable No. 2 WR. Still, he has the ability to stretch the field as he did in 2006 with Arizona, when he hauled in 40 catches for a career-best 740 yards and four scores. Fantasy owners should not expect similar numbers with Andre Johnson, Kevin Walter and Jacoby Jones healthy -- but he may have the chance to contribute. Johnson should be ignored on Draft Day until he proves his worth.
News: Detroit announced the official release of LB Jordon Dizon and WR Bryant Johnson on Saturday. Neither were expected to have an integral role with the Lions this season.
Analysis: Johnson was due to make $3.2 million this season, but his production has not matched that amount. He has combined for 53 receptions for 627 yards and three touchdowns in his last two seasons and never seemed to reach his full potential after being a first-round draft pick in 2003. Leave him untouched in all upcoming Fantasy drafts for 2011.
News: The Detroit Free Press reports the Lions will release WR Bryant Johnson, who is due to make $3.2 million in 2011. He didnt really have much to say about it, Johnsons agent, Chafie Fields, said. We knew it was a possibility, so it wasnt a total, complete blindside. Its not a situation where he took it personal and felt some kind of way about it. Hes ready to go, so well see what happens on Friday. Johnson's release means rookie Titus Young will take over as the No. 3 receiver behind Calvin Johnson and Nate Burleson, and Derrick Williams becomes the team's fourth receiver.
Analysis: This is not a surprising move seeing how Johnson had an uneventful two seasons with the Lions. Johnson has hung around the NFL for eight NFL seasons, but he has never really lived up to the hype of being a first-round pick. He might find work elsewhere, but unless Johnson lands in an ideal situation, then you don't have to worry about drafting him in Fantasy.
News: The Detroit Free Press reports that Lions WR Bryant Johnson might have to fight for a roster spot in 2011 behind Calvin Johnson, Nate Burleson and Titus Young. Bryant Johnson, 30, has played extensively in his two seasons as a Lion, but his production hasn't matched the three-year, $9-million contact he signed. He started all 16 games but had a career-low 417 receiving yards on 35 catches in 2009. Then last year, he managed just 18 catches in 14 games, with several costly drops. "It's kind of hard being that guy who don't have a lot of opportunities and then, all of a sudden, you're thrown in there, and you have to make a play at any given time," Johnson said. "But as a football player and as a competitor and as a veteran, you just have to step up." Johnson said the Lions did not approach him about taking a pay cut before the NFL lockout began in March -- he's scheduled to make $3.2 million this year, making him the Lions' fourth-highest-paid offensive player (behind Calvin Johnson, Matthew Stafford and Dominic Raiola).
Analysis: Johnson is expected to compete with Derrick Williams for a role with the Lions, but even if he makes the teams he will have minimal Fantasy value. Ignore him in all leagues on Draft Day.
News: The Detroit Free Press reports that Lions GM Martin Mayhew was upset by the complete lack of production his team got from the No. 3 WR spot last year. Bryant Johnson, one of the Lions' biggest free-agent signings two years ago, caught 18 passes and lost his job midway through the season. Derrick Williams, Johnson's replacement and a 2009 third-round pick, had three catches and finished the year on injured reserve. "I expected that those guys would do better," Mayhew said. "But over a period of time it becomes apparent that it's not happening. It didn't happen for those two guys last year. Derrick's still a young guy. And he could still develop. Bryant's not so young and needs to really work harder to improve his game, to be a part of our offense next year. But that's kind of where it is with those guys. I think it impacted our entire offense not having a threat as that third receiver."
Analysis: In all likelihood, Johnson, 29, and Williams, 24, will be competing for their jobs this fall. Johnson's $3.2-million base salary makes him a candidate for easy release, and the Lions are expected to add a receiver, through the draft or in free agency. Mayhew said the Lions needed someone who "can take the top off the defense" to complement Calvin Johnson, Nate Burleson and TE Brandon Pettigrew. Keep an eye on what happens with Bryant Johnson, but he has minimal Fantasy value even if he remains with the Lions. Ignore him in all leagues on Draft Day.
News: Lions WR Bryant Johnson caught two passes for 21 yards in a 7-3 win over Green Bay in Week 14. He now has 13 catches and 134 yards on the year.
Analysis: Johnson played as much of a role as anyone in a weak Lions passing attack in Week 14, but he still isn't producing enough to be a factor in Fantasy. He can be stashed in all formats for Week 15.
News: Lions reserve receiver Bryant Johnson caught two of the four passes thrown his way on Thanksgiving vs. the Patriots, totaling 26 yards.
Analysis: Johnson continues to contribute, not excel, for the Lions. He shouldn't be bothered with in Fantasy when he faces the Bears at home in Week 13.
News: Lions WR Bryant Johnson had two catches for 20 yards in Week 6 at the Giants. He was targeted six times in the game.
Analysis: Johnson had one pass go straight through his hands late in the game. He is clearly behind Calvin Johnson and Nate Burleson in the pecking order at receiver and you could even argue that TE Brandon Pettigrew has passed him as well. There is no need to waste any roster space in Fantasy leagues on Johnson.
News: Lions WR Bryant Johnson was in the starting lineup Week 4 against the Packers as Nate Burleson remained sidelined with an ankle injury. Johnson did have the best game of his season, with three catches for 23 yards. He was also targeted five times. Johnson has five catches for 51 yards in four games.
Analysis: There have been rumors that the Lions could cut Johnson as soon as Burleson is healthy, but that would leave them thin at the WR position. However, he just hasn't been a very good receiving option across from Calvin Johnson. Johnson is clearly not a viable Fantasy option. The Lions play the Rams in Week 5.
News:The Sports Xchange reports Lions WR Bryant Johnson was supposed to be a major target this season as a potential No. 2 receiver. Through three games, though, he's caught two passes. He had four thrown his way in Week 4 against the Vikings and none were caught. The Lions worked out WR Dexter Jackson on Tuesday.
Analysis: The Lions can't make any drastic moves with Johnson until Nate Burleson (ankle) is back in action. However, Johnson has been a huge disappointment since joining Detroit last season and clearly not someone to worry about in Fantasy.
News: Lions WR Bryant Johnson had just one catch for 4 yards in a Week 2 loss to the Eagles. He was targeted four times. Johnson has two catches for 28 yards in his first two games.
Analysis: Johnson came to Detroit in 2009 ready to get out of the shadow of Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin, two receivers who hogged the attention and receptions in Arizona. Sadly, Johnson has still been the same player he was with the Cardinals. He might get a few catches per week, but he won't make a huge impact in Fantasy. Ignore him heading into Week 3 against the Vikings.
News: Lions WR Bryant Johnson had one catch for 24 yards Sunday at Chicago. Johnson, the No. 3 WR doe Detroit, had only one target in the game.
Analysis: Johnson has minimal Fantasy value for the Lions since he's the No. 3 WR and really the No. 4 or 5 option in the passing game when you consider Calvin Johnson, Nate Burleson, Tony Scheffler and Jahvid Best. Ignore Johnson in all leagues in Week 2 against the Eagles.
News: Lions WR Bryant Johnson had one catch for 7 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's third preseason game against Cleveland. It was the only time Johnson was thrown at in the game.
Analysis: Johnson is trying to be the No. 3 WR for the Lions behind Calvin Johnson and Nate Burleson. It's a role we expect him to maintain, but he's likely the fifth best receiving option on the team when you factor in Tony Scheffler and Jahvid Best. Even with the touchdown, don't expect much from Johnson this year. Ignore him in all leagues on Draft Day.
News: The battle for the third and fourth WR spots will be an interesting one between WRs Bryant Johnson and Derrick Williams in Lions camp. Johnson is lining up in three-WR sets with the first team and has the better hands. He splits time with Williams, who shows excellent speed.
Analysis: Johnson was a tremendous bust as the No. 2 receiver for the Lions last year, so much so that they replaced him with Nate Burleson early on in the free-agency period. Johnson isn't expected to post many good stats this season (he rarely has over his career), so keep him off of Fantasy rosters.
News: Lions WR Bryant Johnson caught four passes for 42 yards and a touchdown in a Week 17 loss to the Bears.
Analysis: Johnson's four catches tied a season high, while his 43 yards were his fourth-best effort of the campaign. That tells you how poor of a 2009 Johnson has had, and he will head into 2010 as just a low-end bench option in the deepest of leagues. Do not draft him this summer.
News: Detroit WR Bryant Johnson was not much of a contributor Week 16 at San Francisco. Johnson made only two receptions for 18 total yards.
Analysis: Johnson is not a usable Fantasy option at this point and has not made more than two catches since Week 5 against Pittsburgh. Keep him out of all lineups for Week 17 against Chicago.
News: In the Lions' Week 15 loss vs. the Cardinals, WR Bryant Johnson caught two pass for 11 yards.
Analysis: He doesn't post enough stats to warrant Fantasy use. Do not consider him for his next matchup at San Francisco in Week 16.
News: Detroit WR Bryant Johnson made only one reception in the teams Week 14 game against the Ravens. Johnson gained 8 yards on the reception.
Analysis: Johnson does not make enough receptions week to week to be relevant in any Fantasy format. Keep him on waivers for Fantasy Week 15 against Arizona.
News: Lions WR Bryant Johnson made just one catch for the second straight week on Sunday in a Week 13 loss at Cincinnati. Johnson gained 5 yards on the catch.
Analysis: Johnson is not a relevant Fantasy option and can continue to be ignored in nearly all formats. The Lions play at Baltimore in Week 14.
News: Playing on Thanksgiving vs. the Packers, Lions WR Bryant Johnson caught one pass for 17 yards.
Analysis: Johnson has fizzled and isn't worth using in Fantasy play because he doesn't warrant enough stats for use. Keep him off of rosters going forward.
News: Detroit WR Bryant Johnson made two receptions on Sunday in a Week 11 game against the Browns. He gained a total of 23 yards in the game with a long of 17 yards.
Analysis: The Lions threw all over the Browns in Week 11 and Johnson only managed to get two catches for 23 yards. He is just a low-end Fantasy option and is not recommended for Week 12 against Green Bay on Thanksgiving.
News: Lions WR Bryant Johnson had two catches for 17 yards Sunday at Minnesota.
Analysis: Johnson is a low-end Fantasy WR, and he has minimal value in Week 11 even in what should be a good matchup against Cleveland.
News: Detroit WR Bryant Johnson made two receptions for the third straight game on Sunday in Week 9 at Seattle and was able to score a touchdown. His TD pass went for 29 yards and gave the Lions a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. He finished with 35 total yards in the game.
Analysis: Calvin Johnson was back in action Week 9, which didn't seem to have too much of an effect on B. Johnson's performance as he has two catches in each of his past three games. He scores seldomly and the Lions offense is too poor to be trusted outside of the deepest of Fantasy formats. He is not a recommended option for Week 10 at Minnesota.
News: Detroit WR Bryant Johnson made two grabs in the team's Week 8 game against the Rams. He gained a total of 43 yards in the game with a long of 36 yards. He got the start in place of Calvin Johnson who was out with a knee injury.
Analysis: Johnson continues to start opposite Dennis Northcutt in Detroit as Johnson continues to sit with the knee injury. He has only one scoring TD on the season and has not seen an increase in production with Johnson out. He remains just a low-end option for Week 9 at Seattle.
News: Lions WR Bryant Johnson got a chance to be a bigger part of the Lions offense on Sunday in a Week 6 loss to the Packers. He didn't take advantage however, making only two grabs in the game for a total of 27 yards. His longest reception went for 21 yards.
Analysis: Johnson was starting opposite Dennis Northcutt in Week 6 as Calvin Johnson was out with a knee injury. The Lions offense struggled at Green Bay, failing to score and losing starter Daunte Culpepper to a hamstring injury. The Lions have a bye Week 7 and have a chance to get some of their offensive talent healthy. Think of B. Johnson as just a low-end option for Week 8 whether C. Johnson is back by Week 8 or not.
News: Detroit WR Calvin Johnson (knee) has been ruled out of the team's Week 6 game at Green Bay. Johnson was unable to practice all week and was not expected to be able to play.
Analysis: Johnson is one of the top receivers in the league and his absence is certainly a big blow to Fantasy owners in Week 6. However, owners should already have picked up a replacement for Johnson. Dennis Northcutt and Bryant Johnson will get additional looks from QB Daunte Culpepper with Johnson out but they are just low-end options.
News: MLive.com reports that Lions WR Calvin Johnson missed a third straight day of practice Friday with what is believed to be a sprained knee. Typically if players can't practice by Friday, they don't play on Sunday, which means Johnson is questionable at best to play for the Lions at Green Bay in Week 6. Lions WRs Bryant Johnson and Dennis Northcutt are expected to start with Johnson out.
Analysis: It's too bad that Johnson won't play because he would be going up against a Packers defense he previously torched for 100 yards and two touchdowns in each of two meetings last season. We'll keep you posted on Johnson's status, but for now make plans to be without him on Sunday. Either of the Lions' receivers listed above would be considered low-end replacements for Johnson in Fantasy play; both were targeted eight times last week by QB Daunte Culpepper (who is expected to start), but Northcutt was significantly better.
News: Lions WR Bryant Johnson caught four passes for 35 yards in Week 5 against Pittsburgh. He was thrown to eight times in the game, tied for the team lead.
Analysis: Johnson tied his season high for catches with four. He saw an increase in targets after Calvin Johnson left the game early with an injury. He's been reliable for more or less the same kind of production this season, regardless of whether it has been Matthew Stafford or Daunte Culpepper playing quarterback. We don't consider him anything more than a fourth or fifth receiving option in Fantasy.
News: Lions WR Bryant Johnson had three catches for 27 yards Sunday at Chicago.
Analysis: Johnson had a good game in Week 3 against Washington with four catches for 73 yards and a touchdown, but he's nothing but a reserve option in deeper Fantasy leagues. Ignore Johnson in Week 5 against Pittsburgh.
News: Detroit WR Bryant Johnson may have established a bit of a rapport with rookie QB Matthew Stafford in Week 3's win over the Redskins. Stafford threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Johnson in the first quarter of the win. Johnson finished with four catches for a team-high 73 yards and the touchdown.
Analysis: Johnson has now caught eight passes for 118 yards and a score this season. He did not make a grab in Week 2's game, however. Stafford definitely looked to Johnson numerous times in Week 3's win and he overshadowed Calvin in the game. Still, we don't expect him to put up consistent stats for an up and down Lions offense this season and we'd treat him as a very low-end option Week 4 at Chicago's tough defense.
News: Lions WR Bryant Johnson and QB Daunte Culpepper dressed but failed to record an offensive stat Week 2 against the Vikings.
Analysis: Johnson, who was targeted just once, is in the starting lineup for the Lions but we aren't expecting a lot of numbers from him since Detroit has a rookie QB. Culpepper is currently the backup gunslinger, but won't see PT unless something happens to Matt Stafford. Neither of these players are recommended Fantasy options for Week 3 against the Redskins.
News: Lions receiver Bryant Johnson caught four passes for 45 yards in Week 1 at New Orleans. His longest catch went for 19 yards.
Analysis: Johnson had a decent game when you consider that rookie Matt Stafford struggled mightily in his first career start. He threw three interceptions and completed less than half his passes. The Lions pass offense does not figure to be good enough that Johnson will be a recommended play in Fantasy many times this year -- if at all. We won't recommend activating him in anything but the deepest of leagues for Week 2 against Minnesota.
News: Detroit WR Bryant Johnson was able to play in Saturday's preseason victory over the Colts. Johnson caught one pass in the game for three yards but that play ended with him standing in the end zone. Johnson caught a TD pass from Daunte Culpepper in the 2nd quarter.
Analysis: Johnson never lived up to his potential in San Francisco but could have improved numbers with Matthew Stafford throwing him the ball in Detroit. Take Johnson as a late-round flier on Draft Day in deeper leagues or think of him as a waiver wire acquisition at some point.
News: The Detroit News reports that receivers Calvin Johnson (thumb) and Bryant Johnson (soreness) should be ready to play in the team's upcoming preseason game against Indianapolis.
Analysis: Johnson never lived up to his potential in San Francisco but could have improved numbers with Drew Stafford throwing him the ball in Detroit. Take Johnson as a late-round flier on Draft Day in deeper leagues or think of him as a waiver wire acquisition at some point.
News: Lions WR Bryant Johnson sat out Saturday's preseason game against the Browns with continued soreness.
Analysis: The Lions have a nice pair of Johnsons at wide receiver, although Bryant is clearly the lesser of the two in the Fantasy world. Take Johnson with a late-round flier in deep leagues, otherwise just add him off the waiver wire if he starts out the year playing well.
News: Detroit WR Bryant Johnson sat out of Saturday's preseason game against the Falcons with soreness. He is considered questionable for the team's next game on Aug. 22 at Cleveland
Analysis: Johnson never lived up to his potential in San Francisco but could have improved numbers with Drew Stafford throwing him the ball in Detroit. Take Johnson as a late-round flier on Draft Day in deeper leagues or think of him as a waiver wire acquisition at some point.
News: According to a report, Lions WR Bryant Johnson isn't expected to play in Saturday's preseason opener against Atlanta, said mlive.com. Johnson, who was injured in an offseason golf cart accident, hasn't participated in any team drills during camp.
Analysis: Johnson hopes to break out with his new team the Lions but will have to get going in camp first. At best, take Johnson with a late-round flier in deep leagues, otherwise just add him off the waiver wire if he starts out the year playing well.
News: Lions receiver Bryant Johnson took a step forward in his comeback from a golf cart accident. He was taken off the non-football injury list Wednesday and went through individual drills. Coach Jim Schwartz says Johnson is recovering ahead of the timetable the Lions had in mind, but says they will not rush him back. Johnson has said he was injured in July when he was driving a golf cart that got out of control and fell on him near his offseason home in Georgia.
Analysis: Johnson never met his potential playing in the NFC West while new teammate Calvin Johnson is considered to be one of the best young receivers in the game. Once again, the Lions have a nice pair of big, physical receivers to test opposing secondaries with, and they also added WR Dennis Northcutt and TE Brandon Pettigrew during the offseason to help both of them out. Ultimately, this Johnson isn't expected to break out after six NFL seasons with limited totals. It will help that the Lions will likely play from behind more weeks than not in 2009, but their quarterback situation is a mess and the offense needs plenty of work. Bryant Johnson will modestly complement Calvin Johnson and be useful as a one-week replacement off the waiver wire. Don't draft him unless you're in a deep league -- the former Nittany Lion has burned Fantasy owners on Draft Day many times before.
News: Lions WR Bryant Johnson was placed on the non-football-injury list because of lingering problems after a July golf-cart accident.
Analysis: A golf cart accident? Apparently, Johnson was driving the cart down a hill and got scratches and bruises on the majority of his body in early July. Johnson hopes to break out with his new team the Lions but will have to get going in camp first. At best, take Johnson with a late-round flier in deep leagues, otherwise just add him off the waiver wire if he starts out the year playing well.
News: Lions WR Bryant Johnson is hoping his new team will offer the chance for him to finally have a breakout year, reports mlive.com. Johnson struggled in Arizona playing behind Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald. Then last year, Johnson joined the San Francisco 49ers and thought he might settle in with the high-flying passing attack of coordinator Mike Martz. But Martz has a complicated system, and it took Bryant some time to adjust and, more importantly, the 49ers were having quarterback issues all year and Bryant's great season never materialized. Johnson finished with 45 catches for 546 yards and three touchdowns with the 49ers. Now that he's in Detroit, Johnson is hoping to benefit from playing opposite Calvin Johnson.
Analysis: We'll find out if Johnson will have the breakout year he's looking for, but he still has to adjust to another new offense and possibly a young QB in rookie Matthew Stafford. At best, take Johnson with a late-round flier in deep leagues, otherwise just add him off the waiver wire if he starts out the year playing well.
News: MLive.com reports that new Lions WR Bryant Johnson dislocated a finger on his right hand during the club's recent minicamp. He's expected to be fine. "He just dislocated a finger during one of those drills. He's fine," head coach Jim Schwartz said. Johnson had 45 receptions for 546 yards and three touchdowns last year, his only season with the 49ers.
Analysis: Bryant Johnson never met his potential playing in the NFC West while teammate Calvin Johnson is considered to be one of the best young receivers in the game. Once again, the Lions have a nice pair of big, physical receivers to test opposing secondaries with, and they also added WR Ronald Curry during the offseason to help both of them out. Ultimately, Bryant Johnson isn't expected to break out after six NFL seasons with limited totals.
News: We're going to need name tags in Detroit -- the Lions signed free agent receiver Bryant Johnson to a three-year contract on Monday, adding the former first-round draft pick to complement Fantasy phenom Calvin Johnson. Bryant Johnson had 45 receptions for 546 yards and three touchdowns last year, his only season with the San Francisco 49ers, after five seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. He has 255 receptions for 3,221 yards and 12 TDs in 93 career games. Arizona drafted him out of Penn State with the 17th overall pick in the 2003 draft.
Analysis: Bryant Johnson never met his potential playing in the NFC West while Calvin Johnson is considered to be one of the best young receivers in the game. Once again, the Lions have a nice pair of big, physical receivers to test opposing secondaries with. However, Bryant Johnson isn't expected to break out after six NFL seasons and very limited totals.
News: One of the 49ers' most prominent free agents is wide receiver Bryant Johnson, a veteran who signed a one-year deal to prove his worth after failing to get a long-term, big-money deal elsewhere. He played well in San Francisco, finishing with 45 catches for 546 yards and three scores.
Analysis: With young receivers Josh Morgan and Jason Hill stepping up for the 49ers, Johnson might not be re-signed. Regardless of where he plays in 2009, he's clearly not a prime-time player and has limited upside. Figure him to be no better than a reserve Fantasy WR wherever he is in 2009.
News: San Francisco WR Bryant Johnson made two grabs for 43 yards in Week 17's win over the Redskins. Johnson caught a long pass from Shaun Hill on the game's final drive to set up the game-winning field goal.
Analysis: Johnson finished his season with at least 40 yards receiving in seven of his last eight games and two touchdowns during that stretch. He finished 2008 with 45 catches for 546 yards and three scores. He could wind up as one of the Niners top options in 2009 or leave via free agency. In either case, we don't expect the 6-year man out of Penn State to be much more than a late-round Fantasy pick in deeper leagues.
News: Niners WR Bryant Johnson caught four passes for 60 yards Week 16 at St. Louis, topping 50 yards receiving for the first time in four weeks.
Analysis: Johnson blends in with the rest of the 49ers' wide receivers and never has any standout performances. Accordingly, he rarely contributes Fantasy-relevant numbers. Leave him on waivers for Week 17 against the Redskins.
News: 49ers WR Bryant Johnson caught five passes for 41 yards in a Week 15 loss at Miami.
Analysis: Johnson is the No. 2 WR in San Fran, but he just isn't consistent enough to be worth using in Fantasy formats for Week 16 at St. Louis.
News: Niners WR Bryant Johnson, getting to start with Josh Morgan still sidelined by a groin injury Week 14 against the Jets, made his third touchdown reception of the season, catching a three-yard pass in the fourth quarter. He finished with six receptions for 49 yards.
Analysis: Johnson has only one catch for 16 yards last week, and his performance remains spotty on a week-to-week basis. Don't bother adding him in Fantasy just because of this one score. Leave him on waivers for Week 15 at Miami.
News: 49ers WR Bryant Johnson was held to just one catch for 16 yards in a Week 13 win at Buffalo.
Analysis: Johnson has chipped in a bit this season with three or four catches in most games, but is just part of too poor of an offense to be used in Fantasy play. Ignore him in Week 14 vs. the Jets.
News: In the 49ers' 35-22 loss at the Cowboys in Week 12, WR Bryant Johnson caught four passes for 56 yards. His numbers could have been better -- he was thrown at twice by Shaun Hill in the end zone in the first half.
Analysis: Johnson remains a low-end Fantasy option since he's seeing plenty of playing time and looks as part of the San Fran offense. He's got a decent matchup in Week 13 at Buffalo, but he's only worth starting in deeper leagues if your receiving corps is thin.
News: Niners WR Bryant Johnson, who entered the game with 47 total receiving yards over the last four, caught four passes for 56 yards and a touchdown Week 11 against the Rams. He hadn't scored a touchdown since Week 2.
Analysis: The 49ers had Josh Morgan and Arnaz Battle sidelined by injuries, so you shouldn't assume Johnson's decent performance means he has a bigger role in the offense now. He'll likely go back to posting inconsistent numbers, so leave him on waivers in standard leagues for Week 12 at Dallas.
News: 49ers WR Bryant Johnson caught three passes for 17 yards during a Week 10 loss to the Cardinals. His longest reception went 11 yards and was targeted just four times in a matchup against his former team. Johnson has six catches for 47 yards in his last two games.
Analysis: The 49ers doled out a decent amount of money to bring Johnson to San Francisco in the offseason, but he was slowed by injury in the preseason and doesn't seem to have recovered. He has just 19 catches for 225 yards and one touchdown. Until his production picks up, Bryant has little Fantasy value. The 49ers play the Rams Week 11.
News: Niners WR Bryant Johnson, who had gone without a reception two straight weeks, caught three passes for 30 yards Week 8 against the Seahawks.
Analysis: Johnson has clearly become an unreliable source of Fantasy points. He might have more talent than most of the 49ers receivers, but he obviously doesn't have the numbers to back it up. Leave him on waivers. The 49ers have a bye in Week 9 before visiting the Cardinals in Week 10.
News: The following 49ers players did not record any offensive statistics in Week 7 at the N.Y. Giants: QB Shaun Hill, TE Billy Bajema, RB DeShaun Foster, WR Bryant Johnson, TE/LS Brian Jennings and WR Jason Hill.
Analysis: None of the players on this list should be considered viable Fantasy option. Not even Bryant Johnson. They are not in a position to contribute regular stats as they aren't in line for regular playing time. They've got some depth chart climbing to do and should be left on the waiver wire.
News: San Francisco TEs Brian Jennings and Billy Bajema, FB Zak Keasey, and WRs Bryant Johnson and Jason Hill all played in Week 6's game against the Eagles. None recorded any stats. Backup QB Shaun Hill did not play in the game but was active.
Analysis: None of the players on this list are going to be in line for considerable playing time anytime soon. Leave them on the waiver wire in all Fantasy leagues until further notice.
News: One week after being shut out, 49ers WR Bryant Johnson caught three passes for 27 yards in a Week 5 loss to the Patriots.
Analysis: Johnson is going to be inconsistent all season long. For now, consider him a No. 4 Fantasy option in Week 6 against the Eagles.
News: 49ers WR Bryant Johnson played in Week 4 at New Orleans but had no catches. He was limited all week with a hamstring injury.
Analysis: Johnson is going to be inconsistent all season long. For now, consider him a No. 4 Fantasy option in Week 5 against New England and hope he can return at 100 percent from the hamstring problem.
News: San Francisco WR Bryant Johnson is active for Week 4's game at New Orleans. Bryant practiced on Friday but had missed most of the week with a sore hamstring.
Analysis: Johnson is coming off a disappointing one-catch game against the Lions, but is looking to rebound Week 4 against a weak Saints secondary. He has 10 catches for 151 yards and one touchdown, and has become a good deep threat for San Francisco. Start him as a No. 2 Fantasy WR.
News: 49ers WR Bryant Johnson finally practiced Friday after missing the previous two days with a sore hamstring. However, he is being listed as questionable for Week 4 against the Saints. "It's undecided," head coach Mike Nolan told NFL.com as to Johnson's playing status for Sunday. "He practiced (Friday) and did a good job. (Saturday) will be the biggest tell. If he wakes up sore, then maybe not."
Analysis: Johnson is coming off a disappointing one-catch game against the Lions, but is looking to rebound Week 4 against a weak Saints secondary. He has 10 catches for 151 yards and one touchdown, and has become a good deep threat for San Francisco. If Johnson is active, start him as a No. 2 Fantasy WR. Continue to track his progress up until inactives.
News: 49ers WR Bryant Johnson (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday or Thursday as the team prepares for Week 4 at New Orleans. Johnson has not been injured this season and has dressed for the first three games. He has 10 catches for 151 yards and one touchdown.
Analysis: Johnson is coming off a disappointing one-catch game against the Lions, but is looking to rebound Week 4 against a weak Saints secondary. If Johnson is active, start him as a No. 2 Fantasy WR. Continue to track his progress.
News: Niners WR Bryant Johnson caught one pass for 25 yards in Week 3 vs. Detroit. The Niners threw for 189 yards and eight different receivers caught a pass.
Analysis: Johnson led the Niners in receiving in Week 1 with 48 yards and improved upon that Week 2 with six passes for 78 yards. He took a step back in Week 3, but should be able to bounce back down the line. The Niners did a good job of spreading the ball around against Detroit and did not concentrate on any one receiver. Johnson should have better numbers in Week 4 at New Orleans and he could be viewed as a fourth receiver for that matchup.
News: San Francisco defeated the Seahawks in overtime in Week 2 and WR Bryant Johnson was a big part of it. Johnson caught six passes for 78 yards from QB J.T. O'Sullivan and he scored a touchdown. O'Sullivan hit Johnson from three yards out in the second quarter.
Analysis: Johnson led the Niners in receiving in Week 1 with 48 yards and improved upon that Week 2. The Niners face lowly Detroit in Week 3 and their defense automatically makes Johnson an attractive start. He's currently owned in 38 percent of Fantasy leagues so consider picking him up if you need a spot WR for Week 3.
News: San Francisco WR Bryant Johnson meets the Seahawks in Seattle in Week 2. Johnson, as a member of the Cardinals, has done quite well against Seattle over the past two seasons. In four games, Johnson has averaged just over 37 yards per game receiving but has scored a touchdown in three of the four. He scored both times he went to Seattle, as well.
Analysis: Johnson was the Niners leading WR in Week 1 against the Cardinals with three catches for 48 yards. He figures to once again be the team's leading wide receiver against Seattle and his history is certainly in favor of him getting into the end zone. Still, San Francisco is not a cohesive offense right now and Seattle is a much tougher defense than the Cardinals were in Week 1. Johnson should be the best of the Niners WRs in Week 2 but that still doesn't warrant him to be recommended in Fantasy.
News: 49ers WR Bryant Johnson led all San Francisco WRs in receiving on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. Johnson caught three passes for 48 yards with a long of 31. With J.T. O'Sullivan throwing passes, none of the wideouts had big days.
Analysis: Johnson is officially the starter over Josh Morgan, however, that still makes him a less-than-attractive Fantasy option. Keep Johnson benched unless you absolutely have no other healthy starting options. The Niners travel to Seattle in Week 2, but with O'Sullivan at QB, Johnson is not recommended.
News:The Sports Xchange notes, 49ers WR Bryant Johnson appears to be running at full speed after missing three weeks of training camp with a hamstring strain. Johnson is expected to start at split end.
Analysis: Johnson is officially the starter over Josh Morgan, however, that still makes him a less-than-attractive Fantasy option. Keep Johnson benched unless you absolutely have no other healthy starting options. And if that is the case, you didn't draft too well, did you?
News: While Isaac Bruce will start on one side of the field for the Niners, the other starting wideout is still a question mark. The Sacramento Bee reports it's down to veteran Bryant Johnson and rookie Josh Morgan at the 'X' spot. Johnson played in one preseason game and had three catches for 41 yards, while Morgan was a preseason darling catching nine passes for 182 yards and a touchdown over four games.
Analysis: No matter who gets the nod, neither receiver would be better than a low-end sleeper for Week 1, even with the Niners hosting Arizona. Keep Johnson and Morgan benched in all leagues for now. They do serve some value on the bench as a receiver in a Mike Martz-led offense.
News: 49ers head coach Mike Nolan hasn't decided whether Bryant Johnson will start at receiver Week 1 against the Raiders. Johnson (hamstring) was able to play in Friday's preseason finale against the Chargers. He had three catches for 41 yards, including a long reception of 23 yards.
Analysis: Johnson missed most of the preseason schedule while battling the hamstring injury and was in jeopardy of missing the opener because he wasn't caught up to speed. Johnson is a nice, big-bodied receiver with a lot to prove after being passed over in Arizona and signing with the 49ers this offseason. Treat him like a middle-end reserve Fantasy WR with potential to be a weekly starter in deeper leagues.

News:The Sports Xchange reports that 49ers WR Bryant Johnson is expected to miss this week's exhibition finale against the Chargers with a hamstring injury. Johnson has not played in the exhibition season, and coach Mike Nolan expressed some doubt whether Johnson could miss so much of the preseason and still be in the starting lineup for the regular-season opener.
Analysis: Johnson is a nice, big-bodied receiver with a lot to prove after being passed over in Arizona and signing with the 49ers this offseason, and the Mike Martz-led offense he'll be playing in could put him in position to have some really nice stat days. But his legs need to work before he can get on the field. Also, consistency is an issue for him, as is this hamstring problem. Treat him like a middle-end reserve Fantasy WR with potential to be a weekly starter in deeper leagues. Think late-round flier on Johnson.
News: 49ers wide receivers Arnaz Battle (hamstring), Ashley Lelie (calf) and Bryant Johnson (hamstring) did not travel with the team to Chicago for Thursday's preseason game against the Bears and remain questionable for the team's final preseason game on Aug. 29 against the Chargers.
Analysis: Battle is jockeying for playing time this summer but has never been anything better than a one-week replacement off the waiver wire. He's not worth a pick in drafts unless it's with a late-round pick in the deepest of drafts. Without question, Lelie is one of the most over-hyped receivers in Fantasy Football. He can run one route fairly well and the rest with some uncertainty. He is not a reliable Fantasy option even though he's entering a contract year with the Niners. Treat Johnson like a middle-end reserve Fantasy WR with potential to be a weekly starter in deeper leagues. Think late-round flier on Johnson. However all three need to get healthy and see some action before they have any value at all.
News: According to the San Francisco official team Web site, 49ers wide receivers Arnaz Battle (hamstring), Ashley Lelie (calf) and Bryant Johnson (hamstring) will not travel with the team to Chicago for Thursday's preseason game against the Bears. Running back Michael Robinson will also be out with a knee injury and safety Lewis Baker with a thigh injury.

However all three need to get healthy and see some action before they have any value at all. Robinson and Baker don't figure to see enough of the field to be considered viable Fantasy options at their positions.
News: The Niners were without WRs Arnaz Battle, Ashley Lelie and Bryant Johnson in Saturday's preseason contest against the Green Bay Packers.

News: San Francisco WR Bryant Johnson did not play in the club's first preseason game against the Raiders and has already been ruled out for the club's second preseason game against the Packers. Johnson has had trouble with a hamstring injury.
Analysis: Johnson is a nice, big-bodied receiver with a lot to prove after being passed over in Arizona and signing with the 49ers this offseason, and the Mike Martz-led offense he'll be playing in could put him in position to have some really nice stat days. News: San Francisco WR Bryant Johnson did not play in Friday's preseason game against the Raiders, as expected. He remains questionable for Aug. 16 against Green Bay.
Analysis: Johnson is a nice, big-bodied receiver with a lot to prove after being passed over in Arizona and signing with the 49ers this offseason, and the Mike Martz-led offense he'll be playing in could put him in position to have some really nice stat days. Consistency is an issue, as is this new hamstring problem. Treat him like a top-end reserve Fantasy WR with potential to be a weekly starter. Think late-round pick on Johnson.
News: The San Francisco Chronicle reports that 49ers WR Bryant Johnson won't play at Oakland in preseason action Friday because of a sore hamstring that has been bothering him. Johnson has had a decent training camp and hopes to translate what he's learned on the field this season.
Analysis: Johnson is a nice, big-bodied receiver with a lot to prove after being passed over in Arizona and signing with the 49ers this offseason, and the Mike Martz-led offense he'll be playing in could put him in position to have some really nice stat days. News: The Mercury News reports the 49ers first depth chart lists Isaac Bruce and Bryant Johnson as the starting receivers, with Arnaz Battle listed behind Bruce and Jason Hill penciled in behind Johnson.
Analysis: Bruce and Johnson have the chance to be decent sleepers in 2008 with new offensive coordinator Mike Martz now calling plays. Consider taking both with a late-round pick in all leagues. Battle and Hill should be left on the waiver wire, but both could be worth adding during the year if Martz works his usual magic with receivers.
News: WR Bryant Johnson agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers, a deal he confirmed himself on Sirius NFL Radio. Johnson, an unrestricted free agent, was a first-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2003, and had spent his entire career with the Cardinals. Last season, he had 46 receptions for 528 yards and two touchdowns.
Analysis: Johnson has a chance to become the No. 1 wide receiver for the 49ers but must battle for the job first. One hint that leads us to believe he'll attain such status is the Niners' decision to release veteran WR Darrell Jackson. While Johnson does have plenty of upside, along with a chance to be a true No. 1 with the 49ers, there's some serious risk since he's never met his potential. Playing in Mike Martz's pass-friendly offense might be just what the doctor ordered. We're calling him a middle- to late-round sleeper in 2008, especially if the Niners' passing game perks up this offseason. Look for Johnson to remain a No. 4 Fantasy option with the chance to see his value rise.
News: Although he technically started eight games, Bryant Johnson was only Fantasy relevant for four games missed by starter Anquan Boldin. Johnson finished with 528 yards on 46 catches (11.5 avg.) for two touchdowns, and all numbers except receptions were down from 2006. Johnson is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
Analysis: The former first-round pick started to bloom with a career year in 2006 but regressed this season, partially because of his limited role in the Cards' offense. Staying in Arizona might not make sense for him since he could probably land a starting job out of Fitzgerald and Boldin's shadows. That said, he might have some upside to deliver 750 yards and 5 touchdowns next season. Of course, if he happens to stay in Arizona, expect him to only be useful in a replacement role for Arizona's receiving duo.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson had only three catches for 46 yards in Arizona's 30-27 overtime win over the Falcons in Week 16.
Analysis: Johnson is back to playing third fiddle behind Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald, now that both superstars are healthy, so he is far from an advisable start in Week 17 against the Rams.
News: With Anquan Boldin returning to the field, Johnson took somewhat of a back seat to him in Week 15, but still managed to make two catches for 35 yards as Arizona fell 31-24 to the Saints in Week 15.
Analysis: Johnson's Fantasy value takes big dive with the return of Boldin, so owners should probably look elsewhere in Week 16 for Fantasy help when Arizona hosts the Falcons.
News: With Anquan Boldin still nursing a very sore toe, Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson could start once again in Week 15 against the Saints. Do not get too excited, however, as Johnson only caught one pass for five yards in Week 14, although it was for a touchdown.
Analysis: The Saints pass defense is a very porous unit, so Johnson should surely improve his stats from last week. The Cardinals offense is always a risky proposition, however, so consider him nothing more than a low-end No. 3 or high-end No. 4 Fantasy WR in Week 15, depending on the size of your league.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson was in the starting lineup for the second straight game Week 14 against the Seahawks. Johnson, who started in place of Larry Fitzgerald (groin) Week 13, took the spot of Anquan Boldin (toe) Week 14. He caught just one pass against Seattle, but made it count with a 5-yard score in the second quarter. He now has a touchdown in consecutive games.
Analysis: We expected Johnson to make a little more of an impact against the Seahawks, but had a fairly quiet day. That's the up-and-downs of Fantasy Football for you. There is a chance that Boldin is back Week 15 against the Saints and that would push Johnson to being a No. 3 WR. He would then be considered a No. 4 Fantasy WR. If he starts, consider him a No. 3 Fantasy WR.
News: With Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald nursing injuries, Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson looks likely to get a second consecutive start in Week 14 against the Seahawks. Last week he had six grabs for 56 yards and a touchdown.
Analysis: Along with his likely start this week, another thing that bodes well for Johnson's owners is that he has a touchdown in three of his past four games against Seattle. You would think Warner will have to look Johnson's way at least 10 times on Sunday with the injury situation in Arizona, and we consider him a solid No. 3 Fantasy option in Week 14.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson started Week 13 against the Browns in place of the injured Larry Fitzgerald (groin). He later assumed the role as the No. 1 WR when Anquan Boldin left the game in the third quarter with a leg injury. Johnson responded with six catches for 56 yards, including a 1-yard touchdown grab in the third quarter.
Analysis: Johnson has 11 receptions for 136 yards and one touchdown in his last two games. Boldin's injury looked pretty bad, so don't be surprised if Johnson starts again Week 14 against the Seahawks. If that happens, consider Johnson a solid No. 3 Fantasy WR.
News: AZCardinals.com reports that WR Larry Fitzgerald has been slowed by a sore groin in practice this week and will be a game-time decision for Week 13 vs. Cleveland. Earlier in the week, Fitzgerald said he would play, but coach Ken Whisenhunt wants to wait until Sunday to see for sure. If Fitzgerald does not play, Bryant Johnson would likely start in his place.
Analysis: Johnson has the measurables to be a quality NFL receiver but doesn't have the consistent skills. He's at best a No. 3 WR if he gets the nod over Fitzgerald, but owners of Fitzgerald should consider adding Johnson for the coming week.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson had a nice day at the office Week 12 against the 49ers. He caught five passes for 80 yards, but it would have been even more special had he come down with a touchdown grab. Johnson came close as the game hung in the balance. The Cardinals trailed 31-28 with six seconds left. They were down on the 1-yard line with no timeouts after Johnson's 30-yard reception put them in a position to win the game. Kurt Warner lofted a ball up in the corner of the end zone for Johnson, who had the ball knocked out of his hands by a defender.
Analysis: The Cardinals threw the ball plenty Week 12 against the 49ers and Johnson was able to contribute. The Cardinals will likely take to the air again Week 13 against the Browns, who have one of the league's worst pass defenses. However, Johnson is nothing more than a desperation 'flex' option.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson caught one pass for 13 yards in Arizona's 35-27 win over the Bengals in Week 11.
Analysis: Johnson might be the No. 3 WR in Arizona, but he's stuck behind two of the game's elite receivers. Leave him on the bench or the wire in Week 12 against the 49ers.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson caught four passes for 40 yards Week 10 against the Lions.
Analysis: Johnson has little Fantasy value with Anquan Boldin back for the Cardinals. Think of him as nothing better than a No. 4 Fantasy WR for Week 11 at Cincinnati.
News: Bryant Johnson had just one catch for 14 yards at Tampa Bay on Sunday.
Analysis: Johnson is back to being the Cardinals' No. 3 WR as Anquan Boldin is now fully recovered from a hip injury. Consider him nothing more than a No. 4 Fantasy WR when the Cardinals host Detroit in Week 10.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson caught three passes for 27 yards during a Week 7 loss to the Redskins. He now has three or more receptions in his last four games after having fewer than three catches in his first three games.
Analysis: Johnson is back to being the Cardinals' No. 3 WR as Anquan Boldin is now fully recovered from a hip injury. Consider him nothing more than a No. 4 Fantasy WR when the Cardinals return from a bye in Week 9 against the Bucs.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson caught four passes for 29 yards in Arizona's 25-10 loss to the Panthers in Week 6.
Analysis: Johnson was a waiver-wire grab by a few people in Week 6 who expected Kurt Warner to loook Johnson's way numerous times with Anquan Boldin out. Unfortunately, Warner got hurt on the second possession and Bryant's day just never got going. Consider him nothing more than a No. 4 WR when Arizona head to Washington in Week 7.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson (quadricep), the likely starter for the injured Anquan Boldin in Week 6, had full participation in practice again Friday, meaning he'll likely suit up and play against the Panthers.
Analysis: Consider Johnson a Fantasy sleeper and a No. 2 or No. 3 WR this week, especially with the more-consistent Kurt Warner now taking all the snaps under center. When Boldin's healthy, Johnson will revert back to No. 4 WR status in Fantasy.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson (quadricep) did not practice Wednesday, but returned to full reps Thursday as the team prepares for Week 6 vs. Carolina. Johnson is coming off his best performance of the season in Week 5 against the Rams. He had six receptions for 80 yards.
Analysis: Johnson has filled in as the team's No. 2 WR the last two weeks with Anquan Boldin nursing a hip injury. Boldin missed practice Wednesday and Thursday, but might return Week 6 if he can practice Friday. If Boldin plays, then Johnson is more of a No. 4 Fantasy WR or 'flex' option. If Boldin doesn't play, then Johnson can be considered a No. 3 Fantasy WR or possibly low-end No. 2 in larger leagues. Continue to follow the injury news out of Arizona.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson (quadricep) did not practice Wednesday as the team prepares for Week 6 vs. Carolina. Johnson is coming off his best performance of the season in Week 5 against the Rams. He had six receptions for 80 yards.
Analysis: Johnson has filled in as the team's No. 2 WR the last two weeks with Anquan Boldin nursing a hip injury. Boldin also missed practice Wednesday, but might return Week 6. If Boldin plays, then Johnson is more of a No. 4 Fantasy WR or 'flex' option. If Boldin doesn't play, then Johnson can be considered a No. 3 Fantasy WR or possibly low-end No. 2 in larger leagues. But now his status is in doubt and will have to be followed throughout the week.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Jonson caught six passes for 80 yards in Week 5 at St. Louis while starting in place of the injured Anquan Boldin.
Analysis: Boldin may be back in Week 6 and Bryant's Fantasy value hinges on the health of Boldin. Monitor that situation over the week. If Boldin is out again, Bryant will be a decent option as a No. 3 WR in Fantasy play for Week 6 vs. Carolina.
News: Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin (hip, doubtful) was inactivated for Week 5 at St. Louis. Bryant Johnson got the start in his place.
Analysis: Boldin will likely be on the injury report for Week 6 vs. Carolina, but he stands a good chance of playing. Monitor his progress throughout the week. Johnson should be considered a low-end No. 3 receiver for Week 5 and he is best used as a 'flex' option in large formats.
News: For the second time in as many weeks, Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin missed practice on Friday with a bruised hip and is listed as doubtful for Week 5 at St. Louis. Bryant Johnson is expected to start opposite Larry Fitzgerald this week.
Analysis: Boldin's Fantasy owners should expect to be without their stud receiver this week and should make a move to get Bryant Johnson if they haven't already, who now has major sleeper potential for this week's game. With the Cardinals expected to be ahead against the Rams, Johnson immediately fills in as a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR for this week's action.
News: With Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin (hip) attempting to practice and play at St. Louis in Week 5, WR Bryant Johnson is no lock to be of use Fantasywise. He was a disappointment last week without Boldin in the lineup, catching three passes for 37 yards.
Analysis: Unless Boldin is out, Johnson should be out of starting lineups and maybe even off of Fantasy rosters, especially with the Cardinals expected to run all over the Rams in Week 5.
News: With Anquan Boldin out, Cardinals WR Jerheme Urban got more looks than Bryant Johnson in Week 4 against the Steelers. Johnson caught three passes for 37 yards while Urban five passes for 53 yards, including a six-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter.
Analysis: Looks like the Cardinals don't have a clear No. 2 WR with Boldin sidelined. If, however, Boldin sits for Week 5 at the Rams, still consider Johnson a sleeper based on the matchup and his potential.
News: The Cardinals listed WR Anquan Boldin as inactive for Week 4 against the Steelers. He missed practice all week with a bruised hip. Bryant Johnson replaced him in the lineup.
Analysis: Boldin's Fantasy owners should have expected this. They should make a move right now to get Bryant Johnson, who has major sleeper potential for this week's game. With the Cardinals expected to be either right in the game or playing from behind, Johnson immediately fills in as a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR for this week's action. Boldin is normally a No. 2 Fantasy WR when healthy. He caught two touchdown passes Week 3 against the Ravens.
News: The Arizona Republic reports that Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin missed practice for the third time this week on Friday with a bruised hip and is listed as doubtful for Week 4 vs. Pittsburgh. Bryant Johnson is expected to start opposite Larry Fitzgerald this week.
Analysis: Boldin's Fantasy owners should expect to be without their stud receiver this week and should make a move right now to get Bryant Johnson, who now has major sleeper potential for this week's game. With the Cardinals expected to be either right in the game or playing from behind, Johnson immediately fills in as a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR for this week's action.
News: Arizona WR Bryant Johnson had one catch for 18 yards Sunday against Baltimore.
Analysis: Johnson is the No. 3 WR for the Cardinals and should not be used in Week 4 against the Steelers.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson (hamstring, questionable) was active for Week 2 vs. Seattle. He made two catches for 23 yards.
Analysis: When healthy, Johnson is only worth a look as a No. 4 or 5 Fantasy receiver or 'flex' option. He's not even worth using as that in Week 3 against a tough Baltimore defense.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson (hamstring, questionable) was active for Week 2 vs. Seattle.
Analysis: It appears as though the hamstring injury popped up on Johnson after Thursday's practice. When healthy, Johnson is only worth a look as a No. 4 or 5 Fantasy receiver or 'flex' option heading into Week 2 against the Seahawks.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Week 2 vs. Seattle. Johnson went through limited practice drills Friday after participating fully on Wednesday and Thursday.
Analysis: It appears as though the hamstring injury popped up on Johnson after Thursday's practice. He will likely be a game-time decision, so Fantasy owners will need to keep an eye out for Sunday's inactives. If healthy, Johnson is only worth a look as a No. 4 or 5 Fantasy receiver or 'flex' option heading into Week 2 against the Seahawks.
News: Bryant Johnson managed just one reception in Week 1 against the 49ers, posting 12 yards. He dropped another pass in the second half and QB Matt Leinart did not look his way the remainder of the game.
Analysis: Johnson is only worth a look as a No. 4 or 5 Fantasy receiver or 'flex' option heading into Week 2 against the Seahawks.
News: Cardinals QB Kurt Warner threw a 58-yard touchdown pass to Bryant Johnson on his only drive of the game during Saturday's preseason game against the Raiders. Johnson led all receivers in receptions (three) and yards (87).
Analysis: Johnson is at best a reserve WR option for Fantasy use as he isn't a big part of the Cardinals offense behind Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. Expect to find him on the waiver wire at some point following 2007 drafts.
News: The Arizona Republic reports that Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson was limited in the club's May minicamp with a sore hamstring. Johnson is expected to fill in as the No. 3 WR in Arizona behind Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald.
Analysis: Johnson is at best a reserve WR option for Fantasy use as he isn't a big part of the Cardinals offense behind Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. Expect to find him on the waiver wire at some point following 2007 drafts.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson played in all 16 games in 2006, starting eight, catching 40 passes for 740 yards and four touchdowns. His yardage and TDs were career-highs. Johnson saw prominent time for three weeks when WR Larry Fitzgerald got hurt, but only scored one TD during that span. He also failed to record a 100-yard game.
Analysis: Johnson is at best a reserve WR option for Fantasy use as he isn't a big part of the Cardinals offense behind Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. Expect to find him on the waiver wire at some point in 2007 drafts.
News: Johnson (hip) had three receptions for 76 yards in Week 17 at San Diego.
Analysis: Johnson is a solid No. 4 or 5 receiver worthy of Fantasy consideration late on Draft Day 2007 in larger leagues.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson (hip) is listed as probable for Week 17 at San Diego.
Analysis: Johnson is only worth considering as a No. 4 Fantasy receiver or 'flex' option for Week 17 at San Diego.

Analysis: Johnson should be considered a No. 4 WR at best in Week 16 against the 49ers.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson caught three passes for 81 yards in Week 14 at Arizona, including a 56-yard score.
Analysis: Johnson has been a useful No. 3 Fantasy WR this season. Use him in that role for Week 15 vs. Denver.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson had two receptions for 38 yards in a Week 13 win over the Rams.
Analysis: Bryant has had some decent games this year, but he should be considered nothing more than a No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 14 vs. Seattle.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson caught four passes for 48 yards in Week 12 at Minnesota.
Analysis: Bryant has had his moments this year, but he should be considered nothing more than a No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 13 at St. Louis.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson had four receptions for 47 yards and 2-yard touchdown reception in a Week 11 win over the Lions.
Analysis: While Bryant has had his moments this year, he should be considered nothing more than a No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 12 against Minnesota.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson is averaging 20.2 yards per catch (18-364), second in the NFL (minimum 15 receptions). He is back at his third receiver spot in the rotation after filling in admirably for Larry Fitzgerald for three games. Johnson is the Cardinals' best speed threat deep, as the team comes out of the bye vs. Dallas.
Analysis: While Bryant has had his moments this year, he should be considered nothing more than a No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 11 against Detroit.
News: Arizona WR Bryant Johnson had two catches for 24 yards against Dallas.
Analysis: Johnson's value has decreased since the return of WR Larry Fitzgerald. He should only be used in deep leagues as a No. 3 WR now.
News: With Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) expected back in Week 10 vs. Dallas, expect Bryant Johnson's playing time to dry up.
Analysis: The Cowboys are strong against the pass, so even if Johnson saw extensive playing time, he wouldn't be a solid option. Keep him reserved in Week 10, and for the forseeable future.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson filled in for Larry Fitzgerald the past three games, rising up among league leaders with his 21.3-yard average. He is expected to return to his role as the No. 3 receiver, and the Cardinals best speed threat deep, when the team comes out of this weekend's bye.
Analysis: Although he has improved on his yards per catch, Johnson hasn't had all that impressive numbers since becoming the team's No. 2 WR. He has only six catches for 113 yards (87 coming in one game) and one touchdown. He had better production as the team's No. 3 WR, where he had 10 catches for more than 200 yards and one touchdown in five games. Johnson's Fantasy value will take a hit when Fitzgerald returns. Consider trading him while his value is high or using him as a No. 4 WR or 'flex' option the remainder of the season.
News: Arizona WR Bryant Johnson had one catch for 9 yards against Green Bay.
Analysis: Johnson had a disappointing day for the Cardinals. The Cardinals are off in Week 9 and keep Johnson reserved.
News: Arizona WR Bryant Johnson is coming off a career-high 87 receiving yards at Oakland, starting in place on injured Larry Fitzgerald. Johnson likely will start for Fitzgerald again Sunday at Green Bay. Johnson's previous career high was 86 yards -- against this weekend's foe, the Packers, in Johnson's rookie year, 2003. Johnson leads the league with his 22.1-yard average (minimum 15 catches).
Analysis: Johnson is a good No. 3 WR this week against the Packers, who have the worst pass defense in the NFL.
News: Bryant Johnson got another start in Week 7 at Oakland in place of Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring). He finished with three grabs for 87 yards.
Analysis: As long as Fitzgerald is sidelined, Johnson is a decent No. 3 or 4 Fantasy option or 'flex' option. The Cardinals meet the Packers at Lambeau Field in Week 8.
News: Johnson had two receptions for 17 yards in Week 6 against Chicago, but one of the grabs was good for a touchdown.
Analysis: Johnson saw more of a role in the offense with Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) sidelined, but perhaps not as much as Fantasy owners would have liked. He is worth a look as a No. 4 receiver or 'flex' player in Week 7 at Oakland in leagues of 12 or more teams.
News: With Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald hurting, it appears that WR Bryant Johnson will step into Fitzgerald's spot. Johnson has one of the league's highest-average yards per catch but he's in the doghouse for dropping a ball in the end zone last weekend that might have beaten Kansas City. Veteran WR Troy Walters also moves up in the plans and would get the call if Johnson doesn't move out of the doghouse for dropping a pass in the end zone last weekend.
Analysis: It is unlikely that Cardinals head coach Dennis Green would risk his team's season just because Johnson had one bad play. Drop passes happens to the best of players. Johnson has been one of the most added players in Fantasy leagues this past week. The Bears come to town in Week 6 and it might be hard for Johnson to break free. Keep that in mind when setting your Fantasy lineups. Consider him a No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 6.
News: According to media reports in Arizona, Cardinals coach Dennis Green says the team will be without star WR Larry Fitzgerald for two to five weeks because of a hamstring injury. Green says Fitzgerald either has a severe right hamstring pull or a slight tear. The Pro Bowl receiver was injured late in the first quarter of Sunday's 23-to-20 loss to Kansas City. He finished with two catches for 15 yards and a touchdown.
Analysis: This is awful for Fitzgerald owners. He has suffered so far this season with the Cardinals quarterback situation but was still considered a No. 1 WR. Keep him reserved because of the injury and hope for a speedy return. His absence will hurt rookie quarterback Matt Leinart, but WR Anquan Boldin and the Cardinals No. 3 WR, Bryant Johnson, should benefit with Fitzgerald's absence.
News: WR Bryant Johnson lead the Cardinals in receiving Sunday with 82 yards on six receptions as the Cardinals lost 23-20 to the Chiefs.
Analysis: When WR Larry Fitzgerald left the game with an injury, Johnson stepped up and became QB Matt Leinart's go-to-guy. Prior to Week 5, Johnson was gradually showing everyone that he could be a vital part of the Cardinals offense. If Fitzgerald is out for a long period of time, he might even get more of a chance to show what he has got. Consider Johnson a 'flex' or bye-week replacement for the time being, but could be making a move up. Still, Week 6 the Bears come to town and Johnson shouldn't be anywhere near your starting lineup.
News: The following players did not record an offensive stat for the Cardinals in Week 4 at Atlanta: FB Obafemi Ayanbadejo, RB Marcel Shipp, RB Diamond Ferri, WR Bryant Johnson and QB 16 J.Navarre (emergency QB).
Analysis: None of these players should be considered for Week 5 vs. Kansas City.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson is keeping defenses honest that believe they can concentrate on the intermediate routes of Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald. Johnson, the speedster of the three, leads the league with a 36.3-yard average per catch.
Analysis: Johnson has been a pleasant surprise this year as No. 3 WR for the Cardinals. He is working hard for his catches and showing everyone why the Cardinals drafted him in the first round a few years back. A Week 4 matchup against the Falcons is not a favorable one, but monitor Johnson's progress as he might turn into a No. 3 or No. 4 Fantasy wide receiver.
News: WR Bryant Johnson had one catch for 54 yards in Week 3 as the Cardinals lost 16-14 to the Rams.
News: Arizona WR Bryant Johnson had three receptions for 91 yards with the Cardinals lone touchdown as Arziona lost 21-10 to Seattle in Week 2. His touchdown catch went for 40 yards.
Analysis: Johnson has been a pleasant surprise this year as No. 3 WR for the Cardinals. He is working hard for his catches and showing everyone why the Cardinals drafted him in the first round a few years back. Start to consider Johnson as a No. 4 or No. 5 WR option in your league, but don't forget that he is still the third option at receiver behind Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin in Arizona.
News: Cardinals WR Bryant Johnson caught two passes for 51 yards in the Cardinals' 34-27 Week 1 win over the 49ers.
Analysis: Johnson is a nice No. 3 or No. 4 option in deep leagues, but he probably won't get nearly as many touches as his teammates Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. Be very careful in choosing to start Johnson.
News: According to ArizonaCardinals.com, WR Bryant Johnson doesn't seem to be bothered by the fact he is overshadowed on the depth chart by Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald. “It is not about proving to people, I just think every guy that is a receiver is motivated because we all have our own style and we all have a lot of fun going out there and make plays," Bryant said on the Cardinals website. "We are all competing, just not against each other, just competing to make big plays together.”
Analysis: Johnson is clearly only the third best receiver in Arizona behind Boldin and Fitzgerald. He has little Fantasy appeal at this point, as the team might use more two-TE sets to limit his time on the field.
News: Bryant Johnson (undisclosed injury) was able to play Friday at Chicago. He caught three passes for 49 yards, including a 4-yard TD pass from Matt Leinart.

News: The East Valley Tribune reports the Arizona Cardinals will utilize more two tight end sets next season with Leonard Pope and Adam Bergen. That means Bryant Johnson, the team's third wide receiver, could see less time on the field.
Analysis: Johnson has been overshasowed by Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald, and less time between the white lines will make him even less attractive for Fantasy Footballers. He'll have no real value in drafts.
News: Bryant Johnson recorded 40 receptions for 432 yards and one TD in 14 games (four starts) as the No. 3 wide receiver in Arizona.
Analysis: Johnson will find it hard to produce with Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin ahead of him on the depth chart. He's worth no more than a late-round flier in drafts in 2006.
News: Johnson had five receptions for 77 yards in Week 12 against the Jaguars.
Analysis: Johnson had a decent game and should have continued success in Week 13 at San Francisco. He is worth using as a No. 4 or 5 Fantasy receiver or 'flex' player for the favorable matchup.

Analysis: Johnson should be benched in leagues for Week 10.

Analysis: Johnson had a nice week last week but could have no week if his shoulder ails him. Owners should look elsewhere for a receiver.
News: Johnson had six receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown in Week 9 against Seattle.
Analysis: Johnson was the team's No. 2 receiver with Anquan Boldin (knee) sidelined until at least Week 11. He is a decent No. 4 receiver or 'flex' player in Week 10 at Detroit.
News: WR Bryant Johnson, a 2003 first-round pick who despite being the fastest of the Cardinals top three wideouts has little to show for it, is moving into the lineup along with WR Larry Fitzgerald because Anquan Boldin (knee) will not play Sunday vs. Seattle.
Analysis: Johnson is an intriguing sleeper in deeper leagues that require three or more wideouts. The Seahawks have a sound pass defense, but being No. 2 to Larry Fitz has proven to be a productive position in the Cards' offense.
News: The Arizona Republic reports that Anquan Boldin suffered a right knee injury in the third quarter of Sunday's game against Dallas that took him out of the game early. It's the same knee that he injured in training camp last season, which forced him to miss six games in 2004. "It's probably a meniscus," Cardinals coach Dennis Green said. "Hopefully, it's not a bad tear." Boldin indicated that the knee was bothering him for the past two weeks anyway. "I'm kind of careful of what I do, certain steps I want to make, certain movements that I do," Boldin said. "It kind of hurts a little bit. I'm kind of cautious on the way I fall and the way I cut."
Analysis: Boldin will receive an MRI on the knee Monday, but if it reveals a serious tear, he will have to sit for at least two months. Larry Fitzgerald would certainly see more balls thrown his way, but he would also face tougher coverage by defenses. Bryant Johnson would likely replace Boldin in the starting lineup. Consider picking him up in larger leagues. Boldin and Fitzgerald have scored all seven of the Cardinals' offensive touchdowns this season.
