How Lloyd's signing impacts 49ers' receiving corps

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(4/15/2014) The 49ers signed Brandon Lloyd on Tuesday, which should impact Kassim Osgood and Jon Baldwin but not matter much to Quinton Patton, reports ESPN.

The 49ers are locked in with their top two receivers in Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin, and Patton is expected to be No. 3 on the depth chart. After that, the 49ers are wide open, and Lloyd could be No. 4 ahead of Baldwin and Osgood.

The report says if Lloyd makes the team Baldwin will likely be out. The team re-signed Osgood this offseason because he is a huge part of the special teams. But the 49ers will likely not keep more than six receivers.

Patton, who finished the season strong in 2013 as a rookie, should have time to develop as the No. 3 option. The 49ers are also expected to take a wide receiver in the draft.

Tight end Vance McDonald was targeted twice without making a catch. He stumbled on one route that would have gained about 20 yards.

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/10/2013) Nearly all who were injured have been cleared to play Sunday by the 49ers against Carolina. The two exceptions on the inactive list, coincidentally, are both named Quinton. They are defensive lineman Quinton Dial (ankle) and wide receiver Quinton Patton (foot).

The healthy scratches are quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson, defensive tackle Tank Carradine, guard Joe Looney, wide receiver Kassim Osgood and cornerback Eric Wright.

49ers still waiting on WR to step up

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(8/9/2013) The 49ers are looking for a receiver to step up opposite Anquan Boldin with Michael Crabtree (Achilles) out, and the group had mixed results during Thursday's preseason opener against Denver, reports the Sacramento Bee.

Coach Jim Harbaugh praised receivers Marlon Moore, who started the game, and Kassim Osgood, who played well both on offense and on special teams. As far as A.J. Jenkins, who played more snaps than any other receiver but who ranked 10th in receiving yards Thursday. "Ah, it could have been better," Harbaugh said.

Newcomer Austin Collie got into the game at the end and had two catches for 20 yards. "A little foreign because it's been so long," said Collie, who missed most of the 2012 season with a knee injury. "But it felt good."

(8/9/2013) 49ers receiver Kassim Osgood made his San Francisco debut in Thursday's exhibition opener against the Broncos.

He caught a 16-yard pass late in the first half near midfield for his longest gain of the night. He was targeted four times and finished with three catches for 34 yards in a 10-6 defeat.

49ers WR roundup: Hall impressing, Jenkins not

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/30/2013) The 49ers have a hole to fill opposite Anquan Boldin with Michael Crabtree expected to miss much of the regular season but no one's stepped up thus far in camp. Kyle Williams (hamstring) and Ricardo Lockette (hip) both are sidelined and Marlon Moore, Kassim Osgood and Quinton Patton (jammed finger) appear gimpy as well according to Comcast Sportsnet.

Second-year receiver and former first-round pick A.J. Jenkins hasn't ascended, per the report. He didn't have any receptions in team drills on Sunday and remains undistinguished.

If there's been a bright spot, it's been Chad Hall. Per the report, he's made the biggest impact of all the receivers and has even caught the eye of teammate Vernon Davis.

"I really like Chad," Davis said. "He's quick, he's fast, (and) he's doing everything that the coaches are asking him to do and he comes to work."

After originally signing with San Diego as an undrafted free agent in 2003, he spent seven years with the Chargers before signing with the Jaguars in 2010. A 33-year-old native of Boston, MA, Osgood played at San Diego State University where he finished second in the nation with 108 receptions earning First-Team All-Mountain West honors as a senior. Hastings (6-0, 185) most recently signed with the 49ers on March 7, 2013.
