Urban hopes to stick with Chiefs
(6/8/2010) The Kansas City Star reports that Chiefs WR Jerheme Urban is hoping to stick with Kansas City this year and make an impact in 2010. Urban, 29, is on his fourth team in seven-plus seasons. "I'm not getting any younger," said Urban, who caught 74 passes the last three seasons with Arizona. "I'm ready to make a step, career-wise." Urban will have to beat out Dwayne Bowe, Chris Chambers and rookie Dexter McCluster for playing time, but coach Todd Haley, who worked with Urban with the Cardinals, is fond of him. "I'm scratching and clawing every single day out there because they're always bringing in younger guys, always drafting guys to take your spot," he said. "I never feel like I'm safe. I have to go out there every single day and make the most of it."
McCluster to replace Urban
(4/27/2010) The Kansas City Star reports Todd Haley and Charlie Weis are excited about using rookie WR Dexter McCluster, who was taken in the second round of the NFL Draft at No. 36 overall. The paper reports some of the things they were drawing up included Jamaal Charles, Thomas Jones and McCluster all on the field at once. The Chiefs already faced the prospect of a crowded backfield with Charles, who ran for more than 900 yards over the final eight games last year, and Jones, who rushed for more than 1,400 yards for the New York Jets in 2009. To this, they added McCluster, who between rushing and receiving accumulated 1,700 yards and 11 touchdowns last year at Ole Miss. The Chiefs plan to use him in a variety of ways: as a wide receiver, slot receiver, traditional running back and perhaps even as a quarterback in the Wildcat formation. He should do well working with Dwayne Bowe and Chris Chambers, but he will likely replace Jerheme Urban as the No. 3 WR in the offense.
