LB Alexander heads to Arizona

News: The Cardinals have signed linebacker Lorenzo Alexander, formerly of the Redskins. It sounds like he'll have the chance to start. "The Cardinals have already kind of pegged me in a starting role which is very exciting for me," the 30-year-old told CBS Washington. "I'll be a linebacker that helps out on special teams instead of special teams being my bread and butter. It’s going to allow me to grow as a player."
Analysis: Alexander has been a special-teams ace that had the chance to play a little defense last year, notching 2.5 sacks. There's a chance for him to put up some decent numbers but it's probably best to take a wait-and-see approach with him rather than draft him with a late choice.

Alexander gets in sack column

News: Redskins linebacker Lorenzo Alexander had a big game Week 6 against the Vikings. Alexander helped Washington pull the victory as he finished the game with five tackles and a 1.5 sacks. That was his first time taking down the quarterback this season.
Analysis: Alexander hasn't been getting to quarterbacks with regularity but hopefully will more going forward. That said, he doesn't make nearly enough tackles to matter outside the very deepest of Fantasy IDP formats.

Alexander wants to shed weight

News: LOLB Lorenzo Alexander said he'd like to lose about 15 pounds so he can become more explosive and improve his pass-rush skills. Alexander had 1.5 sacks this season, and the Redskins have made it known that they need a better pass rush from this spot.
Analysis: Anything Alexander can do to be more relevant in the stat sheets would help. Until then, he shouldn't be counted on for regular Fantasy use.

Alexander limited on Friday

News: Redskins LB Lorenzo Alexander was limited in practice on Friday with a hamstring injury. He is listed as questionable for Week 16 against the Jaguars.
Analysis: Alexander has been a bit banged up this season but has still managed to play in every game this season. He has 50 tackles on the year to go along with 1.5 sacks and can be considered a low-end Fantasy LB, when healthy.

Alexander active in Week 14

News: Washington LB Lorenzo Alexander (hamstring) was active for Week 14 against Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Alexander has played in 12 games this season entering Week 14 and has 1 1/2 sacks and two forced fumbles. He only has low-end Fantasy value in IDP leagues.

Alexander a game-time decision

News: Washington LB Lorenzo Alexander will be a game-time decision for the Week 12 game against the Vikings, coach Mike Shanahan said Friday. He left last week's game with the injury.
Analysis: Alexander was one of eight injured Redskins in the Week 11 game. He has just 16 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks on the year for Washington and brings just low-end Fantasy value in IDP leagues to the table, when healthy.

Alexander injures hamstring

News: Redskins LB Lorenzo Alexander, who forced Vince Young's fumble deep in Redskins territory in the first quarter of the Week 11 contest, left the game with a hamstring injury later on. He finished with one tackle.
Analysis: Alexander was one of eight injured Redskins in the Week 11 game. He has just 16 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks on the year for Washington and brings just low-end Fantasy value in IDP leagues to the table, when healthy.

Alexander plays in preseason game

News: Washington DL Lorenzo Alexander was able to play in Thursday's preseason game against the Steelers.
Analysis: Alexander won't be worth owning in Fantasy even if he does make the team, so ignore him on Draft Day.

Alexander leaves with ab strain

News: Redskins' DT Lorenzo Alexander and T Mike Williams both left with abdominal strains.
Analysis: Alexander is not expected to be worth owning in Fantasy even if he does end up making the team and should be ignored in all formats.

Redskins have few banged up players

News: Redskins CB Carlos Rogers (calf), FB Eddie Williams (hamstring), DT Lorenzo Alexander (foot) and DT J.D. Skolnitsky (hamstring) missed practice Thursday.
Analysis: Rogers is the only player among the group that is a starter for the Redskins. He has low-end Fantasy appeal in IDP leagues. This injury is not considered serious. It's safe to ignore the three other players.

Redskins make roster moves

News: The Washington Redskins ended Lorenzo Alexander's season on Wednesday, placing the defensive tackle on injured reserve and signing linebacker Tyson Smith. Alexander injured his hamstring Sunday in the Redskins' victory over the Eagles. The second-year reserve and special teamer played in 15 games, posting 26 tackles, two sacks and two passes defended on the season. Smith, a 6-foot-2, 250-pound free agent, was in training camp with the Dallas Cowboys this season. The 27-year-old was on the Redskins practice squad in 2006 and has also had stints with the Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants.
Analysis: Neither player warrants Fantasy consideration because they don't post enough stats. Ignore both players.

L. Alexander tweaks hammy Week 16

News: Washington DL Lorenzo Alexander did not do much defensively in the Redskins' 10-3 win over the Eagles in Week 16. Alexander had one tackle in the game but was part of one of the more bizarre plays as the Eagles got on the board. The Eagles' only score followed an unusual sight - big Alexander trying to cover RB Brian Westbrook down the left sideline on a pass play. Westbrook caught the pass and kept running for a 47-yard gain to the Redskins 12 - while Alexander tumbled to the ground with a hamstring injury. Four plays later, David Akers kicked a 22-yard field goal. There was no word as to the extent of the injury but Alexander was definitely in pain on the sideline.
Analysis: Alexander has two sacks in the last five weeks and that makes him a very low-end Fantasy IDP player, when healthy. He's not worth using in Week 17 at San Francisco.

L. Alexander sacks Fitzpatrick

News: Washington DL Lorenzo Alexander made three tackles and picked up a sack of QB Ryan Fitzpatrick in Week 15's loss to the Bengals.
Analysis: Alexander picked up his second sack in the last four weeks and that makes him a very low-end Fantasy IDP player. He's not worth using in Week 16 against the Eagles.

Alexander gets first sack Week 12

News: Washington DL Lorenzo Alexander picked up three tackles and a sack in Week 12's win over the Seahawks.
Analysis: Alexander has 8 total tackles on the season. He doesn't play much for the Redskins and should not be owned in Fantasy at this time.

Alexander becomes two-way player

News: Meet Lorenzo Alexander, the NFL's newest two-way player. "It's like going back to high school," Alexander said. "Gridiron football." The first-year player is wearing the white jersey of the offense in practice this week, instead of his usual defense burgundy. A remarkable series of injuries has left the Washington Redskins in desperate need of offensive linemen for Sunday's game against Arizona, so they've moved the 300-pound defensive tackle across the line of scrimmage and have made him a guard. "I've got to know the defensive stuff, too," said Alexander, who is attending the offensive line meetings while catching up on the defense's schemes in his spare time. "It'll be a full-packed weekend, as far as watching film and getting the game plan and stuff."
Analysis: Alexander lined up at the first-team left guard in practices on Wednesday and Thursday, participating in the Redskins' version of "What's My Line?" Todd Wade, Casey Rabach and Stephon Heyer were all hurt in last week's loss to Green Bay, compounding the serious injuries earlier this season to Jon Jansen and Randy Thomas. "Every day we're redoing the offensive line," assistant coach Joe Bugel said. Alexander wasn't a big factor in Fantasy leagues as a reserve defensive lineman and the fact he will split time on the offensive line further squashes his Fantasy value. Ignore him in IDP leagues.

Redskins list Week 3 inactives

News: Redskins DL Lorenzo Alexander, DL Ryan Boschetti, TE Cody Boyd, QB Mark Brunell (3rd QB), WR Reche Caldwell, SS Vernon Fox and DB Fred Smoot are all inactive Week 3 vs. N.Y. Giants.
Analysis: None of these players are solid Fantasy contributors when active. Keep them reserved in all Fantasy formats for Week 3.

Redskins list Week 2 inactives

News: The Redskins' list of Week 2 inactives for Monday's game at the Eagles includes QB Mark Brunell, DB Fred Smoot, DB Vernon Fox, DL Lorenzo Alexander, WR Shaun Bodiford, TE Cody Boyd, WR Reche Caldwell and DL Phillip Daniels.
Analysis: These players are all either reserves or starters who don't contribute meaningful statistics. None deserve consideration in Fantasy leagues.

Boyd among Week 1 inactives

News: TE Cody Boyd, along with RB Marcus Mason, CB David Macklin, DL Ryan Boschetti, DL Lorenzo Alexander, WR Shaun Bodiford and QB Mark Brunell, were all named inactive for Week 1 vs. Miami.
Analysis: None of these players have any real Fantasy value.

Skins sign group of players

News: The Redskins signed 16 players, all prospects who will essentially get offseason tryouts to earn a spot at training camp. Seven of the players signed spent at least part of the season on the practice squad: WRs Steven Harris and Ryan Hoag, LB Anthony Trucks, DTs Lorenzo Alexander and Vaka Manapuna and defensive end Jamaal Green. Also signed were QB Casey Bramlet, WR Cedric Bonner, DT tackle Jared Clauss, DBs Jerrell Pippens and Chip Cox, TE Eric Edwards and defensive end Chris Wilson.
Analysis: Despite the laundry list of players, none should be considered for Fantasy use at this time.

Panthers trim roster Saturday

News: The Carolina Panthers released 22 players on Saturday, including quarterbacks Stefan LeFors and Brett Basanez, meaning they will enter the season with only two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster. Among the more surprising cuts were linebacker Keith Adams, a free-agent pickup from Philadelphia this offseason, and wide receiver Efrem Hill, the only player to return punts for the Panthers during the preseason. Also released were running backs Alex Haynes and Jamal Robertson; fullback Casey Cramer; defensive linemen Jovan Haye, Atiyyah Ellison and Lorenzo Alexander; offensive linemen Chad Beasley, Dave Kadella, Adam O'Connor, and Adam Stenavich; linebacker David Bergeron; wide receivers Taye Biddle, Jovon Bouknight, and Justin McCullum; cornerback Jarrett Bush; defensive backs Jermaine Hardy, Billy Parker, and Nate Salley, who's the only one of Carolina's eight draft picks this season who didn't make the team.
Analysis: With Jake Delhomme and Chris Weinke the only quarterbacks, tight end Kris Mangum will serve as the team's emergency third quarterback. Head coach John Fox said the Panthers expect to add a quarterback to the practice squad, and that likely will be either Basanez or LeFors. Running back Eric Shelton, a former second-round draft pick who spent last year on injured reserve and struggled during the preseason, beat out Haynes and Robertson.
