News: As Cardinals rookie quarterback Ryan Lindley dropped back to pass in the second quarter Week 11 at Atlanta, Falcons defensive lineman John Abraham came in from the blind side and got his hand on the ball a split-second before Lindley's arm came forward. While both teams mostly stood around, thinking it was an incomplete pass, Abraham motioned for Jonathan Babineaux to pick up it up. The 300-pound tackle did just that, running 15 yards for a stunning touchdown. "We're always taught to finish play," Babineaux said. "I looked at the ref. I saw him running, so I figured the play was still going." Babineaux also had two solo tackles on the day.
Analysis: As you can imagine, touchdowns are pretty rare for Babineaux. In fact, as with most defensive tackles, stats of any sort are rare. He does have 3 1/2 sacks this season, which is enough to make him relevant in deeper Fantasy IDP leagues, but he should remain on the waiver wire in most.
News: Falcons defensive linemen Jonathan Babineaux recorded his 3.5 sack of the season in Week 9 against the Cowboys. Babineaux also finished with a team-high seven tackles in the 19-13 win, with two of those credited as solo stops. He also registered a pass defended.
Analysis: Babineaux has been playing very well for the Falcons this year as he has already surpassed his tackle and sack totals from last season. While playing defensive tackle does limit his numbers some weeks, Babineaux's ability to get to the quarterback keeps him relevant in deeper IDP formats.
News: Falcons DL Jonathan Babineaux, who missed three games earlier this season with a partially torn MCL, recorded his first sack Week 9 at Indianapolis. He also had two tackles, both solo.
Analysis: As a defensive tackle, Babineaux is typically creating space for other players to record sacks rather than picking them up himself. Still, he has had as many as six in a season before. If you're desperate at DL in a Fantasy IDP league, you could do worse than him off the waiver wire.
News: Falcons DL Jonathan Babineaux was active for the second straight game Week 6 against the Panthers after partially tearing his MCL in Week 1. He missed three games with the injury.
Analysis: Babineaux actually returned Week 5 against the Packers, but he didn't do anything statistically. He will provide the occasional sack, but as an interior lineman, his value is greater in real life than in Fantasy. You should continue to treat him as just a low-end option in Fantasy IDP leagues.
News: DT Jonathan Babineaux suffered a partially torn MCL during Sundays game in Chicago. He will miss somewhere between three to five weeks but not need surgery, according to his agent Jack Bechta.
Analysis: Babineaux's loss is bigger for the Falcons than Fantasy owners. He is a starting defensive tackle and a decent pass rusher, but he doesn't fill the stat sheet on a weekly basis and has very low-end Fantasy appeal when healthy.
News: Falcons DL Jonathan Babineaux (knee, shoulder) is listed as probable for Week 1 at Chicago. Babineaux practiced in full Thursday and Friday after limited reps Wednesday.
Analysis: Babineaux is one of the better defensive tackles in the NFL. Not only can he stop the run, but he can also get after the passer. However, he isn't usually a stat machine, so Babineaux remains just a low-end Fantasy DL to start with favorable matchups.
News: The Falcons have listed DL Jordan Babineaux as questionable for Saturday's Divisional Playoff game against Green Bay. Babineaux has been dealing with a shoulder injury.
Analysis: Keep an eye on Babineaux's status and hope he can play against the Packers. When healthy, he has minimal Fantasy value in IDP leagues, and he's not worth drafting in the majority of formats in 2011.
News: Falcons DL Jonathan Babineaux (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Week 17 against the Panthers. He did not practice all week.
Analysis: Babineaux has not missed a game this season, but his status for Week 17 is in jeopardy. Babineaux is a pretty good NFL tackle, but he doesn't rack up a ton of stats and that is not good for Fantasy purposes. He is a low-end option when healthy.
News: Atlanta DT Jonathan Babineaux recovered a fumble in the end zone for his first career touchdown in the Falcons' 34-18 victory over Seattle in Week 15. Babineaux, whose brother Jordan Babineaux notched an interception for the Seahawks earlier in the game, became the second Atlanta defensive lineman to score a touchdown this season.
Analysis: Babineaux upstaged his brother's play to help the Falcons extend their lead while cruising to their eighth consecutive victory. Babineaux also finished with two tackles and now has three forced fumbles this season. He still only has marginal Fantasy value in IDP leagues and should be left on waivers for Atlanta's Week 16 matchup against New Orleans.
News: Atlanta DL Jonathan Babineaux recorded his third sack of the season in Week 13 against Tampa Bay. He would hit QB Josh Freeman for a 9-yard loss, one of two hits he made. The Falcons would win the game, 28-24.
Analysis: Babineaux has just 19 tackles and three sacks for the Falcons, as he is more of a run-stopper on the front seven. He also has an interception and two forced fumbles, but isn't really worth owning in any Fantasy IDP league. Leave him on waivers heading into Week 14 against the Panthers.
News: Falcons DL Jonathan Babineaux, who hasn't recorded a sack since Week 3, again went without one Week 9 against the Buccaneers. He did, however, record his first interception since 2006 and only the second of his career. He finished with one solo tackle.
Analysis: Babineaux is a good interior lineman, but even the best rarely contribute anything statistically. He's no different there. Obviously, the interceptions are rare for him, and the tackles and sacks are in short supply as well. He's just a low-end option in Fantasy IDP leagues.
News: Falcons DL Jonathan Babineaux played well in Sunday's game at New Orleans in Week 3. Babineaux had four tackles and a sack. Three of his tackles were assisted.
Analysis: Babineaux was suspended for the first game of the season, but he's capable of playing at this level. Still, let him prove it first before considering him a must-start Fantasy option in IDP leagues. Don't use Babineaux in the majority of leagues in Week 4 against the 49ers.
News: The Falcons made room on their roster Tuesday for previously suspended DT Jonathan Babineaux by releasing OL Rob Bruggeman. Babineaux sat out the opening game following a 2009 arrest.
Analysis: Babineaux is an important run stuffer for the Falcons and is a pretty good pass rusher as a defensive tackle as well. But he is more of a low-end Fantasy DL since he has never had more than six sacks in a season.
News: As expected, Falcons DL Jonathan Babineaux sat out Week 1 against the Steelers to serve a one-game suspension for an arrest last year. He is eligible to return in Week 2 against the Cardinals.
Analysis: Babineaux is an important run stuffer for the Falcons and is a pretty good pass rusher as a defensive tackle as well. But he is more of a low-end Fantasy DL since he has never had more than six sacks in a season.
News: The NFL suspended Falcons defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux for one game Tuesday after his arrest last year on marijuana charges. Babineaux will miss the Falcons' Sept. 12 opener at Pittsburgh. "It's behind me now," Babineaux told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "Basically I accepted the deal that the league sent out to me. It's mandated by the league. I respect what they did, and I've put it behind me. I'm moving forward and looking forward to a great season."
Analysis: Babineaux is no better than a low-end Fantasy DL who might help out as a one-week replacement. You can definitely find better on Draft Day.
News: Embattled Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux was smoking marijuana as he and a friend were driving through the northeast Atlanta suburbs, according to a police report. The Gwinnett County police report, released Tuesday, says Babineaux told a police officer he had not smoked marijuana in more than a year, but then he admitted smoking from a marijuana blunt at least once during the drive on a busy interstate highway. Babineaux started Sunday in Atlanta's loss to the New Orleans Saints. According to the collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and its players, the team followed NFL rules in letting him play. League rules allow NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to decide whether Babineaux will enter the league's intervention program and face a four-game suspension because of the arrest. "I don't have any comment and I can't talk to you right now," Babineaux said Tuesday when reached by The Associated Press. Babineaux's attorney did not immediately return a call seeking comment. Falcons spokesman Reggie Roberts said Tuesday the team would have no further comment on the arrest. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league will wait for the case to move through the legal process to decide Babineaux's fate. "We're not going to prematurely judge anything," he said.
Analysis: Babineaux had emerged as a low-end Fantasy DL but might face a suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. He's banged up on top of this new issue, so don't expect big stats from the big man.
News: Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux insists he will be cleared of felony marijuana charges. Babineaux says in a statement he and his family "have faith that you will see I'm not guilty." Babineaux was arrested during a traffic stop Thursday night and charged with possession of 1 1/2 ounces of marijuana. Gwinnett County police spokesman Cpl. David Schiralli has said Babineaux and another man, Aaron Robinson, were driving in Babineaux's 2005 Cadillac Escalade when police pulled them over. Falcons coach Mike Smith says he doesn't expect the arrest to be a distraction for Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints.
Analysis: Babineaux had emerged as a low-end Fantasy DL but might face a suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. He's banged up on top of this new issue, so don't expect big stats from the big man.
News: Falcons DT Jonathan Babineaux has been arrested and charged with marijuana possession. He was arrested during a traffic stop around 10:45 p.m. Thursday when he allegedly had nearly 1 1/2 ounces of marijuana. He is charged with possessing more than an ounce of marijuana. He was released from the Gwinnett County jail Friday morning on $8,300 bond. The team is aware of the incident but is withholding comment.
Analysis: Babineaux had emerged as a low-end Fantasy DL but might face a suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. He's banged up on top of this new issue, so don't expect big stats from the big man.
News: Atlanta DL Jonathan Babineaux finished the Week 12 win over the Bucs with three tackles and a sack. He also had a forced fumble in the game.
Analysis: Babineaux now has 33 tackles on the season and five sacks for the Falcons. Still, his value in IDP leagues in just low-end. He's not worth using in Week 13 against Philadelphia.
News: Atlanta DT Jonathan Babineaux came into the Week 9 game against Washington with 14 tackles and 1.5 sacks on the season. He went off on the Redskins for 10 tackles and 2.5 sacks in Week 9 alone.
Analysis: Babineaux doesn't typically post big stats for the Falcons so we really don't know what to make of his resurgence. You could definitely argue that he's playing his best football right now as he has 3.5 sacks in his last two games. If you need a last minute DL in IDP leagues, go ahead and give him a shot in Week 10 at Carolina.
News: Notable Falcons defenders from Week 6 vs. Chicago include: DB Thomas DeCoud (five solo tackles, two interceptions), LB Mike Peterson (six solo tackles, sack), LB Curtis Lofton (10 total tackles, forced fumble), DB Erik Coleman (nine total tackles), DE John Abraham (four total tackles, half sack) and DT Jonathan Babineaux (three total tackles, half sack, forced fumble).
Analysis: Of these people, Lofton, Peterson, Coleman and Abraham are legitimate Fantasy starters at their positions. Take note of DeCoud as he's been making good use of his playing time and could be on the rise. Babineaux typically doesn't post big stats. The Falcons play at the Cowboys in Week 7.
News: Falcons LB Curtis Lofton (11 tackles, forced fumble), LB Stephen Nicholas (six tackles),and DL Jonathan Babineaux (two tackles, fumble recovery) all helped out in a Week 1 win over the Dolphins.
Analysis: Lofton is a solid Fantasy LB in IDP leagues, and is obviously off to a great start in 2009. The other two guys have very minimal Fantasy value. Atlanta hosts Carolina in Week 2.
News: Falcons DL Jonathan Babineaux, signed to a contract extension earlier this week, celebrated with 1 1/2 sacks Week 13 at San Diego. He also recorded two tackles, including one solo.
Analysis: Babineaux now has 3 1/2 sacks this season. Still, as a defensive tackle, he likely won't get enough to matter in Fantasy. Leave him on waivers in IDP leagues.
News: Falcons defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux received a multi-year contract extension on Tuesday. Babineaux, a second-round pick in 2005, was given a five-year extension. Terms of the deals were not announced. Babineaux has 23 tackles, two sacks and one fumble recovery.
Analysis: As an interior lineman, Babineaux usually doesn't do enough to matter in Fantasy. Leave him on waivers in IDP leagues.
News: Falcons DL Jonathan Babineaux picked up his second sack of the season Week 11 against the Broncos. It was his only tackle.
Analysis: As an interior lineman, Babineaux usually doesn't do enough to matter in Fantasy. Leave him on waivers in IDP leagues.
News: Falcons DB Brent Grimes (11 tackles), DL Jonathan Babineaux (eight tackles), LB Demorrio Williams (eight tackles), LB Keith Brooking (seven tackles) and DB DeAngelo Hall (seven tackles) led the way defensively for Atlanta in their 30-27 overtime loss to the Cardinals in Week 16.
Analysis: Brooking and Hall are decent No. 3 Fantasy options at their position and the only ones in this group worth starting in Week 17 against Seattle if your IDP league goes that deep.
News: Falcons LB Michael Boley (six tackles), DB DeAngelo Hall (six tackles), RB Keith Brooking (four tackles) and DL Jonathan Babineaux (four tackles) and DL Chauncey Davis (sack) helped out in Atlanta's 28-16 loss to the Rams in Week 13.
Analysis: Boley is a high-end No. 2 Fantasy LB and should definitely start in Week 14 vs. New Orleans, while Hall and Brooking are decent backups at their respective positions. Babineaux and Davis have no Fantasy value at this time.
News: The Falcons list of inactives for Week 5 at the Titans includes QB Byron Leftwich, DB Daren Stone, DL Rod Coleman, TE Dwayne Blakley and DL Jonathan Babineaux.
Analysis: These players all either sit low on the depth chart on offense or don't contribute meaningful statistics on defense. None deserves Fantasy consideration even when active.
News: Falcons DL Jonathan Babineaux (knee) is out for Week 5 at Tennessee. It will be the second straight week Babineaux will be sidelined. He has seven tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble in three games.
Analysis: Babineaux is off to a fast start with the Falcons, but hasn't shown this much spark in his previous two seasons in the NFL. It is safe to leave Babineaux on Fantasy waivers at this time. He might develop into a low-end Fantasy option when healthy.
News: The Falcons list of inactives for Week 4 against the Texans includes TE Dwayne Blakley, DB Daren Stone, DL Rod Coleman and DL Jonathan Babineaux.
Analysis: These players are either offensive reserves or defenders who don't contribute meaningful statistics. Keep them reserved in all Fantasy formats.
News: Falcons DL Jonathan Babineaux (knee) will not play Week 4 vs. Houston. Babineaux has seven tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble in the team's first three games.
Analysis: Babineaux is off to a fast start with the Falcons, but hasn't shown this much spark in his previous two seasons in the NFL. It is safe to leave Babineaux on Fantasy waivers at this time. He might develop into a low-end Fantasy option when healthy.
News: Falcons DL Grady Jackson and Jonathan Babineaux combined for six tackles and three sacks, with Babineaux getting two of them.
Analysis: Neither player should be started in Week 3 against Carolina.
News: Former Pro Bowl defensive tackle Rod Coleman had arthroscopic knee surgery Friday and might not return until the Atlanta Falcons' Week 5 game at Tennessee. When the Falcons open the season Sunday at Minnesota, Jonathan Babineaux will start in Coleman's spot alongside nose tackle Grady Jackson and right end John Abraham.
Analysis: Babineaux likely won't make much of a Fantasy impact in place of Coleman and can be ignored in Fantasy IDP leagues at this time.
News: Rod Coleman and Chris Crocker are unlikely to play in the season opener in Week 1 at Minnesota. Jonathan Babineaux, a second-round draft pick from 2005, will start in Coleman's place against the Vikings.
Analysis: Babineaux won't make much of a Fantasy impact in place of Coleman and can be ignored in Fantasy IDP leagues.
News: Rod Coleman underwent surgery Monday to repair a ruptured right quadriceps that could keep the Atlanta Falcons' standout defensive tackle sidelined into September. Falcons spokesman Reggie Roberts confirmed that Coleman was injured in a boating accident recently. Losing Coleman, a Pro Bowl selection in 2005, is a big blow to a defense that will open its first training camp under new coach Bobby Petrino with as many as six unproven starters. Coleman's injury means that Jonathan Babineaux likely will take over at "under" tackle next to right end John Abraham.
Analysis: Neither Coleman nor Babineaux is worth using in standard IDP league play because they don't tally enough statistics. Keep them off rosters for now.
News: Falcons DL John Abraham (thumb) and DB Jason Webster (groin) are listed as questionable, while DL Grady Jackson (knee), DL Jonathan Babineaux (knee) and DB DeAngelo Hall (knee), LB Edgerton Hartwell (hamstring) and DL Rod Coleman (knee) are listed as probable for Week 16 vs. Carolina.
Analysis: Abraham and Hall are the only injured players worth using for Fantasy purposes in Week 16.
News: Falcons DT Jonathan Babineaux and Grady Jackson were removed from the team's injury report on Thursday.
Analysis: Neither player should be used for Fantasy purposes.
News: Falcons DL Grady Jackson (knee), DB Jimmy Williams (ankle) and DL Jonathan Babineaux (foot) are listed as questionable for Week 12 vs. New Orleans.
Analysis: None of these injured players should be used for Fantasy purposes in Week 12.
News: The Falcons DST got three sacks and an interception against Detroit. LB Keith Brooking had nine tackles and a sack. DB Lawyer Milloy had nine tackles and a sack. DB Jason Webster had 10 tackles. DL Jonathan Babineaux had an interception. DL Josh Mallard had one tackle and a sack. And DB DeAngelo Hall had three tackles.
Analysis: Look for the Falcons to have a good game in Week 10 against Cleveland. All their usual IDP players are recommended starts.
News: Notable Falcons defenders in Week 7 include: CB Jason Webster (nine solo tackles, forced fumble), SS Lawyer Milloy (seven tackles), DT Jonathan Babineaux (four tackles, one sack, one forced fumble), LB Ed Hartwell (four tackles), DE Chauncey Davis (three tackles, sack) and CB DeAngelo Hall (three solo tackles). LB Keith Brooking (three tackles) and DE Patrick Kerney (one tackle) also played.
Analysis: Brooking, Kerney, Milloy and Hall are worth using on a regular basis, as should Hartwell once he gets back into the swing of things. The rest can be ignored.
News: According to reports, the Atlanta Falcons have signed Jonathan Babineaux.
Analysis: Babineaux, a second-round selection, has little value in Fantasy Football.
