Blackmon signed by Giants

News: The Giants added DB Will Blackmon to the roster on Wednesday and placed DB Michael Coe (shoulder) on IR.
Analysis: Blackmon played for the Giants in 2010 before ending up on IR. He has been plagued by injuries throughout his career and that has rendered him to being a backup DB. Ignore him in Fantasy until further notice.

Blackmon ends up on IR

News: The Giants placed DB/KR Will Blackmon on injured reserve Thursday with a knee injury.
Analysis: Blackmon was signed in late October and did a decent job of returning kicks and punts before getting hurt. Continue to ignore him in Fantasy play.

Giants bring Blackmon aboard

News: The Giants signed former Packers DB Will Blackmon on Thursday. The Packers let Blackmon go at the end of the preseason because of a knee injury.
Analysis: Blackmon is a decent return man, but that doesn't count for much in most Fantasy leagues. You can leave him on waivers in IDP formats since he likely won't do much on defense.

Blackmon placed on IR

News: The Packers placed CB Will Blackmon on injured reserve with a knee injury.
Analysis: Blackmon wasn't expected to be a fantastic Fantasy option in the first place. Move along.

Blackmon not 100 percent yet

News: Packers S Will Blackmon, coming off surgery to repair a torn ACL, had to leave practice early Thursday. "He’s just coming back off that (knee) surgery, he tried to go and it didn’t hold up," head coach Mike McCarthy said. "We’ll see how he is in the morning." However, Blackmon insisted he's just being cautious. "I'm good. Just have to be smart and take my time with this (so) I don't have any setbacks," he said. "I'm just sore."
Analysis: Blackmon, a converted cornerback, was expected to compete for the starting SS spot while Atari Bigby is on the shelf following ankle surgery. But it appears as if Blackmon isn't ready to go himself, and if he has to sit out he'll likely fall behind in the competition, since he's learning a new position. While he does add some value as a kick returner, coming off an injury like this he should be ignored on Draft Day in IDP Fantasy leagues.

Blackmon done for the season

News: Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy said Tuesday that DB/KR Will Blackmon, who injured his knee on Monday night against the Vikings, will miss the rest of the season.
Analysis: Blackmon is a solid kick returner but has limited Fantasy value as a DB in IDP formats, when healthy. He can officially be cut off all Fantasy rosters with the news he's done for the year.

Blackmon injures left leg on MNF

News: Packers PR/KR Will Blackmon had to be helped off the field with a knee injury in a 30-23 loss to Minnesota on Monday night. Blackmon was injured in the second quarter. He cut to his right and his left knee appeared to buckle as he tried to head up field. Blackmon remained on the turf for several minutes and was taken on a cart to the locker room for examination. Coach Mike McCarthy said it was a sprained knee and Blackmon would be evaluated on Tuesday.
Analysis: Blackmon is a solid kick returner but has limited Fantasy value as a DB in IDP formats. He will attempt to get healthy and use the bye week in Week 5 to do so. The Packers return to play Detroit Week 6.

Blackmon should play in Week 2

News: Green Bay DB Will Blackmon (quadricep) was listed as probable for Week 2's game against the Bengals. Blackmon was able to participate in practice in full the entire week.
Analysis: Blackmon was inactive for Week 1's game but should be good to go for Week 2 as he was able to practice all week. Blackmon is a solid kick returned but has limited Fantasy value as a DB in IDP formats.

Packers list Week 1 inactives

News: The following Packers players are inactive for Week 1's game against the Bears: CB Will Blackmon, CB Brandon Underwood, FB Quinn Johnson, LB Brad Jones and NT B.J. Raji.
Analysis: None of the players listed above were expected to stat in Week 1 for the Packers anyway. Leave them all on waivers in all leagues.

Blackmon's quad has been slow to heal

News: Packers DB Will Blackmon (quadricep) is listed as questionable for Week 1 vs. Green Bay. He went through limited practice reps Friday after missing the previous two days. "One thing I'm able to do is I'm still able to catch the ball, even though I haven't caught it in a while," he said. "I exploded a couple times and I felt pretty good."
Analysis: Blackmon, Green Bay's top punt and kick returner, practiced Friday for the first time since taking a knee to the thigh in the second preseason game against the Bills on Aug. 22. The bruised quadriceps has been slow to heal. Blackmon is pretty much just a Fantasy flier in leagues that reward heavily for return yards when healthy.

Blackmon expects to play in Week 1

News: CB Will Blackmon (quad) laughed at suggestions he's 50/50 to play Sunday, according to a CBSSports.com correspondent at practice Friday. "I took a few (returns) in practice," Blackmon said. "They felt fine. If there is a chance, I feel good."
Analysis: Blackmon is a low-end DB, but he could have value in leagues where return points count. Consider him a safe play in those formats.

News: The Packers DST had three fumble recoveries and an interception Sunday against Houston. They also added one sack. Tramon Williams had the interception and a fumble recovery along with six tackles, Brett Goode had a fumble recovery, Johnny Jolly had a fumble recovery and seven tackles and Desmond Bishop had 12 tackles and a sack. Will Blackmon had four kickoff returns for 72.8 yards and two punt returns for 8 yards.
Analysis: The Packers DST just creates turnovers. Consider them a No. 1 Fantasy option in Week 15 at Jacksonville.

Analysis: The Packers DST continues to create turnovers and scoring chances. Consider the Packers DST a No. 1 option in Week 11 against Chicago.

News: Packers DB Will Blackmon had a 57-yard punt return for a touchdown and scored on a fumble return Sunday against Oakland.

DB Blackmon sits out Thursday

News: Notable inactives for the Week 12 Packers-Lions game include: For the Packers, WR Shaun Bodiford, TE Bubba Franks, DL Justin Harrell, DL Daniel Muir, DL Jonny Jolly, DB Will Blackmon and DB Nick Collins. For the Lions, DL Ikaika Alama-Francis, QB Dan Orlovsky, RB Tatum Bell, DB Dovonte Edwards, DB Greg Blue and DL Shaun Cody are inactive.
Analysis: No real big surprises here. Franks will miss his fifth straight game with a knee injury. Bell hasn't played for the Lions since Week 5. On the defensive side of the ball, Aaron Rouse will start in place of FS Nick Collins for Green Bay. From a Turkey Day perspective, the players out for this game would be like if the person bringing yogurt, tuna and bologna couldn't make it. You're not really missing out on much Fantasy-wise.

Three Packers defenders ruled out

News: Packers DB Nick Collins (knee), DT Johnny Jolly (shoulder) and CB Will Blackmon (knee) are listed as out on the Packers' Tuesday participation report. None of them are expected to play at Detroit on Thanksgiving Day.
Analysis: Only Collins is of minor Fantasy significance, but by and large none of these guys should be on IDP league rosters.

Panthers-Packers updates named

News: For Carolina, WR Steve Smith (shin), DL Damione Lewis (shoulder), DB C.J. Wilson (coach's decision), DL Charles Johnson (coach's decision), LB Tim Shaw (coach's decision) and emergency third QB Matt Moore were all named inactive for their Week 11 game at Green Bay. For the Packers, TE Bubba Franks (knee), DB Will Blackmon (foot), DB Nick Collins (knee), LB Tracy White (ankle), WR Shaun Bodiford (coach's decision), DL Colin Cole (coach's decision), DL Justin Harrell (coach's decision) and DL Daniel Muir (coach's decision) were all named inactive.
Analysis: Smith is the only big news here, but he didn't practice all week and wasn't expected to play.

Vikings-Packers inactives named

News: For the Vikings, WR Sidney Rice (hamstring), DB Antoine Winfield (hamstring), DB Mike Doss (coach's decision), RB Naufahu Tahi (coach's decision), RB Garrett Mills (coach's decision), DL Jayme Mitchell (coach's decision) and third QB Kelly Holcomb (neck) were all named inactive for their Week 10 game at Green Bay. For the Packers, WR Shaun Bodiford (coach's decision), DB Will Blackmon (foot), DB Nick Collins (knee), LB Desmond Bishop (coach's decision), TE Bubba Franks (knee), DL Justin Harrell (ankle) and DL Daniel Muir (coach's decision) were named inactive.
Analysis: Rice and Holcomb were questionable coming into Week 10, so there was always a good chance they would be inactive. Rice was going to be back on the bench with Troy Williamson returning, so his Fantasy value had already been decreased. Franks is expected to miss another couple of weeks.

News: The Packers inactives for Week 9 at Kansas City include TE Bubba Franks, DL Justin Harrell, DB Will Blackmon, LB Desmond Bishop, WR Ruvell Martin, DL Colin Cole and DL Daniel Muir.
Analysis: Keep Franks reserved in all leagues. He was expected to miss this week. None of these other players have any Fantasy value and should not be active.

Blackmon cleared for conditioning work

News: According to PackersNews.com, Packers CB Will Blackmon has been cleared to do conditioning work this week that will put more weight on his broken foot. He is likely still at least several weeks from returning to the field.
Analysis: Blackmon has a history of injuries since entering the NFL and his return this season is still very much up in the air. Ignore him in all formats for now.

RB Jackson inactive for Packers

News: The Packers inactives for Week 6 against the Eagles include DB Will Blackmon, RB Brandon Jackson, LB Desmond Bishop, DL Colin Cole, DL Daniel Muir and DL Corey Williams.
Analysis: Keep Jackson reserved for Week 6 against the Redskins and continue to monitor his status for Week 8 at Denver. The Packers are off in Week 7. All the other players have minimal Fantasy value and should be kept reserved.

Blackmon inactive for Week 5

News: The Green Bay Packers announced that LB Desmond Bishop, CB Will Blackmon (foot), DT Colin Cole (concussion), RB Brandon Jackson (shin), DL Mike Montgomery (knee) and DT Daniel Muir are inactive for Week 5 against Chicago.
Analysis: Blackmon is on injured reserve now and will be out for the remainder of the season. He had minimal Fantasy appeal in IDP leagues when he was healthy.

Blackmon suffers season-ending injury

News: Will Blackmon's second NFL season will end just like his first -- on injured reserve. The Packers' second-year cornerback suffered the fourth significant injury of his 18-month pro career when he broke his right foot in practice. Coach Mike McCarthy revealed the injury following Thursday's practice. Blackmon, who broke the same foot during a May 2006 minicamp, was covering a receiver during the final 11-on-11 team period of Wednesday's practice when they got their feet tangled up. "I feel terrible for Will. He was coming on strong. We all saw what he did as a returner," McCarthy said. "We felt he and Jarrett Bush were right there neck-and-neck as the No. 3 corner. It's a shame. He was contributing on special teams and was really making a move."
Analysis: The injury is the latest in a string of bad luck for Blackmon, who came back from the foot injury after missing the first five games of last season, only to suffer a broken rib in his fourth game on the active roster and winding up on IR. Then, Blackmon won the kickoff and punt return jobs in preseason, only to suffer a broken left thumb during the Aug. 23 preseason game against Jacksonville. The injury required casting and cost him the return job, although Blackmon did play as the No. 4 corner in the dime defense. Now that he is out for the season, he can be cut in all Fantasy formats.

Blackmon sidelined for Week 5

News: Packers DB Will Blackmon (foot) has been ruled out for Week 5 vs. Chicago. He has been active for the first four games, but has just one tackle.
Analysis: Blackmon spent numerous weeks on the injury report or inactive list as a rookie in 2006. He is still plagued by injuries in his sophomore season. He is nothing more than a reserve DB for the Packers until he can show he belongs in the NFL. Ignore him in IDP leagues.
