News: Vikings RB Lorenzo Booker was not much of a factor in Week 10 against the Packers. Booker finished with 12 yards rushing on two carries in the 45-7 contest, with a long of 7 yards. He also caught one pass for 9 yards, but was unable to find the end zone in the defeat.
Analysis: With the score well out of reach, the Vikings began clearing their bench in the fourth quarter. Still, Booker only got three total touches and was unable to really rack up any real yardage. As long as Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhart are both healthy, Booker will likely have a hard time finding consistent touches. Leave him on the waiver wire heading into Week 11.
News: Minnesota RB Lorenzo Booker got into the action on Sunday in a Week 5 win over Arizona. Booker rushed one time for 25 yards in the game and added two catches for 25 more yards. Booker was targeted just twice in the passing game.
Analysis: Booker got his first three touches of the season in the Week 5 win over the Cardinals. All of Booker's touches went for first downs as he rushed for 25 yards and caught two passes for 25 more. Being his first few touches on the season, we doubt Booker is going to all of a sudden become Fantasy viable heading into Week 6 at Chicago. Keep Booker on waivers in most Fantasy formats.
News: The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that Vikings RB Lorenzo Booker, who worked as the No. 2 RB to Adrian Peterson with Toby Gerhart sidelined Saturday against the Cowboys, left the game with a back injury. On Sunday, an MRI revealed that one of his disk's is out of place. However, Booker is expected to get the necessary treatment and should be ready for the season opener on Sept. 11.
Analysis: Booker collapsed while running a passing route, so the team feared a more significant issue. He looked good in space before the injury en route to racking up 33 yards (15 rushing) on five touches (three carries). Fantasy owners should keep an eye on the issue going forward, though the FSU product is just a situational back. Booker is likely a player who should be ignored on Draft Day, though he may have a small amount of deep value in PPR formats.
News: Vikings RB Lorenzo Booker was not much of a factor in Week 15 against the Bears. Booker had just two receptions for 14 yards in the 40-14 loss and did not get receive a carry. However, he did return eight kickoffs for a combined 157 yards.
Analysis: Booker showed some flashes of his speed on a few kickoff returns, but unfortunately didn't see too many plays on offense. It appears he role with the Vikings will be mostly on special teams and he can be ignored heading into Fantasy Week 16.
News: Vikings RB Lorenzo Booker could be in line to see some snaps in Week 15 against the Bears as Adrian Peterson has been ruled inactive. Toby Gerhart will get the start in place of Peterson with Booker moving up to No. 2 on the depth chart.
Analysis: There is no sure way of knowing how many snaps Booker will see on Monday night, however, Fantasy owners that were expecting to start Peterson and are desperate to find a replacement, may want to give Booker a shot. He was signed last week from the UFL and has seen stints with the Dolphins and Eagles in the NFL. Booker hasn't racked up many rushing yards over his brief career, but did have 28 receptions for 237 yards in 2007 with the Dolphins.
News: Interim coach Leslie Frazier said the team has signed RB Lorenzo Booker from the Hartford Colonials of the UFL. Frazier wouldn't say what the corresponding move to the 53-man roster would be. Booker had 410 rush yards in seven games with the Colonials and has seen stints with the Dolphins and Eagles in the NFL. Frazier added that he hopes Booker can contribute on third downs.
Analysis: Once upon a time we liked Booker's ability to be a good third-down back. Apparently someone within the Vikings organization thinks so too. We expect to see him work more on special teams than third downs for now, but that can change. Don't sweat him in Fantasy.
News: Eagles RB Lorenzo Booker was released by the Eagles on Saturday.
Analysis: Booker might end up with another squad, but will have no Fantasy value heading into the season.
News: According to the team's official web site, Eagles RB Lorenzo Booker has a chance to shine in training camp. Booker is going to get a lot of reps as Brian Westbrook rehabs due to ankle surgery. Until Westbrook is on the field, Booker and rookie LeSean McCoy will get the lion's share of touches. The report says Booker "sure looked good in the spring and part of the summer last year. And then he just, poof, disappeared. Didn't play particularly well in the preseason games. Looked a bit slower. Went down too easily. Just did not inspire confidence in the coaching staff." But now Booker, another year into the system, has an opportunity to prove himself and win some playing time.
Analysis: Booker has to be physical and durable and show the skills he showed last year when the Eagles got him the football a bunch in the spring practices. He will get a chance to compete with McCoy to be the No. 2 RB behind Westbrook, but we see Booker as the No. 3 option. If Westbrook is out to start the season then Booker is worth a late-round pick. But if Westbrook is fine, then leave Booker on the waiver wire and see what kind of playing time he gets.
News: The Eagles have confirmed that RB Brian Westbrook will have surgery on Friday to remove bone spurs from his right ankle. As a result, Westbrook is expected to miss the start of training camp and could be a question mark heading into the regular season. Rookie RB LeSean McCoy has already been sharing first-team reps with third-year rusher Lorenzo Booker; both should see extensive playing time in the preseason.
Analysis: The roller coaster ride continues with Booker, who was once a sleeper in Fantasy then had a dud year with the Eagles in 2008. If he can progress on and off the field with the team, then he'll have the chance to carve out a role with the offense. But as a decent third-down back, he's not expected to ratchet up stats for your Fantasy team. He remains a low-end flier worth a late-round pick in the deepest of leagues.
News: The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Lorenzo Booker said he thinks he's the No. 2 RB on the Eagles. But Booker has to beat out rookie LeSean McCoy to backup Brian Westbrook. Coach Andy Reid said in a radio interview earlier in May that McCoy was the backup to Brian Westbrook, and the depth chart on the Eagles' team site Tuesday listed McCoy ahead of Booker. Booker said he's ready for the challenge. "For me to start sweating, you've got to take my job," Booker said. "Come take my job. If you can take it, then take it. We'll see. That's what the whole point of camp and all that is." Booker feels he has a lot to prove. "I think last year, for me, was more of a redshirt year," said Booker, who had 20 carries for 53 yards last season. "I don't think coming in coach Reid's intentions were to just throw me out there. He didn't have to. Again, you have Brian and you have Correll (Buckhalter)." McCoy, for his part, believes the job is already his. "They're trying to make me fit in to this offense because it's a tough offense. It's not easy," he said. "But they're drilling me into an every-down running back. It helps that I have one of the best running backs (Westbrook) in the NFL ahead of me."
Analysis: Westbrook is coming off knee surgery and will be eased into a full return. He also turns 30 before the season opener, so there should be plenty of opportunity for McCoy or Booker to get carries. We expect McCoy to be the No. 2 option, but Booker could also get some carries. Still, the best hancuff option for Westbrook is McCoy, and he's worth a late-round pick in seasonal leagues. McCoy will obviously have more value in rookie leagues and keeper formats. Booker is also worth a pick in deeper formats, especially in leagues where receptions count.
News: The Philadelphia Eagles have announced the inactives for their Week 17 game vs. Dallas. Not in uniform will be: QB A.J. Feeley, RB Lorenzo Booker, LB Joe Mays, DE Bryan Smith, TE L.J. Smith and DE Victor Abiamiri.
Analysis: Smith has some minimal Fantasy value when healthy, but you shouldn't be worried about any of these other guys.
News: The Eagles have listed the following players as inactive for Week 16 at Washington: QB A.J. Feeley (3rd QB), RB Lorenzo Booker, LB Joe Mays, LB Bryan Smith and WR Hank Baskett.
Analysis: With a sprained MCL, Baskett is in danger of being lost for the rest of the regular season. The good news is that he's not a consistent stat producer in the first place. Neither are the rest of the players mentioned above. Keep them off Fantasy rosters.
News: The Eagles listed QB A.J. Feeley, RB Lorenzo Booker, LB Joe Mays, DL Bryan Smith and TE Matt Schobel among their inactives for Week 15 against the Browns.
Analysis: These players don't do enough statistically to matter in Fantasy even when active. Leave them on waivers.
News: Eagles RB Lorenzo Booker had one catch for one yard Week 14 against the Giants.
Analysis: Until Corell Buckhalter returns, Booker is the handcuff for Westbrook who has played great the past two weeks. Pick Booker up only if you already have Westbrook.
News: Eagles RB Lorenzo Booker, getting his first touchdowns since Week 9 with Correll Buckhalter sidelined by a knee injury, ran four times for 21 yards Week 13 against the Cardinals.
Analysis: Booker becomes the new handcuff option for starter Brian Westbrook until Buckhalter returns. Considering Westbrook scored four touchdowns in this same game, though, don't expect Booker to get many opportunities Week 14 at the Giants.
News: The Eagles have listed RB Correll Buckhalter as doubtful for Week 13 vs. Arizona with a knee injury. He's not expected to play as the backup running back behind Brian Westbrook. Lorenzo Booker will have those duties on Thursday. Buckhalter left Week 12 at Baltimore with a sprained ligament in his knee.
Analysis: Buckhalter is only worth owning as an insurance policy for Westbrook in Fantasy, though this week Booker is the better option. Owners should hang on to Buckhalter until a definitive word is given on his long-term status, which could come down sooner than later. If 'Buck' is ruled out for the season, then Booker would be the better insurance policy for Westbrook.
News: Eagles RB Correll Buckhalter, who left Week 12 at Baltimore with a sprained ligament in his knee, couldn't practice Tuesday as the team prepares for Week 13 against the Cardinals. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, he has already ruled himself out for Thursday's game, making Lorenzo Booker the de facto backup for Brian Westbrook.
Analysis: Buckhalter had become a viable Fantasy contributor, getting plenty of touches as the backup for the injury-prone Westbrook. If he indeed can't play, Booker would assume his role, making him a worthy add for all Westbrook owners. You probably shouldn't start him in Week 13, though, considering Westbrook has said he'll play.
News: The Eagles listed QB A.J. Feeley, RB Lorenzo Booker, RB Kyle Eckel, LB Joe Mays, LB Bryan Smith and TE Matt Schobel among their inactives for Week 12 at Baltimore.
Analysis: None of these players ever does enough statistically to matter in Fantasy. Leave them all on waivers.
News: The following players are listed as inactive for Week 11 at Cincinnati for the Eagles: QB A.J. Feeley (3rd QB), RB Lorenzo Booker, RB Kyle Eckel, LB Joe Mays, LB Bryan Smith and TE Matt Schobel.
Analysis: Keep all of these players reserved for Week 11. When active they have minimal Fantasy value.
News: The Eagles inactives for Week 10 against the Giants include QB A.J. Feely (3rd QB), RB Lorenzo Booker, FB Kyle Eckel, LB Joe Mays, DE Bryan Smith and TE Matt Schobel.
Analysis: Keep all of these players reserved for Week 10. When active they have minimal Fantasy value.
News: Eagles RB Lorenzo Booker rushed the ball three times for zero yards during a Week 9 win against the Seahawks. Booker now has six carries for 12 yards in his last five games.
Analysis: Booker is third on the Eagles' depth chart at running back, and for him to move up, he would need injuries to occur to both Brian Westbrook and Correll Buckhalter. Booker has a long ways to go before becoming a Fantasy viable player and can be left off most Fantasy rosters. The Eagles play the Giants Week 10.
News: Eagles RB Lorenzo Booker, WR Jason Avant, WR Greg Lewis and QB Kevin Kolb didn't record offensive statistics Week 8 at Seattle.
Analysis: None of these players ever does enough offensively to matter in Fantasy, with the exception of maybe Lewis. For the most part, though, he and all the others should remain on waivers.
News: Eagles RB Lorenzo Booker rushed once for five yards in Week 6's win over the 49ers.
Analysis: Booker doesn't have a prime spot on the Eagles' depth chart, making him not worth your time in Fantasy. The Eagles have a bye in Week 7.
News: The official team web site reports that Eagles RB Brian Westbrook will be held out of the team's Week 6 game at San Francisco with a pair of broken ribs. Correll Buckhalter is expected to start in his place. "Brian wants to go," head coach Andy Reid said. "But I have to do what I think is best for him and the football team. I think the bye week will help him. I think it will help take some of the sting out."
Analysis: This means Westbrook will be unavailable to Fantasy owners in Weeks 6 and 7 as the Eagles are on bye next week. Keep him benched, obviously. Buckhalter has a decent matchup against the 49ers and is worth rolling with as a No. 3 RB, with Lorenzo Booker and Tony Hunt last-ditch replacements for Westbrook if Buckhalter can't be used.
News: Eagles RB Lorenzo Booker and TE Brent Celek played in Week 5's loss to Washington but did not record any stats.
Analysis: Booker doesn't have a prime spot on the Eagles' depth chart, making him not worth your time in Fantasy. The same goes for Celek. Neither should be considered in Week 6 as the Eagles head to San Francisco.
News: Eagles RB Lorenzo Booker had only three total touches Week 4 at Chicago. He ran the ball twice for seven yards but lost three yards on a reception.
Analysis: You might have thought Booker would play a bigger role on offense with starting RB Brian Westbrook sidelined by an ankle injury, but he really didn't. Clearly, he doesn't have a prime spot on the Eagles' depth chart, making him not worth your time in Fantasy. The Eagles host the Redskins in Week 5.
News: The Delaware County Times was first to report that Eagles head coach Andy Reid said Monday that RB Brian Westbrook had a sprained right ankle. Reid hopes to have Westbrook available for Week 4 at Chicago. "He's limping around today without the crutches. We'll see how he does. It'll be a day-to-day situation," Reid said. "We'll try to get him ready for Sunday."
Analysis: We liked Booker landing in Philadelphia this offseason because he's a versatile runner much like Westbrook. However, Correll Buckhalter seems to be the better insurance policy option for those owners who have a top pick invested in Westbrook. That said, Booker might only be worth owning in deeper PPR leagues at this point. We will keep you informed about the Philladelphia running back situation leading up to Week 4.
News: Eagles RB Lorenzo Booker had five carries for 11 yards during a Week 3 win against the Steelers. He also had two catches for five yards.
Analysis: Booker came into the game with five carries, but saw a few extra snaps after Brian Westbrook limped to the locker room in the second quarter with an ankle injury. If Westbrook can't play Week 4 against the Bears, Booker will likely backup Correll Buckhalter. Booker still has little Fantasy value until further notice.
News: Eagles RB Lorenzo Booker had a pair of catches for eight yards in a Week 2 loss to the Cowboys. He did not receive any carries, however.
Analysis: The Eagles were talking about using Booker more in the offense Week 2 after he had five touches Week 1, but that clearly wasn't the case. Booker remains a backup running back to Brian Westbrook, and unless something happens to Westbrook, that won't change. Consider him only as a handcuff for Westbrook in Fantasy and don't worry about activating Westbrook Week 3 against the Steelers.
News:The Sports Xchange reports that Lorenzo Booker figures to be a bigger part of the offense in Week 2 against the Cowboys than he was in Week 1 against the Rams. Booker was on the field for just four plays in the first three quarters.
Analysis: Even if he is a bigger part of the offense, that doesn't mean he'll be doing much. Booker was the backup who saw the most carries behind starter Brian Westbrook, but even with a 38-3 lead did not see enough touches to be considered useful in Fantasy. Unless something happens to Westbrook, that won't change. Consider him only as a handcuff for Westbrook in Fantasy and don't worry about activating him anytime soon.
News: Eagles RB Lorenzo Booker rushed five times for nine yards in Week 1 against St. Louis. Correll Buckhalter rushed two times for five yards and Tony Hunt rushed twice for three yards.
Analysis: Booker was the backup who saw the most carries behind starter Brian Westbrook, but even with a 38-3 lead did not see enough touches to be considered useful in Fantasy. Unless something happens to Westbrook, that won't change. Consider him only as a handcuff for Westbrook in Fantasy and don't worry about activating him anytime soon.
News: The Eagles listed their Week 1 inactives and none of the following players were included: Lorenzo Booker (hip), Chris Clemons (calf), Sean Considine (hand) and DB Brian Dawkins (ankle).
Analysis: Booker and Dawkins are the most relevant in Fantasy play. While Booker is more of an insurance policy for starter Brian Westbrook, Dawkins is capable of racking up tackles and pass defense stats, which makes him worth using as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy DB. Start him if you're in a deep league. Booker, on the other hand, probably won't total more than 10 touches and should remain benched. There's no use for Clemons or Considine in Fantasy play at this point.
News: Eagles RB Lorenzo Booker (hip), DE Chris Clemons (calf), SS Sean Considine (hand) and FS Brian Dawkins (ankle) are all listed as probable for Week 1 vs. St. Louis. All four should see the field.
News: Eagles RB Lorenzo Booker (hip) went through a full practice Wednesday and appears fine for Week 1 against St. Louis.
Analysis: Booker is a solid handcuff option to starter Brian Westbrook and can be useful in deep leagues where receptions count. Don't start Booker in Week 1 against the Rams, but keep an eye on his progress during the season to see if he's worth adding off the waiver wire at some point.
News: New Eagles RB Lorenzo Booker is thrilled with the offense he's found himself in. As Brian Westbrook's primary backup, Booker is a perfect fit for what the team wants to do with the ball. "This is a dream come true for me," said Booker, "because (the offense) is spread out. The wide-open play suits my style, which is living in space. I really feel like a kid in a candy store."
Analysis: Booker is an exceptional pass-catcher out of the backfield and is about half-a-step slower than Westbrook. Because we know Westbrook is no lock to play in 16 games, Booker is in play not only as an insurance policy for Westbrook, but also as a middle-end reserve well worth a late-round pick in all drafts this summer.
News: The Dolphins traded RB Lorenzo Booker to Philadelphia for a fourth-round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. Booker had 28 catches for 237 yards in the final five games of the season and also added 28 carries for 125 yards. His stats would have been better if he played in the majority of the season, and he was held out for coach's decision, not because of injury.
Analysis: Booker is a clone of Brian Westbrook -- a small speedy back with excellent hands. While he won't play very often because Westbrook plays a huge role in the Eagles' offense, he's still worth drafting late as an insurance policy for those owners who take Westbrook with a top-five pick in drafts this summer. If Westbrook were to miss significant playing time, Booker would be a must-own in Fantasy play, moreso than Correll Buckhalter.
News: The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that new Dolphins coach Tony Sparano wants to have Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams share carries in 2008. But he also mentioned that he wants to find a role for reserve RB Lorenzo Booker. "Lorenzo is an interesting player, obviously. He's a guy that when you watch, he jumps off the film a little bit," Sparano said. "He's interesting in that he's a guy that you've got to get touches for. You've got to find a way to get Lorenzo the ball a little bit that way. I think there's a role."
Analysis: Booker finally got a chance to play regular minutes late in his rookie year in 2007 and looked good. He had 28 catches for 237 yards in the final five games of the season and also added 28 carries for 125 yards. His stats would have been better if he played in the majority of the season, and he was held out for coach's decision, not because of injury. Booker has proven he can be a reliable third-down back. Don't plan on drafting Booker in the majority of Fantasy leagues in 2008 as anything more than a low-end reserve, but he could have value at some point in the season if he's given the right role in the offense.
News: Miami RB Lorenzo Booker finally got a chance to play regular minutes late in his rookie year in 2007 and looked good. He had 28 catches for 237 yards in the final five games of the season and also added 28 carries for 125 yards. His stats would have been better if he played in the majority of the season, and he was held out for coach's decision, not because of injury.
Analysis: Booker will be part of a crowded backfield in 2008. The Dolphins will have Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams back and could have Jesse Chatman and Samkon Gado, both free agents, back as well. Still, Booker has proven he can be a reliable third-down back. Don't plan on drafting Booker in the majority of Fantasy leagues in 2008, but he could have value at some point in the season if he's given the right role in the offense.
News: Dolphins RB Lorenzo Booker had seven rushes for 33 yards and seven receptions for 54 yards as Miami completed the worst season in franchise history with a 38-25 loss to the Bengals on Sunday.
Analysis: Booker has 28 receptions in five games this season and has shown off some of the excellent elusiveness that made Miami select him in the third round back in April. Miami fans and Fantasy players will be wondering why coach Cam Cameron didn't play him earlier this season, but then Cameron has made a lot of questionable moves in Miami. Booker will try to get more third-down carries next season from Week 1 onwards.
News: Dolphins rookie RB Lorenzo Booker ran eight times for 56 yards and caught three passes for 26 yards in Miami's 28-7 loss to the Patriots in Week 16.
Analysis: Booker has been very productive in the receiving game since being inserted into the Miami offense back in Week 13, but this was the first real nice rushing effort of his short career. Consider picking him up in keeper leagues as he might steal some third-down carries from Ronnie Brown next season, but don't start him in Week 17 against the Bengals.
News: Dolphins rookie RB Lorenzo Booker was held to only 17 yards rushing on eight carries in Miami's 22-16 overtime win over the Ravens in Week 15, but caught six passes for 60 yards. Booker now has six catches in each of his last three games for a total of 157 yards.
Analysis: Booker is showing just why the Fins picked him in the third round of this year's draft, as he has shown off some great speed and elusiveness in three games this season. He is a little fragile and susceptible to injuries with his small frame, but he could be useful as a nice third-down back in Miami. However, do not start him in Week 16 against the Patriots.
News: Dolphins rookie RB Lorenzo Booker ran for 13 yards and caught six passes for 34 yards in Miami's 38-17 loss to Buffalo in Week 14.
Analysis: Booker has caught six passes in each of his first two NFL games and has showed flashes of his superb speed and elusiveness when he has got the ball in the open field. At the moment he's only worth owning in keeper leagues as he doesn't get enough touches in the Miami offense. Leave him alone in Week 15 against the Ravens.
News: Dolphins RB Jesse Chatman (ankle) is listed as questionable for Week 14 at Buffalo. He took limited practice reps Friday after sitting out the previous two days. If Chatman is unable to play, Dolphins head coach Cam Cameron said he would use a running back by committee with Samkon Gado, rookie Lorenzo Booker and Patrick Cobbs, according to NFL.com.
Analysis: The three running backs have 34 carries for 99 yards and two touchdowns between them. Gado is the most experienced and could be leaned on the most, but since the Dolphins don't have a set plan in place, it is best to use other Fantasy RBs Week 14.
News: The Miami Herald reports that Dolphins RB Jesse Chatman was walking gingerly after the team's loss to the Jets in Week 13 with a wrapped right ankle. He ended up sitting late in the game, giving playing time to rookie RB Lorenzo Booker. Coach Cam Cameron says that the team is still evaluating Jesse Chatman's injury and will know more about him later in the week. If he's able to play, Chatman will face a Bills defense he erupted for 124 rush yards and 25 receiving yards earlier this season. If not, Lorenzo Booker would see his reps. The Bills rank 22nd against the run and has allowed five rushing touchdowns in their last three games.
Analysis: Chatman would be a good No. 3 Fantasy RB option if he's playing on a sore ankle, which is expected at this point. Of course, there's the chance he doesn't play, meaning that Lorenzo Booker would see playing time in his place, and he'd be a decent low-end No. 3 option in reception-based leagues. We'll stay on top of the news in the Dolphins' offensive backfield for you this week, so check in with us often.
News: Dolphins rookie RB Lorenzo Booker ran one time for six yards but led Miami in receiving with six fourth-quarter catches for 63 yards in a 40-13 loss to the Jets in Week 13.
Analysis: Booker showed off the speed and agility on Sunday that made him a third-round pick by the Dolphins earlier this year, but all of his yardage came in garbage time, and likely against Jets backups. Booker only has minimal value in keeper leagues and should not be in any Fantasy lineup for Week 14's trip to Buffalo.
News: Dolphins FB Reagan Mauia, RB Lorenzo Booker, RB Patrick Cobbs, TE Aaron Halterman, WR Derek Hagan and WR Greg Camarillo all dressed in Week 11's 17-7 loss to the Eagles but failed to record an offensive stat.
Analysis: Booker has some minimal value in deeper keeper leagues, while none of these other players are any use at this team. Miami play at Pittsburgh in Week 12.
News: Dolphins backup QB John Beck, RB Lorenzo Booker, TE Aaron Halterman and WR Greg Camarillo all dressed for Miami's 13-10 loss to the Bills in Week 10, but didn't record an offensive stat.
Analysis: Beck and Booker have some minimal Fantasy value in keeper leagues, although Beck could be starting soon in Miami. Halterman and Camarillo have zero Fantasy value at this time and should not be considered in Week 11 against the Eagles.
News: Dolphins backups John Beck, RB Lorenzo Booker, WR Kerry Reed and WR Greg Camarillo did not record an offensive stat in Week 8 vs. the Giants, in a game played in London's Wembley Stadium.
Analysis: Beck and Booker both have value in keeper formats and in deeper seasonal leagues -- considering the Dolphins are now 0-8 and will begin developing their younger players. For now, however, all of these players should be reserved until further notice.
News: Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown will need surgery to repair a torn ACL, coach Cam Cameron said Monday. He twisted his right knee in the third quarter of the Dolphins' 49-28 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday and will miss the rest of the season. That pushes Jesse Chatman into the starting lineup, with second-year RB Patrick Cobbs and rookie Lorenzo Booker backing him up. "You don't replace a Ronnie Brown," Cameron said. "But you say, 'These are the guys we have. How do we maximize the guys we have? Who are our best 11?"'
Analysis: Neither Cobbs nor Booker are going to start for Fantasy owners anytime soon. Cobbs had a garbage-time TD in Week 7 against the Patriots and had a nice preseason (105 yards on 27 carries with a touchdown). Booker -- a third-round pick out of Florida State -- was a guy we liked a lot coming out of college but he has yet to play at all during the season. Both should remain on the waiver wire in all but the deepest of seasonal Fantasy Football leagues.
News: For the Dolphins, RB Lorenzo Booker, DL Anthony Bryant, DL Vonnie Holliday, DL Jesse Mahelona, DL Rob Ninkovich, DL Sam Rayburn, DL Abraham Wright and DB Travares Tillman are inactive for Week 7. For the Patriots, LB Eric Alexander, DL Kareem Brown, third QB Matt Gutierrez, DB Mel Mitchell, RB Sammy Morris, TE Benjamin Watson and DL Mike Wright.
Analysis: Booker is inactive for a seventh straight week, despite working out with the wide receivers in practice this week. Morris and Watson are out as expected for the Patriots. None of these other players have any Fantasy value.
News: The Miami Herald reports that Dolphins rookie RB Lorenzo Booker has been practicing at receiver this week and coach Cam Cameron has hinted that he'll be used as a WR vs. New England in Week 7. "My routes are pretty good and my hands are good," Booker told the paper.
Analysis: One of the things we liked about Booker coming out of Florida State was his hands, so it's no surprise that Cameron would consider using Booker as a receiver, especially in the wake of the Chris Chambers trade. He's worth a reserve spot in dynasty/keeper leagues and is also worth a flier to fill a bench spot in the deepest of seasonal leagues.
News: For the Dolphins, QB Trent Green, RB Lorenzo Booker, SS Travares Tillman, LB Abraham Wright, WR Greg Camarillo, DT Vonnie Holliday, DE Rob Ninkovich and DT Sam Rayburn are all inactive, while for the Browns, DB Gary Baxter, RB Jamal Lewis, WR Travis Wilson, TE Darnell Dinkins, DT Louis Leonard and QB Ken Dorsey are also inactive.
Analysis: No surprises here, with Green, Holliday and Lewis -- the only players with any Fantasy value in this list -- already ruled out earlier in the week. Bench them all for Week 6.
News: Miami third QB John Beck, RB Lorenzo Booker, DB Travares Tillman (knee), DB Donovin Darius (calf), LB Channing Crowder (ankle), LB Abraham Wright, DT Vonnie Holliday (ankle) and DE Rob Ninkovich were all named inactive for the Dolphins' Week 5 game at Houston.
Analysis: Crowder is the only one in this list with any Fantasy value in most leagues. Booker did have value to start the season in deeper keeper leagues, but since he's been inactive for five straight games now to start his career, his future looks pretty bleak.
News: Dolphins LB Zach Thomas is out in Week 4 against Oakland. He missed Week 3 with a concussion and will be inactive again. Also inactive for the Dolphins are RB Lorenzo Booker, DB Travares Tillman, DB Courtney Bryan, LB Abraham Wright, DL Steve Fifita, DL Rob Ninkovich and QB John Beck (3rd QB).
Analysis: Keep Thomas reserved in all leagues. The rest of these players have minimal Fantasy value.
News: Dolphins' third-round draft pick RB Lorenzo Booker has been inactive for the first three games of this season, but teammate Channing Crowder says he has faith Booker will impress when he finally sees the field. "He's still out there breaking our legs (in practice), making us look bad. ... He's going to be amazing once he gets out there and starts embarrassing people," Crowder told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
Analysis: Booker was owned in 11 percent of leagues to start the season, but has since seen his stock drop to being only owned in five percent after his inactive streak to start the year. The only way he's going to see any action in 2007 is if Ronnie Brown, Antonio Chatman or returner Ted Ginn, Jr. go down injured, so leave him on the wire for now.
News: As expected, LB Zach Thomas was listed among the Dolphins' inactive for their Week 3 game at the New York Jets. Also inactive: QB John Beck, RB Lorenzo Booker, S Donovin Darius, S Courtney Bryan, LB Abraham Wright, DT Steve Fifita and DT Rodrique Wright.
Analysis: Thomas is a huge loss for the Dolphins. Channing Crowder will move to MLB to take Thomas' spot, while Derrick Pope will start at OLB. Booker is inactive for a third straight week, while none of the others listed have any Fantasy value.
News: The Dolphins inactives for Week 2 against Dallas are: RB Lorenzo Booker, QB John Beck, DB Andre Goodman, DB Lamont Thompson, DB Courtney Bryan, LB Abraham Wright, DL Rodrique Wright and DL Paul Soliai.
Analysis: Keep all of these players reserved for Week 2. They have no Fantasy value since they are listed as inactive.
News: Dolphins rookie RB Lorenzo Booker was among the team's inactives for Week 1 at Washington. Patrick Cobbs is now officially the third-string tailback in Miami for now.
Analysis: As a fourth-string RB, Booker is not worth much Fantasy consideration at this point, except possibly in rookie or deeper keeper leagues.
News: According to numerous radio reports Thursday, Dolphins rookie RB Lorenzo Booker was working with the scout team at practice. He is already behind Ronnie Brown and Jesse Chatman on the depth chart and now might be behind Patrick Cobbs.
Analysis: Booker should still be drafted in rookie leagues as a middle- to late-round selection. In seasonal drafts you might want to let him fall to the waiver wire and see if he's worth adding at some point during the season because right now he's not going to help your Fantasy team much.
News: Dolphins rookie RB Lorenzo Booker missed a few practices this week to witness the birth of his first child, Kayin Elija, and then was held out of the Chiefs game, according to The Sports Xchange. Booker's mother, Sharon Hill, said the plan was for her son's girlfriend to have labor induced. "That's how I know he's my child, because he's procrastinating," Booker said late last week regarding his son's late arrival.
Analysis: Booker has been passed on the depth chart by Jesse Chatman as the primary backup to Ronnie Brown. He is worth taking in the middle rounds of rookie drafts but not worth selecting in seasonal leagues.
News: According to the Miami Herald, Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown is listed as the starter, with Jesse Chatman listed as his backup and Lorenzo Booker listed as the third-team RB.
Analysis: This is a surprise to many owners who thought Booker was going to be No. 2 behind Brown, but Chatman has been a standout in training camp. Continue to monitor what happens before determining who should be drafted as insurance for Brown. Booker still has more upside and is worth taking in middle rounds of rookie drafts.
News: Shortly after Lorenzo Booker learned he was drafted by the Miami Dolphins, the Florida State RB became excited about learning nuances of the NFL game from Ricky Williams. Instead, he'll essentially be replacing Williams. Not only does Booker have the same locker that Williams occupied in the Dolphins' training complex, he's also likely be Ronnie Brown's backup in Miami's backfield and fill the role many expected Williams to have before his suspension for violating the league's drug policy was extended until at least September. And Williams' loss - all indications are that the Dolphins will not welcome back the former NFL rushing champion when, or if, he is reinstated by the league - appears to be Booker's gain.
Analysis: The 5-foot-10, 191-pound Booker generated 3,176 yards of offense in his four seasons at Florida State, averaging nearly 4.8 yards per carry and 8.1 yards per reception - amid some cries that he wasn't used enough by the Seminoles. Booker has the potential to be a low-end Fantasy No. 3 RB and someone who should be drafted as insurance for Brown.
News: The Miami Dolphins signed RB Lorenzo Booker to a four-year contract Thursday. Booker, a former Florida State star, was the Dolphins' third-round choice. With 2002 NFL rushing champion Ricky Williams unlikely to rejoin Miami, Booker is expected to back up starting running back Ronnie Brown this year.
Analysis: Booker should be viewed as a low-end No. 3 Fantasy RB this year and someone with definite potential in dynasty leagues. He will be given plenty of opportunities to touch the ball for the Dolphins as Brown's backup.
News: ESPN reports that Dolphins RB Ricky Williams failed a drug test in April and will not be let back into the league until September, when he will be allowed to re-apply for reinstatement. He tested positive for marijuana. Williams had tried to get back in the NFL within the past three weeks. Also, reports have circulated that Williams' locker in Miami was cleaned out and given to rookie RB Lorenzo Booker.
Analysis: Williams' future in Miami doesn't look good at all. If he does get reinstated, there's no way he'll be in the proper condition to come right into the fold in September and help the Dolphins' running game. If he doesn't get reinstated, he'll be doing yoga in California. It appears that Lorenzo Booker will be the Dolphins' third-down back, which should really be of value to the club as he is one of our favorite rookies this season. Williams is now at best a late-round flier in all Fantasy drafts while Booker moves into a middle- to late-round slot in seasonal leagues (and an early-round pick in dynasty rookie drafts).
News: The Dolphins picked FSU RB Lorenzo Booker with their third-round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. Booker is a personal favorite of ours as he's a versatile back with plenty of speed and just enough bulk to move inside, albeit not on a regular basis. He should be a solid third-down back with potential to be a Tiki Barber-esque starter if he can handle the workload.
Analysis: Booker's Fantasy status hinges on if Ricky Williams becomes reinstated. If Williams returns, he'd be more likely to play ahead of Booker. If not, then Booker could be Miami's third-down back as soon as Week 1. Consider Booker a late-round flier in seasonal play and a middle-to late-round pick in keeper formats.
