News: Kansas City WR Steve Breaston has 776 receiving yards and two touchdowns this season, his first with the Chiefs. He needs one more score to tie and two touchdowns to set a new career high. He'll attempt this in Week 17 against the Broncos, a team he had four catches for 33 yards in the last meeting with them. Denver is allowing 253.8 receiving yards per game and have given up 24 receiving scores.
Analysis: Breaston and company are still trying to get on the same page as the Chiefs haven't had Kyle Orton under center for long. Opposing receivers are averaging 21.33 Fantasy points per contest against the Broncos this year. Still, Breaston remains more of a No. 4 WR or flex option for Week 17.
News: Chiefs WR Steve Breaston had four catches for 41 yards in Week 16 against Oakland on Saturday. He had eight targets in the game.
Analysis: Breaston has minimal Fantasy value in the majority of leagues. Ignore him in all formats in Week 17 at Denver even with the heavy amount of targets.
News: Chiefs WR Steve Breaston heads into Week 16 against the Raiders looking to top 50 yards receiving for the first time since Week 11 after four straight mediocre efforts. Breaston could reach that goal as he caught five passes for 54 yards Week 7 at Oakland. Plus, the Raiders are allowing the fourth most Fantasy points per game to opposing wide receivers on the year. Just last week, Detroit's Calvin Johnson caught nine passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns against the Raiders. If that wasn't enough, Nate Burleson recorded seven grabs for 81 yards and a TD and even Titus Young caught a touchdown pass.
Analysis: Breaston certainly has a solid matchup ahead of him in Week 16. That said, Breaston has just two touchdowns all year and they came in the same Week 5 game at Indianapolis. Breaston has been horribly inconsistent this season and is really just a low-end Fantasy option heading into Week 16 against Oakland with Kyle Orton throwing the passes for the Chiefs.
News: Kansas City WR Steve Breaston had a solid all-around game on Sunday of Week 15 against the Packers. Breaston helped the Chiefs become the first team to beat the Packers this season as he caught four passes to tie for the team lead. His four catches went for 50 yards and he was targeted a team-high six times. Breaston added one carry for 25 yards in the game. He did not score a touchdown.
Analysis: Breaston was limited once again by the Packers on Sunday with Orton throwing the passes. It seems the Chiefs passing game is going to struggle no matter who the competition is and no matter who is throwing the passes. Breaston heads into Week 16 against Oakland having not recorded double figures in Fantasy scoring since Week 9 against Miami and he's only done it twice the entire season. That includes Week 7 at Oakland when he caught five passes for 64 yards. Breaston certainly seems to be the second-best option in the passing game for the Chiefs, but that isn't saying much. Consider him a low-end Fantasy start Week 16, at best.
News: Chiefs receiver Steve Breaston heads into Week 15 against Green Bay looking to get back into the end zone for the first time since Week 5 at Indianapolis. Breaston had two touchdowns in that game and has not scored since. He has a decent chance at scoring Week 15 against a Packers team that is allowing the third-most Fantasy points per game to opposing wide receivers on the year. Breaston was a member of the Cardinals when he torched the Packers in a 2010 wild card playoff game for seven catches for 125 yards and a touchdown.
Analysis: Breaston has an excellent matchup ahead of him as the Packers tend to give up huge chunks of yardage to opposing wide receivers. That said, with Tyler Palko being benched and either Ricky Stanzi or Kyle Orton throwing the passes, the K.C. offense isn't expected to shine. Breaston has not topped 44 yards receiving in three straight games and is just a low-end Fantasy option for Week 15.
News: Kansas City WR Steve Breaston had four receptions for 44 yards during the Chiefs' 37-10 loss at the Jets in Week 14. Breaston garnered six targets from QB Tyler Palko -- tied for second most on the team -- as he finished with at least 40 yards for the fourth consecutive outing.
Analysis: Breaston hasn't produced gaudy receiving numbers, but he has remained consistent with his production. In his past three games, he has finished with exactly 44 yards twice and also turned in a 41-yard outing last Sunday at Chicago. However, he is rarely targeted in the end zone and has not scored a touchdown since Week 5. Consider him a low-end WR option in the majority of Fantasy formats for Week 15 against Green Bay.
News: While he has reached the end zone in only one game this season, Kansas City WR Steve Breaston has maintained a level of consistency with his reception totals in recent weeks. Breaston, the Chiefs' secondary receiving threat to Dwayne Bowe, has amassed at least four catches in each of his past five games while averaging 51 yards per outing in that span. He will seek to halt his scoring drought in Week 14 against the Jets.
Analysis: Breaston scored both of his touchdowns this season during Kansas City's victory over Indianapolis in Week 5. Since then, he has been unable to cross the goal line, but has recorded a 100-yard outing. He's been held in check the past two weeks (85 total yards) as the Chiefs have transitioned to QB Tyler Palko. New York is allowing an average of only 14.8 Fantasy points per game to opposing wideouts this year. Consider Breaston a low-end WR option only in deeper Fantasy formats for Week 14.
News: Chiefs WR Steve Breaston led his team with five catches in a Week 13 win over the Bears, but it didn't add up to much Fantasy production. Breaston made only one catch for more than 10 yards, and he finished with a total of 41 receiving yards. He also went his seventh straight game without a touchdown catch.
Analysis: Breaston has topped 80 receiving yards just twice this season, though in all fairness, Fantasy owners look to Dwayne Bowe to rack up the big yardage totals for the Chiefs. It was a slightly down week for Breaston, but ultimately, it's more of a surprise when he breaks out for a really big game. Especially with a tough matchup against the Jets in store for Week 14, owners should view Breaston as a No. 4 Fantasy WR option.
News: Chiefs WR Steve Breaston has not scored a touchdown in six straight games, and given his Week 13 matchup, he could easily extend that streak to seven. Breaston's Week 13 opponent, the Bears, rank just 30th as a passing defense, but while they have let opposing receivers rack up yardage, they have not let them score. The Bears have allowed wide receivers to score five touchdowns this season, and only one of those has come in the last four games. Only the Browns have allowed fewer touchdowns by wide receivers this season.
Analysis: Breaston could bounce back from his 44-yard performance in Week 12, but unless he makes a trip to the end zone, he will not be worth a start in most leagues. Given that the likelihood of Breaston scoring is low, owners should view him as a No. 4 Fantasy WR in Week 13.
News: Chiefs WR Steve Breaston caught four passes for 44 yards in Week 12 against the Steelers. He was targeted eight times by QB Tyler Palko. Breaston almost had a big catch late in the game, but the referees said he was bobbling the ball on his way out of bounds. The Chiefs would end up losing the game, 13-9, to the Steelers.
Analysis: The Chiefs may have a new quarterback next weekend if they can bring Kyle Orton up to speed during the week. If that happens, Breaston's limited Fantasy value would go up. This is definitely a scenario to keep an eye on heading into Week 13. Kansas City faces Chicago next week, a team that has been giving up around 270 passing yards per contest this season. Owners should consider Breaston more of a No. 4 WR or flex option next weekend.
News: Kansas City WR Steve Breaston has caught 11 passes for 228 yards over his last three games, but faces a tough opponent in Week 12. The Chiefs host the Steelers on Sunday. Pittsburgh is allowing 183.2 passing yards per contest and have given up 13 touchdowns through the air in 10 games. Opposing team's receivers are averaging 15.20 Fantasy points per game versus the Steelers.
Analysis: Breaston faced Pittsburgh in Super Bowl XLIII -- when he was a member of Arizona -- and caught six passes for 71 yards. With Tyler Palko under center, it will be hard for the Chiefs to move the ball on Pittsburgh. Kansas City did claim Kyle Orton off waivers on Wednesday, so if he takes over as quarterback Breaston's stock could rise. For now, Fantasy owners should view him as more of a No. 4 WR or flex option for Week 12.
News: Chiefs WR Steve Breaston was fairly productive in Week 11 against the Patriots. Breaston finished with six receptions for 73 yards in the 34-3 defeat, but was unable to get in the end zone. He had a long of 25 yards and was targeted eight times by rookie QB Tyler Palko in the loss.
Analysis: Breaston was one of the few bright spots for the Chiefs on Monday night, as Palko really struggled to move the offense for much of the game. The 28-year-old has actually been playing very well of late and has now racked up 11 receptions for 228 receiving yards over his last three contests. However, he looks to have a very tough matchup in Week 12 against the Steelers. Pittsburgh boasts one of the leagues best pas defenses, so Breaston could have a hard time getting open next week. Consider him a No. 3 Fantasy WR heading into his next matchup.
News: With Matt Cassel out indefinitely with a hand injury, QB Tyler Palko will make his first career start against the Patriots in Week 11. Chiefs WR Steve Breaston told reporters that everyone on the offense will have to make adjustments, but he is very confident in his new QB. Hes always working hard, whether its in practice or before practice. Hes always been ready for his opportunity," Beaston said. "Even in practice, from what Ive seen, hes ready to step in there. There will be adjustments for all of us but well make those. New England enters Sunday's contest ranked 32nd in pass defense, allowing 309 yards per contest.
Analysis: While Breaston might have confidence in his new QB, most Fantasy owners don't share the same enthusiasm. If Palko was better than Cassel, then he probably would have been starting by now, although he does look to have a favorable matchup in Week 11. The Patriots have surrendered 15 touchdowns through the air and are allowing an average of 27.7 Fantasy points to opposing WRs on the season, which ranks dead least. Still, because Breaston has only manged to register one 100-yard receiving game thus far, consider him a low-end No. 3/high-end No. 4 Fantasy WR on Sunday.
News: Chiefs coach Todd Haley said Monday that QB Matt Cassel has a "significant" hand injury that could end his season. Cassel was hurt Sunday against the Broncos. "Its being evaluated as we speak but it appears hell probably have to have surgery of some type to get it corrected," Haley added. "There is some optimism, but him being a quarterback and throwing the ball with that hand, thats a difficult injury." Cassel's injury likely means his leading receivers -- Dwayne Bowe, Steve Breaston and Jon Baldwin -- could be catching passes from QB Tyler Palko for the foreseeable future, including Week 11 at New England.
Analysis: You always hope when a starting QB goes down that the offense will continue to progress with little disruption. However, if Palko was better than Cassel, then he probably would have been starting by now. Breaston had just one 100-yard game playing with Cassel, but he had a few decent Fantasy performances this year. The news that Cassel might miss significant time means Fantasy owners need to be very cautious with starting Breaston until we see how the offense performs if Palko is under center.
News: Kansas City WR Steve Breaston had four catches for 33 yards Sunday against Denver in Week 10. Breaston had six targets in the game.
Analysis: Breaston struggled against the Broncos after going for seven catches and 115 yards against Miami in Week 9. Breaston should be considered a No. 3 Fantasy WR in Week 11 at New England as long as Matt Cassel (hand) is able to start. Cassel left Week 10 with his hand in a cast.
News: Kansas City WR Steve Breaston had 11 targets against the Dolphins in Week 9 and finished with seven catches for 115 yards, and he is not going to disappear even though Jon Baldwin is starting to get more involved. He still has 24 targets over his past three games, and with more teams trying to take away Dwayne Bowe, Breaston should remain a reliable threat for Matt Cassel, especially heading into Week 10 against Denver. Breaston should be considered a potential starter in PPR leagues and a No. 3 Fantasy receiver in standard formats as well since he has two games with double digits in Fantasy points in his past four outings. The Broncos have allowed 11 touchdowns to opposing receivers and 10 to reach double digits in Fantasy points.
Analysis: We like Breaston as a sleeper heading into Week 10, and he should be considered a solid option in deeper formats with his matchup against the Broncos. Hopefully he can continue to play like he did against the Dolphins in this matchup with Denver.
News: WR Steve Breaston produced his first 100-yard outing with the Chiefs in Week 9 vs. Miami. Breaston totaled a team-high 115 receiving yards on seven catches. He also was targeted 11 times. Unfortunately, he remained stuck on two touchdowns for the season.
Analysis: Breaston was kind of a forgotten man coming into Week 9 after rookie Jon Baldwin outproduced him in Week 8. However, Breaston said Baldwin's emergence would be good for him and it was. Unfortunately, we aren't banking on many more of this performances from Breaston, who remains a No. 4 Fantasy WR at best heading into Week 10 against the Broncos.
News: Next up for Chiefs WR Steve Breaston is a showdown with the winless Dolphins in Week 9. Breaston hasn't scored since his two-touchdown performance in Week 5 against the Colts. But the Dolphins have given up plenty of touchdowns and Fantasy points to WRs in 2011. WRs are averaging 24.6 Fantasy points per week against Miami, which is eighth-highest in the NFL. Also, WRs have totaled 10 touchdowns against the Dolphins.
Analysis: Breaston had a productive run during the Chiefs' four-game win streak in October. He totaled 16 catches for 247 yards and two touchdowns, and finally seems to be settling in with the Chiefs. However, now Jon Baldwin is becoming a factor in the passing game that means less targets for Breaston, who is a low-end Fantasy start for Week 9.
News: Chiefs WR Steve Breaston was fairly productive in Week 8 against the Chargers. Breaston finished with three receptions for 42 yards in the 23-20 victory, averaging 14 yards per reception. He had a long of 21 yards and was targeted four times by QB Matt Cassel.
Analysis: Breaston once again was able to put up respectable numbers, but he was out played by rookie Jon Baldwin, which could be trouble moving forward. While coach Todd Haley has sung Breaston's praises for much of the season, he could lose his starting job if Baldwin continues to out perform him. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on things play out over the coming weeks. For now Breaston remains the team's No. 2 WR and therefore can be a low-end No. 3/high-end No. 4 Fantasy WR heading into Week 9 against the Dolphins.
News: Chiefs WR Steve Breaston will be looking to notch his third touchdown of the season in Week 8 against the Chargers. Breaston has found the end zone twice this season, which both came a few weeks ago against the Colts. San Diego enters Monday night's contest ranked third in pass defense, allowing 175.7 yards per game. The Chargers have surrendered 10 touchdowns through the air and are allowing an average of 16 Fantasy points to opposing WRs on the season.
Analysis: Breaston got off to a pretty slow start this season, but has really picked up his production over the last few weeks. He has caught at least four passes in each of his last three games and has racked up 205 receiving yards and a pair of scores over that stretch. While Cassel will continue to look in Dwayne Bowe's direction in most cases, it does appear Breaston has started earning some of his QBs trust of late. Consider Breaston a low-end No. 3/high-end No. 4 Fantasy WR heading into Week 8.
News: Chiefs WR Steve Breaston was fairly productive in Week 7 against the Raiders. Breston finished with a season-high five receptions for 64 yards in the 28-0 victory, averaging 12.8 yards per reception. He had a long of 19 yards and was targeted nine times by Matt Cassel on the afternoon.
Analysis: Breaston was unable to find the end zone on Sunday afternoon, but once again turned in a solid outing. His five receptions were a season high and he has now registered at least four receptions in each of his last three contests. While Cassel will continue to look in Dwayne Bowe's direction in most cases, it does appear Breaston has started earning some of his QBs trust of late. Still, until he proves he can consistently put up numbers on a weekly basis, his value will remain of a No. 3 or 4 WR. Continue to view him as such heading into Week 8 against the Chargers.
News: Over the past few weeks, Chiefs fans have begun to see why coach Todd Haley was so excited about the free agent acquisition of wide receiver Steve Breaston. Breaston's slow start mirrored that of the Chiefs, who were outscored by a combined 89-10 in blowout losses to the Bills and Lions. Breaston had three catches for just 33 yards in those games. But Breaston has emerged in the last three games as a potent complement to Dwayne Bowe. Breaston has stepped up with 11 receptions for 196 yards and two touchdowns over that span and heads into Sunday's game at Oakland feeling increasingly comfortable working with Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassell. "It's always about developing that trust with your quarterback," Breaston said. "It doesn't just happen overnight. I'm the new guy here. Coach Haley knows me, but not everybody else does. I just think it's a matter of me continuing to be a reliable option for Matt."
Analysis: Breaston's body of work over a three-game span will give the Raiders defense plenty to think about in preparation for the Chiefs. Bowe led the Chiefs with 72 receptions last year, but no other Chiefs wide receiver had more than 22. With Bowe having 23 catches and Breaston adding 14 through five games, the trend toward wideout balance is evident. "The more plays you make, the more trust you get from Matt," Breaston said. "He'll keep coming to you. I just have to keep getting open and keep doing my job." Oakland enters Sunday's contest ranked 28th in pass defense, allowing 284 yards per game. The Raiders have surrendered 12 touchdowns through the air and are allowing an average of 22 Fantasy points per week to opposing WRs on the season. The Raiders have struggled to defend the pass at times this season, so consider Breaston No. 3 Fantasy option in most formats heading into Week 7.
News: Chiefs WR Steve Breaston will be looking to get back in the end zone for the third time this season in Week 7 against the Raiders. Breaston racked up four receptions for 50 yards and two touchdowns during the team's 28-24 victory over the Colts in Week 5. Oakland enters Sunday's contest ranked 28th in pass defense, allowing 284 yards per game. The Raiders have surrendered 12 touchdowns through the air and are allowing an average of 22 Fantasy points to opposing WRs on the season.
Analysis: Breaston seems to finally be getting comfortable in Kansas City's offense, as he has caught at least four passes in each of his last two games. He has racked up a combined 141 yards and two touchdowns over that stretch and has become QB Matt Cassel's clear-cut No. 2 option behind Dwayne Bowe. While Bowe will continue to see most of the targets on Sunday's, Breaston has shown some signs of life over the past few weeks and looks to have a very favorable matchup on Sunday. The Raiders have struggled to defend the pass at times this season, so consider Breaston No. 2 Fantasy option in most formats heading into Week 7.
News: Kansas City WR Steve Breaston racked up four receptions for 50 yards and two touchdowns -- his first of the season -- during the Chiefs' 28-24 victory over Indianapolis in Week 5 on Sunday. Breaston hauled in a touchdown pass from QB Matt Cassel with less than a minute remaining in the first half to trim the Chiefs' deficit to 10 points. He then caught the game-winning score on an 11-yard strike late in the fourth quarter.
Analysis: Breaston has recorded four catches in each of his past two games as he continues to become familiar with the team's offense. He collected five targets from Cassel to finish second behind Dwayne Bowe (11). "Then you get Steve Breaston, who continues to make so many plays," Cassel said about the receiving tandem. "They compliment each other very well. If you're going to double one, you can't double the other." Fantasy owners should view Breaston as a viable bye-week replacement in Week 7 following Kansas City's off week.
News: Chiefs coach Todd Haley has been pleased with how Steve Breaston has progressed as a receiver in 2011. Ive seen Steve play all positions, in both places Arizona and here," Haley said. "Hes got a very good feel and understanding of the offense and its getting more and more clear and I think hes feeling better and better as he goes forward and youre just seeing some of that comfort level showing up. Hes an important guy for us and well move all those guys around a bunch but its great when you have a guy that can do both. The more of those guys you have the better to allow you some flexibility with other guys that maybe are better fits one place or the other.
Analysis: Breaston is coming off his best performance with K.C. heading into Week 5 against the Colts. Breaston has had only a handful of opportunities to catch the ball this season, but hes shown an ability to gain plenty of yards when given the chance. Of his 10 catches, four have gone for 20 yards or more and two went for 40-plus yards (42 and 43 yards). His longest receptions have come in the last two weeks as he looks to extend the impressive streak to three games. He still has yet to reach the end zone this year, but could benefit against the Colts' defense, which is allowing 22.5 Fantasy points per game to opposing receivers. Consider Breaston a No. 4 Fantasy WR and a possible bye-week replacement.
News: Kansas City WR Steve Breaston has had only a handful of opportunities to catch the ball this season, but hes shown an ability to gain plenty of yards when given the chance. Of his 10 catches, four have gone for 20 yards or more and two went for 40-plus yards (42 and 43 yards). His longest receptions have come in the last two weeks as he looks to extend the impressive streak to three games during Week 5 at Indianapolis.
Analysis: In the first three games of the year, Breaston has having trouble creating a connection with QB Matt Cassel during his first season with Kansas City. But he turned in a solid performance in Week 4 against Minnesota (season-high 91 yards) as the Chiefs were forced to pass often in the second half. He still has yet to reach the end zone this year, but could benefit against the Colts' defense, which is allowing 22.5 Fantasy points per game to opposing receivers. Consider Breaston a No. 4 Fantasy WR and a possible bye-week replacement.
News: WR Steve Breaston had his best game as a Chief, and he helped his new team to a 22-17 victory over the Vikings in Week 4. Breaston was targeted five times by QB Matt Cassel, catching four passes for 91 yards. His 42-yard reception in the second quarter helped to set up a 24-yard Ryan Succop field goal, and a 28-yard pass play was instrumental to a 54-yard conversion by Succop in the third quarter. The latter field goal gave the Chiefs a 12-10 lead that they never relinquished.
Analysis: The former Cardinals receiver made his first real splash as a member of the Chiefs, but he also did it against one of the league's worst pass defenses. He doesn't get targeted nearly as often as fellow receiver Dwayne Bowe, so Breaston is not a viable Fantasy option outside of very deep leagues. His Week 5 matchup against the Colts should be a more difficult challenge, so owners in practically all formats should wait and see how Breaston handles this next test before making him active.
News: In his first season with Kansas City, WR Steve Breaston has been slowed by the Chiefs' sluggish offense and is averaging less than 30 receiving yards per game this year. Breaston improved his average with his season-long 43-yard catch last week during Kansas City's loss at San Diego last Sunday. The 28-year-old is hoping to improve that mark in Week 4 against Minnesota, which is allowing an average of 299.3 passing yards.
Analysis: Breaston's decent outing last Sunday may have been encouraging to Fantasy owners, but it likely won't be a regular trend as Chiefs QB Matt Cassel continues to struggle under center. Breaston is still the secondary receiver to Dwayne Bowe and Dexter McCluster could also play a part in the receiving game out of the backfield. Fantasy owners should not consider him a viable option in Week 4 against the Vikings.
News: Chiefs WR Steve Breaston was targeted six times on Sunday against the Chargers. He caught three passes for 55 yards -- 43 of them coming on one haul. Kansas City would lose to San Diego, 20-17, despite Breaston's efforts.
Analysis: Breaston definitely had his best outing of the year, but the offense is still searching for an identity. He still has to prove himself worthy of Fantasy attention and should get his chance to in Week 4. Kansas City hosts Minnesota, a team that has been getting burned this year. The Vikings are giving up 318.7 yards receiving per contest. For now, Fantasy owners should monitor Breaston as he could be a nice pickup later in the year.
News: Chiefs WR Steve Breaston has never faced the Chargers and will get his first taste of AFC West competition this Sunday. Through the first two weeks of the season Breaston has not gotten to involved in the offense, but the Chiefs have scored just 10 points so far this season.
Analysis: Breaston is not a big-time target for the Chiefs, but he has shown explosiveness in the past when with the Cardinals. Despite his potential, Breaston has a lot to prove to Kansas City and Fantasy owners. For that reason he is not a recommended play for Week 3 against San Diego.
News: Chiefs WR Steve Breaston was once again a non-factor Week 2 against the Lions. He notched two catches for 26 yards last week and followed it up on Sunday with a one-catch, 7-yard output. Breaston was targeted just twice in the 48-3 blowout loss.
Analysis: Breaston has not been able to get in the receiving mix much even with the team down considerably in the first two games. The season is still young, but Fantasy owners should not continue to rely on the former Michigan Wolverine until his play proves he should be in the mix. Breaston should be benched heading into Week 3 at San Diego.
News: Though he led the team in receiving last week, Chiefs WR Steve Breaston had an uninspiring debut with the club. The entire offense looked to be behind the learning curve, so they dedicated their week offensively to correcting the mistakes. Week 2 against the Lions would be a good starting point. They allowed the 19th-most Fantasy points to opposing WRs last season. Breaston last faced Detroit in 2009 while he was with the Cardinals, when he notched 38 yards and a fumble on three catches.
Analysis: Breaston will again be starting opposite Dwyane Bowe with Jon Baldwin out of the mix, so he should see some action in the passing game. QB Matt Cassel tossed only two passes his way last week, as the two continue to try and develop some chemistry. Breaston is an intriguing option because of his track record, but Fantasy owners should look elsewhere heading into Sunday.
News: Chiefs WR Steve Breaston finished with a team-high 26 receiving yards in a 41-7 loss to the Bills in Week 1. He caught both of the passes that came his way from QB Matt Cassel.
Analysis: Breaston played in his first regular-season game with K.C. in Week 1. He came into the game nursing a hamstring injury but that wasn't the reason for his bad performance. The Chiefs offense was out of sync all day. Breaston could be a nice secondary option in the passing game behind Dwayne Bowe, but you can leave him on benches in most Fantasy formats until his breakout run. The Chiefs play the Lions in Week 2.
News: Chiefs WR Steve Breaston, who was listed as probable on the injury report with a hamstring injury, is active for Week 1 vs. Buffalo.
Analysis: Sunday is Breaston's regular-season debut with the Chiefs. He is going to be more of a secondary option in the passing game behind Dwayne Bowe and is not a recommended Fantasy start for Week 1.
News: Chiefs WR Steve Breaston, who was limited in practice Friday (hamstring)and is listed as probable for the Week 1 matchup against the Bills, has had some trouble getting to 100 percent following offseason knee surgery. Still, he is expected to make his Kansas City debut against a team that held their own against wideouts in 2010. The Bills made their mark by holding the position to 19.4 Fantasy points per week, which was tied for 11th lowest in the NFL. Breaston had six catches for 35 yards in the preseason, and he has been starting opposite Dwayne Bowe.
Analysis: The numbers WRs put up against the Bills last season are misleading seeing how most teams ran the ball against Buffalo. However, it was disappointing to see Breaston put up weak offensive numbers this preseason and it's going to be interesting to see where he fits into the Chiefs' game plan this season, as long as he plays. Breaston is not a recommended Fantasy start Week 1, though owners should keep an eye on his progress.
News: WR Steve Breaston will make his regular-season debut for the Chiefs in Week 1 against the Bills after totaling six catches for 35 yards in the preseason. Breaston previously faced the Bills in 2008 with the Cardinals, totaling seven catches for 77 yards. Buffalo yielded 19.4 Fantasy points per week to WRs in 2010, which was tied for 11th lowest in the NFL.
Analysis: The numbers WRs put up against the Bills last season are misleading seeing how most teams ran the ball against Buffalo. However, it was disappointing to see Breaston put up weak offensive numbers this preseason and it's going to be interesting to see where he fits into the Chiefs' game plan this season. Breaston is not a recommended Fantasy start Week 1.
News: Chiefs WR Steve Breaston, who signed with the team in the offseason, appeared as the starting wideout opposite Dwayne Bowe in Friday's preseason game against the Rams. He was targeted three times while working with the first-team offense, hauling in two passes from Matt Cassel on the way to 14 yards.
Analysis: Breaston was on the outside early on, but he shifted to the slot once Jerheme Urban entered the game. The versatile WR has experience in both spots in Todd Haley's offense, so he should be an option to keep an eye on going forward. Breaston should be considered a solid late-round pick on Draft Day, though we see him as a No. 4 WR option until he proves otherwise.
News: With news that the Cardinals would not bring back free-agent WR Steve Breaston, speculation ran wild about a reunion with former offensive coordinator Todd Haley in Kansas City. The process followed through on Wednesday, when the speedy WR reached an agreement with the Chiefs on a five-year deal. Breaston had his best season in the NFL under Haley, when he notched 1,006 yards in 2008 on 77 catches.
Analysis: Breaston was limited to 28 of a possible 32 games over the last two seasons as a starting WR opposite Larry Fitzgerald, but he thrived as a slot option with Anquan Boldin there beforehand. Breaston figures to be right back in the slot with Dwayne Bowe and rookie Jonathan Baldwin on the outside. Fantasy owners should consider him to be a solid late-round pick on Draft Day, though we see him as a No. 4 WR option until he proves otherwise.
News: The Arizona Republic, citing an unnamed source, reports that WR Steve Breaston will not return to the Cardinals for the 2011 season. Breaston has been linked to former Cardinals offensive coordinator and current Chiefs head coach Todd Haley this offseason and might sign there. Breaston had an awesome 1,000-yard season in 2008 but followed that up with a pair of 700-yard campaigns and four touchdowns over his next two seasons. He had a knee injury that plagued him for part of 2010.
Analysis: Breaston figures to land in a complementary role wherever he winds up. He's far from the exciting receiver we saw in 2008. Fantasy owners should only spend a pick on Breaston late in deeper seasonal drafts. We'll let you know where he winds up.
News:Pro Football Weekly speculates that when free agency begins, the Chiefs will attempt to land WR Steve Breaston. Breaston worked in the slot in Arizona while in Todd Haley's offense, and the two could reunite in K.C. Last season Breaston started opposite Larry Fitzgerald in Arizona and had a bad year (718 yards, one touchdown), though rough quarterback play was part of the problem.
Analysis: Breaston fitting in with the Chiefs sounds good to us, especially since he had some great success in Haley's scheme in 2008 (1,006 yards, three touchdowns). If he were to land in Kansas City we'd consider Breaston a decent reserve receiver for Fantasy, which is what he'd also be in Arizona assuming that the Cardinals address the quarterback position. Think late-round pick on Breaston.
News: The Cardinals have extended a tender offer to restricted free agent WR Steve Breaston, ESPN reported Tuesday. Breaston could qualify as an unrestricted free agent under a new labor deal.
Analysis: Breaston was a disappointment for Fantasy owners in 2010 as he dealt with injuries and poor QB play. If he returns to the Cardinals in 2011 he would resume his role as the No. 2 WR opposite Larry Fitzgerald. If the Cardinals can improve their QB play then Breaston's value will rise, but go into the season with Breaston as a No. 4 Fantasy option. And if he leaves Arizona for a new team then his value could change depending on who is throwing him passes.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston might have played his last game as a Cardinal. The free agent to be was targeted six times, catching four passes for 26 yards in Week 17 against the 49ers. With rookie QB John Skelton and Richard Bartel under center for Arizona, the passing attack was less-than stellar.
Analysis: Breaston's Fantasy value all depends on if he resigns with the Cardinals or takes his talents elsewhere. If he remains in Arizona, Fantasy owners should consider him a low-end No. 3 WR option. With the quarterback situation a mess right now one would think that will be addressed in the offseason. Depending on who is brought into Arizona or if Breaston decides to sign with another team, his value would change. Keep an eye on him in the offseason.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston got blanked by Dallas in Week 16, which leaves him seven catches shy of having his third consecutive 50-catch season. The only thing standing in his way is his knees, which have been bothering him all season. He's listed as questionable on the injury report. The Cardinals face the 49ers in the season finale on Sunday. Over his last five games against San Francisco, Breaston has 13 catches for 215 yards and no touchdowns. The 49ers have been giving up 23.4 Fantasy points to opposing team's receivers this season.
Analysis: Breaston will need to get healthy and get hot if he wants to keep his streak alive. But with rookie QB John Skelton under center on Sunday, things don't look great for Breaston. Skelton hasn't thrown for more than 200 yards in his three starts this season and has just one touchdown pass. At this stage of the season, Breaston is not a recommended Fantasy WR option.
News: The Arizona Republic reports that Cardinals WR Steve Breaston is dealing with knee soreness, and that it has limited his playing time. Breaston, who was not on the injury report last week, split time with rookie Andre Roberts and did not have a catch in a game Saturday in Week 16 against Dallas for the first time in just more than a year. He hasn't scored a touchdown since Week 3, and he has just four catches for 60 yards in his past three games.
Analysis: Breaston's Fantasy value has also diminished with John Skelton starting at QB for the Cardinals. It sounds like Breaston is trying to play through his knee pain, but we don't expect much from him in Week 17 at San Francisco. Ignore him in all leagues if you can and hope he returns at 100 percent healthy in 2011.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston was active for the Week 16 win over the Cowboys. He played in the game as evidenced by a fumble recovery he made on the stat sheet. However, that is where his stats stopped for the 27-26 win over Dallas. Breaston went without a catch in the game and was not even targeted by QB John Skelton once. Meanwhile, rookie Andre Roberts caught five passes for 110 yards and a touchdown.
Analysis: Skelton only had eyes for Roberts in the Week 16 win as even Larry Fitzgerald only managed one catch in the game with three targets. Still, to not even target Breaston once is odd. Breaston now heads into Week 17 at San Francisco with very limited production in his last five games. He has a total of nine catches over that span for 36 yards and no scores. Breaston has not scored since Week 3 against Oakland and is not a viable Fantasy option at this point for the season finale against the 49ers.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston heads into Week 16 against Dallas on Christmas Day with limited production in his last four games. He has a total of nine catches over that span for 36 yards per contest and no touchdowns. Breaston has not scored since Week 3 against Oakland, in fact. That said, the last time he faced the Cowboys, Breaston had eight catches for 102 yards and a touchdown.
Analysis: Breaston has not been producing much lately but he has one giant thing going for him entering the Week 16 game. The Cowboys allow the most average Fantasy points per game to opposing wide receivers in the NFL. A wide receiver has recorded a touchdown against them in every game this season except Week 1 and they've allowed 22 touchdowns to the position on the year. Even with John Skelton throwing the passes, Breaston could see a boost in his numbers. Still, Fantasy owners will want to go with a more reliable option in this important juncture of the season. Breaston is really just a flex option.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston caught only two passes for 42 yards in a Week 15 loss to the Panthers, but he helped his Fantasy owners a bit by falling on a Tim Hightower fumble at the goal line for a touchdown.
Analysis: Breaston has now caught just four passes in two games with QB John Skelton under center, and his owners will be crossing their fingers that QB Derek Anderson will be cleared for Week 16 against the Cowboys on Christmas Day. For now, Breaston is barely worth starting in Fantasy play as a flex option, but his prospects could improve if Anderson returns on Saturday, so don't dump him just yet.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston (knee) is a go for Week 15 at Carolina. He was listed as probable coming into the contest.
Analysis: Carolina has allowed only eight touchdowns to wide receivers this season and ranks as the third toughest defense for Fantasy WRs. Breaston had just two catches for 18 yards last week in rookie QB John Skelton's first start under center, and the fact that the Cardinals are likely to rely heavily on Tim Hightower and Beanie Wells on Sunday doesn't bode well for Breaston. Consider him a low-end flex option at best for Week 15.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) is listed as probable for Week 15 against the Panthers, despite the fact he's dealing with a knee injury that has limited him pretty much all week. Carolina has allowed only eight touchdowns to wide receivers this season and ranks as the third toughest defense for Fantasy WRs.
Analysis: Breaston had just two catches for 18 yards last week in rookie QB John Skelton's first start under center, and the fact that the Cardinals are likely to rely heavily on Tim Hightower and Beanie Wells on Sunday doesn't bode well for Breaston. Consider him a low-end flex option at best for Week 15.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) was limited in practice again Thursday as the team prepares for Week 15 against the Panthers.
Analysis: Getting practice time off is almost becoming routine for Breaston, who hasn't missed a game since returning in Week 8. The Cardinals don't want to hurt his long-term potential in what has become a lost season, so they might as well rest Breaston when they get a chance. Breaston had just 18 yards in Week 14 as John Skelton made his first start. Expect some unpredictable stat lines from Breaston the rest of the way, so that makes him a low-end Fantasy play for Week 15.

News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston -- who has been dealing with a knee injury -- was active and showed his versatility in Week 14 against Denver. He was targeted six times, catching two passes for 18 yards. Breaston was able to get 17 yards on a reverse play, after rookie QB John Skelton made a key block freeing him up. He would also throw a pass to Larry Fitzgerald off a double reverse, but have Denver DB Champ Bailey knock the ball to the ground just short of the end zone.
Analysis: Breaston opens things up for Fitzgerald, but with a rookie quarterback or the unproductive Derek Anderson under center, Breaston likely won't be a big contributor. The Cardinals face the Panthers in Week 15, a team that has been allowing just over 200 passing yards per contest. No matter who starts for the Cardinals next week, Breaston should be viewed as a No. 4 WR or flex option for Week 15.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston was active for Sunday's game against the Broncos. He's been dealing with a knee injury all year and has missed some games because of it.
Analysis: Breaston on the field helps out Larry Fitzgerald and is a key component of the offense. But with John Skelton under center for the Cardinals, Fantasy owners should view him as a No. 4 WR option for Week 14.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) is officially listed as probable heading into the Week 14 game against the Broncos. He was limited most of the week before practicing at full speed on Friday. Breaston has just one touchdown catch this season and it came back in Week 3 against Oakland. Breaston is coming off a 62-yard performance last week. Breaston is aiming for his seventh straight game with at least four catches -- against an AFC opponent. The Cardinals face the Broncos in Week 14, a team with some issues of their own this season. Denver has been giving up 233.6 passing yards per game this year and allowing 21 Fantasy points to opposing team's receivers.
Analysis: Breaston is a key component to the Cardinals offense, but has just 339 yards since returning from a knee injury. Throw in the fact that the quarterback situation in Arizona is also a mess. Sunday's starter will be rookie John Skelton, who will make his first NFL start. That doesn't bode well for Fantasy owners of any Arizona receiver. Owners should view him as a No. 4 WR option for Week 14.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) was limited at practice for a second straight day Thursday as Arizona continued preparations for its Week 14 game vs. Denver.
Sunday's starter will likely be John Skelton or could be recently signed quarterback Richard Bartel. That doesn't bode well for Fantasy owners of any Arizona receiver. Owners should view him as a No. 4 WR option for Week 14.

He was limited in practice on Wednesday as he continues to nurse his nagging knee injury.

Sunday's starter will likely be John Skelton or could be recently signed quarterback Richard Bartel. That doesn't bode well for Fantasy owners of any Arizona receiver. News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston was relatively quiet in Week 13 against the Rams. Breaston, who has been dealing with a knee injury, was targeted six times in the 19-6 loss and finished with three receptions for 62 yards. He averaged 20.7 yards per reception and had a long of 26 yards in the contest.
Analysis: Breaston has not scored a touchdown in his last six games since returning from a knee injury and has racked up 339 yards receiving over that span. He has the ability to stretch the field and make big plays, but it appears his knee is still giving him a few problems and Arizona has been dreadful on offense of late. Sunday was no different and the Cardinals seem to have lost both QB Derek Anderson and QB Max Hall to injuries. Anderson is being tested for a concussion and Hall has been ruled out for a few weeks with a dislocated shoulder. That means John Skelton could be in line to make his first start next week against the Broncos. With Arizona's current mess at the quarterback position, consider Breaston a No. 4 Fantasy WR or flex option in Week 14 against Denver.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston has officially been ruled active for Week 13 against the Rams. Breaston was limited in practice on Friday with a knee injury. He is averaging 46.4 yards per game in his career against St. Louis.
Analysis: Breaston doesn't have a touchdown in his last five games since returning from a knee injury that is still bothering him a bit. He would surely like to break the scoreless streak in Week 13 against an old division rival. Breaston has three games with 90 or more yards since returning in Week 8. The Cardinals might be struggling as a team, but Breaston is doing quite well. Consider him a No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option for Week 13.
News: Although Cardinals WR Steve Breaston doesn't have a touchdown in seven career games against the Rams, St. Louis is not taking him lightly in Week 13, especially not after what Breaston did in Week 1 to the Rams. Breaston had one of his best games of his career, catching seven passes for 132 yards. We have to be aware of where hes at," Rams CB Ron Bartrell said. "He made a ton of plays (Week 1)." Breaston is averaging 46.4 yards per game in his career against St. Louis.
Analysis: Breaston doesn't have a touchdown in his last five games since returning from a knee injury.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) is listed as probable for Week 13 vs. St. Louis, despite practicing on a limited basis again Friday.
Analysis: Breaston has played the last five games after missing three games with the knee injury. He has been productive for the most part with 90-plus yards in three of his last five games. However, he hasn't scored since returning. The Cardinals offense is struggling, so consider Breaston more of a No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option for Week 13.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) went from full practice reps on Wednesday to limited reps Thursday, but he is not expected to miss Week 13 against the Rams.
Analysis: Breaston has played the last five games after missing three games with the knee injury. He has been productive for the most part with 90-plus yards in three of his last five games. However, he hasn't scored since returning. The Cardinals offense is struggling, so consider Breaston more of a No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston -- who has been dealing with an injured knee all year -- fully participated in practice Wednesday as the team prepares for the Week 13 game against the Rams. He missed three games with the issue.
Analysis: Breaston seems to be the healthiest he's been all season, but the QB problems the Cardinals are going through are an ongoing cause for concern. Breaston has not scored a touchdown or reached 100 yards receiving since Week 3. Continue to utilize him as a No. 3 Fantasy WR heading into Sunday.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston saw some passes thrown his way in Week 12 against the 49ers but he was only able to come up with a couple of grabs. He was targeted five times by QB Derek Anderson, but he made just two catches for 22 yards in the 27-6 loss. Breatson, who came into Monday night with a knee injury, had a long reception of 15 and averaged 11 yards per catch.
Analysis: Breaston had gone over the 90-yard mark in each of his last two games but he was unable to have the same success against the 49ers on Monday night. San Francisco shutdown Arizona's running game and held their once-heralded passing attack to just 196 yards. He did not looked to be slowed by his injury in Week 12, but his quarterback's play definitely hindered his Fantasy value. Breaston will face off against the Rams and their 21st-rank pass defense in Week 13. When the two division foes met earlier in the year, Breaston had a solid performance catching seven passes for 132 yards. Hopefully he will be able to have a repeat performance so consider Breaston a viable Fantasy WR for Week 13.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston has been dealing with a knee injury this year, but was deemed healthy enough to play against San Francisco in Week 12. In five career games against the division foe, Breaston has caught 11 passes for 193 yards.
Analysis: Breaston has had more than 90 yards receiving in two straight games. When he plays, he's a good weapon for the Cardinals and whichever quarterback is under center. Fantasy owners haven't gotten as much out of Breaston as they were hoping, but he is still a serviceable No. 3 WR.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston has been limited in practice all week and is officially questionable heading into the Week 12 Monday night game against San Francisco. Breaston is dealing with a knee injury. San Francisco ranks 17th in the league against the pass, allowing over 221 yards per game, and have given up an average of 19.8 Fantasy points to opposing wideouts. In five career games against the division foe, Breaston has caught 11 passes for 193 yards.
Analysis: Breaston has produced back to back 90-plus yard efforts, so he is finding his groove after missing three games with the knee issue. He has been limited all week with the knee injury so Fantasy owners will have to pay close attention to his status on Sunday. He should be good to go for the matchup of division rivals so consider Breaston a No. 3 Fantasy WR in Week 12.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) was limited in practice again on Friday as the team prepares for the Week 12 game against the 49ers. News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) was limited in Thursday's practice as the team prepares for the Week 12 game against the 49ers.
Analysis: Breaston has produced back to back 90-plus yard efforts, so he is finding his groove after missing three games with the knee issue. We don't see him being limited on Wednesday as anything major. Continue to use him as a No. 3 Fantasy WR in Week 12.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston went over 90 yards for the third time in his last four games as Arizona fell at Kansas City in Week 11. Breaston finished with five catches for 92 yards and was targeted 12 times.
Analysis: With the Cardinals down big in the last two games, Breaston has benefited from QB Derek Anderson having to throw the ball around a lot. He has stepped up as the clear No. 2 target for Anderson behind Larry Fitzgerald, and could have another nice game in Week 12 on Monday Night Football against the 49ers. Start him as a No. 3 Fantasy WR in most formats for that matchup.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston, who fell two yards short of his third 100-yard receiving game of the season in Week 10, will be facing a Chiefs secondary in Week 11 that has given up two 130-yard receiving games and a 90-yard one in their last five contests. Breaston has never faced Kansas City in his career.
Analysis: The Chiefs gave up a pair of touchdowns to Brandon Lloyd last week, and so the chances of Breaston finding the end zone for only the second team this season seem to be pretty good. While Breaston is the kind of guy who can give you 10 or 100 yards in any given game, he's certainly worth a look as a solid No. 3 Fantasy WR for this decent matchup against the Chiefs, who are allowing Fantasy receiving corps to average 21.5 points against them this season.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston almost had his third 100 yard receiving day in Week 10 against Seattle, but would fall 2 yards short. He was targeted 10 times, making four catches for 98 yards -- an average of 24.5 yards per reception. Breaston has dealt with injuries this season, but in six games he's had two go for more than 100 yards and one come just short.
Analysis: Breaston failed to score a touchdown in Week 10, ending a four game streak of scoring against the Seahawks. While Breaston is the No. 2 receiver in Arizona this year, his durability has hurt his Fantasy value. Toss in the quarterback situation and it doesn't get much better. Heading into Week 11 the Cardinals face the Chiefs. Kansas City has been giving up 232.9 passing yards per game this year, so Breaston does have a favorable matchup. Consider him a low-end Fantasy WR option for next week.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston is looking for his fourth straight game against the Seahawks with a touchdown. Breaston has 16 catches for 247 and three touchdowns in the past three outings against Seattle. Breaston has been dealing with a knee injury this season, and missed the team's first meeting back in Week 6. Seattle has been allowing 270.5 passing yards per game this season, which is one of the worst in the NFL.
Analysis: Breaston has a favorable matchup in Week 10 and seems to play well against the Seahawks. With Derek Anderson and Max Hall running the team this year, Arizona's passing game has taken a big hit from the past few years. He's moved up the depth chart this season, but, Fantasy owners should view Breaston as a low-end No. 3/high-end No. 4 WR option for Week 10.
News: Despite being limited in practice on Friday, Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) was activated for Week 9 at Minnesota. He had been listed as probable on the injury report and was expected to play. Breaston caught three passes for 28 yards. He was targeted six times and he also completed a 17-yard pass on a trick play.
Analysis: Breaston was coming off his best performance of the season with eight catches for 147 yards, but he was very limited in a game in which Derek Anderson threw for just 179 yards and 107 of them went to Larry Fitzgerald. This particular matchup against a strong Vikings secondary did not bode well for him to begin with, but he could have more open looks in Week 10 against a Seahawks defense that was absolutely lit up in Week 9 by the Giants.
News: Despite being limited in practice on Friday, Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) was activated for Week 9 at Minnesota. He had been listed as probable on the injury report and was expected to play. Breaston returned to the lineup in Week 8 against the Bucs after missing three games with a knee injury and posted eight catches for 147 yards. Derek Anderson has been named the team's starting QB for Week 9.
Analysis: Breaston is expected to play Week 9 barring a setback. In order for a repeat of his Week 8 performance, he is going to have to work against a talented Vikings secondary. The Vikings are allowing WRs to average 19 Fantasy points per week, which is tied for 11th lowest in the NFL. Although, Minnesota has allowed a pair of 100-yard receivers -- James Jones and Brandon Tate -- the last two weeks, so they do have some weaknesses. Consider Breaston a high-end No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 9.

Breaston returned to the lineup in Week 8 against the Bucs after missing three games with a knee injury and posted eight catches for 147 yards. Derek Anderson has been named the team's starting QB for Week 9.
Analysis: It's not surprising to see Breaston get some rest during the week so he is as close to 100 percent as possible on Sundays. He is expected to play Week 9 barring a setback. News: Arizona's Steve Breaston, back after missing three games because of arthroscopic knee surgery, caught eight passes for a career-high 147 yards in Week 8 against Tampa Bay. He was targeted 11 times and even had a 14-yard run, for the Cardinals. Breaston and backup QB Derek Anderson started connecting in the second half, as rookie Max Hall was benched in the second quarter. Anderson threw a 33-yard pass to Steve Breaston -- it was challenged by the Buccaneers -- but was upheld giving the Cards a first down at the Tampa Bay 11 yard line. The drive stalled and coach Ken Whisenhunt chose to go for it on fourth-and-2 at the Tampa Bay 3. The ball bounced off a lineman's helmet, and then fell incomplete to Breaston.
Analysis: Breaston led the team in receiving, but he did open the field up a bit for Larry Fitzgerald as he caught two touchdowns in the loss. The Cardinals face the Vikings in Week 9, a team that has been allowing 209.2 yards passing per game. It is unlikely Breaston has another big game like he did in Week 8, but he did seem to have a good rapport going with Anderson. Which brings up the next question -- who will start for Arizona? It seems like Breaston will be more effective with Anderson under center, but this is something Fantasy owners will have to monitor during the week. Breaston should be viewed as a No. 3 Fantasy WR again.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston was active in Week 8, despite dealing with a knee injury, which has kept him out the past three games.
Analysis: Breaston back in the lineup could open up the field more for Larry Fitzgerald, which is good news for Fantasy owners. Unfortunately, the quarterback situation in Arizona isn't good, so Breaston can't be expected to put up numbers like he has in the past. He is a risky start until he shows he is 100 percent on the field.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) is listed as questionable for Week 8 vs. Tampa Bay. However, coach Ken Whisenhunt said Thursday that there was no doubt Breaston would return to the lineup Sunday. He has missed the last three games.
Analysis: We will know Sunday if Whisenhunt is right or wrong about Breaston's availability. With a little uncertainty, you might consider starting other alternatives in Fantasy. It doesn't help Breaston's cause that he will be catching passes from an inexperienced QB in Max Hall. The Bucs are allowing WRs to average 20 Fantasy points per week, which is tied for 13th highest in the NFL. The Bucs have given up nine receiving touchdowns to WRs, but Breaston is still a risky Fantasy start for Week 8 since he is coming off injury.
News: Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt says there is no doubt WR Steve Breaston will play Sunday. He doesn't anticipate any further problems with his knee. Whisenhunt said earlier in the week that Breaston wasn't activated Week 7 against the Seahawks due to concern about the impact the field surface and weather conditions would have on Breaston's surgically repaired knee. "It's sore but that's expected," Breaston said. "I felt good out there running. I'm getting my speed up, getting my burst together. I'm really ready to play on Sunday."
Analysis: The weather won't be a factor in Week 8 for Breaston since he will be playing in a dome stadium. All signs points to him making his return in Week 8. While Breaston was out, the Cardinals switched QBs to rookie Max Hall. Getting Breaston back will help with Hall's progression, but he is still a rookie and will have his ups and downs under center. The Bucs are allowing WRs to average 20 Fantasy points per week, which is tied for 13th highest in the NFL. The Bucs have given up nine receiving touchdowns to WRs, but Breaston is still a risky Fantasy start for Week 8 since he is coming off injury and will be playing with an inexperienced QB.

Breaston was back at practice on Wednesday, but he went through limited reps. The Cardinals' official website reports Breaston should play Sunday barring a setback.

News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston was on the inactive list for the third straight game in Week 7 against the Seahawks. He has been out with a knee injury and has 14 receptions on the year for 183 yards and a touchdown. Andre Roberts got the start against Seattle and their 30th ranked pass defense on Sunday.
Analysis: Breaston was a game-time decision coming into Week 7 and it looked as though he might be able to play, but Fantasy owners are going to have to stash him away for at least one more week. Even though Arizona's offense has struggled this season, the 27-year-old stands to see a lot of passes thrown his way playing opposite of Larry Fitzgerald. Keep Breaston on the bench for Sunday's game against the Seahawks and monitor his progress throughout the week to see if he will be able to play in Week 8 against the Buccaneers.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston was limited again in practice on Friday because of a knee injury and will likely be a game-time decision at Seattle. Breaston is looking to return in Week 7 against the Seahawks after missing two games.
Analysis: As long as Breaston doesn't suffer a setback, he should be able to play in Week 7. Breaston will want to get back to face Seattle since the Seahawks are allowing WRs to average 24.8 Fantasy points per week, which is seventh highest in the NFL. Breaston has 22 catches for 314 yards and three touchdowns in six career games against Seattle. The 22 catches and three touchdowns are the highest in his career against an opponent. Still, most of those stats came when Kurt Warner was slinging passes. Coming off an injury and catching passes from a rookie QB make Breaston at best a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option for Week 7.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston was once again limited in practice on Thursday because of a knee injury. Breaston is looking to return in Week 7 against the Seahawks after missing two games. Coach Ken Whisenhunt isn't concerned about QB Max Hall's comfort level with Breaston and Early Doucet, who just returned from injuries. "Think back to training camp," Whisenhunt said. "Max has had reps with all these guys. I don't see it being an issue."

News: Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said the key in determining the game availability for WRs Steve Breaston (knee) and Early Doucet (groin) will be how their injuries react to the first couple of days of practice. Both players were limited on Wednesday as the team prepares for Week 7 at Seattle. Rookie QB Max Hall is eagerly awaiting the return of both players, but he told NFL.com that Breaston's return would especially help "a ton." Its going to be key to quickly get on the same page with those guys getting back, Hall said. Im spending extra time with them, extra film work with them, whatever. It just adds more weapons to the offense.
Analysis: Breaston has missed the last two games and used the bye in Week 6 to rest up. Still, if he labors in practice, then his status for Week 7 will remain up in the air. Breaston will want to get back to face Seattle since the Seahawks are allowing WRs to average 24.8 Fantasy points per week, which is seventh highest in the NFL. News: The Cardinals have officially ruled out WR Steve Breaston (knee) for Week 5 vs. the Saints.
Analysis: Breaston had arthroscopic knee surgery after Week 3 and many believed he'd be out until after the Cards' Week 6 bye, but the former Michigan star has made good progress lately. Continue to stash him away in 12-team formats.
News: Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt did not rule out WR Steve Breaston from playing against the Saints in Week 5, but did say he would need to see noticeable progress in practice, according to the Arizona Republic. Breaston is said to be progressing, although he missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday.
Analysis: Breaston had arthroscopic knee surgery after Week 3 and many believed he'd be out until after the Cards' Week 6 bye. If Breaston can practice Friday, there is an outside chance he will play, although we don't expect him to. If he does play, he faces a Sanits pass defense that ranks 11th in the league but lost CB Tracy Porter to injury and have some other DB issues, so they could be exploited by the Cardinals behind rookie QB Max Hall. Breaston could be of use as a No. 3 option if he can make it to Sunday. We'll keep you posted.

Breaston said he's progressing and hopes to be back soon. He was unable to practice on Wednesday.

If he practices by Friday, then perhaps there's a chance he's made active on Sunday. The Saints' pass defense is ranked 11th in the league but lost CB Tracy Porter to injury and have some other DB issues, so they could be exploited by the Cardinals depending on their quarterback situation. News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) is inactive for the Week 4 game at San Diego. Breaston had an arthroscopic procedure Tuesday to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. RB Beanie Wells missed a couple of weeks after a similar procedure.
Analysis: Breaston should be benched in all Fantasy formats. He should be out at least a few weeks, and could return in Week 7, after the Cardinals bye week. When healthy, Breaston is a No. 3 Fantasy WR.
News: The Cardinals confirmed Wednesday that WR Steve Breaston had an arthroscopic procedure Tuesday to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. RB Beanie Wells missed a couple of weeks after a similar procedure.
Analysis: Breaston should obviously be benched for Week 4 at San Diego, and with the Cardinals getting their bye in Week 6, Breaston won't be worth using until at least Week 7. This injury comes at a bad time, as Breaston was off to a pretty decent start this season (14 rec., 183 yards and one touchdown). Some good receivers to consider starting in his place who you might find on waivers include Saints WR Lance Moore, Broncos WR Brandon Lloyd, Raiders WR Louis Murphy and Colts WR Blair White.
News:Steve Breaston has undergone surgery to fix a torn meniscus in his knee and is expected to be out until at least Week 7, according to KGME-AM in Phoenix and ESPN. Breaston was reportedly seen limping around the Cardinals' facility on Monday after catching four balls for 41 yards and a touchdown vs. Oakland in Week 3. The Cardinals will likely utilize rookie receivers Stephen Williams and Max Komar as well as tight end Ben Patrick in Breaston's place.
Analysis: Once the report is confirmed, Fantasy owners should plant Breaston on the bench until further notice. He's off to a pretty decent start this season (14 rec., 183 yards and one touchdown) but won't help owners while being inactive. Some good receivers to consider starting in his place who you might find on waivers include Saints WR Lance Moore, Broncos WR Brandon Lloyd, Raiders WR Louis Murphy and Colts WR Blair White. We'll keep you posted on Breaston's status.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston caught his first touchdown pass of the season in Week 3 against the Raiders. Breaston connected with Derek Anderson for a 2-yard score in the second quarter. He finished with four catches for 41 yards and a touchdown. Breaston was targeted a team-high eight times and averaged 10.3 yards a reception in the 24-23 victory.
Analysis: While Breaston didn't put up huge numbers on Sunday, it was nice to see him finally score a touchdown. The Cardinals are still struggling to find their identity on offense and Breaston is still dealing with a knee injury. It didn't appear to be a factor on Sunday, but Fantasy owners should definitely monitor his status over this week. Breaston should be considered a No. 4 Fantasy WR heading into Week 4 against the Chargers.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston, who was limited in practice all week with a knee injury, has been ruled active for Week 3 against the Raiders. Breaston has 10 catches for 142 yards so far this season.
Analysis: Breaston was extremely disappointing in Week 2 against the Falcons, totaling just 10 yards on three catches. But Arizona had to play a lot of catch up, so Atlanta knew the pass was coming and was able to defend it. The Cardinals probably will be in a closer battle with Oakland, but that Raiders secondary is good, so Breaston will fight for every yard. It won't help his case that he is not 100 percent. Consider Breaston more of a No. 4 Fantasy WR or flex option for Week 3.

News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston, who was limited in practice for a third straight session on Friday with a knee injury, is officially listed as questionable for Week 3 against the Raiders. However, the Cardinals' official website is reporting that Breaston is expected to play against Oakland. Breaston is expected to pair with Larry Fitzgerald to face a Raiders secondary, led by Nmandi Asomugha, which hasn't been kind to wide receivers in 2010. Opposing wideouts have totaled just 10 catches for 155 yards against Oakland. However, the Raiders have given up three touchdowns to receivers.

News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston was limited for a second straight practice on Thursday to rest his knee as a precaution. Breaston was hit on the knee during Week 2 against the Falcons. He is expected to play Week 3 vs. Oakland. The Raiders have allowed wide receivers to total 10 catches for 155 yards and three touchdowns this season.
Analysis: Unless Breaston has a setback, he should be probable heading into Sunday's game against Oakland. The 2010 season is supposed to be Breaston's time as he takes over Anquan Boldin's starting wide receiver spot. He slumped to 10 yards in Week 2 against the Falcons, but Breaston did have a 100-yard performance in Week 1, so he has the potential to have a big season. The Raiders secondary is very good, but they have allowed a pair of receivers -- Nate Washington and Mark Clayton -- to total three touchdowns, so they have some vulnerability. Consider Breaston a No. 4 Fantasy WR or flex option for Week 3.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) was limited in Wednesday's practice, but the move was precautionary after he got hit on the knee Sunday vs. the Falcons. News: After catching seven passes for a career-best 132 yards in Week 1, Cardinals WR Steve Breason hauled in three passes for 10 yards at Atlanta in Week 2. Breaston was only targeted five times in the game, fewer than rookie Stephen Williams.
Analysis: Not much else to say here about Breaston other than he had a tough game against a pretty good defense. And that his quarterback is part of the problem, not part of the solution. Fantasy owners are going to lose steam in Breaston after this matchup, but keep in mind that he's still the No. 2 receiver for Arizona, and a good receiver at that. He could rebound strong in Week 3 vs. Oakland -- assuming his quarterback, Derek Anderson, gets his act together.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston is coming off his first regular-season 100-yard game since November of 2008, and his first on the road since September of 2008. He'll take on a Falcons defense that allowed just 18 completions for 236 yards last week to the Steelers, though Dennis Dixon was quarterbacking the team. Breaston was recently tabbed by the Arizona Republic as one of the best receivers in the league who does the least showboating. His quiet demeanor combined with his hard work ethic has won over teammates and coaches alike, and his role in the offense last week proves that he's not going to lose his reps anytime soon. "He's just out there doing his job, always in the right spot," QB Derek Anderson said. "He catches the ball when the opportunity comes. I don't think guys show their appreciation for that as much as I respect that. He never complains about anything. He may not get a ball for two days in practice, and he continues to run hard."
Analysis: While well-known receivers like Andre Johnson, Brandon Marshall and Terrell Owens didn't top 100 yards last week, Breaston was one of 11 who did. That's not to say it's going to happen every week, but the simple fact that he was targeted seven times and caught all seven passes says something. With the Cardinals expected to lean on the pass in Week 2 and the Falcons' secondary good but not stifling, Breaston is a very safe option as a top-end No. 3/flex Fantasy WR.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston caught seven passes in Week 1 for a career-high 132 yards against the Rams. He caught the ball all seven times that he was targeted and averaged 18.9 yards per reception. After catching just one pass for 12 yards in the first half, Breaston did most of his damage later on in the game. He also made a touchdown-saving play in the third quarter that would have put the Rams up by 10 points, stripping defensive lineman Clifton Ryan just short of the end zone after a fumble. "Plays like that, you don't know what's going to happen and how it's going to affect the game," Breaston said. "You just have to go after the ball in a situation like that."
Analysis: Breaston had a solid game against St. Louis in Week 1 and was one of the few players that seemed to be on the same page with Derek Anderson. Larry Fitzgerald was slightly slowed by an injury but the fourth-year man out of Michigan was able to pick up the slack. The loss of Anquan Boldin has clearly benefited Breaston so Fantasy owners should consider him no worse than a No. 3 option. He will face off against Atlanta in Week 2. Breaston has no receptions in one career game against the Falcons.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston had a down season in 2009 but has a favorable matchup for his Week 1 opponent as he will face division foe St. Louis. In two games against the Rams last season, he caught four passes for 64 yards. Teams averaged eight yards per reception against St. Louis last season, which should help Breaston, who has 13 receptions in six career games against the Rams for 193 yards.
Analysis: With Anquan Boldin now is Baltimore, Breaston should flourish as the Cardinals No. 2 WR and will look to improve upon the 712 yards he put up last season. Larry Fitzgerald is still the top dog but the attention given towards him should open up the field for Breaston. Coach Ken Whisenhunt said that he might use Beaston as a punt returner but dont count on him adding too much production with that role. The Michigan alum had a breakout year in 2008 (77 receptions, 1,006 yards) and Fantasy owners would love if he could get anywhere close to those numbers in 2010. Keep in mind that Derek Anderson is the new QB for the Cardinals but consider Breaston a low-end No. 3 WR or Flex option for Week 1.
News: The Cardinals tried for more than a week to trade QB Matt Leinart but apparently received little interest, potentially due to his $2.485 million base salary, so they released him Saturday morning. Unless the Cardinals can sign a veteran, they appear ready to go with rookies Max Hall and John Skelton as the backups to QB Derek Anderson, who will now open the season as the starter. That means the Cardinals top receivers -- Larry Fitzgerald, Steve Breaston and Early Doucet -- will have Anderson now throwing them passes in 2010.
Analysis: Breaston should benefit with the QB change from Leinart to Anderson. Breaston played well in his second year two years ago in 2008 and has the chance for an increased role on offense in 2010 with Anquan Boldin now in Baltimore. We like Breaston as a sleeper, and he's worth drafting with a mid-round pick. We also like Breaston as a sleeper in Week 1 with his matchup against the Rams.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston caught two passes for 20 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason win over the Bears.
Analysis: Breaston's Fantasy value is certainly a little up in the air right now with the unstable quarterback situation in Arizona, but he remains worth taking in the middle of all Fantasy drafts as a No. 3 Fantasy WR.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston did not have the best performance in Monday night's preseason loss to the Titans. The Cardinals offense struggled as a unit and Breaston, playing with the first time, struggled too. He managed three grabs for 23 yards and did not get into the end zone. His long grab went for 13 yards.
Analysis: Breaston overcame a groin ailment to play in the first preseason game against the Texans and failed to make a catch in that game. The Cardinals' passing game is something to worry about heading into the regular season. It just doesn't look as strong without Kurt Warner in town. Still, Breaston is the No. 2 option behind Larry Fitzgerald and should start opposite him in 2010. He has the chance to be a No. 3 Fantasy WR, making him worth a middle- to late-round pick in all leagues. Remember, he's just a year removed from a 1,000-yard season.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston overcame a groin ailment to start vs. the Texans in preseason play on Saturday night. He did not record a catch in limited playing time.
Analysis: Don't be worried about the goose egg or the groin injury -- Breaston should be fine for the start of the season. He has the chance to be a No. 3 Fantasy WR, making him worth a middle- to late-round pick in all leagues. Remember, he's just a year removed from a 1,000-yard season.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston was limited in practice Monday because of a sore groin. Coach Ken Whisenhunt called Breaston's minimal reps a "precautionary measure."
Analysis: We expect Breaston to be fine for the start of the season, but continue to monitor his injury. When healthy, Breaston has the chance to be a No. 3 Fantasy WR, and he's worth a mid-round pick in all leagues. Remember, he's filling in as a starter for Anquan Boldin, who is now in Baltimore.
News: The official team website of the Cardinals reports WR Steve Breaston will no longer return punts after the Cardinals drafted WR Andre Roberts in the third round of the NFL Draft. Coach Ken Whisenhunt wants Breaston to focus on his role as the No. 2 WR as Anquan Boldin's replacement. Whisenhunt said "it's going to be hard because Steve isn't going to want to give that up." Breaston agreed with his coach. But he also realizes playing WR and staying healthy is more important than returning punts. "I feel like I can put myself in shape where I can carry that," Breaston said. "I feel I have always returned punts and I enjoy that. I want to get back to where I'm going to compete. I hope they give me that opportunity. I want that shot. I can't lose it."
Analysis: We don't expect to see Breaston very much on special teams as he steps into Boldin's starting role with Boldin now in Baltimore. We like Breaston heading into 2010, and he has the chance to be a starting Fantasy option in all leagues. He should be drafted as a No. 3 Fantasy WR with a mid-round pick, but don't be surprised if he ends up starting in most formats as the year goes on.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston said in an interview with CBSSports.com that he's looking forward to the opportunity to replace Anquan Boldin, who was traded to Baltimore in March. "I'm very excited," Breaston said. "I just want to see what's next for my future. I kind of figured this day would come. I have to step up and be in a bigger role. I learned a lot. I'm ready to do a good job." Breaston said the Cardinals are going to miss Boldin, but he is confident in his own play and the development of Early Doucet to help fill the void. "I'm not the same player as Q," Breaston said. "But I'm going to try to bring in what I can bring in, and hopefully we can pick up where he left off."
Analysis: Breaston also expressed optimism in new QB Matt Leinart, who is replacing the retired Kurt Warner. "Matt is very talented," Breaston said. "I can't see how people give him a lot of flack. A future Hall of Famer beat him out. It's Kurt Warner. It wasn't some Joe Blow off the street. Kurt is a great quarterback, and his numbers showed that. You can't be too hard on Matt. We're going to see that Matt, it's his job to lose. He's going to have a lot more confidence now that a Hall of Famer isn't breathing down his back." We like Breaston heading into 2010, and he has the chance to be a starting Fantasy option in all leagues. He should be drafted as a No. 3 Fantasy WR with a mid-round pick, but don't be surprised if he ends up starting as he replaces Boldin in Arizona's offense.
News: According to the Cardinals official team Web site, WR Steve Breaston signed his one-year tender offer Monday. Breaston was given a first-round tender, which guarantees him a one-year, $2.3 million salary for 2010. Breaston is expected to start this season in place of Anquan Boldin, who was traded to Baltimore.
Analysis: We like Breaston as a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy option heading into 2010. He had another solid year in 2009 with 55 catches for 712 yards and three touchdowns, but it's safe to assume those numbers will go up now that he's starting. Plan on drafting Breaston in all leagues with a mid-round pick.
News: With the Cardinals trading WR Anquan Boldin to the Ravens, all signs point to WR Steve Breaston taking over his spot on the field and being the wideout opposite Larry Fitzgerald. Breaston has done well in the past replacing Boldin, so the move should be fairly seamless for him. Breaston is currently a restricted free agent but with first-round compensation due for him if he signs elsewhere, chances are he's staying. "One of the main reasons we really explored [a Boldin trade] was because of the ascension of younger players, like Steve Breaston and Early Doucet," Cardinals GM Rod Graves told NFL.com. "We really felt like those young guys stepped up and that there is still a lot more potential there."
Analysis: Breaston had another solid year in 2009 with 55 catches for 712 yards and three touchdowns, but it's safe to assume those numbers will go up if he stays with the Cardinals. We like Breaston a lot as a top-end No. 3 Fantasy WR with potential to play as a No. 2 option so long as the Cards don't add more talent to their receiving corps. He could fly as early as Round 6 in drafts this summer.
News: The Cardinals made it clear how they feel about restricted free agent WR Steve Breaston by giving him a first-round tender. That guarantees him a one-year, $2.3 million salary although he could still sign with another team. If a team makes him an offer, the Cardinals could either match the offer or accept a first-round pick as compensation. With that being the case, Breaston is expected to stay with the Cardinals.
Analysis: Breaston had another solid year in 2009 with 55 catches for 712 yards and three touchdowns. Those numbers actually have a shot to rise if the Cardinals re-shape their receiving corps this offseason. That's something to keep an eye on -- for now consider Breaston a good low-end No. 3 WR in deeper PPR leagues and a quality top-end reserve WR in standard formats.
News:Kurt Warner has called an end to one of the great storybook careers in NFL history. The 38-year-old quarterback announced his retirement from the game on Friday after 12 years in a league that at first rejected him, then revered him as he came from nowhere to lead the lowly St. Louis Rams to two Super Bowls, winning the first of them. Written off as a has-been, he rose again to lead the long-suffering Arizona Cardinals to the Super Bowl a year ago. "I'm excited about what's next," Warner said. "Before I was always excited about next season." Warner walked away with a year left on a two-year, $23 million contract, knowing he still had the skills to play at the highest level. With Warner gone, WR Steve Breaston will now have a new QB, which is expected to be Matt Leinart.
Analysis: Warner's departure leaves Leinart as the presumed replacement. The former Heisman Trophy winner has started 17 games for Arizona but only one in the last two years. Breaston had a disappointing season in 2009, but he still has the talent to be a solid Fantasy option if Leinart can get him the ball at the same rate as Warner. We like Breaston as a No. 3 Fantasy WR worth a mid-round pick in 2010, and hopefully Leinart can continue to help Breaston develop into a quality Fantasy option.
News: The Cardinals have listed WR Anquan Boldin as questionable for Saturday's Divisional Playoff Game at New Orleans. Boldin did not play in the Wild Card round against Green Bay with ankle and knee injuries. According to a report on ESPN, the Cardinals are not expecting Boldin to play. The report states that the Cardinals are hopeful that Boldin can play in the NFC Championship Game if they beat the Saints in this round.
Analysis: If Boldin is out against the Saints then Steve Breaston and Early Doucet will step up in his place. Breaston started for Boldin last week and had seven receptions for 125 yards and a touchdown, while Doucet scored two touchdowns against the Packers. Keep Boldin reserved in Fantasy playoff leagues to be safe and hopefully he will be 100 percent soon. When healthy, Boldin is a No. 2 Fantasy WR.
News: Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin, along with LB Gerald Hayes, did not practice Thursday. Boldin has been nursing left ankle and knee injuries he suffered in the Cardinals' regular-season finale against Green Bay. He was inactive for their 51-45 overtime victory over the Packers in the first round of the NFC playoffs Sunday. Hayes suffered a right ankle injury on the first play of the playoff game but played with it the rest of the way. Coach Ken Whisenhunt said both players "certainly will be a game-day decision." The Cardinals play at New Orleans on Saturday.
Analysis: We'll find out if Boldin will be ready to go, but don't count on it as the Cardinals will likely be cautious with him based on his injury history and willingness to play hurt. When healthy, Boldin is a solid Fantasy option in all leagues, and we hope he doesn't suffer any setbacks heading into 2010. He should be considered a No. 2 Fantasy WR worth a mid-round pick next season. If Boldin is out against the Saints then look for Steve Breaston to start in his place. Breaston started for Boldin last week and had seven receptions for 125 yards and a touchdown.
News: Ailing Arizona Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin, along with LB Gerald Hayes, did not practice Wednesday. News: In the absence of Pro Bowl receiver Anquan Boldin (ankle), Arizona WR Steve Breaston stepped in and had a memorable game, hauling in seven catches for 125 yards and a touchdown. He also ran one time for 28 yards in Arizona's 51-45 victory over Green Bay. This was Breaston's highest yardage total all season.
Analysis: With Anquan Boldin being hurt, it shouldn't have come as a surprise to Fantasy owners that Breaston was more than capable of filling in his shoes. Breaston, even as the team's No. 3 receiver, has produced 1,000 yard seasons. With uncertainty in Boldin's injury throughout the playoffs, Breaston will continue to be a solid sleeper pick in Playoff Challenge.
News: Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin missed practice on Friday, completing a week without reps as he struggles with a left high-ankle sprain and a left MCL sprain. He's considered a game-time decision for his team's Wild Card game against the Packers.
Analysis: We doubt Boldin will play much, or play at all, in Sunday's game at this point. While he should be healed well before the start of the 2010 season, he's not an advisable option in Playoff Challenge leagues at this moment. Steve Breaston, however, would be a very sneaky sleeper in the event that Boldin is ruled out in advance of the game. We'll continue to keep you posted.
News: Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin told the Arizona Republic that he has a left high-ankle sprain and a sprained left MCL and is questionable for Sunday's playoff game vs. the Packers. He worked with a trainer and did not practice on Wednesday. "It's getting better every day," Boldin said on the official team Web site. "I'm still optimistic. As long as it keeps improving, I should be all right." Steve Breaston would take Boldin's playing time if he can't play.
Analysis: We doubt Boldin will play much or play well in Sunday's game at this point, though that could certainly change. While he should be healed well before the start of the 2010 season, he's not an advisable option in Playoff Challenge leagues at this moment. Breaston, however, would be a very sneaky sleeper in the event that Boldin is ruled out in advance of the game. We'll keep you posted.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston totaled three catches for 16 yards during a Week 17 loss to the Packers. He was targeted four times and had a long reception of 11 yards. Breaston had less than 40 yards in six of his last seven games.
Analysis: Breaston dealt with a sore knee for most of the 2009 season, and it appeared as the season progressed, Breaston's play suffered because of the knee ailment. It's a real shame too since he was in a walk year. It will be interesting to see if Breaston returns in 2010 to Arizona or looks elsewhere since he is currently third on the Cardinals' depth chart behind Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald. Track Breaston's offseason progress before taking a flier on him Draft Day 2010. We envision him to be a No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston made four receptions for 64 yards to finish second on the Cardinals in the Week 16 victory over the Rams. His long grab went for 45 yards but he did not score in the game.
Analysis: Breaston had his best game since Week 10 of the season and that could continue Week 17 against the Packers. Green Bay owns the No. 2 rush defense and that should have Kurt Warner throwing the ball early and often. Still, Breaston hasnt caught a touchdown pass since Week 10 and is just the third option in the passing game. Consider him a low-end No. 3 WR, at best, for Week 17.
News: In the Cardinals' Week 15 win at the Lions, WR Steve Breaston caught three passes for 38 yards with a fumble. Sadly, this was his best yardage game in four weeks.
Analysis: Breaston has been awful for most of the season and really has only done well when one of the Cardinals' starting receivers is hurt. Consider him a low-end No. 3 WR at best for Week 16 vs. the Rams.
News: All-Pro wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald has a bruised bone and a sprained right knee, leaving his status uncertain for the Cardinals' game Sunday at Detroit. The Cardinals said an MRI on Tuesday determined the extent of the injury but showed no more significant damage. Fitzgerald said on Twitter on Monday night that he was "sore but OK." Asked again on Tuesday, he answered he was "sore but straight."
Analysis: There's some doubt over whether or not he'll play at Detroit in Week 15. Moreover, the Cardinals might choose to rest him figuring that they can beat the Lions without him. If he's out, Steve Breaston would emerge as an excellent replacement for him in Fantasy play. We'll keep you posted all week.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston saw an early reception but finished the Week 14 Monday night loss to the 49ers with only one catch on the game. It went for 15 yards.
Analysis: Breaston did nothing against the Vikings in Week 13 also and hasnt played well since making four grabs for 79 yards and a score Week 10 against Seattle. Breaston is still the third option, at best, behind Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin in Arizona and that makes him just a low-end Fantasy option. The Cardinals play at Detroit in Week 15 and the Lions are the absolute worst pass defense in the NFL. This raises his Fantasy value but hes still just a last-resort or injury-replacement option in Fantasy play.
News: In the Cardinals' Week 13 win at home vs. the Vikings, WR Steve Breaston struggled to post relevant stats for the third straight week, catching an 8-yard pass and rushing once for 19 yards. Breaston has 53 total yards on offense over his last three games. He did contribute on special teams, returning a punt 64 yards to set up a Cardinals touchdown in the first half.
Analysis: Breaston has cooled considerably and isn't worth starting in Week 14 at San Francisco. True, the 49ers are awful against the pass, but Breaston is taking a backseat to Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald statistically. Consider other options before going with Breaston in his upcoming matchup.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston, who went without a catch last week when QB Kurt Warner missed the second half with concussion-like symptoms, had four catches for only 26 yards Week 12 at Tennessee. Warner missed the entire game.
Analysis: Breaston was consistently picking up 50-80 yards through the air before Warner got hurt, so you have to think the change at quarterback has a lot to do with his recent struggles. Warner almost played this week, so he'll likely return Week 13 against the Vikings. Think of Breaston as a No. 3 Fantasy WR for that matchup.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston, on the injury report this week with the same knee injury as always, is active for Week 12 at Tennessee. He hasn't missed a game since Week 1.
Analysis: Breaston didn't have a single catch last week and might continue to struggle with Matt Leinart starting in place of Kurt Warner. He's normally worth starting as a No. 2 or 3 WR in Fantasy since the Cardinals pass so much, but he's a low-end No. 3 this week.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston has been listed as probable for the team's Week 12 game at Tennessee with a knee injury. This isn't the first or 10th time this season he's been on the practice report as he's dealt with this knee issue, and played through it, all year.
Analysis: Breaston didn't make a single Week 11 catch after scoring touchdowns in his previous two games. If you own Breaston, his performance was probably just one of those things and not any real reason for concern. He's still the third receiving option on one of the most prolific passing offenses in football. Consider Breaston a No. 3 Fantasy WR for the Week 12 game at Tennessee.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston, who entered the game with touchdowns in each of his last two, didn't have a single reception Week 11 at St. Louis. The Cardinals didn't pass much in the second half, though, when Matt Leinart replaced an injured Kurt Warner under center.
Analysis: Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin seemed to get all the looks in the first half, and the Cardinals went on autopilot in the second half, interested only in running out the clock. If you own Breaston, his performance was probably just one of those things and not any real reason for concern. He's still the third receiving option on one of the most prolific passing offenses in football. Warner thinks he should be fine for Week 12 at Tennessee, so consider Breaston a No. 3 Fantasy WR for that matchup.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston, limited in practice all week by the same knee injury that has bothered him all season, is active for Week 11 at St. Louis. He hasn't missed a game since Week 1.
Analysis: Breaston had nine catches for 129 yards in two games against the Rams last season. He's a No. 3 WR in Fantasy even though he's the third receiver for the Cardinals. With this matchup, he might perform more like a No. 2.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) is listed as probable for Week 11 at St. Louis. He was limited practice all week by the injury.
Analysis: Breaston had nine catches for 129 yards in two games against the Rams last season. Start him as no worse than a No. 3 Fantasy WR. Expect him to be active for Week 11.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston totaled four catches for 79 yards and one touchdown during a Week 10 win against the Seahawks. Breaston got Arizona's first score on a 28-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter. In two games against Seattle this season, Breaston totaled 11 catches for 156 yards and two touchdowns.
Analysis: Breaston would have had a third score against Seattle had a holding penalty not negated a touchdown in the second quarter Week 10. Breaston probably wishes he could face Seattle every game since he does so well against them. The Cardinals are moving on to St. Louis in Week 11. Breaston had nine catches for 129 yards in two games against the Rams last season. Start him as no worse than a No. 3 Fantasy WR.
News: Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin (ankle) and WR Steve Breaston (knee) are both active for Week 10 vs. Seattle. Both players were listed as probable on the injury report.
Analysis: There was little doubt either player wouldn't be dressed for Week 10. Boldin was out in Week 9 because of the ankle injury, but he has been itching to play. Start Boldin as a No. 2 Fantasy WR and Breaston as a No. 3 WR.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) is listed as probable for Week 10 vs. Seattle. He took limited practice reps all week, which is a regular routine so Breaston is ready to play by the weekend.
Analysis: Breaston hasn't missed a game since the opener, so the new practice regimen is working. He had seven catches for 77 yards and one score in his first game against Seattle. Make sure to start Breaston as a No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) went through limited practice reps on Wednesday and Thursday as the team prepares for Week 10 vs. Seattle. Breaston, who usually takes it easy during the week, had five catches for 66 yards and one touchdown in Week 9 against Chicago.
Analysis: Breaston took advantage of Anquan Boldin sitting out Week 9 with an ankle injury. Boldin is expected back in Week 10, but we still see Breaston having a good game since Seattle has a middle of the road pass defense. Breaston already had seven catches for 77 yards and a score against Seattle earlier this season. Make sure to start him as a No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston had a solid game in Week 9 at Chicago, owning a 25-yard rush and catching five passes for 66 yards with a four-yard touchdown.
Analysis: This was Breaston's best game of the season, and he'll surely have the chance to do as well in Week 10 against the Seahawks, the last team he scored against before Week 9. Consider him a No. 3 Fantasy WR in his next matchup.
News: Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin (ankle) was inactivated for Week 9 at Chicago. He had been listed as questionable on the injury report. Steve Breaston was listed as starter in his place.
Analysis: Fantasy owners will have to hope that Boldin can return for Week 10 against Seattle, but clearly he has to be reserved in all leagues until the Cardinals declare him fit to play. When healthy, he remains a must-start receiver in all leagues, but he's not healthy at the moment. Breaston emerges as a solid No. 3 WR option with this news.
News: The Cardinals liste WR Steve Breaston as probable for Week 9 at Chicago as he continues to practice with a knee injury. He's expected to be fine for the game, however as he hasn't missed a game since Week 1 and has at least four catches in all but one game this season.
Analysis: Breaston's value will hinge on whether or not teammate Anquan Boldin plays -- if Boldin is in, and he practiced late this week, then Breaston's touches would drop. If Boldin is out, then Breaston would be a No. 2 Fantasy WR. Keep tabs on this situation since it would definitely hinder Breaston if Boldin was active. We'll know more on Sunday.
News: As we've seen from him in recent weeks, Cardinals WR Steve Breaston was limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday with a knee injury that's been plaguing him for a while. He hasn't missed a game since Week 1 and has at least four catches in all but one game this season.
Analysis: Expect Breaston to play, and potentially play well as teammate Anquan Boldin seems iffy to see the field. Consider Breaston a top-end No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 9 action.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston, who had only one catch for 23 yards last week, rebounded somewhat Week 8 against the Panthers. His 57 yards receiving was still his second-lowest single-game total of the season, but he did have six catches.
Analysis: Even though Breaston is the No. 3 WR for the Cardinals, he's a consistent part of the offense. Still, he's not the team's best red-zone target, which explains him having just one touchdown on the year, so treat him as a No. 3 Fantasy WR at Chicago in Week 9.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston, on the injury report with the same knee injury that has bothered him all season, is active for Week 8 against the Panthers.
Analysis: Breaston missed only the season opener with the injury, so you could have pretty much assumed he would play. Even though Breaston is the No. 3 WR for the Cardinals, he's a consistent part of the offense and worth starting as a No. 2 or 3 WR in Fantasy.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston was limited in practice with a knee injury all week as the team prepares for its Week 8 game against the Panthers. Breaston is considered probable for the contest.
Analysis: The injury has bothered Breaston all season, but he has been active the past four games. Look for Breaston to bounce back in Week 8 against Carolina after a poor outing in Week 7 against the Giants. He should be considered a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option for that contest.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston had one catch for 23 yards Sunday at the Giants. This was Breaston's worst game of the season, and he played despite being listed on the injury report with a bad knee.
Analysis: The injury has bothered Breaston all season, but he has been active the past four games. He was coming off a big game against the Seahawks in Week 6 with seven catches for 77 yards and a touchdown, and we expected him to play better against the Giants with Anquan Boldin (ankle) less than 100 percent. Look for Breaston to bounce back in Week 8 against Carolina, and consider him a low-end No. 2 Fantasy WR.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston (knee) is active for the Week 7 Sunday night game at the Giants.
Analysis: Breaston will likely remain on the weekly injury reports because of soreness in his knee but he should continue to play at a high level. Fantasy owners can keep him active as a No. 3 WR. Breaston made seven catches for 77 yards Week 6 against Seattle.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston (knee) was limited in practice all week as the team prepares for its Week 7 game at the Giants. He is considered questionable for the contest.
Analysis: Breaston came into Week 6 as questionable due to lingering knee soreness and Week 7 won't likely be any different. We expect to see Breaston on the injury report for as long as he feels soreness in his knee, but until he suffers a setback, Fantasy owners can keep him active as a No. 3 WR. Breaston made seven catches for 77 yards Week 6 against Seattle.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston contributed a touchdown catch during a 27-3 win against the Seahawks in Week 6. Breaston jumped higher than far smaller cornerback Kelly Jennings for a 16-yard touchdown pass from Kurt Warner to put Arizona up 24-3 late in the third quarter. Breaston finished with seven catches for 77 yards. His longest catch went 22 yards and he was targeted nine times.
Analysis: Breaston came into the game as questionable due to lingering knee soreness. However, he ended the game with no questions about his status. We expect to see Breaston on the injury report for as long as he feels soreness in his knee, but until he suffers a setback, Fantasy owners can keep him active as a No. 3 WR. The Cardinals play the Giants in Week 7.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) is active for Week 6 at Seattle. He was listed as questionable after limited reps all week.
Analysis: Breaston has been battling the knee injury all season but has been able to play for the most part. The Cardinals are limiting him in practice, so he is able to play on Sundays. Consider Breaston a No. 3 Fantasy WR.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston (knee) was limited in practice all week as the team prepares for its Week 6 game at Seattle. He is considered questionable for the contest.
Analysis: Breaston has been able to play in each of the past three games with the sore knee and there's little reason to believe that Week 6 will be any different. Breason took a small step back Week 5 with only four catches for 66 yards, but he remains a No. 3 Fantasy option at Seattle.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston, playing for a third straight game despite a sore knee, had four catches for 66 yards Week 5 against the Texans. Both represented season lows.
Analysis: If four catches and 66 yards are season lows for a player, that player must be doing something right. Breaston is technically the third receiver in Arizona, but he's constantly on the field and is only a step behind Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin in terms of Fantasy value. Keep him active as a No. 3 Fantasy WR at Seattle in Week 6.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston, limited in practice all week by the same knee injury that has bothered him since preseason, is active for a third straight game Week 5 against the Texans.
Analysis: Breaston is averaging six catches and 88.5 yards over his first two games, so he looks like a safe start for this week, especially since the matchup has the makings of a shootout. Get him active as a No. 3 WR in all Fantasy leagues.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston (knee) was limited in all week as the team prepares for its Week 5 game against the Texans. He is considered questionable for the contest.
Analysis: Breaston has played well in his first two starts after missing Week 1 with the knee injury. Expect Breason to be active Week 5 even if he's not completely healthy. Think of him as a No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 5 against the Texans.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston, who was listed on the injury report all week with a knee problem, looked fine Sunday against the Colts. He led the Cardinals with 94 receiving yards and was tied with Larry Fitzgerald with seven catches.
Analysis: Breaston now has two good games in a row after missing the season opener. He appears to have picked up where last season left off, and he's worth using as a No. 3 Fantasy option again. The Cardinals are off in Week 4 with their bye week but return in Week 5 against Houston. Let's hope Breaston keeps up his current pace.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) was not named among the inactives for Arizona's Week 3 game vs. Indianapolis.
Analysis: Breaston had a solid debut in Week 2 and could see plenty of targets among the Colts secondary that gave up a ton of catches and yards last week to Ted Ginn. Start him as a No. 3 Fantasy WR.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) is listed as questionable for Week 3 vs. Indianapolis, however, NFL.com reports he is expected to play Sunday. Breaston has been limited in practice.
Analysis: The Cards are listing Breaston as questionable as a precaution just in case he suffers a setback. Breaston finally made his debut in Week 2 against the Jaguars after sitting out Week 1. He had five catches for 83 yards. He seems healthy enough to play, so keep Breaston active as a No. 3 Fantasy WR in Week 3.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) did not practice Wednesday, but returned to limited reps Thursday as the team prepares Week 3 vs. Indianapolis. Breaston finally made his debut in Week 2 against the Jaguars after sitting out Week 1. He had five catches for 83 yards.
Analysis: The Cards are going to give Breaston time during the week to rest to limit his risk of re-injuring his knee. He seems healthy enough to play, so keep Breaston active as a No. 3 Fantasy WR in Week 3.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) did not practice Wednesday as the team prepares Week 3 vs.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston proved his leg is feeling fine as he led the Cardinals in receiving yards in Week 2's win over Jacksonville. Breaston hooked up with Kurt Warner for five catches and 83 yards. He did not score, however. Breaston made a long grab of 22 yards.
Analysis: Breaston was inactive for Week 1 with a leg injury but immediately made a difference in the passing game Week 2. With the Jaguars focusing on stopping Larry Fitzgerald, Breaston was able to get open often. Breaston was a 1,000-yard receiver in 2008, so even with Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin on the field, the former Michigan standout is still a big part of the offense. Breaston is a No. 3 Fantasy WR in standard leagues for Week 3 at home against the Colts.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston (knee) has been activated and is ready to play in Week 2's game at Jacksonville.
Analysis: Breaston was a 1,000-yard receiver in 2008, so even with Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin on the field, the former Michigan standout is still a big part of the offense. Perhaps if he was around in Week 1, the Cards would have taken care of business against the 49ers. When healthy, Breaston is a No. 3 Fantasy WR in standard leagues. He should be a decent third WR option against a weak passing defense in the Jaguars.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston was able to practice in a limited fashion on Thursday and Friday after missing practice on Wednesday. He is considered questionable for the team's Week 1 game at Jacksonville.
Continue to track his progress leading up to Week 2's game against Jacksonville on Sunday.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) did not practice Wednesday as the team prepares for Week 2 at Jacksonville. He missed the opener against the 49ers and his absence was felt. "What Steve does is so unique," wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald said. "You can line him up anywhere and Steve's going to be able to beat big guys on one-on-one coverage when Q (Anquan Boldin) and I are both in there."
Analysis: Breaston was a 1,000-yard receiver in 2008, so even with Fitz and Q on the field, the former Michigan standout is still a big part of the offense. Perhaps if he was around in Week 1, the Cards would have taken care of business against the 49ers. When healthy, Breaston is a No. 3 Fantasy WR in standard leagues. Continue to track his progress leading up to Week 2.
News: Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said WR Steve Breaston missed Sunday's game against San Francisco because his knee was aching. The team will continue to monitor him, but Breaston felt much better Monday. Whisenhunt also said WR Anquan Boldin (hamstring) suffered no setbacks in Sunday's game.
Analysis: We'll see if Breaston can get in there for Week 2 at Jacksonville. Keep an eye on his status and see what happens during the week. When healthy, Breaston is a No. 3 Fantasy WR in standard leagues.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston, who practiced in full all week despite a bruised kneecap, is a surprise inactive for Week 1 against the 49ers. Anquan Boldin, who was questionable with a hamstring injury, is active.
Analysis: Interesting. Breaston looked like the safer start of the two and perhaps even the beneficiary of Boldin's absence, but you'll obviously want to reserve him now if you own him in Fantasy. When healthy, he's a viable Fantasy option as the third receiver on a pass-heavy Cardinals offense. The Cardinals visit the Jaguars in Week 2.
News: ESPN is reporting that Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin (hamstring) is unlikely to play in Arizona's Week 1 game vs. San Francisco. If Boldin can't go, WR Steve Breaston will move up to the No. 2 WR spot behind WR Larry Fitzgerald.
Analysis: Breaston is nursing a bit of a knee injury himself, but should be good to go against the 49ers. Hopefully he can take full advantage of his extra snaps and targets and is definitely a nice sleeper option in deeper leagues for Week 1.
News:The Arizona Republic reports that Anquan Boldin's availability for Week 1 against San Francisco will not be determined until pregame warmups. "It's improving every day," Boldin said of his right-hamstring injury. Boldin's availability will have an impact on who returns punts and kicks Sunday.
Analysis: If Boldin can play his usual amount, Steve Breaston, the third receiver, would return punts and possibly kicks. But if Boldin is limited or can't play, that means Breaston will take more snaps on offense. If that happens, Antrel Rolle could return punts, and LaRod Stephens-Howling could return kicks. Breaston (knee) is listed as probable for Week 1 vs. San Francisco. He has practiced in full all week. Breaston is a No. 3 Fantasy WR if Boldin is healthy. If not, Breaston might be considered a No. 2 option. Breaston had 10 catches for 178 yards in two games against San Francisco last year.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) is listed as probable for Week 1 vs. San Francisco. He has practiced in full all week.
Analysis: Not only is Breaston ready for Week 1, but he might start opposite Larry Fitzgerald if Anquan Boldin is not recovered from a hamstring injury. Breaston is a No. 3 Fantasy WR if Boldin is healthy. If not, Breaston might be considered a No. 2 option. Breaston had 10 catches for 178 yards in two games against San Francisco last year.
News:Steve Breaston, who is recovering from a bruised kneecap, participated fully in practice Thursday. He is expected to play in Week 1 against San Francisco.
Analysis: Breaston says he is still not 100 percent recovered from a bruised kneecap, but he will give it a go on Sunday afternoon. There seem to be plenty of receptions to go around in Arizona's high-octane offense. Boldin is battling a hamstring injury, but it seems he will be ready Sunday as well. Consider Breaston at best a No. 3 Fantasy WR Week 1. Breaston had 10 catches for 178 yards in two games against San Francisco last year.
News: Cardinals wide receiver Steve Breaston says he is still not 100 percent recovered from a bruised kneecap, but is expected to play Sunday against the 49ers. He went through a full practice Wednesday.
Analysis: Even though Breaston is behind Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin on the depth chart, he still managed to break 1,000 yards last season.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) was in the starting lineup for Thursday's preseason finale against the Broncos but did not record a stat. Breaston had five catches for 52 yards in the preseason.
Analysis: Breaston finally appears past his sprained knee and ready for the start of the season. He might be third on the depth chart, but in Arizona's high-octane offense, Breaston is still a threat in Fantasy. Breaston is a decent low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR. The Cardinals play the 49ers Week 1. Breaston had 10 catches for 178 yards and no touchdowns in two games against the 49ers last season.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston did not play in Friday's preseason game against the Packers due to a knee injury. He has been slowed by a knee injury in practice and remains a question mark for the team's final preseason game at Denver on Thursday.
Analysis: Breaston sprained his knee in the preseason opener and has sat out the next two games. Don't be surprised to sit out the final preseason game as well but he should be fine for the start of the regular season. Breaston is the No. 3 WR in Arizona but is still expected to get plenty of looks in 2009. Consider him a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR on Draft Day.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston (knee) continues to sit out practice for the Cardinals, reports AZCardinals.com. Breaston is making progress, said coach Ken Whisenhunt. The team will be careful with him before getting back into practices so he doesn't have a setback.
Analysis: Breaston sprained his knee in the preseason opener. He is expected to have a very nice season as the No. 3 receiver behind Pro Bowlers Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin, when healthy. Breaston is a question mark for the start of the season but the Cardinals seem confident he'll be ready by the first regular season game. He's considered a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR despite being behind two Pro Bowl receivers, worth a middle- to late-round pick.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (knee) was inactive for Saturday's preseason loss to the Chargers.
Analysis: Breaston, who sprained his knee in the preseason opener, is the No. 3 receiver behind Pro Bowlers Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin when healthy. While he really made an impact with Fantasy owners last season, many of his big stats came when Boldin was hurt and he filled in for him. Breaston is a question mark for the start of the season but shouldn't miss many regular season games so long as he takes his time coming back from the injury. He's considered a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR despite being behind two Pro Bowl receivers, worth a middle- to late-round pick.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston sprained his right knee in the team's first preseason game and hasn't practiced since. He is expected to miss the team's second preseason game against the Chargers this weekend.
Analysis: Breaston is the No.
News: Cardinals wide receiver Steve Breaston sat out Sunday's practice after injuring his right knee in last Thursday's 20-10 loss to the Steelers in a Super Bowl rematch in Pittsburgh. Breaston has a sprain, "but that's not really the thing that's causing the issues," head coach Whisenhunt said. "He's got a bone bruise from where he fell on it," Whisenhunt said. "Just the swelling from the bruise is his knee is what's causing the issue, so it's really just a day-to-day thing. As soon as we can get the swelling out of it, he should be OK."
Analysis: Breaston is the No. 3 receiver behind Pro Bowlers Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. He also returns punts and kickoffs. Whisenhunt would not rule him out of the San Diego preseason game Saturday. It seems Breaston dodged a serious injury, so don't completely take him off your draft board. The Cardinals offense is such a dynamic passing attack that Breaston still passes as a No. 3 Fantasy WR despite being behind two Pro Bowl receivers.
News: Arizona wide receiver Steve Breaston was to undergo a precautionary MRI because of soreness and stiffness in his knee.
Analysis: Breaston is expected to again be the Cardinals' No. 3 WR this season although he certainly has the talent to be more. Breaston should have another solid season in 2009 but TDs will continue to be limited for him. Think of him as a No. 3 Fantasy WR worth a pick between Rounds 7 and 9, assuming his knee injury is not serious. Monitor his status through the preseason before making a decision on him on Draft Day.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breason recorded the highest number of receiving yards on Thursday in the team's first preseason game against the Steelers. He caught five passes for a total of 52 yards with a long of 14 yards.
Analysis: Breaston will again be the Cardinals' No. 3 WR this season although he certainly has the talent to be more. Breaston should have another solid season in 2009 but TDs will continue to be limited for him. Think of him as a No. 3 Fantasy WR worth a pick between Rounds 7 and 9 on Draft Day.
News: As Anquan Boldin stays away in a contract dispute, Steve Breaston has confidently moved up to the No. 2 wide receiver spot for the Cardinals. Breaston knows how important these spring and summer practices can be. It was a year ago that Breaston opened the eyes of coaches with his talent and effort. The speedy receiver went on to become Arizona's third 1,000-yard receiver in 2008, catching 77 passes for 1,006 yards, an average of 13.1 yards per catch. Breaston has worked with the first-team offense so far this offseason and is glad to have his coaches' trust and to prove the naysayers wrong. "I told a lot of people that once I left my school there was a big cloud lifted," Breaston said. "What they said back in college or what I did in college, it doesn't determine where I'm going or what I'm going to do in this league. When I got here, I had a chip on my shoulder but the cloud was gone. No matter what people say, they can't determine the outcome I will have in the NFL."
Analysis: Breaston's best numbers last year came when Boldin was hurt -- in four games without Boldin, he totaled 22 catches for 276 yards and two touchdowns. However, Breaston also had eight games with at least six receptions, and only two of those games came without Boldin. We think Breaston will continue to be effective, but touchdowns will come on a limited basis, and it does help that he'll be a restricted free agent after this season, his third in the NFL, so motivation shouldn't be a problem. You can still consider him a No. 3 Fantasy WR worth a pick between Rounds 7 and 9 in drafts this summer.
News: In the Cardinals' 27-23 loss to the Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII, WR Steve Breaston caught six passes for 71 yards.
Analysis: Breaston's breakout season with the Cardinals saw him catch 77 passes for 1,006 yards (13.1 avg.) with a trio of 100-yard games. He also scored three times. Breaston filled in admirably for Anquan Boldin during the year and might elevate into a No. 2 receiver for the Cards if the club deals Boldin this offseason. He'll be a third-year WR in '09 and should be nearly as effective as he was this season, and then he'll be a restricted free agent after next season. Suffice to say, there's a lot to like about Breaston judging by his status -- consider him a sleeper in 2009 worth a middle- to late-round pick in drafts.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston was limited to only one catch that went for 10 yards in Sunday's NFC Championship Game. Most of the passes Kurt Warner threw went to Larry Fitzgerald who had a huge game, scoring three touchdowns on nine catches.
Analysis: Breaston's role in the Cardinals' offense has diminished a great deal with Fitzgerald having one of the best-ever performances by a receiver in a postseason. Breaston will likely have a tough time against the Steelers' top-notch defense as well in the Super Bowl.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston was thrust into a starting role in Saturday's Divisional Playoff game at Carolina and made only four grabs for 28 yards in the game. His longest catch went for 12 yards as he failed to get into the end zone.
Analysis: Breaston has not been a featured target in the Cardinals' offense in two postseason games so far after going for more than 1,000 receiving yards in the regular season on 77 catches. Hopefully the Cards will get him more involved in the NFC Championship game, especially if Boldin sits out once again.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston caught two passes for 39 yards Saturday in a Wild Card playoff game against the Falcons. He had only one reception for six yards in the season finale.
Analysis: Breaston is the Cardinals' third wide receiver, but he made 77 catches for 1,006 yards during the regular season. Of course, he benefited from some extra playing time when Anquan Boldin got injured, but his production didn't decrease much with Boldin in the lineup. He can serve as a No. 2 Fantasy WR in playoff formats, but the law of averages says his production will have to decrease some next year unless he gets a chance to move up the depth chart.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston had five catches and 91 yards in Week 17 against Seattle, starting in place of injured Anquan Boldin. He caught a 14-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter.
Analysis: Kurt Warner bounced back from a slow week in New England to throw four touchdown passes and did so even without one of his favorite receivers. Boldin should return next week for the playoff game against Atlanta, but Breaston will have some appeal in playoff leagues as a No. 3 receiver because the Cardinals throw the ball so well. Breaston finished the year with over 1,000 receiving yards and 77 catches. That's not too shabby for a third receiver.
News: The Cardinals made WR Anquan Boldin inactive for their Week 17 game vs. Seattle as he continues to be hampered by a shoulder injury. Steve Breaston will start in his place. The club had hoped that Boldin would play a few snaps, but they're obviously going to keep him rested so that he can play in their home playoff game next week.
Analysis: Boldin should be reserved in all Fantasy leagues this week, while Breaston would be an excellent replacement. If you're looking for a last-ditch option, check the waiver wire for veteran WR Jerheme Urban as he might wind up playing the whole game (remember, the Cardinals have their playoff spot clinched and could rest their starters by the second half).
News: Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said Monday that the team's primary players will see lots of playing time vs. Seattle in Week 17. That's good news for Steve Breaston, who probably would have seen playing time regardless of what Whisenhunt decided since he's not a bona fide first-string player. Moreover, the club is hoping to get WR Anquan Boldin back for the game, which would dig into Breaston's playing time. Either way, we know the Cardinals will play as usual. Whisenhunt wants to end the regular season strong so that the Cardinals have some momentum heading into the playoffs. "We've worked hard to create something here, to gain the trust of a lot of our fans," Whisenhunt said, "and we feel like we've let them down the last two weeks because of what's happened here in the past."
Analysis: While we can't be sure that he'll be in on every single play against the Seahawks, chances are we'll see enough of Breaston where he'll get his fair share of stats. He remains a No. 3 Fantasy WR for his next game.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston started for the injured Anquan Boldin (shoulder) Sunday at New England but was held to one catch for 6 yards in the snow.
Analysis: The entire Cardinals offense struggled in the snow against the Patriots. Look for Breaston to bounce back in Week 17 against Seattle. Breaston had two catches for 15 yards against the Seahawks earlier this year but should play better in Week 17.
News: Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin will miss Sunday's game at New England with a shoulder injury. He had been limited in practice all week and missed practice Friday. The Cardinals have clinched a playoff spot, so this was probably a precautionary move.
Analysis: Keep Boldin reserved for Week 16 and hope he is OK for Week 17. Steve Breaston will start for Boldin and is worth using as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy WR.
News: Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin did not practice on Friday as he continues to be on the mend from a shoulder problem that's hampered him all week. The team has listed him as questionable for Week 16 at New England, and the official team web site says Boldin will be a game-time decision. Coach Ken Whisenhunt has already said that if Boldin isn't ready to play that he would hold him out. Steve Breaston would start in his place if Boldin can't go.
Analysis: Breaston is a terrific young receiver, and he's proven to do well in place of Boldin in the past, but the weather in New England on Sunday is expected to be very bad (wind, rain and snow). Such weather could severely impact a passing game, and we recently uncovered just how bad opposing teams play at New England in those kinds of conditions. If you wake up Sunday and see poor weather at Gillette Stadium, you may want to consider other options instead of Breaston. We'll know what the weather will be and tell you about it on Sunday morning. If the weather is fair and Breaston starts, we like him a lot as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy WR.
News: Arizona WR Anquan Boldin could be sidelined for Sunday's game at New England. Boldin, named to the Pro Bowl for a third time on Tuesday, has a shoulder injury. He sat out practice Wednesday and Thursday. Coach Ken Whisenhunt said he would take a conservative approach with Boldin. If Boldin can't play, Steve Breaston will move into a starting spot with Jerheme Urban moving to the No. 3 receiver spot. Rookie Early Doucet also could see some playing time at the wide receiver position.
Analysis: Keep an eye on what happens with Boldin. The Cardinals are fighting for the No. 3 seed in the NFC playoffs but this game has little impact on their playoff fate since they already clinced a spot. If Boldin is out, Breaston would be considered a low-end No. 2 Fantasy WR, and Urban could be used in deeper formats. Doucet likely won't see enough catches to help your team.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston caught four passes for 46 yards in Week 15 against Minnesota. His longest catch went for 19 yards.
Analysis: Breaston was thrown to nine times in the game. The Cardinals threw the ball 50 times in the game and had no running game to speak of. Breaston remains the third option behind Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald, but that is not a bad place to be in what is usually a high-powered air game. The Cards have another tough matchup in New England in Week 16, though, and Breaston should be viewed as a low-end No. 3 receiver for leagues of 12-plus teams.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (ribs) was listed among the active players for Week 15 against Minnesota. He had been listed as questionable on the injury report.
Analysis: Breaston finds himself open a lot because Boldin and Fitzgerald garner so much attention. He continues to get his catches, but has only found the end zone twice. He's currently a No. 3 Fantasy receiver or 'flex' for Week 15 against the Vikings.
News: WR Steve Breaston is questionable for Week 15 with a rib injury sustained in the first half of Week 14's game against the Rams.
Analysis: Allen is tied for fourth in the league with 12 1/2 sacks. He said his knee is still sore from a low block he took from Lions offensive lineman Gosder Cherilus, but is hoping to play Sunday against Arizona. Allen is a No. 1 Fantasy IDP player and a must-start in Fantasy in Week 15 at Arizona if healthy.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston was limited in practice with a rib injury on Wednesday. He left Week 14's game against the Rams with the injury, but returned. Breaston led the Cardinals in receiving yards and receptions in Week 14. Most of his yards came on a 58-yard connection from Warner. Breaston now has 67 catches on the season despite sharing catches wit Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin.
Analysis: Breaston finds himself open a lot because Boldin and Fitzgerald garner so much attention. He continues to get his catches, but has only found the end zone twice. He's currently a No. 3 Fantasy receiver for Week 15 against the Vikings.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston led the Cardinals in receiving yards and receptions in Week 14 against the Rams.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston, who has 60 catches for 673 yards, faces the Rams in Week 14 for the second time this season. In the previous meeting in Week 9 he was limited to two catches for 39 yards.
Analysis: Breaston is capable of disappearing like this because the Cardinals feature two of the best wide receivers in the NFL in Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald. Still, Breaston is worth starting as a No. 3 Fantasy WR against the Rams, who are No. 22 in pass defense with 16 touchdowns allowed.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston recorded his first touchdown reception in six games Week 13 at Philadelphia, connecting with QB Kurt Warner on a six-yard toss in the third quarter. He finished with six receptions for 45 yards.
Analysis: Breaston's production has tailed off as expected since Anquan Boldin returned from his concussion, but he has still averaged 67.5 receiving yards over his last four games. He remains the most valuable No. 3 WR in the NFL and a No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 14 against the Rams.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston caught six passes for 86 yards in Week 12 against the Giants. He also rushed once for four yards.
Analysis: Breaston is the third receiving option for the Cardinals, but it's a high-powered offense that has allowed him to be a very viable Fantasy option at times this season. He has seven or more catches in five of his last eight games. He should be viewed as a No. 3 receiver in leagues of 12-plus teams for Week 13 at Philadelphia.
News: The New York Post reports the Giants are concerned about stopping the Cardinals receivers in Week 12 at Arizona. Larry Fitzgerald has 67 receptions for 939 yards and six touchdowns. Boldin has 62 receptions for 792 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Cardinals are the league's second-ranked passing attack, and Kurt Warner is the top-rated quarterback in the NFL with 20 touchdown passes and only seven interceptions. "It's going to be our biggest challenge, I believe," safety Kenny Phillips said. "Kurt Warner is playing like the MVP of the league, they got some great weapons, we definitely got our hands full." Arizona's passing game also includes Steve Breaston, who 48 receptions for 642 yards.
Analysis: Look for Fitzgerald and Boldin to remain hot even though the Giants are No. 2 in pass defense with 174.8 passing yards allowed, 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. The Cardinals will continue to throw, so the receivers will likely get their chances to make plays. And Breaston is always worth using as a flex option with the Cardinals passing attack at such a high level. Expect another good game from the Cardinals this week.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston was held to just two catches for 15 yards during a Week 11 win against the Seahawks. He was targeted just three times in the game and his longest catch went nine yards.
Analysis: Breaston was coming off a 100-yard game against San Francisco and has been outstanding as of late. The matchup against Seattle -- one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL -- was tailor made for Breaston to have a big game. Well, it turned out that Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald got most of the looks as the duo combined for 23 catches and 337 yards. Breaston has emerged as a viable No. 3 Fantasy WR, so it was real disappointing to see him struggle Week 11. He might have another tough game Week 12 against the Giants, so consider benching him in Fantasy.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston led the team with seven catches for 121 yards during a Week 10 win against the 49ers. Breaston's longest catch went 46 yards and he was targeted nine times by QB Kurt Warner. Breaston has seven or more catches in five of his last six games and has three 100-yard games in that span.
Analysis: Don't look now folks but the Cardinals have another top wide receiver behind Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald. Arizona throws the ball so much that even Breaston as a third wide receiver has better stats than some starters around the NFL. If you look at his recent track record, Breaston has developed into a nice No. 3 Fantasy WR heading into Week 11 against the Seahawks.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston, who had four straight games of over seven catches and 75 yards coming into Week 9, was limited to two catches for 39 yards in a win over the Rams.
Analysis: Breaston was one of the NFL's hottest WRs in October, but he is going to have games like this now and again as a third receiver now Anquan Boldin is back. Continue to consider Breaston a No. 3 Fantasy WR in Week 10 against the 49ers.
News:Anquan Boldin returned for the Cardinals on Sunday at Carolina, but Steve Breaston still played well with nine catches for 91 yards. Breaston has clearly established himself as the No. 3 WR in this offense behind Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald.
Analysis: Breaston now has 33 catches for 392 yards in his past four games. He is still worth using as a No. 3 Fantasy WR in all leagues for Week 9 at St. Louis.
News: We know you're probably going to start Cardinals WR Steve Breaston on your Fantasy team this week (especially if he's going in place of Anquan Boldin), but be ready for a possible let down. He's flying east to play a Panthers defense that shocked the Saints a week earlier and held them to well under 250 yards passing. Carolina ranks second vs. the pass (five pass TDs allowed all season) and has yet to allow a 100-yard receiver all season.
Analysis: Breaston has been too good to sit during his duty filling in for Anquan Boldin. If Boldin's back, though, Breaston won't be as good. Without Boldin, we can't see sitting him in most circumstances even with the suspect matchup. If there's one thing we know about the Cardinals, it's that they will throw the football. Consider Breaston a quality No. 3 Fantasy WR.
News: For the second straight week filling in for the injured Anquan Boldin (head), Cardinals WR Steve Breaston led his team both in receptions (eight) and receiving yards (102) Week 6 against the Cowboys. He also scored the first receiving touchdown of his career, catching an 11-yard strike from QB Kurt Warner in the fourth quarter.
Analysis: Breaston has 24 receptions for 301 yards since taking over for Boldin midway through Week 4, so if you picked up Breaston as a stopgap, your Fantasy team didn't miss a beat. Unfortunately for those owners who don't own both, Boldin figures to return after the Cardinals' bye in Week 7. Barring the unexpected, plan to bench Breaston for Week 8 at Carolina. Don't cut him just yet, though. He might still have an impact as the team's third receiver.
News: Arizona Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin is out for Sunday's matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, according to The Sports Network. Boldin underwent surgery on a fractured facial bone last Thursday after he suffered a helmet-to-helmet hit on September 28 against the New York Jets. "He's just not quite ready", said Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt. Steve Breaston will replace Boldin in the lineup.
Analysis: The Cardinals have a bye Week 7, so it makes a lot of sense for them to sit Boldin until Week 8 and make sure he is at 100 percent healthy. Boldin is now someone to avoid in Week 6. Breaston automatically becomes a better option in the Cardinals' pass-heavy offense.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston, filling in for Anquan Boldin (concussion), led his team with 77 receiving yards Week 5 against the Bills and tied for the team lead with seven receptions. He caught nine passes for 122 yards after Boldin left in Week 4.
Analysis: Breaston looks like he'll take Boldin's place both on the field and in the box score. Boldin had surgery to repair a fracture in his face, so as long as he remains sidelined Week 6 against the Cowboys -- and he likely will -- get Breaston active as a No. 2 or 3 Fantasy WR.
News: Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin (head, sinus) has been ruled out for Week 5 vs. Buffalo. NFL.com reports that Boldin underwent surgery Thursday to repair the sinus fracture caused by a helmet-to-helmet hit Week 4 against the Jets. "They thought it was best to go ahead and do it and in order to get (Anquan) back as quickly as possible," head coach Ken Whisenhunt said, adding the doctor told Boldin a hockey player who had the same procedure played in a game 10 days later. Steve Breaston will replace Boldin and start opposite Larry Fitzgerald. "This is just like any other week for me, to be honest," Breaston said. "When the ball comes my way, I have to make a play, be a reliable resource for Kurt (Warner)."
Analysis: Breaston had a career-high nine catches for 122 yards in a Week 4 loss to the Jets. The Cardinals had to throw the ball a lot since they were down 30-plus points at the half. Breaston could see a fair amount of passes come his way Week 5 as teams try to take Fitzgerald out of the gameplan. Consider Breaston a nice Fantasy sleeper Week 5.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston will benefit from teammate Anquan Boldin being out for Week 5 against the Bills. Breaston caught nine passes for 122 yards in Week 4's crazy game against the Jets. That came after he caught just four passes for 72 yards over the season's first three games. Week 5 is his biggest opportunity yet to prove himself at the position he loves. "It means a lot. I really feel that receiver is my primary position," Breaston said after Thursday's practice. "I just want to prove a lot of people wrong."
Analysis: The Bills are a far better defense against the pass than the Jets. In fact, they are 6th in the NFL in that category. Breaston still figures to see some balls come his way and will certainly be a recommended starter in Week 5, but don't expect anything near another 122 yards. Think more along the lines of 50-75 yards with the possibility of a score and treat Breaston as a high-end No. 3 Fantasy WR option.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston ended up tying Larry Fitzgerald for the team lead with 122 receiving yards during a Week 4 loss to the Jets. Breaston was second on the team with nine catches behind Anquan Boldin's 10. His longest reception went 37 yards and was targeted 13 times by QB Kurt Warner.
Analysis: Breaston by far had his career-best game against the Jets. However, the Cardinals were down by 34 points at the half and Breaston did most of his damage in the second half since Arizona had to throw the ball plenty. Still, the Cardinals received a bit of bad news at the end of the game when Boldin had to be carted off the field with a head injury. If he can't play Week 5 against the Bills, Breaston could be a Fantasy sleeper.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston did not catch a pass against the Redskins in Washington in Week 3. He did, however, return punts and kicks. He averaged 20.6 yards per kickoff return and 1.5 on punt returns.
Analysis: Breaston is a solid No. 3 WR for the Cardinals, but the problem is the two guys ahead of him are so good that Breaston won't get to put up many great numbers unless one of them gets hurt. Hold on to him in deeper leagues just in case he does get bumped up the depth chart, but don't start him in any format in Week 4 against the Jets.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston made one catch for 18 yards and rushed once for four yards in a Week 2 win over the Dolphins.
Analysis: Breaston is a solid No. 3 WR for the Cardinals, but the problem is the two guys ahead of him are so good that Breaston won't get to put up many great numbers unless one of them gets hurt. Hold on to him in deeper leagues just in case he does get bumped up the depth chart, but don't start him in any format in Week 3 when Arizona visits Washington.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston does it all. Against the 49ers in Week 1, Breaston caught passes, returned kicks and brought back punts. While he returned three kicks for an average of 13 yards and one punt for 17 yards, more importantly, he caught three passes for 54 yards. He hooked up with Kurt Warner early in the game for an impressive 40-yard catch in which he tiptoed down the sideline.
Analysis: Breaston had an excellent offseason and is a good complement to Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald. But until that towering twosome departs, consistent Fantasy numbers will evade Breaston. At best, he's worth holding over in the deepest of dynasty/keeper leagues that reward special teams yardage. This is probably one of the better games that Breaston will have because for some reason Boldin didn't record a catch in the first half. Don't start him in Week 2 against the Dolphins.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston, competing for the No. 3 WR job, is still going to be returning kickoffs and punts for the club, according to head coach Ken Whisenhunt. "If you have somebody who has the dynamic ability to be a threat in both areas, then obviously you want to give him a chance to have the ball in his hands," he said. "I don't anticipate the more he plays offensively will detract from that."
Analysis: Breaston had an excellent offseason and is a good complement to Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald. But until that towering twosome departs, consistent Fantasy numbers will evade Breaston. At best, he's worth holding over in the deepest of dynasty/keeper leagues that reward special teams yardage, or worth taking with a late-round pick in the deepest of Fantasy drafts this summer.
News: Arizona WR Steve Breaston looked very good in the preseason opener against New Orleans Thursday. Breaston, slated to be the team's No. 3 receiver, caught three passes for 50 yards with a long of 34. Breaston got open and ran with the ball after the catch to gain the long yardage play for the Cardinals.
Analysis: Breaston had an excellent offseason and is probably the fastest wideout on the roster. Until Anquan Boldin or Larry Fitzgerald leave town, though, consistent Fantasy numbers will evade him. At best, he's worth holding over in the deepest of dynasty/keeper leagues that reward special teams yardage, or worth taking with a late-round pick in deeper Fantasy drafts.
News:The Sports Xchange notes that Steve Breaston remains the favorite to win the No. 3 job in Arizona.
News: Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said in the Arizona Republic that he's impressed with WR Steve Breaston, who is competing to be the No. 3 option behind Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald. "What's so impressive about him is, from the moment we started minicamp, it was every day. He made plays every day," Whisenhunt said. "And when you see that, you start to associate him with some of the better players in the league." As a rookie out of Michigan last season, he proved remarkably durable and courageous on special teams. But Breaston wants to play more time at receiver, where his main competition will come from rookie Early Doucet. "That No. 3 spot is huge for us," Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart said. "And Steve had a great (spring). That was obvious."
Analysis: Breaston will compete for a more prominent role in the offense next summer, but until Anquan Boldin or Larry Fitzgerald leave town, consistent Fantasy numbers will evade him. At best, he's worth holding over in the deepest of dynasty/keeper leagues that reward special teams yardage, or worth taking with a late-round pick in deeper Fantasy drafts.
News: The Arizona Republic reports that Cardinals WR Steve Breaston has put on upper-body weight this offseason in an attempt to be more of a physical receiver. He's up to 190 pounds, five pounds heavier. Breaston is the odds-on favorite to be the No. 3 WR in the desert. "More than anybody from this team, I think Steve benefited from the off-season workouts here," teammate Larry Fitzgerald said. "It's really showing everyday. He's trying to expand his role from just being a special teams guy to helping us on the offensive side."
News: Cardinals rookie Steve Breaston caught eight passes for 92 yards and added 8 rush yards with no starts in 2007. Breaston was mainly used on special teams, returning 62 kickoffs and 42 punts, including a touchdown on a punt return.
Analysis: Breaston will compete for a more prominent role in the offense next summer, but until Anquan Boldin or Larry Fitzgerald leave the desert, consistent Fantasy numbers will evade him. At best, he's worth holding over in the deepest of dynasty/keeper leagues that reward special teams yardage.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston, RB Marcel Shipp, TE Tim Euhus, WR Sean Morey and backup QB Tim Rattay all dressed for Arizona's 30-27 overtime win over the Falcons in Week 16, but didn't record an offensive stat.
Analysis: None of these players have any Fantasy value at this time. Ignore them all in Week 17 against the Rams.
News: Cardinals return specialist Steve Breaston caught two passes for 16 yards and ran once for negative-two yards in Arizona's 31-24 loss to the Saints in Week 15.
Analysis: Breaston has worked his way into the Cardinals WR rotation a little more over the last three games, but has only eight catches over that span. He is not worth starting in any Fantasy leagues at the WR position until he gets more involved in the passing game. The Cardinals host the Falcons in Week 15.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston saw the first catches of his pro career Week 13 against the Browns and followed that performance by doubling his output Week 14 against the Seahawks. The rookie from Michigan had four catches for 52 yards, including a 22-yard catch. He had two catches for 24 yards Week 13.
Analysis: Breaston was back in the wide receiver mix with Anquan Boldin (toe) out of commission. The Cardinals are getting a good look at what the future might hold with Breaston, but he is still far more valuable as a kick returner. Keep him off Fantasy rosters Week 15 against the Saints.
News: Cardinals rookie WR Steve Breaston caught the first passes of his career during a Week 13 win against the Browns. Breaston caught two passes for 24 yards, including a 19-yard reception.
Analysis: Breaston, a rookie out of Michigan, had mostly seen time as a kick returner for the Cardinals before stepping onto the field as a receiver Week 13. The Cardinals wide receivers are a little banged up and that's why Breaston was pushed into action. Unless you hear he has been named a starter, he has little to no Fantasy value heading into Week 14 against the Seahawks.
News: 49ers RB Terrelle Smith, WR Steve Breaston and TE Troy Bienemann al dressed, but failed to record an offensive stat Week 12 against the 49ers.
Analysis: Most of these players have little to no real important offensive function for the Cardinals and can be left on Fantasy waivers at this time. The Cardinals play the Browns in Week 13.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston, RB Marcel Shipp, TE Troy Bienneman, WR Sean Morey and TE Ben Patrick all dressed for Arizona's Week 11 win over the Bengals, but didn't record an offensive stat.
Analysis: None of these players have any Fantasy value at this time and should be ignored in Week 12 when Arizona hosts San Francisco.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston had 138 total return yards on four punts and two kicks Week 10 against the Lions.
Analysis: Breaston has yet to catch a pass this season, so keep him on the waiver wire for Week 11 at Cincinnati.
News: WR Steve Breaston, TE Tim Euhus, WR Sean Morey and FB Terrelle Smith all dressed, but failed to record an offensive stat Week 9 at Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Most of these players serve as either blockers, play on special teams or just serve as fresh bodies for the Cardinals. Breaston is the Cardinals' punt returner. They have little to no Fantasy value at this time. The Cardinals host Detroit in Week 10.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston, RB Terrelle Smith, TE Troy Bienemann and TE Tim Euhus all dressed, but failed to record an offensive stat Week 7 against the Redskins.
Analysis: Most of these players serve as either blockers, play on special teams or just serve as fresh bodies for the Cardinals. They have little to no Fantasy value at this time. The Cardinals are on a bye in Week 8.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston (one carry for 10 yards) and RB Terrelle Smith (one carry, three yards and two catches, nine yards) each played a minor role in Arizona's 25-10 loss to the Panthers in Week 6.
Analysis: Neither of these players has any Fantasy value at this time.
News: Cardinals RB Terrelle Smith, WR Steve Breaston, TE Troy Bienemann, TE Tim Euhus and WR Sean Morey did not record an offensive stat in Week 5 at St. Louis.
Analysis: None of these players are in a position to help you in Fantasy play. Leave them on the waiver wire until further notice.
News: Cardinals WR Steve Breaston returned a punt 73 yards for a touchdown Week 4 against the Steelers. He finished with 156 total return yards.
Analysis: Breaston hasn't caught a pass on offense this season, so keep him on the waiver wire for Week 5 at the Rams.
News: Cardinals backup QB Kurt Warner, WR/KR Steve Breaston, RB Marcel Shipp and TE Tim Euhus did not record an offensive stat in Week 2 vs. Seattle.
Analysis: None of these players should be on your Fantasy roster at this time. They are not in a position to contribute.
News: Rookie WR/PR Steve Breaston, TE Tim Euhus, WR Sean Morey and FB Terrelle Smith all played in Week 1 at San Francisco, but they did not record any offensive statistics. Backup QB Kurt Warner also dressed, but he did not get into the game.
Analysis: None of the players mentioned above are worth using in any Fantasy leagues heading into Week 2 against the Seahawks.
News: The Cardinals reached a three-year contract agreement with fifth-round draft pick Steve Breaston on Tuesday. The wide receiver and kick returner from Michigan was the 142nd pick overall in this year's draft. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed. Breaston, an all-Big Ten selection as an all-purpose back in 2006, ranked third in the conference in punt returns and kick returns. He also caught 58 passes for 670 yards and two touchdowns as a senior.
Analysis: Breaston will be stuck behind Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin and Bryant Johnson on the Cardinals' depth chart. He'll be lucky to get 20 catches this season. Consider him only in rookie-only drafts this summer.
News: The Cardinals' 2007 draft class includes: Penn State OT Levi Brown, Michigan DT Alan Branch, FSU LB Buster Davis, Michigan WR Steve Breaston and Delaware TE Ben Patrick.
Analysis: Brown will help anchor the Cardinals' offensive line, while Breaston and Patrick will be reserve options offensively. Branch should be a key defensive tackle when he gets healthy, but Davis is a potential IDP sleeper. A leader for the Seminoles, his only knock is his height (5-foot-11) and his lack of explosion. He should rack up plenty of tackles once he cracks the starting lineup.
