News: NFL Films Senior Producer Greg Cosell said on the FantasyGuru.com podcast you can "take it to the bank" that Brandon Weeden will start for the Browns to begin the year. Weeden figures to have a jump on the starting job ahead of newcomer Jason Campbell.
Analysis: Coach Rob Chudzinski has spoken often about competition for the job but per the network he and offensive coordinator Norv Turner are more excited by Weeden's arm and ability to throw deep. Campbell shouldn't be drafted in Fantasy play and is a mediocre pickup off waivers in the event Weeden gets hurt.
News: While league sources told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that Jason Campbell will have a chance to start for the Browns, NFL Network reports that Brandon Weeden will be given the first crack at starting when the season opens. Coach Rob Chudzinski has spoken often about competition for the job but per the network he and offensive coordinator Norv Turner are more excited by Weeden's arm and ability to throw deep.
Analysis: Weeden has the make-up of the kind of quarterback offensive coordinator Norv Turner can work with but he is by no means the long-term solution for Cleveland. No one should draft Weeden outside of with a late pick in the deepest of leagues.
News: NFL.com reported Tuesday that the Browns have signed veteran quarterback Jason Campbell to a two-year contract. "Jason is an established leader who has started a number of games in this league and has had success," Browns coach Rob Chudzinski said in a statement released by the team. "He brings us a veteran presence and a good set of physical tools. He played in a similar system when he was in Oakland, and that will help in his transition." Campbell spent the 2012 season as the backup to Jay Cutler in Chicago, and will likely serve as the Browns' backup as well.
Analysis: The Browns invested a first-round pick in Brandon Weeden last offseason, but a new leadership coalition has his standing somewhat in doubt. Still, for a rebuilding team, the 29-year-old Weeden makes more sense than 31-year-old Campbell. Campbell has been solid at times in the past, but passed for just 107 yards in his lone start last season. The Browns have few weapons in the passing game of note, so Campbell likely has little Fantasy value for next season, even if he does somehow earn a starting job.
News: The Chicago Sun-Times reports the Bears have interest in bringing back quarterback Jason Campbell.
Analysis: Campbell was incredibly tough to watch in his lone start last season at San Francisco. In total he threw for 265 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions but there's no real appeal to him so long as he's behind Jay Cutler on the depth chart.
News: Bears quarterback Jason Campbell had to finish off a 21-14 loss Week 14 at Minnesota after quarterback Jay Cutler sustained a neck injury late in the fourth quarter. Campbell was quite productive on his lone drive, completing 6 of 9 passes for 64 yards, which was capped off by a 16-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Marshall on third-and-15. Campbell also had an 8-yard run.
Analysis: The early reports are that Cutler is expected to be OK, but he will be further evaluated Monday. Campbell started Week 11 against the 49ers when Cutler was out with a concussion. However, he totaled just 107 passing yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Even if Campbell has to start Week 15 vs. Green Bay, he would not be a recommended Fantasy option.
News: Bears quarterback Jason Campbell was a full participant in practice Friday and is being considered as probable for Week 12 against the Vikings. He was limited earlier in the week due to a rib injury. With Jay Cutler (concussion) being listed as questionable for Sunday's matchup, Campbell could start for the second straight week. Minnesota ranks 15th in the league in pass defense, giving up over 229 yards per game, and has allowed an average of 21.6 Fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks.
Analysis: Campbell threw for just 107 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in his start against the 49ers last week but had little time in the pocket due to the Bears' weak offensive line. He could be in for the same from Jared Allen and Co. Sunday so keep an eye on Cutler's status going forward. Even if Campbell ends up starting again in Week 12, leave him for the deepest of Fantasy formats.
News: Bears quarterback Jason Campbell had a nightmare performance in Week 11, getting sacked six times and completing 14 passes for 107 yards. He was also intercepted twice. But Campbell's deserves at least a minor reprieve from the scorn; he was playing against a tenacious 49ers defense, and he had Houston as his opponent when he took over for a concussed Jay Cutler in Week 10. With the Vikings on tap, Campbell -- if he starts again -- should see his fortunes improve, as Minnesota has allowed opposing quarterbacks to score 20 or more Fantasy points in all but four games this season.
Analysis: Campbell isn't a terrible quarterback, but he isn't necessarily a great one, either. He's unexciting -- prone to the occasional 103-yard passing day but capable of less frequent 320-yard games as well. Most of the time, however, he wallows in the middle, putting up 200-yard, two-touchdown performances (with an interception or two thrown in for good measure). He has one big thing going for him with this Chicago team, though: Brandon Marshall. The wideout catches almost anything thrown his way, and the two connected for a touchdown in Week 11. Don't expect big things from Campbell if he starts in Week 12, but it would be wrong to dismiss him as total garbage.
News: Bears quarterback Jason Campbell received the start in Week 11 against the 49ers with Jay Cutler (concussion) out. He was under pressure the entire game, including getting sacked six times, and completed 14 of 22 passes for 107 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in the 32-7 loss. He threw his first interception in the first half and went into halftime with just 21 yards passing. Campbell was more effective in the second half and hooked up with wideout Brandon Marshall on a 13-yard scoring strike in the third quarter. Campbell, who posted a 52.7 passer rating, also gained 13 yards on one carry in the defeat. "It definitely wasn't our best effort, by no means," Campbell said.
Analysis: Campbell made his first start since last season Monday night but could not get much going with the 49ers' front-seven constantly in his face. Owners should keep an eye on Cutler's status leading up to Week 12 against the Vikings to see if the 30-year-old will be needed to start again. Even if Campbell receives the nod against Minnesota, however, he should be viewed as a low-end option in the deepest of Fantasy formats.
News: Veteran quarterback Jason Campbell will replace Jay Cutler as Chicago's starter for Week 11 at San Francisco after Cutler was ruled out for the game due to a concussion. Campbell, whose previous start came with Oakland in Week 6 last season, replaced Cutler for the start of the second half last Sunday against Houston and finished 11 of 19 for 94 yards passing. Josh McCown will serve as Campbell's backup for the Bears.
Analysis: Campbell last start certainly was one he'd like to forget as he connected on 6 of his 9 passes for 52 yards against Cleveland, and then suffered a broken collarbone. He finished with a passer rating of 84.2 for the Raiders last season. Unfortunately, Campbell draws another tough matchup during his first start in more than a year as he faces an aggressive 49ers defense that has held opponents to just 196.8 passing yards a game, San Francisco has yielded multiple touchdown passes only twice in the past seven games and allowed an average of 15.0 Fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks. Campbell should be bypassed in nearly all formats for Week 11.
News: Bears quarterback Jason Campbell started the third quarter Sunday's game against the Texans in place of Jay Cutler, who suffered a concussion. Campbell was able to manage the rest of the game and completed 11 of 19 passes for 94 yards in a 13-6 defeat. Six of his 11 passes went to Brandon Marshall, including a long, 35-yard gain in the third quarter.
Analysis: Campbell did a decent job filling for Jay Cutler, who may have played a few snaps with a concussion. All eyes will be on Jay Cutler nest week leading up to Monday's showdown against the 49ers. If Cutler is unable to play, then Campbell will have to take over under center. Campbell signed with the Bears in the offseason for a shot off backing up Cutler, who has been plagued with injuries in the past few years. He started six games for the Raiders last season before getting hurt, so he has a ton of experience. Fantasy owners should continue to keep an eye on Cutler's status. If Cutler is ruled out of Monday's game, then Campbell becomes a low-end Fantasy option heading into Week 11.
News: Bears quarterback Jason Campbell played most of Chicago's fourth quarter in the team's 51-20 blowout of the Titans on Sunday. He did not attempt a pass, but finished with -3 rushing yards on three kneels at the end of the game.
Analysis: Campbell may be better than the average backup quarterback, at least in terms of probability that the starter will get hurt, as Jay Cutler has been sacked more often than all but two quarterbacks this year. As of now, however, Campbell has little Fantasy value.
News: Quarterback Jason Campbell agreed to a one-year contract Tuesday with the Chicago Bears and will back up Jay Cutler. Campbell has spent the past two years in Oakland after playing his first four seasons with Washington and has started 70 of the 71 games he has appeared in. But he fractured a clavicle midway through last season and the Raiders brought in Carson Palmer. Campbell has completed 1,296 of 2,131 passes for 14,417 yards, 74 touchdowns and 50 interceptions in his career.
Analysis: The Bears were looking for a backup after Caleb Hanie struggled late last season filling in for the injured Cutler. Chicago eventually turned to Josh McCown, who is a free agent. Unless Cutler gets hurt again, Fantasy owners shouldn't consider Campbell at all in 2012.
News: The Jets have had conversations about signing Jason Campbell when free agency starts later this month, ESPN reports. Campbell went 4-2 in six starts for the Raiders before breaking his collarbone and missing the rest of the season. The thinking is that he'd begin as Mark Sanchez's backup and provide the team with a legit option if Sanchez struggles in 2012.
Analysis: Campbell is a good, not great, quarterback who would only be useful as a one-week replacement if he became the Jets' starter. We think he'll try to land with a team that will give him a legit chance to start in Week 1, not a team that already has a starter. We'll see what happens but Campbell isn't someone to put on your radar.
News: The San Francisco Chronicle reports Wednesday that Oakland QB Jason Campbell (collarbone) will not return at any point this season. Campbell, who broke his collarbone on Oct. 16, recently began throwing again but is not going to make it back for the Raiders, who have moved on with Carson Palmer. I am up to about 30 yards now, making some improvement, Campbell said. Its going good. I have only had a couple days of cardio, because when I tried to run earlier my shoulder was hurting too much from bouncing. It would be hard to come back this season. Could still be a little while before I am game-ready.
Analysis: Campbell would only have backed up Palmer if he would have been able to return to game action this season. Campbell is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the season and is likely not going to be in Oakland's plans. For now, Fantasy owners can drop him off all rosters. He is not going to become Fantasy viable again this season.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell (collarbone) is getting closer but isnt ready to return to practice, coach Hue Jackson said. Campbell has missed seven straight games. I still think hes still a little ways away from having an opportunity to come out there and play and throw the ball," Jackson said.
Analysis: If Campbell returns in 2011, then he will be looking at a backup QB job to Carson Palmer. Campbell had Fantasy value before getting hurt. Dump him onto Fantasy waivers and don't look back.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell, who missed his fifth straight game Sunday with a broken collarbone, has resumed throwing, coach Hue Jackson said Monday. He has been pitching it around a little bit. Not very far, but hes pitching it around a little bit and getting better. So well see where he is here soon.
Analysis: Campbell has not played since suffering the injury in Week 6 but with Carson Palmer leading the Raiders for the foreseeable future, Fantasy owners should not hold out hope on the 30-year-old be a contributor again this season. Continue to ignore him in all Fantasy leagues.
News: Raiders coach Hue Jackson said on Wednesday that hes really excited about the potential of injured QB Jason Campbell recovering from his broken collarbone in time to be available later this season. I think he tried (to throw) a little bit, and it just wasnt there, Jackson said. But I think hes getting there. Its going to take some time. Hes working at it. Campbell will miss his fifth game in Week 12 against the Bears.
Analysis: Campbell has not played since suffering the injury in Week 6 and with Carson Palmer leading the Raiders for the foreseeable future, Fantasy owners should not hold out hope on the 30-year-old be a contributor again this season. Continue to ignore him in all Fantasy leagues.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell has been ruled out for Week 10 against the Chargers as he continues to recover from a broken clavicle. He has not played since suffering the injury in Week 6.
Analysis: Campbell got off to a decent start this season but his injury and the addition of QB Carson Palmer puts his future in Oakland in doubt. Even if he is healthy enough to play again this season he will likely take a backseat to Palmer so owners would be wise to continue to ignore Campbell in the majority of Fantasy leagues.
News: The Raiders confirmed at Tuesday's NFL trade deadline that they acquired QB Carson Palmer from the Bengals. The Bengals acquired a first-round pick in 2012 and a conditional pick in 2013. The Raiders lost QB Jason Campbell to a collarbone injury in Week 6, replacing him with QB Kyle Boller.
Analysis: Campbell underwent successful surgery on Monday and said that he had hoped to return in six weeks. Barring unforeseen circumstances, his services as a starter will no longer be needed. The Raiders paid a steep price for Palmer and will look to make him their starter beyond just this season. Campbell should no longer be owned in Fantasy leagues as a result of this news.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell (collarbone) told reporters on Monday that he was scheduled to undergo surgery later in the day. He added that he hopes the injury is not season-ending, as has been speculated. "If everything goes right, I could be back in six weeks," said Campbell.
Analysis: The Raiders have reportedly reached out to free agent QB David Garrard. Campbell will face an uphill battle just to get back this season and seems like more than a long shot to help Fantasy owners. A low-end No. 2 QB when healthy, he should not be stashed in most formats. We'll continue to update you on his situation as more becomes known.
News: Oakland QB Jason Campbell appears to have broken his collarbone in the Week 6 win over the Browns. Campbell was injured before halftime as he made a 7-yard run and was tackled hard by Scott Fujita at the end of the play. Campbell came up injured and had to leave the game in favor of Kyle Boller. Campbell was examined at halftime and Boller came out to start the second half as the starter was done for the game and perhaps the season. Campbell, who might be done for the year if reports are correct, is likely definitely out for Week 7 against Kansas City at least. Campbell finished 6 for 9 for 52 yards and no scores or interceptions in the game. Campbell had rushed twice for 16 yards before leaving the game in favor of Boller.
Analysis: Campbell was efficient but not spectacular on Sunday prior to getting injured for the Raiders. Campbell has been described that way for much of this season for Oakland as he has just two games with multiple touchdown passes. Campbell might have finished his season with six touchdown passes and four interceptions and he's had just two games above 200 yards passing. That said, he's proven himself a leader for the Raiders, who may need to make some roster changes heading into Week 7 against the Chiefs. The Chiefs haven't been great against opposing quarterbacks this season, so Boller might be a decent stopgap for Campbell owners. That said, Campbell should be avoided going forward as he seems to be done for the year.
News: Oakland QB Jason Campbell has been decent this season for the surprising Raiders entering Week 6 against Cleveland. Campbell has also been slightly inconsistent. He has two games with over 300 yards passing and three with fewer than 200 yards. Last week at Houston, Campbell went just 15 of 35 for 190 yards, but did have two TD passes compared to one interception. For the year, Campbell has thrown six touchdowns compared to four picks. The only time he's faced Cleveland in his career came back in 2008 with Washington. Campbell went 14 of 23 in that game for 164 yards with a touchdown and no picks.
Analysis: Three of Campbell's four interceptions have come in his last two games and he's struggled with efficiency all season thus far. The Oakland running game has been fantastic and the Raiders expect to jam the ball down Cleveland's throats. If Chris Johnson topped 100 yards against the Browns in Week 4, Darren McFadden should have little trouble shredding that defense. On the other hand, Cleveland has been solid at limiting the Fantasy production of opposing quarterbacks thus far this year. Only four passing touchdowns have been scored against them, and three of those came in Week 4 by Matt Hasselbeck. Campbell should be in line for another inconsistent game in Week 6, so Fantasy owners should consider him just a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB for the game.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell completed just 15 of 35 passes in Week 5 at Houston, but his two touchdown passes proved to be the difference in an emotional 25-20 win over the Texans on the day after the team learned owned Al Davis had died. He threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Darrius Heyward-Bey in the second quarter and an 18-yard touchdown to Chaz Schilens in the fourth quarter. He was intercepted once in the game a deep pass attempt.
Analysis: Campbell was far from efficient, but he was able to get solid contributions from Heyward-Bey for a second consecutive week as the team seems to have settled on a No. 1 target. The team struggled, surprisingly, to get much going on the ground with Darren McFadden and the Raiders were unable to maintain a good balance offensively. Heyward-Bey was the only Raiders receiver to finished with more than three catches. Oakland's passing game still leaves much to be desired, but Campbell could qualify as a viable low-end bye week replacement option for Fantasy owners in a pinch. Do not rely on him as a weekly starting option in any format. He'll take on the Browns at home in Week 6.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell threw two costly interceptions in a loss to the Patriots in Week 4, but offensive coordinator Al Saunders said he expects him to bounce back against Houston in Week 5. Hes had two of his best days of practice. And Jason is very, very competitive," Saunders said. "He is a very focused young man. If you look at his statistics, hes playing as well as hes ever played in his career.
Analysis: Campbell will be up against a Texans defense that ranks 10th in the NFL against the pass. They have allowed just 214.2 passing yards per game, with five touchdown passes against four interceptions. The Texans have allowed an average of 14.5 Fantasy points, in standard CBSSports.com leagues, against opposing quarterbacks this season. While his OC expects him to bounce back, we still view Campbell as a No. 2 Fantasy QB for Week 5. He continues to be limited in practice with a foot injury but it's not threatening his playing status.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell was limited in practice on Wednesday with a foot injury. He has been dealing with a lingering foot issue since Week 3, but has not missed any games. Barring any setbacks, he should play in Week 5 at Houston.
Analysis: Campbell will be up against a Texans defense that ranks 10th in the NFL against the pass. They have allowed just 214.2 passing yards per game with five touchdown passes against four interceptions. The Texans have allowed an average of 14.5 Fantasy points, in standard CBSSports.com leagues, against opposing quarterbacks this season. With Campbell already a very low-end Fantasy QB, a tough matchup makes him a player to avoid in all Fantasy formats for Week 5.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell was able to move the ball against the Patriots in Week 4. He completed 25 of 39 passes for 344 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in the 31-19 loss. He tossed an ugly interception to DB Patrick Chung in the second quarter before being picked off by DL Vince Wilfork on a screen pass late in the game. "It cost us. It cost our team," Campbell said. "It's something I don't usually do. Unfortunately, it happened. And from that point on, it kind of stirred the momentum. We just pretty much were going tit for tat at that point. You're going against a team like New England, an offensive juggernaut, you can't have mistakes like that." Campbell's touchdown came on a 6-yard pass to WR Denarius Moore. He also had four carries for 29 yards in the defeat.
Analysis: Campbell was able to make some big plays through the air on Sunday but his two interceptions were bad -- even for his standards. He is most effective when the running game is working and has shown the ability to be efficient so keep an eye on his progress going forward. Heading into Week 5 against the Texans, continue to view Campbell as more of a No. 2 Fantasy QB.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell will not be facing one of the better pass defenses in the league in Week 4 against the Patriots. New England enters Sunday ranked last in the NFL against the pass, giving up 377 yards per contest, and have allowed an average of 27 Fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks.
Analysis: Campbell has been very efficient so far this season, completing nearly 66 percent of his passes, but he has not been putting up the best of stats. The Raiders rise and fall by their running game, and they do not rely on the pass as much as some Fantasy owners would like. Still, he should be able to move the ball against the Patriots' 32nd-ranked pass defense so consider Campbell a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB for Week 4.
News: Oakland QB Jason Campbell was 18 for 27 for 156 yards in the Raiders' 34-24 victory over the Jets in Week 3 on Sunday. Campbell did not record a touchdown or interception as Oakland won focused on its ground game, putting up the most yards rushing (234) and the third-most points in a game against the Rex Ryan-led Jets. It was the first time in three games this season Campbell did not throw for a touchdown.
Analysis: Campbell was also effective in the hurry-up offense as he completed six short passes in a two-minute drill to set up a 54-yard field goal by Sebastian Janikowski on the final play of the half to tie the game. He was listed as probable for the game with a foot injury, but did not show any lingering effects of an injury and amassed 10 rushing yards. Consider Campbell as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB for Week 4 against New England.
News: Oakland QB Jason Campbell is active for the team's Week 3 matchup against the Jets on Sunday. Campbell was listed as probable on the injury report after being limited in practice earlier this week with a foot injury.
Analysis: Campbell is coming off one of the finest outings of his career in Week 2 against Buffalo and passed for 323 yards. However, Fantasy owners should not consider Campbell a viable option in Week 3 as New York is limiting opposing quarterbacks to a paltry 9.8 points per game this season.
News: As expected, Raiders QB Jason Campbell was listed as probable for Week 3 against the Jets despite being limited in practice for part of the week. Campbell understands the challenge awaiting the Raiders this week when they face standout cornerbacks Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie and a rugged Jets defense. Youve got two of the best corners in the league, one of the best blitzing defenses in the league," he said. "Weve really got to be on our game as far as studying and knowing what we want to do with the football.
Analysis: Campbell is coming off one of the finest outings of his career in Week 2 against Buffalo and passed for 323 yards -- the ninth time he's topped the 300-yard plateau. In his past four starts, he's completed 80 of 122 passes (65.6 percent) for 814 yards with five touchdowns. However, Fantasy owners should not consider Campbell a viable option in Week 3 as New York is limiting opposing quarterbacks to a paltry 9.8 points per game this season.
News: Nothing changed in the practice regimen for Raiders QB Jason Campbell, who was limited for a second straight day Thursday with a foot injury. However, this injury isn't expected to sideline Campbell for Week 3 against the Jets. Campbell understands the challenge awaiting the Raiders this week when they face standout cornerbacks Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie and a rugged Jets defense. Youve got two of the best corners in the league, one of the best blitzing defenses in the league," he said. News: Oakland QB Jason Campbell (foot) was limited in practice Wednesday as the team prepares for its first home game of the season in Week 3 against the Jets. Campbell is coming off one of the finest outings of his career in Week 2 against Buffalo and passed for 323 yards -- the ninth time he's topped the 300-yard plateau. In his past four starts, he's completed 80 of 122 passes (65.6 percent) for 814 yards with five touchdowns.

News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell threw for 323 yards in Week 2 at Buffalo despite playing without the top three wide receivers on the depth chart due to injuries. Campbell threw two touchdown passes, completing 23 of 33 attempts. He was intercepted once.
Analysis: Campbell had thrown for just 105 yards in the opener at Denver. He and the Raiders may have found something to build on in the passing game with rookie Denarius Moore breaking out for five catches and 146 yards. RB Darren McFadden continues to prove to be a force in the passing game as well and Campbell could prove to be a useful Fantasy option when the bye weeks come around if he can follow up on this momentum in Week 3. However, a tough matchup against the Jets makes him a player to sit in just about all scenarios. Consider him an add-and-stash candidate in deeper formats for now.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell threw for 105 yards and two touchdowns in Week 1 at Denver. In Week 2, he'll face a Bills defense that held Chiefs QB Matt Cassel to 119 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Last season, the Bills allowed the third fewest passing yards in the NFL (192) per game. They allowed 28 touchdown passes, however, good for sixth most in the league.
Analysis: Campbell is merely a reserve option in Fantasy play at this time and, aside from the fact the Bills allowed a ton of passing touchdowns last season, the matchup doesn't do much to change that fact. The Bills defense looked solid in Week 1, holding Cassel to below 200 yards and only the one score. We don't recommend starting Campbell in most Fantasy scenarios for Week 2.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell notched two touchdowns during Week 1 against the Broncos. Campbell's first touchdown of the 23-20 victory came in the second quarter, as he found Marcel Reece on a 3-yard touchdown strike, which put the Raiders up 7-3. He then capped off a three-play 65-yard scoring drive in the fourth quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run on a quarterback sneak. Campbell finished 13 for 22 for 105 yards and a touchdown and completed a pass to five different receivers in the win. He also rushed for 6 yards and a score while posting a 86.4 QB rating.
Analysis: Campbell didn't put up gaudy numbers in the victory, but was able to move the chains when he needed to and accounted for two touchdowns. Still, he only completed a pass to two different WRs all game and looked out of sync at times. It appears the Raiders will once again rely on their ground game to generate most of their offense this season, which could limit Campbell's numbers. However, as long as he continues to start, Campbell will at least carry the value of a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB. Fantasy owners should view him as such when Oakland travels out east to face the Bills in Week 2. Buffalo allowed just 105 passing in their Week 1 win over the Chiefs last Sunday.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell has had success against his Week 1 opponent. In two games against the Broncos last season, he threw for 442 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. He also had another 56 yards on the ground. Denver allowed 236 yards per contest through the air a year ago and gave up an average of 18.5 Fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks.
Analysis: Campbell had a rough year in his first season with the Raiders has he posted his lowest numbers since his rookie campaign. While he threw just eight interceptions, injuries and inconsistent play cost him some playing time. He is expected to be the starter for much of 2011 but rookie Terrelle Pryor could push him for playing time as the season goes on. While he has a favorable matchup for Week 1, Fantasy owners should consider Campbell as more of a low-end No. 2 QB against the Broncos.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell, who took a blow to the head last Saturday against the 49ers, started Sunday's preseason game against the Saints. He played the entire first half and completed 12 of 17 passes for 150 yards. Campbell threw a 35-yard touchdown to Derek Hagan and also tossed an interception.
Analysis: Campbell looked pretty efficient outside of the pick on Sunday, and he showed no visual limitation on the field. Fantasy owners should not expect much different from the Auburn product in 2011, as he figures to be a middle-of-the-road option. Campbell is worth a late-round pick as a Fantasy reserve on Draft Day.
News: QB Jason Campbell, who took a blow to the head Saturday against the 49ers, returned to practice Tuesday after missing Monday's workout.
Analysis: The Raiders did their tests after Campbell got knocked out Saturday and he has passed them, so he is back to work. Campbell is getting comfortable in Hue Jackson's system, but he still has a suspect receiving corps, so Campbell remains just a Fantasy reserve to open the season.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell was on the practice field Monday, but didn't have his helmet and watched practice. He was knocked out of Saturday's game against the 49ers after taking a knee to the head.
Analysis: Coach Hue Jackson said on Sunday that Campbell was supposed to practice Monday, but it seems the team is just being a little cautious with their starting QB. If his status for the season opener changes, then we will let you know. For now, Campbell remains just a Fantasy reserve, worth a flier in the late rounds of deep formats.
News: Raiders coach Hue Jackson told reporters on Sunday that QB Jason Campbell is expected to be back at practice on Monday, two days after leaving the preseason game with a possible concussion. "It's a huge relief," Jackson said. "Anytime a guy goes out and needs to be checked, you want to make sure that the next day that everything is going to be OK. He's going to be well."
Analysis: Campbell took a knee to the head on a scramble play late in the second quarter and did not return to the game. He took concussion tests after the 17-3 loss Saturday night and Jackson said he thought his quarterback would return to practice on Monday. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on the issue, but the former Auburn standout seems to be ready to roll. Campbell should be considered a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB as the Raiders will likely lean heavily on their running backs again this season, though they take as many down-the-field shots as anyone.
News: Oakland QB Jason Campbell was knocked out of the Raiders' exhibition game against San Francisco on Saturday night with a possible concussion after getting kneed in the helmet. Campbell was hurt while scrambling on a play late in the second quarter. He lost the ball on the play and then got hit by Justin Smith and Ahmad Brooks as he fell to the ground to recover his own fumble. "I tried to go dive on it and caught a knee to the head," Campbell said after the game. "We just have to run some tests and make sure it's not a concussion." Campbell was 5 for 7 for 74 yards in two-plus series before leaving.
Analysis: Campbell sat alone on the bench for the rest of the first half and did not come back to the field in the second half. He was going for tests Saturday night to determine whether he had a concussion. Campbell said he has had a slight concussion once before in his career. This marks the second straight year that Campbell got hurt in an exhibition game against San Francisco. He got a stinger last year that affected him early in the regular season. Fantasy owners should still view Campbell a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB as the Raiders will likely lean heavily on their running backs again this season.
News: Oakland QB Jason Campbell left the Raiders' exhibition game against San Francisco on Saturday night in the second quarter with an apparent head injury Campbell was hurt late in the second quarter on a scramble play. He was tackled by the 49ers' Justin Smith and appeared to take a forearm to the helmet from LB Ahmad Brooks. Campbell was down on the ground briefly while being checked out by trainers. There was no immediate word on extent of the injury.
Analysis: Campbell was sitting on the bench for the rest of the first half after being replaced by Trent Edwards. Campbell went 5 for 7 for 74 yards in two-plus series. When the second half began, Campbell was on the sidelines, wearing a baseball cap. Campbell got a stinger last year in the exhibition game against San Francisco that affected him early in the season. Its an encouraging sign hes on his feet and walking around. Fantasy owners should still consider him a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB as the Raiders will likely lean heavily on their running backs again this season.
News: On Tuesday, Raiders QB Jason Campbell's outlook got worse with Zach Miller signing with Seattle. It rebounded a bit on Friday when the Raiders signed Kevin Boss. Boss signed a four-year deal and is expected to be the team's primary receiving tight end.
Analysis: Last season Boss caught 35 passes for 531 yards and five touchdowns in New York while splitting the field with the Giants' multiple receiver threats. Campbell should find Boss to his liking so long as he is healthy. While the signing won't turn Campbell into a Fantasy sensation, at least it gives him another good target. Campbell remains a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB who can probably be passed up in drafts.
News:Zach Miller has signed a contract with the Seahawks, ending his tenure with the Raiders. That impacts Jason Campbell, who has made a career out of connecting with his tight ends. Last season Miller caught three of Campbell's 13 touchdown passes and totaled roughly 40 receptions. The Raiders' receiving corps still has Jacoby Ford, Louis Murphy and Darrius Heyward-Bey, but the tight ends left include Brandon Myers and Richard Gordon; combined they have 16 career catches (Gordon is a rookie).
Analysis: Campbell isn't a highly regarded Fantasy passer to begin with, but this news does put a hole in his Fantasy stock for the time being. Miller was a sure-fire target with a lot of potential in 2011. Look for Campbell with a late-round pick in drafts, if at all.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell was on his ninth offensive system in nine years -- dating back to college -- in 2010 after being acquired in a trade from Washington. So you can understand his relief heading into 2011 as he works for a second straight season in Hue Jackson's system. Its nice to be comfortable in the system, Campbell told ESPN.com. I think it helps everyone. It helps me and it helps me help my teammates. Were all on the same page and were all comfortable together this year. I can tell guys what to expect because Im familiar in the system. Its a good thing.
Analysis: It's going to be interesting to watch Campbell in 2011 and see if he is truly comfortable in Jackson's offense. He did play better in the second half in 2010, completing 60.1 percent of his passes as opposed to 57.6 percent in the first half of last season. His yards per attempt also went up from 6.2 in the first half to 8.2 in the second half. He has the potential to play well since he plays in a weak division and can also make plays with his legs, but the Raiders WR corps is still a little weak. Campbell is only worth drafting with a late-round pick in deep leagues as a reserve QB.
News: The San Francisco Chronicle reports former NFL quarterback Joe Theismann feels Raiders first-year offensive coordinator Al Saunders will be a good influence on QB Jason Campbell, who previously worked with Saunders in 2006-07 with the Redskins. "The offensive line (Campbell) had in Washington was just horrible, so you can't put too much into those numbers he had with Al in Washington," Theismann said. "It's all set up for Jason this year -- they have a great running game, (head coach) Hue (Jackson) is back and Al is there so Jason will be working with a system he knows." Theismann said a reason for Campbell's struggles has been the lack of consistency on offense since he has dealt with so many coordinators in his career. "He has had system after system, new voice after new voice," Theismann said. "So, how can you evaluate a Jason Campbell based on that, with no stability? Last year, he came on and finally started to show a little confidence and made some strong sides. The Raiders can be a playoff team if Jason has a good season."
Analysis: Theismann added that Saunders will work with Campbell on getting the ball out of his hands quickly. It's definitely hard to trust Campbell in Fantasy because his numbers have been mediocre. There is no doubt that this kid has a strong arm, but his accuracy at times is a big hindrance. He completed just 59 percent of his passes in 2010. He has the potential to play well since he plays in a weak division and can also make plays with his legs, but the Raiders WR corps is still a little weak. Campbell is only worth drafting with a late-round pick in deep leagues as a reserve QB.
News: The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Raiders WR Nick Miller said during player-only workouts in Atlanta recently, QB Jason Campbell showed he has become a strong leader. "Last year was Jason's first year, and he came in and wasn't sure about a lot of things, and then he got benched," Miller said. "But he finished up strong and this year, he is the guy.He is reaching out to people, taking charge of situations and people are looking to him. You can feel it. The whole vibe has changed ... the quarterback is the leader of the team and he's definitely the guy now."
Analysis: Campbell enters 2011 as a No. 2 Fantasy QB in all leagues. He has the potential to play well since he plays in a weak division and can also make plays with his legs, but the Raiders WR corps is still a little weak. Campbell is only worth drafting with a late-round pick in deep leagues.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell, in an interview withProFootballTalk.com, said he received his Raiders playbook during the one-day window when a court ruling lifted the lockout. That has given him the opportunity to get under the hood of Hue Jackson's offense, which is different from the offense the Raiders ran last year with Tom Cable as head coach and Jackson as offensive coordinator. Campbell added that he has been organizing team workouts during the lockout and has been throwing with WRs Darrius Heyward-Bey and Louis Murphy.
Analysis: Campbell shouldn't be at much of a loss when the Raiders officially kick off their offseason, which is a good thing. There were some weeks last season where he was outstanding and some weeks where he was weak. Fantasy owners shouldn't consider him anything more than a No. 2 Fantasy QB, but one worth drafting with a late pick as there is some upside for his production given the explosiveness of his receivers and the offense he'll run in 2011.
News: Raiders WR Jacoby Ford said in an interview with CBSSports.com that he likes playing with QB Jason Campbell and expects good things for Campbell in 2011. In 2010, Campbell finished his first season with the Raiders with 2,387 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 12 starts with 47 carries for 22 yards and one touchdown. "Jason is good," Ford said. "Hes a great quarterback. When hes got time to sit back there in the pocket and keep his poise, he does a great job. He has a strong arm. He makes the right reads. Hes smart and he knows the game."
News: Hue Jackson revitalized the dormant Raiders offense in one season as coordinator, and it earned him a promotion to the head coach spot and the tall task of getting the Raiders back into the postseason after an eight-year drought. That should be good news for Jason Campbell, who is under contract for 2011 and has a strong relationship with Jackson. Despite being benched twice, Campbell had a solid debut season in Oakland, completing 59 percent of his passes with 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions. "He played flawless," Jackson said. "He played almost as good as you can play as a quarterback in our league. Led us to some very impressive wins. And I look forward to him doing the same thing this year in our system, same system, opportunity to go out with the same teammates, OK, and go out and play the way we know he can play." Now he gets rare the opportunity to play in the same offense for a second straight season. He had four different offenses in four years at Auburn, then four more in six years in the NFL with Washington and Oakland.
Analysis: Campbell wasn't always a Fantasy factor, but in favorable matchups he served well as a one-week replacement option. We expect him to end up starting for the Raiders in 2011 but remain nothing more than a middle- to low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB. He should go undrafted in standard 10- and 12-team leagues.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell played well in the season-finale Sunday at Kansas City in Week 17. Campbell was 15 of 25 passing for 155 yards and a touchdown and four carries for 33 yards. He left the game briefly with a knee contusion in the first quarter but was able to return and finish the game. Campbell finished his first season with the Raiders with 2,387 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 12 starts with 47 carries for 22 yards and one touchdown.
Analysis: Campbell should enter 2011 as the starting QB in Oakland, and hopefully the Raiders will continue to add to their receiving corps to give him some help. Since he plays in the AFC West, Campbell has the chance to be successful, but he remains just a No. 2 Fantasy QB heading into next year. Campbell should only be drafted with a late-round pick in the majority of leagues.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell returned to the game Week 17 against the Chiefs after missing just one offensive drive with a right knee contusion. Kyle Boller replaced Campbell in the first quarter after Campbell was injured on an 8-yard scramble.
Analysis: Campbell was lucky to avoid a serious injury and also fortunate he didn't have to finish his final game watching from the sidelines. Still, if Campbell didn't return to the game his impact in Fantasy would have been minimal because Campbell was a low-end option coming into Week 17 anyway.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell didn't last the first quarter Week 17 against the Chiefs, sustaining a right knee contusion on the team's first offensive drive. Campbell injured his knee on an 8-yard scramble. He did not attempt a pass before being replaced by Kyle Boller.
Analysis: The knee injury is a disappointing way for Campbell to wrap up his first season with the Raiders. It started with a lot of promise as Campbell was getting a fresh start, but he disappointed much like his time with the Redskins. Even if Campbell has a starting job heading into 2011, he will be nothing more than a low-end Fantasy reserve on Draft Day.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell had a busy game in Week 16 against the Colts. On a day in which Oakland could not get much going with the running game, the 28-year-old attempted a season-high 42 passes. He went 29 of 42 for 231 yards and a touchdown in the 31-26 loss. Campbell's lone scoring strike came on a 6-yard pass to TE Zach Miller with less than two minutes left in the game. He also carried the ball three times for 10 yards in the defeat.
Analysis: Campbell had been leaning on his potent running game in recent weeks but he was forced into more action in Week 16 as the Colts found a way to limit RBs Darren McFadden and Michael Bush. He has played efficiently of late, throwing for 910 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions over his last four games. While the Raiders have been eliminated from playoff contention, they will want to beat their division-rival Chiefs next weekend. Campbell should be considered a viable No. 2 Fantasy QB for Week 17.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell has played well in recent weeks but will be looking to utilize his running backs in Week 16 against the Colts. Oakland will use their second-ranked rushing attack to wear down Indianapolis' 28th ranked run defense to open things up for Campbell. The Colts rank 11th in the league against the pass, allowing just under 210 yards per game, and have given up an average of 16.3 Fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks.
Analysis: Campbell has been playing well of late and has thrown for 679 yards with four touchdowns and just two interceptions in his last three games. Both of those interceptions came against the Broncos a week ago. The Colts allowed Jaguars QB David Garrard to throw for 294 yards and two scores last week, which bodes well for Campbell. While RBs Darren McFadden and Michael Bush will see a ton of work on Sunday, Campbell should be able to make a few plays threw the air. Consider the 28-year-old a No. 2 Fantasy QB for Week 16.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell did not have his finest game in Week 15 against the Broncos, but he was able to lead his team to another win. On a day in which Oakland ran for 264 yards, he finished 15 of 26 for 238 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Campbell was picked off twice in the first half but played more efficiently as the game went on. His lone scoring strike came on a screen pass to RB Marcel Reece, which he took 73-yards for the score in the fourth quarter. Campbell also carried the ball five times for 41 yards in the 39-23 victory.
Analysis: Campbell missed a play due to injury on Sunday, but he was right back on there when the next series started. He has thrown at least one touchdown pass in each of the last three games and has eclipsed the 200- yard mark in back-to-back weeks. That might not seem like a lot to most quarterbacks but it is a positive thing for the 28-year-old. Having a solid running game to lean on is a plus for Campbell but his production has been too erratic to trust in most Fantasy formats. Heading into Week 16 against the Colts, continue to view Campbell as a No. 2 Fantasy QB.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell had his best performance of the year his last time out and could be in line for another solid game in Week 15 against the Broncos. Denver ranks 19th in the league against the pass, allowing over 226 yards per contest, and have given up an average of 20.4 Fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. When the division foes met earlier in the year, Campbell threw for 204 yards with two touchdowns.
Analysis: Campbell carved up a weak Jacksonville defeat for 324 yards and two scores a week ago and should be able to move the ball against Denver in Week 15. He will not be counted on to shoulder the load as the Raiders will likely pound the rock with RBs Darren McFadden and Michael Bush against the Broncos 31st-ranked run defense. Campbell has been efficient in recent weeks and might be worth starting in deeper leagues this Sunday. Consider the 28-year-old a No. 2 Fantasy QB against the Broncos in Week 15.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell suffered a stinger Sunday for the third time this season, but he practiced full Wednesday as the team prepares for the Week 15 game against the Broncos. Coach Tom Cable said there has been no lingering effects from it.
Analysis: Campbell is coming off of his best game of the season last week when he completed 21 of 30 passes for 324 yards with two touchdowns and no turnovers. We like him as a high-end No. 2 Fantasy option against the 19th-ranked Broncos defense.
News: The Raiders might have lost to the Jaguars in Week 14, but QB Jason Campbell played a pretty good game despite suffering a stinger. Campbell took advantage of a favorable matchup and completed 21 of 30 passes for 324 yards with two touchdowns and no turnovers. The stat line made for his best week of the season. His first touchdown came when he converted an early third down on a short slant to Darren McFadden and the rusher took it to the house. His second touchdown came near halftime when he led the Raiders on a nine-play drive that ended with an 8-yard touchdown toss to WR Louis Murphy. Campbell did leave the game for a spell in the fourth quarter but returned to try and lead the Raiders on a game-tying drive. Campbell said he not only had a stinger on a third-quarter hit but another problem. "At the same time he (Jags Will Middleton) slammed my head into the ground," Campbell said. "I had a headache and a stinger went down my left shoulder."
Analysis: We were impressed with a lot of Campbell's play. Though he still looked lost and was sacked a couple of times, he did make good use of his legs and kept several plays alive with his nimble moves in and out of the pocket. With another weak pass rush coming up next week in the Broncos, we wouldn't put it past Campbell to have another decent stat line in Week 15. If you're looking for a replacement for Aaron Rodgers or just need a quarterback with some upside to pad your bench stats, Campbell isn't a bad choice.
News: Here's a good reason to like Jason Campbell this week when he takes on the Jaguars in Jacksonville: He'll face a pass defense that's allowed multiple passing touchdowns to eight of 12 opponents this season, including two to the Titans earlier in the season and three to the Bills. The problem is that Campbell himself has passed for two touchdowns just twice this season -- once at Denver and again at home vs. the Seahawks. It is worth noting that Campbell ran for a touchdown last week at the Chargers and threw for one in the Raiders' dominating road win over the Bolts. The Jaguars looked like world-beaters last week, though it came against Kerry Collins and the melting Titans offense.
Analysis: You'd have to be desperate to consider Campbell in Fantasy play. Only if your starting quarterback is playing in extremely bad weather conditions or just had his appendix removed should you take a look at the Raiders' starter in Week 14.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell had an efficient performance in Week 13 against the Chargers. He completed 10 of 16 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown in the 28-13 win. He also had his first rushing score of the year, taking it in from 9 yards out on a fourth-and-1 bootleg in the first quarter. "Watching Cam Newton at Auburn, I had to go back to my Auburn days and make some plays with my feet," Campbell said. "That's something that helps our team when I'm able to do things like that and put pressure on the defense." He finished with 37 yards on seven carries. Campell's lone scoring strike went to WR Jacoby Ford for just the fourth TD reception by a Raiders wideout this season.
Analysis: Campbell had to leave the briefly game in Week 13 with an undisclosed but he was right back one play later and finished out the win. On a day in which the Raiders rushed for 251 yards and three touchdowns, Campbell was needed to make only a few plays through the air and did a solid job. With Bruce Gradkowski on injured-reserve, Campbell should continue to start down the stretch and can play more freely now that he does not have to look over his shoulder. But considering that Oakland will prefer to pound the rock against Jacksonville in Week 14, continue to view Campbell as a No. 2 Fantasy QB.
News: Raiders coach Tom Cable talked Friday on whether hed be more hesitant to pull QB Jason Campbell if he struggles now that Bruce Gradkowski is on IR. Well, Kyle (Boller) will be the backup quarterback, and hes ready to go if needed," Cable said. Campbell has been anointed the starter for Week 13 against the Chargers. Campbell threw for 159 yards and a touchdown against San Diego in Week 5 when he replaced Gradkowski in the team's first meeting this season.
Analysis: As has been for much of his career, Campbell continues to be inconsistent in 2010. He has had a few good games this season, but that is when Oakland has been able to run the football. Otherwise, when the game is in Campbell's hands, he doesn't quite get the job done. San Diego is second in the NFL in pass defense, so Campbell isn't lining up to be a recommended Fantasy start for Week 13.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell will start Sunday against San Diego in place of Bruce Gradkowski, who said he suffered a third-degree separation of his throwing shoulder against Miami and will be out a minimum of two weeks and possibly longer.
Analysis: Campbell has been benched twice this season, but he will get another crack as the starting QB for the Raiders on Sunday. Unfortunately, that will come against the Chargers, who are arguably the hottest team in football right now. Campbell threw for 159 yards and a touchdown when he replaced Gradkowski in the team's first meeting this season, but San Diego is playing at a much higher level right now. Consider Campbell a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB for Week 13.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell, who was benched in favor of Bruce Gradkowski in Week 12 against the Dolphins, could wind up as the starting QB for the Raiders in week 13. Gradkowski reinjured his throwing shoulder late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 33-17 loss and will be evaluated on Monday. Gradkowski said his should feels like it did when he was knocked out against the Chargers back on Oct. 10 and and missed the next four games. It felt good and I took a couple of hits on it. Well see tomorrow. You just never know, " he said.
Analysis: Cambell has been benched twice this season, but it appears he will get another crack as the starting QB for the Raiders on Sunday. Unfortunatley that will come against the Chargers, who are arguably the hottest team in football right now. Cambell threw for 159 yards and a touchdown when he replaced Gradkowski in the team's first meeting this season, but San Diego is playing at a much higher level right now. If Campbell is in fact named the starter next week, consider him a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB against the Chargers.
News: CBS reports Raiders QB Bruce Gradkowski will be the starter in Week 12 against the Dolphins. Coach Tom Cable said earlier this week that Campbell would remain the starting quarterback, but multiple reports leaked this week saying Gradkowski would start.
Analysis: Campbell went just 7 for 17 for 70 yards with an interception last Sunday against the Steelers and was pulled in favor of Gradkowski in the third quarter. Now that he's not starting, Fantasy owners can avoid him in all leagues.
News: QB Bruce Gradkowski will start for Jason Campbell, the Contra Costa Times, reports, citing two anonymous sources within the organization and one in Gradkowskis camp. Coach Tom Cable, who has benched Campbell twice during games, has not announced a switch. However, Gradkowski was the first QB in the huddle when the team began its pregame warumps.
Analysis: While nothing has still been made official it appears Gradkowski will start against Miami. Campbell went just 7 for 17 for 70 yards with an interception last Sunday against the Steelers and was pulled late in third quarter in favor of Gradkowski. Now that he's not starting, Fantasy owners can avoid him in all leagues.
News: The Raiders plan to start QB Bruce Gradkowski on Sunday against the Dolphins, reports ESPN.com Saturday. This is from a source close to the situation, according to ESPN.com. Jason Campbell will go to the bench.
Analysis: Campbell went just 7 for 17 for 70 yards with an interception last Sunday against the Steelers and was pulled late in third quarter in favor of Gradkowski. Now that he's not starting, Fantasy owners can avoid him in all leagues.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell will be looking for a bounce-back performance in Week 12 against the Dolphins. Campbell went just 7 for 17 for 70 yards with an interception last Sunday against the Steelers and was pulled late in third quarter in favor of Bruce Gradkowski. "I feel like for the most part in this season I had a pretty good year," Campbell said. "It happens. The main thing is you've got to push forward and keep winning and understand we're still in the fight."Miami enters Week 12 ranked fifth in pass defense, allowing 196.8 passing yards a game. The Dolphins have surrendered 13 touchdowns through the air this season and have allowed an average of 14.4 Fantasy points to opposing QBs on the year.
Analysis: Despite being pulled in the third quarter of last week's 35-3 loss to the Steelers, coach Tom Cable said Campbell would remain the starter moving forward. Campbell had led the Raiders to three straight victories prior to Week 11 and has thrown for 813 yards with five touchdowns and one interception over his last five contests. He has been very inconsistent at times season and could be a short leash if he struggles against the Dolphins. Miami has been good against the pass this season, so Oakland will most likely look to get their ground game going. Consider Campbell just a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB heading into Week 12.
News: The Oakland Raiders were thoroughly dominated by the Steelers in the Week 11 35-3 loss and coach Tom Cable benched QB Jason Campbell during the game. Campbell had led Oakland to three consecutive victories, but was pulled for Bruce Gradkowski late in the third quarter after going 7 of 19 for 70 yards and an interception. Campbell never had a chance against a Steelers defense that forced Oakland into becoming one-dimensional by limiting Darren McFadden to 14 yards on 10 carries. Cable said following the game that Campbell would remain his starting quarterback.
Analysis: Gradkowski didn't fare much better against the Steelers, throwing an interception of his own. Campbell will remain the team's starter heading into Week 12 against Miami. He's had a few good weeks but Week 11 has to scare you. Plus, he's had a few absolutely awful weeks as well. Playing a decent Miami defense against opposing quarterbacks, Fantasy owners can find a better option than Campbell.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell wont have a shorter leash now that backup Bruce Gradkowski's throwing shoulder is healthy. Campbell has earned the starting job, Tom Cable said. And if things dont go right or whatever happens, we have an answer to go to, Cable added. Campbell's next test comes in Week 11 against the Steelers. He has thrown five touchdowns and one pick while posting a 104.3 passer rating during a three-game winning streak and will be facing a slumping Steelers defense that has allowed 272.6 passing yards per game since Week 6, sixth-most in the league. He might not have his usual strong running game at his disposal, though. The Steelers rank first against the run by far, allowing 63.2 yards per game.
Analysis: Campbell has been more of a caretaker than a playmaker throughout his career, but he thinks he's not that way anymore, crediting his recent success to just cutting it loose, not trying to be perfect on everything. You cant be tight, worrying about if you do this youre not playing. You just have to play the game. We'll see if he's right this week. You have to figure the Steelers will focus on stopping Darren McFadden and company, forcing Campbell to win the game on his own. The Steelers still have plenty of playmakers on defense and could frustrate the still-unproven quarterback. Now isn't the time to take a flier on him in Fantasy.
News: Though Raiders coach Tom Cable initially said QB Bruce Gradkowski would regain the starting job when he recovered from a shoulder injury, Jason Campbell will remain in the role with Gradkowski back Week 11 at Pittsburgh. Campbell has thrown five touchdowns and one pick while posting a 104.3 passer rating during the winning streak and will be facing a slumping Steelers defense that has allowed 272.6 passing yards per game since Week 6, sixth-most in the league. He might not have his usual strong running game at his disposal, though. The Steelers rank first against the run by far, allowing 63.2 yards per game.

The Steelers still have plenty of playmakers on defense and could frustrate the still-unproven quarterback. Now isn't the time to take a flier on him in Fantasy.
News: Oakland coach Tom Cable said Monday that QB Jason Campbell will start the game in Week 11 at Pittsburgh. Hes earned it. Cable said. Campbell started the past four games after Bruce Gradkowski injured his throwing shoulder and has led the Raiders to three straight victories.
Analysis: Campbell was expected to go to the bench once Gradkowski was healthy enough to start but it appears that Cable has changed his mind after Campbell was able to put together some wins. Campbell has thrown for 743 yards with five touchdowns and just one interception over the last three games. He is still too inconsistent to trust in a majority of leagues but Fantasy owners should feel comfortable trusting Campbell as a No. 2 Fantasy QB for Week 11 against the Steelers.
News: Raiders coach Tom Cable said on Monday that QB Jason Campbell will likely remain the starting quarterback even if Bruce Gradkowski fully recovers from a shoulder injury. Im probably leaning toward staying with the hot hand, said Cable. Last week he said Gradkowski was his clear cut starter when healthy. Campbell, who has led Oakland to three straight wins, completed 19 of 33 passes for 229 yards with a touchdown and an interception in Week 9 against the Chiefs.
Analysis: Campbell was expected to go to the bench once Gradkowski was healthy enough to start but it appears that Cable has changed his mind after Campbell was able to put together some wins. Campbell posted a passer rating of 8.3 in the first half on Sunday but finished with a rating of 76.5 while leading Oakland to the come-from-behind win. He is still too inconsistent to trust in a majority of leagues but Fantasy owners should keep an eye on the quarterback situation as things could change during the Raiders bye week. If Campbell is the man, he should be considered a No. 2 Fantasy QB for Week 11 against the Steelers.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell had a first half to forget in Week 9 against the Chiefs but bounced back to finish with decent stats. After completing just 4 of 10 passes for 18 yards and an interception before halftime, the 28-year-old finished strong and helped lead Oakland to the 23-20 overtime win. He hit OL Khalif Barnes, who was an eligible receiver on the play, for a 2-yard touchdown strike in the third quarter and led the Raiders on the game-tying and game-winning field goal drives. Campbell, who was just hurt while being sacked by S Eric Berry but stayed in the game, finished 19 of 33 for 229 yards, including 148 of those yards to WR Jacoby Ford.
Analysis: Campbell posted a passer rating of 8.3 in the first half on Sunday but finished with a rating of 76.5 while leading Oakland to their third straight win. Slow starts have killed him this season but he has played tough and persevered through a lot. QB Bruce Gradkowski is expected to be named that starter, once healthy enough to play, but Campbell has made a case for himself over the last couple of weeks. He is still too inconsistent to trust in a majority of leagues but Fantasy owners should keep an eye on the quarterback situation during the bye week to see who will be starting in Week 11 against the Steelers. If Campbell is the man, he should be considered a No. 2 Fantasy QB.
News: Raiders coach Tom Cable announced Thursday that QB Jason Campbell will start Week 9 vs. Kansas City. Cable said he didn't anticipate announcing a decision until Friday, but QB Bruce Gradkowski is still not ready to return from a shoulder injury.
Analysis: This move isn't surprising since Campbell has led Oakland to consecutive wins in impressive fashion. He has passed for 514 yards and four touchdowns in those wins, without throwing an interception. Although, he has had a lot of help from the running game since defenses have had to remain honest and respect the run. The Chiefs are allowing opposing QBs to average 16 Fantasy points per week. All seven opposing QBs have passed for at least 200 yards against K.C., but only three QBs have two touchdowns. Consider Campbell a No. 2 Fantasy QB for Week 9.
News: Raiders coach Tom Cable said he probably won't name a starting quarterback for Week 9 against the Chiefs until Friday. Bruce Gradkowski (right shoulder) was limited in practice, while Jason Campbell practiced full Wednesday. "(Gradkowski) is moving forward rapidly," Cable said. "The question will be if he can do everything that's necessary to play."
Analysis: Cable has said all along that Gradkowski will return to the starting QB job once he is healthy, but the Raiders have won two games in a row and have done so in impressive fashion with Campbell at the helm. Maybe the Raiders will take it easy on Gradkowski as long as Campbell is winning games, but we should know more by Friday. Maybe all the credit doesn't go to Campbell with the way the running game and defense is performing, but Campbell hasn't thrown a pick in two games and has passed for more than 500 yards. If Campbell is starting Week 9, consider him more of a No. 2 Fantasy QB.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell made his third straight start on Sunday and surpassed 300 yards passing for the first time this season. Campbell completed 15 of 27 passes for 310 yards and two touchdowns, leading Oakland to it's second straight victory. He also had four carries for 4 yards. Campbell got the start with Bruce Gradkowski still dealing with an injured shoulder.
Analysis: Campbell and the Raiders host the Chiefs in Week 9, a team that had been allowing 243.8 passing yards per contest. The biggest question now, is if Campbell will continue to start. Coach Tom Cable had said that Gradkowski would resume the starting job once he's healthy, but Campbell has played mistake-free football for two straight weeks. Fantasy owners should view him as a No. 2 QB option, while he's getting some starts, but monitor this quarterback situation closely.
News: Oakland QB Jason Campbell started his third straight game for the Raiders on Sunday. Kyle Boller was his backup, as Bruce Gradkowski was listed as the No. 3 QB as he still deals with a shoulder injury.
Analysis: Campbell is doing the most with his opportunity, but coach Tom Cable has said Gradkowski will resume starting duties once he's 100 percent. That doesn't bode well for Campbell. Fantasy owners should view him as a No. 2 QB option, while he's getting some starts.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell will start a third straight game in Week 8 when Oakland hosts Seattle in Week 8. Bruce Gradkowski (shoulder) didn't practice in full on Friday, which was a requirement of coach Tom Cable for him to regain his starting job.
Analysis: Campbell did his part in Week 7 as Oakland had a record-setting win over AFC West rival Denver, but this is a new week. The Seahawks have one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL, allowing 261.3 yards per contest. Granted Campbell did toss two touchdowns and threw for 204 yards in Week 7, so he doesn't have to have a dominant performance for the Raiders. Fantasy owners should continue to view him as a No. 2 QB option.
News: According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Raiders coach Tom Cable said that if QB Bruce Gradkowski is healthy enough to practice in full on Friday, he'll start on Sunday against the Seahawks. If Gradkowski can't go, then veteran Jason Campbell will likely be named the starter. Gradkowski was only tossing 10-yard passes on the sideline on Thursday, so he has a bit more to go. "(Gradkowski) is much better, starting to throw the ball more, but we haven't done a lot with him yet," Cable said.
Analysis: Fantasy owners will know on Friday who will be the starting quarterback for Raider Nation. If Campbell does get the nod, it will be his second straight start and third of the season. Campbell did his part in Week 7 as Oakland had a record-setting win over AFC West rival Denver, but this is a new week. The Seahawks have one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL, allowing 261.3 yards per contest. Granted Campbell did toss two touchdowns and threw for 204 yards in Week 7, so he doesn't have to have a dominant performance for the Raiders. Once a decision is made, if Campbell gets another game under center, Fantasy owners should continue to view him as a No. 2 QB option.
News:Jason Campbell sure acts like he's going to be the Oakland Raiders' starting quarterback Week 8, even if coach Tom Cable isn't saying so. Campbell and third-stringer Kyle Boller split reps with Oakland's first team offense in practice Wednesday while Bruce Gradkowski remains limited with a sore throwing shoulder. Campbell also addressed the media from a podium adjacent to the Raiders' practice fields, a duty generally reserved for the starter. "Hey, I always prepare myself to be the starter," Campbell said with a laugh when asked if he is starting against Seattle on Sunday. "I'm just preparing myself to be ready."
Analysis: In all likelihood, Campbell will make his second consecutive start and third overall this season. If he does -- Cable said he'll make the announcement by Friday -- Campbell has a message for any of his teammates still thinking about the Raiders' record-setting victory over the Denver Broncos last week: Get over it. That might be a tough sell, particularly to a franchise that has been starved for success of any kind over the last seven years. The Raiders haven't won back-to-back games since 2008 and have a recent history of following up big wins with equally big flops. Acquired from Washington in an offseason trade, Campbell has had an up and down year so far. He was named the team's starter in training camp, lost the job to Gradkowski in Week 2 then came back when Gradkowski got hurt against San Diego. Campbell thrived in Week 7, passing for 204 yards and two touchdowns. It will be interesting to see if he can have success in back-to-back weeks. Consider Campbell at best a No. 2 Fantasy QB, if he is named the starter as expected.
News: Oakland wasn't sure who was going to be able to run the show in Denver in Week 7 as QB Jason Campbell was named the starter before the game. He injured his knee last week, but played through the pain. Campbell found tight end Zach Miller uncovered for a 43-yard walk-in touchdown after linebackers Joe Mays and D.J. Williams both bit on the pump fake for a 7-0 lead less than five minutes into the game. Campbell finished the game completing 12 of his 20 pass attempts for 204 yards and two touchdowns. Campbell had a touchdown run taken back because of an illegal motion penalty late in the first quarter. He had one scramble for 15 yards to his credit as well. He was pulled at the start of the fourth quarter with the Raiders well ahead of the Broncos, giving backup Kyle Boller some mop-up duty.
Analysis: Campbell had his best game of the year in Week 7 and should be in the driver's seat to start for the Raiders next week when the Seahawks come into town. Seattle has one of the worst pass defenses in the league as they entered Week 7 giving up 290.8 yards through the air. Fantasy owners of Campbell should watch him through the week to make sure his knee is fine and consider him a No. 2 QB option next week versus the Seahawks. It is a favorable matchup, but there are better options out there.
News: Oakland waited to name a starting quarterback until gametime in Week 7 -- Jason Campbell got the nod for Tom Cable. He was listed as questionable all week after injuring his knee last week.
Analysis: Campbell played through pain in Week 6 and it was evident. He has not had a good season thus far and the Denver defense -- despite injuries to it's secondary -- are still only allowing 209.8 yards per game through the air. Campbell will likely be on a short leash as well, so he is not a recommended Fantasy start for Week 7.
News: Oakland QB Jason Campbell will start behind center for the Raiders in Week 7 at Denver. Campbell was listed as questionable with a knee injury for the game but NFL Network is reporting that he's recovered from the injury he suffered last week.
Analysis: Campbell played in pain in Week 6 and boy did it show. He was absolutely terrible in that start and that makes it hard for Fantasy owners to even think about using him in Week 7 against the Broncos. Denver has allowed 209.8 yards per game through the air this season, but Campbell has thrown for just 509 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions in his four games this year. As the starter, Campbell is not a recommended Fantasy option.
News: Raiders coach Tom Cable said Friday that QB Jason Campbell (knee) looked better at practice and thinks he'll start in Week 7 at Denver if Campbell doesn't suffer any setbacks. "I thought Jason was pretty close today, so if it stays this way, I think it would be him," Cable said. "Again, with no setbacks." In one career game against the Broncos, Campbell completed 17 of 26 pass attempts for 193 yards and a touchdown, but that was when he was with Washington.
Analysis: Campbell was able to play through the pain in Week 6 against the 49ers, but will remain a risky Fantasy option if he can do the same in Week 7. Denver has allowed 209.8 yards per game through the air this season, but Campbell has thrown for just 509 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions in his four games this year. Campbell will likely get the nod if Gradkowski can't go, but the leash will be short. He's never been a solid Fantasy option and should be avoided in Week 7.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell was able to practice on Thursday despite a knee injury, but his coach is not sure if he would have been able to play if the game was today. "I don't know that he could have (played) today," coach Tom Cable said. "He could go back, call plays, throw it. But to run and do the things he had to do, it would be pretty iffy." If QB Bruce Gradkowski (sprained right AC joint) can't play at Denver and Campbell recovers sufficiently from his sprained knee, Campbell will start over Kyle Boller, Cable said Wednesday. Boller is the only healthy quarterback on the roster. Campbell shared first-team snaps with Boller on Wednesday. In one career game against the Broncos, Campbell completed 17 of 26 pass attempts for 193 yards and a touchdown, but that was when he was on Washington.
Analysis: Campbell was able to play through the pain in Week 6 against the 49ers, but with no guarantee he'll be ready to go in Week 7, he remains a risky option. Denver has allowed 209.8 yards per game through the air this season, but Campbell has thrown for just 509 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions in his four games this year. Campbell will likely get the nod if Gradkowski can't go, but the leash will be short. He's never been a solid Fantasy option and should be avoided in Week 7, despite the possibility of being named the starter.
News: Oakland coach Tom Cable said naming a starting quarterback this week could be a game-time decision for Sunday's Week 7 matchup in Denver. If QB Bruce Gradkowski (sprained right AC joint) can't play at Denver and Jason Campbell recovers sufficiently from his sprained knee, Campbell will start over Kyle Boller, Cable said. Gradkowski was limited to "some real easy" throwing Wednesday, while Campbell said his sprained knee was "sore." Boller is the only healthy quarterback on the roster. Campbell shared first-team snaps with Boller on Wednesday. In one career game against the Broncos, Campbell completed 17 of 26 pass attempts for 193 yards and a touchdown, but that was when he was on Washington.

News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell, who sprained a knee in Week 6, shared first-team snaps with Kyle Boller during the portion of Wednesday's practice that was open to the media. Oakland visits Denver in Week 7.
Analysis: Campbell played through this knee problem on Sunday, so he's probably going to be Tom Cable's choice as No. 1 against the Broncos. Unfortunately, Campbell has spent most of his career being an ineffective Fantasy QB, so owners will want to continue to steer clear of him if they can.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell told Comcast Sports Network Bay Area that he may have a meniscus tear in his left knee. Campbell injured himself during Week 6 against the 49ers, but remained in the game. He had an MRI on Monday which revealed no structural damage. Raiders coach Tom Cable he would make a decision on who will start at quarterback on Wednesday.
Analysis: Fantasy owners should continue to monitor the situation over the course of the week to see if he will start. However, even if he does start, Campbell has limited Fantasy appeal at best and is not a player that we recommend activating even during bye weeks.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell suffered a knee injury in the first half Sunday against the 49ers in Week 6 and underwent an MRI on Monday. Campbell played the entire game, completing 8 of 21 passes for 83 yards and two interceptions. He started in place of the injured Bruce Gradkowski (shoulder). The knee is fine. He does have a little bit of a sprain there, but nothing at this point that looks serious, coach Tom Cable said.
Analysis: We'll keep you updated on Campbell and Gradkowski heading into Week 7 at Denver. If Campbell starts against the Broncos he would only be considered a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB at best.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell got the start in Week 6 against the 49ers with Bruce Gradkowski (shoulder) injured, but the 28-year-old did play line a front-line quarterback. He completed just 8 of 21 passes for 83 yards and threw two interceptions in the 17-9 loss. He went the entire second and third quarter without a completion and was sacked twice. His first interception came in the second quarter when LB Manny Lawson stepped in front of a pass meant for TE Zach Miller. His second turnover wasn't entirely his fault as he hit WR Jacoby Ford right between the numbers but the ball bounced into the air where LB Takeo Spikes was waiting. Campbell also ran the ball seven times for 21 yards in the defeat.
Analysis: Campbell went 35:21 of the game between completions in Week 6 and did not play like a guy that wants to regain his starting job. He led the Raiders to the win last week but Fantasy owners are not thinking about that after Sunday's performance. He took a few shots downfield but was errant on throws that would have been big gains. It looks as though Gradkowski will be the starter again, once healthy, but owners should stayed tuned for the latest updates. Oakland will play Denver in Week 7 but Campbell should not be starting in any formats at this point. Leave him on the bench, or waivers, until he proves worthy enough of activation.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell, who was named the starter for Week 6 against the 49ers earlier in the week, will make his first start since being benched after halftime in the second game of the season. Starter Bruce Gradkowski (right shoulder) was listed as the third-string, emergency quarterback after missing practice all week. San Francisco ranks 21st in the league, giving up an average of 227.6 passing yards per game through the first five weeks, and has allowed an average of 19 Fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks.
Analysis: Campbell led the Raiders to the win last week and looked better after coming of the bench in place of the injured Gradkowski. He gets the nod against the 49ers but there is no word yet on who will start for Oakland once both quarterbacks are healthy. Coach Tom Cable will likely ride whoever has the hot hand so this could be a huge week for Campbell. In one career game against San Francisco, the 28-year-old completed 18 of 30 passes for 156 yards and one touchdown. Campbell has gotten a second opportunity to show what he can do but will be nothing more than a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB for Week 6 against the 49ers.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell was confirmed as the Week 6 starter on Friday as fellow QB Bruce Gradkowski (shoulder) missed practice for a third straight day. Campbell, who was the starting quarterback coming into the season, threw for 159 yards and a touchdown last week and will face a 49ers defense that has not fared well against the pass so far this year. San Francisco ranks 21st in the league, giving up an average of 227.6 passing yards per game through the first five weeks, and has allowed an average of 19 Fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks.

News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell looks to be in line to start Week 6 against the 49ers after Bruce Gradkowski was unable to practice on Thursday due to an injury to his throwing shoulder. San Francisco ranks 21st in the league, giving up an average of 227.6 passing yards per game through the first five weeks, and has allowed an average of 19 Fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks.

News: Raiders coach Tom Cable said on Monday that QB Bruce Gradkowski, who sprained the AC joint in his throwing shoulder in Week 5 against the Chargers, would start in Week 6 against the 49ers, if healthy. He is undergoing an MRI on Monday to reveal the extent of the injury. Jason Campbell replaced Gradkowski and led Oakland to a win in Week 5. Campbell chose to shy away from the question whether he did enough against San Diego in place of the injured Gradkowski to regain the starting job. Thats the coaches decision," Campbell said. "My goal is to keep preparing each and every week and keep getting ready and play my game.
Analysis: Campbell said he was putting too much pressure on himself instead of just relaxing and playing the game early in the season. Thats one of the things I learned over the weeks when I was sitting out and doing the self-evaluation, he said. Campbell went 13 of 18 for 159 yards and a touchdown in Week 5. If he does start Week 6 against the 49ers, he is nothing more than a potential bye-week Fantasy replacement, but we recommend other options before settling on Campbell.
News: Oakland QB Jason Campbell may have earned the starting job back, at least for the near future, after his performance in the Week 5 win over the Chargers. Campbell entered the game after Bruce Gradkowski re-injured his shoulder and led the Raiders to a late-game comeback victory. Campbell, who went 13 for 18 for 159 yards, connected with tight end Zach Miller in the back of the end zone for a 1-yard TD pass with around a minute to play in the third quarter. That made the score 24-22 San Diego and Campbell then led a drive to take the lead that ended with a rushing touchdown. The 2-point conversion failed but the Raiders won anyway. I thought he managed the game as well as weve seen him, obviously," coach Tom Cable said. "He played just like you would hope he would. Campbell rushed four times for 7 yards.
Analysis: Campbell started the first two games this season for coach Tom Cable and was promptly benched after going 30 for 52 for 267 yards with a touchdown, two interceptions and countless hard hits and sacks taken. Campbell was still a punching bag in the Week 5 game, however, and we're not sure how much you can pin the victory on his shoulders. He's likely to start in Week 6 at San Francisco but Fantasy owners should monitor that situation closely. The starter might be worth a look as an injury replacement or last-minute option. Campbell would not really be too recommended a Fantasy option, however.
News: Raiders coach Tom Cable confirmed that QB Bruce Gradkowski, who replaced Jason Campbell after halftime in Week 2 and led the Raiders to a 16-14 win over St. Louis, will start Sunday at Arizona. "(Campbell) was disappointed, but if I understand him and what he's about, he'll battle with this," Cable said. "Like I told them both, we are going to need both of them."
Analysis: It only took the Raiders a couple of weeks to see that Campbell isn't their answer at QB for now. Redskins fans will be wishing their management had come to a similar decision a long time before they eventually did. Campbell might end up getting his job back at some point this season, maybe even as soon as Sunday, but for now he remains just worth stashing away in deeper Fantasy formats if you must own him at all.
News: Coach Tom Cable made one declaration about his starting quarterback a day after backup Bruce Gradkowski relieved Jason Campbell and rallied the Oakland Raiders to a victory - and it wasn't about who will start this week. "There isn't going to be a controversy," Cable said Monday. "I'll make a good decision, the right decision, and we'll go from there." Cable said he had a good idea of what he planned to do, but would wait until Wednesday before revealing his decision about who would start for the Raiders (1-1) in Arizona on Sunday.
Analysis: Cable said he would consult with his assistants on the decision. He made the move to a backup much earlier this season than a year ago with JaMarcus Russell. He waited until the seventh game to pull Russell for the first time and didn't make the switch to Gradkowski as starter until the 10th game of the season. Campbell struggled as a starter with the Redskins before being moved this season and his current situation makes him an undesirable Fantasy option -- starter or not.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell completed 8 of 15 passes for 87 yards in the first half of Week 2 against the Rams but did not start the second half. He threw an interception with 22 seconds left in the first half and Bruce Gradkowski took over after halftime. "I was surprised," Campbell said. "We were down 7-3. We had been moving the ball. We just stalled when we got to the red zone. But at the same time, it was a decision that they made." Gradkowski led the Raiders to the come-back 16-14 win over St. Louis.
Analysis: Campbell threw a bad interception right before the half and was seen standing on the sideline while Gradkowski took over. He was erratic on a few throws and obviously the Raiders did not like what they saw from the 28-year-old. Fantasy owners should stay tuned to see if this is a permanent move or simply something to light a fire under Campbell. Coach Tom Cable said he hadn't made any decisions about that just yet so Fantasy owners should stay tuned. When starting, Campbell is a No. 2 Fantasy QB.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell faces a Rams defense in Week 2 that he should be familiar with. Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo used to be the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants, who used to play Campbell and his former team, the Washington Redskins, twice a year. Campbell had 180 yards through the air in Week 1 on 22 of 37 passing with a touchdown and an interception. In his last four games against Spagnuolo's defense, Campbell has completed just 57 percent of his passes for two touchdowns and one interception. "I always thought he was a challenge to defend. He throws the ball real well, yet he can beat you with his feet," Spagnuolo said. "He's athletic, a big guy and has played a lot of football in the NFL." The Rams gave up 266 yards passing and one touchdown in Week 1 against the Cardinals.
Analysis: Campbell is no stranger to Spagnuolo but might have a bigger problem as offensive lineman Robert Gallery could miss the Week 2 matchup with a hamstring injury. Campbell did not look like an All-Pro in Week 1 but he had some passes dropped and played a much better defense. St. Louis gave up a ton of yards through the air in their opener so look for the 28-year-old to bounce back. Fantasy owners should consider Campbell as a No. 2 option for Week 2 against the Rams.
News: Oakland QB Jason Campbell did not have a solid Week 1 performance against the Titans in a 38-13 defeat. Campbell didn't find any more solace in Oakland than he had in Washington as he was repeatedly put on his behind during the game by the Titans' defense. Campbell had just 14 yards passing late in the first half and finished with 180 yards on 22 of 37 passing with a touchdown and an interception. The touchdown pass came very late in the game and with it already out of reach as Campbell hit Darren McFadden, who stretched out and hit the pylon in the corner of the end zone to score. Campbell also rushed six times for 34 yards as his best plays came when he couldn't find a receiver.
Analysis: Campbell had several balls batted down at the line of scrimmage and almost caught one of them. Actually, he did make a catch in the game as he gained one yard when Johnnie Lee Higgins threw a screen pass back to him. Campbell made far too many mistakes, especially early in the game. The Raiders committed two delay of game penalties that were largely his fault. He dropped several snaps, threw into the offensive line and even slid early, failing to pick up an easy first down. Campbell has to get his head in the game. After he does that, he'll need to find offensive weapons to throw to. Bottom line is that the Raiders need help and, although they play the Rams in Week 2, Campbell can only be considered a No. 2 Fantasy QB option, at best, for that game.
News: Oakland QB Jason Campbell should be healthy enough to start in Week 1 in Tennessee against the Titans, making his debut with his new team. "It's exciting," Campbell said Wednesday. "Every year, the first game is always different, this year especially because I am with a new team. There's a lot of new faces on this team, and a lot of guys trying to establish what we're going to be for the year." Campbell totaled career highs in passing last season with Washington with 3,618 yards and 20 touchdowns and has gone 6-4 as a starter in September with 11 touchdowns and only five interceptions.
Analysis: The Raiders passing attack finished the preseason ranked sixth in the NFL and receiver Louis Murphy attributes that to new coordinator Hue Jackson and his new quarterback. Tennessee was second-worst in the NFL against the pass last season and quarterbacks always seemed to have solid weeks against them. That said, the Titans defense figures to be improved and we still don't trust the Oakland passing attack. Campbell is just 5-7 with 2,317 passing yards, nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 12 games against AFC opponents and we can't call him anything but a lower-end No. 2 Fantasy option for Week 1.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell sidestepped a question on Sunday about his recovery from a stinger and right wrist injury. My job is just to be ready come first snap (against Tennessee), Campbell said after practice Sunday. Every day is a preparation day. I cant worry about all the other stuff.
Analysis: The Raiders have been mum on a lot of follow-up health questions this summer, including that of RB Michael Bush, who is coming off thumb surgery. But it seems the fact Campbell has been practicing with the Raiders signals he will be on track to face the Titans in Week 1. Campbell is in his first year in the AFC, having been in the NFC his entire pro career. He has never faced the Titans or an opponent from the AFC South. He has gone 6-4 in 10 September starts, throwing 2,292 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions. But he is just 5-7 with 2,317 passing yards, nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 12 games against AFC opponents. The Titans did have the second-worst pass defense (258.7 ypg) in the NFL last season, but it's still hard to view Campbell has much more than a No. 2 Fantasy QB for Week 1.
News: Oakland QB Jason Campbell was not active for the Raiders final preseason game against the Seahawks. Despite not playing on Thursday, it seems like the Raiders are happy with their new starting quarterback and denied rumors they were interested in trading for Arizona's Matt Leinart. "Right now I can't talk about the injuries or anything, but come the Tennessee game, I'll be ready," Campbell said after the game.
Analysis: Campbell sustained a stinger and injured his right wrist last week against San Francisco, but is expected to start the season opener in Tennessee on Sept. 12. With his job secure, there was no reason to start him in the preseason finale. The Raiders have some young, talented receivers, but they are all unproven. Depending on how well they mesh early on in the season will determine Campbell's true Fantasy worth. On Draft Day he should be considered a late-round option to serve as a reserve QB.
News: It appears Jason Campbell's job as the Raiders' starting quarterback is safe. The Oakland Raiders have plenty of roster moves they need to make before the start of the season. Apparently trading for Matt Leinart isn't one of them. The Raiders denied a report from ESPN on Wednesday that said the team has had discussions about trading with Arizona for Leinart. "The Raiders have never discussed trading for Leinart," the team said in a statement. "The Raiders are very happy about their quarterback situation."
Analysis: Oakland acquired Campbell in an offseason trade with Washington and is pleased with what he's brought as the starter. Campbell led Oakland to touchdowns on the opening drives of the last two exhibition games. He sustained a stinger and an injured right wrist last week against San Francisco but is expected to be ready for the season opener Sept. 12 in Tennessee. Campbell should get to air the ball out a bit more than he did in Washington, but he still has a lot of unproven receivers, so we can't get overly excited heading into the season. He is at best a late-round Fantasy option as a reserve QB.
News: Oakland starting QB Jason Campbell practiced on Monday, only two days after suffering a stinger and injuring his right wrist against the 49ers in preseason action. The new Raiders passer underwent an MRI test on his wrist Sunday. He will likely get checked out again later this week before being considered for action on Thursday against Seattle. "He's a fighter, and he's a great leader," said SS Tyvon Branch. "He showed that today coming out and practicing." Raiders coach Tom Cable said he hasn't decided whether Campbell will play against the Seahawks. "And it has nothing to do with injuries," Cable said. "It has to do with what we're going to do with our team."
Analysis: Campbell was carted off the field on Saturday and it was definitely a scary moment as the Raiders brought him in to start this season. Still, Campbell has never proven the ability to lead an NFL franchise after his years in Washington can only be considered a failure. Don't draft Campbell as anything more than a late-round flier in deeper leagues. His wrist injury also makes him a risky pick for the start of the season.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell suffered more than just a second-quarter stinger Saturday night against the 49ers. He also fell on his throwing wrist on the previous series, coach Tom Cable said Sunday. Cable said the wrist injury is "probably" a bigger concern. Campbell underwent an MRI on Sunday and will be evaluated again later this week. "Usually I recover pretty fast," Campbell said after the game. "Right now there's no timetable. The thing is just to improve and continue to keep getting better. We don't know the timetable or anything, but at the same time, I haven't really missed any time before."
Analysis: Injury is just adding further insult in what has been a terrible preseason for Campbell, who is completing just 56.1 percent of his passes. He has thrown for 312 yards and no touchdowns in three games. He also has one interception. Even though he is getting a fresh start with Oakland, Campbell still looks like the same inconsistent QB from Washington. Don't draft Campbell as anything more than a late-round flier in deeper leagues. His wrist injury also makes him a risky pick for the start of the season.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell was knocked out of Saturday's preseason loss to the 49ers in the second quarter when he sustained a 'stinger', a nerve injury caused by trauma to the neck and shoulder, as the result of a sack. Campbell was down for about five minutes before leaving in the passenger seat of a cart. Before exiting, Campbell completed 6 of 8 passes for 93 yards. "It felt a lot worse at the time that it happened, but, thank God, they don't think it's going to be really, really serious," Campbell told the San Jose Mercury News. "But at the same time, it's something we've got to take care of before the season starts."
Analysis: Coach Tom Cable expects Campbell to be fine for the season opener in a couple of weeks, so his Fantasy owners in deeper formats shouldn't be too concerned about this injury, even though it looked pretty serious at first. While Campbell is an interesting Fantasy proposition in 2010 thanks to his move out of Washington, he remains no more than a low-end No. 2 option in deeper leagues.
News: QB Jason Campbell enters another NFL season dealing with another offensive coordinator, only this time he is with the Raiders. During his tenure with the Redskins, Campbell had to learn a new offense as many times as he changed his pants. Still, he remains optimistic entering his first year with Raiders offensive coordinator Hue Jackson. "He pushes everybody each and every play," Campbell said. "There's not a day off, there's not a play off. In order to be a champion in life, you've got to work like one. That's what he preaches every day."
Analysis: Campbell might be praising his offensive coordinator, but we haven't seen very good results in the preseason. Campbell is completing just 51.5 percent of his passes. He has no touchdowns and one interception in two games. A lot of folks are eager to see what Campbell can do now that he is out of a West Coast offense. However, the Raiders still have a lot of questions at wide receiver, so everyone needs to keep their expectations in check. Campbell is at best a No. 2 Fantasy QB to open the season.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell finished 10 of 20 for 170 yards with an interception and a 1-yard touchdown dive while playing the entire first half at Chicago on Saturday. Campbell made the most of his short-area targets, including Michael Bush on a nice 24-yard catch-and-run and TE Zach Miller, who caught three passes for 32 yards. He took a shot in the game but seemed OK following the hit. He also settled down after his first preseason game made him nervous. "The last game I had a couple of jitters before the game started, the first time with a new team, but this time I was just out there playing football," Campbell said.
Analysis: Campbell will be an upgrade for the Raiders at quarterback, but he's far from a reliable Fantasy starter. Consider him a low-end backup option or a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB in leagues that start two passers. Until his receiving corps can be consistent and effective deep, he's going to post mediocre stats.
News: Oakland's new starting quarterback Jason Campbell never came close to scoring on his four drives during Thursday's preseason opener against the Cowboys. Then again, he was facing a defense that came out with regular-season intensity, with linebackers Bradie James and Keith Brooking treating Campbell as if he was still with the rival Redskins. Campbell's first two drives went three-and-out. When his final series got rolling, the top nickel unit came back for a fourth-and-1 and Campbell's pass sailed way over his target, tight end Zach Miller. "It was the first time in a long time that I had some jitters in pregame warmups," said Campbell, who was 7 of 13 for 49 yards. "Once the game started, I was OK. I felt comfortable. I'm just trying to learn my teammates."
Analysis: Campbell converted only one third down out of six. He was sacked once and didn't have a turnover. He also indoctrinated himself as a Raiders QB by throwing deep twice, once down each sideline; the first was broken up by a rookie free agent, the other was caught out of bounds. It's probably going to take Campbell some time to get adjusted to his new teammates. It's not like the Raiders have seasoned receivers either, so the 2010 season could be a trying campaign in Oakland. We think he'll be a serviceable No. 2 Fantasy QB worth a late-round pick in deeper leagues.
News: Raiders owner Al Davis told Sirius NFL Radio that QB Jason Campbell is more than just an upgrade for his team's offense -- he's the guy who will lead the team back to the postseason. Campbell was acquired this offseason to replace JaMarcus Russell as the Raiders' starting quarterback, a job he was handed on the first day of training camp. Campbell has looked sharp this summer but Davis sees greater things. "I see this young Jason Campbell as a football player like I saw Jim Plunkett," he said. "He has everything. He was 13-0 in college, at Auburn, he can throw up the field, he can run, he's big, he's smart. I really predict great things for him. I hope he doesn't let me down. I don't think he will."
Analysis: Davis went on to say that he thinks this year's Raiders team is a lot like their 1980 team which went to win the Super Bowl. It doesn't matter whether or not you agree with Davis as much as you accept the fact that he's the owner of the team and he's clearly enthusiastic about Campbell's season. We think he'll be a serviceable No. 2 Fantasy QB worth a late-round pick in deeper leagues this summer.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell has spent much of his career running versions of the West Coast offense, which rely on short, high-percentage passes, but he's showing good touch on deep passes in training camp. "He's got a nice feel for throwing the deep ball and getting it up on time," coach Tom Cable said.
Analysis: Campbell is getting adjusted to his new team and a new offensive coordinator -- which he seems to have just about every year. Campbell is coming off his first 20-touchdown campaign and is still developing as a quarterback. We just aren't sure how much success he can have in Oakland since the Raiders still have a lot of unknowns in the passing game. You are not going to want to consider Campbell more than a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB on Draft Day.
News: Raiders QB Jason Campbell is excited to be named the starter heading into training camp. "I just came here to work hard and give everything I've got to do what I can to help the team win," Campbell said. "It gives us the opportunity to grow together and get to know each other." His teammates have been impressed with his work ethic. "Oh man, it was great," WR Louis Murphy said. "He came in, commanded the huddle, very sharp on the plays, really spoke loudly in the huddle, so it was good to be able to follow our quarterback." WR Chaz Schilens said the switch from JaMarcus Russell to Campbell has been productive so far. "I feel we've got a good guy, a dependable guy, a guy who's going to work hard, who will be there for us every day," Schilens said. "He's not going to shy away from anything."
Analysis: Campbell has the chance to make the Raiders competitive this season, which is something that rarely happened under Russell. We consider Campbell a No. 2 Fantasy QB, and he's worth drafting with a late-round pick in all leagues.
News: Coach Tom Cable says offseason acquisition Jason Campbell will open training camp as the Raiders' starting quarterback. Cable spoke on Wednesday at the Raiders' first full day of camp. The team has meetings scheduled all day long and will begin practice on Thursday. Campbell will open with the first string. Cable says he is going that direction because Bruce Gradkowski missed the past three months with a torn pectoral muscle. Cable said after acquiring Campbell from Washington during the draft in April that there will be a competition at quarterback.
Analysis: We never had any doubt that Campbell would open training camp as the starter, and he has the chance to play well for the Raiders this year. Consider Campbell a No. 2 Fantasy QB, and he's worth a late-round pick in all leagues.
News: The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Raiders are excited about new QB Jason Campbell this season. He is entering training camp as the No. 1 QB, and he will replace the departed JaMarcus Russell. "He's a good quarterback," Oakland WR Chaz Schilens said of Campbell. "He's smart, throws a good ball and I have felt nothing but positive energy since he's been here."
Analysis: Campbell has the chance to make the Raiders competitive this season, which is something that rarely happened under Russell. We consider Campbell a No. 2 Fantasy QB, and he's worth drafting with a late-round pick in all leagues.
News: Raiders QB Bruce Gradkowski is still recovering from a torn left pectoral muscle, but he's out of the sling and making progress. "I'll be ready to go by camp, no question -- maybe even before then," he said Wednesday. Gradkowski, who went 2-2 as a starter for the Raiders last year before suffering season-ending knee injuries, said he expects to have a legitimate shot at the starting job, even though the team traded for Jason Campbell. "I don't think anyone deserves to automatically be the guy," Gradkowski said. "We have to earn it."
Analysis: We expect Campbell to be the starter for the Raiders this season. Keep an eye on what develops if Gradkowski is given a shot to compete for the job, but plan on Campbell being under center for Oakland in Week 1. We like Campbell as a No. 2 Fantasy QB, and he's worth drafting with a late-round pick in all leagues.
News: The Raiders have released former No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell after three unproductive and highly paid seasons. Senior executive John Herrera said the move was made Thursday and that "we wish him well." The decision comes less than two weeks after Oakland acquired Jason Campbell from Washington to take over at quarterback. Russell will now likely be considered the biggest draft bust in NFL history. He will have been paid more than $39 million by the Raiders, while producing only seven wins as a starter. He lost his starting job midway through last season. His career has been hampered by a rookie holdout, poor work habits, being overweight and the lack of productive players around him.
Analysis: This was a move many were expecting when Campbell was acquired from Washington, so there's no surprises. We view Campbell as a No. 2 Fantasy QB, and he's worth a late-round pick in all leagues. He's clearly the starter in Oakland, and he should do what Russell wasn't able to -- develop targets in Zach Miller, Chaz Schilens and Louis Murphy.
News: New Raiders QB Jason Campbell might not have the starting job locked up yet, but it doesn't seem like it's a far-fetched proposition. Campbell did well with the reps he had in Oakland's recent minicamp, displaying good mobility and a good arm. Campbell also said it shouldn't take him long to learn his new team's offense because he had to learn so many different offenses at Auburn and with the Redskins. "The most important thing for me is getting used to all the guys around me," he said. "Secondly, I've done a lot of the things we're doing in the offense, so it's not like I'm starting over."
Analysis: We expect Campbell to start for the Raiders. He's the best QB on the roster, and the chance to start again after being replaced by Donovan McNabb in Washington gives Campbell increased Fantasy value. We see Campbell as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB. The Raiders don't have a great receiving corps, but Campbell will improve Zach Miller, Chaz Schilens and Louis Murphy. Plan on drafting Campbell with a late-round pick in deep leagues.
News: The Redskins traded QB Jason Campbell to Oakland on Saturday in exchange for the Raiders' fourth-round pick in the 2012 draft. "I'm just glad the situation is over and I'm moving forward," Campbell said in the Washington Post. "Sometimes change comes in your life, change comes in your career, and you've just got to be ready to adapt." The Redskins were able to part with Campbell after acquiring Donovan McNabb in a trade with Philadelphia earlier this offseason. Campbell agreed to a contract with Oakland that will pay him $3.14 million in 2010, plus a $100,000 workout bonus and $4.5 million in 2011, according to a league source. Campbell expects to start immediately as he joins an unimpressive group of quarterbacks that includes JaMarcus Russell, Charlie Frye, Kyle Boller and Bruce Gradkowski. "I'm going to go out to Oakland and give 110 percent and do everything I can to help that organization become a winning team," Campbell said.
Analysis: We expect Campbell to start for the Raiders, and Russell could be released prior to training camp. He's the best QB on the roster, and the chance to start again after being replaced by McNabb gives Campbell increased Fantasy value. We see Campbell as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB. The Raiders don't have a great receiving corps, but Campbell will improve Zach Miller, Chaz Schilens, Louis Murphy and Darren McFadden. Plan on drafting Campbell with a late-round pick in deep leagues.
News: Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said Thursday night during the NFL Draft that QB Jason Campbell could be traded so Washington could acquire more draft picks. "There are always people inquiring," Campbell said. "Nothing has been finalized at this time. There have been a lot of people talking, and that's part of the process. When I know something I'll obviously share it."
Analysis: Campbell has minimal Fantasy value coming into 2010 now that the Redskins have acquired Donovan McNabb. Keep an eye on what happens with Campbell and if he's traded, but don't plan on drafting him in any leagues this season.
News: QB Jason Campbell has signed his $3.1 million tender with the Washington Redskins, taking him off the market as a restricted free agent while leaving open the possibility of a trade. Campbell was given permission to explore a trade after Donovan McNabb was acquired from Philadelphia last week. Campbell couldn't find a team that would make a suitable offer to him as a restricted free agent, so he signed the tender Monday. The move puts the onus back on the Redskins to find a trade partner for Campbell. Their best chance might came during next week's draft. Campbell has stopped attending voluntary workouts at Redskins Park and is not expected to attend this weekend's three-day voluntary minicamp.
Analysis: While there are some potential teams out there for Campbell, it might not be in a starter's role. Even when he had the starting job for the Redskins, Campbell was a low-end Fantasy quarterback. Depending where he ends up could effect his value. Keep tabs on the situation and see where he ends up before adding him to your team on Draft Day.
News: After the Redskins traded for QB Donovan McNabb and effectively named him their starting quarterback, the team has told QB Jason Campbell to stay away from the facility during workouts and also has given him permission to seek a trade. Campbell, currently a restricted free agent, will look to land with a team where he can start this season.
Analysis: Potential fits for Campbell as a starter include the Raiders and Bills, and teams like the Panthers and Browns could also be interested in having Campbell come in and compete. But frankly, Campbell is at the point where he's not guaranteed a starting job and therefore won't register as anything more than a middle-end No. 2 Fantasy QB heading into the preseason. We'll keep you posted on his progress, but don't expect to draft him.
News: The Philadelphia Eagles traded QB Donovan McNabb to the Washington Redskins for a pair of draft picks. The Eagles will receive a second-round pick (37th overall) in this month's NFL draft and either a third- or fourth-round pick next year. It is believed that McNabb will take over the starting job from Jason Campbell while Kevin Kolb replaces McNabb under center in Philadelphia.
Analysis: We expect McNabb to get a grip on Mike Shanahan's version of the West Coast offense pretty quickly and be a moderate improvement over Campbell. This spells doom for Campbell's Fantasy value so long as he remains with the Redskins as he'll back up McNabb and won't see significant playing time unless McNabb misses action. Campbell is no longer worth drafting.
News: The NFL Network reports that Redskins coach Mike Shanahan indicated at the NFL owner's meeting in Orlando, FL that there would be an open competition between Jason Campbell and newly signed Rex Grossman for the starting job. "There's competition at every position," Shanahan said about the quarterbacks. "Just because a guy comes in as a maybe third, fourth or fifth guy, it doesn't mean he doesn't have a chance to compete. But Rex Grossman was with (offensive coordinator) Kyle (Shanahan) in Houston, he understands the system. ... We're going to get as much steps as we can and have all these guys compete."
Analysis: We still expect Campbell to start for the Redskins in 2010 if the options are between him and Grossman. That said, the Redskins will likely add another QB to the mix, likely through the draft. Keep an eye on who starts for the Redskins, but that QB would only be considered a No. 2 Fantasy QB at best this season.
News: A person familiar with the decision says the Redskins have put a first-round tender on restricted free agent quarterback Jason Campbell. The tender is worth about $3.1 million, the person told The Associated Press, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the move hasn't been announced by the team. The move means other teams would have to give up a first-round pick to sign Campbell if the Redskins don't agree to match the offer. New Redskins coach Mike Shanahan had said he would tender Campbell but hasn't committed to him as his starter.
Analysis: We expect Campbell to be with the Redskins in 2010, but we're not sure if he will remain the starter. Campbell had a career-best season in 2009, completing 64.5 percent of his passes (327 of 507) for 3,618 yards (7.14 yards per attempt) with 20 touchdowns and 15 interceptions, adding 236 rush yards, a rushing touchdown and three fumbles lost. Campbell said in an interview with CBSSports.com that he's excited about playing for Shanahan as well as his son, Kyle, who spent last season in the same role with the Texans. But he's no better than a No. 2 Fantasy QB.
News: Mike Shanahan said that the Washington Redskins plan to tender Jason Campbell, their starting QB the past 3.5 seasons, before free agency begins March 5. But Shanahan wouldn't commit to Campbell as his starter. Shanahan said he's still evaluating Campbell, whom Redskins owner Dan Snyder tried to replace in failed attempts to acquire Jay Cutler and Mark Sanchez last offseason. Shanahan spoke to the media from the scouting combine in Indianapolis for the first time in the 51 days since his introductory press conference as Redskins coach. The coach said that his son, offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, will call the plays whether the quarterback is Campbell or perhaps a rookie if they take a QB in the draft. Shanahan didn't rule out taking a quarterback with the fourth overall pick in April's draft despite major needs on the offensive line which he called "a battered group."
"You look at the offense he ran in Denver, and then the offense his son ran in Houston and how Matt Schaub took his game to another level, I definitely feel like we have the right leadership to turn our team around," Campbell said. We view Campbell as a No. 2 QB in 2010, and he's worth a late-round pick.
News:Jason Campbell expects to stay in Washington after meeting with new Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan, ESPN reports. Campbell is believed to be on the hot seat after another up-and-down season in 2009. The Redskins are believed to be one of several teams looking at rookie quarterbacks in the draft, which might make Campbell more of a stopgap quarterback than anything else. But the five-year veteran expects his tenure in Washington to continue. "The plan is that I'm going to be here," said Campbell. "[Shanahan] told me that he liked how I'd handled everything over the past couple of years and the whole conversation was real positive. But we really didn't talk much about the past. When a team goes 4-12, most of the bad publicity goes to the quarterback. But I was still able to put up one of my best seasons despite all the turmoil."
Analysis: Campbell also spoke out against detractors who said the quarterback didn't throw downfield enough, saying, "Don't you think I wanted to throw the ball downfield? By the time I looked up, I was getting hit. I'm certainly hoping we have an opportunity to make some big plays next season." Campbell had a career-best season in 2009, completing 64.5 percent of his passes (327 of 507) for 3,618 yards (7.14 yards per attempt) with 20 touchdowns and 15 interceptions, adding 236 rush yards, a rushing touchdown and three fumbles lost. We expect Campbell to start for the Redskins in 2010 but not without a fight from someone else. He should be drafted as a No. 2 Fantasy option with a late-round pick, and hopefully the father-son combo of Mike and Kyle Shanahan (his new offensive coordinator) can help Campbell's stats improve even more.
News: The Washington Post reports the Redskins are looking into spending the No. 4 overall pick in the NFL Draft on a quarterback that new coach Mike Shanahan can develop. The story says the Redskins are considering former Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford or former Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen. While Shanahan hasn't said anything about his plans for the position, the most likely scenario would be to retain restricted free agent Jason Campbell and groom a young QB like Bradford or Clausen. Campbell said in a recent interview with CBSSports.com that he's excited about playing for Shanahan as well as his son, offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, who spent last season in the same role with the Texans. "You look at the offense he ran in Denver, and then the offense his son ran in Houston and how Matt Schaub took his game to another level, I definitely feel like we have the right leadership to turn our team around," Campbell said. "Coach Shanahan is going to find a way to get our running game going and create opportunities for our passing game. We're excited."
Analysis: Campbell had a career-best season in 2009, completing 64.5 percent of his passes (327 of 507) for 3,618 yards (7.14 yards per attempt) with 20 touchdowns and 15 interceptions, adding 236 rush yards, a rushing touchdown and three fumbles lost. "I feel like I matured a lot and was able to overcome a lot because I was faced with a lot of adversity," Campbell said about 2009. This isn't the first time he's heard about being replaced -- the Redskins attempted to trade for Jay Cutler last offseason -- but with a new regime, Campbell could have to compete for his job. Still, we expect Campbell to start for the Redskins in 2010. He should be drafted as a No. 2 Fantasy option with a late-round pick, and hopefully the father-son combo of Mike and Kyle Shanahan can help Campbell's stats improve.
News:Clinton Portis went about rehashing the past on a Washington D.C. radio station, including his thoughts on quarterback Jason Campbell's leadership skills. Asked on ESPN980 why Campbell was a team captain and he wasn't, Portis replied: "I wonder the same thing. It's no disrespect to Jason, but everybody in that locker room will tell you - you will never see Jason mad, you will never see Jason's tempo change. ... (He's) going to give you everything (he's) got. But as a leader ... it was always, 'Jason couldn't take control of the huddle,' or 'He didn't do this' or 'He didn't do that.' That wasn't Jason's character. ... I think Jason, you can't place so much on somebody who's not ready for that situation. I think Jason has enough trouble in getting the plays in and worrying about this, compared to controlling the huddle." Portis also added that Campbell wouldn't make suggestions on plays or stand up for the players in meetings with coaches.
There was also a three-week span late in the year where he ranked among the best Fantasy quarterbacks out there. That's the potential he brings to Fantasy, though he's hardly delivered on a regular basis. Campbell will test free agency this offseason, so depending on where he ends up and what role he has, he could be a factor as a No. 2 Fantasy QB in 2010 -- in spite of what Portis said, he's proven that he can put up some points.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell's numbers were solid for the Week 17 game in San Diego but he still failed to lead the Redskins to victory over the Chargers' backups. Campbell and the 'Skins were winning for most of the game but coughed it up in the final seconds. Campbell's stats were solid as he went 28 of 42 for 281 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. Still, he couldn't lead the Redskins on scoring drives when it mattered most, again. Campbell threw touchdown passes to Todd Yoder in the 2nd quarter from 2 yards out and Mike Sellers from 3 yards out. He also rushed three times for 8 yards.
Analysis: Campbell may have finished with a solid performance against the Chargers backup defense but that doesnt let him off the hook after a very shaky season. His final numbers are actually better than his leadership of the Redskins and a lot will be changing in Washington next year. One of the biggest changes could be the removal of Campbell from the starters job. That means he will head into the offseason with a lot of speculation of being out of a job. That means that, at least at first, hes not going to be recommended as a Fantasy Draft selection heading into the 2010-11 season. Hes worth a late-round pick, at best, as a possible sleeper.
News: In the Redskins' Week 16 loss vs. the Cowboys, QB Jason Campbell had his second rough week in a row, completing 24 of 39 passes for just 199 yards with an interception. He also had 13 yards rushing, which actually led the team.
Analysis: Campbell will lead the Redskins in their 2009 season finale at San Diego, and he might have a chance to put up some decent stats since the Chargers are expected to rest some of their first-team defenders for some or all of the game. Consider Campbell a top-end No. 2 Fantasy QB so long as it appears that he'll see every snap against the Bolts.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell had a sickly game on Monday night in front of the nation at home against the Giants Week 15. Campbell was awful in the first half and only better yardage-wise in the second. He finished 15 of 28 for 192 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions. The touchdown was to tight end Fred Davis from 11 yards out in the 3rd quarter. Both of his picks also came in the second half. He was hit hard and often in the game and left before halftime with a shoulder injury only to return and start the second half. He also led the team in rushing with 36 yards on two carries.
Analysis: For as good as Campbell looked in Week 14 in the win over Oakland, that is how bad he looked against the Giants at home on the nationally televised stage on Monday. He was hit hard in the game and left before halftime with a shoulder issue only to return and be only slightly better in the second half. Campbell plays against Dallas, who is on fire after beating New Orleans Week 15, on Sunday night in Week 16. Campbell is just a last-resort Fantasy option for that game.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell is making a compelling argument to be a part of next year's plans, even though his contract expires at the end of the season and the front office has been looking for alternatives. He has thrown for 11 touchdowns and six interceptions since getting benched against Kansas City on Oct. 18. He has been routinely battered behind a patchwork offensive line and was slow getting up several times on Sunday, but he didn't miss a play despite hurting his non-throwing shoulder. "He has had some poise," coach Jim Zorn said. "Since that Kansas City game, that was a turning point for him where he had to make up his mind how he was going to play this game. And he's been tough-minded on the line of scrimmage, in and out of the huddle, getting hit and getting back up even when he is injured."
Analysis: Campbell has emerged as a decent option in Fantasy, especially over the last three weeks. He'll have a pretty decent matchup at home against the Giants in Week 15, so if you're desperate for a Fantasy quarterback for that game, give Campbell a look.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell, coming off a three-touchdown, 367-yard performance against the Saints, threw two touchdown passes Week 14 at Oakland, giving him three straight games with multiple touchdown passes. He finished 16 of 28 passing for 222 yards, both of his touchdown passes going to TE Fred Davis. He also ran four times for 20 yards.
Analysis: Campbell's performance has improved in the last few weeks, though he obviously benefited from a good matchup Sunday. He'll have a tougher matchup Week 15 against the Giants and still doesn't have enough big games to his credit for you to use him as more than a No. 2 Fantasy quarterback.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell had his best game of the season Sunday against New Orleans. Campbell finished 30 of 42 passing for 367 yard, three touchdowns and one interception. He also added one rush attempt for minus-1 yards.
Analysis: Campbell went over 300 yards for the first time since Week 3 against the Lions. This was his first three touchdown game of the season, and he now has five touchdown passes in his last two games. The Redskins play at Oakland in Week 14, so consider Campbell a No. 2 Fantasy option with upside. He's not a bad injury replacement with the way he's playing the past two games, so hopefully he can continue to play well against the Raiders.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell apparently blacked out momentarily after being slammed to the ground by Philadelphia's Juqua Parker on a fourth-and-1 incompletion that ended the Redskins' final drive on Sunday. Coach Jim Zorn said Monday that Campbell is OK and should play against the Saints in Week 13.
Analysis: Campbell looked better at times in Week 12 against the Eagles. He also looked ridiculously bad at times with the two first-half interceptions, especially the second that set up Philly taking the halftime lead. Campbell had his first multi-touchdown game since Week 7 and also scored his first rushing touchdown of the year. This was definitely one of his best games but it also showed his downside as well. We still dont like Campbell as a starting Fantasy quarterback but as an injury-replacement he could be worthwhile in Week 13 against the Saints, if he is healthy.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell could not leave a two-minute drill on the final drive in Week 12 at Philadelphia and the Redskins lost the game after leading for most of the day. Campbell left the game writhing in the ground in pain but likely was more upset than injured as his final pass was short of its intended receiver. He finished 22 of 37 for 231 yards and two touchdowns but threw two costly interceptions. He did run for a third touchdown in the game in the 1st quarter from 1 yard out.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell did what he does best with the game on the line against Dallas in Week 11. He folded like a bad hand in poker. Campbell threw an interception on the game's final drive with the Redskins down for the first time all game. He finished with 256 passing yards on 24 of 37 throwing and the pick. Campbell did not throw a touchdown pass in the game and had zero rushing yards.
Analysis: Campbell now has 10 touchdown passes and nine interceptions on the season in 10 games. He has two TDs and two picks in his last three games alone. While the 256 passing yards were his most since Week 7, Campbell is still an awful Fantasy option for Week 12 at Philadelphia. The Eagles should force him into more than a few mistakes.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell led the Redskins to their 3rd victory of the season on Sunday of Week 10 against the Broncos. Campbell was limited to 193 passing yards on 17 of 26 throwing the football. He did not have an interception and found Todd Yoder for a 2-yard TD pass in the 1st quarter. Campbell also rushed twice for 15 yards.
Analysis: Campbell did a great job avoiding the Denver pass rush in the game on Sunday but has now failed to throw for over 200 yards in five of his last six games. He has seven touchdowns and six interceptions over that span and the Redskins offense wasn't that much better on Sunday despite the win. We still cannot recommend Campbell as anything but a bye-week or injury replacement for Week 11 at Dallas.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell (ankle) is active for Week 10 against Denver.
Analysis: Campbell will take on a Broncos pass defense that allowed three touchdowns last week but four in their previous games. It's not a good matchup for him -- keep him benched or on waivers in Week 10.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell was limited slightly in practice Wednesday, avoiding too much movement as a precaution because of a swollen ankle, but coach Jim Zorn said he expects his starting quarterback to be fine for Sunday. "Just trying to be smart about it," Campbell said. "Don't want to aggravate it." Campbell was able to return to a full practice in full on Thursday and Friday and has been listed as probable for Week 10 against the Broncos.
Analysis: Campbell will take on a Broncos pass defense that allowed three touchdowns last week but four in their previous games. It's not a good matchup for him -- keep him benched or on waivers in Week 10.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell was injured twice during the Week 9 game at Atlanta. He left just before halftime but returned to begin the second half before getting sacked for the sixth time in the game and injuring his ankle in the 4th quarter. Campbell returned again with just over three minutes remaining in the game. In all, Campbell finished 15 of 22 for 196 yards with one touchdown and an interception. The touchdown was a back-of-the-end-zone pass to Todd Yoder from 3 yards out in the 4th quarter. Campbell also rushed five times for 40 yards.
Analysis: Campbell will likely be fine to start Week 10 against Denver's top defense. With 1,677 passing yards, nine touchdowns and eight interceptions on the season, Campbell is nothing more than a bye-week replacement option for Fantasy owners this season. He should not be used in Week 10 against Denver regardless of health.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell had another poor game on Monday night at home against the Eagles. His Redskins dropped to 2-5 on the year and his final stats were only decent because of a long late-game drive that resulted in a touchdown pass to Fred Davis. Campbell finished 29 of 43 for 284 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He also lost a fumble. Campbell hit Devin Thomas on a 2-yard TD pass in the 2nd quarter and found Davis once play after missing him badly in the end zone for a 1-yard TD. Campbell added four rushes for 8 yards.
Analysis: Campbell threw for over 200 yards for the first time since throwing for 340 Week 3 against the Lions. The Redskins lost that game too. Campbell has thrown eight touchdown passes on the season in seven games and that comes with seven interceptions. He's been awful, the Redskins have been awful and we simply cannot recommend his Fantasy use going forward unless things change. Washington has a bye Week 8 anyway.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell will face a division opponent in Week 7 against Philadelphia. In two games against the Eagles last season, Campbell did not throw a touchdown pass.
Analysis: The Eagles rank fifth in the NFL against the pass, giving up just 180.5 passing yards through five games. They have 11 interceptions, tied for most in the NFL. We expect low production out of Campbell this season, making him someone to sit in most formats.
News: NFL Network reports that Jason Campbell will remain the Redskins' starting quarterback for their Week 7 game vs. the Eagles. Campbell was pulled from the team's Week 6 loss to the Chiefs after he went 9 of 16 for 89 yards and an interception (on a Hail Mary) in the first half. Todd Collins took his place but wasn't as effective.
Analysis: Campbell isn't worth owning outside of deeper leagues that start multiple quarterbacks. His matchup against the Eagles in Week 7 is rough, too: He didn't throw a touchdown against them in two games last season and hasn't topped 215 yards in a game against them in his last five. Don't trust Campbell so long as you can help it, and Collins isn't worth adding to standard Fantasy rosters at this time, either.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell was yanked from the Redskins' game against the Chiefs in Washington in Week 6. Campbell went 9 of 16 for 89 yards and an interception in the first half and coach Jim Zorn did not let him start the second. He, instead, went with backup Todd Collins, who immediately led Washington on a field-goal scoring drive. Collins hit Santana Moss with a 42-yard pass in his first drive. Collins didn't finish up well, however, as he went 6 of 14 for 75 yards and no scores. Zorn said after the game that he still believes in Campbell but doesn't yet know who will start going forward. "I have to wait and see," Zorn said. "I still believe in Jason (Campbell). He missed some passes and didn't look comfortable. We will have to see."
Analysis: Campbell has already lost to the Lions and Panthers this season and was doing his best to lose to the Chiefs before Washington had seen enough. We don't know if he'll return for Week 7 vs. Philadelphia but we wouldn't use him anyway. He's just a low-end Fantasy QB barely worth owning at this point. Until Collins really does something to prove otherwise, however, he's also not a recommended Fantasy option.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell has already lost to the Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers this season. He is coming off a Week 5 loss at Carolina in which he went 17 of 23 for 145 yards and a touchdown. In his last two games, he has three TDs and three interceptions. Campbell and the Redskins play Kansas City Week 6. Campbell has never faced the Chiefs.
Analysis: Campbell had one solid game this season in Week 3 at Detroit. The Redskins lost that game but he threw for 340 yards with two touchdowns and an INT. He's managed just 315 yards in two games since. The Chiefs, however, own one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL. They allow 270 yards through the air per game and have given up 10 touchdowns with just two picks this season. Campbell has had favorable matchups before and not done well but we think that Week 6 is one week where he makes a lot of sense as a bye-week replacement. He's definitely worth starting if you have to.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell put forth another mediocre performance Week 5 in a loss to the Panthers. For one, he led the Redskins to a loss to the previously winless Panthers. He went 17 of 23 in the game for 145 yards and a touchdown. He hit Clinton Portis with a 10-yard TD pass following a fumble deep in Panthers' territory early in the 1st quarter. He could not score after that. He also rushed twice for 4 yards.
Analysis: Campbell has thrown for under 200 yards in two straight games now since throwing for 340 against Detroit in Week 3. In the two sub-200-yard games, he's thrown three touchdown passes and three interceptions. Campbell is a bye-week replacement, at best, Week 6 against Kansas City. He has proven time and time again that even against poor competition, he's still not a great Fantasy play.
News: The Redskins play at Carolina in Week 5, which means it might be a quiet day for Washington QB Jason Campbell, as the Panthers rank dead last against the run this season. Campbell did throw two touchdowns against Carolina in their last meeting.
Analysis: No matter who he plays, Campbell is pretty much just a super-risky option every week in Fantasy play with his inconsistent output. Only start him in majorly deep leagues as a bye-week replacement option if you must.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell led scoring drives of 69 yards in 10 plays and 59 yards in one play in the 3rd quarter against Tampa Bay in Week 4 to secure a victory. Campbell finished both drives with a TD pass. He hit Chris Cooley with a 17-yard TD pass and then found Santana Moss for a 59-yard TD reception down the sideline. That is where Campbell's positive attributes in the game end. He finished 12 of 22 for just 170 yards against a Tampa pass defense that has not been very good this season. The two touchdowns came late as he had already thrown two interceptions and fumbled twice, losing one, before the first TD pass. Campbell finished with 2 touchdown passes and 3 interceptions and added a lost fumble. He also rushed seven times for 20 yards.
Analysis: Campbell never before threw 3 interceptions in a game. He did that against a Tampa that came into the game allowing 7 TDs with only one pick on the year. Campbell also fumbled twice on the first series of plays and lost one. On the season, Campbell has thrown for 963 yards with 5 touchdowns but has now been picked off 5 times as well and has a QB rating of 85.5. He looked decent in Week 3 at Detroit but was back to being a mediocre Fantasy option against a terrible team. Washington plays at Carolina, another winless team, in Week 4. Campbell should once again be a last-resort No. 2 Fantasy option. Start him if you absolutely have to with your normal starter on bye. Just realize, you'll probably be frustrated with his production.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell had his best game of the season in Week 3. He went 27 of 41 for 340 yards and 2 touchdowns with 1 interception. Of course, that came in a loss at Detroit, a team that hadn't won since 2007. Campbell faces another porous defense in Week 4 as he heads home to host Tampa Bay. The last time Campbell faced the Bucs was back in 2007 in Florida. He threw for 301 yards in that game with 1 TD and 2 picks.
Analysis: Campbell will have his third easy matchup in a row but he struggled against the Rams before having a nice game -- for Fantasy purposes -- against the Lions. Once again we'll call him a sleeper against the bad defense but we don't think he's going to do anything special as he just doesn't have it in him. Use him as a No. 2 option, at best.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell threw more in Week 3's game against the Lions. His stats looked pretty good at 27 of 41 for 340 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. Still, he lost to the Lions. The Lions. That doesn't bode well for his leadership value. Campbell also rushed once for 21 yards.
Analysis: Week 3 was clearly Campbell's best game but now the entire Washington team is on the hot seat after a loss to the Lions, who didn't win a game last year. Coach Jim Zorn could go at any minute and Campbell could follow as he really doesn't seem to get what being a starting QB in the NFL is all about. He drops too many snaps and overthrows too many receivers when a big play is needed. Against a terrible defense like Detroit, Campbell was decent. They play a terrible defense again in Week 4 at home against Tampa Bay. We still don't think he's worth using as anything but a No. 2 Fantasy QB.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell (foot) is healthy and starting Week 3 at Detroit.
Analysis: It would seem as though Campbell has a favorable matchup against the hapless Lions, who are allowing 255.5 passing yards per game. But we only like Campbell as a sleeper option for deeper Fantasy formats since he doesn't have a great track record.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell was held out on certain plays at practice Friday, but is listed as probable for Week 3 at Detroit. "He is going to go (against Detroit). He told me he feels great," Redskins coach Jim Zorn said.
Analysis: It would seem as though Campbell has a favorable matchup against the hapless Lions, who are allowing 255.5 passing yards per game. But we only like Campbell as a sleeper option for deeper Fantasy formats since he doesn't have a great track record.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell was still listed as limited in practice Thursday with an injured ankle, which was his status Wednesday as well. He was injured in Week 2 against St. Louis, but he did not leave the game. He is listed as questionable for Week 3 at Detroit.
Analysis: Campell has a good matchup against the Lions and should be considered a sleeper for Week 3. He is expected to play, but we'll know more on his status Friday. If you need to add a QB off the waiver wire this week, Campbell is a good option based on the matchup.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell said he would practice at "half speed" Wednesday. Campbell suffered a sprained ankle in the second quarter Sunday against the Rams. The Redskins are scheduled to face the Lions in Week 3 at Detroit.
Analysis: Campbell should be able to play in Week 3 and he'll be faced with a very favorable matchup against a weak Lions pass defense. The Lions have allowed 255.5 yards per game through the air in the first two weeks of the season, giving up eight touchdown passes against just one interception. They don't put a lot of pressure on the quarterback and Campbell is a bit of a sleeper for deeper formats and leagues that require two quarterbacks as a result. He has thrown for over 200 yards in each of his two games this season, but has struggled to get the ball into the end zone.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell suffered a sprained ankle in the second quarter Sunday against the Rams. "He gutted it out. I avoided calling plays that required him to roll out after the injury," Redskins coach Jim Zorn said. Campbell completed 23 of 35 passes for 242 yards against the Rams. He also rushed seven times for 28 yards. The Redskins scored just nine points against the Rams, but part of the problem for Washington failing to find the end zone could have been Campbell's injury.
Analysis: Hopefully he will be OK for Week 3 because the Redskins have another good matchup at Detroit. Keep an eye on Campbell's health, but he could be considered a sleeper for Week 3.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell completed 23 passes out of 35 attempts for 242 yards Week 2 in a 9-7 win over the Rams. Campbell directed three long scoring drives that ended with field goals instead of touchdowns as he could not punch the ball in the end zone. Part of the problem was Redskins' conservative play calling but Campbell also made poor decisions at times. He rushed seven times for 28 yards. Campbell fumbled once but the ball was recovered by Clinton Portis.
Analysis: Campbell threw for 211 yards in Week 1's loss to the Giants with a touchdown pass and an interception. In two games thus far, Campbell continues to prove he will struggle as the Redskins' signal caller. His matchup in Week 2 could not have been any more in his favor and he still couldn't help Washington score a touchdown. He makes poor decisions and is far too hesitant. The 'Skins play at Detroit in Week 3 but we can only call Campbell a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell will play a non-division opponent in Week 2 in the team's home opener against the Rams. St. Louis allowed 279 yards in Week 1 at Seattle, including three touchdowns. They did intercept two passes, however.
Analysis: Campbell is coming off a very poor showing against the Giants in Week 1, but his numbers turned out to be decent thanks to a late touchdown drive against what was basically prevent defense in the fourth quarter against the Giants. We view Campbell as a No. 2 QB on most weeks, but most No. 2 QBs are options to be used when facing favorable matchups and that is certainly the case for Campbell this week. Consider going with Campbell in larger leagues as a sleeper for a good week if you have a low-end No. 1 starter with a poor matchup.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell struggled most of the day in the season opener at the Giants, throwing an interception and losing a fumble that turned into a defensive touchdown. He was able to pad his stats at the end, though, finishing the day 19 of 26 for 211 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown came on a 17-yard pass to Chris Cooley in the second quarter. He also ran the ball once for 16 yards.
Analysis: Campbell salvaged his stats by putting together a drive against the prevent defense in the fourth quarter. Really, he was worse than his numbers showed, which is pretty much par for the course for him in his NFL career. He hasn't progressed the way the Redskins had hoped, making him no more than a backup in Fantasy. Keep him reserved even though he has a great matchup against the Rams in Week 2.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell has four touchdown passes against the Giants in his last four games against them compared to two interceptions. Campbell faces the G-men in New York in Week 1 and the last time he was at Giants Stadium he went 15 of 27 for 133 yards and a touchdown with no picks.
Analysis: Campbell passed for career-high 3,245 yards in 2008, his first 3,000-yard season. Still, Washington's starter has been anything but a solid Fantasy option because of his lack of touchdown passes. His ability to limit the turnovers is a nice quality but until he proves he can rack up big yardage and points, he's just a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option. He's started four games against the Giants in his career and has thrown for just 775 yards over that span.
News:Jason Campbell put on a regular season show in the preseason, helping ease the doubts from a pair of disappointing August performances in a 27-24 loss to the Patriots. He played the first half and the first drive of the second half, finishing a hot-and-cold 13 for 22 for 209 yards. Campbell went 4 for 4 on the opening drive, then had three straight three-and-outs before another scoring drive that featured a 73-yard completion to a wide-open Chris Cooley, who kept his balance along the sideline to take the ball inside the 10. Campbell finished the drive with a 4-yard run on a broken play that included a nice move that faked out linebacker Paris Lenon. "I was very pleased," coach Jim Zorn said at halftime. "He was very much into the game. He was competing hard and doing the things that you want. We missed on a couple of long ones, but he came back and was running the show."
Analysis: Campbell was feeling the heat after a 4 for 13 start to the preseason, including 1 for 7 last week with no touchdowns in either game from the first-team offense. This performance won't silence too many of Campbell's critics, but it can give Fantasy owners a bit more confidence in him on Draft Day. Think of Campbell as a No. 2 Fantasy QB who can be taken in the later rounds and be used as a suitable backup.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell was not sharp during his second preseason contest on Saturday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers' defense held him to 1 of 7 passing for 10 yards. Coach Jim Zorn had this to say of his performance: "I liked the effort, Id like more accuracy. The only throw that I thought was poor was the high throw to Santana Moss for the first down. He should have just pulled that ball down and we should have gotten an easy completion. But hell see what the problem is. He made good decisions on the screens to throw them away because one time the defensive lineman grabbed our back, another time they just smelled it out and we couldnt get it. That was really about it. I try to look and see, 1 of 7 and all that kind of stuff, but again I thought Jason did a nice job getting us into the right play."
Analysis: When a quarterback goes 1 for 7 and the coach says he liked his decision-making ability, what is he referring to? Campbell did avoid throwing the ball to the other team. Campbell has the potential to put up big numbers this season because he has a lot of solid pieces around him. He needs to work on his decision making, no matter what the coach says. Think of him as a as a No. 2 Fantasy QB, usable as a backup in most leagues and worth taking with a late-round pick.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell went 3 for 6 for 38 yards, and both his drives ended with punts on Thursday in the team's first preseason game against the Ravens. Backup Todd Collins was 8 for 11 for 70 yards but failed to produce any points, and Colt Brennan threw the game's lone interception. "We didn't attack them just yet because we're just getting into a rhythm, but I felt good," Campbell said. "I really felt comfortable. Having some experience helps a lot."
Analysis: Redskins coach Jim Zorn said of Campbell: "He did a nice job keeping his focus down the field. I wish that we could have gotten the first-team offense into the end zone." Campbell has the potential to put up big numbers this season but has a suspect offensive line and hit-or-miss receiving corps. Think of him as a as a No. 2 Fantasy QB, usable as a backup in most leagues and worth taking with a late-round pick.
News: The Washington Post reports Redskins QB Jason Campbell wants more protection from his offensive line. Campbell was sacked 38 times in 2008 - the league's fourth-highest total. "I think everybody understands we've been in a tough situation," Campbell said. "All those guys came into camp in the best shape possible because of how hard they worked, they worked together out there in Arizona to start building that unity, which you need to have a good line, and I think everybody was just positive about what they could do starting out camp. But the thing about this game is that you know you can never control injuries. You know you can't control who's going to stay healthy, and you know a lot of stuff can happen. It's a long season. People look at our offense and our line and think we're just not doing anything against our defense, but they don't understand we haven't had a chance to get the reps we need together right now."
Analysis: His offensive line is a little suspect, and his receiving corps is hit-or-miss, but the potential is there for Campbell to post big numbers in 2009. That said, he's better off being taken as a No. 2 Fantasy QB, usable as a backup in most leagues and worth taking with a late-round pick.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell said Wednesday he is excited for the 2009 season and is looking forward to putting last year behind him. "We all have to be focused," Campbell said. "Being a leader of a football team, practice goes the way you come out here and participate. You play upbeat. I'm coming out here, we're having fun and guys are paying attention to detail. Of course we make mistakes out here at the same time, but there are things you do to correct it. It's all about how you bounce back and continue to move forward. ... Everything that happens in the past is behind me. I've moved forward and I'm enjoying football right now, and just having fun."
Analysis: This will be Campbell's second season in coach Jim Zorn's system, which is something Campbell hasn't had much in his college and NFL career since he's changed coordinators often. In only his second full season as a starter last season, Campbell established personal bests with an 84.3 passer rating, 3,245 yards and 13 touchdown passes while throwing only six interceptions. Those aren't great Fantasy stats, so Campbell will need to improve. We view Campbell as a No. 2 option, and he could improve his value if he steps up and plays like the leader he claims to be. Plan on drafting Campbell with a late-round pick in all leagues.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell is enjoying the benefits of being in the same offense for consecutive years. He was more relaxed under center on the first day of training camp and made some great plays while displaying improved, faster drop-back speed. He displayed a sharp arm, hitting second-year receiver Devin Thomas on a 50-yard post pattern in 7-on-7 drills, connecting with three Redskins receivers, including Thomas and Santana Moss, on three consecutive passes for big yardage and even made a good read on a wide-open Moss after he beat his coverage (the pass just missed). "Last year I wasn't comfortable with all the plays during training camp. It was hard for me to lead when I couldn't accurately perform all the plays in practice," Campbell said. "Now I can focus on being a leader instead of trying to get the plays right."
Analysis: It's a little disturbing to read that Campbell "couldn't accurately perform all the plays in practice," but that's old news from last year. It seems like he's better now and could be in "second-nature mode" when it comes to Jim Zorn's offense. His offensive line is a little suspect, and his receiving corps is hit-or-miss, but the potential is there for Campbell to post big numbers in 2009. That said, he's better off being taken as a No. 2 Fantasy QB, usable as a backup in most leagues and worth taking with a late-round pick. For the latest from Redskins camp, check out CBSSports.com's RapidReports.
News: The Washington Post reports Redskins QB Jason Campbell had a closed-door meeting with owner Daniel Snyder, executive vice president of football operations Vinny Cerato and coach Jim Zorn in April to assure Campbell he's the starter even though the team had overtures for Jay Cutler. Campbell said he didn't need that for motivation, but he's ready for 2009. "No one has to tell me I need to push myself, I need to be the leader of the team and I have to set an example," Campbell said. "I know that, and that's why I work as hard as I do, because I want to be the type of quarterback who takes us to the next level. But you always have things you can work on, things you can do to improve, and one thing is I'm going to be a lot more vocal this year. I really think it's time for me to take that role, and I'm going to let all my teammates know that and see that."
Analysis: This will be Campbell's second season in Zorn's system, which is something Campbell hasn't had much in his college and NFL career since he's changed coordinators often.
News: Redskins coach Jim Zorn has been impressed with QB Jason Campbell's work this offseason. "He's progressing very well," Zorn said Monday. "I think he's much further ahead then he was last year. Last year he was trying to understand terminology, understand how things work and being in it all year and with all the personal improvements he's made, in this offseason, he's been strong, confident and doing a wonderful job throwing the football."
Analysis: Campbell had an interesting offseason because it appeared the team tried to replace him when Jay Cutler was on the market. But Campbell again enters the season as the starting QB, and he should improve with his second year in Zorn's system. Campbell will continue to be a No. 2 Fantasy QB, and he's worth drafting with a late-round pick in all leagues.
News: The Washington Post reports Redskins offensive coordinator Sherman Smith is impressed with the play of QB Jason Campbell this offseason. "His game is taking off," Smith said. "And what he went through this offseason, my respect for him, I can't even measure it."
Analysis: Campbell could be good this season if he gets quality production from young WRs Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly along with the usual production from Santana Moss, Chris Cooley and Antwaan Randle-El. Campbell should be considered a No. 2 Fantasy QB coming into the season and is worth a late-round pick in all leagues.
News: The Washington Post reports Redskins QB Jason Campbell is optimistic that the offense will be better this season. The Redskins averaged only 16.6 points - ranking 28th in the league - during the first season of coach Jim Zorn's version of a West Coast scheme. The attack, which utilized three- and four-receiver sets, was supposed to help Washington have an effective passing game, but Campbell's average of 189.1 yards was 23rd in the NFL. But Campbell has high expectations this season, in large part, because of WRs Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly, who disappointed in their rookie seasons. "With Devin and Malcolm, we've seen the talent these guys have," Campbell said. "Both of these guys can make plays, they can do things to really help us reach the level we need to as an offense, they've just got to be able to stay on the field, get comfortable and do what they do."
Analysis: Campbell will need Thomas and Kelly to step up along with Santana Moss, Chris Cooley and Antwaan Randle-El. Campbell should be considered a No. 2 Fantasy QB coming into the season and is worth a late-round pick in all leagues.
News:Jason Campbell is still the Redskins' starting quarterback, having survived the second of two attempts by the team's brain trust to acquire someone else to take his place. He was having dinner Thursday night when he first learned that the front office was seriously interested in working a deal to select USC quarterback Mark Sanchez in the first round of the NFL draft. Just three weeks earlier, the Redskins tried to trade for Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler. When the deal fell through, there was a clear-the-air meeting between Campbell, owner Dan Snyder, front office chief Vinny Cerrato and coach Jim Zorn. "It's an awkward situation," Campbell answered, "just because after the Cutler deal, we did sit down and talk - and then the Sanchez talk came up. ... One thing I was kind of upset about is it makes you feel like you're a bad quarterback, someone that's not wanted or something. But at the same time it makes you a stronger person. It makes you a stronger quarterback, and through all of this it's going to help my process."
Analysis: Campbell has a lot to play for this year after posting his career-best totals in 2008. He completed 315-of-506 passes (62.3 pct.) for 3,245 yards (6.41 yards per attempt) with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also rushed for 258 yards and a touchdown and fumbled the ball away only once. Campbell will be in a contract year in 2009, so he'll be plenty motivated to have a big year. The only negative with Campbell is that he's never been a big stat master -- he's had two career 300-yard games, he had eight sub-200-yard outings last year and two games with more than one passing touchdown in 2008 -- so if you're banking on him to be anything more than a No. 2 Fantasy option, you're reaching. Assuming he stays with Washington, consider him with a late-round pick as he'll be a nice backup passer for your squad.
News: NFL.com reports that Redskins QB Jason Campbell will request a trade out of Washington if the club drafts a quarterback in the 2009 NFL Draft. There's been much speculation that Washington is interested in USC QB Mark Sanchez and want to move up from 13th overall to get him. Campbell has been with the Redskins for four years already and has been forced to learn four different offenses in that span. The Redskins were also players in the Jay Cutler derby earlier this offseason and had to clear the air with Campbell after they failed to land him. The Washington Times reports that the Jets have shown interest in Campbell if in fact the Redskins want to trade him.

News: The Redskins issued a statement Friday to say they are behind QB Jason Campbell despite interest in trying to trade for Jay Cutler. The statement, released by executive vice president of football operations Vinny Cerato, said: "We met with Jason today and had a candid discussion. We told Jason that when Jay Cutler became available we, like many other NFL teams, spoke with the Broncos. We are all on the same page and we are moving forward."
Analysis: This means Campbell will remain the starter for the Redskins this season. He should be considered a No. 2 Fantasy QB, and hopefully now that he has the faith of the team behind him, he will have the confidence to improve in 2009. Campbell is worth taking with a late-round pick this year.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell saved one of his better performances for the last game of the Redskins' season in Week 17 against the 49ers. Campbell threw for 156 yards on 18-of-30 passing with a TD pass to Antwaan Randle El in the 2nd quarter. Campbell's best drive of the game came on Washington's final drive as he used his arm and legs to score for Washington. Campbell got into the end zone on a 2-yard TD run to tie the game in the 4th. He finished with four carries for 39 yards on the ground.
Analysis: Campbell had just two touchdowns in his previous four weeks combined so the two he had in Week 17 was a major improvement. He still didn't have very big offensive numbers and he's been at the center of failing offense the entire second half of the season. He finished the year with 3,245 yards and 13 touchdowns through the air with 12 interceptions. Campbell finished the year as a No. 2 Fantasy QB and we can't give him a higher rating than that heading into 2009. He does have some upside but the Redskins aren't even 100 percent certain that they want him as the starter of the future.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell had a very even game on Sunday of Week 16 against the Eagles. He was not that good but not that bad, either. Campbell was 18-of-33 for 144 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in the Redskins 10-3 win. Campbell rushed twice for 28 yards.
Analysis: Campbell threw for the fewest amount of yardage since Week 1 at New York in Week 16's game. It was a game that Fantasy owners would cringe about and it is basically how you should look at Campbell as a Fantasy player. He's not going to put up big numbers. The Redskins are at San Francisco to end their season in Week 17 and we cannot recommend Campbell as anything but a No. 2 Fantasy QB at best.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell has fallen apart the past five games with four touchdowns and four interceptions, and he hasn't topped 232 yards in that span. His offensive line is a mess, and the Eagles, this week's opponent, will take advantage of the injuries with even more blitzing than usual.
Analysis: Campbell was held to 176 yards passing with no touchdowns or interceptions against the Eagles earlier this year, and Philadelphia's defense has stepped up the past three weeks against Arizona, the Giants and Cleveland. Washington is crawling to the finish line this season and should struggle again this week. Keep Campbell as a No. 2 Fantasy QB.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell looked like the best player on the field for the Redskins in Week 15's loss to Cincinnati. That wasn't saying much. Campbell threw for 167 yards on 17-of-28 passing with one touchdown and no picks. He hit Santana Moss with a TD strike from 10 yards out in the 2nd quarter for Washington's only touchdown. Campbell also rushed twice for 21 yards.
Analysis: Campbell has been mediocre for some time now with four touchdowns and four picks over his last five contests. Against a tough Philadelphia defense in Week 16, Campbell is only a No. 2 Fantasy option. He didn't fare well against the Eagles in Week 5 in Philly. Campbell threw for 176 yards in that game with no touchdowns and no interceptions but the Redskins won.
News: Five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Chris Samuels is out for the season with a torn right triceps, the latest blow for the Redskins. Samuels was injured in the team's Week 14 loss at Baltimore. Right tackle Jon Jansen was also hurt in the game was having an MRI on Monday on his left knee. The dual injuries forced coach Jim Zorn to insert Justin Geisinger -- a backup center who hasn't played tackle since college -- into the game at tackle in the fourth quarter against the stifling Ravens pass rush. Geisinger struggled and got hurt as well. He was having an MRI on Monday to address what Zorn called "a potential knee problem." Zorn said second-year player Stephon Heyer will start the rest of the season at left tackle in place of Samuels, with journeyman Jason Fabini getting first shot at right tackle if Jansen is unable to play. These are the men who will be blocking for Campbell for the foreseeable future.
Analysis: Campbell completed 21-of-37 passes for 218 yards with a passing score to Antwaan Randle El and two interceptions on Sunday, consistently struggling throughout the game without a running presence for him to work with. The consensus on Campbell is that despite a hot start to the season, the quarterback is no better than a low-end No. 2 option. He hasn't had a 300-yard game since October and a two-TD effort since September. While he'll play at the Bengals in an easy Week 15 matchup in his next contest, he's still not expected to serve as anything better than a No. 2 option, meaning that he's not startable in his next game. His awful offensive line won't help him much, although the Bengals' D-line isn't talented enough to take advantage.
News: In the Redskins' 24-10 loss at the Ravens in Week 14, QB Jason Campbell completed 21-of-37 passes for 218 yards with a passing score to Antwaan Randle El and two interceptions. Campbell consistently struggled throughout the game and even finished with 11 rush yards. Campbell had no good run game to balance the offense and couldn't crack the Ravens through the air.
Analysis: The consensus on Campbell is that despite a hot start to the season, the quarterback is no better than a low-end No. 2 option. He hasn't had a 300-yard game since October and a two-TD effort since September. While he'll play at the Bengals in an easy Week 15 matchup in his next contest, he's still not expected to serve as anything better than a No. 2 option, meaning that he's not startable in his next game.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell did not play well in Week 13's 23-7 loss to the Giants. Campbell threw for 232 yards on 23-of-38 passing with no touchdowns and one interception late in the game as the Redskins were attempting a comeback. Campbell did rush five times for 38 yards to lead Washington in that category. He didn't look comfortable against the Giants pass rush and was sacked four times.
Analysis: Campbell now has four interceptions in his last four games after not throwing one prior to that all season long. His numbers are mediocre and he hasn't thrown for more than one touchdown in any game over the past seven weeks. That trend should definitely continue in Week 14 at Baltimore's great defense. We don't recommend starting Campbell against the Ravens, who are great against the rush and the pass.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell hasn't played well at home this year with four touchdowns and three interceptions in five games. In his past two home games against Pittsburgh and Dallas, Campbell has one touchdown and two interceptions with 368 yards. He does have four touchdowns and one interception in three games against the Giants, this week's opponent, but New York will come after him this week.
Analysis: The Giants gave up over 300 yards at Arizona last week, but they still are among the league leaders with 15 interceptions and 32 sacks. Expect this to be a low-scoring game with little from Campbell. Consider Campbell a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell helped lead Washington to the decisive score on Sunday against the Seahawks after he found Santana Moss alone in the flat on third-and-5 from the Redskins 49 early in the 4th quarter. Moss ran through Lofa Tatupu's tackle attempt for a 24-yard gain to the Seahawks 27. That set up the second field goal of the game by Shaun Suisham, from 22 yards, and Washington led 20-17 with 9:19 left. Campbell was 20-of-33 for 206 yards and a touchdown. Campbell threw an 8-yard touchdown pass while backpedalling to Antwaan Randle El, who beat Deon Grant across the middle and then across the goal line, in the 3rd quarter. He added six rushing attempts for 32 yards.
Analysis: Campbell has four touchdown passes in his last five games for the Redskins with three interceptions. That isn't terrible production but it doesn't get it done in Fantasy. He just doesn't put up big enough numbers to use as anything but a high-end No. 2 QB against the Giants in Week 13.
News: In the Redskins' 14-10 loss vs. the Cowboys in Week 11, QB Jason Campbell completed 22-of-34 passes for 162 yards with a touchdown, an interception and a 22-yard rush. Campbell was sacked three times by the swarming Dallas front seven. He also threw his third interception in his last two games.
Analysis: Campbell saw the Cowboys secondary play stronger thanks to the return of CB Terence Newman, who picked his interception, and never had the chance to work the ball down field more. Campbell will take his show on the road at Seattle in Week 12. It's a fair matchup for Campbell as the Cardinals threw for nearly 400 yards against them in Week 11, but he's no lock to deliver big stats. Consider other options before going with Campbell as a starter in Week 12.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell threw his first two interceptions of the season during a 23-6 loss to the visiting Steelers in Week 9. Campbell went 271 passes dating to last season -- 249 this season -- without being picked off until Steelers cornerback Deshea Townsend grabbed a tipped ball late in the third quarter Monday. Campbell finished 24-of-43 passing for 206 yards. He also had a five-yard run.
Analysis: Campbell went without a touchdown and now has only two in his last five games. He didn't look nearly as efficient against the Steelers as he has at other times this season, and without that efficiency, he has little Fantasy value. The Redskins have a bye in Week 10, but consider Campbell just a No. 2 Fantasy option Week 11 against the Cowboys.
News:Ben Roethlisberger has nothing but admiration for the big zero that still sits on Jason Campbell's row of stats halfway through the season. "It's impressive in this league," Roethlisberger said, "not to throw an interception." It's impressive, surprising and even a bit flukey, but the fourth-year Washington Redskins quarterback who this year had to learn a new offense has had all 230 of his passes land either in a teammate's hands or on the ground.
Analysis: The streak faces its biggest hurdle to date Monday night when the Redskins host the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have the league's top-rated overall defense as well as the top-rated pass defense. Campbell should be considered a very low-end No. 1 or high-end No. 2 Fantasy quarterback in Week 9.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell, who still hasn't thrown an interception in eight games this season, led the Redskins to a 25-17 victory over the Lions in Week 8. Campbell was 23-of-28 for 328 yards and a touchdown pass to Santana Moss. Moss caught Campbell's pass in the 3rd quarter and did the rest for a 50-yard score. Campbell also ran three times for minus-2 yards. Campbell lost two fumbles but the Redskins recovered one of them. The other fumble led to a Lions touchdown.
Analysis: His numbers were spectacular and the fact that he's yet to throw an interception speaks volumes for how far he's come. That said, the Redskins still play with a very conservative offense and Campbell has a penchant for fumbling at the wrong time. Washington plays Pittsburgh in Week 9 and that is going to be a tough defensive effort. Campbell should be considered a very low-end No. 1 or high-end No. 2 Fantasy quarterback in Week 9.
News: Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell, who tweaked his groin in Week 7's win over Cleveland, took part in the full practice Wednesday as the team prepares for Week 8 at Detroit. "He's 100 percent," head coach Jim Zorn said.
Analysis: Campbell finished 14-for-23 for 164 yards and one touchdown against Cleveland. He remains the only starting quarterback without an interception this season. Campbell has been very solid for the Redskins and Fantasy owners this season but he's been anything but spectacular. He averages around 200 yards passing per game and has seven touchdowns in seven weeks. He doesn't make too many mistakes, but he also doesn't put up too big of numbers. Consider him a low-end No. 1 Fantasy QB in Week 8 at lowly Detroit. The Lions are one of the worst teams in the NFL against the pass.
News:Jason Campbell's stumble left him with a sore groin Monday, but the Redskins quarterback isn't expected to miss any practice time. Campbell was hurt Sunday when he stepped awkwardly while throwing a pass in the first quarter of a 14-11 victory over the Browns. He didn't miss a play, but the injury appeared to affect his performance. "I think it had a little impact on his game," Zorn said. "He was noticeably inaccurate on several throws that I felt like he should hit, that he felt like he should hit." Zorn added that he believes Campbell will be ready to practice this week.
Analysis: Campbell finished 14-for-23 for 164 yards and one touchdown.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell went a modest 14-for-23 for 164 yards in Week 7's win over the Browns, but he still hasn't thrown an interception all season. Campbell hit Santana Moss with an 18-yard TD pass in the 4th quarter that helped Washington win 14-11.
Analysis: Campbell has been very solid for the Redskins and Fantasy owners this season but he's been anything but spectacular. He averages around 200 yards passing per game and has seven touchdowns in seven weeks with zero interceptions. He doesn't make too many mistakes, but he also doesn't put up too big of numbers. Consider him a low-end No. 1 Fantasy QB in Week 8 at lowly Detroit.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell didn't commit any turnovers in a Week 6 loss to the Rams, but he didn't do much else. Campbell threw for 208 yards on 18-of-26 passing and did not throw a touchdown pass. Campbell also rushed twice for 19 yards.
Analysis: Campbell was considered a great start for Week 6 against the Rams. He didn't play badly, he just didn't do much to help Fantasy owners who started him. That said, the same reasoning used to consider him a good start in Week 6 makes him an excellent starting option in Fantasy in Week 7 against the Browns. The Redskins should bounce back from the loss and Campbell should put up good numbers again. Consider him a low-end No. 1 Fantasy QB in Week 7.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell has a great matchup for Week 6 against St. Louis, which is why he is the CBSSports.com Start of the Week. For the season, Campbell has passed for 1,054 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions in five games. He has one game with over 300-yards and two games with multiple touchdowns, but he has no turnovers on the season. This week, Campbell should have a breakout game. The Rams are No. 28 in pass defense at 245.8 yards per game with eight touchdowns allowed and only one interception. Donovan McNabb (361 yards and three touchdowns) and Eli Manning (260 yards and two touchdowns) ripped through the Rams secondary, while Matt Hasselbeck (172 passing yards and one touchdown) and Trent Edwards (197 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception) were serviceable.
Analysis: Campbell should post similar stats to Manning this week. It will be hard for St. Louis to stop this Washington offense, and Campbell is the leader of the pack. He has talented weapons in the passing game with Santana Moss and Chris Cooley, and even Antwaan Randle El and the young receivers in Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly are making plays. Clinton Portis has been dominant running the ball. Campbell is only being started in 55 percent of leagues on CBSSports.com, but that number should rise as his stats improve. And this is a week where Campbell should shine. Consider him a low-end No. 1 Fantasy option.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell started the game against the Eagles on Sunday by going 0-for-5 and then taking a knee on a 3rd and three play that he thought should have been offsides. It was not. He made up for it, though, by leading the Redskins in the second half to the victory. His numbers weren't great, however. Campbell threw for 176 yards on 16-of-29 passing with no picks or touchdowns. He rushed six times for 14 yards.
Analysis: Campbell looked like a leader in the second half but his numbers won't make those who started him in Fantasy happy. The only touchdown pass thrown by the Redskins was thrown by Antwaan Randle El. Still, Campbell proved again he can lead the 'Skins to victories and is a decent start in Fantasy Week 6 when the Rams come to Washington. St. Louis does not have a good defense so starting Campbell is a good idea.
News:Jason Campbell and the Redskins head to Philadelphia to face the Eagles in Week 5. He's got a good history against them, throwing four touchdowns and just one interception against them in two games last year. Redskins coach Jim Zorn said on Thursday that Campbell is no longer "being so wild with the ball." "When I came here, every time he dropped back, he was shaking the ball," Zorn said. "I said, 'What are you doing? You're not mixing a shake here. You're not mixing a malt. What are you doing?' There's an efficiency in playing at the pro level. If he has to shake the ball before he lets it go, it may transfer into the ball traveling that far too late," said Zorn, spreading his hands wide as he spoke. A late throw can turn into an interception. A shaking ball can turn into a fumble. Campbell led the league last year with eight lost fumbles. This year, he's on pace for zero.
Analysis: Campbell has been solid since Week 2 and is worth a long look as a starting quarterback this week against an Eagles pass defense that yielded three passing scores a week ago. If your other options at QB aren't blowing you away, consider Campbell. For more information on players who are facing familiar foes this week, check out our weekly History Lesson column.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell played quite well in a Week 4 win over the Dallas Cowboys in Dallas. Campbell, calm and collected, threw for 231 yards and two touchdowns on 20-of-31 passing. He did not throw an interception. He connected on TD passes of 3 yards (to James Thrash) and 2 yards (to Antwaan Randle El), both coming in the second quarter.
Analysis: Campbell was even if not spectacular, and that is exactly what he's been all season for the Redskins. He's thrown for six touchdowns and has yet to throw an interception this season. He won't put up monster yardage numbers, but he is also limiting his mistakes. Campbell should head into Week 5's game in Philadelphia as a borderline No. 1 Fantasy QB.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell will face division rival Dallas in Week 4. In two games against Dallas last season, he totaled 348 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. The Cowboys rank 19th against the pass through three weeks, allowing 207.7 yards per game.
Analysis: Campbell had decent numbers in leading Washington to a win over the Cardinals in Week 3. He went 22-for-30 for 193 yards and two touchdowns. The good news is that it does look like Campbell is growing with the Redskins West Coast offense. The bad news is he still sometimes makes poor decisions. Still, he's limiting the mistakes and can be treated as a No. 2 Fantasy QB heading into Week 4 against Dallas.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell had good numbers in leading Washington to a win over the Cardinals in Week 3. Campbell went 22-for-30 for 193 yards and two touchdowns. He hit Todd Yoder with a 2-yard pass in the third quarter and found Santana Moss on a screen play that went 17 yards for the score in the fourth. Campbell also ran the ball four times for 26 yards.
Analysis: Campbell actually topped 300 yards passing last week with one touchdown so his two touchdown performance can be viewed as another small improvement. The good news is that it does look like Campbell is growing with the Redskins West Coast offense. The bad news is he still sometimes makes poor decisions. Still, he's limiting the mistakes and can be treated as a No. 2 Fantasy QB heading into Week 4 against Dallas.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell completed 12-of-18 passes for 95 yards and an interception in a 2007 meeting with the Cardinals. Washington hosts Arizona in Week 3.
Analysis: Arizona made Chad Pennington look very mediocre in Week 2 and the Cardinals have yet to allow a touchdown through the air this season. Campbell had a great game last Sunday, but look for him to come back down to earth in Week 3. Consider him a No. 2 Fantasy QB for the time being.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell's numbers will go down looking far better than his performance on Sunday in a win over the Saints. Still, Campbell hit Santana Moss on a 67-yard touchdown strike when it counted to lead Washington to victory. Campbell finished with 24-of-36 passing for 321 yards and the one touchdown. He didn't throw a pick.
Analysis: His coach Jim Zorn expected him to improve upon his Week 1 stats and he certainly did that on Sunday against the Saints. The Redskins face Arizona's porous defense at home next week and Campbell could put up similar numbers in that one, too. That makes him a decent option in deeper Fantasy leagues as a high-end No. 2 QB option.
News:Jason Campbell didn't look at all comfortable in the Meadowlands, and neither did Jim Zorn. Maybe they just aren't meant for each other. If they are, it's going to take awhile to find out. From quarterback indecision to poor clock management, the Washington Redskins were overmatched and overwhelmed for much of the night in Zorn's coaching debut. While the regular season is kicking in for everyone else, the burgundy and gold still looked very much in preseason mode in Thursday night's 16-7 loss to the New York Giants. "It's not just me; it's everybody," Campbell said Friday. "Hopefully the light's going to come on quick for all of us, including the offensive coaches, and we build some kind of continuity and get trust going with each other, and get things going."
Analysis: Zorn criticized himself more than he picked on Campbell after reviewing the tape, but he left no doubt that the project of molding his drop-back quarterback into an efficient West Coast passer will take a bit longer than expected. "He had enough minuses to know where he needs to improve," Zorn said. Campbell didn't complete a pass until the final two minutes of the first half, when the score was already 16-0. The Redskins were outgained 241-51 in the half and didn't have a drive last more than six plays until late in the fourth quarter. Campbell finished 15-for-27 for 133 yards with one touchdown, numbers that don't come close to reflecting the offense's struggles. "He'll have more improvement as he comes along, and he's going to grow with this offense," Zorn said. There is a lot of excitement building around Zorn's West Coast offense and Campbell, but he still has a long ways to go to mastering it. Campbell has some good targets in Moss, Chris Cooley and Clinton Portis, but remains more of a No. 2 Fantasy QB heading into Week 2 against the Saints.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell made his 2008 debut Week 1 against the Giants and led the Washington offense under first-year head coach Jim Zorn. However, he didn't have a lot of success in a 16-7 loss. He led just one scoring drive, which resulted in a 12-yard touchdown pass to Santana Moss with 13 seconds left in the first half. He didn't create any turnovers, but completed just 15 of 27 passes for 133 yards. Campbell was sacked once for an 8-yard loss.
Analysis: There is a lot of excitement building around Zorn's West Coast offense and Campbell, but he still has a long ways to go to mastering it. Campbell has some good targets in Moss, Chris Cooley and Clinton Portis, but remains more of a No. 2 Fantasy QB heading into Week 2 against the Saints. They don't exactly have a dominant defense, so Campbell might be a low-end No. 1 Fantasy QB in very deep formats.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell played in just one of the two matchups between Washington and the N.Y. Giants in 2007. He completed 16 of 34 passes in Week 3 for 190 yards, including one touchdown pass and no interceptions. He was sacked twice in that game.
Analysis: Campbell missed the second matchup between the two teams due to a knee injury. The Giants will be without Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora on the edges of their defensive line this time around, but Umenyiora wasn't around last year in Week 3 either. Campbell enters the season as a No. 2 quarterback to be used when the right matchup arises and Week 1 on the road against the defending world champions doesn't exactly feel like one of those games.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell was 6-for-10 for only 39 yards on Saturday against the Panthers. The QB held onto the ball too long and was sacked four times.
Analysis: This seems to be the norm for Campbell who is looking less and less comfortable in new coach Jim Zorn's West Coast Offense. Consider Campbell a top-end No. 2 Fantasy option in 2008 and a decent sleeper. He's well worth a late-round pick in every draft this summer if he can somehow grasp what Zorn is trying to instill.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell didn't play long but impressed again on Saturday at home against the Bills. Campbell finished 7-for-10 for 71 yards, including a down-field strike in stride to Santana Moss.
Analysis: Campbell has the chance for a big year in 2008 with the additions of rookies Devin Thomas, Fred Davis and Malcolm Kelly to go with Santana Moss and Chris Cooley. Playing in Zorn's offense, expect Campbell's completion percentage to improve, which means that so long as his receivers are making plays, he'll be doing fine. Consider Campbell a top-end No. 2 Fantasy option in 2008 and a decent sleeper. He's well worth a late-round pick in every draft this summer.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell made a nice debut in Sunday's Hall of Fame game, starting and completing all five of his attempts for 61 yards and a 20-yard touchdown strike to Antwaan Randle El. Campbell has been named Washington's starter and has looked good in training camp practices so far. He's excited about playing in new head coach Jim Zorn's pass-friendly offense, and Zorn is excited about how well Campbell and the offense did early on. "I was excited to be able to score on the first drive," Zorn said. "There is nothing more remarkable than that."
News: The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that Redskins QB Jason Campbell has continued doing well in practice, earning high praise from new head coach Jim Zorn. Zorn has implemented the West Coast Offense, a pass-friendly system based on timing routes and lots of short and intermediate throws to running backs and receivers. Campbell has been in a version of this offense before and likes how he fits in with it. "I had this offense my senior year in college. That kind of gave me an idea of what we're doing," Campbell said. "That helped me out a lot. The terminology is a little bit different. I had nothing against Al's offense, I thought it was a great offense, but I like this offense."
Consider Campbell a No. 2 Fantasy option in 2008 and a decent sleeper. He's well worth a late-round pick in every draft this summer.
News: The Washington Post reports Redskins QB Jason Campbell said he is adjusting to getting lower under center and that the hamstring problem from the last round of OTAs in early May no longer bothers him. "It's something that's behind me," he said.
Analysis: It appears Campbell will be fine for the start of training camp. He has the chance for a big year in 2008 with the additions of rookies Devin Thomas, Fred Davis and Malcolm Kelly to go with Santana Moss and Chris Cooley. Campbell is going to play in a new offense with coach Jim Zorn, which should help his completion percentage. Consider Campbell a No. 2 Fantasy option in 2008 and a decent sleeper.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell Campbell strained his left hamstring during Wednesday's practice session, reports the Washington Times. Campbell said his hamstring grabbed a little early in practice. He expects to be 100 percent in a couple of weeks. "I just pulled my hamstring a little bit," said Campbell, who last year missed the final three-plus regular-season games and the wild-card loss at Seattle with a dislocated left kneecap. "I won't be running for a while." Jim Zorn found a bright side to the injury because it meant his quarterback lowered himself under center as the new coach has asked him to. "He was feeling his hamstrings all along, and I think it was because I have him sinking down a little bit," Zorn said. "It's the change. I was kind of excited about it. Not that I wanted him to tweak his hamstring, just the fact that different things are happening to his body. He's going to be fine."
Analysis: Look for Campbell to be fine for the start of training camp. He has the chance for a big year in 2008 with the additions of rookies Devin Thomas, Fred Davis and Malcolm Kelly to go with Santana Moss and Chris Cooley. Campbell is going to play in a new offense with Zorn, which should help his completion percentage. Consider Campbell a No. 2 Fantasy option in 2008 and a decent sleeper.
News: Starting 2007 as the Redskins' starting quarterback, Jason Campbell completed 250-of-417 passes (60 pct.) for 2,700 yards (6.47 yards per attempt) with 12 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, adding 185 rush yards and a rush touchdown. However, those numbers didn't play out consistently as he only had one set of back-to-back multi-TD games and managed two 300-plus yardage sessions. Campbell tore his left patella tendon in Week 14 and didn't return to the field thereafter.
Analysis: Campbell will most likely be learning his seventh new offense in eight years (dating back to his days at Auburn) with Jim Zorn taking over as the Seahawks' head coach. That might mean the West-Coast Offense coming to Washington, which would boost Campbell's potential a little bit. With his knee not expected to be an issue, Campbell is a low-risk, medium-reward sleeper for 2008, worth selecting as a No. 2 Fantasy QB with a late-round pick in drafts this summer.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell (knee) has been ruled out for a Wild Card game at Seattle. He did not participate in the walk-through practice Wednesday and did not practice with the team Thursday. Campbell has been inactive for the last three games after being injured Week 14 against the Bears.
Analysis: Todd Collins has been playing so well that there is no need to rush Campbell back. For all those Fantasy owners in playoff leagues, Campbell is a risky pick since he might not even make it back if the Redskins make it to the second round. He will head into the 2008 season as a No. 2 Fantasy QB.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell (knee) did not participate in the walk-through practice Wednesday as the team prepares for a Wild Card game at Seattle. Campbell has been inactive for the last three games after being injured Week 14 against the Bears.
Analysis: Campbell won't start against the Seahawks and might be inactive once again. Todd Collins has been playing so well that there is no need to rush Campbell back. For all those Fantasy owners in playoff leagues, Campbell is a risky pick. He will head into the 2008 season as a No. 2 Fantasy QB.
News: The Redskins have declared QB Jason Campbell out for Week 17 against the Cowboys, meaning he'll miss his third straight game with a dislocated kneecap.
Analysis: Campbell made progress in his first season starting -- both in-season and from previous seasons -- but he won't enter 2008 as more than a No. 2 Fantasy QB. He has room to grow into more, of course. The injury shouldn't affect him heading into next season.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell, DB Pierson Prioleau, DL Ryan Boschetti, WR Keenan McCardell, TE Todd Yoder, QB Sam Hollenbach (3rd QB) and DL Alex Buzbee have all been ruled inactived for Week 16 at Minnesota.
Analysis: Campbell is expected to miss the remaining regular season games with a knee injury, but you never know, he might be back Week 17. When healthy, he is nothing more than a No. 2 Fantasy QB. The remaining inactive players have little to no Fantasy value. Keep them reserved Week 16.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell (knee) is out for Week 16 at Minnesota. It will be the second straight game he misses after injuring his knee Week 14. Todd Collins, who led the team to a victory Week 15 against the Giants, will be under center against the Vikings.
Analysis: Chances are that Campbell won't help Fantasy owners for the rest of this season. Consider him a safe drop from all non-keeper Fantasy rosters at this time. The Redskins are holding out hope that he is back in lineup before the season ends.
News: Redskins QB QB Jason Campbell, DB John Eubanks, WR Anthony Mix, TE Brian Kozlowski, LB Randall Godfrey and DL Ryan Boschetti have all been ruled inactive for Week 15 at N.Y. Giants.
Analysis: Campbell will miss his first game Week 15 after suffering a knee injury Week 14 against the Bears that could keep him out the rest of the season. He is merely a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB when healthy. The remaining inactive players have little to no Fantasy value. Keep them reserved Week 15.
News: The Redskins made it official Friday by ruling QB Jason Campbell out Week 15 at N.Y. Giants with a knee injury. He did not practice all week after being injured Week 14 against the Bears. Todd Collins will take his place in the starting lineup.
Analysis: Chances are that Campbell won't help Fantasy owners for the rest of this season. Consider him a safe drop from all non-keeper Fantasy rosters at this time. The Redskins are holding out hope that he is back in lineup before the season ends.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell (knee) did not practice Wednesday or Thursday as the team prepares for Week 15 at N.Y. Giants. Campbell will likely not be in uniform Sunday and it has already been announced that Todd Collins will start at quarterback.
Analysis: Chances are that Campbell won't help Fantasy owners for the rest of this season. Consider him a safe drop from all non-keeper Fantasy rosters at this time. The Redskins are holding out hope that he is back in lineup before the season ends.
News: An MRI on Jason Campbell's dislocated kneecap revealed that the injury probably would not require surgery, coach Joe Gibbs said Friday. He said it was "too early to decide" whether Campbell would play again in the regular season, but added that it was safe to presume that Todd Collins will start the next game, Dec. 16 against the Giants. "We're just thankful it was no worse than what it is," Gibbs said.
Analysis: Chances are that Campbell won't help Fantasy owners for the rest of this season. Consider him a safe drop from all non-keeper Fantasy rosters at this time; Todd Collins would be a desperation replacement. The Redskins play the Giants in Week 15.
News: NFL Network reports that Redskins QB Jason Campbell tore his patella tendon in his left knee and is expected to be out for the remainder of the regular season. Campbell injured his knee in the second quarter when he fled the pocket to the right and threw an incomplete pass before a handful of Bears' defenders fell on his left leg, which got trapped under a pileup. Campbell immediately removed his helmet and rolled around with much discomfort. The trainers came out and put an air cast on his left leg. He was then carted off the field. Campbell finished with 100 yards passing and was replaced by Todd Collins, who threw two touchdowns in a Redskins victory.
Analysis: Campbell will have an MRI exam Friday to confirm the prognosis, but chances are that he won't help Fantasy owners for the rest of this season. Consider him a safe drop from all non-keeper Fantasy rosters at this time; Todd Collins would be a desperation replacement. The Redskins play the Giants in Week 15.
News: Redskins Jason Campbell heads into Week 14's game with the Bears having thrown four interceptions and only three touchdowns in his last three contests. He did go over 300 yards in two of those games, however.
Analysis: Campbell is nothing more than a low-end backup QB in the Fantasy world and has at least one interception in seven of his last eight games, which hurts owners badly in league that punish mistakes like picks. Do not start him in Week 14 against the Bears unless you start two QBs and are struggling at the position.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell completed 21 of 37 passes for 216 yards in Week 13 vs. Buffalo. He did not throw a touchdown and turned the ball over twice on an interception and a fumble.
Analysis: Campbell did have four carries for 19 yards, but he most likely did not help anyone who started him in Fantasy play. He's a very erratic quarterback who is not in a good offensive situation with the Redskins. Leave him reserved for Week 14 vs. a tough Chicago defense.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell has a 90.0 QB rating at home, but only a 72.5 rating on the road this season. He has thrown the ball a lot less at home, but has six touchdowns and three picks, versus six touchdowns and five picks on the road. The Redskins host the Bills in Week 13.
Analysis: Campbell has six touchdown passes over his last three games, but half of those came in one outing. Buffalo's pass defense ranks 29th against the pass, so Campbell definitely has a chance for another nice game in Week 13, but the question for all Redskins players this week is whether they will be mentally up for this contest. Consider him a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB for the game.
News: For the second straight week, Redskins QB Jason Campbell threw for over 300 yards in Washington's 19-13 loss to Tampa Bay in Week 12. Campbell threw one touchdown and two interceptions and also lost a fumble. Additionally, he ran two times for four yards.
Analysis: Campbell was brutal in the first half on Sunday (8-of-17 for 77 yards), but really came on strong in the second half as he tried to bring the Redskins all the way back from a 19-3 deficit. His second interception came in the end zone on the last offensive play of the game for Washington. Consider Campbell a No. 2 Fantasy QB in Week 13 against the Bills.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell played much better than expected last week against Dalls with 348 yards passing, two touchdowns and one interception. In his past two games, Campbell has five touchdowns and one interception. But the Bucs are No. 3 in pass defense with seven touchdowns allowed and 11 interceptions, so expect Campbell to have a tougher time this week.
Analysis: Campbell has played well recently, but he's worth using as a No. 2 option at best against Tampa Bay this week.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell threw for a career-high 348 yards in Week 11 at Dallas. He completed 33-of-54 passes and threw two touchdown passes and an interception. He also lost a fumble.
Analysis: Campbell hadn't attempted as much as 40 passes all season, so the 54 attempts are a bit of a shock. It was more a function of a come-from-behind offense in the second half in a shootout-type game against the Cowboys. Don't expect this to continue on a regular basis. In Week 12 at Tampa Bay, consider Campbell merely a No. 2 Fantasy QB or an injury replacement.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell threw for a career-high three touchdowns last week in a loss to the Eagles and will look to lead his team to a critical divisional victory over the Cowboys in Week 11. It will be his first career game vs. Dallas.
Analysis: The Cowboys pass defense ranks 17th in the league in yards allowed, but that's basically because teams are being forced to pass against them -- either because they're coming from behind or because they can't run the ball. They picked off Eli Manning twice and held him below 250 yards in Week 10, so Campbell faces a tough task in what is basically a must-win for the Redskins. Consider him nothing more than a No. 2 Fantasy QB in Week 11.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell had the first three-touchdown game of his career vs. Philadelphia in Week 10, thanks to a huge game from James Thrash, who started in place of Santana Moss. The Redskins finally let Campbell loose as they ran a balanced offense on the ground and through the air. Thrash caught two of Campbell's touchdowns; Keenan McCardell caught the third one. Campbell added 16 rush yards, and lost a fumble.
Analysis: Campbell has the potential to be a very good quarterback in the NFL -- this game is proof of it. He has a poor matchup at Dallas in Week 11, so expect him to sit on your bench next week, but for those of you in dynasty/keeper leagues, Campbell is well worth holding onto.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell heads into Week 10's game against the Eagles on the back of four consecutive games with an interception. He only has two touchdowns over that span.
Analysis: Campbell isn't being relied upon to win the Redskins games and he shouldn't be relied upon to win Fantasy contests either. He hasn't thrown for over 250 yards yet in 2007 and has only one touchdown pass in his last three outings. The Eagles pass defense isn't great, but should improve every week as Brian Dawkins gets back up to game speed. Consider Campbell nothing more than a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB in Week 10.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell threw for 142 yards in Week 9 at the N.Y. Jets. He completed 12-of-23 passes and was intercepted once.
Analysis: Campbell has thrown multiple touchdown passes in only one week this season and now has an interception in four straight weeks. He has only gone without an interception twice. Clearly, the Redskins offense is not set up for major passing performances from Campbell and we don't recommend him even as a bye-week replacement for Week 10 vs. Philadelphia.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell has 16 touchdown passes in 14 career starts and has a superb chance to add to that total in Week 9 when he faces a weak Jets defense on the road.
Analysis: Campbell hasn't reached the 250-yard passing mark this season and only has one game with more than one touchdown pass. He is clearly not a good Fantasy QB, although he's doing a fine job with the Redskins overall. Consider him a No. 2 Fantasy QB for Week 9.
News: Jason Campbell did not look good in a 21-for-36 passing effort at New England in Week 8, but he finished with 197 yards through the air and a touchdown with an interception. However, his three fumbles lost killed his day Fantasywise. He also had a seven-yard run. It looked like the Redskins' game plan was to let Campbell try some deep passes, but he couldn't connect on any of them (Clinton Portis was his leading receiver). The Patriots did a good job putting pressure on Campbell, sacking him three times and forcing that trio of fumbles.
Analysis: Campbell continues to make progress as an NFL quarterback, but this was a game we knew he'd struggle in against a bright and aggressive New England defense. Want some good news? Campbell and the Redskins play the Jets in Week 9, and their defense is about as far from the Patriots as you can get. Consider Campbell a bye-week replacement option for the coming week's action.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell had the worst day of his career during a Week 7 win over the Cardinals, and will face the ridiculously good Patriots defense in Week 8.
Analysis: Campbell's Fantasy ranking took a nose-dive after his poor outing in Week 7 and the fact he plays New England in Week 8. If you can afford to bench him in Week 8, please go ahead and do so.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell had the worst day of his career during a Week 7 win over the Cardinals. Campbell completed 12-of-18 passes for 95 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception. It was the first time in his young career he was held under 100 passing yards. He rushed two times for seven yards.
Analysis: Campbell by no stretch of the imagination has been a great quarterback, but he posted more than 100 yards in each of his first 12 pro starts. He was just flat out awful against the Cardinals. He sure hopes for better days, but that might not come in Week 8 against the Patriots. It is probably best to view Campbell as no better than a No. 2 Fantasy QB at this time.
News: In Week 7, Jason Campbell and the Redskins host the Cardinals, who may rank 13th against the pass but have allowed six passing TDs and 712 passing yards in their last three games. Campbell, meanwhile, has thrown four touchdowns in his last three overall with a rushing score.
Analysis: Campbell is a fantastic bye-week Fantasy QB in Week 7, as well as a low-end No. 1/top-end No. 2 pick. He won't wow you with passing stats (especially in a game where Washington should build a big lead) but he should deliver a couple of touchdowns.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell was 21-of-37 passing for 217 yards, one touchdown and an interception Sunday against the Packers. He also had two carries for 6 yards and a touchdown.
Analysis: Campbell has played well this year and is worth using as a low-end starting option in Week 7 against the Cardinals.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell completed 23 of 29 passes (79.3 pct.) for 248 yards with touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 5 for a career-best 125.3 passer rating. He now has at least one touchdown pass in 10 of his 11 career starts.
Analysis: Campbell and the Redskins play at Green Bay in Week 6, and Campbell should be able to put together some quality numbers against a Packers pass defense that ranks 23rd in the league in yards allowed. We rank him as a solid No. 2 Fantasy QB for this week.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell was 23-of-29 passing for 248 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions Sunday against Detroit. He also had two carries for no yards.
Analysis: Campbell played like a No. 1 Fantasy option. He is more like a No. 2 option, however, and use him as a bye-week option in Week 6 at Green Bay.
News: Even if Santana Moss (groin) is unable to go, Redskins QB Jason Campbell should be able to make some plays at home in Week 5 against Detroit. The Lions are No. 30 in pass defense, and Campbell has thrown a touchdown in nine of his 10 career starts.
Analysis: This game has the potential to be high-scoring, which could benefit Campbell, who has just 621 yards passing, two touchdowns and three interceptions on the season. He is due for a breakout game, and this is the week. Give Campbell some consideration if you are in desperate need of a bye-week replacement.
News: Many Fantasy owners drafted Redskins QB Jason Campbell to be a bye-week option for this very week, figuring that the Lions defense would be a cakewalk for Campbell. However, Campbell has proven earlier this season that just because he has a favorable matchup doesn't mean he rises to the occasion. Campbell's passing totals have dropped in every game this season, never going higher than the 222 yards he threw for in Week 1. Defenses like the Dolphins and Giants held Campbell in check, as has the Redskins playcalling, which is more run oriented than we initially believed. Moreover, Campbell may not have No. 1 WR Santana Moss on his side for the game against the Lions.
Analysis: Matchup freaks won't be swayed by the Lions 30th-ranked pass defense or the eight passing scores they've allowed, but they must take heed in the Lions' nine interceptions they've had so far (tied with Dallas for the league lead). If you're going with Campbell in Week 5 vs. Detroit, make sure you've exhausted other options since it's clear that he cannot be relied upon for more than 225 yards or so with just one touchdown.
News: The Giants came into a Week 3 showdown against the Redskins with the worst pass defense in the NFL, allowing 310.5 yards per game. Redskins QB Jason Campbell was expected to have a big game, but had quite the opposite outcome. He completed just 47 percent of his passes (16-for-34) for 190 yards and one touchdown. He did not throw an interception. Campbell was sacked twice and fumbled three times, but only lost one to the opposition. He finished with four rushes for 12 yards.
Analysis: Campbell has just two touchdown passes through three games and is barely completing more than 50 percent of his passes. He has a long ways to go before becoming a must-start Fantasy option. The Redskins are on a bye Week 4, but return to action Week 5 against the Lions. Campbell might be used as a stopgap Fantasy option against a weak Lions secondary.
News: In Redskins QB Jason Campbell's only career start against the Giants, his Week 3 opponent, he had 220 yards passing and two touchdowns. The Giants are last in pass defense at 310.5 yards per game and are second in the NFL with seven passing touchdowns allowed.
Analysis: Campbell didn't produce the most impressive of numbers in Week 2 at Philadelphia, but he managed to complete 10-of-18 passes for 143 yards, one touchdown and one interception. More importantly, he led his team to a big 20-12 divisional win on the road. Campbell is still far off from being a must-start Fantasy option, but no one would blame you for playing the matchup in Week 3 against a bad Giants defense.
News: Jason Campbell didn't produce the most impressive of numbers in Week 2 at Philadelphia, but he managed to complete 10-of-18 passes for 143 yards, one touchdown and one interception. More importantly, he led his team to a big 20-12 divisional win on the road.
Analysis: It was just Campbell's ninth start and the offense was pretty listless most of the night. He misfired on a play to Santana Moss in the fourth quarter with the receiver wide open down the middle which would have put him into the 200 yards range with two touchdowns. He's that close to being useful in Fantasy leagues, but for now, keep him as a reserve. The Redskins host the Giants in Week 3.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell failed to throw a touchdown pass for the first time in eight games as a starter in Week 1 against Miami and finished with two interceptions. Now he faces the Eagles, who didn't allow a touchdown pass against Green Bay last week and sacked Brett Favre four times.
Analysis: Campbell looked a little lost in the Week 1 victory vs. Miami and the Eagles defense will be chasing him around the backfield on Monday night. Campbell is a No. 2 Fantasy QB and should only be starting as a bye-week replacement this season.
News: Jason Campbell is looking to do better against the Eagles on Monday night than he did against them late last season. In Campbell's fourth career NFL start, he completed 15-of-27 passes for 182 yards with one TD and two interceptions. Moreover, the Eagles have a history of holding Washington's passers' stats down. You'd have to go back to December of 2004 to find the last time the Redskins had a passer throw for more than 250 yards against the Eagles (Patrick Ramsey hit them up for 275 yards).
Analysis: Campbell didn't look particularly good in Washington's Week 1 OT victory over Miami, but he did just enough to not lose the game. Campbell is a low-end No. 2 QB at best and shouldn't be a starting option for the Skins' Week 2, Monday night matchup at Philadelphia.
News: Washington QB Jason Campbell was 12-of-21 for 222 yards in the Redskins' Week 1 OT win vs. Miami. He also threw two interceptions and ran for 29 yards on four carries.
Analysis: Campbell didn't have a touchdown throw on Sunday, but he didn't disgrace himself, either, especially when you consider he lost OT John Jansen in the first half to injury. The Redskins offense isn't anything to write home about, so Campbell is a low-end No. 2 QB at best and shouldn't be a starting option for the Skins' Week 2 matchup at Philadelphia.
News: Washington Redskins QB Jason Campbell appears healthy after hurting his knee in the preseason, but his Week 1 opponent, the Miami Dolphins, will test him this week.
Analysis: Miami placed fifth in pass defense last year and third with 47 sacks, though you'd probably bench Campbell even against a lesser opponent. He enters 2007 as a No. 2 Fantasy quarterback at best.
News: Jason Campbell got a much-needed touchdown. Campbell returned to the starting lineup after missing last week's game with a bruised left knee. He was 5-of-5 passing for 54 yards and a touchdown in Washington's 31-14 loss to the Jaguars on Thursday night in the preseason finale for both teams. Campbell played just one series, but it was exactly what the Redskins (2-2) wanted to see from the third-year pro. Although he got hit once, he had ample time in the pocket and capped the drive with a 23-yard strike down the sideline to Antwaan Randle El. It was Campbell's first touchdown pass of the preseason, an encouraging sign for an offense that scored just 37 points in its first three games.
Analysis: In his first training camp as a starter, Campbell has played less than three quarters in preseason. But he also started seven games last year and appears to have a firm grasp of the offense. Campbell's knee injury seems to be of little concern, and he should still be considered a No. 2 Fantasy QB.
News: Campbell, who missed last week's preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens with a bruised knee, practiced and said he remains on track to start Thursday. "He looks fine to me," coach Joe Gibbs said.
Analysis: In his first training camp as a starter, Campbell has played less than three quarters in preseason. But he also started seven games last year and appears to have a firm grasp of the offense. Furthermore, playing him on Thursday presents a risk: The left side of the offensive line is still not at full strength. Campbell's knee injury is a concern, but he should still be considered a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: QB Jason Campbell made a statement Monday in what has been a preseason full of questions for the Washington Redskins offense. "I'm going to play Thursday," Campbell said. "I'm going to go out there and give it all I've got." Then Campbell went on to say that he still had some soreness in his bruised left knee and that his availability for the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars could hinge on how he feels after running bootlegs in practice on Tuesday. To which coach Joe Gibbs added that Campbell has to be "100 percent" to play. "One thing a QB can't do is have too much time away, because you lose your rhythm and you lose your edge," Campbell said. "All the things we worked so hard on over the summer, you don't want to lose it right before we start the season."
Analysis: In his first training camp as a starter, Campbell has played less than three quarters in preseason and missed Saturday's game against Baltimore. But he also started seven games last year and appears to have a firm grasp of the offense. Furthermore, playing him on Thursday presents a risk: The left side of the offensive line is still not at full strength. Campbell's knee injury is a concern, but he should still be considered a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: Jason Campbell has a severely bruised knee from a hit in last week's loss to Pittsburgh, so Todd Collins will start Saturday against the Ravens as coach Joe Gibbs follows an odd rotation in the competition for the No. 2 quarterback job. Running back Clinton Portis remains sidelined with tendinitis in his knee. Also, Marcus Washington is recovering from a dislocated elbow, so Randall Godfrey -- who put off retirement this week to sign with the Redskins -- could see some playing time at linebacker.
Analysis: Campbell should start for Washington in Week 1, and he's a decent Fantasy sleeper. Call him a top-end No. 2 Fantasy QB worth a pick in the late rounds of most drafts.
News: Redskins QBs Mark Brunell and Todd Collins said they still haven't received word as to who will start Saturday. Jason Campbell (bruised left knee) didn't practice and isn't expected to play so that he will be ready for the start of the season.
Analysis: Campbell should start for Washington in Week 1, and he's a decent Fantasy sleeper. Call him a top-end No. 2 Fantasy QB worth a pick in the late rounds of most drafts. Brunell (whose name has been in trade rumors with the Falcons) and Collins won't be useful for Fantasy owners to sign unless they land some regular playing time.
News: Jason Campbell's MRI exam confirmed the initial diagnosis of a bruised left knee suffered in Washington's preseason game vs. Pittsburgh on Saturday. "It's sore," said Campbell, emerging with a slight limp and white bandage around his knee. "The good news is all the ligaments are in place. I'm thankful to God that it's nothing more serious than it is. Nine times out of 10 when you see that, it's usually something torn, something that's not good. I did get kind of lucky."
Analysis: Campbell and coach Joe Gibbs said they'll see how the knee feels as the week progresses before deciding whether the third-year quarterback will play in Saturday's game against the Baltimore Ravens. It's customary for a team to err on the side of caution in dealing with the starting quarterback in preseason, but Gibbs wants Campbell to get as much work as possible after last year's slow start. Campbell is a sleeper for 2007 -- he was good in this game before the injury -- but is at best a top-end No. 2 Fantasy QB worth a pick in the late rounds of most drafts.
News: Jason Campbell limped down the hallway outside the Washington Redskins locker room, favoring his bruised left knee and feeling a bit lucky. As is often the case, injuries overshadowed results in an exhibition game. The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Redskins 12-10 in a game that included five field goals, one touchdown, and three scary moments. Campbell was hit flush on the knee in the first quarter by Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel, who was assessed with a personal foul for a low hit on a quarterback in the pocket. Campbell grabbed his knee in pain and remained on the field for a couple of minutes before gingerly limping to the sideline. X-rays revealed only a bruise -- and no serious ligament damage that could ruin his season.
Analysis: "The scary thing about it, when he hit me, it just felt awkward," Campbell said. "It felt weak, but after they started stretching and pulling on it a little bit, the strength got back into it. Right now it's just stiff and sore, so I expect a full recovery soon." Campbell isn't sure how soon, but he should recover in time for the regular season. Right now Campbell is day to day. Campbell has 'sleeper' written all over him thanks to his physical make-up but needs to prove it on the stat sheet. Consider him at best a No. 2 Fantasy QB in 2007 until told otherwise.
News: Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell left the first quarter of Saturday night's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers with a knee injury. Campbell was hit flush on the left knee by Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel, who beat rookie free agent left tackle Stephon Heyer and stumbled as he kept up his pursuit. Keisel was assessed with a personal foul for a low hit on a quarterback in the pocket. Campbell, who completed the pass for a 29-yard gain to tight end Chris Cooley, grabbed his knee in pain and remained on the field for a couple of minutes before gingerly limping to the sideline. The Redskins said the initial diagnosis was a bruised knee.
Analysis: Heyer was playing in place of Pro Bowl tackle Chris Samuels, who has been sidelined with a sprained knee. It looks as though the Redskins might be paying big time for not having an adequate backup for Samuels. Right now Campbell is day to day, but we have seen what low hits can do to QBs -- a la Carson Palmer. Campbell has 'sleeper' written all over him thanks to his physical make-up but needs to prove it on the stat sheet. Consider him at best a No. 2 Fantasy QB in 2007 until told otherwise.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell understandably is in a hurry for left tackle Chris Samuels' healthy return in Washington. The starter after taking over the final seven games last season, Campbell got to play with rookie free agent Stephon Hayer starting at left tackle with Samuels out with a knee injury during Saturday's preseason game against the Titans. Campbell continued the Redskins' offensive struggles from last preseason when the first-team unit never got inside the opponent's 20 by getting only to the Titans 29. He finished 6-of-14 for 104 yards. The Titans sacked Campbell twice in the first nine minutes.
Analysis: Samuels is a fantastic left tackle who would be sorely missed if hurt for an extended period of time. As it stands, expect him to be ready for the regular season, which will only help Campbell's progression as he enters the year as the starting QB in D.C. Campbell has 'sleeper' written all over him thanks to his physical make-up but needs to prove it on the stat sheet. Consider him at best a No. 2 Fantasy QB in 2007.
News: Four-time Pro Bowl LT Chris Samuels could miss all of the preseason games after hurting his right knee during the afternoon practice. An MRI revealed an isolated grade 2 sprain of the MCL, which will sideline him up to four weeks. Samuels was hurt when another player fell on the leg during a play-action pass, and the surrounding players reacted with a collective "oooooh" as he went down. "I thought it was over with for the season," said Samuels, who sprained the same knee in 2003.
Analysis: Samuels is a fantastic left tackle who would be sorely missed if hurt for an extended period of time. As it stands, expect him to be ready for the regular season, which will only help Jason Campbell's progression as he enters the year as the starting QB in D.C. Campbell has 'sleeper' written all over him thanks to his physical make-up but needs to prove it on the stat sheet. Consider him at best a No. 2 Fantasy QB in 2007.
News: The Washington Post reports that Redskins QB Jason Campbell has begun studying the team's playbook and plans on working extensively this offseason with offensive coach Al Saunders. "This is an incredibly important time for Jason," said Saunders. "There is nothing elementary to that position -- the quarterback position is probably the most intricate position on the football field for all the things you're required to do. And what Jason hasn't had is the same system two years in row. This is the first time in his career he will be able to be taught the techniques and fundamentals he can fall back on and rely on in times of stress. Now we have the opportunity for him to see himself on video in a competitive environment in the NFL, and work from the ground floor up. It's dependent on him, and dependent on the people around him, to devise the proper workload for him. And his will be a bit more extensive than most."
Analysis: Campbell started seven games, finishing with 1,297 pass yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions with 107 rush yards. He never threw for more than 220 yards in a game, but had at least one score in every start and three two-TD games. Campbell has 'sleeper' written all over him thanks to his physical make-up but needs to prove it on the stat sheet. With Washington lacking in the receiving department, consider him at best a No. 2 Fantasy QB in 2007.
News: Jason Campbell started the 2006 season as the No. 3 quarterback, but was promoted to starter in time to start seven games. He finished with 1,297 pass yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions with 107 rush yards. He never threw for more than 220 yards in a game, but had at least one score in every start and three two-TD games. Campbell never looked unprepared or tentative while under center and could benefit from the Redskins upgrading their passing game.
Analysis: Expect Campbell to be Washington's starting quarterback in 2007, and to be a useful No. 2 Fantasy QB. While his measurables are great, he didn't show enough to be a reliable producer statistically. If the Skins do enough to upgrade their pass offense, then Campbell could receive more consideration.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell completed 21-of-31 passes for 220 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in a Week 17 loss to the Giants. He also rushed for 30 yards.
Analysis: Campbell looked very composed at times during the game against the Giants and finished the season strong with 10 touchdowns. He will likely be viewed as a No. 2 Fantasy QB on Draft Day 2007.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell was 13-of-26 passing for 160 yards and a touchdown against the Rams. He also had one carry for 7 yards.
Analysis: Consider Campbell a No. 2 option for Week 17 against the Giants.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell threw for 204 yards and a touchdown in Week 15 at New Orleans. He finished 13-for-28 passing and did not turn the ball over.
Analysis: He didn't have an amazing game, but he led the Redskins to an impressive road victory against New Orleans. Use Campbell in larger leagues for another game inside a dome in Week 16 at St. Louis.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell threw two interceptions in Week 14 vs. Philadelphia. He completed 15-of-27 passes and finished with only one touchdown to Antwaan Randle El. He added 38 yards rushing on the ground.
Analysis: Campbell remains the starting QB for the time being and that's enough to make him useful in leagues of 12-plus teams for Week 15 at New Orleans.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell completed 18-of-38 passes for 217 yards and a touchdown in a Week 13 loss to the Falcons. He also threw two interceptions -- one coming in the end zone late in the game as the Redskins were attempting a comeback.
Analysis: Campbell just made his third start against the Falcons in Week 13 and it can be expected that he will have these kinds of weeks as he is learning the pro game. He should be considered no better than a No. 2 Fantasy QB for Week 14 at Philadelphia.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell sat on the bench his entire rookie year, but he has played well in two starts since taking over from Mark Brunell. He has four touchdown passes and one interception with one win and one loss, and he's only the fourth player in NFL history to have two TD passes in each of his first two games.
Analysis: Campbell is having a nice start to his career, but he should still be considered a No. 2 QB for Week 13 against Atlanta.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell was 11-of-23 passing for 118 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against Carolina. Campbell also had four carries for 7 yards.
Analysis: Consider Campbell a No. 2 QB for Week 13 against Atlanta.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell had a decent debut at Tampa Bay in Week 11, completing 19-of-34 passes for 196 yards and two TDs (both to TEs -- Chris Cooley and Todd Yoder). He added 11 rush yards and did a nice job not turning the ball over. All but seven of his completions went to running backs and tight ends.
Analysis: Campbell is worth a flier as a third QB in Fantasy play. He should not start under any circumstances vs. Carolina in Week 12.
News: Washington coach Joe Gibbs on Monday named Jason Campbell the starting QB for Week 11 against Tampa Bay and benched Mark Brunell. This will be his first career start. The Redskins traded three draft picks so they could move up and select Campbell in the first round in 2005, and he has been the inactive No. 3 QB for every game since.
Analysis: With RB Clinton Portis (broken hand) expected to miss about a month, it appears the Redskins are looking ahead to the future with Campbell. He might be worth adding in case he does well or in keeper leagues, but don't plan on using him for Week 11 against the Bucs.
News: Notable Redskins inactive for Week 9 against the Cowboys include: WR David Patten, QB Jason Campbell, DB Mike Rumph, DB Reed Doughty, DL Anthony Montgomery and DL Ryan Boschetti.
Analysis: Keep these players reserved for Fantasy purposes in Week 9.
News: Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell stayed up to watch the whole game Sunday night when Tony Romo won as a first-time starter for the Cowboys. He's patiently waiting for his turn. The Redskins traded three draft picks so they could move up and select Campbell in the first round in 2005. He has been the inactive No. 3 quarterback for every game since. No one would question his absence of playing time if Washington were headed toward another playoff season, but Gibbs' team is 2-5 and struggling to establish an offensive identity. "Right now you've just got to stay patient and stay confident and understand that when your number's called , that you can go in there and do some good things," Campbell said. "It's just another test in your life. You've got to understand it's all going to pay off for you one day. I've seen guys thrown in there who weren't ready, and I've seen guys have to wait."
Analysis: Campbell has been getting some rare work with the starters over the past week. Brunell has a pulled ribcage muscle, so Campbell ran the offense during last week's two practices before the bye, and on Monday he and fellow backup Todd Collins took turns. Brunell is expected to return to practice Wednesday. Campbell shouldn't be a consideration in Fantasy leagues.
News: The talk shows and chat rooms might be clamoring for QB Jason Campbell to replace QB Mark Brunell, but Washington coach Joe Gibbs doesn't plan to give the quarterback -- for whom he traded three draft picks to take in the first round in 2005 -- practice reps with the first team during their two bye week practices. "We love Jason," Gibbs said. "At some point, his time is going to come. Right now, that's not something that's a focus of mine." Asked whether the 36-year-old Brunell's arm is strong enough, Gibbs said, "Mark can throw it wherever you want to throw it." In any case, the offense ranks a deceiving fourth in the league in rushing and 13th in total yards in its first year under associate head coach Al Saunders.
Analysis: Brunell has struggled this year and is too inconsistent to count on for Fantasy owners. Keep him reserved in Week 9 against Dallas following the Redskins bye in Week 8.
News: Notable Redskins inactive for Week 7 include: QB Jason Campbell, DB Carlos Rogers, WR David Patten, DL Cornelius Griffin and LB Lemar Marshall.
Analysis: Keep these players reserved for Fantasy purposes in Week 7.
News: Notable Redskins inactives for Week 6 include QB Jason Campbell (3rd QB), CB Mike Rumph, S Curry Burns, WR David Patten, DL Joe Salave'a and DT Cornelius Griffin.
Analysis: Keep these players reserved for Fantasy purposes in Week 6.
News: Notable Redskins inactives for Week 5 include: QB Jason Campbell (emergency QB), DB Shawn Springs, DB Curry Burns, DT Ryan Boschetti, WR David Patten and DT Anthony Montgomery.
Analysis: Keep these players reserved for Fantasy purposes in Week 5.
News: T.J. Duckett, third quarterback Jason Campbell and DT Joe Salave'a (calf) were inactive for Week 4 against the Jaguars.
Analysis: Neither of the three players are worth using in Week 5 at N.Y. Giants in any Fantasy format.
News: Washington Redskins QB Mark Brunell practiced Friday for the first time this week and plans to start Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. "I feel good. I practiced today, so I expect to play on Sunday," Brunell said. "The arm improved over the course of the week." The left-handed Brunell needed three stitches to repair a nasty cut in his throwing elbow following last week's victory against the Houston Texans. He has kept the arm wrapped all week to prevent infection. "He looked very good (Friday), so I think we're all set," coach Joe Gibbs said.
Analysis: With Brunell ready to play, it looks as though Todd Collins will once again be the No. 2 QB on Sunday making Jason Campbell the team's emergency QB. If Brunell is ever not able to start, Jason Campbell and not Collins would be the Redskins signal caller. Until then, Campbell has no immediate Fantasy value. His value lies in the distant future.
News: If Redkins QB Brunell can't play Sunday vs. Jacksonville, second-year man Jason Campbell would start according to the formula Gibbs laid out on Labor Day: Collins fills in if Brunell is hurt during a game while Campbell starts if Brunell can't.
Analysis: It looks as though Brunell is on track to play Sunday and Campbell will once again be riding the pine. Remember, he is the long-term future of the Redskins, so keeper owners are the only players need to be concerned with keeping Campbell on their roster for now.
News: Notable Redskins inactives for Week 3 include: QB Jason Campbell (emergency QB), DB Reed Doughty, DB Shawn Springs, RB T.J. Duckett, DL Ryan Boschetti and DL Joe Salave'a.
Analysis: Keep these players reserved for Week 3.
News: Todd Collins suited up for Week 2 at Dallas, but he did not get into the game. Emergency quarterback Jason Campbell also did not see any action.
Analysis: Campbell might see action at some point this season, but he is not worth using in Fantasy Football leagues at this point.
News: The Washington Redskins announced QB Jason Campbell, SS Reed Doughty, OT Jim Molinaro, DL Anthony Montgomery, DB Mike Rumph, DB Shawn Springs (abdominal) and DL Renaldo Wynn (ankle) are inactive for Week 1 against Minnesota.
Analysis: Campbell might see action at some point this season, but he is not worth using in Fantasy Football leagues at this point.
News: Redskins coach Joe Gibbs announced that veteran reserve Todd Collins will be the team's No. 2 QB behind Mark Brunell so long as Brunell is healthy. If Brunell were to get hurt, however, Gibbs would elevate Jason Campbell to the starting position, keeping Collins as the No. 2 option.
Analysis: So in essence, Campbell is the No. 2 QB for the Redskins since he'd play more if Brunell ever got hurt. Campbell has some impressive size and abilities, but how he'd play in a game situation is definitely up in the air. He should only be owned in keeper formats for now.
News: WR Eric Parker, RB Brian Westbrook, QB Drew Bledsoe, RB Laurence Maroney, WR Torry Holt, WR Vincent Jackson, TE Itula Mili, RB Justin Green, WR Tab Perry, DT Bertrand Berry, TE Gregg Guenther, WR Isaac Bruce, WR Joe Horn, WR Bernard Berrian, QB Philip Rivers, QB Jason Campbell and WR Roy Williams do not appear on Wednesday's official NFL injury report.
Analysis: These players had ended the preseason with injuries but look fine to use in Week 1, if you're counting on them. Maroney is the biggest surprise because of the reports of his knee injury. The promising rookie will be backing up Cory Dillon to start the season.
News: Redskins coach Joe Gibbs said RB Clinton Portis (shoulder) and CB Shawn Springs (abdomen) are the only players whose availability is in serious doubt for the opener. "Most of the other guys are ready to roll," Gibbs said. Ladell Betts and T.J. Duckett figure to split carries in Week 1. QB Jason Campbell (hamstring) and WR Jimmy Farris (hamstring) both left the team's preseason finale with injuries.
Analysis: Campbell, owned in just 1 percent of CBS SportsLine leagues as Mark Brunell's backup, is fine for Week 1 it appears. It won't matter, though, because he likely won't play anyway.
News: Redskins QB Jason Campbell and WR Jimmy Farris both left the team's preseason finale with hamstring injuries.
Analysis: Campbell is the heir-apparent to Mark Brunell in Washington, but neither QB looked good in the preseason. Don't use a roster spot on Campbell except in way deep keeper leagues.
News: Starting quarterback Mark Brunell is expected to play Saturday after aggravating a groin injury and missing practice Thursday. Jason Campbell and Todd Collins are competing for the No. 2 job. "The intensity's good" during practices since the loss to the Jets, Brunell said. "There's no lack of effort. That's one of the things that was talked about in the last preseason game, was the effort level. ... We're working hard, but that needs to show up when we play the Patriots."
Analysis: Neither Brunell backup is worth drafting in most Fantasy Football leagues. If Brunell goes down for you, you're better off finding another QB elsewhere.
News: Redskins.com reports that Jason Campbell had a tough day in practice on Wednesday, fumbling a snap in a drill and getting bombarded with pressure in 11-on-11 drills, leading to multiple incompletions and an interception. Campbell is learning his sixth new offense in six years (dating back to his days at Auburn).
Analysis: Campbell is battling Todd Collins for the backup job to Mark Brunell but is the heir apparent to the QB throne in Washington. He shouldn't be drafted in seasonal Fantasy leagues, but is worth a late-round pick in deep, long-term keeper leagues since he may be under center by 2007.
News: According to reports, Mark Brunell is the unquestioned No. 1 quarterback in Washington. Todd Collins is No. 2, while Jason Campbell is third on the depth chart.
Analysis: Some believe that if Brunell is injured, Campbell, not Collins would start for the 'Skins. He's the future of the franchise, so Campbell's value is limited to keeper drafts.
News: The Washington Post reports Jason Campbell will have a chance to compete with Todd Collins for the second spot on the Redskins depth chart.
Analysis: Campbell is considered the team's quarterback of the future, but he'd need an impressive preseason and a long-term ailment to Mark Brunell to have value in seasonal drafts.
News: Jason Campbell didn't record an offensive statistic this season as the No. 3 quarterback in Washington.
Analysis: Campbell is projected as the future No. 1 quarterback for the Redskins, but at this point he will have no value in 2006 drafts.
News: Jason Campbell was inactive in Week 14 and served as the emergency QB.
Analysis: Campbell is unlikely to make a splash in 2005, but the rookie QB could be a factor to consider come 2006.
News: Jason Campbell was inactive in Week 13 and served as the emergency QB.
Analysis: Campbell is unlikely to make a splash in 2005, but the rookie QB could be a factor to consider come 2006.
News: Rookie QB Jason Campbell threw for a game-high 132 yards on 10 of 18 passing with a fumble and an INT in the Redskins' loss at Carolina in the preseason.
Analysis: Campbell has value in keeper leagues, worthy of a middle- to late-round pick.
News: First-round pick Jason Campbell has agreed to a deal with the Redskins. He is expected to back up Patrick Ramsey and Mark Brunell this season.
Analysis: Campbell won't have a Fantasy impact this year, but may have some next year or the year after. He has some value in keeper leagues, but that's all unless he finds the field in 2005.
News: The Washington Redskins selected Jason Campbell with the No. 25 overall selection in the 2005 NFL Draft.
Analysis: We don't expect Campbell to compete for a prominent role next season, so he's more of a quarterback to watch for in the future.
News: According to reports, the Washington Redskins might use the No. 25 overall selection in the draft to pick Auburn's Jason Campbell.
Analysis: There are also reports that the team wants to trade this selection, so Campbell is no lock to become a Redskin.
