"You have to get to a certain point before you can get on the practice field," McClain said. "I feel better than last week."

Rolando McClain expected to start at MLB for Dallas

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9/2/2014) The Cowboys appear to be leaning toward using twice-retired linebacker Rolando McClain as their starting middle linebacker in the absence of Sean Lee, who will miss the 2014 season with a torn ACL in his left knee.

The Cowboys are also moving Bruce Carter from weakside to strongside, and Justin Durant will take over as the starting weakside linebacker.

"I think he’s made a lot of progress," head coach Jason Garrett said of McClain, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "Whenever you’re a new player coming into a system, you need to just play in the system. You need to get reps. That’s particularly the case with a position like linebacker where there’s a lot to do in terms of communication and understanding what the whole defense is doing.

"He has a lot of those traits. Coming in, it was a matter of learning what we were asking him to do. He embraced that, and I think he’s going to be a part of that mix at linebacker. He’s demonstrated both in practice and in preseason games that he’s worthy of some kind of an opportunity."

Justin Durant expected to replace Sean Lee

He helped fill in last year when Lee missed five games with injuries.

Cowboys concerned about hamstring injuries

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(3/4/2014) Twelve Cowboys suffered hamstring injuries of varying severity in 2013, reports ESPN.com. The list consisted of Miles Austin, Morris Claiborne, Sean Lee, Justin Durant, Dwayne Harris, Bruce Carter, Danny McCray, Barry Church, Dez Bryant, Lance Dunbar, Gavin Escobar and Terrance Williams.

Coach Jason Garrett is looking at other teams' approaches to find a solution. He might cut back the time players spend on the field early in the offseason, the report said.

“It is valuable to do the football stuff. We don’t feel like there’s a lot of football stuff right now,” Garrett told the website. “We want to be careful about how much we take away from that. But there’s a couple weeks prior to all that stuff starting. We’ve talked about tweaking the daily schedule and what we’re doing those first couple weeks as we start to lay the foundation for the offseason.”
