News:The Sports Xchange reports his hair isn't Auburn-tinged, but one could probably excuse linebacker David Harris of the New York Jets if he felt a little bit like the team's red-headed stepchild. Except he doesn't. With team management doling out big-money contract extensions to offensive left tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson and center Nick Mangold, and in discussions for another monster deal (cornerback Darrelle Revis) at some point, one has to wonder if there is enough money left over in Woody Johnson's coffers for Harris, who also has quietly requested an extension. There isn't, and, to his credit, Harris hasn't allowed it to bother him. But he isn't going to get a new contract. Not this season. He knows it, agents Brian Mackler and Jim Ivler know it, Jets' general manager Mike Tannenbaum probably knows it, too. "We've talked, and I've had a great relationship with (Tannenbaum) for 20 years ... but it's probably not going to happen (this season)," Mackler said.
Analysis: The left-out member of the Jets' so-called "Core Four," and a second-round pick in the 2007 draft, Harris has outplayed his original contract nearly as much as have Ferguson, Mangold and Revis. In three seasons, the former University of Michigan star has averaged 109.7 tackles, and the only time he didn't ring up more than 100 stops was in '08, when foot, groin and leg injuries limited him to 11 starts. So, eventually, will Harris cash in. But if there is a new collective bargaining agreement by next spring, Harris will likely get much of his money in a signing or option bonus. Until then, he'll just bite his tongue and play football. That's all Fantasy owners can ask for. Harris is a nice fit in the Jets' 3-4 scheme and remains a solid No. 1 Fantasy LB.
News: Jets defensive end Shaun Ellis and linebackers David Harris and Bart Scott are probable for the AFC championship game despite being limited at practice Friday with injuries. Ellis has a broken left hand that will be in a cast for the game against the Indianapolis Colts. He'll have surgery after the game, whether the Jets win or lose. Harris (right ankle) and Scott (left ankle) were noticeably hobbled Friday during practice. Safety Kerry Rhodes was a full participant after bumping his right knee in practice Thursday. Cornerback Donald Strickland fully participated despite breaking his right pinkie in practice earlier this week.
Analysis: Of these players, only Harris and Scott are useful for IDP play this late in the year. Consider them good options. Everyone else is no better than a low-end choice against the Colts' high-powered offense.
News: New York linebacker David Harris was active Saturday for a playoff game against the Cincinnati Bengals, allowing the Jets to have their top tackler in the lineup. Harris had been questionable with a sprained right ankle that sidelined him for two days of practice last week. He was hurt during the Jets' 37-0 win over the Bengals last Sunday.

"I think he'll go just because of the guy he is," the Jets coach said. "I know he's jogging on it, so hopefully he'll be able to practice maybe, but more importantly, play."

News: Jets linebacker David Harris missed practice Tuesday with a sprained right ankle, and his availability for the team's playoff game at Cincinnati was uncertain. Head coach Rex Ryan, who wouldn't specify whether it was a high ankle sprain, wasn't sure if Harris would practice Wednesday. "I think we'll move slowly on it," Ryan said. "You know, he's a guy that this is a familiar opponent, so we'll probably give him as much time as he needs."

Losing Harris would be a huge blow to the Jets' top-ranked defense. He leads the team in tackles and has 5 1/2 sacks and two interceptions. Ryan Fowler played in his place against the Bengals in the Week 17 laugher. "I'm definitely concerned, absolutely," coach Rex Ryan said. "I know if there's any way possible to play, he's going to play. We'll see how he is. Do I expect him to be a full go (Tuesday) for practice? No, I don't, but hopefully he'll surprise me."
Analysis: Harris had a rebound year with the Jets and finished as a low-end No. 1 Fantasy LB. He's a big part of what the Jets do and should remain at worst a No. 2 option in 2010 drafts.
News: Jets LB David Harris (10 tackles), DB Kerry Rhodes (six tackles), LB Bart Scott (six tackles) and DB Lito Sheppard (six tackles) all put up decent stats in a Week 15 loss to Atlanta.

News: The Jets had two players get two interceptions each Sunday against the Panthers in Darrelle Revis and Kerry Rhodes. Revis added two tackles also. Eric Smith and Jim Leonhard each had eight tackles, David Harris and Calvin Pace each had seven tackles and a sack and Bart Scott and Shaun Ellis each had four tackles.
Analysis: The Jets defense should play well again in Week 13 at Buffalo on Thursday night. Keep all of your regulars active against the Bills.

News: Jets LB David Harris (nine tackles), DB Jim Leonhard (seven tackles, sack), LB Bart Scott (six tackles), LB Calvin Pace (two tackles, sack) and DL Mike Devito (three tackles, fumble recovery) all had nice Fantasy performances in a Week 10 loss to the Jaguars.

Analysis: Harris is an elite LB in all Fantasy IDP formats, while Pace and Scott have solid value in deeper formats. Ellis and Leonhard are barely worth owning in deeper leagues, while Pouha, Douglas, Green and Thomas are non-factors. All of these guys should be benched in Week 9 as the Jets are on a bye.

News: LB David Harris is listed as questionable for Week 16 at Seattle with a groin injury. Harris led the team with 11 tackles in Week 15.
Analysis: Harris is a sleeper in IDP leagues as an injury earlier in the season deterred some owners. If you're in need to a lower-end lineman, take a look at Harris.
News: Jets LB David Harris led the team with 11 tackles in Week 15's win over the Bills.
Analysis: Harris has 69 tackles on the season with one sack. Harris knows how to rack up tackles and can obviously pick up a sack or two. He disappointed before missing five games due to injury, but he deserves a look again in Fantasy IDP leagues.

Harris was listed as questionable on the team's injury report, but coach Eric Mangini was optimistic all week about the second-year linebacker being able to play Sunday.
Analysis: Expectations were high for Harris this season but he wasn't very productive early on, and then he got hurt. Consider him a No. 3 Fantasy LB for his first game back against the 49ers.
News:David Harris has waited long enough. The New York Jets linebacker declared Friday he's "ready to go" and eager to get back on the field after missing five games with a groin injury. When asked if he anticipated playing Sunday at San Francisco, Harris said: "Yeah, I'm ready to go." Harris was listed as questionable on the team's injury report, but coach Eric Mangini was optimistic all week about the second-year linebacker being able to play Sunday. "He's had a couple of good days," Mangini said. "He had some good days last week. We're going to go through today and make sure that he's as ready as possible. We've waited quite a bit of time to make sure he is full-go. We won't shortchange that process. We'll go through all the days."
Analysis: Expectations were high for Harris this season but he wasn't very productive early on and then he got hurt. Consider him a No. 3 Fantasy LB for his first game back against the 49ers.
News: The Jets listed the following players as inactive for Week 13 vs. Denver: QB Brett Ratliff (third QB), K Mike Nugent, WR David Clowney, RB Marcus Mason, DB Drew Coleman, DB Eric Smith, LB David Harris and TE Bubba Franks.
Analysis: None of the players on this list should be considered viable Fantasy option. They are not in a position to contribute regular stats as they aren't in line for regular playing time. They've got some depth chart climbing to do and should be left on the waiver wire.
News: Jets LB David Harris (groin) is listed as questionable for Week 13 vs. Denver. He went through limited practice reps all week. Harris has missed the last four games.
Analysis: The fact Harris has not yet been ruled out means there is a chance he could dress Week 13. Harris has developed into a Fantasy stud since entering the league in 2007 and is a high-end LB when healthy. Continue to track his progress leading up to inactives.
News: Jets kicker Mike Nugent will miss another week of action as he's inactive against the Titans in Tennessee in Week 12. Jay Feely continues to start in his place. The rest of the Jets inactives are as follows: QB Brett Ratliff (3rd QB), WR David Clowney, RB Marcus Mason, DB Drew Coleman, DB Eric Smith, LB David Harris and TE Bubba Franks.
Analysis: Feely has become a viable Fantasy option in Nugent's absence and should be used as a stopgap option until he is replaced by Nugent, who should be kept reserved in Fantasy until further notice. The rest of the players mentioned above have no Fantasy value at this time and should remain off Fantasy rosters.
News: New York Jets linebacker David Harris and safety Eric Smith will each miss their fourth straight game after they were ruled out Friday for the team's matchup at undefeated Tennessee because of injuries.
Analysis: Harris reportedly had surgery on his groin earlier this month after he was injured in the second quarter of the Jets' 28-24 victory over Kansas City on Oct. 26. Harris, who led the team with 52 tackles at the time he was injured, hasn't practiced the last several weeks and could miss another week. Like Harris, Smith hasn't played or practiced since suffering his third head injury in a four-game span. Smith, seen Friday in the locker room, was initially injured on his helmet-to-helmet hit on Arizona's Anquan Boldin in Week 4 that earned him a one-game suspension and fine. Smith suffered another concussion three weeks later in the Jets' 16-13 overtime loss at Oakland. He left the team's game at Buffalo two weeks later after taking a glancing blow to his head. Harris is a high-end Fantasy LB when healthy and Smith is a low-end option. The Jets DST is at best a No. 2 Fantasy option Week 12.
News: The Jets will be without kicker Mike Nugent again in Week 11 at New England as he's inactive for his ninth straight game with a thigh injury. Jay Feely continues to start, and play well, in his place. New York also listed the following other players as inactive for Week 11: QB Brett Ratliff (3rd QB), WR David Clowney, RB Marcus Mason, CB Drew Coleman, S Eric Smith, LB David Harris and TE Bubba Franks.
Analysis: With the kicking duties in New York up in the air, figure Feely and Nugent both are risky starts in Week 11 and beyond until one of them is cut. The rest of the players mentioned above have no Fantasy value at this time and should remain off Fantasy rosters.
News: Jets linebacker David Harris will not play in New York's game vs. the Patriots this Thursday as part of Week 11 because of a strained groin that might sideline him one more week. Harris, who leads the Jets with 52 tackles, was injured in the second quarter of the Jets' 28-24 victory over Kansas City in Week 8. Veteran David Bowens likely will start in Harris' place.
Analysis: Harris' status is a blow to IDP owners still counting on him for relevant stats. Bowens isn't a reliable option -- look to your waiver wire for a better choice.
News: The Jets participation report Tuesday for Week 11 against the Patriots on Thursday listed LB David Harris (groin) as missing practice. Harris hasn't played in two weeks.
Analysis: Harris was expected to miss 2-3 weeks with the groin injury suffered in Week 8, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he didn't play in Week 11. His tackle numbers have been down this year compared to last anyway, so don't figure him for anything more than a No. 3 Fantasy LB for the rest of the way.
News: The Jets list the following players as being inactive and out for Week 10 against the St. Louis Rams: QB Brett Ratliff (3rd QB), WR David Clowney, DB Justin Miller, RB Marcus Mason, DB Eric Smith, LB David Harris and TE Bubba Franks.
Analysis: Most of these players are either reserves, play on special teams or aren't an integral part of the Jets' offense. They have little to no Fantasy value at this time.

News: The Jets will be without leading tackler David Harris for at least two to three weeks after having surgery on his injured groin, according to published reports. Analysis: Harris obviously has some IDP value because of all his tackles, but you should reserve him for now.
News: The Jets travel to Buffalo for a Week 9 matchup and have listed the following players as being inactive for the game: K Mike Nugent, WR David Clowney, DB Justin Miller, RB Marcus Mason, DB Eric Smith, LB David Harris, TE Bubba Franks and QB Brett Ratliff (3rd QB).
Analysis: Most of these players are either reserves, play on special teams or aren't an integral part of the Jets' offense. They have little to no Fantasy value at this time. The one exception is Nugent, however, he really hasn't viable since draft day.
News: Jets linebacker David Harris will not play in New York's game at Buffalo on Sunday because of a strained groin. Harris, who leads the Jets with 52 tackles, didn't make the trip with the team to Buffalo on Saturday. He was listed Friday as doubtful after not practicing all week. Harris, in his second NFL season, was injured in the second quarter of the Jets' 28-24 victory over Kansas City last Sunday. Veteran David Bowens likely will start in Harris' place.

As he had the previous two days, Harris rode a stationary bike during the time the media are allowed to watch. Veteran David Bowens would likely start in Harris' place if the second-year linebacker can't play.
Analysis: Harris' status is a blow to IDP owners still counting on him for relevant stats. Bowens isn't a reliable option -- look to your waiver wire for a better choice.

News: Jets rookie LB David Harris had a dominant year in 2007 from the University of Michigan. Harris burst on the scene after Jonathan Vilma went down with a season-ending knee injury. Harris was the team's leading tackler most weeks he started, and wrecked havoc while in the middle of defensive coordinator Bob Sutton's linebacking crew. Harris finished the season with a team-leading 127 tackles (90 solo), five sacks, one fumble recovery and two forced fumbles.
Analysis: Harris will enter next season as one of the top LBs in the NFL and should be considered a solid No. 2 Fantasy LB in IDP leagues.
News: Jets LB David Harris totaled eight tackles (four solo), one sack and one forced fumble during a Week 16 loss to the Titans. He now has 33 tackles and two sacks in four December games.
Analysis: Harris has only started the last eight games in place of Jonathan Vilma, but the rookie out of Michigan is already at 116 tackles. The Jets might consider trading Vilma because Harris is a beast. He is already a must-start Fantasy LB.
News: Notable Jets defenders from the team's Week 15 game at New England include: CB David Barrett and LB David Harris (eight total tackles), DE Shaun Ellis (four solo tackles, one sack) and CB Darrelle Revis (five total tackles, interception). DL David Bowens also scored on a blocked punt.

News: Jets LB David Harris was in on 24 tackles in Week 9 vs. Washington.
Analysis: This comes after he had 17 total tackles in his first start in place of the injured Jonathan Vilma. With Vilma out for the season, and Harris off to such a monstrous start, he should not be available in Fantasy IDP play for Week 11, when the Jets return from their bye.
News: David Harris was a big hit in his first NFL start. Literally. The hard-hitting rookie linebacker was all over the field after stepping into the lineup for the New York Jets Week 8 in place of an injured Jonathan Vilma (knee). He was credited with 17 tackles, including 10 solo, and a sack while undoubtedly leaving a few bruises on some Buffalo Bills players with some bone-jarring pops. "As a linebacker, you always want to be known as a hard hitter," Harris said Thursday. "I just try to go out there and play the game. If people call me that, whatever. I just go out and play football."
Analysis: Harris started in the 13-3 loss after Vilma was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury last Saturday. While Vilma struggled to adapt to the Jets' complicated 3-4 defensive scheme, Harris appeared to be a natural. "He's doing a good job with it," coach Eric Mangini said. "I think he understands exactly what he has to do. It's a process of really understanding your fit against the offensive linemen versus the different running schemes. I like the way he's been building on the information since training camp. We saw a lot of that translate on Sunday." If you are looking for help at linebacker, don't hesitate to add Harris in IDP leagues. He futures appears bright.
News: Jets rookie LB David Harris, making his first start in place in place of injured middle linebacker Jonathan Vilma, had 17 tackles, including 10 solo, in Week 8 against the Bills. He also had a sack.
Analysis: Huge game for a huge talent. Harris, a second-round pick from Michigan, had 25 tackles in reserve duty before Sunday's start, and he stands to record double-digit tackles any given week. With Vilma out for the season, add Harris immediately in all Fantasy IDP leagues. The Jets host the Redskins in Week 9.
News: Jets linebacker Jonathan Vilma was placed on injured reserve Saturday with a knee injury, ending the one-time Pro Bowler's season after seven games. Vilma, who was hurt in New York's loss at Cincinnati last Sunday, missed practice all week and was listed as out on the team's injury report Friday. "This is a not a career-threatening injury and the doctors expect a full recovery," said Mitch Frankel, one of Vilma's representatives. The loss of one of their defensive captains is the latest disappointing development in what has become a season full of them as the Jets have struggled to a 1-6 start. "I am disappointed that my season ended prematurely," Vilma said in a statement. "I was looking forward to playing the rest of the season and helping the team get back on track. I now look forward to supporting my teammates for the rest of the 2007 season and returning to the field with them in 2008."
Analysis: Rookie David Harris, the Jets' second-round draft pick out of Michigan, is expected to take Vilma's spot in the starting lineup Sunday against Buffalo. The hard-hitting Harris has 24 tackles in limited time this season. "Vilma's a great player," Harris said earlier in the week. "Anytime that you lose a player like that, it's very hard to fill his shoes. He's a great team leader. He's very well respected and he has run the defense for four years now. I'll try to be ready when my number is called." Consider Harris a low-end Fantasy LB now that he is in the starting lineup.
News: According to The Record, Jets LB David Harris will likely replace Jonathan Vilma in Week 8 against Buffalo. For the second straight day Thursday, Vilma did not practice due to an unspecified knee injury. Whether the injury will cost the veteran his season or a few games remains to be seen. "It's been a dream of mine to start an NFL game and the opportunity has [arisen] so I have to step up my game," said Harris, who the Jets drafted after trading away a third-round pick and swapping places with Green Bay to move up 16 spots in the draft order. "Being a player you always want to be on the field more and I have to take advantage of my opportunity."
Analysis: Harris should be considered a low-end Fantasy LB in IDP leagues. Do not use him in Week 8 against the Bills.
News:The Sports Xchange reports that Jets second-round ILB David Harris is playing inside on the reserve units and doesn't seem to be a threat to the starting spot of incumbent ILB Eric Barton, who had a terrific game against Atlanta.
Analysis: We liked Harris a lot coming out of school, but if he's not going to play a lot, he's not worth much Fantasy consideration. He remains a low-end sleeper late-round pick in deeper seasonal IDP leagues and an early- to middle-round pick in dynasty rookie drafts.
News: Linebacker David Harris, the Jets' second-round pick, signed with New York on Wednesday. The 6-foot-2, 243 pounder, the 47th overall pick in last April's draft, played at Michigan. He finished his career with 196 tackles, four sacks, one interception, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery and was a semifinalist for the Butkus award given to the nation's top linebacker.
Analysis: Harris is good enough to compete for a starting job and land a role working the inside of the Jets' 3-4 defense on a weekly basis, making him a sleeper late-round pick in seasonal IDP leagues and an early- to middle-round pick in dynasty rookie drafts.
News: Aside from first-round pick CB Darrelle Revis, the Jets' 2007 draft class includes: Michigan LB David Harris, Nicholls State OT Jacob Bender and Clemson WR Chansi Stuckey.
Analysis: Harris is good enough to compete for a starting job and land a role working the inside of the Jets' 3-4 defense on a weekly basis, making him a sleeper late-round pick in seasonal IDP leagues and an early- to middle-round pick in dynasty rookie drafts. Stuckey will assist on special teams if he makes the Jets out of camp.
