Bears make roster moves

(6/3/2014) On Tuesday the Bears announced the signings of receivers Armanti Edwards and Micheal Spurlock while agreeing to an injury settlement with Domenik Hixon and waiving linebacker Tana Patrick

Edwards and Spurlock will likely compete for kick return duties with the Bears. Spurlock hasn't returned a kick for a touchdown since 2012 and has three in his eight-year career while Spurlock hasn't scored a touchdown in any way since entering the league in 2010.

Hixon tore his ACL in practice with the Bears last week and won't play football in 2014. Patrick, a former member of the Crimson Tide, was signed in May.

(3/13/2014) The Bears and receiver Domenik Hixon have agreed to a one-year deal on Thursday, the team announced. Hixon had a very quiet 2013, catching seven passes for 55 yards and a touchdown but contributes on special teams and can also work as a slot receiver. 

Panthers receivers don't do much

(12/29/2013) The Panthers receivers didn't do much Sunday at Atlanta in Week 17.

Ted Ginn scored a touchdown, but he had just two catches for 6 yards on five targets. Domenik Hixon had two catches for 16 yards on three targets. Brandon LaFell had no catches on five targets.

Steve Smith (knee) was out for this game, but he should return for the playoffs. The Panthers won the NFC South title and locked up the No. 2 seed. They next play in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. 


Domenik Hixon comes up with game-winning catch

(12/22/2013) Panthers wide receiver Domenik Hixon caught the game-winning pass Week 16.

Hixon only received three targets, and caught two passes. With 23 seconds left, he caught the game-winning 14 yard touchdown pass from Cam Newton. Hixon will take on the Falcons Week 17.


Two usually productive Panthers not so on Sunday

(11/10/2013) The Panthers received minor contributions from three skill position players Sunday in their defeat of the 49ers, but among them were two of their bigger weapons. Wideout Ted Ginn caught two passes for 19 yards while tight end Greg Olsen had his least productive game of the year with one first-half catch for 14 yards. Wide receiver Domenik Hixon added a reception for 9 yards.

All will try to contribute more next Monday night against the Patriots.


Three Carolina players contribute very little Week 3

(9/22/2013) Panthers fullback Richie Brockel, running back Armond Smith and wide receiver Domenik Hixon all had very minor contributions Week 3 vs. N.Y. Giants.

Brockel had one rush for 1 yard, Smith had three carries for zero yards and Hixon had one catch for 8 yards.

The Panthers are on a bye Week 4 and return to action Week 5 at Arizona.

The remainder of their injury report includes six palyers who are listed as probable and are expected to play through their injuries. (9/12/2013) Panthers wide receiver Domenik Hixon was puzzled he didn't get to play in the season opener against the Seahawks, despite being healthy after missing time in the preseason with a hamstring injury.

"I felt good,'' Hixon said Wednesday, per ESPN. "Yeah, I felt good. I wasn't told why (I didn't play), so I can't answer that for you. I didn't ask. All I can do is practice throughout the week, show them I am ready to play and keep on working hard.'' 

Coach Ron Rivera said Hixon was held out to make sure his hamstring was fully healed, and he expects Hixon to play about 15-20 snaps Week 2 against the Bills.

(8/29/2013) Panthers wide receiver Domenik Hixon, who had been dealing with a hamstring injury, returned to action for the team's preseason finale against the Steelers.

Hixon earned the start and played into the second quarter. He was targeted four times and finished with three catches for 44 yards before leaving the game. Hixon is competing for a roster spot after signing with the Panthers in the offseason.

Carolina will open the season at home against Seattle.

(8/28/2013) Domenik Hixon has gone from the Panthers' most likely No. 3 receiver to the roster bubble, reports ESPN.com. Hixon, who had been out with a hamstring injury, will play Thursday against the Steelers in the preseason finale.

"So this could be Hixon's coming out party -- or sendoff," the report said.

In Hixon's absence, the competition for the No. 3 spot was between Armanti Edwards and David Gettis, "with return specialist Ted Ginn Jr. figuring in the mix," according to the report.


Domenik Hixon set to make preseason debut

(8/26/2013) Panthers wide receiver Domenik Hixon (hamstring) participated in padded practice Sunday, which led coach Ron Rivera to indicate Hixon is expected to make his preseason debut Thursday against the Steelers.

"We expect to see him out there and we expect him to do some good things," Rivera said, per NFL.com. "He's a veteran. I think he's going to help the group. I'm excited to see him. He made a pretty spectacular catch (Sunday) and it just shows you what he's capable of. It fires you up because you know what he can become."

(8/23/2013) Panthers wide receiver Domenik Hixon was still unable to return to the field Thursday against the Ravens, despite making his return to practice earlier in the week. Hixon has been battling a hamstring injury for much of the preseason. 

Hixon has yet to appear in a preseason game, and has just one chance left to show his skills as he battles for a backup receiver job. The Panthers play their final preseason game against the Steelers Aug. 29.

The report says that Hixon's experience and ties to general manager Dave Gettleman could make Hixon the favorite for the job. But he'll face plenty of competition from Ted Ginn

Ginn had a great offseason and sparked hopes that he can win the No. 3 receiver job. Ginn has elite speed. But the real test will come in training camp and the preseason.
