Cardinals get roster down to 53

News: The Cardinals made 27 cuts on Friday to get down the to league-mandated 53-man roster for the start of the season. Among those cut was veteran punter Ben Graham. The cuts also included safety Jared Campbell, cornerback Fred Bennett, center Ben Claxton, quarterback Brodie Croyle, linebacker Will Davis, cornerback Marshay Green, defensive end Kenny Iwebema, tackle Cliff Louis, nose tackle Ricky Lumpkin, fullback Reagan Maui’a, defensive end Jeremy Navarre, wide receiver Aaron Nichols, cornerback Bryant Nnabuife, linebacker Cyril Obiozor, center Kris O’Dowd, guard Tom Pestock, running back William Powell, tight end Steve Skelton, linebacker Kendall Smith, linebacker Pago Togafau, cornerback Thad Turner, safety Matt Ware, wide receiver Isaiah Williams and tackle D.J. Young. Guard Floyd Womack (shoulder) and wide receiver Sean Jeffcoat (shoulder) were also placed on injured reserve.
Analysis: None of the players listed had a realistic chance of being in a situation to contribute for Fantasy owners this season. They can be left on the waiver wire in all formats.

Cardinals make roster moves

News: The Arizona Cardinals have re-signed defensive end Kenny Iwebema and running back William Powell and cornerback Thad Turner. The Cardinals released cornerback Desia Dunn and punter Derek Epperson.
Analysis: None of these players are expected to make a huge Fantasy impact. Continue to ignore them in all formats.

Iwebema lands on IR

News: The Cardinals put DE Kenny Iwebema on IR (knee) Tuesday.

Cardinals list Week 17 inactives

News: Cardinals QB Brian St. Pierre (emergency QB), RB Dan Kreider, WR Sean Morey, TE Ben Patrick, DL Kenny Iwebema, DB Antrel Rolle and DL Bertrand Berry have all been ruled inactive for Week 17 vs. Green Bay.
Analysis: After the Vikings win win against the Giants in Week 17, the Cardinals chose to keep Rolle and Berry on the sidelines since their playoff positioning was already sealed. Rolle, who was battling a thigh injury, is a decent start in Fantasy when active. He will probably be drafted as a No. 2 Fantasy DB on Draft Day 2010. Berry is far more important to his real team than Fantasy owners. The other inactives are mostly reserves and special teams and won't have much Fantasy appeal next season.

Cardinals defenders lend a wing

News: In the Cardinals' Week 15 win at the Lions, notable defenders included DL Kenny Iwebema (solo tackle, sack), LB Chike Okeafor (eight total tackles each), LB Clark Haggans (seven total tackles, half-sack), DB Adrian Wilson (five total tackles, half-sack) and CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (three solo tackles, two interceptions).
Analysis: Of these defenders, Okeafor, Wilson and Rodgers-Cromartie are worth starting in Week 16 vs. the Rams.

Iwebema provides feel-good moment

News: Cardinals DE Kenny Iwebema produced a feel-good moment during a Week 6 win against the Seahawks with his sack of Matt Hasselbeck. Iwebema had a benign tumor removed from his chest last spring and has been inactive the past three weeks with an ankle injury.
Analysis: It's always good to witness a comeback story like Iwebema. Hopefully, this sack will give him the momentum to keep moving forward. However, until his stats become more friendly, Iwebema has little Fantasy appeal.

Iwebema has tumor removed

News: A benign, baseball-size tumor has been removed from the chest of Arizona Cardinals defensive end Kenny Iwebema. Coach Ken Whisenhunt says the surgery was performed on Monday. The tumor was discovered during routine X-rays on April 30, the day before the start of minicamp. Iwebema showed no symptoms and that the condition could have been life-threatening had it gone undetected, Whisenhunt said after the team's voluntary workout on Wednesday. Iwebema, a fourth-round draft pick out of Iowa in 2008, can begin some rehabilitation work in two to three weeks but isn't expected to resume football activity for six to eight weeks. Doctors were able to use a minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure to remove the tumor through Iwebema's side. "It was very close," Whisenhunt said. "Had it (the tumor) been a little bit bigger, they would have had to crack his chest, which would have put him out for the year."
Analysis: Iwebema doesn't produce enough stats on a weekly basis to warrant use in Fantasy play, but we can imagine how relieved he must feel to have this tumor out of his body. We wish him well in his recovery from the surgery.

News: The Cardinals listed the following players as inactive for Week 13 against Seattle: Brian St. Pierre (3rd QB), DL Matt Ware, DL Travis LaBoy, OL Elliot Vallejo, OL Brandon Keith, WR Anquan Boldin, DL Kenny Iwebema and DL Gabe Watson.
Analysis: Aside from Boldin, none of the players on this list have been in a position to help Fantasy owners. They are not worthy of Fantasy ownership.

Cardinals list Week 11 inactives

News: Cardinals DL Alan Branch, WR Early Doucet, TE Jerame Tuman, TE Ben Patrick, DL Kenny Iwebema and QB Brian St. Pierre have all been ruled inactive for Week 11 at Seattle.
Analysis: Most of these players are reserves for the Cardinals and play a marginal role when active. They have little to no Fantasy value and can be kept out of active lineups in Week 11 and likely for longer.

Cardinals list Week 8 inactives

News: The Cardinals inactives for Week 8 include QB Brian St. Pierre (3rd), DB Oliver Celestin, DT Alan Branch, TE Leonard Pope, TE Ben Patrick and DE Kenny Iwebema.
Analysis: Keep all of these players reserved for Week 8 at Carolina. When healthy, they have minimal Fantasy value.

Cardinals sign Iwebema

News: The Arizona Cardinals have come to terms with fourth-round draft pick Kenny Iwebema, the team said on Monday. Iwebema, a defensive end from Iowa, was the 116th selection overall. He finished his collegiate career with 106 tackles, 13.5 sacks, 19.5 stops for loss, three forced fumbles and four blocked kicks in 43 appearances, 30 of them as a starter.
Analysis: Iwebema will compete for a spot in the defensive line rotation. He has minimal Fantasy value at this time and should not be drafted in most IDP leagues.

Cardinals add DL Campbell

News: The Cardinals drafted DL Calais Campbell from Miami in the second round of the NFL Draft. They also added DL Kenny Iwebema from Iowa in the fourth round, RB Tim Hightower from Richmond in the fifth round and DL Chris Harrington from Texas A&M in the sixth round.
Analysis: Campbell should make the biggest impact of these players. He's a big DL and should start right away. Iwebema also has a chance to help the Cardinals defensive line, but he will be backup. Hightower will likely compete on special teams, and Harrington has minimal Fantasy value if he makes the team.
