Lewis will make his first appearance since suffering a high left ankle sprain Week 2, and his first with Bortles this season.

"He's not afraid to throw me that ball, period," Lewis said. "He threw me a couple passes in practice [Monday] that were good balls. He told me 'Look, now I know I can throw the ball up there for you.'"

Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis (ankle) aims to return Week 12

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/2/2014) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis said Thursday he is targeting Week 12 against the Colts as his return date from a high left ankle sprain, according to The Florida Times-Union.

Lewis, who was placed on short-term IR after getting hurt Week 2, can start practicing in four weeks (Oct. 28) and can return to game action in six weeks (Nov. 11).

"The amount of swelling forced the two bones to spread apart pretty far and that’s how they diagnosed it at 6-8 weeks," Lewis said.

Marcedes Lewis out 6-8 weeks with high-ankle sprain

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/15/2014) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis will miss more than a month as a result of an ankle injury suffered in Sunday's 41-10 loss to the Redskins in Week 2.

Lewis scored a 63-yard touchdown in the game, but suffered a high-ankle sprain later in the game that will keep him out 6-8 weeks, the team announced Monday. The Jaguars have eight weeks until their Week 11 bye, so if he does not return for Week 10 against the Cowboys, the earliest he can be back will be Week 2 in Indianapolis.

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/14/2014) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis has been diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain Sunday, the team's official website reported after Week 2 against the Redskins.

Lewis finished the game with two receptions for 71 yards, including a 63-yard touchdown. However, this is the type of injury that has the tendency to linger, leaving his status for Week 3 against the Colts in doubt.

Marcedes Lewis scores long touchdown, suffers ankle injury

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/14/2014) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis put together a good performance in Week 2 against Washington, but had his game cut short in the second half with an ankle injury.

Lewis hauled in two of the three passes thrown his way for 72 yards, including a 63-yard touchdown that goes down as the longest play of his career. He suffered an ankle injury in the third quarter, however, and was unable to return to the game.

Lewis has eight catches for 108 yards through two games, but his status moving forward is not yet known.

(9/14/2014) Jaguars wide receiver Marqise Lee (hamstring) and tight end Marcedes Lewis (knee) are active for Week 2 in Washington Sunday, after being listed on the injury report as probable.

Trio of offensive players scratched by Jaguars for Sunday

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(9/12/2014) Tight end Clay Harbor (calf), running back Storm Johnson (ankle) and tackle Austin Pasztor (hand) have been ruled out by the Jaguars for the Sunday game in Washington. Cornerback Alan Ball (abdominal) is questionable after sustaining an injury Friday, but he told the team website he expects to play against the Redskins.

Among those injured who are also likely to play are tight end Marcedes Lewis (knee), cornerback Dwayne Gratz (ankle), running back Toby Gerhart (ankle), wide receiver Marqise Lee (hamstring) and defensive lineman Abry Jones (abdominal).

Gus Bradley provides updates on injured players

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9/8/2014) Jaguars coach Gus Bradley updated the status on a few of his team's injured players when talking with reporters Monday. The Jaguars play the Redskins in Week 2.

He said running back Toby Gerhart has an ankle sprain and will be limited early in the practice week.

Bradley said tight end Marcedes Lewis could be limited Wednesday due to a knee injury, but he should play Sunday. Linebacker Paul Posluszny (knee) should practice Wednesday as well.

Bradley added safety Johnathan Cyprien is going through the concussion protocol, and wide receiver Cecil Shorts -- who was inactive Week 1 due to a hamstring injury -- will run Tuesday. The team will determine Shorts' status later in the week.

Marcedes Lewis corrals 6 of 9 targets

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9/7/2014) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis caught 6 of 9 passes thrown his way but had just 35 yards. Perhaps his most relevant target came on a fourth-and-short play in the second half and he bobbled and dropped it.

The Jaguars will play at the Redskins in Week 2.

Marcedes Lewis makes his impact in short passing game

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/14/2014) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis made some big plays and led all starters in receiving yards Thursday against the Bears in preseason action.

Often utilized in the short passing game, Lewis caught a 20-yard pass from Chad Henne on the opening drive. He followed that up with catches for 12 and 14 yards on the second drive. He caught all three of his targeted passes for 46 yards through three series of work with the first-team offense.

Marcedes Lewis 'in best shape of his life'

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/25/2014) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis is making a good impression so far, reports the Associated Press.

The report says Lewis "absolutely killed his conditioning test," which impressed general manager Dave Caldwell.

"He's in the best shape of his life," Caldwell said.

Marcedes Lewis expected back with Jaguars in 2014

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(2/18/2014) Even though Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis is slated to earn $6.7 million in salary this season, he is expected to return to the team, reports CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason LaCanfora.

The report says the thought around the league is the team will cut Lewis, but LaCanfora reports "I'm told he will be back."

Lewis had 25 catches for 359 yards and four touchdowns in 2013.

Marcedes Lewis likely back with Jaguars in 2014

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/5/2014) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis was looking like a candidate for release after he missed nearly six full games with a calf injury and failed to make an immediate impact upon his return. But after catching 16 passes for 242 yards and four touchdowns over the final five games, it appears Lewis will return in 2014, reports ESPN.com.

Lewis will count $8.25 million against the cap. If he stays healthy, the 29-year-old could reach 50 catches, according to the website.

Jaguars receivers effective Week 17

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12/29/2013) The Jaguars pass catchers were effective Week 17 against the Colts.

Kerry Taylor led the way for the Jaguars, catching eight passes for 75 yards. He also managed to catch a 14 yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Marcedes Lewis continued his strong second half, gaining 70 yards and three catches. Ace Sanders had six catches for 50 yards.

Mike Brown caught three passes for 43 yards. Lamaar Thomas and Danny Noble each caught one ball. Clay Harbor had 11 yards before leaving with an injury. Jordan Todman had one catch for 12 yards. He also carried the ball twice for 3 yards.

Marcedes Lewis looking at poor matchup Week 17

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12/26/2013) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis is on a hot streak, but is facing a poor matchup Week 17.

The Colts do a great job limiting tight ends, allowing them to average just 5.60 Fantasy points per game. Indianapolis has only allowed 20 passing touchdowns through 15 games this season. Only three have gone to opposing tight ends. The team also does a good job limiting yardage, holding tight ends below 50 yards this season.

Lewis has become a main target of Chad Henne. With Justin Blackmon suspended and Cecil Shorts out, Lewis has become the team's only reliable target in the passing game. He's now scored in four straight games, and will look to make it five against the Colts. Lewis was limited earlier in the year by an injury, and may have finally gotten over his issues in the past month or so. The team has specifically drawn up plays for him in the red zone over the past few games. It's a tough matchup, but if anyone is going to catch a passing touchdown for Jacksonville, it's going to be Lewis.

Marcedes Lewis finds end zone again

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/22/2013) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis showed off his physicality on a touchdown grab in the first quarter Week 16 against the Titans, leaping over defender Bernard Pollard to pull down the 4-yard pass. The touchdown was his fourth in as many games.

Lewis had a similar-looking grab in the open field earlier on the drive but didn't finish with huge numbers, catching four passes for 50 yards. His six targets were tied for second-most on the team.

Though he has yet to exceed 54 receiving yards in a game this season, his two most productive games have been his last two, both coming with top wide receiver Cecil Shorts on IR. Lewis will look to keep it going Week 17 at Indianapolis.

No issues for Marcedes Lewis

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/22/2013) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis, who was listed as probable on Friday's injury report because of a thigh issue, is active for Week 16 against the Titans.

Lewis was able to practice in full all week despite the injury. He could play a bigger role in the passing game with Cecil Shorts on IR because of a groin injury.

Defenders dominate list of probables for Jaguars

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/20/2013) The Jaguars list seven probables for their Week 16 clash against the Titans, five of whom play defense.

The offensive players among them are tight end Marcedes Lewis (thigh) and guard Austin Pasztor (shoulder).

The defenders are cornerback Alan Ball (shoulder), safeties Josh Evans (shoulder) and Johnathan Cyprien (thigh) and linebackers Paul Posluszny (groin) and Nate Stupar (neck).

Marcedes Lewis has chance for even more

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/19/2013) With wide receiver Cecil Shorts going on IR in the days leading up to the game, the Jaguars found themselves short on capable wide receivers Week 15 against Buffalo. So they turned to tight end Marcedes Lewis, who set season highs with four catches for 54 yards and equaled a season high with seven targets. He also scored a touchdown for a third straight game.

His matchup Week 16 against Tennessee should only further his cause. The Titans rank a discouraging 10th against the pass, allowing 225.9 yards per game, but tight ends are responsible for most of the damage against them. The Titans have allowed the 13th-most Fantasy points at the position.

Judging by the matchup data, the Jaguars will most likely lean on their running game in this one, but on those occasions when they have to pass, Lewis is the most logical target. He's about all they have left.

As a result, Jamey Eisenberg and Nathan Zegura both kind of like him this week, ranking him among their top 12 tight ends. You wouldn't bench a reliable option for him, of course, but if you're hurting at the position, he's worth a look.

Marcedes Lewis continues strong play

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12/15/2013) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis continued his strong play Week 15 against the Bills.

Lewis caught four passes for 54 yards, leading the club. He was a constant target of quarterback Chad Henne. Lewis' seven targets were second on the team. Lewis also managed to score on a 13 yard pass in the fourth quarter. It's the third straight game in which Lewis has scored a touchdown. He'll look to extend his streak Week 16 against the Titans.

Marcedes Lewis not a strong play Week 15

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12/13/2013) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis is not a strong play Week 15 against the Bills.

Buffalo has done a solid job defending opposing tight ends, limiting them to 6.23 Fantasy points per game. Through 13 games, the team has given up seven touchdowns to tight ends. While they are somewhat susceptible in the red zone, Buffalo locks down tight ends everywhere else. The team allows just 36.46 receiving yards per game to tight ends, the lowest figure in the league.

Lewis has come on a bit lately, scoring two touchdowns in the last two games. Lewis missed five games early in the season with a calf injury, which may be the reason for his early struggles. He's still not a big part of the passing game, with a season-high of three catches in a game, but he's been the top target at the goal line lately. Given the matchup, it's tough to trust Lewis to score for the third game in a row.
