Marcedes Lewis expected back with Jaguars in 2014

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(2/18/2014) Even though Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis is slated to earn $6.7 million in salary this season, he is expected to return to the team, reports CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason LaCanfora.

The report says the thought around the league is the team will cut Lewis, but LaCanfora reports "I'm told he will be back."

Lewis had 25 catches for 359 yards and four touchdowns in 2013.

Marcedes Lewis likely back with Jaguars in 2014

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/5/2014) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis was looking like a candidate for release after he missed nearly six full games with a calf injury and failed to make an immediate impact upon his return. But after catching 16 passes for 242 yards and four touchdowns over the final five games, it appears Lewis will return in 2014, reports ESPN.com.

Lewis will count $8.25 million against the cap. If he stays healthy, the 29-year-old could reach 50 catches, according to the website.

Jaguars receivers effective Week 17

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12/29/2013) The Jaguars pass catchers were effective Week 17 against the Colts.

Kerry Taylor led the way for the Jaguars, catching eight passes for 75 yards. He also managed to catch a 14 yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Marcedes Lewis continued his strong second half, gaining 70 yards and three catches. Ace Sanders had six catches for 50 yards.

Mike Brown caught three passes for 43 yards. Lamaar Thomas and Danny Noble each caught one ball. Clay Harbor had 11 yards before leaving with an injury. Jordan Todman had one catch for 12 yards. He also carried the ball twice for 3 yards.

Marcedes Lewis looking at poor matchup Week 17

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12/26/2013) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis is on a hot streak, but is facing a poor matchup Week 17.

The Colts do a great job limiting tight ends, allowing them to average just 5.60 Fantasy points per game. Indianapolis has only allowed 20 passing touchdowns through 15 games this season. Only three have gone to opposing tight ends. The team also does a good job limiting yardage, holding tight ends below 50 yards this season.

Lewis has become a main target of Chad Henne. With Justin Blackmon suspended and Cecil Shorts out, Lewis has become the team's only reliable target in the passing game. He's now scored in four straight games, and will look to make it five against the Colts. Lewis was limited earlier in the year by an injury, and may have finally gotten over his issues in the past month or so. The team has specifically drawn up plays for him in the red zone over the past few games. It's a tough matchup, but if anyone is going to catch a passing touchdown for Jacksonville, it's going to be Lewis.

Marcedes Lewis finds end zone again

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/22/2013) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis showed off his physicality on a touchdown grab in the first quarter Week 16 against the Titans, leaping over defender Bernard Pollard to pull down the 4-yard pass. The touchdown was his fourth in as many games.

Lewis had a similar-looking grab in the open field earlier on the drive but didn't finish with huge numbers, catching four passes for 50 yards. His six targets were tied for second-most on the team.

Though he has yet to exceed 54 receiving yards in a game this season, his two most productive games have been his last two, both coming with top wide receiver Cecil Shorts on IR. Lewis will look to keep it going Week 17 at Indianapolis.

No issues for Marcedes Lewis

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/22/2013) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis, who was listed as probable on Friday's injury report because of a thigh issue, is active for Week 16 against the Titans.

Lewis was able to practice in full all week despite the injury. He could play a bigger role in the passing game with Cecil Shorts on IR because of a groin injury.

Defenders dominate list of probables for Jaguars

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/20/2013) The Jaguars list seven probables for their Week 16 clash against the Titans, five of whom play defense.

The offensive players among them are tight end Marcedes Lewis (thigh) and guard Austin Pasztor (shoulder).

The defenders are cornerback Alan Ball (shoulder), safeties Josh Evans (shoulder) and Johnathan Cyprien (thigh) and linebackers Paul Posluszny (groin) and Nate Stupar (neck).

Marcedes Lewis has chance for even more

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/19/2013) With wide receiver Cecil Shorts going on IR in the days leading up to the game, the Jaguars found themselves short on capable wide receivers Week 15 against Buffalo. So they turned to tight end Marcedes Lewis, who set season highs with four catches for 54 yards and equaled a season high with seven targets. He also scored a touchdown for a third straight game.

His matchup Week 16 against Tennessee should only further his cause. The Titans rank a discouraging 10th against the pass, allowing 225.9 yards per game, but tight ends are responsible for most of the damage against them. The Titans have allowed the 13th-most Fantasy points at the position.

Judging by the matchup data, the Jaguars will most likely lean on their running game in this one, but on those occasions when they have to pass, Lewis is the most logical target. He's about all they have left.

As a result, Jamey Eisenberg and Nathan Zegura both kind of like him this week, ranking him among their top 12 tight ends. You wouldn't bench a reliable option for him, of course, but if you're hurting at the position, he's worth a look.

Marcedes Lewis continues strong play

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12/15/2013) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis continued his strong play Week 15 against the Bills.

Lewis caught four passes for 54 yards, leading the club. He was a constant target of quarterback Chad Henne. Lewis' seven targets were second on the team. Lewis also managed to score on a 13 yard pass in the fourth quarter. It's the third straight game in which Lewis has scored a touchdown. He'll look to extend his streak Week 16 against the Titans.

Marcedes Lewis not a strong play Week 15

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12/13/2013) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis is not a strong play Week 15 against the Bills.

Buffalo has done a solid job defending opposing tight ends, limiting them to 6.23 Fantasy points per game. Through 13 games, the team has given up seven touchdowns to tight ends. While they are somewhat susceptible in the red zone, Buffalo locks down tight ends everywhere else. The team allows just 36.46 receiving yards per game to tight ends, the lowest figure in the league.

Lewis has come on a bit lately, scoring two touchdowns in the last two games. Lewis missed five games early in the season with a calf injury, which may be the reason for his early struggles. He's still not a big part of the passing game, with a season-high of three catches in a game, but he's been the top target at the goal line lately. Given the matchup, it's tough to trust Lewis to score for the third game in a row.

Marcedes Lewis scores again Thursday

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/6/2013) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis scored for the second straight game Thursday, in a 27-20 win over the Texans in Week 14.

Lewis hauled in just two of the four passes thrown his way, but was able to score on the first one, from 1 yard out. He added a 41-yard reception later in the game, his longest since 2011, to give him a season-high 42 yards on the game.

Lewis has 14 catches for 185 yards and two scores on the season heading into Week 15 against the Bills.

Marcedes Lewis plays through knee woes

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/5/2013) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis (knee) is active for Week 14 against the Texans, after being listed on the injury report as probable.

Jaguars place 10 probables on injury report

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/4/2013) The Jaguars list 10 probables for their game Thursday night against Houston.

The offensive players among them are wideouts Cecil Shorts (groin) and Mike Brown (shoulder), tight end Marcedes Lewis (knee), tackle Austin Pasztor (shoulder) and guard Will Rackley (elbow).

The defensive players are end Andre Branch (knee), cornerback Mike Harris (hip), linebackers Nate Stupar (chest) and Geno Hayes (knee) and tackle Roy Miller (shoulder).

Jags tight ends not carrying much Fantasy worth

by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/3/2013) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis and Clay Harbor both found the end zone in Week 13. Harbor finished the game with 23 yards, while Lewis had 26.

The Jags' tight end conundrum is like the poor man's version of the Bengals or Eagles -- two tight ends siphoning worth off one another. While one exists, the other will not have Fantasy value.

If Lewis and Harbor were the only pass-catching tight end on the Jags, things might be different. But neither have much Fantasy value at this time.

Jaguars tight ends contribute two touchdowns to triumph

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/1/2013) The Jaguars can thank their tight ends for two touchdowns during their victory Sunday in Cleveland.

Marcedes Lewis caught three passes for 26 yards and tallied on an 8-yard pass from running back Maurice Jones-Drew in the second quarter. Clay Harbor snagged two for 23, but one of them was an 18-yard score in the first quarter. Both touchdowns tied the game.

Marcedes Lewis very quiet in return trip to Houston

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/24/2013) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis made the return trip to Houston Sunday after he totaled two touchdowns in a 43-37 loss at Houston last season. Sadly, Lewis got nowhere near his numbers from last year's game during a 13-6 win Week 12.

Lewis totaled just one catch for 18 yards Sunday. It was his only target in the game. Lewis has been held to one catch in three of his last five games.

The Jaguars are back in action Week 13 at Cleveland.

Marcedes Lewis has good history in games at Houston

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/19/2013) The last time Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis made the trip to Houston he had one of the best games of his career, totaling two touchdowns in a 43-37 loss in Week 11 last season. The Jaguars are headed back to Houston Week 12 and Lewis will look to repeat his 2012 performance.

In his last three games in Houston, Lewis has 11 catches for 111 yards and three touchdowns. Overall, he has 29 catches for 349 yards and three touchdowns in 13 career games against the AFC South opponent.

Tight ends have had moderate success against Houston. They are averaging 47.6 receiving yards and 7.8 Fantasy points per week. Tight ends have also totaled six touchdowns in 10 games, which includes touchdowns form Rob Housler and Mychal Rivera the last two weeks.

Lewis has been slowed by a calf injury this season. He's been healthy the last few games, but it's not like his production is worth writing home about. Lewis has some sleeper potential Week 12 given his history at Houston and tight ends having reasonable success against the Texans. But Lewis is pretty much just a desperation Fantasy start, if you need help this week.

Defensive penalty prevents Marcedes Lewis from TD

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/17/2013) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis totaled three catches for 23 yards during a 27-14 loss Week 11 vs. Arizona. His longest catch went for 9 yards and he was targeted seven times in the loss.

Lewis was targeted on a 3-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, but he got nowhere near the pass because he was held by a defender. One play later after the penalty, Maurice Jones-Drew scored a 1-yard rushing touchdown.

Lewis has totaled three catches in two straight games. The Jaguars are back in action Week 12 at Houston.

Marcedes Lewis a sleeper TE for Week 11

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/14/2013) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis, who was hobbled by a calf injury earlier this season, is coming off his best game of the season Week 10 at Tennessee, totaling three catches for 39 yards. Lewis will look to build off that performance Week 11 vs. Arizona.

Tight ends have done well against Arizona this season. They are averaging 85.4 receiving yards and 13.8 Fantasy points per week, which is the highest average in the NFL. Tight ends have totaled nine touchdowns in nine games against Arizona.

Three tight ends have had multi-touchdown games against the Cardinals. They are Jared Cook, Jimmy Graham and Vernon Davis. Clearly, teams have had success attacking the middle of the field against Arizona, which could be a strategy Jacksonville employs Week 11.

It's definitely a gamble to start Lewis because he hasn't done much this season. But if you need a bye-week replacement or looking for a sleeper option at tight end, then Lewis is a viable candidate given the favorable matchup.

Marcedes Lewis makes a little impact

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11/10/2013) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis had his best game of the season in Week 10,  as he hauled in multiple receptions for the first time all season in a 29-27 win over the Titans.

Lewis was targeted a team-high six times in the passing game, and hauled in three of them for 39 yards. He had just two catches for 37 yards entering the game.

The Jaguars face the Cardinals in Week 11.

Marcedes Lewis not a breakout candidate

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11/8/2013) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis faces a decent matchup in Week 10 against the Titans, but will likely be unable to take advantage of it. Lewis has just two catches in three games on the season, after all.

The Titans allow opposing tight ends to average 8.8 Fantasy points per game against them, the 10th-worst mark in the league. Unfortunately, Lewis' role on the team's offense is no longer big enough to consider as anything more than a desperation play for Fantasy purposes.

Jaguars receivers make some grabs

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(10/27/2013) The Jaguars had several minor-contributing receivers during the Week 8 blowout loss to the 49ers from London Sunday. Quarterback Chad Henne managed to spread the ball around.

Fullback Will Ta'ufo'ou had three grabs for 3 yards on three targets in the game. Justin Forsett added three catches for 6 yards on three targets.

Ace Sanders, Clay Harbor and Marcedes Lewis each had one catch apiece in the game. Sanders went for 11 yards, Harbor 7 and Lewis 6. Only Lewis saw more than one target. The Jaguars have a bye Week 9 and return Week 10 at Tennessee.

Marcedes Lewis fine with calf going forward

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/23/2013) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis has spoken optimistically despite catching just one pass for 31 yards in the loss Sunday to San Diego, the Florida Times-Union is reporting. Lewis said his confidence in his ailing calf is high after playing extended reps in the game. He was targeted three times after missing nearly the entire season with the injury.

Marcedes Lewis makes 31-yard catch in return

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(10/20/2013) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis, who returned to action for just his second game this season due to a calf injury, was certainly involved during the Week 7 home loss to the Chargers Sunday.

Lewis caught a 31-yard pass from quarterback Chad Henne. That said, he was targeted three times and that was his only reception. He did not score.

Jacksonville plays at home against the 49ers Week 8 and the Jaguars have still yet to score a touchdown at home this season.

Marcedes Lewis active for Jaguars

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(10/20/2013) Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis, who has been dealing with a calf injury, is active for the Week 7 game against San Diego Sunday. Lewis was considered probable entering Sunday. Lewis has only played in one game this season due to his injury. He has yet to make a catch this season.
