by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(8/20/2014) Bears quarterback Jordan Palmer will be the first signal caller off the bench to relieve starter Jay Cutler in Friday's preseason game against the Seahawks, ESPNChicago.com reports. Jimmy Clausen served as the No. 2 QB in the last preseason game.

"Jay will work certainly into the second quarter and we'll make a decision during the second quarter what we're going to do with him," Trestman said. "That will be dependent on a number of different things. And then after that we'll have Jordan, so expect Jordan to play the third quarter and Jimmy to play the fourth. We'll continue to rotate these guys around. We've got another week after this one and that's the way we'll operate this week."

Palmer and Claussen are batting to win the primary backup spot behind Cutler.

Bears profess confidence in Jordan Palmer

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(5/7/2014) With Josh McCown in Tampa Bay, Jordan Palmer likely will enter the season as the Bears' No. 2 quarterback behind Jay Cutler. Jerrod Johnson is the only other QB on the roster.

"I feel very good about [Palmer],” coach Marc Trestman told the Chicago Sun-Times. "I feel good about his preparation. His work ethic is very similar to Josh’s. He spends a lot of time here. He’s taken over the tradition now of getting these new guys ready.

"At this point, you’d have to feel good about Palmer’s experience. He doesn’t have a lot of hits on him right now. He’s very much engaged in the offense."

Palmer has thrown 15 career passes. The paper said Chicago might add a quarterback before camp, but it could be an undrafted free agent.

Bears give Jordan Palmer 'a lot of credit'

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(3/23/2014) The Bears lost backup quarterback Josh McCown to the Buccaneers, but coach Marc Trestman said he gives Jordan Palmer "a lot of credit" for how he played in the 2013 preseason.

“He literally learned the offense on his own because we didn’t have time to work daily with him." Trestman told the Chicago Tribune. "He worked. He worked overtime and he learned the offense and came in and played admirably in the preseason. He moved the football team and was very sufficient.

“He’s got a lot of experience and not a lot of wear and tear. He’s been around a long time. Obviously, we’re going to have another one in there and see how that goes over the next couple of months.”

General manager Phil Emery expects to sign a free agent to compete with Palmer for the backup job.

Bears bring back two players

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(3/10/2014) The Bears announced Sunday night that defensive tackle Nate Collins and quarterback Jordan Palmer will be back with the team in 2014, reports the Chicago Tribune. Both have signed one-year deals.

Palmer spent training camp with the Bears in 2013, was released before the start of the regular season but then rejoined the club in late-October after starting quarterback Jay Cutler tore a groin muscle. Palmer remained on the roster through season’s end but did not see action in any of the team’s final nine games.

He could be No. 2 behind Cutler this season if Josh McCown leaves as a free agent.
