News: St. Louis LB Brady Poppinga suffered a left calf strain in Week 7 against Dallas.
Analysis: So far this season Poppinga has 19 tackles to his credit. Fantasy owners in IDP leagues should not pay any attention to him however.
News: The Green Bay Press Gazette reported Wednesday that the Rams have agreed to terms with former Packers LB Brady Poppinga. Terms of the one-year deal were not disclosed. The recently-cut LB figured he would get a shot on another team despite a second reconstructive ACL surgery. Theres 31 other teams, and I dont see why another team wouldnt want a guy of my caliber and what I can bring to the table, Poppinga said at the time. Im fully healed and recovered and its not even funny in terms of where Im at physically. Im at the top of my game right now.
Analysis: Poppinga played in just six games last season before going down with the injury, though he managed 14 tackles and a sack in the process as a reserve. His role is to be determined in St. Louis, but he will again have the chance to compete for playing time. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on the veteran in camp and in the preseason, but we don't envision him breaking out. Ignore Poppinga on Draft Day in all leagues.
News: Packers LB Brady Poppinga was informed he would be cut Thursday, a cost-cutting move that saves the Packers about $2.3 million this season. Its going to be one of those deals where I think theyre going to wish they could have it back, Poppinga told the Green Bay Press Gazette.
Analysis: Poppinga ended the season on the injured reserve with a knee injury that required in-season surgery. He was just a reserve for Green Bay, and he figures to take on a similar role with a new club now that he is a free agent. Even if Poppinga lands a starting job by chance, he still may not be worth selecting in IDP formats on Draft Day. He has never amassed more than 69 tackles in a single season.
News: The Packers placed LB Brady Poppinga (knee) on injured reserve Tuesday. He was injured in Week 6 against Miami.
Analysis: This move is not shocking since the Packers announced on Monday that Poppinga would be out for the season following knee surgery. He was a backup LB for the Packers and had minimal Fantasy appeal.
News: Packers coach Mike McCarthy said on Monday that veteran LB Brady Poppinga will have season-ending surgery. Poppinga has a knee injury and will get a second opinion, but is not expected to return this season.
Analysis: Poppinga recorded 14 tackles this season with a sack but did not see nearly enough playing time to warrant serious Fantasy ownership. Continue to ignore him in all IDP formats now that he is done for the year.
News: Packers LB Brady Poppinga will have arthroscopic left knee surgery. A time frame on his possible return will be set after the surgery. He left the Packers Week 6 loss to the Dolphins with the injury and did not return.
Analysis: Poppinga was filling in for the injured Clay Matthews, and the Packers are just having an awful time at LB right now. Continue to ignore Poppinga in IDP Fantasy play until he gets healthy.
News: Packers LB Brady Poppinga left his team's Week 6 game against Miami with a knee injury. He did not return.
Analysis: Poppinga was filling in for the injured Clay Matthews, and the Packers are just having an awful time at LB right now. Continue to ignore Poppinga in IDP Fantasy play.
News: Packers LB Brady Poppinga missed Friday's practice after suffering a concussion on Thursday. Coach Mike McCarthy said Poppinga will be tested and likely will not play in Saturday night's scrimmage.
Analysis: Poppinga is currently backing up Clay Matthews at outside linebacker, with Brandon Chillar and Brad Jones competing to start on the opposite side. As a backup/situational pass rusher, Poppinga can be ignored in IDP Fantasy leagues.
News: Packers LB Brady Poppinga recorded his first sack of the season Week 15 at Pittsburgh, getting just the one tackle.
Analysis: Poppinga has just four sacks in his five-year career, so he's not worth using in Fantasy IDP leagues.
News: Green Bay cornerback Al Harris and linebacker Aaron Kampman will both have season-ending knee surgery. Coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that losing the two veterans will be a major challenge to the Packers, who have a 6-4 record and are in the middle of the NFC wild card race after Sunday's victory over San Francisco. With a Thanksgiving Day game in Detroit just three days away, McCarthy says coaches still are considering their options at each position. Harris and Kampman were both taken to the locker room after being hurt on separate plays in the second half of Week 11 vs. San Francisco. McCarthy would not confirm the specifics of either injury, but both appeared to hurt their left knees. Published reports claimed both have torn ACLs. Tramon Williams is expected to replace Harris at cornerback while Brady Poppinga or Brad Jones will take over for Kampman.
Analysis: None of these defenders are worth owning, especially Harris and Kampman since their seasons are over. The Packers play at the Lions in Week 12.
News: The Packers' list of inactives for Week 10 against the Cowboys includes WR Jake Allen, WR Biren Ealy, RB Quinn Johnson, LB Brady Poppinga and LB Aaron Kampman.
Analysis: Kampman has some low-end appeal in IDP leagues, but none of the other players listed here ever does enough statistically to matter in Fantasy.
News: Green Bay LB Brady Poppinga (quadriceps) will not play in the team's Week 10 game against the Cowboys.
Analysis: Poppinga is not a relevant Fantasy player and can be ignored in all IDP formats.
News: In a 19-16 loss at Tennessee, notable Packers defenders include: DL Mike Montgomery (10 total tackles, sack), LBs Nick Barnett, A.J. Hawk and Brady Poppinga and DB Atari Bigby (six total tackles each) and DT Ryan Pickett (six total tackles, sack). Charles Woodson added five total tackles.
Analysis: Of the above, Barnett, Hawk, Bigby and Woodson are worth owning in IDP league play. Everyone else isn't worth holding on to. The Packers play at the Vikings in Week 10.
News: Packers LB Brady Poppinga (12 tackles), DB Aaron Rouse (seven tackles) and LB Nick Barnett (seven tackles) helped out in a Week 4 loss to the Buccaneers.
Analysis: Barnett is a solid starting LB in all IDP Fantasy leagues, while Poppinga and Rouse have minimal value. Rouse does have 19 tackles in his last two games, however, so might be worth looking at in Week 5 against the Packers as a bye-week replacement.
News: The Green Bay Packers reached agreement on a contract extension for linebacker Brady Poppinga, general manager Ted Thompson said during Thursday's annual shareholders meeting at Lambeau Field.
Analysis: Poppinga, who is expected to compete with free agent signee Brandon Chillar for the starting strong side linebacker spot during training camp, had one year left on his existing deal. Poppinga is not a reliable option in IDP leagues.
News: Packers LB Nick Barnett (nine tackles), LB A.J. Hawk (nine tackles), DB Atari Bigby (eight tackles), LB Brady Poppinga (five tackles), DL Aaron Kampman (five tackles) and DL Corey Williams (four tackles, two sacks) all helped out in Green Bay's 31-17 win over the Panthers in Week 11.
Analysis: Barnett and Kampman are solid No. 1's at their respective positions in IDP leagues, while Hawk, Woodson and Bigby also have value as starters. Start them, but not Williams, Poppinga, in Week 12 when Green Bay visits Detroit on Thanksgiving afternoon.
News: A change at strong-side linebacker hasn't been ruled out. Brady Poppinga has started the first two games after supplanting veteran Ben Taylor late in the preseason. However, Poppinga, who made a hasty recovery from a torn anterior-cruciate ligament sustained last December, has been a liability in pass coverage. He was caught in a one-on-one mismatch with receiver Joe Horn on Sunday and allowed a 57-yard completion in the third quarter. "Ben's done a real nice job when he's been in there; he's done a real good job on special teams," McCarthy said. "But, we'll look at that more (Tuesday) when we get into our game-planning" for Sunday's game at Detroit.
Analysis: Poppinga is not a reliable option in IDP leagues.
News: SLB Brady Poppinga remains a starter for now, but coach Mike McCarthy hasn't ruled out Ben Taylor moving back into the lineup if the coaching staff sees fit. Poppinga struggled in pass coverage defending Bears tight end Desmond Clark, who had a career-high five catches for 77 yards.
Analysis: Poppinga supplanted Taylor, a free-agent signee in the off-season, as the starter late in training camp after he made a full recovery from a torn anterior-cruciate ligament in his left knee sustained last December. Whoever owns this starting spot would be worth using as an LB reserve in larger IDP leagues.
News: Brady Poppinga had seven solo tackles and an assist in the Packers' Week 1 loss to Chicago.
Analysis: Poppinga was very active and played enough to warrant consideration in IDP formats. He'll face the Bears in Week 2.
News: Brady Poppinga (knee) has been placed on injured reserve. He will miss the rest of the season.
Analysis: Poppinga has no value in Fantasy Football.
News: The Packers haven't settled on a temporary replacement for OLB Na'il Diggs (out until at least Week 10: knee) at the strong-side position. Undrafted rookie Roy Manning started the past game. Paris Lenon, who was the starter at the beginning of the season with Diggs out, split time with Manning in practice Wednesday. Rookie Brady Poppinga, who has a team-high nine special-teams tackles, also is getting a look at the spot.
Analysis: None of these players is worth using in Fantasy IDP leagues at this point.
