News:Brady Quinn's career will continue in Seattle, where he signed on to back up Russell Wilson in 2013.
Analysis: Quinn's got little Fantasy potential after bombing out with the Chiefs. Let's hope Wilson stays healthy.
News: According to ESPN, the Jets are expected to sign quarterback Brady Quinn when free agency starts in March. New Jets quarterbacks coach David Lee previously worked with Quinn as a tutor at a Manning passing camp during the 2011 lockout. The Jets are looking for players to compete for the starting job this summer.
Analysis: Here's all you need to know: 20 starts over six seasons, 12 touchdowns, 17 interceptions, two games with at least 250 passing yards. If you draft him people in your league will laugh at you.
News: Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn had a hard time moving the ball through the air in Week 17 against the Broncos. He completed just 7 of 16 passes for 49 yards in the 38-3 loss. Quinn also gained 4 yards on two carries in the defeat.
Analysis: The Chiefs could not find an answer at quarterback all season long and Quinn was never much of an option in Fantasy. It is unlikely he will land a starting gig somewhere in the offseason as the 28-year-old has never quite lived up to being taken 22 overall in the 2007 draft. Continue to ignore Quinn in all Fantasy formats.
News: Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn has not thrown a touchdown in three straight games and could be held out of the end zone again in Week 17 against the Broncos. Denver ranks seventh in the league in pass defense, giving up under 212 yards per contest, and has allowed an average of 16.6 Fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks.
Analysis: Quinn threw for 126 yards with an interception when he faced the Broncos earlier in the year and has not been much of an option in Fantasy this season. Denver needs to win on Sunday to secure a first-round bye in the playoffs so they will likely bring the pressure on Quinn. Leave the 28-year-old on waivers in the majority of Fantasy formats for Week 17.
News: Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn's struggles continued in Week 16 against the Colts. Quinn, who was playing through a bit of a ribs injury, failed to throw a touchdown pass for the third straight week in the 20-13 defeat. He completed 10 of his 22 attempts for 162 yards in the loss and was intercepted twice, including once by Darius Butler, who took it 32 yards for a touchdown. Vontae Davis also picked off Quinn in the end zone in the third quarter, which was the 28-year-old's second turnover of the day. Brady completed a pass to just five different receivers and averaged 7.4 yards per attempt.
Analysis: Quinn struggled once again Sunday as he failed to move the chains for most of the game and could not protect the football. The 28-year-old has now failed to find the end zone in each of his last three contests and has finished with 200 yards passing in each of those games. Quinn certainly doesn't look like a capable starting QB in this league and Fantasy owners should not consider him a viable Fantasy gunslinger heading into Week 17 against Denver.
News: As expected, Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn was ruled active and will start Week 16 against the Colts. Quinn, who suffered a ribs injury in Kansas City's loss to the Raiders last week, was able to practice without restriction this week. He will be facing a Colts defense that is allowing an average of 242 passing yards per game. Indianapolis has surrendered 23 TDs through the air while yielding an average of 19.6 Fantasy points to opposing QBs, which ranks 19th overall.
Analysis: Quinn has not been very good since taking over as the starter as he has managed to post more than 10 Fantasy points in just one of his six starts. He has thrown for fewer than 200 yards in each of last two games and has not found the end zone over that stretch as well. While the Colts have had some issues defending the pass this season, Quinn is not a recommended start in any formats this week.
News: Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel announced Wednesday starting quarterback Brady Quinn will be healthy enough to start Week 16 vs. Indianapolis. Quinn suffered an injury to his ribs Week 15 and his status at the beginning of the week was considered questionable. He will be facing a Colts defense that is allowing an average of 242 passing yards per game. Indianapolis has surrendered 23 TDs through the air while yielding an average of 19.6 Fantasy points to opposing QBs, which ranks 19th overall.
Analysis: This news has a bigger impact for the Chiefs than Fantasy owners seeing how Quinn hasn't played well since becoming Kansas City's starting quarterback. Quinn has managed more than 10 Fantasy points in just one start this season and hasn't thrown a touchdown pass in two straight starts. Keep an eye on his status moving forward to make sure he doesn't suffer any setbacks. While the Colts have had some issues defending the pass this season, Fantasy owners should look to better alternatives in Week 16.
News:The Kansas City Star reports Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel said Monday quarterback Brady Quinn suffered an injury to his ribs Week 15 and he is questionable heading into Week 16 vs. Indianapolis. Crennel was vague Monday about who would start at quarterback if Quinn was sidelined. Crennel hinted Ricky Stanzi might start for Kansas City. Theres a possibility, Crennel said of Stanzi playing Sunday. Like I said last week, theres a possibility, and I mentioned injuries as one of the reasons. Well see what Brady looks like, and then well make some decisions and go from there.
Analysis: Fantasy owners should not be severely impacted by this news. Quinn has managed more than 10 Fantasy points in just one start this season and hasn't thrown a touchdown pass in two straight starts. Even if Quinn starts Sunday, you should not start him in Fantasy.
News: Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn did not turn in one of his better performances of the season in Week 15 against the Raiders. Quinn completed 18 of his 32 pass attempts in the 15-0 defeat, but failed to lead Kansas City into the end zone. His longest completion of the day went for 31 yards on a screen-type pass and he was picked off in the beginning of the second quarter, which led to an Oakland field goal. Quinn completed a pass to six different receivers in the loss but averaged just 4.3 yards per completion.
Analysis: Quinn once again struggled to move the offense Sunday afternoon and the Chiefs have scored a combined seven points over his last two starts. To be fair, the loss of Dwayne Bowe changed everything as team's are just stacking the box daring him to throw the ball. Quinn has now failed to throw a touchdown pass in each of his last three games and now will have to face a better than expected Colts quad in Week 16. Fantasy owners should not plan on starting Quinn in any formats against Indianapolis next week.
News: Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn will be looking to get himself back on track in Week 15 against the Raiders. Quinn had a rough go of it in Kansas City's blowout loss to the Browns last week as he completed just 10 of his 21 pass attempts for 159 yards and was picked off once. However, that could be easier said than done this week as Brady will be without Dwayne Bowe, who has been ruled out with a ribs injury. Oakland enters the contest allowing an average of 259 yards through the air. The Raiders have surrendered 25 TDs through the air while yielding an average of 21.8 Fantasy points to opposing QBs, which ranks 30th overall.
Analysis: Quinn's first start against Oakland didn't go so well as he was knocked out of the game on the Chiefs' first offensive possession. The 28-year-old is trying to prove he can be counted on as a legitimate starter in the league, but has been extremely inconsistent in the early going. Quinn has failed to throw a TD pass in two of his last three games has racked up just 486 passing over that stretch. He will now be without his top wideout this week, which will make it hard for him to get the ball downfield. While the Raiders have had plenty of issues defending the pass this season, Quinn should be considered a viable start heading into Week 15.
News: After posting his best game in years, Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn fell off yet again Sunday against the Browns in Week 14. He completed just 10 of 21 passes for 159 yards, with 70 of those yards coming on back-to-back passes to Dwayne Bowe in the first half. Bowe left the game with a rib injury, and the Chiefs passing game faltered from then on. He was picked off in the game, the fifth interception he has thrown on the season. The Chiefs lost the game, 30-7.
Analysis: Quinn had a very solid performance a week ago against the Panthers, but he seemed to remember who he is against the Browns. Quinn has been a giant bust at the NFL level, and one solid performance against Carolina did not seem to change that. Even if the Chiefs stick with him down the stretch, Quinn is unlikely to put up solid numbers, even if Bowes injury does not prove serious. The Chiefs have a solid matchup in Week 15 against a Raiders defense that has struggled to defend the pass, but Quinn is not a recommended Fantasy option in any formats moving forward.
News: After throwing his first touchdowns since 2009 in the last game, Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn will take on the team that originally drafted him in Week 14 when the Chiefs head to Cleveland. Quinn earned the AFC Offensive Player of the Week award for his performance against the Panthers, and he also earned the praise of Browns head coach Pat Shurmur. I think he had an outstanding game last week, Browns Shurmur said. He led his team to victory, No. 1. He made some good throws. Hes a big, physical, strong guy. He uses his legs, so if things break down and hes got a running lane, hes willing to use his legs. He played a good game last week. In two years since leaving the Browns, Quinn has yet to face the team that invested a first-round pick in him.
Analysis: The Browns have been a roughly middle-of-the-pack defense against quarterbacks, allowing 18.2 Fantasy points per game, 17th-lowest in the league. Quinn is coming off one of the best games of his career, but Fantasy owners are well aware that Quinn has been a perpetual disappointment throughout his career. Against a better matchup, Quinn might be worth a flier in deeper Fantasy formats, but consider starting him only in desperation in Week 14 against the Browns.
News: Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn threw his first touchdown passes since the 2009 season during a 27-21 win vs. Carolina Week 13. Quinn came into the game with no touchdowns in five games (three starts) this season, but he ended his scoring drought with a 1-yard passing touchdown to Tony Moeaki right before halftime. Quinn threw his second touchdown on a 3-yard pass to Jon Baldwin in the third quarter. Quinn finished 19 of 23 for 201 yards and no interceptions. He added 12 rushing yards.
Analysis: Quinn played pretty well on an emotionally-charged afternoon for the Chiefs. This is arguably his finest performance of his career and vindicates coach Romeo Crennel's decision to stick with him over Matt Cassel. Still, we have to see Quinn string some solid performances together before jumping on the bandwagon. He is still a desperation Fantasy start heading into Week 14 at Cleveland.
News: Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn enters play Week 13 vs. Carolina without a touchdown in five games this season. Will he finally snap his scoring slump Sunday? Only twice this season has a quarterback failed to record a touchdown against the Panthers. Quarterbacks have 14 touchdowns (13 passing) in 11 games. Quarterbacks are averaging 240.1 passing yards, but just 15.8 Fantasy points per week, which is the ninth-lowest average in the NFL.
Analysis: The Chiefs' offense has been a mess this season, particularly the passing game. Coach Romeo Crennel has bounced between Quinn and Cassel, but now that Quinn is healthy again, he is leaning on him to lead the offense. Well, it hasn't been pretty and Week 13 might be another poor showing. If you have to start Quinn Week 13, then you are either in a really deep Fantasy format or your team is in a world of hurt. Quinn remains just a desperation Fantasy play.
News: Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn connected on 13 of his 25 passes for 126 yards during Kansas City's 17-9 loss to Denver in Week 12. Quinn, who earned the start over Matt Cassel, also tossed an interception as he went without a touchdown pass in his fifth game and remained scoreless on the season. His yardage output ranked second this year only to his first start when he rolled up 180 yards at Tampa Bay in Week 6.
Analysis: Quinn completed just 52 percent of his passes Sunday as the Chiefs relied more on the running game as Jamaal Charles eclipsed 100 yards for the fourth time this season. He completed passes to five different receivers, but most of his attempts either sailed over players' heads and his lone interception came on the last heave of the game. If he remains in the starting lineup for Week 13, he earns a more favorable matchup against Carolina's pass defense that ranks in the bottom half of the league. Still, he is still not a worthwhile Fantasy option.
News: Kansas City quarterback Brady Quinn certainly has a daunting task for his third start of the season when he squares off against Denver in Week 12. Quinn will face a Broncos defense that has elevated to one of the most ferocious units in the league and is holding opponents to just 219 passing yards per game, the 10th-lowest amount in the NFL. Quinn's last start came in Week 8 against Oakland when he completed just 2 of his 4 passes with an interception before departing in the first quarter with a head injury and being replaced by Matt Cassel.
Analysis: The Chiefs seemingly selected the lesser of two evils when they named Quinn the starter for Sunday's game as he came on in relief of Cassel when he was benched in Week 11 against Cincinnati. In four total games this season, Quinn has completed 60.3 percent of his passes (35 for 58) while throwing three interceptions and no touchdowns. Fantasy owners shouldn't expect a big performance from the 28-year-old as Denver is also yielding an average of just 17.4 Fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks. Leave him untouched in most formats for Week 12.
News: The Chiefs announced Wednesday quarterback Brady Quinn will start Week 12 vs. Denver, sending Matt Cassel back to the bench. "I like his leadership qualities," coach Romeo Crennel said.
Analysis: You can't be surprised by this news after Cassel was benched at halftime Week 11 vs. Cincinnati. Quinn didn't have a strong performance off the bench, but Cassel hasn't gotten the job done in 2012, so Kansas City wants to see what Quinn can do. We aren't expecting a great performance from Quinn, so he is just a desperation Fantasy start Week 12. Fantasy owners can dump Cassel back onto waivers.
News:The Kansas City Star reports Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel said he hasn't made a decision on who will start at quarterback Week 12 vs. Denver. Matt Cassel started Sunday's game against the Bengals before being replaced after halftime by Brady Quinn, who returned to action Week 11 after missing two games with a concussion.
Analysis: We have to report the news, but is really anybody outside of Kansas City eager to see who the Chiefs tab to start Week 12? Both Cassel and Quinn are poor Fantasy options. Quinn was tabbed the starter before getting hurt and Crennel said he would resume starting once healthy. It seems likely Quinn will start Week 12, but neither quarterback is worth using in Fantasy, so look to better options.
News: Chiefs backup quarterback Brady Quinn replaced starter Matt Cassel at halftime of Sunday's game against Cincinnati. Quinn finished 9 of 14 passing for 95 yards and four carries for 7 yards. "When I felt like I needed to make a change, I made the change to Quinn," coach Romeo Crennel said. "So, Quinn got into the game in the second half, and then after this I will evaluate it and I will let you know what I am going to do next week.
Analysis: Quinn will likely start in Week 12 against Denver, but keep an eye on what develops between him and Cassel. Even if Quinn does start against the Broncos he would have minimal Fantasy value in the majority of leagues.
News: Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn underwent his final concussion testing Friday, and was cleared to play against the Bengals Sunday. Though Brady has been medically cleared, he remains the teams backup for Week 11, with Matt Cassell slated to get the start. Quinn has missed the last two games with the concussion.
Analysis: Quinn being cleared does not mean much, as he will only end up seeing the field if Cassel gets hurt or is ineffective, but it is good to see him put a potentially scary injury behind him. At this point, Quinn is probably not worth stashing in most Fantasy formats.
News: Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel said Wednesday quarterback Matt Cassel will start Week 11 vs. Cincinnati. Crennel said Brady Quinn, who has missed the last two games with a concussion, hasn't been cleared by doctors to play in a game, despite what Quinn said. "(Brady is) feeling a lot better, doing a lot better," Crennel said. "He went to the doctor and the doctor told him he was doing better. The doctor also told him he was going to monitor him during the week, and if he makes it through the week without incident, that he could be cleared for the weekend. But, hes got to make it through the week before the doctor will clear him. Now, Brady does feel better, and Im good and Im glad that he is feeling better, but he hasnt been cleared to play yet. So, as a result of that, [Matt] Cassel will be the quarterback because I cant take the chance on practicing a guy and then not have him ready to play on Sunday. So, Matt is the quarterback, Quinn and [Ricky] Stanzi, theyre going to work during the week and Ill name the backup before the game on Sunday."
Analysis: Even if Quinn were set to return Week 11, he would be nothing more than a desperation Fantasy start. You would have to be in a pretty deep Fantasy league to be holding onto Quinn in Fantasy. Crennel has said he will be the starter once healthy, but that obviously is subject to change.
News: The Kansas City Star reports Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn has been cleared to play after visiting a doctor in Pittsburgh Monday. Quinn suffered a head injury in Week 8 and has been sidelined since. Matt Cassel started in Week 10 against the Steelers and threw for 154 yards with an interception in the loss.
Analysis: Quinn took over the starting duties before going down with the injury and could jump back into that role with the way Cassel has struggled. Keep an eye on his status leading up to Week 11 against the Bengals to see who will receive the nod. Quinn has never been much of an option in Fantasy and should be left for the deepest of formats if he starts against Cincinnati.
News:The Kansas City Star reports Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn (head) has not been cleared to play, so Matt Cassel will make a second consecutive start Week 10 at Pittsburgh. He has not been cleared for contact and hes been advised not to play Monday night, coach Romeo Crennel said. Were going to error on the side of caution and protect the football player.
Analysis: Even if Quinn was starting Week 10, he would not be a recommended Fantasy option since the Steelers are yielding just 14 Fantasy points per week to quarterbacks, which is seventh-lowest in the NFL. Quinn is only worth stashing in the deepest of Fantasy formats.
News:The Kansas City Star reports Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn, who sat out Week 9 with a head injury, has yet to be cleared by doctors and won't practice Monday. However, he could be cleared later in the week and might play Week 10 at Pittsburgh.
Analysis: The Chiefs don't play until Monday night Week 10, so Quinn has a little extra time to get ready. Coach Romeo Crennel said prior to him sitting out Week 9 that Quinn will be the starting quarterback when healthy. Matt Cassel didn't turn in a great performance Week 9, so Quinn getting his starting job back is a strong possibility. Even if he returns Week 10, it's not a favorable matchup, so Quinn would be just a desperation play.
News:The Kansas City Star reports Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel said Tuesday quarterback Matt Cassel will start Thursday's game at San Diego after starter Brady Quinn was ruled out because of a head injury.
Analysis: No surprise here. With the short turnaround and the NFL having strict protocols when it comes to head injuries, you had to figure Quinn was going to be sidelined. Cassel gets another shot at starting, but he is going to have to be overly impressive to take away the starting job from Quinn. Crennel has said Quinn is the team's starting quarterback when healthy. Only stash Quinn in the deepest of Fantasy formats.
News:The Kansas City Star reports Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel said Monday he is unsure who will start at quarterback Thursday against the Chargers (Week 9). Brady Quinn, who was named the starting quarterback last week, was knocked out of Sunday's game against the Raiders with a head injury. Crennel said Quinn won't be at practice Monday. If he is sidelined Thursday, then Matt Cassel is expected to get the start.
Analysis: You have to think with the short turnaround and the NFL cracking down on head injuries that Quinn is doubtful to play Thursday. Although, Crennel said after Sunday's game Quinn is still the team's starting quarterback when healthy. He said last week Quinn wasn't going to be on a short leash, so it seems Crennel is sticking by his word. But Fantasy owners don't have to deal with Quinn's poor performance. Even if he plays Week 9, Quinn would be just a desperation bye-week Fantasy replacement.
News: Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn left Week 8 against the Raiders with a head injury. Quinn took a few shots in the first quarter and seemed to be shaken up after taking a big hit from Rolando McClain. He was replaced under center by Matt Cassel and was 2 for 4 for 1 yard prior to leaving the game.
Analysis: Quinn looks to have suffered a concussion which cut his second straight start short. Fantasy owners will now have to keep an eye on his status moving forward as he will have to pass the NFL's impact tests for concussions before he is cleared to return. However, the Chiefs will be at San Diego Thursday night in Week 9, which won't give Quinn much time to recover. Even when healthy, the 27-year-old doesn't hold much Fantasy value.
News: Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn will be looking to find the end zone for the first time this season in Week 8 against the Raiders. Quinn, who was officially named the starting QB Monday, completed 22 of his 38 pass attempts for 180 yards but was picked off twice in Kansas City's blowout loss to the Buccaneers in Week 6. Oakland enters the contest allowing an average of 255 passing yards per contest. The Raiders have surrendered 11 touchdowns through the air while yielding an average of 21 Fantasy points to opposing QBs, which ranks 24th overall.
Analysis: After years of sitting on the bench, it appears Quinn will finally get another shot at being a starting QB in the NFL. The 27-year-old has not fared that well over his previous 13 career starts but he doesn't look to have too tough of a matchup this Sunday. However, there are still a ton of question marks about what exactly Quinn is capable of accomplishing under center, which makes him an extremely risky play this week. Only owners in dire straights should even consider rolling with Brady against the Raiders.
News: Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel has chosen Brady Quinn to start at quarterback over Matt Cassel Week 8 vs. Oakland. "Brady Quinn is the guy I want to go with," Crennel said, per NFL.com. "I want (Quinn) to be the starting quarterback without looking over his shoulder."
Analysis: You could blame Cassel's concussion on not allowing him to regain his starting job at this time, but let's face it -- the Chiefs weren't exactly thriving with Cassel under center and perhaps Crennel wants to give Quinn a chance to lead the offense. Quinn did have his chance in Week 6 at Tampa Bay and failed miserably, but perhaps he had a good practice week during the bye and impressed the coaching staff. The Raiders are yielding 21 Fantasy points per week to quarterbacks, but Quinn is just a desperation Fantasy start Week 8.
News:The Kansas City Star reports Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel, who sat out Week 6 at Tampa Bay because of a concussion, received medical clearance Tuesday to resume non-contact drills. The Chiefs now head into their bye Week 7 with a quarterback controversy, pitting Cassel against Brady Quinn, who replaced him Week 6. What I told them is Im rotating the quarterbacks, Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel said prior to Tuesdays practice. They will get equal reps. (Ricky) Stanzi will be one who wont get as many reps. Both will work with the first team. Weve got two days (this week) to work through this. We dont have a game to play, so we can focus on (evaluation) because theres no game plan or anything like that.
Analysis: Crennel said Tuesday he won't make a quarterback decision until next week. He is likely waiting to see how Cassel progresses and if he will be cleared for contact drills. It's not like Quinn's performance Week 6 gave the Chiefs a lot of hope. But Cassel was struggling prior to getting hurt Week 5, so it seems Crennel wants to put the pressure on him to perform to keep his job. Even though the Raiders might present a favorable matchup in Week 8, whether Cassel or Quinn starts, they will be just a desperation bye-week Fantasy replacement.
News: Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn completed 22 passes for 180 yards in Sunday's 38-10 loss to the Bucs. Quinn was intercepted twice and didn't throw an interception, while rushing twice for 11 yards.
Analysis: Considering that Tampa Bay had given up the most passing yards per game in the NFL prior to Week 6, there were at least moderate hopes for Quinn coming in. But, from the start, with Kansas City committed to running the ball against the fourth-stingiest rush defense in the league, it was tough for Quinn to get into any kind of rhythm. To his credit, his two interceptions weren't on bad throws -- one bounced off tight end Steve Maneri and another was a circus-style series of bobbles that led to Ronde Barber's touchdown in the third quarter. Quinn's final stats look bad, and he was by no means good, but he wasn't terrible on Sunday. If he gets another chance to start in Week 8 (the Chiefs are on a bye next week), we may see better results. But Quinn can be safely dropped in all leagues in pursuit of a free agent that can help your team.
News: Pity poor Matt Cassel. He trudges through a hugely disappointing start to the 2012 season and suffers a head injury before his Week 6 matchup against Tampa Bay, the team that allows more passing yards per game (345.3) than any other in the NFL. Brady Quinn was named the starter for Week 6 after Cassel was finally ruled out Thursday. And, armed with Dwayne Bowe, who ranks in the top 10 in nearly every receiving category; Jamaal Charles, who anchors the NFL's fourth-best rushing offense; and a talented-yet-underperforming supporting cast, including Jon Baldwin, Steve Breaston, and Dexter McCluster, it could be a surprisingly good week for Quinn.
Analysis: Quinn, who we last saw in a half-season of starts in 2009 with Cleveland, looked sharp in a very tiny window after taking over for Cassel in Week 5, completing two passes for 32 yards. Keep in mind, before dismissing Quinn, that his top three receivers with Cleveland were Mohamed Massaquoi, Chansi Stuckey, and Mike Furrey. Bowe, Baldwin, and McCluster -- with Charles involved in the passing game, as well -- comprise a different, better group. There's very little to base Quinn on outside of his situation; he's part of a potentially dangerous offense, throwing against the league's most miserable pass defense. This isn't an argument to support starting Quinn over the likes of Andrew Luck, but if you're stuck starting him in a deeper league, you may be in for a pleasant surprise.
News:The Kansas City Star reports Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn handled the first-team reps in practice Wednesday with starting quarterback Matt Cassel sidelined due to a head injury suffered Week 5. Coach Romeo Crennel has not named a starting quarterback for Week 6 at Tampa Bay, but it doesn't sound promising for Cassel. Hes been getting a series of tests as it relates to the concussion and hes been seeing the doctors, Crennel said. I think hes getting better but you know the league is very serious and cautious about concussions and how about how to handle them so we have to follow procedures on that as we go forward.
Analysis: Quinn looked sharp off the bench Sunday, even though if he didn't play all that much after Cassel's injury. Cassel has tailed off lately and surely the Chiefs' fan base wouldn't mind if Crennel gave Quinn a chance. He might have to start Week 6 if Cassel is out, but Quinn would be nothing more than a desperation Fantasy start.
News:The Kansas City Star reports Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel said Monday he would not rule out quarterback Matt Cassel, who suffered a head injury Week 5 vs. Baltimore, for Week 6 at Tampa Bay, but said it's highly unlikely he will play. Brady Quinn would likely get the start for Kansas City if Cassel is out.
News: Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn came off the bench Week 5 vs. Baltimore after starter Matt Cassel left in the fourth quarter with a head injury. Quinn actually threw a go-ahead 15-yard touchdown pass to Dwayne Bowe, but it was nullified because of a pass interference call on Dexter McCluster. Kansas City lost 9-6. Quinn finished 3 of 3 for 32 yards.
Analysis: Earlier in the week coach Romeo Crennel hinted at a possible quarterback change if Cassel continued to struggle. He had multiple turnovers again Sunday, but Crennel stuck with him until he got hurt. If the injury keeps Cassel out Week 6 at Tampa Bay, then Quinn will get his shot to start. But Quinn wouldn't be a recommended Fantasy option in most formats.
News: Kansas City backup quarterback Brady Quinn replaced Matt Cassel early on in the team's final preseason game against the Packers but was forced out of the game after halftime due to an apparent neck injury. Quinn finished 6 of 12 passing with 83 yards and one interception. He also broke for a big 23-yard run and finished with two carries for 29 yards before he was replaced by Ricky Stanzi to start the second half. According to coach Romeo Crennel, the injury does not appear to be serious.
Analysis: Quinn was recently named the second string quarterback, but if this injury proves to be significant, he could lose that role to Stanzi. We'll continue to monitor his status moving forward. Quinn had a 52.1 completion percentage with 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 12 games as a starter. He has low-end Fantasy value, when healthy.
News: Kansas City officially named quarterback Brady Quinn the No. 2 man behind starter Matt Cassel on Monday, reports the team's official site.
Analysis: Quinn has a 52.1 career completion percentage and 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions in a dozen starts. He could enter the spotlight with an injury to Cassel down the line, but has low-end Fantasy value for now.
News: After two years in Denver in which he didn't throw a regular-season pass, quarterback Brady Quinn has moved on, agreeing to terms with the Chiefs. He is expected to back up Matt Cassel. "I had the opportunity to work with Brady in Cleveland and I can tell you he is a true professional," coach Romeo Crennel said in a statement. "He is a veteran player who knows how to study and prepare for game days and you can count on him to always go out there and give you his best, whether that be on the practice field or on Sundays."
Analysis: With a 52.1 career completion percentage and 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions in a dozen starts, expectations are very low for Quinn. If he finds playing time in 2012 his Fantasy value will be very dependent on the matchup. We wouldn't trust him at this point.
News: After starting QB Kyle Orton threw for 135 yards and a touchdown, Brady Quinn came in and had an inconsistent performance with the second-stringers in Saturday's preseason game against Buffalo. Quinn, who assumed leapfrogged Tim Tebow for the Broncos backup QB spot for Saturday's game, completed 10 of 16 passes for 130 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the end zone just before halftime.
Analysis: Quinn had a mostly solid performance before Tebow had a sack and a big scramble in cleanup duty. Denver coach John Fox stressed the move was for Saturday's game only and has yet to name a backup QB behind Orton. "That was the challenge for them, to make sure we moved it better and scored more touchdowns," said Fox, who made his home coaching debut. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on the position battle, but Quinn is still expected to serve as the third-strong QB. Fantasy owners should not view him as a worthwhile option in any drafts for now.
News: The Denver Post reports that Broncos coach John Fox maintained that he will have a "wide-open competition" at quarterback, but admitted, for the first time publicly, that "deep down, I have an idea" who will be No. 1 when the season starts. He did say: "I prefer a gamer to a good practice player. . . . I want someone who will execute under pressure in a game." Fox, who currently is a coach without quarterbacks or other players because of the ongoing lockout, pointed out: "We do have a depth chart." The names at quarterback in order from top to bottom are: Kyle Orton, Tim Tebow and Brady Quinn. However, the cards are not glued permanently, and the names could be interchangeable. "I've not seen those three quarterbacks in one practice yet," Fox said.
Analysis: The Broncos have been all over the place with statements regarding Orton. Fox said earlier this offseason that Orton would be his starter, but executive vice president John Elway said "we are going with Tim" as far as who the organization is backing. We don't expect Quinn to be much of a factor, but with a strong training camp and if Orton and Tebow struggle, he could be in the mix. And Orton remains a trade candidate once the lockout is lifted. Continue to monitor what happens with Quinn heading into training camp. If he wins the starting job for the Broncos, which would be a surprise he would be considered a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB in the deepest of leagues.
News: The Denver Post reports that Broncos coach John Fox said Monday that he plans to have a wide-open competition for the starting QB job in 2011 between Kyle Orton, Tim Tebow and Brady Quinn when training camp starts. "I've said it before and I mean it. It'll be a competition," Fox said of the quarterbacks. "Competition is what this game's about, whether if it's an opponent or a depth chart. It's been this way as long as I can remember."

News: The Denver Post reports that Broncos QB Brady Quinn showed up this week to attend player-organized workouts. Quinn had been spending his offseason training in Florida, where he has an offseason home, but said Tuesday it was time to become re-acclimated to the altitude in Denver. He threw to Brandon Lloyd, Matt Willis and Lance Ball, among others Tuesday. Quinn then stayed after and participated in the team's one-hour, football-oriented workout. Quinn has not been working out with the idea of accepting status quo for the 2011 season, which would mean he's No. 3 at best behind Tim Tebow and Kyle Orton. "I want to be No. 1," Quinn said. "I feel they (Orton and Tebow) both had a chance last year and I didn't get an opportunity. I'd love to get an opportunity to help us win games and get this team to the playoffs and see what happens from there."
Analysis: It's good that Quinn has the idea to be a starter, but he's likely going to be No. 2 at best if the Broncos are able to trade Orton. If Orton returns then Quinn would be No. 3 again. He should not be drafted in the majority of leagues.
News: Heading into the preseason finale, Denver QBs Tim Tebow and Brady Quinn are locked in a battle for the No. 2 job behind Kyle Orton. Tebow isn't perfect by any stretch, but Quinn hasn't distinguished himself as a clear-cut option, either. Quinn said his performance shouldn't be judged on statistics but on how he's integrating into the offense. He also maintained that the backup job "isn't my focus right now."
Analysis: Quinn completed just 1 of 2 passes for 2 yards on Sunday against the Steelers. He has the lowest completion rate of all Denver QBs in the preseason and has also been sacked the most. Basically, Quinn is playing himself out of the role as Orton's backup. Quinn is looking more and more like a first-round bust and shouldn't be drafted in Fantasy.
News: Broncos QB Brady Quinn isn't too concerned following a poor performance in Sunday's preseason opener against the Bengals. "Just some decision making," he told the Denver Post when asked why he struggled. "I think I rushed a couple decisions and a couple throws here and there. I think it just takes a little time still getting acclimated to the wide receivers and things like that." Quinn finished 6 of 16 with an interception returned for a touchdown.
Analysis: Kyle Orton is the unquestioned No. 1 QB in Denver, with rookie Tim Tebow the pet project of head coach Josh McDaniels and hopeful long-term answer at the position. That leaves Quinn entrenched as a backup, who only figures to see playing time this season if Orton is injured and Tebow not deemed ready. As such, he can be ignored in all but the deepest of Fantasy leagues.
News:The Denver Post reports scouts have always questioned Broncos QB Brady Quinn's accuracy. In the early days of training camp, Quinn isn't doing a lot to erase his bad reputation. On short to intermediate throws, Quinn's passes travel with the nose of the ball tilted down. Most QBs have the front point of the football tilted slightly up as it travels in the air. The reason why is the pass can dive if the ball tilts down and be more difficult for the receivers to catch.
Analysis: Quinn really doesn't need any obstacles standing in his way since he has to battle Kyle Orton and Tim Tebow on the depth chart. Orton is considered the favorite to win the QB job as camp opened and Tebow, who was drafted in the first round, is a huge fan favorite. Quinn is still trying to rebuild his confidence and reputation after a failed experiment in Cleveland. Unless Quinn all of a sudden has a strong camp and looks to be in line to win the QB job, then let him go undrafted in most Fantasy formats.
News: The endorsement of Kyle Orton as his starting quarterback maybe wasn't as emphatic this time around. Still, Broncos coach Josh McDaniels insisted Saturday after minicamp that Orton will be his guy heading into training camp. From there, the competition is open as Brady Quinn and rookie Tim Tebow will have an opportunity to win the job. Nothing is set in stone. "We've got a guy who's going to go into camp as the starter, no question about it and he deserves it," McDaniels said. "If somebody comes in there and plays better than he does then that player will play." Asked if the competition was even close right now, McDaniels said, "It's clear, I think, that Kyle is definitely ahead. There's no question."
Analysis: Quinn will pose a threat to Orton in training camp, but we expect Orton to win the job. Unless Quinn is named the starter he shouldn't be drafted in the majority of leagues this season.
News: The Broncos had a voluntary passing camp Monday, and the order of the quarterbacks on the depth chart was Kyle Orton, Brady Quinn, Tom Brandstater and Tim Tebow. That was fine with Quinn, who's aware he's got a long road ahead to unseat Orton as the starter. "Obviously he knows the offense pretty well," Quinn said. "But this is an offense that I'm familiar with, so I felt pretty comfortable being in there as well." Quinn said he definitely wants the chance to start for the Broncos after coming to Denver in a trade from Cleveland this offseason. "That's how it is, it's no different at any other position on the team," Quinn said. "The quarterback gets a lot of focus for that reason, but that's just the nature of this business. Everyone wants to play. Everyone wants the guy in front of them's job, that's just the NFL. If you don't have that attitude, you shouldn't be playing."
Analysis: Quinn will likely continue to be the No. 2 QB in Denver behind Orton, and he should hold off Tebow for the backup job. Quinn has minimal Fantasy value in seasonal leagues, and he's only worth a late-round pick in deep keeper leagues since he could be the starter in Denver in 2011.
News:Tim Tebow doesn't know when he'll start in the NFL. He can't wait to begin repaying Josh McDaniels, though. "I want to be a great quarterback," the former Heisman Trophy winner said after the Broncos selected him with the 25th pick in the NFL draft Thursday night. Tebow pledged that "for the next few years, my mindset is going to be to repay him for what he did for me, believing in me. Just like it was when I was at Florida. My biggest joy was doing things for Coach Meyer, winning championships, being able to help him." McDaniels believes Tebow will blossom in the NFL. Tebow, he said, "has all the traits you're looking for in terms of toughness, competitiveness, he's intelligent, he's won a lot of games, he's a leader, he works hard, he's got all the intangibles you look for in a player at that position." Yet, McDaniels insisted Kyle Orton is still his starting quarterback - and chances are good that Brady Quinn is still the backup and Tom Brandstater is still No. 3.
Analysis: Quinn's role really hasn't changed for the Broncos. Orton was expected to start, and Quinn will stay at No. 2 ahead of Tebow. Quinn may get the chance to start for the Broncos in 2011, but that doesn't matter to many Fantasy owners this year. Don't plan on drafting Quinn in the majority of Fantasy leagues this season.
News: Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said in an interview with CBSSports.com at the NFL owner's meeting in Orlando, FL that Kyle Orton will remain the starting QB in Denver even though the team acquired Brady Quinn in a trade from Cleveland last week. "Kyle is definitely the starter," McDaniels said. "He's earned that."
Analysis: We never expected Quinn to come in and start for the Broncos, but he will likely push Orton in training camp. Orton is still a No. 2 Fantasy QB coming into the season, and he's worth a late-round pick. Quinn, as long as he's the backup in Denver, should not be drafted in the majority of leagues.
News: New Broncos QB Brady Quinn says his severely sprained left foot is no longer an issue. Quinn, who started nine games last year in Cleveland, finished the season on injured reserve after sustaining a severe Lisfranc sprain, a tear of the ligament that holds his first two toes in place, in his left foot. He spent two months in a walking boot. Lisfranc sprains can require surgery and threaten careers, but that's not the case with Quinn. Asked about his foot during his first news conference in Denver, he said: "The foot is good, I appreciate you asking."
Analysis: It is believed that Quinn will try to push for the starting job in Denver but that Kyle Orton has a firm grasp of it at this point. Quinn won Cleveland's starting job last season, but was benched after 2 1/2 games for Derek Anderson. He eventually got his job back when Anderson struggled but was hindered by inaccuracy. He completed only 53 percent of his passes last season for 1,339 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. Quinn will likely only play in 2010 if Orton gets hurt or struggles, but don't plan on drafting Quinn in the majority of leagues since he has minimal Fantasy value.
News:Brady Quinn will get a chance to start over in Denver. Whether he'll get to start is up in the air. The Broncos acquired the former first-round draft pick from the Browns for fullback Peyton Hillis and two late draft picks. While it has been reported that Kyle Orton will remain the Broncos' starter, Quinn isn't talking like a backup. "I'll put it this way, I think every quarterback on our roster wants to play," Quinn said. "Believe me, whether it's Tom (Brandstater), Kyle, or myself, we're all quarterbacks. We're going to be team players first, but we all want to be out there playing." McDaniels hasn't spoken publicly since the trade. Asked if McDaniels had promised him a chance to fight for the starting job, Quinn demurred. "Really, those conversations are private at this point," he said. "But I think all of us quarterbacks are going to be working our best to compete with one another and make each other better."
Analysis: Quinn won Cleveland's starting job last season, but was benched after 2 1/2 games for Derek Anderson. He eventually got his job back when Anderson struggled but was hindered by inaccuracy. He completed only 53 percent of his passes last season for 1,339 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. His rating was 67.3. The Broncos have insisted they're happy with Orton, and he's expected to remain the starter. Quinn will likely only play in 2010 if Orton gets hurt or struggles, but don't plan on drafting Quinn in the majority of leagues since he has minimal Fantasy value.
News: The Browns announced the release of veteran QB Derek Anderson, making Brady Quinn the likely starting quarterback for the 2010 season. But that's if Quinn lasts on the roster -- the team has already traded for QB Seneca Wallace and could add other quarterbacks to challenge for the starting role before training camp.
Analysis: Save for a Week 11 matchup at Detroit where he threw four touchdowns and for 304 yards, Quinn's final stats were far from impressive in 2009: 1,339 yards on 136 of 256 passing (53.1 comp. pct.; 5.23 yards/att.) with eight touchdowns, seven interceptions and three fumbles lost. And get this of his 136 completions, only a dozen were good for 20-plus yards. Quinn isn't an impressive passer and shouldn't be considered anything more than a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB heading into 2010.
News: Browns WR Josh Cribbs said in an interview with CBSSports.com that he's confident whoever the starting QB is in 2010 will be successful. Cribbs pointed to the addition of new team president Mike Holmgren as the reason either Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson will get the job done. But Cribbs shed no light on who will start in Week 1 since none of the Browns know if Quinn or Anderson is the starter, and it will be an open competition throughout the offseason. "We have Holmgren coming in," Cribbs said. "He's going to assess the situation. He said he will not have a quarterback controversy in Cleveland. He will declare a quarterback before the start of football business. I'm confident that whoever is at the helm will get the job done. Whoever it is, I know they are going to wear a captain's mark on their chest and lead this team."
Analysis: New Browns GM Tom Heckert said in the Cleveland Plain-Dealer the Browns are still undecided on Quinn and Anderson. "It's probably a little too early to say," Heckert said. "It's a difficult decision and we have to get together and we have not made any decisions on anybody. That's going to be something that's going to happen down the road. They both have talent, there's no doubt about it. They both played well at times and we'll have to wait and see what happens." We like Quinn ahead of Anderson for Fantasy owners, but whoever starts for the Browns is a No. 2 Fantasy QB at best. Cleveland is lacking weapons in the passing game, including Cribbs, and the Browns' passing attack has a lot to be desired heading into 2010.
News: New Browns President Mike Holmgren said Monday that quarterback Brady Quinn has a Lisfranc foot fracture but likely will not need surgery. Quinn hurt his left foot while scrambling in Cleveland's Dec. 20 win over Kansas City. He missed the Browns' final two games, ending an uneven season for the three-year pro. Holmgren gave the most specific update on Quinn so far, saying it was an injury to the Lisfranc ligament. "He needs some time, clearly," Holmgren said, "but I don't believe he is going to have to have surgery."
Analysis: There's no word on whether or not Quinn will be given a chance to start in 2010, but expect him to be on the Browns' roster simply because his contract makes him affordable and no team will give up anything good for him in trade. Quinn is no better than a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB heading into 2010.
News: The Browns announced on their Twitter feed Tuesday that QB Brady Quinn was placed on injured reserve with an unspecified left foot injury. He was seen with his foot in a boot and on crutches on Tuesday. Browns coach Eric Mangini gave no specifics about Quinn's injury but said his recovery could "take a little while." Mangini said the team did not yet know if surgery was necessary and that it was unclear on film how Quinn, who was tripped up as he neared the sideline, was injured. He will be replaced by Derek Anderson for the remainder of the season.
Analysis: Quinn's future is very much up in the air since the Browns are expected to go in a new direction under new team president Mike Holmgren. He is capable of running a West Coast offense, so he's a candidate to stick around in 2010, but possibly as a backup. Regardless, he's worth cutting in all leagues.
News: In the Browns' Week 15 win at the Chiefs, QB Brady Quinn completed 10 of 17 passes for 66 yards with a pair of interceptions and 39 yards rushing.
Analysis: No one was expecting much from Quinn this week, nor should they when he and the Browns host the Raiders in Week 16.
News: Cleveland QB Brady Quinn had a rough outing against the Steelers on Thursday in a Week 14 win. Quinn completed only six of his 19 passes in the game, gaining a total of 90 yards as the cold and windy conditions at Cleveland certainly had a negative impact on his performance. In his first career start against Pittsburgh, the former first-round pick completed only one of his passes in the second half. He did not throw a TD pass or an interception in the game and had one carry for 2 yards. Quinn finished with a passer rating of just 48.1.
Analysis: Since taking back the starting job in Week 10, Quinn has thrown for 100 yards or less in three of his five starts. However, he has shown plenty of promise in his two good games during that five-game span, including a three-touchdown, 271-yard performance against San Diego in Week 13. He has a chance to have another solid performance in Week 15 at Kansas City as the Chiefs have one of the five-worst pass defenses in the league. However, Quinn is not yet a dependable enough Fantasy option to be trusted outside of the deepest of formats.
News: Browns QB Brady Quinn will play vs. the Steelers this Thursday as part of Week 14 action. Though Quinn's stats have taken a turn for the better in two of his last three games and the Steelers' secondary has not played well of late, Mother Nature could play a role in the game. Heavy winds and snow are in the forecast for Cleveland this Thursday night, the likes of which would impact Quinn's throws and potentially force the Browns to alter their gameplan.
Analysis: If the wind is blowing strong, it might remind Fantasy owners of last year's season finale between the Patriots at Bills when the wind really impacted both team's gameplans. There were no good passing performances in that game but several quality rushing efforts. This game might have that same kind of wind with some snow thrown in -- not exactly ideal passing conditions. Only desperate Fantasy owners are starting Quinn at this point in the season; if you can replace him with just about anyone else, do so assuming the weather doesn't cooperate on Thursday. We'll have a full report on the weather before kickoff.
News: Two weeks after throwing four touchdown passes at Detroit, Browns QB Brady Quinn threw three touchdown passes Week 13 against the Chargers. He has eight touchdown passes all season. He finished 25 of 45 passing for 271 yards and ran twice for 8 yards. He also lost a fumble.
Analysis: Quinn was only 15 of 34 for 100 yards in between his two big performances, so he's still not the kind of player you can trust in Fantasy. But he's showing he might have some room for improvement after being mostly a bust so far. You wouldn't want to start him Week 14 against the Steelers, though.
News: Browns QB Brady Quinn completed just 15 of 34 passes for 100 yards in Week 12 at Cincinnati. He also rushed twice for 10 yards, including a 9-yard touchdown in the third quarter, and caught one pass for 18 yards.
Analysis: Quinn had 304 passing yards at Detroit in a high-scoring game against the Lions, but had been held to just 99 yards the week before against Baltimore. He is not a player worth starting for another tough matchup against the Chargers in Week 13.
News: Cleveland QB Brady Quinn threw four touchdown passes, surpassing his previous career total, and had a total of 304 passing yards on Sunday in a Week 11 loss to the Lions. Quinn led the team to a franchise-record 24 points in the first quarter, throwing three of his TD passes in the first frame. Quinn, who started the game with three TD passes in three seasons, threw a 59-yard scoring pass to rookie Mohamed Massaquoi, a 40-yarder to Chansi Stuckey and a 4-yarder to Josh Cribbs to give the Browns a 24-3 lead late in the first quarter. He did not throw an interception in the game, bouncing back from an awful Monday night game against Baltimore in Week 11.
Analysis: Quinn has been awful for the most part this season, losing his job in the third week of the year then getting it back Week 8 at Chicago. Although he was outstanding Week 11, keep in mind that this performance came against a porous Detroit defense. Two of the TD passes Quinn threw were to receivers that were completely open because of poor Lions defense. Quinn had not thrown a TD pass since Week 1 heading into Sundays game. In Week 12, the Browns take on a tough Bengals defense and should still be thought of as just a low-end Fantasy option that should be avoided. He did not play against the Bengals in Week 4.
News: Cleveland QB Brady Quinn was decent but underwhelming in the first half of the Monday night loss to Baltimore in Week 10. In the second half he was downright bad. Quinn finished the night 13 of 31 passing for 99 yards and did not have a touchdown pass with two interceptions. One of the picks was a very wayward pass that was picked off by Dawan Landry and returned for a defensive touchdown. Quinn tried to throw hail mary passes at the end of the game but could barely keep the ball in bounds.
Analysis: Did Quinn make a ton of mistakes under the Monday night lights? Check. Did he play well? Not exactly. Unfortunately for the Browns, they arent very good offensively. It really doesnt matter who is throwing the passes. There is sure to be another week of discussing who is better for the job, Quinn or Derek Anderson, and neither is a viable Fantasy option for Week 11 at Detroit. The Lions stink, too, but that still makes Quinn an injury-replacement option, at best.
News: Browns coach Eric Mangini has decided to go back to QB Brady Quinn after Derek Anderson went 1-4 as a starter and posted the NFL's lowest quarterback rating. Mangini added that he would like to stick with Quinn for the remainder of the season. Quinn is 1-5 in six career starts.
Analysis: Neither Browns quarterback is worth starting as anything more than a low-end No. 2 Fantasy passer, especially against an aggressive Ravens defense in Week 10.
News: Browns coach Eric Mangini has returned to his secretive ways with his starting quarterback. Mangini said Monday that he will wait until Wednesday to announce whether Derek Anderson or Brady Quinn will start next Monday night against the Baltimore Ravens. During Cleveland's bye week, Mangini said he would reveal his starter early this week. Mangini said he knows where he is headed on the decision but has not yet spoken to his two quarterbacks. Anderson's 36.2 rating is last in the league. He took over as Cleveland's starter in Week 3 after Quinn, who won a long competition between the two during training camp and the exhibition season, was benched after 10 quarters.
Analysis: Our hunch is that he'll turn back to Quinn as his starter, but does it really even matter? Neither Browns passer is worth owning in Fantasy play outside of leagues that start two quarterbacks each week. Cleveland plays the Ravens at home in Week 10.
News: Cleveland QB Derek Anderson had another poor showing on Sunday in the team's Week 8 game against the Bears. He went 6 for 17 passing the ball for a total of 76 yards. He was intercepted twice in the game and failed to throw a TD pass. He also carried the ball twice and scored on a TD sneak near the goal line. Anderson was replaced by Brady Quinn late in the game. Quinn went 1 for 3 for 9 yards.
Analysis: Anderson failed to top 100 yards for the fourth time in six games, which is doing absolutely nothing for Fantasy owners. Anderson could potentially not be the team's starter in Week 10 against Baltimore as the Browns are off Week 9. Whether Anderson or Quinn start is irrelevant to Fantasy owners as neither will be recommended options Week 10 against Baltimore.
News: Browns coach Eric Mangini has no plans to bench Derek Anderson, the NFL's lowest-rated quarterback, for Brady Quinn or anyone else. Anderson has completed just 23 of 70 passes in the past three games. Despite the atrocious stats, Mangini feels Anderson gives his team the best chance to win and will not switch back to Quinn, who began the season as Cleveland's starter but was replaced by Anderson after only 10 quarters. Mangini said his decision to stick with Anderson is not because the team is trying to avoid paying Quinn $11 million he would earn this season if he plays in 70 percent of the team's offensive snaps. Quinn said he is not perplexed why he's not playing and has not pushed to get another shot at starting. He does not have a problem with Mangini or offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. "There are a lot of things I can do to get better," said Quinn, who made three starts last season before he was sidelined by a finger injury. "We follow our head coach and whatever the head coach says goes."
Analysis: We suspect that money is an issue in the decision. Regardless, whomever pilots the Browns' woeful offense isn't expected to be worth using in typical Fantasy play. The Browns play at Chicago in Week 8 -- expect another weak outing from Anderson even though the Bears defense was a no-show in Week 7 at Cincinnati.
News: Cleveland was dominated at home by the Green Bay Packers during Week 7. Cleveland WR Brian Robiskie got the start but did not make a catch. Wide receiver Chansi Stuckey played in the game and went without a reception. Backup QB Brady Quinn did not get into the game despite the poor play of starter Derek Anderson.
Analysis: Robiskie did not have a catch coming into Week 6 and only has one on the season. Leave him, Stuckey and Quinn on waivers or the bench in all Fantasy leagues for Week 8 at Chicago.
News:Brady Quinn, Greg Estandia, Mike Furrey and Chansi Stuckey did not have any offensive statistics in Week 6 at Pittsburgh.
Analysis: None of the players listed here are expected to have any real Fantasy appeal this season. Leave them on waivers until further notice.
News: Browns coach Eric Mangini said he's not trying to trade quarterback Brady Quinn, who lost his starting job after just 10 quarters this season. With the Oct. 20 trade deadline approaching, there has been mounting speculation the Browns will deal Quinn, who struggled in losses to Minnesota and Denver this season and was benched for Derek Anderson. "We're not looking to move Brady Quinn," Mangini said Wednesday. "Brady is a Cleveland Brown and that's not anything we're looking to do."
Analysis: Mangini says he has a good relationship with Quinn as does offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. Quinn has reportedly put his suburban home up for sale. Until he finds playing time again, he shouldn't be on any standard Fantasy league rosters.
News: WR Brian Robiskie, WR Chansi Stuckey, FB Lawrence Vickers and backup QB Brady Quinn all failed to record stats in the team's Week 5 game against the Bills.
Analysis: None of the players on this list are expected to have any Fantasy appeal this season outside of Brady Quinn who lost the starting QB job this past week. Leave them on waivers in all leagues. The Browns play at the Steelers in Week 6.
News:Brian Robiskie, Lawrence Vickers and Brady Quinn all failed to record stats in the team's Week 4 game against the Bengals.
Analysis: None of the players on this list are expected to have any Fantasy appeal this season outside of Brady Quinn who lost the starting QB job this past week. Leave them on waivers in all leagues.
News:Derek Anderson will start at quarterback for the Browns on Sunday against Cincinnati. Coach Eric Mangini has decided to go with Anderson, a Pro Bowler in 2007, over Brady Quinn, who opened the season as Cleveland's starter but was benched at halftime last Sunday in Baltimore. Mangini believes the Browns have a better chance to move the ball with Anderson. "I'm excited about the opportunity," Anderson said. "We're all competitors, we all want to play. I'm ready to go."
Analysis: Anderson had more success moving Cleveland's offense than Quinn last week but threw three picks in the 34-3 loss to the Ravens. The bottom line is that neither passer is worth starting this week as anything more than a No. 2 Fantasy QB. Obviously if you own Quinn in seasonal leagues you can drop him for a better passer, which should almost certainly not be Anderson. Anderson is worth a flier at best in case he can return to his 2007 form.
News: Browns head coach Eric Mangini will wait at least a couple of days before naming his starting quarterback for his team's Week 4 game vs. the Bengals. Brady Quinn started the Week 3 game at Baltimore but went 6 for 8 in the first half for 34 yards and an interception and was benched for Derek Anderson. Anderson led the Browns to a field goal and finished 11 of 19 passing for 92 yards, but with two interceptions.
Analysis: The Browns' entire offense is in a tailspin as they have totaled one touchdown through three games (a pass from Brady Quinn to TE Robert Royal). Neither Quinn nor Anderson is worth starting when the Battle of Ohio takes place in Week 4.
News: Cleveland QB Brady Quinn was replaced by Derek Anderson as the team's quarterback at halftime in Sunday's Week 3 game against the Ravens. He went 6 for 8 in the first half for 34 yards and an interception. The Browns were losing 20-0 at halftime.
Analysis: Quinn was facing a tough Ravens defense on Sunday and Fantasy owners were advised against using him in all Fantasy formats. Quinn has been brutal through the first three weeks of the season and might not get the starting job back for Week 4's game against the Bengals. Even if he does start, he will not be recommended in any Fantasy format.
News: Even though Browns QB Brady Quinn has struggled in his first two starts, coach Eric Mangini plans to stick with Quinn as his starter heading into Week 3 at Baltimore. "Yes, that's exactly right," Mangini said when asked if Quinn was still starting. Remember, in the preseason, Quinn won the starting job ahead of previous starter Derek Anderson, but Mangini said Quinn is learning in the role. Quinn was 18 for 31 passing with no touchdowns and an interception in Week 2 against Denver. "I thought there were times that he made some really good decisions," Mangini said. "There were some other nice balls, as well. Then there were some plays where I felt like he could have done a better job with the read. He knows that, and it's been pointed out and those are things that we need to see a little bit better the next time was face it."
Analysis: It's a good sign that the Browns are staying with Quinn, but he should not be used in Week 3 at Baltimore. The Ravens will likely do a good job of limiting what Quinn can do. Keep him reserved in all leagues.
News: Cleveland QB Brady Quinn did not have an impressive game at Denver on Sunday. He was a combined 18 for 31 passing with no touchdowns and an interception. He also carried the ball three times for a total of 4 yards in the 27-6 loss. He also lost a fumble in the game and got sacked by Elvis Dumervil four times. Asked if he was tempted to bench Quinn, who's been sacked nine times already, in favor of Derek Anderson, Browns coach Eric Mangini said: "What I'm looking to do is play better across the board."
Analysis: Quinn has one touchdown and four turnovers in two games this season. That's not exactly impressing Fantasy owners who have been waiting for Quinn to be named the starter for a couple of years now. The one good thing that came from this game is that Quinn was able to hook up with Braylon Edwards six times for 92 yards. Edwards and Quinn did not click at all Week 1. Until Quinn starts having better games, he is not a recommended Fantasy option. Keep him on your bench Week 3 at Baltimore. Anderson might end up taking over for Quinn at some point this season, but would be considered a low-end option if he did.
News: They've been teammates and friends for three seasons. They've spent countless hours together on the practice field, lifting in the weight room, eating in the cafeteria, attending meetings and hanging out in the locker room. Brady Quinn and Braylon Edwards should be tight. On Sunday, they looked like complete strangers. Cleveland's starting quarterback and top wide receiver were out of sync throughout the Browns' 34-20 season-opening loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Quinn, making his fourth NFL start, completed just one out of six passes thrown toward Edwards, whose only reception came on a deflected ball that was nearly intercepted. Otherwise, they were disconnected all day. There were overthrows, underthrows, broken routes and miscommunication.
Analysis: Not only did it seem they weren't on the same page, they didn't appear to be following the same playbook. Two years ago, Edwards caught 16 TD passes from former starter Derek Anderson, now Quinn's backup. Edwards and Anderson had chemistry and the pair made the Pro Bowl because of it. On Wednesday, Edwards was asked if he needs to develop the same rapport with Quinn. "Is Anderson our starting quarterback?" Edward snapped. No, he was told. "In that case, it needs to be done again," he said. This is not a good sign for Quinn or Edwards owners as the two are largely dependent on each other to put up stats. Quinn should be avoided in nearly all formats Week 2 despite going up against a lackluster Broncos defense. Edwards should be thought of as a No. 3 Fantasy WR.
News: Browns QB Brady Quinn completed 21 of 35 passes for 205 yards in his first start of the season Week 1 against Minnesota. He threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to tight end Robert Royal in the fourth quarter. He threw one interception and lost a fumble.
Analysis: Quinn also had a long touchdown pass to Braylon Edwards overturned after a review. Had it gone, he would have been looking at over 250 yards and two scores and perhaps it would have been a much more impressive start against a tough Vikings defense. Quinn remains a work in progress and is an unappealing starter in Fantasy leagues, but he can be useful in formats where two QBs are required and could serve as a bye-week or injury replacement when facing favorable matchups. In Week 2, the Browns will travel to Denver to face a Broncos defense that allowed just seven points to the Bengals in Week 1.
News:Brady Quinn will start in Week 1, according to the Browns' official website. Derek Anderson will be his backup.
Analysis: Browns coach Eric Mangini had declined to publicly announce his starter against the Vikings, but most signs pointed to Quinn winning the job. Quinn has minimal Fantasy value in Week 1, however, and should be considered a low-end No. 2 option.
News:Brady Quinn took the snaps with Cleveland's first-team offense during practice on Friday, the clearest sign yet he will start Sunday's season opener against Minnesota. Quinn worked with the starting offense during the 30 minutes of practice open to the media. Mangini told his quarterbacks who will start, but did not announce it because he said he wants to keep a competitive advantage over the Vikings.
Analysis: Browns coach Eric Mangini has declined to publicly announce his starter against the Vikings, but most signs have pointed to Quinn winning the lengthy quarterback competition over Derek Anderson. Statistically, Quinn fared better in preseason, completing 21 of 31 attempts for 225 yards with one touchdown and one interception for a 86.1 rating. Anderson completed 15 of 26 attempts with no touchdowns and two interceptions for a 51.3 rating. Quinn has minimal Fantasy value in Week 1 against the Vikings and should be considered a low-end No. 2 option. Anderson is not worth owning as the backup QB.
News: The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports Brady Quinn beat out Derek Anderson for the Browns' starting QB job and will start Sunday's opener against the Vikings. Quinn, who went 1-2 as a starter last season before succumbing to a broken right index finger, was told Tuesday night by Browns coach Eric Mangini that he won the job, but continued to go along with the charade when he met with reporters on Wednesday. "He hasn't said anything to us yet," Quinn said. "He talked to us about it, but hasn't told us anything about a final decision for us." Anderson also may have given away Mangini's choice when he said "the rest of us have to go about our regular preparations."

News: The mystery about Cleveland's starting quarterback has been solved - sort of. Browns coach Eric Mangini informed Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson of his decision during a meeting on Tuesday night, and both quarterbacks did their best to keep the secret as the team prepared for Sunday's opener against the Vikings. After handling a few awkward questions, Anderson, who met with reporters first on Wednesday, may have given away Mangini's choice when he said "the rest of us have to go about our regular preparations." Quinn only confirmed he and Anderson had met with Mangini. "He talked to us about it, but he hasn't told us anything about a final decision for us," Quinn said.
Analysis: If we had to make a guess, we'd say Quinn will start for the Browns against the Vikings. But as we've said all along, it doesn't matter because neither passer will warrant use in Fantasy as anything more than a low-end No. 2 QB. We would not start either one vs. Minnesota in Week 1, and by Week 2 we'll have a better idea of who's the lead passer for the Browns.
News: Browns coach Eric Mangini has decided on his starting quarterback, and he's keeping it a secret as long as he can. Mangini declined to name his starter for Sunday's season opener against Minnesota, and before practice on Monday said he has not yet told Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson who won the job. The first-year Browns coach said he will not publicly announce his starter because as a former defensive coordinator he feels it gives his team a competitive advantage against the Vikings and future opponents. "It's more difficult to prepare for two than it is to prepare for one," he said. Quinn and Anderson have been competing for the starting position for months, a close competition that carried through training camp and four exhibition games.
News: The Cleveland Browns held Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson out of the lineup against the Chicago Bears on Thursday, adding another twist to their quarterback competition. Instead, they went with second-year pro Brett Ratliff on Thursday night. Quinn and Anderson, locked in a stiff race for the starting job, were in uniform but not expected to play. So instead of a final audition, the preseason finale was looking like a night off for them. The two have split time this preseason with near-equivalent statistics. Quinn is 21 for 31 with 225 yards in two starts while Anderson is 15 of 26 with 207 yards in one.
Analysis: Quinn played four series in last week's 23-17 win over Tennessee last week and went 11 of 15 for 128 yards against one of the NFL's top defenses. That included a 20-yard touchdown to Braylon Edwards, Cleveland's lone TD pass in the first three games. Anderson was 7 of 11 with 77 yards, but made two questionable throws and got taken down on a sack that killed a possible scoring drive. Browns coach Eric Mangini is playing this situation close to the vest, so we might not know until days before the opener against Vikings who will be under center. At best, the winner of this battle is worth using as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option and can be drafted with a late-round pick in deeper drafts assuming other good No. 2 QBs are off the board. We expect Quinn to be the safe choice to start, but with Mangini, nothing is certain.
News: Browns coach Eric Mangini said Monday that he has not yet decided whether Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson will start Cleveland's Week 1 game against Minnesota. Mangini praised both players for their performances in Saturday night's win over Tennessee, but insists he will go "through the whole process" before choosing his No. 1 QB. Quinn started and went 11 of 15 for 128 yards and hooked up with Braylon Edwards on a 20-yard scoring pass in the third quarter for the Browns' first passing touchdown of the preseason. Anderson was 7 of 11 for 77 yards. Mangini also didn't reveal his quarterback rotation in Thursday's final preseason game at Chicago.
Analysis: Through three preseason games, Quinn has completed 67.7 percent of his passes (21 of 31) for 225 yards with the one score and one interception. Anderson has completed 57.7 percent of his passes (15 of 26) for 207 yards with two interceptions and no touchdowns. Both have been sacked once. At best, the winner of this battle is worth using as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option and can be drafted with a late-round pick in deeper drafts assuming other good No. 2 QBs are off the board. We expect Quinn to be the safe choice to start, but with Mangini, nothing is certain.
News: Cleveland QB Brady Quinn certainly had the better preseason game on Saturday in a win over the Titans than did Derek Anderson. The two are fighting for the starting job and Quinn has been thought to have the edge. Quinn went 11 of 15 Saturday for 128 yards and the team's first touchdown pass of the preseason to Braylon Edwards. Anderson went 7 of 11 for 77 yards and no scores. Anderson, however, was satisfied with his performance. "Coach (Eric) Mangini likes us to play good situational football and I think I did a good job of that," he said.
Analysis: It is true that Mangini has yet to decide who the No. 1 QB in Cleveland will be. It seems like the stats dictate it should be Quinn but that decision has yet to be made. This is the tightest quarterback race in the league right now, and a winner might not be declared until the preseason ends. At best, the winner of this battle is worth using as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option and can be drafted with a late-round pick in deeper drafts assuming other good No. 2 QBs are off the board.
News:Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson could play into the second half Saturday night in the Browns' third preseason game vs. Tennessee. Which quarterback starts, however, won't have much bearing on the ultimate winner in the Browns quarterback race. Head coach Eric Mangini said he will talk to the quarterbacks on Friday and inform them of his plan for Saturday's game against Tennessee. Both quarterbacks are expected to see time with the starters. "I wouldn't read anything into that at all," Mangini said Thursday. "Somebody has to (start), but the goal is to get a balance. That hasn't changed."
Analysis: Quinn looked better than Anderson in the Browns' first preseason game while Anderson got the better of Quinn in the second.
News: The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Browns coach Eric Mangini described the quarterback competition between Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn as "very close" Monday, but said one of the two will jump out to the lead within the next two weeks. "I have experience before with this a couple of different times, and I feel that it will probably follow the same path," Mangini said. "If it doesn't, and it's close, then I'll make the decision - and that decision will be based on what I feel will give us the best chance to win."
Analysis: Mangini declined again to name his starter for Saturday night's dress-rehearsal game against the Tennessee Titans, saying, "I'll let you know at the end of the week, and we'll go from there." At best, the winner of this battle is worth using as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option and can be drafted with a late-round pick in deeper drafts assuming other good No. 2 QBs are off the board. We'll see how each QB fares in the Browns' remaining preseason games.
News: Eric Mangini says Cleveland's starting quarterback derby remains a neck-and-neck race. Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson began training camp in a dead heat and after two exhibition games, the first-year Browns coach said Monday he is no closer to choosing a starter for the Sept. 13 opener against Minnesota. Mangini said he's confident a clear winner will emerge in the next two weeks, and if one doesn't, he will decide based on information gathered over the past few months.
Analysis: Anderson started Saturday's 27-10 win over Detroit. He led the Browns to their first offensive touchdown in seven games and finished 8 of 13 for 130 yards and one interception. Quinn, who started the exhibition opener in Green Bay, played just two-plus drives against the Lions. We expect Quinn to win the job, but Anderson is stepping up late in the game. At best, the winner of this battle is worth using as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option and can be drafted with a late-round pick in deeper drafts assuming other good No. 2 QBs are off the board. We'll see how each QB fares in the Browns' remaining preseason games.
News: Browns QB Brady Quinn came in during the second quarter of Saturday's preseason win over the Lions. He was sacked on his first play before completing 3 of 5 passes for 29 yards.
Analysis: While Derek Anderson showed improvement on Saturday, Quinn still looked a little lost out there and didn't do much to help himself in this tight QB battle. At best, the winner of this fight is worth using as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option and can be drafted with a late-round pick.
News: Browns coach Eric Mangini is keeping his starting quarterback for Saturday's home exhibition opener - and beyond - a secret. Mangini declined to say Wednesday whether Derek Anderson or Brady Quinn will start at quarterback against the Lions. It would appear to be Anderson's turn after Quinn started last week's game at Green Bay. Mangini says he wants to wait until the end of the practice week before announcing his starter. Mangini says he has successfully balanced the reps between Anderson and Quinn during training camp, and doesn't feel any urgency to tab his starter for the regular season opener against Minnesota on Sept. 13. Mangini said he is most concerned about making the "right decision, not the quick decision."
Analysis: We expect Quinn to win the job, but he still has to beat out Anderson over the next month or so. He's definitely ahead as Anderson failed to complete a pass in the Browns' last preseason game. At best, the winner of this battle is worth using as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option and can be drafted with a late-round pick. We'll see how each QB fares against Detroit and keep you posted on the results.
News:Brady Quinn got the bulk of the work in the Browns' first preseason game, but coach Eric Mangini isn't declaring him the leader in Cleveland's quarterback derby. Quinn started Saturday's 17-0 loss to Green Bay and completed 7 of 11 passes for 68 yards. Derek Anderson attempted just two passes and was hit on both throws. Each quarterback threw an interception. Despite the unbalanced snaps for the two, Mangini would not commit to starting Anderson in Saturday's preseason game against the Lions. He previously indicated he likely would rotate the first two preseason starts at quarterback. "It's too early to make an assessment on both guys," Mangini said Monday. "I'm looking at it as a body of work and not really a horse race."

At best, the winner of this battle is worth using as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option and can be drafted with a late-round pick. We'll see how each QB fares in the second preseason game against Detroit and keep you posted on the results.
News: In Saturday's preseason opener at Green Bay, Cleveland started Brady Quinn at QB ahead of Derek Anderson. Coach Eric Mangini didn't tip his hand that Quinn would start until about an hour before kickoff, though Quinn knew Friday night. That mattered little to the Packers, holding Quinn to 7 of 11 for 68 yards and one interception. "I thought Brady did a nice job with the two drives he had," Mangini said. "But with any drive, the ultimate objective is to score points." Anderson didn't complete either pass he attempted over his two short series and finished 0 of 2 with an interception. "Obviously, [there's] a little bit of frustration," Anderson said. "We didn't play well as a team; the things we were trying to do, the way we've been playing in practice didn't carry over to the game. We've got a lot of work to do." Mangini said this game did not give him a clear picture of his signal callers.
Analysis: We expect Quinn to win the job, but he still has to beat out Anderson during training camp. At best, the winner of this battle is worth using as a No. 2 Fantasy option and can be drafted with a late-round pick. We'll see how each QB fares in the second preseason game against Detroit and also who starts.
News: Browns head coach Eric Mangini says his quarterbacks are competing, not cheating. The radio transmitter inside Derek Anderson's helmet wasn't working in a Sunday scrimmage, so he used hand signals to relay plays. Anderson joked after the scrimmage that Brady Quinn told the defense what all the signals meant. Reporters at the scrimmage saw the two players laughing about it. But that didn't head off several online reports suggesting Quinn was using underhanded tactics to win the starting job. Mangini could only shake his head. "Those guys are competitive and they're friends," Mangini said Wednesday. "The group is friendly and the game was competitive by nature. ... All I see them doing is supporting each other."
Analysis: The Browns have listed Anderson and Quinn as co-starters on the team's first depth chart, released Tuesday. "I'm trying to avoid all the questions," Mangini said. "If you put a name there, he's the starter. Nothing really has changed. I had to submit a depth chart." Asked if it was an accurate reflection of where the QB battle stands, Mangini said, "I didn't spend a lot of time reviewing it." We expect Quinn to win the job, but he still has to beat out Anderson during training camp. At best, the winner of this battle is worth using as a No. 2 Fantasy option and can be drafted with a late-round pick.
News: The Beacon Journal reports the Browns listed Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn as co-starters on the team's first depth chart, released Tuesday. "I'm trying to avoid all the questions," Mangini said. "If you put a name there, he's the starter. Nothing really has changed. I had to submit a depth chart." Analysis: We expect Quinn to win the job, but he still has to beat out Anderson during training camp. At best, the winner of this battle is worth using as a No. 2 Fantasy option and can be drafted with a late-round pick.
News: The battle for the starting QB spot rages, but Browns coach Eric Mangini emphasized Wednesday that he's looking at it as a long-term process and isn't swayed by which QB is having a better practice on particular days. This means the answer for Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson might not come until after preseason games start.
Analysis: This is what we expected with Quinn and Anderson. Keep an eye on what happens during training camp, but we still expect Quinn to win the job. It will make it harder for Fantasy owners to decide on drafting either guy the longer the competition lingers. At best, the winner of this battle is worth using as a No. 2 option and can be drafted with a late-round pick.
News: Cleveland QB Brady Quinn took the initial snaps from center with Cleveland's first-team offense during the morning workout, the first of Browns training camp. However, the race for the starting job between him and Derek Anderson is a long way from over, said coach Eric Mangini. During 7-on-7 drills, Anderson threw an interception when tight end Robert Royal broke off his route, then bounced back by throwing a long touchdown pass to Syndric Steptoe on the next play. Later, Anderson hooked up with rookie Brian Robiskie for another TD.
Analysis: We expect Quinn to win the job, but he still has to beat out Anderson during training camp. At best, the winner of this battle is worth using as a No. 2 option and can be drafted with a late-round pick.
News: The Cleveland Plain-Dealer reports the Browns have had six different opening-game quarterbacks in 10 years. The paper reports that Brady Quinn is the odds-on favorite to make it seven in 11 years as he enters training camp in competition with Derek Anderson. Quinn made his first NFL start in Game 9 last season. He broke an index finger in Game 10 and worsened it by playing in Game 11. The injury gave Anderson an opportunity to reclaim his starting job, but he sprained his left knee in Game 12 and was done for the rest of the year.
Analysis: We expect Quinn to win the job as the report says, but he still has to beat out Anderson during training camp. At best, the winner of this battle is worth using as a No. 2 option and can be drafted with a late-round pick.
News: ESPN reports that Browns QB Derek Anderson, sidelined with a right calf injury during the team's June minicamp, will be fine for the start of training camp on Aug. 1. Anderson is battling with Brady Quinn for the starting job in Cleveland.
Analysis: Anderson had his shot to own the Browns' top QB job last year and faltered. Quinn is younger, fresher and wasn't bad in limited action last season, so it's expected that he gets the nod assuming he doesn't botch his reps in camp and in the preseason. The reality is that whomever is the starter for the Browns won't be better than a low-end No. 2 Fantasy QB this season. Quinn is our pick for now, so he'd be worth a late-round choice as a backup or third-string Fantasy option.
News: Browns offensive coordinator Brian Daboll met with the media earlier this week and addressed the QB battle between Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson. Daboll said "the best player is going to win it." Daboll refuted an earlier report by head coach Eric Mangini that said Quinn has a leg up in the competition because he's more familiar with the new offense. Anderson also has a calf injury, which has limited him in offseason workouts. So, is Quinn ahead coming into training camp? "No," Daboll said.
Analysis: We still expect Quinn to win the job, but it will make it harder for Fantasy owners to decide on drafting either guy the longer the competition lingers. At best, the winner of this battle is worth using as a No. 2 option and can be drafted with a late-round pick.
News: Following the Browns' latest minicamp, head coach Eric Mangini said that Brady Quinn held a slight lead on Derek Anderson for the starting QB job based on the offseason program. "I'd say that we're going to go into training camp as [motioned with hand as even]." Mangini said. Compounding the competition was Anderson hurting his right calf, sitting out most of practice with his leg wrapped in ice. Both he and Mangini declined to clarify the injury -- Mangini would only say he'll be fine for training camp.
Analysis: We expect Quinn to land the job, though he won't have much job security. Anderson, meanwhile, continues to get banged up and has become the latest poster boy for Fantasy one-year wonders. Remember that the only real threat either guy will have to throw to is Braylon Edwards, who is coming off an awful year of his own. At best, the winner of this battle will be worth using as a No. 2 option in Fantasy play this year.
News: The Cleveland Plain-Dealer reports Browns coach Eric Mangini doesn't anticipate choosing his starting QB until well into the preseason schedule. That means the Browns might not know who the starting QB is between Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn until the third preseason game, Aug. 29 at home against Tennessee. Quinn and Anderson have competed on the field for nine practices. There are two more OTAs next week and then a mandatory three-day minicamp before training camp. "The big (criteria) for me is huddle presence and the ability to run the offense, so who can most effectively run the offense, who can look at the defense, understand what the coverage is and throw to the right place, who can see a blitz look and put us in the right play, who can do the check-with-me's where you have two plays called and understand this is the better of the two selections," Mangini said. "Those things are huge because there's always going to be some right answer and the ability for us offensively to get to the right answer in a short amount of time under pressure, that's what's going to drive us."
Analysis: Mangini did say he wants a clear starter and a backup and ruled out rotating QBs during a game. We still expect Quinn to win the job, but it will make it harder for Fantasy owners to decide on drafting either guy the longer the competition lingers. At best, the winner of this battle is worth using as a No. 2 option and can be drafted with a late-round pick.
News: The Cleveland Plain-Dealer reports Browns coach Eric Mangini said the battle between Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson could linger because both QBs have struggled. "It's a group thing," said Mangini. "If the routes are run crisper and at a more precise depth, then some of the throws will improve as they learn some the reads better and the plays better." Mangini also said the staff has thrown "a ton of stuff at them and it's high, high, high volume. We're exposing the group to as much as possible, as opposed to getting it in small chunks." But Mangini can also see progress. "The [quarterbacks have] both been making some good progress," said Mangini. "The nice thing about quarterbacks is that they relish [the pressure]. They're excited about learning as much as possible, hearing as much as possible, and they're always proactive in trying to get the next day's install, the next day's situation. All the quarterbacks I've dealt with over time have had that mentality."
Analysis: It sounds like the QB battle will continue throughout training camp, which was expected. We still expect Quinn to win the job, but this is something worth keeping an eye on. The winner of the spot will be a No. 2 Fantasy QB, and Quinn has more upside than Anderson.
News: According to a report, Browns coach Eric Mangini made it a point last week to say that Brady Quinn was slightly ahead of Derek Anderson in the QB competition. But Mangini clarified the situation prior to practice Wednesday. "Quinn was just the starting rep the starting day," Mangini said, according to scout.com. "(Quinn and Anderson) both had exactly the same amount of reps. They have had the exact amount of reps in every practice."
Analysis: It sounds like the QB battle will continue throughout training camp, which was expected. We still expect Quinn to win the job, but this is something worth keeping an eye on. The winner of the spot will be a No. 2 Fantasy QB, and Quinn has more upside than Anderson.
News: ESPN reports that Browns head coach Eric Mangini has given the early nod in the team's race for the starting QB job to Brady Quinn, not Derek Anderson. Both worked during the club's recent minicamp with the first-team offense, but Quinn has had a better offseason. "Brady will get the first reps [Thursday]," Mangini said. "He started with the first reps on Wednesday, and that's because he's done a really outstanding job in the offseason program. Not that Derek hasn't done well, but [Quinn] gets the first reps." Mangini warned reporters and Browns fans not to look into his comments much.
Analysis: Previously, there was a report that Quinn would start the season as the No. 1 QB, and this jibes with that report. It's early, but it makes sense for Quinn to be the primary passer since he played better in the reps he had last year. He also has plenty of upside, though the reality is that the Browns offense doesn't have a lot of playmakers. Whomever starts for the Browns is no better than a No. 2 option in Fantasy play because the offense isn't expected to be explosive. Quinn has the better long-term value.
News: The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Browns QB Brady Quinn will be the team's starter this year ahead of Derek Anderson. The paper sites a league source, not someone associated with the team, that there will be an open competition between Quinn and Anderson and that Quinn will prevail.
Analysis: This isn't exactly a guarantee that Quinn will win the job, especially since there's going to be a competition. And having Quinn as the starter is something we expected all along. Still, keep an eye on what happens this offseason and during training camp because this story is far from over. We like Quinn as a better Fantasy option than Anderson, and you should consider Quinn a low-end No. 2 QB with a late-round pick in all leagues. If Anderson wins the job, his Fantasy value will be similar to Quinn's.
News: The Browns drafted a pair of wide receivers in the second round of the NFL Draft on Saturday, which should help quarterbacks Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson, whoever wins the job. The Browns drafted WR Brian Robiskie from Ohio State and Mohamed Massaquoi from Georgia with the hope they can help replace the departed Kellen Winslow and help fill the void if Donte Stallworth has any problems following his DUI-manslaughter charges.
Analysis: The Browns needed help at this spot with Winlsow and Stallworth possibly gone and Braylon Edwards the only real receiving weapon. This should help Quinn or Anderson, and we believe Quinn will win the job. Continue to monitor what happens with each QB, but adding weapons is never a bad thing.
News: The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the Browns aren't interested in trading QB Brady Quinn, according to an NFL executive with knowledge about the situation. New Browns head coach Eric Mangini previously said that he would hold a quarterback competition between Quinn and Derek Anderson, both of whom started games for the Browns last season.
Analysis: In three starts last year, Quinn completed 45-of-89 of his passes (50.6 pct.) for 518 yards (5.8 yards per attempt), two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also had 21 rush yards on five carries before tearing a ligament in and breaking the tip of a finger on his throwing hand. We'd consider whomever wins the job a sleeper for '09 but draftable strictly as a No. 2 Fantasy QB. That would be Quinn if he sticks in Cleveland.
News: Browns coach Eric Mangini told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that he has officially begun the competition for the starting QB job between Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson. Mangini will give each guy a chance to start and hasn't ruled out trading one of them if a good offer comes along. "I talked to both of them about that and was very clear," Mangini said. "I said if they have any questions they can come and see me. In terms of the competition and their opportunities. That's what I told them. They understand that."
Analysis: The last time Mangini had a QB competition, he traded for Brett Favre and anointed him the starter just weeks before the season. Anyway, in three starts last year, Quinn completed 45-of-89 of his passes (50.6 pct.) for 518 yards (5.8 yards per attempt), two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also had 21 rush yards on five carries. Anderson started nine games and played in another, finishing with 1,615 yards on 142-of-283 passing (50.2 pct. for 5.7 yards per attempt) with nine touchdowns, eight interceptions and two fumbles lost. Quinn's season ended with a broken tip and torn ligament in his right finger; Anderson's season ended with a partially torn MCL in his left knee. We'd consider whomever wins the job a sleeper for '09 but draftable strictly as a No. 2 Fantasy QB.
News: The Canton Repository reports the Browns are still sorting through the question of whether Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn both under contract will be on the roster together this year. New coach Eric Mangini said offensive coordinator Brian Daboll has talked to both quarterbacks "a little bit." Mangini likened his assessment of Anderson's rise and fall to analyzing a college prospect. "Sometimes you get fooled by a senior tape," Mangini said. "You look at his junior tape and look at it collectively. You get a better picture of a guy. You get a feel for what the ceiling is and what the floor is. I am trying to get a big picture, and I want to spend time with him and learn more about him."
Analysis: The decision between Quinn and Anderson will likely be decided during minicamp if Anderson remains with the team. There's still a chance the Browns could release Anderson, but the most likely scenario is Quinn starts with Anderson as the No. 2 option. Still, it's a situation worth keeping an eye on to see what develops.
News: The Northern Ohio News-Herald reports that new Browns coach Eric Mangini wouldn't talk much about who he'll pick as his starting quarterback for next season, and that Brady Quinn, who was tabbed the starter by ex-head coach Romeo Crennel before he was fired, will have to compete for the job. Derek Anderson remains on the Browns roster, and for now, the expectation is that they will battle for the starting job next summer. "It's a situation with any player, and I know the quarterback is a little more out front, you assess what they can do physically, what their huddle presence is like and what their decision process is like," said Mangini.
Analysis: Expect a competition so long as one of these quarterbacks don't get traded this offseason (Anderson is a candidate for a trade after flubbing last season). In three starts, Quinn completed 45-of-89 of his passes (50.6 pct.) for 518 yards (5.8 yards per attempt), two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also had 21 rush yards on five totes.
News: Browns quarterback Brady Quinn had two pins surgically inserted into his broken right index finger on Wednesday and said he hopes to begin throwing once they are removed next month. "In six weeks, once the pins are out, then we'll start to do a minor rehab program," Quinn said on a conference call. "I should be able to throw sometime soon after that." Quinn broke the tip of his finger in a Nov. 17 game at Buffalo and then made the injury worse by playing the following week against Houston.
Analysis: With a successful surgery and recovery, Browns coach Romeo Crennel has said Quinn will be his starter next season. The thing about that is Crennel's status with the team is in doubt for next season. In any event, we expect to call Quinn a No. 2 Fantasy QB heading into 2009 drafts, though his upside carries him into being a middle- to late-round pick. Naturally, if Crennel is fired, then this status has some potential to change. We'll keep you posted on Quinn's status throughout the offseason (cross your fingers that he doesn't get a staph infection like several Browns before him).
News: Browns quarterback Brady Quinn will undergo surgery on his right index finger, a procedure that will require up to 10 weeks of recovery time. Quinn, who has been weighing his options for the past week, will have the operation in Alabama on Wednesday. He broke the tip of his finger and sustained tendon damage on his throwing hand in Week 11 against Buffalo. He played the next week against Houston and made his injury worse. Doctors will insert a pin into Quinn's finger to stabilize the bone and tendon. Quinn started three games for the Browns, who also lost quarterback Derek Anderson to a season-ending knee injury.
Analysis: Additionally, Browns coach Romeo Crennel said despite the injury, Quinn will be his starter next season, a surprising and presumptive statement because Crennel may not be back for his fifth season. Teams that don't have a no-brainer starting quarterback normally don't announce their starter this early, which makes Crennel's announcement weird.
News: Browns quarterback Brady Quinn is still deciding whether to have surgery on his damaged right index finger. Quinn is done for the season after breaking the finger on his throwing hand, an injury he made worse by playing in Week 12's loss to the Houston Texans. Doctors have given the second-year QB two options: have an operation or immobilize his finger in a splint for six weeks. It's possible even if Quinn chooses rest as his course of recovery, he may still need surgery if the injury doesn't heal properly. Additionally, Browns coach Romeo Crennel said despite the injury and the fact the former first-round draft pick played just one game when he was healthy, Quinn will be his starter next season, a surprising and presumptive statement because Crennel may not be back for his fifth season. Nonetheless, Quinn was pleased to receive Crennel's endorsement. "You have to feel very appreciative of that and you have to feel a lot of confidence when your coach is behind you, even through an injury and even through everything," he said "But this league's crazy. I just try to take things week to week and day to day and that's how I'm going to continue to look at it."
Analysis: What's weird about Crennel's announcement is that teams that don't have a no-brainer starting quarterback normally don't announce their starter this early. We expect to call Quinn a No. 2 Fantasy QB heading into 2009 drafts, though his upside carries him into being a middle- to late-round pick. Naturally, if Crennel is fired, then this status has some potential to change. We'll keep our eyes on the wire to see what happens with Quinn's finger, too.
News: In a strange and stunning development, Browns coach Romeo Crennel named Brady Quinn his starting quarterback heading into the 2009 season on the same day that he was placed on Injured Reserve, ending his 2008 season, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Quinn was put on IR with a broken bone and torn ligament in his right (throwing) index finger, an injury suffered in Week 11. He tried to play through it in Week 12 but couldn't without hurting himself more. He is expected to be healed in six weeks, which may have prompted Crennel to make his surprise statement on Wednesday. "I'm impressed with what the kid has done on the field, off the field, the way he handles himself in situations, the way he's run the team, not getting rattled, keeping his composure, being able to manage the game," Crennel said. "I like all of that about him. I like the kid a lot."
Analysis: What's weird about this is that teams that don't have a no-brainer starting quarterback normally don't announce their starter this early. Moreover, there's no guarantee that Crennel will coach the Browns in 2008, so a statement like this raises some eyebrows. However, if Crennel remains the Browns' head coach, then we can take him at his word here and consider Quinn the starter (what does this mean for Derek Anderson?). We expect to call Quinn a No. 2 Fantasy QB heading into 2009 drafts, though his upside carries him into being a middle- to late-round pick. Naturally, if Crennel is fired, then this status has some potential to change.
News: Browns coach Romeo Crennel says quarterback Brady Quinn will miss Cleveland's final five games with a broken right index finger. Crennel said Wednesday that Quinn is weighing options of resting the injury or having surgery. Quinn, who broke the tip of the finger on his throwing hand Nov. 17 at Buffalo, tried to play with the injury last Sunday against Houston. Following the 16-6 loss, an exam revealed Quinn's finger wasn't healing. Crennel said Quinn did not do further damage by playing in the game. He threw two interceptions and was benched in the third quarter by Crennel. The second-year QB visited famed orthopedist Dr. James Andrews on Tuesday for a second opinion. Derek Anderson will start Sunday against Indianapolis.
Analysis: Anderson, who lost his starting job to Quinn three weeks ago, will start Week 13 when the Browns host the Colts and would be worth picking up again in deeper leagues. Quinn has upside and is likely the Browns' quarterback of the future, but he didn't perform well enough this season to enter 2009 as more than a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: Browns QB Brady Quinn will have his injured right index finger examined by noted orthopedist Dr. James Andrews. Quinn, who broke the finger and damaged a tendon on his throwing hand in a win over Buffalo in Week 11, will visit Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., for a second opinion on Tuesday, a person with knowledge of Quinn's injury said on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation. Quinn is seeing Andrews on his own initiative, the person said Monday night.
Analysis: Quinn, who recently took over as Cleveland's starter, was benched by coach Romeo Crennel late in the third quarter Week 12 after throwing his second interception in a 16-6 loss to Houston. After the Texans' loss, Quinn refused to blame his injured finger for his poor performance. However, Crennel said Monday that Quinn had trouble throwing the ball because of the injured tendon. "It makes it tough for him to spin it (the ball) the way he wants to spin it," Crennel said. The visit to Dr. Andrews has to have Quinn's Fantasy owners concerned, but given his inconsistency so far, he shouldn't serve as more than a No. 2 Fantasy option anyway. Crennel has already named Quinn the starter for Week 13 against the Colts.
News: Browns coach Romeo Crennel said Monday that quarterback Brady Quinn has not lost his starting job after being pulled in the third quarter on Sunday in favor of Derek Anderson. Quinn finished 8-of-18 passing for 94 yards and two interceptions vs. Houston in Week 12 while Anderson finished 5-of-14 passing for 51 yards and an interception. Crennel was hoping Anderson, a Pro Bowler who was benched earlier this season, could spark the Browns, but Quinn will be under center when Cleveland hosts Indianapolis in Week 13.
Analysis: Crennel added that Quinn, who broke the tip of his right index finger in a win last week over Buffalo, has a damaged tendon that affects the rotation on his passes. That certainly won't help his production if he can't properly throw a football. With a matchup against a tough Colts pass defense in Week 13, figure Quinn to be no better than a middle-end No. 2 Fantasy passer. Consider other options at the position and leave Quinn benched or on the waiver wire.
News: Browns QB Brady Quinn was pulled in the second half of his third start by coach Romeo Crennel in Week 12 against the Texans after throwing two interceptions, the second a killer inside Houston's 10-yard line. Quinn was playing with a broken right index finger on his throwing hand, but Crennel said the injury was not the lone reason for switching to Derek Anderson, who lost his starting job to Quinn three weeks ago. "It was a combination of his decisions that could have been a little better and the injury to his finger," Crennel said in explaining his surprising move. "I decided to play the other guy for a little bit to see if that could give us a spark, and that didn't work either." Quinn finished 8-of-18 passing for 94 yards and two interceptions. Anderson finished 5-of-14 passing for 51 yards and an interception.
Analysis: Quinn said his fractured finger, which the former Notre Dame star hurt in Monday night's win over the Bills, was not a factor in his poor performance. Quinn, though, was not clear why he didn't get to finish the game. "You would have to ask Coach why I was pulled," he said. "He was upset with a couple of decisions I made out there. I didn't have any idea that I was on such a short leash." Crennel was adamant that Quinn would remain Cleveland's No. 1 QB. "Brady has not lost his job," Crennel said. "He is still the quarterback and we are going to through the week and prepare him and he is going to play." Still, even with Crennel's assurance, Quinn quite obviously has a short leash. He has nice long-term potential, but he looks like no more than a No. 2 Fantasy option in Week 13 against the Colts.
News: Browns QB Brady Quinn, who broke his right index finger in Week 11, will play Week 12 against the Texans. The injury didn't seem to bother him in practice, but he said it's a little sore.
Analysis: Go into this game with Quinn as a No. 2 Fantasy QB, especially since he won't be at 100 percent. He struggled against the Bills last week on 14-of-36 passing for 185 yards, which could have had something to do with the finger injury.
News: Browns QB Brady Quinn broke his right index finger during the first half of Monday night's game against the Buffalo Bills, but Cleveland's new starter stayed in and led the Browns to a 29-27 victory. Despite the injury, Quinn will try to play Sunday when the Browns host the Houston Texans. "At this point, it's just a little sore," he said before practice on Thursday. "Just doing the best we can to take all the precautions to make sure it's all right." Quinn, who is listed as probable, didn't seem to be bothered by the finger while throwing during the 30-minute segment of practice open to the media. He didn't favor the finger while taking snaps and fired a few tight spirals while working out in the team's indoor practice facility.
Analysis: It appears Quinn will play against the Texans and try to tough out the injury. Go into this game with Quinn as a No. 2 Fantasy QB since he won't be at 100 percent. He struggled against the Bills last week on 14-of-36 passing for 185 yards, which could have had something to do with the finger injury. He might also be down TE Kellen Winslow, who is nursing a shoulder injury.
News: Cleveland Browns QB Brady Quinn broke his right index finger in Monday night's win over Buffalo but will try to play Sunday against the Houston Texans. The team initially thought Quinn only bruised his hand after banging it on the helmet of a Bills player, but X-rays taken after practice Wednesday revealed a fracture on the tip of his finger. A specialist at the Cleveland Clinic cleared Quinn to play. Making his second career start, Quinn stayed in against Buffalo and finished 14 of 36 for 185 yards. Browns coach Romeo Crennel said Quinn, who recently took over the starting job from Derek Anderson, was able to grip the ball during practice. The second-year QB will wear a splint when he is not on the field.
Analysis: Keep an eye on Quinn and what the Browns say following practice Thursday and Friday. For now, expect him to play against the Texans, but this could limit his play. If he can practice without any problems, he should play Sunday. If healthy, consider Quinn a No. 2 Fantasy QB this week.
News: Browns QB Brady Quinn, who threw two touchdown passes in his first career start Week 10, came back down to earth a bit Week 11 at Buffalo. He finished 14-of-36 passing for 185 yards. He also ran four times for 18 yards.
Analysis: Quinn relied heavily on short, underneath passes in his first start, which made his final line look more impressive than his actual play. Throwing more intermediate passes against a tougher defense, he struggled. He has obvious upside and a decent supporting cast, but you probably don't want to rely on him as a Fantasy starter so early in his career. Think of him as a No. 2 option Week 12 against the Texans.
News: Browns second-year QB Brady Quinn, making his first career start, had an impressive showing Week 10 against the Broncos. He went 23-of-35 passing for 239 yards, connecting on two touchdown passes to TE Kellen Winslow -- a five-yarder and a 16-yarder. He didn't commit a single turnover.
Analysis: If you own Quinn in Fantasy, you have reason to be excited. He has plenty of upside, and he could have more performances like this one. But before you consider him the answer to all your hopes and prayers, you might want to take note of his 6.8 yards per attempt. He accumulated his yards mostly on short passes underneath, allowing his receivers to make plays. The conservative approach worked against a poor defense like Denver's, but Quinn will get a better test Week 11 at Buffalo. Consider him a No. 2 Fantasy option for the matchup.
News: The Browns were smart to give QB Brady Quinn his first NFL start Thursday against the Broncos, who have struggled to stop the pass all year, allowing 243.3 yards per game with 12 touchdowns and three interceptions. Denver also is without four starters on defense, including defensive backs Champ Bailey and Marlon McCree.
Analysis: Quinn might not have much more success than Derek Anderson, especially if Kellen Winslow doesn't play well and Braylon Edwards keeps dropping the ball. But this is a good week to find out, and if you need a Fantasy quarterback, Quinn is worth starting. Consider him a low-end No. 1 option because of the matchup.
News: Ready or not, here comes Brady Quinn. "Knock wood, I hope the guy doesn't fall on his face," Browns coach Romeo Crennel said. How's that for confidence? Following another strange few days in Cleveland, Quinn will make his first NFL start on Thursday night as the struggling Browns host the Denver Broncos. The moment he emerges from the tunnel in his No. 10 jersey in front of a national TV audience, Quinn will be serenaded by chants of "Bra-dy, Bra-dy," from adoring Browns fans, who fell for the first-round pick before he completed his first pass as a pro. How long they'll be cheering is anyone's guess. Anderson's demotion sent shockwaves through the Browns' locker room as teammates wondered why he was being singled out for the team's many woes. "Nobody saw it coming," linebacker Willie McGinest said. "'I don't think it's one person why we're losing. When we lose, we lose as a team." Crennel doesn't know how long Quinn will keep his job. One thing is clear, though, the Browns are running out of options. "We will see how it goes," Crennel said. "I dont think you can say anything is ever permanent. But if he falls on his face you have got to do something because I can't go play quarterback."
Analysis: Quinn doesn't have much experience but the Browns thought this was the time to get him in there for jettisoned Derek Anderson. The Broncos defense is certainly one where Quinn can get his bearings under him. It is his first NFL start so he's going to be shaky, that's certain, but against the Broncos you can treat him like a No. 2 QB worthy of starting if you need a last-minute replacement.
News: The last time Brady Quinn threw a pass in an NFL game was Week 17 of last season against the 49ers. In that game, his only as a professional, he was 3-for-8 for 45 yards. The Browns will start Quinn at home against Denver's porous defense in Week 10. The Broncos are allowing 243 passing yards per game and are among the worst pass defenses in the NFL, not to mention horrid against the rush as well.
News: Quarterback Derek Anderson has been benched by the Browns, who will start popular backup Brady Quinn on Thursday night against the Broncos. The switch was confirmed Monday by the team, just hours after coach Romeo Crennel said he had no plans to make a change. Anderson, who has been inconsistent this season, threw a costly interception that was returned for a touchdown in the final minutes of Sunday's 37-27 loss to the Ravens in Week 9. Anderson has struggled to maintain a completion percentage of even 50 percent this year and has nine touchdowns and seven interceptions, failing to perform like he did in his breakout 2007 season.
Analysis: Quinn has a lot of great intangibles, the biggest of which a quick release and a fairly accurate arm. Now that he's at the helm of a potentially dangerous Browns offense, look for the club to do better. Consider Quinn a quality addition off the waiver wire this week, especially with Kyle Orton and Matt Schaub finding the injury report following Week 9. He's also in line to post good numbers against a sagging Broncos pass defense in Week 10.
News: In the Browns' 37-27 loss vs. the Ravens, QB Derek Anderson was 17-of-33 passing for 219 yards with two touchdowns and 8 rush yards but made a bonehead play late in the game when he threw a short dump-off pass that was intercepted and returned for a touchdown by Terrell Suggs. Anderson has played moderately well of late, but the Browns find themselves of 3-5 and could be close to changing quarterbacks, bringing in Brady Quinn, though coach Romeo Crennel did not disclose anything to that effect after the game.
Analysis: Anderson's stat line was fine, but the giveaway INT late in the game might have sealed his fate. What helps Anderson's case is that the Browns are on a short week as they host the Broncos on Thursday night as part of Week 10 action, so the time Quinn might need to get ready in practice won't be there -- but it could be following the Week 10 game. Anderson is no better than a platoon quarterback at this point, and even with the easy matchup against Denver in Week 10, he's still a risky proposition. Consider all other options before starting Anderson. As for Quinn, now is the time to add him as a flier since he could be under center for the Browns by Week 11.
News: Browns WR Josh Cribbs, QB Brady Quinn and TE Martin Rucker all dressed, but failed to record an offensive stat Week 8 against the Jaguards.
Analysis: Cribbs is a special teams guru. Quinn is the Browns' future QB. And Rucker is a backup tight end. They all have little to no offensive role at this time and should be kept off most Fantasy rosters. The Browns play the Ravens Week 9.
News: Cleveland had just two active players fail to stat in Week 7 against the Redskins in Washington. Wide receiver Syndric Steptoe and backup QB Brady Quinn did not stat. Steptoe saw game action and Quinn did not.
Analysis: Quinn may become a viable Fantasy option if the Browns decide to start him over the struggling Derek Anderson but has no value with Anderson as the starter. Steptoe has no Fantasy value at this time. The Browns meet the Jaguars in Jacksonville in Week 8.
News: Browns RB Charles Ali and QB Brady Quinn didn't record offensive statistics Week 6 against the Giants.
Analysis: Derek Anderson's brilliant performance likely confines Quinn to the bench for at least a few more weeks. Neither he nor Ali deserves a look in Fantasy right now.
News: Browns QB Brady Quinn didn't play in Week 4 at the Bengals, with Derek Anderson starting and playing the whole game. Since the Browns won 20-12, Anderson will likely keep his job.
Analysis: Keep Quinn reserved for now, and he will likely continue to be the No. 2 QB. Anderson appears to have kept his job at this time. Cleveland is on a bye in Week 5 and plays the Giants in Week 6.
News: Browns QB Derek Anderson will start Cleveland's Week 4 game at Cincinnati, not backup QB Brady Quinn. "Anderson is the starter, and Quinn will be ready," coach Romeo Crennel said Wednesday morning. "I'm not gonna go into the whens, the wheres and the what-ifs, but the decision has been made, and we're going to go forward."
Analysis: Quinn is worth owning as a flier since his time might come sooner than later, and he should be prepared for it and have potential to put up some decent numbers. Just don't expect him to contribute much in Week 4's game at the Bengals.
News: The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Browns QB Brady Quinn will get more reps with the first team this week in case he has to replace an ineffective Derek Anderson at some point in the near future. "I think we'll definitely try to get the other guy (Quinn) ready to go and we'll see how it progresses from there," coach Romeo Crennel said Monday. "We'll probably give him a few more reps in practice right now."
Analysis: Quinn will be a hot pickup in deeper leagues heading into Week 4 and his ownership totals will blow up if he finds himself under center at some point against the Bengals. He's definitely worth owning as a third QB right now in deeper leagues, but don't waste a valuable roster spot on him if you can't afford to.
News: Browns TE Steve Heiden, FB Charles Ali, WR Steve Sanders, TE Darnell Dinkins and QB Brady Quinn all dressed for Cleveland's Week 3 loss to the Ravens, but failed to record a stat.
Analysis: The only player in this group with Fantasy value is Quinn, and he could see the field soon if Derek Anderson continues to struggle. Ignore the rest. Cleveland visits Cincinnati in Week 4.
News: Browns RB Charles Ali, TE Steve Heiden, TE Darnell Dinkins, WR Steve Sanders and QB Brady Quinn didn't record offensive statistics Week 2 against the Steelers.
Analysis: None of these players contributes enough on offense to have any Fantasy appeal. Leave them all on waivers.
News: The following Browns did not record any offensive statistics in Week 1 against Dallas: QB Brady Quinn, RB Charles Ali, RB Lawrence Vickers and TE Darnell Dinkins.
Analysis: None of the players on this list are going to be in line for considerable playing time anytime soon. Leave them on the waiver wire in all Fantasy leagues until further notice. They've got some depth chart climbing to do.
News: Cleveland Browns quarterback Derek Anderson, sidelined since Aug. 18 with a concussion, returned to practice Monday and is expected to start Sunday's season opener against the Dallas Cowboys. Browns coach Romeo Crennel indicated that his Pro Bowl quarterback would play against the Cowboys as long as he didn't have any setbacks during Cleveland's workout. Crennel said Anderson, who got hurt when he was sacked by New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora in an exhibition game Aug. 18, will have to pass a medical evaluation before he's cleared for the opener. "The doctors need to see that he can handle the sunlight, which is pretty bright out today, that he can handle the verbiage of the offense, be able to handle the checks and do the things that a quarterback has to do," Crennel said. "If he can do those things and doesn't have any headaches afterwards then chances are they will let him go."
Analysis: The news of Anderson prepping for Week 1 against the Cowboys means bad news for backup QB Brady Quinn, as it doesn't appear he will get his first pro start. Continue to view Quinn as a handcuff Fantasy option to Anderson and long-term keeper. If he gets a start, we will let you know.
News: Browns starting QB Derek Anderson made an appearance on the practice field Tuesday, his first since suffering a concussion Aug. 18 in a preseason game against the New York Giants. He did some throwing at the beginning of practice while wearing his helmet, and left the field once team drills began. Brady Quinn again took snaps with the first-team offense and is expected to start Thursday night in the preseason finale against the Chicago Bears. Coach Romeo Crennel said it is unlikely Anderson would play. Quinn could play as much as a half before giving way to third-stringer Ken Dorsey, Crennel said.
Analysis: Despite Anderson's continued absence, Crennel said he hasn't started preparing Quinn for a possible start against the Cowboys, which would be his first regular-season NFL start. Quinn is not yet worth drafting in most seasonal leagues, but he has some value with a late-round pick in keeper leagues in 2008. If anything changes for the season opener, we will let you know.
News: Browns quarterback Derek Anderson wasn't cleared to return to practice Monday, so Brady Quinn likely will start his second straight game Thursday night in the preseason finale against the Chicago Bears. Anderson suffered a concussion Aug. 18 when he was sacked by New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora and his helmet banged off the Giants Stadium turf. He hasn't practiced or talked to the media since. Coach Romeo Crennel said Monday that Anderson hasn't passed tests designed to determine whether he's returned to normal brain function. "He's in the building and walking around," Crennel said. "Those concussions, you've got to go slow with those. They say rest is the best thing."
Analysis: Despite Anderson's continued absence, Crennel said he hasn't started preparing Quinn for a possible start against the Cowboys, which would be his first regular-season NFL start. Quinn was 14-for-24 for 106 yards versus the Lions. He led two field-goal drives in a little more than a half of playing time. Quinn is not yet worth drafting in most seasonal leagues, but he has some value with a late-round pick in keeper leagues in 2008. If anything changes for the season opener, we will let you know.

News: Starting his first preseason game, Browns QB Brady Quinn played fairly well in Derek Anderson's absence Saturday against the Lions. Quinn threw for 106 yards on 14-of-24 passing. He did a nice job leading the offense at times, but often was hurried and forced to make less-than-stellar decisions. One such play was on third down when he led Donte' Stallworth too much to miss an easy first and later hit his receiver in the back of the helmet when rushed by the defense.
Analysis: Anderson should be fine to start the regular season and it's a good thing for the Browns. Quinn does not look ready to be a starting NFL QB. Quinn is not yet worth drafting in most seasonal leagues, but he has some value with a late-round pick in keeper leagues in 2008. His seasonal league status would change if Anderson is sidelined. Then, Quinn would become a Fantasy sleeper.
News: The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports the Browns might rest QB Derek Anderson for the final two preseason games with a concussion, which will allow Brady Quinn to start. Anderson was hurt in the second preseason game at the Giants.

News:Browns backup QB Brady Quinn was rushed into action in the second quarter during Monday's preseason game against the Giants after Derek Anderson left with a possible concussion. The second-year QB finished the game 7-for-12 with 124 yards and one touchdown -- a 44-yard strike to Syndric Steptoe in the third quarter. Quinn was eventually replaced by Ken Dorsey.
Analysis: The Browns didn't offer much up about Anderson's status after Monday's game, so we don't know how long he might be out. If it lasts until the season opener, then Quinn will likely get the nod. Quinn is not yet worth drafting in most seasonal leagues, but he has some value with a late-round pick in keeper leagues in 2008. His seasonal league status would change if Anderson is sidelined. Then, Quinn would become a Fantasy sleeper.
News: Cleveland backup quarterback Brady Quinn has been labeled a dink-and-dunk passer, reports The Cleveland Plain Dealer. Quinn threw 17 passes in the preseason opener Thursday night against the New York Jets. The play-by-play account of the official NFL game summary described 16 of them as "short." Another pass erased by a penalty was short. Quinn also has repeatedly checked off deep receivers to dump it short in practice as well. "No, I don't think so," Quinn disputes. "If you look at the overall coverage of the previous game, I think they didn't give us anything downfield a whole lot. Especially in the situation I was in. Their coverages aren't going to allow you to make that play." But when starter Derek Anderson and third stringer Ken Dorsey were in there, balls went deep.
Analysis: Quinn may not think he is a dink-and-dunk passer and the truth is, he does have a solid arm and could turn into a very good quarterback in this league for years. It is a little alarming, however, that he's having problem finding his downfield receivers, especially as the other two QBs are not having that issue. That said, Quinn completed 13-of-17 passes for 133 yards Thursday and the Browns scored 10 points in Quinn's four possessions. Quinn still proved he's a capable backup. Quinn is not worth drafting in most seasonal leagues, but he has some value with a late-round pick in keeper leagues in 2008.
News: Cleveland starting QB Derek Anderson was 4-for-5 for 20 yards in Thursday's preseason opener against the Jets, twice connecting on passes to Donte Stallworth. Brady Quinn replaced Anderson and played through the third quarter, completing 13-of-17 passes for 133 yards and one interception.
Analysis: Anderson should be fine for the start of the season. He comes into 2008 as a No. 1 Fantasy option worth a pick in the first four rounds of most leagues. Although Quinn played longer and put up bigger yardage, he did throw the pick and it came against lesser defenders. It looks like Anderson didn't hurt his starting nod at all. Quinn still proved he's a capable backup. Quinn is not worth drafting in most seasonal leagues, but he has some value with a late-round pick in keeper leagues in 2008.
News: Browns coach Romeo Crennel said Wednesday that QB Brady Quinn is not as smooth right now as he needs to be, reports the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Quinn threw three interceptions in one practice last week and had another in Wednesday's morning workout during a rainfall. "He's taken some opportunities to try to make plays down the field that maybe last year he wouldn't make because he would just take what the defense gave him," Crennel said. "But I think he has a better command of the offense and he's trying to anticipate when he can make the play down the field, so I think some of that has occurred."
Analysis: Quinn will return this year as the No. 2 option behind starter Derek Anderson. He is not worth drafting in most seasonal leagues, but he has some value with a late-round pick in keeper leagues in 2008.
News: Browns backup QB Brady Quinn understands he's not guaranteed playing a single snap this season. He may be the people's choice, but Derek Anderson remains coach Romeo Crennel's pick - at the moment. Being No. 2 hasn't slowed Quinn's desire and his urge to compete remains as strong as ever. He's a relentless worker whether in the film room or weight room. Although he didn't make his NFL debut until the final game of his rookie season, replacing Anderson for one series against San Francisco, the small taste of action has him wanting more. "I feel prepared. I feel ready," Quinn said. "I know I learned a lot last year even though I didn't get to play that much at all. I think it did benefit me in many ways. At this point now, I'm ready to play and I'm ready to go. When it comes right down to it, I'm ready for whatever this team needs me to do."
Analysis: Quinn's Fantasy status is tied directly to Anderson's. If Anderson stays healthy and effective, Quinn won't be usable in 2008 seasonal leagues. If Anderson falls on his face, you can be assured that Quinn will find playing time. Until that happens, Quinn is only worth a late-round pick in the deepest of Fantasy Football dynasty/keeper leagues.
News: Browns coach Romeo Crennel told the Canton Repository on Monday that QB Brady Quinn will eventually be a good player. For now, he's the backup behind Derek Anderson. "He is a little bit more cerebral," Crennel said of Quinn. "He's got some leadership qualities. Guys seem to follow him. I think we have a good combination there. They work very well together. Brady envisions himself being the starter at some point in the future. When that's gonna be, I'm not exactly sure. But I tell Brady once a week, 'You're one play away, son,' and he understands that. It's hard to keep quarterbacks on their feet for 16 games. If you've got two good ones, you're better off. We feel like we're in good position at the quarterback spot."
Analysis: Quinn will eventually play a role for the Browns and Fantasy owners, but for now he should only be owned in keeper leagues and dynasty formats. Unless for some shocking reason he's named the starter ahead of Anderson, don't plan on drafting him in seasonal leagues in 2008.
News: Browns rookie QB Brady Quinn barely saw the field in 2007 with the emergence of Derek Anderson. It's likely Quinn will remain a backup again in 2008, with Anderson expected to return as a restricted free agent. Quinn appeared in two games in 2007 and completed 3-of-8 passes for 45 yards.
Analysis: Quinn's Fantasy status is tied directly to Anderson's. If Anderson stays, Quinn won't be draftable in 2008 seasonal leagues. If Anderson goes, you can be assured that Quinn will be a top-end No. 2 Fantasy QB with tons of upside. Keep an eye on what develops for Quinn, but he could be worth taking a late-round flier on as a No. 3 Fantasy QB in case the Browns turn to him at some point in 2008.
News: In his first public comments since Cleveland's turnaround ended one win shy of the postseason, GM Phil Savage said he's hoping to re-sign QB Derek Anderson, who went from inexperienced backup to Pro Bowl alternate in just months. Anderson is scheduled to be a restricted free agent this offseason, one that many teams will consider signing. Savage also believes Anderson and Brady Quinn can co-exist on Cleveland's roster and that having two quality QBs gives the Browns a distinct advantage over other teams. "We want to go into next season with both our quarterbacks intact," Savage said. "You would hate for an injury at that position, if one of them is not here, to derail everything else we've put in place. We want to make sure we stay strong at that position -- for at least one more year."
Frankly, we think that while Anderson had a solid season for the Browns, Quinn, once he had some experience, would have done just as well. The Browns have a fantastic offensive line and plenty of talent at RB, WR and TE. It should be an interesting offseason for Quinn.
News: The Browns are about to embark on an important offseason with several crucial decisions, none bigger than at quarterback. Derek Anderson, the former sixth-round pick who began '07 as Charlie Frye's backup and ended it as a Pro Bowl alternate, is scheduled to become a restricted free agent. The team has several options with Anderson, who passed for 3,787 yards and 29 touchdowns but also had 19 interceptions. Ultimately, they will tender him as such that a team would have to give up at least a first-round pick for signing Anderson. Complicating matters is that Brady Quinn, last year's first-round pick after OT Joe Thomas, also is on Cleveland's roster. The Browns gave up their 2008 first-round draft pick to get him.
Frankly, we think that while Anderson had a solid season for the Browns, Quinn, once he had some experience, would have done just as well. The Browns have a fantastic offensive line and plenty of talent at RB, WR and TE. It should be an interesting offseason for Quinn.
News: Browns starting QB Derek Anderson missed a series in the first half when he hurt a finger on his throwing hand and gave way to rookie Brady Quinn taking some snaps. Quinn looked sharp despite his stats (3-of-8 for 45 yards) as his receivers bobbled a couple of passes, including two in the end zone.
Analysis: Quinn's future is tied to Anderson's: The veteran is a restricted free agent this offseason and could change teams. If that happens, then Quinn will move into the starting role with the Browns. If Anderson stays, Quinn won't be Fantasy relevant unless he changes teams. Either way, the Browns QB situation will be an interesting area to watch this offseason.
News: Browns quarterback Derek Anderson injured a finger on his right hand, was taken for evaluation in the first half of Sunday's game against the 49ers, and returned in the third quarter. He missed one series, where Brady Quinn came in for him.
Analysis: Before getting injured, Anderson threw a 45-yard TD pass to Braylon Edwards to put Cleveland ahead 14-0. It was Anderson's 29th TD pass this season, one shy of Brian Sipe's club record. He'll have a shot to tie the record assuming he stays upright for the rest of the game. Quinn looked good in limited reps in Anderson's stead.
News: Browns quarterback Derek Anderson injured a finger on his right hand and was taken for evaluation in the first half of Sunday's game against the 49ers. Anderson, whose emergence has pushed the Browns to the brink of a playoff berth, appeared to get hurt when he was hit by 49ers safety Michael Lewis while throwing an incomplete pass. Anderson grabbed his hand and walked slowly to the sideline. He sat briefly on the bench before he was escorted to the locker room by Browns medical personnel. The team said his return was questionable. Rookie Brady Quinn, who has not taken a snap all season, made his NFL debut with 3:11 left to a thunderous ovation. Quinn's first pass as a pro was batted down. His first completion was a 15-yarder to tight end Steve Heiden.
Analysis: Before getting injured, Anderson threw a 45-yard TD pass to Braylon Edwards to put Cleveland ahead 14-0. It was Anderson's 29th TD pass this season, one shy of Brian Sipe's club record. Anderson began the season as a backup, but took over when starter Charlie Frye was traded after a 34-7 loss in the season opener to Pittsburgh. Anderson threw five TD passes the following week against Cincinnati and has been one of the league's surprise stories this season.
News: As the wins began piling up during this magical season, the Browns' most popular rookie found himself standing helplessly on the sideline wishing he was on the field. How often was that, Brady Quinn? "Every time," he said Wednesday. "I'm a quarterback." A high-profile, high-paid, high-ceilinged backup QB to be precise. And Quinn is still waiting. Because of the unusual circumstances surrounding Cleveland's home finale on Sunday against San Francisco, it is possible Quinn could make his NFL debut. By squandering a chance to control their playoff destiny with a 19-14 loss last Sunday in Cincinnati, the Browns have rendered their matchup with the 49ers almost meaningless. Even with a win, Cleveland can only make the AFC playoffs if Tennessee (9-6) loses at Indianapolis (13-2) later that night.
Analysis: Not that long ago, the idea of Quinn sitting behind Derek Anderson wasn't very likely. This season, however, the only national exposure for the former Notre Dame star has been on commercials. Meanwhile, Anderson has started 14 games with No. 15 on Sunday highly likely. "We're going to play to win and try to win," Crennel said. "Whoever gives us the best chance to win, that's who we're going to play. Quinn has been one play away all year. He's still one play away. If he has to play, he'll go in and represent himself well and he'll represent the Browns well." For now, don't plan on Quinn playing. As for next year, if Anderson leaves as a restricted free agent, then plan on drafting Quinn as a No. 2 Fantasy QB.
News: Browns QB Brady Quinn didn't play Sunday at the Bengals.
Analysis: Quinn is getting a good view of the success Derek Anderson is having this year. Keep Quinn on the bench for the rest of this season in all your Fantasy leagues.
News: Browns QB Brady Quinn didn't play Sunday against the Bills.
Analysis: Quinn is getting a good view of the success Derek Anderson is having this year. Keep Quinn on the bench for the rest of this season in all your Fantasy leagues.
News: Browns RB Charles Ali, WR Tim Carter, TE Darnell Dinkins and QB Brady Quinn didn't record statistics Week 14 at the Jets.
Analysis: These players don't contribute enough statistically to have value in Fantasy. Leave all on waivers.
News: Browns RB Jerome Harrison, WR Tim Carter, TE Darnell Dinkins and QB Brady Quinn all dressed, but failed to record an offensive stat Week 13 against the Cardinals.
Analysis: The Browns continue to be patient with Quinn and he will sit on the bench as long as Derek Anderson is healthy. Quinn is nothing more than a long-term Fantasy keeper. The remaining three players are merely reserves and are not a big part of the Browns offense. Ignore all of these players heading into Week 14 against the Jets.
News: Browns QB Brady Quinn, TE Steve Heiden and WR Tim Carter did not record a stat Sunday against Houston.
Analysis: None of these players are worth using in Fantasy leagues in Week 13 at Arizona.
News: Browns QB Brady Quinn did not play Sunday at Baltimore.
Analysis: Quinn has no Fantasy value at this point and should only be owned in keeper leagues.
News: Browns QB Brady Quinn didn't play Sunday against the Steelers.
Analysis: Quinn is the No. 2 QB for the Browns and will not play as long as Derek Anderson is healthy. Do not use Quinn in Week 11 at Baltimore.
News: Browns RB Jerome Harrison, RB Charles Ali, WR Tim Carter, TE Darnell Dinkins and QB Brady Quinn didn't record statistics Week 9 against the Seahawks.
Analysis: These players don't play a significant enough role on offense to have any Fantasy value. Keep all on waivers for Week 10 at Pittsburgh.
News: Browns backup QB Brady Quinn, FB Charles Ali and TE Darnell Dinkins were all active in Cleveland's 27-20 win over the Rams in Week 8 but did not record an offensive stat.
Analysis: Quinn obviously has some value in keeper formats, but Ali and Dinkins have zero Fantasy value at this time.
News: Browns TE Darnell Dinkins and QB Brady Quinn dressed, but did not record an offensive stat during a Week 5 loss to the Patriots.
Analysis: Quinn almost got into the game against the Patriots when Derek Anderson was shook up in the second quarter, but Anderson stayed in the game and Quinn remained on the sidelines. Quinn is nothing more than a long-term Fantasy keeper at this time. Dinkins has no Fantasy value as a No. 3 tight end in the NFL.
News: Brady Quinn says he's prepared to step in if needed. Right now, Derek Anderson is the starting QB for the Browns, so Quinn will have to wait his turn. "You have to be ready as the backup quarterback," he said. "You stay after practice to get extra reps and extra throws and go through the script again a second time so you make sure you're going through the physical motion of it, and not just the mental, before and during practice."
Analysis: Quinn is worth a look in long-term keeper formats at this point only.
News: TE Darnell Dinkins, TE Steve Heiden, QB Brady Quinn and FB Lawrence Vickers all suited up and got onto the field in Week 3 at Oakland, but no one recorded any offensive statistics.
Analysis: None of the aforementioned players are worthy of Fantasy consideration heading into Week 4 against the Ravens in a difficult matchup. However, Quinn is worth a look in long-term keeper formats.
News: Cleveland QB Ken Dorsey was named among the inactives for the Browns game vs. Cincinnati, which means Brady Quinn is now officially the No. 2 QB.
Analysis: Dorsey is a serviceable third QB on most teams, but shouldn't be considered in any Fantasy format at this time. Quinn, meanwhile, has a great chance of starting soon for the Browns and will be a solid No. 3 Fantasy option at the position if he does rise to the No. 1 spot, even if the Cleveland offense is pretty inept.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye, benched before halftime in the season opener, was traded to Seattle for an undisclosed draft pick on Tuesday, a stunningly swift move as Cleveland clears the way for rookie Brady Quinn. When might that happen? The team hasn't said anything yet, but the club has signed QB Ken Dorsey, who will tutor Quinn in the club's offensive scheme. Meanwhile, veteran Derek Anderson will start for the Browns until Quinn is ready, including vs. Cincinnati in Week 2. "By making Brady the backup, it obviously ramps up his preparation in terms of the number of reps and keeping him on course with an opportunity to play at some point during this year," GM Phil Savage said.
Analysis: Fantasy owners shouldn't expect to start any Browns QB at any point this season. However, Quinn's preseason play does offer a glimmer of hope that he can produce decent stats, especially for a team that falls behind as often as the Browns do. For now, Anderson and Quinn are both No. 3 Fantasy QBs. Dorsey is not expected to play this season.
News: WTAM-AM in Cleveland is reporting that the Browns are actively trying to shop QB Charlie Frye, and that if they don't find any takers, they will cut him. The club is trying to make room for Ken Dorsey, who would serve as a mentor to Brady Quinn. Dorsey was at the team's training facility on Monday, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The Falcons are rumored to be a potential trade partner, but we speculate that the Giants, Jets and Jaguars could also be interested considering their QB issues.
Analysis: This is a heck of a rumor considering that he started the Browns' last game! We expect the Browns to give the starting job to Derek Anderson next week and eventually hand the reins over to rookie Brady Quinn. At this point, no Browns QB is worth owning in standard Fantasy play, although one could make the case that Quinn is worth a flier in deep-roster leagues since his time is certainly coming. We'll continue to monitor the Browns' QB situation and deliver the news as it happens.
News: Coach Romeo Crennel didn't want to do damage to rookie QB Brady Quinn by putting him in Sunday against Pittsburgh in a 34-7 loss. "I didn't play him because he's a kid and the game was out of reach," Crennel said in the Plain Dealer. "What am I supposed to do? Put him in the game and throw him to the dogs? That wouldn't be fair to him. It wouldn't be good for him." Quinn served as the emergency third QB in the game. If he had gone in, starter Charlie Frye and backup Derek Anderson would have been ineligible to return.
Analysis: Crennel was noncommittal after the game about his starter for next week against the Bengals. It's unlikely Quinn would start even with Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson struggling against the Steelers. Keep Quinn reserved in all leagues.
News: The Browns listed QB Brady Quinn (3rd QB), DB Gary Baxter, RB Charles Ali, WR Travis Wilson and LB Willie McGinest.
Analysis: Brady Quinn and Willie McGinest are worth owning in Fantasy play, the rest should be left on the waiver wire for now. Reserve all of these players until further notice.
News: Browns head coach Romeo Crennel benched starting quarterback Charlie Frye in the first half of Week 1 vs. Pittsburgh. Frye went 4-for-10 for 34 yards, threw an interception and held the ball way too long while being chased by the Steelers. Derek Anderson came in and didn't do much better, but he did throw a 1-yard TD pass to Lawrence Vickers to avoid the shutout. And while their team was being dismantled, Browns fans periodically broke into chants for rookie Brady Quinn, who was designated the team's No. 3 quarterback but could soon be elevated to No. 1.
Analysis: Right now, the only Browns Fantasy QB worth owning in is actually their third-string guy, Brady Quinn. He is the only one with any upside, albeit minimal in his rookie year. He's a solid keeper league addition and could find himself in a starting role soon if Frye continues to struggle. Who knows who will start in Week 2 for the Browns, but what we do know is that he'd better not be starting on your Fantasy team, whoever it is.
News: The Canton Repository reports that Browns coach Romeo Crennel told his team after their last preseason game that Charlie Frye will be their starting QB heading into the regular season. "Charlie is our quarterback," veteran wideout Joe Jurevicius said. Brady Quinn played quite a bit in the team's preseason finale at Chicago, completing 9-of-14 passes for 64 yards with an interception and a full quarter of play without producing a first down. There is no indication who Cleveland's backup QB will be.
Analysis: Quinn was 29-of-45 with 300 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in three preseason games, after reporting late to training camp because of a holdout. Now the pressure is off for him to play well at the start of the season. He is only useful as a reserve and long-term keeper prospect in deeper Fantasy leagues now that he won't be starting.
News: Brady Quinn says he's ready to make an impact for the Cleveland Browns and he did in the preseason finale. When his next opportunity comes remains to be seen. The rookie from Notre Dame was efficient, if unspectacular, leading the Browns to a touchdown in a 19-9 victory over the Chicago Bears on Thursday night. Now, it's up to coach Romeo Crennel to decide if Quinn's time is sooner or later.
Analysis: Quinn was 29-of-45 with 300 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in three preseason games, after reporting late to training camp because of a holdout. "I think I progressed," Quinn said. "I think things went well not only for myself, but for our team, our offense. We did a lot good things this preseason." He is worth a late-round selection on Draft Day just in case he is given the nod. If not, he is only useful as a reserve and long-term keeper prospect in deeper Fantasy leagues.
News: Browns rookie quarterback Brady Quinn will not be the team's starter Sept. 9 against the Steelers, according to the team's general manager Phil Savage. "It's unrealistic for Brady to be in the mix for the opener," Savage told Ohio's News-Herald after the first quarter of the Browns' 17-16 win over the Denver Broncos. Quinn completed seven of 11 passes for 81 yards and one touchdown.
Analysis: Quinn may not start in the season opener, but the door is wide open for him to eventually pick up some starts later in the year, especially once the Browns fall out of early contention for the AFC North title. Nevertheless, consider Quinn a middle-round selection in rookie drafts, but don't plan on him helping you this season in regular Fantasy leagues.
News: Maybe in the regular season the red flag will come out. Preseason games don't count and neither do touchdowns that are erroneously ruled incompletions, as Brady Quinn discovered Saturday night. Quinn was efficient and effective for the second straight game, leading the Cleveland Browns past the Denver Broncos 17-16, although it probably wasn't enough to win him the starting job over Charlie Frye. Quinn threw a pass in the left flat that Joshua Cribbs turned into a nifty 20-yard touchdown to break a 10-10 tie in the third quarter, but the rookie from Notre Dame was robbed of another apparent TD toss on Cleveland's previous possession. Although Joe Jurevicius hauled in Quinn's perfectly thrown 39-yard pass over Dre' Bly in the end zone, the nearest official ruled he didn't get both feet down before going out of bounds. Replays showed otherwise, but Cleveland coach Romeo Crennel didn't challenge the call.
Analysis: Quinn, whose TD to Cribbs came against backups, completed 7-of-11 passes for 81 yards. Frye started and went 5-of-7 for 68 yards and Derek Anderson was 7-of-9 for 74 yards. "All three quarterbacks played pretty decent tonight," said Crennel, who wouldn't let on who was the leader in the starting QB derby. Crennel has said he might not name a starting quarterback until the week before the Sept. 9 opener. Although conventional wisdom is he'll start off the season carrying a clipboard, Quinn has done his best to earn the nod. After missing 11 days in a contract holdout, Quinn is 20-of-31 for 236 yards with three TDs (that counted) and no interceptions, albeit mostly against backups. Consider Quinn a middle-round selection in rookie drafts but don't plan on him helping you this season in regular Fantasy leagues.
News: According to the Canton Repository, Browns General Manager Phil Savage said Thursday that QB Brady Quinn will not be the starter for the season-opener. "To think that Brady Quinn would be ready for the first game would be very unrealistic," Savage said. "We have two tracks going. One track is to be competitive, to win as much as we can as soon as we can. The other track is to develop our quarterback of the future in the right way."
Analysis: This is what we expected all along. Consider Quinn a middle-round selection in rookie drafts but don't plan on him helping you this season in regular Fantasy leagues.
News: Brady Quinn's strong debut wasn't enough for him to muscle into Cleveland's quarterback competition yet. Quinn shined in his NFL introduction, leading the Browns on two long touchdown drives in the final 9:20 of a 23-20 loss to Detroit. Although he impressed Browns coach Romeo Crennel, Quinn will follow Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson onto the field for Saturday's game at Denver. Crennel has added that he may delay naming his team's starter until the week before his club's Sept. 9 season opener against the Steelers. He has narrowed his choice to two candidates: Charlie Frye and a mystery man. "It's Charlie ... and Yes," teased Crennel, who has Derek Anderson, Brady Quinn and Ken Dorsey to choose from. "Who's the other one?" he was asked. "Who do you want it to be?" Crennel said with a laugh. "Brady," a reporter said. "If you want it to be that, then it can be that for you," Crennel said.
Analysis: It appears that the Browns want to bring Quinn along slowly, which is understandable since he is their QB of the future. Keep tabs on him this preseason, but don't chase him down in any seasonal league. However, he's worth a middle- to late-round pick in keeper leagues and a top-20 pick in rookie-only drafts.

Although he impressed Browns coach Romeo Crennel, Quinn will follow Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson onto the field for Saturday's game at Denver. Charlie Frye will start against the Broncos in Cleveland's third exhibition, a preseason game most teams view as a dress rehearsal for the regular season. Crennel said Anderson will be Frye's backup, perhaps a signal that Frye has taken the lead in the battle to be the Browns' starter for the Sept. 9 season opener against Pittsburgh. "We're going to keep working with him and bringing him along," Crennel said. "He showed enough poise and execution in the game to feel good about, but he still needs work. He still has work to do and we're not going to rush him in just because he looked good at the end of a game."

News: With flashbulbs popping, Cleveland's rookie quarterback tossed two fourth-quarter TD passes in his first NFL preseason game and looked better than any Browns QB in a 23-20 loss to Detroit. Quinn's performance -- 13-of-20 for 155 yards in the final 9:20 -- might muddle Cleveland's QB derby between Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson, who were both booed by Browns fans. Asked if Quinn is now in the mix to be his starter, Browns coach Romeo Crennel didn't say no. "I think you've got to give the young man credit," Crennel said. "Their best guys weren't in there but our best guys weren't in there either. I'll look at the tape and we'll decide. He's still a young quarterback and he had a limited offense and I believe in time that he's going to be a good quarterback. But the reason he didn't play more tonight was that he wasn't ready. I've said all along we'll see what the kid can do and when he gets a better grasp of the offense we'll ask him to do more."
Analysis: Quinn hit Chris Barclay on a screen pass that went for 30 yards on his first play (most of it was Barclay's doing). Quinn completed five passes in a row before his first miss. On second-and-3 at Detroit's 4, he calmly rolled to his right and drilled a TD pass to rookie Efrem Hill, who got open near the sideline. The next time Cleveland got the ball, Quinn drove the Browns 92 yards in 1:52, hitting Jerome Harrison with a 6-yard TD pass with 18 seconds left. Expect Quinn to get a chance to work with the first- and second-string offense in Cleveland, and if he shines there, he could earn playing time sooner than expected. Keep expectations in check for now. He's barely worth drafting in a seasonal league, but he's worth a middle- to late-round pick in keeper leagues and a top-20 pick in rookie-only drafts.
News: Brady Quinn, the high-profile rookie who stayed on the sideline in Cleveland's exhibition opener last week, is expected to make his NFL debut -- probably a brief one -- on Saturday night for the Browns, whose quarterback competition is nearing a conclusion without him even in the conversation or debate. Quinn will likely get his first action late against the Detroit Lions. "I might give him a few snaps in the fourth quarter to see what he can do," was all coach Romeo Crennel would say.
Analysis: Cleveland's starting QB job belongs to either Charlie Frye or Derek Anderson, and whomever doesn't start will probably back up the starter, leaving Quinn as the No. 3/emergency QB this season. Thus, in seasonal leagues, he shouldn't be drafted. Quinn doesn't have all the physical tools you want in a passer, but he has a very quick release and is a quick mover around and out of the pocket. He's also bright enough to pick up an NFL offense sooner than later. That's why he's worth a middle- to late-round pick in keeper leagues and a top-20 pick in rookie-only drafts. Quinn should be starting for the Browns in 2008.
News: Following his first training camp practice in public view on Monday, Browns rookie QB Brady Quinn was swarmed by Cleveland fans, who have been eager for their first on-field glimpse of the former Notre Dame star. It was the first time fans have gotten a good, long look at Quinn, who missed the first 12 days of camp in a holdout. Quinn vowed after signing his five-year, $20.2 million deal that he would reach out to Browns fans, some of whom were critical of him for not reporting on time. While Quinn was holding court - surrounded by security personnel - at one side of the field, Browns coach Romeo Crennel was on the other weighing in on his starting QB competition between Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson. Crennel said he has not yet decided who will start against the Lions, and he has no timetable on choosing a starter for the Sept. 9 opener against Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Quinn did not see any action against the Chiefs, and Crennel said the 22-year-old will get some reps in practice this week but wouldn't say how much time he might get against the Lions. Crennel plans to use both Frye and Anderson in the second half, as well as Ken Dorsey, currently listed as Cleveland's No. 3 QB ahead of Quinn. Quinn should not be drafted in most seasonal leagues, and consider him a middle-round selection in rookie drafts.
News: The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Browns rookie QB Brady Quinn is expected to see a lot of work in practice this week in preparation for extended playing time vs. Detroit in the club's second preseason game on Aug. 18.
Analysis: Quinn, a first-round draft pick, missed 12 days of training camp in a contract holdout before signing a five-year, $20 million contract. Quinn's absence probably cost him any chance of starting the season opener, but unless Frye or Anderson step up, it may not be long before the former Notre Dame star is calling signals. For now, Quinn is listed behind Frye, Anderson and even Ken Dorsey on the Browns depth chart, which could undergo several revisions in the months ahead. Brady should not be drafted in most seasonal leagues, and consider him a middle-round selection in rookie drafts.
News: The coin flipped in Charlie Frye's favor, and the rest of the night went his way, too. Frye played better than Derek Anderson in their competition to become Cleveland's starting quarterback and the Browns got a late kickoff return for a TD in a 16-12 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday. Rookie Brady Quinn stood with a clipboard and studied his Cleveland playbook during his first NFL preseason game, watching as Frye and Anderson duked it out for a job the former Notre Dame star hopes to someday own.
Analysis: Quinn, a first-round draft pick, missed 12 days of training camp in a contract holdout before signing a five-year, $20 million contract on Wednesday. Quinn's absence probably cost him any chance of starting the Sept. 9 season opener against Pittsburgh, but unless Frye or Anderson steps up, it may not be long before the former Notre Dame star is calling signals. For now, Quinn is listed behind Frye, Anderson and even Ken Dorsey on the Browns depth chart, which could undergo several revisions in the months ahead. Brady should not be drafted in most seasonal leagues, and consider him a middle-round selection in rookie drafts.
News: Browns rookie QB Brady Quinn's first two practices have gone smoothly. On Thursday, Quinn worked primarily with the scout team in his second practice with the Browns. Listed fourth on Cleveland's depth chart, Quinn made a few nice throws during the two-hour practice that had to be moved into the Browns' indoor fieldhouse because of heavy storms that rumbled through the area. Hundreds of Browns fans, many eager to finally see Quinn at work, were turned away at the gates as thunder boomed and lightning streaked across the suburban sky. They missed seeing Quinn zip a touchdown pass into the right corner against Cleveland's first-team defense to backup tight end Buck Ortega, who got past rookie cornerback Eric Wright. Later, Quinn overthrew wide-open receiver Mike Mason on a deep route.
Analysis: All in all, Quinn has been pleased with his throwing. "I've never felt stronger, or better, coming into something," said Quinn, who worked out in Arizona while negotiations between his agent and the Browns sputtered. "Everything feels alive. I can't tell you how excited I am just to get in." Quinn is expected to be the third option at QB for the Browns. Charlie Frye will probably start and Derek Anderson will be the backup. He should not be drafted in most seasonal leagues, and consider Quinn a middle-round selection in rookie drafts.
News: Browns QB Brady Quinn is confident he'll be starting at some point during his first season as a pro after signing his contract Tuesday. Quinn worked out in Arizona while the sides haggled over guaranteed money and salary escalators in the final years of the incentive-filled package. He can earn a maximum of $30 million if he becomes the franchise QB the Browns have longed for. Quinn missed the team's four-day rookie orientation program and then 16 practices before finally getting a call from agent Tom Condon, who told him to pack his bags and get on the next flight to Cleveland. Quinn's first public appearance will be Thursday when every one of his passes will be compared to ones thrown by Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson, neither of whom has separated from the other so far at camp.
Analysis: Quinn is expected to be the third option at QB for the Browns. Frye will probably start and Anderson will be the backup. He should not be drafted in most seasonal leagues, and consider Quinn a middle-round selection in rookie drafts.
News: QB Brady Quinn has agreed to a five-year contract with the Browns, ending an 11-day holdout that essentially eliminated his chances to begin the season as the team's starter. Quinn was flying to the Browns' headquarters Tuesday to sign the deal. The deal, worth $20.2 million, with $7.75 million guaranteed, could reach $30 million over five years with incentives. Quinn's absence has all but ensured he will not win the Browns' starting job, which has become a two-man contest between Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson.
Analysis: This is good news for Quinn and the Browns, but don't expect him to help your Fantasy team much. He will probably only play this season if the Browns are not in the playoff hunt and are looking for the future. Consider him a middle-round selection in rookie drafts.
News: Brady Quinn and the Cleveland Browns agree on a few things. Not enough, though, to get the rookie quarterback's signature on a five-year contract and into training camp. Following substantive talks over the weekend, the sides are less than a million dollars apart in guaranteed money for Quinn, one of only three first-round picks still holding out in contract disputes. The major sticking point in negotiations between the Browns and agent Tom Condon are escalator clauses based on playing time for Quinn, who slid to No. 22 in April's draft after being projected as a top 10 selection.
Analysis: Quinn, meanwhile, missed his 11th day of camp on Monday. He's working out in Arizona while Condon works on his deal. While he waits, the former four-year starter at Notre Dame has been in touch with his college coach. "I talk to him probably every other day, and he's doing fine," Fighting Irish coach Charlie Weis said. "He's anxious. He wants to be in there. I think everyone wants that to get done, and hopefully it'll get it done sooner rather than later." Quinn's absence has ensured he will not win the Browns' starting job, which has become a two-man fight between Derek Anderson and Charlie Frye. He is only worth a look in long-term keeper Fantasy leagues at this point.
News: According to The Plain Dealer, the Browns have made some progress in negotiations for QB Brady Quinn and are now only about $500,000 apart in guaranteed money. However, there are other issues holding up the deal, including the triggers for the incentive package. The No. 22 overall pick, Quinn is seeking about $8 million in guaranteed money, same as the No. 20 overall pick, and the Browns have increased their guaranteed offer to about $7.5 million. Browns General Manager Phil Savage said Friday he was willing to pay a QB premium above the No. 22 slot to get Quinn into camp. Originally, they offered the same guarantee as the No. 21 pick, who received $7.1 million.
Analysis: Expect Quinn to be in camp soon, but don't expect him to help your Fantasy team much. He will probably only play this season if the Browns are not in the playoff hunt and are looking for the future.
News: Brady Quinn fell in the NFL draft. Now he's falling out of favor with the Cleveland Browns. The rookie quarterback's contract holdout dragged into its second week on Friday as Quinn missed his eighth day of training camp with no end in sight. For now, he's in Arizona working out while negotiations continue. Meanwhile, Browns general manager Phil Savage expressed disappointment at not being able to finalize a deal with agent Tom Condon. Savage said he "talked briefly" with Quinn's representatives on Friday, but didn't seem optimistic about a contract being completed anytime soon.
Analysis: Quinn had been projected as a top 10 pick, but when he slipped deeper into the first round, the Browns traded a 2008 first-round pick to Dallas and selected the former Notre Dame quarterback at No. 22. The Browns don't think Quinn should be paid more money than the 22nd pick deserves. Their argument is that Quinn was taken where he was for a reason and that they shouldn't have to pay a premium for him. "If you're not going to rank the players one through 22, or one through 32, then there's no reason to have a draft," Savage said. "We should just have free agency for college players. The draft is the structure that was set up so that there would be some order to it." The more Quinn sits out during training camp, the less chance he has of playing this season. He's only worth a look with a late-round pick in keeper leagues and an early- to middle-round choice in rookie-only drafts.
News: Browns rookie quarterback Brady Quinn missed his fourth day of training camp Monday in a contract holdout that shows no signs of ending anytime soon for the first-round draft pick. Quinn, who figures to compete for the starting job with Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson, has missed six practices so far. Browns general manager Phil Savage has been in negotiations with Quinn's agent, Tom Condon, but the team said there was nothing new to report. "I'm glad we've got the other guys out there," Savage said. "If anything, it's given Charlie and Derek the chance to get more reps, and that's a positive."
Analysis: Savage characterized talks with Condon as "in the same neighborhood, but not on the same street." Quinn will probably start the season on the bench but eventually be inserted into the starting lineup at some point. He's only worth a look with a late-round pick in keeper leagues and an early- to middle-round choice in rookie-only drafts.
News: Offensive tackle Joe Thomas agreed to terms on a six-year contract with the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night, ensuring the No. 3 overall pick will be at the opening of training camp. The club also reached agreement on a four-year deal with cornerback Eric Wright, a second-round pick, leaving quarterback Brady Quinn as the team's only unsigned draft pick.
Analysis: Now that the Browns have Thomas and Wright signed, they can turn their full attention to Quinn, whose contract situation is a tricky one. The Notre Dame QB slid through the first round before he was picked by the Browns, who traded a first-round pick in 2008 to Dallas to move into the No. 22 spot to get Quinn. However, Quinn's agent, Tom Condon, who was in Cleveland for face-to-face talks with general manager Phil Savage last weekend, could be asking for his client to get paid like a Top 10 pick. It looks like the Browns' QB race will be between Derek Anderson and Charlie Frye, not Frye and Quinn. He's only worth a look with a late-round pick in keeper leagues and an early- to middle-round choice in rookie-only drafts.
News: The Akron Beacon Journal speculates that the Browns could name veteran QB Derek Anderson their starter for the 2007 season, not Charlie Frye or rookie Brady Quinn. Apparently, Anderson has looked the best in minicamp and could have the edge on the starting job, according to team sources. The Browns are running a new offense this season, which has stumped Quinn thus far and has left Frye a little behind.
Analysis: It looks like the Browns' QB race will be between Anderson and Frye, not Frye and Quinn. Either way, neither Anderson nor Frye will be worth checking out as anything more than a No. 3 Fantasy QB in 2007 league play. As for Quinn, he's only worth a look with a late-round pick in keeper leagues and an early- to middle-round choice in rookie-only drafts.
News: Browns rookie quarterback Brady Quinn is too busy learning a new playbook and offensive system, and getting familiar with his teammates to worry about the possibility of a holdout when training camp starts in July. Quinn, talking Tuesday after the morning practice of minicamp two-a-days, said he has yet to discuss contract negotiations with his agent, Tom Condon. "At this point, I really haven't played the scenario out in my head," he said. "I'm just trying to take it day by day. Especially in a situation where it's so competitive, I can't look ahead toward things. We've still got practices. And they're all very competitive."
Analysis: Quinn is competing for the starting spot with Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson, both of whom started multiple games in 2006. A holdout would be a significant setback for Quinn, especially in the eyes of coach Romeo Crennel, who's open about his preference for experience. Quinn has also struggled through the first few minicamps he's participated in. He will probably start the season on the bench but eventually be inserted into the starting lineup at some point. He is only worth drafting this season in keeper Fantasy leagues.
News: According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Brownd coach Romeo Crennel said Tuesday he's not worried about rookie Brady Quinn's early misfires in organized team activities. "It's not a concern yet," Crennel said. "In September, it'll be a concern if they're not on target, but right now, he's still learning the system, learning the defense and learning the receivers he's trying to throw to." Crennel said Quinn "is a willing student and he'll be OK."
Analysis: Last week, on the first day of OTAs, Quinn threw three interceptions in the early part of practice and then settled down. This week, he was picked off early by Therrian Fontenot, completed a few short passes and was the victim of a couple of drops, including one by Braylon Edwards. Expect Quinn to continue to learn as the offseason continues. He will probably start the season on the bench but eventually be inserted into the starting lineup at some point. He is only worth drafting this season in keeper Fantasy leagues.
News: As far as Charlie Frye is concerned, he's the Cleveland Browns' No. 1 QB. Frye began battling rookie Brady Quinn, Derek Anderson and Ken Dorsey for the starting job Tuesday as the Browns kicked off three weeks of organized-team-activity practices, the first full-team workouts in preparation for the 2007 season. Frye spent an extra 40 minutes after practice working with the other QBs, then walked off the field and stated without hesitation that he expects to be under center when the Browns open on Sept. 9 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. "I really can't predict the future, but I'm preparing like I'm the starter," Frye said. "I never knew I lost it."
Analysis: Frye and Quinn both showed they need a lot of work during the practice, which was open to the media for the first time because of access policies put in place by the NFL this season. Quinn looked shaky as he was picked off by fellow rookie Eric Wright, who made a diving interception. Two plays later, Quinn made a weak throw toward the sideline and was intercepted by linebacker Matt Stewart. "As usual, the first day was not very pretty," said Browns coach Romeo Crennel, who called the practice "ragged." Expect Quinn to start the season on the bench but eventually be inserted into the starting lineup at some point. He is only worth drafting this season in keeper Fantasy leagues.
News: According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, new Browns QB Brady Quinn threw consecutive balls into a brisk wind that could be described charitably as wounded ducks. Each ball looked to hit a brick wall in midair and plummet, one far short of the intended and uncovered receiver. Quinn compensated on the next pass and overthrew a receiver.
Analysis: It will probably be a struggle for Quinn early on, but give him time. See how he does in training camp if you have time before your Fantasy draft, otherwise consider him a middle-round pick in keeper leagues.
News: Wearing his familiar No. 10, and a shiny orange helmet he had dreamed of buckling on since he was a kid, Quinn practiced for the first time as a pro quarterback as the Browns began a three-day camp for their draft picks and free agents. The 6-foot-3, 232-pounder made some crisp, short throws. He also had a few wobblers, one bad one that caught in the wind and flattened. "It's been awhile," he said. "There's always room for improvement."
Analysis: Quinn is expected to compete for the starting QB job with Charlie Frye. He doesn't have all the physical tools you want in a passer, but he has a very quick release and is a quick mover around and out of the pocket. He's also bright enough to pick up an NFL offense sooner than later. Unless he plays dynamite preseason football, he'll wind up spending most of his first year on the sidelines. That being said, expect him to not be picked in most seasonal Fantasy drafts. However, in keeper-league play the notion is that he will be a solid NFL passer who will put up some nice numbers over his career, particularly when the Browns solidify their receiving corps. Thus, take him with a middle-round pick in keeper leagues.
News: Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn was the last rookie in New York to get drafted, but he wound up going to Cleveland when they moved up from the second round in a trade with Dallas. Quinn doesn't have all the physical tools you want in a passer, but he has a very quick release and is a quick mover around and out of the pocket. He's also bright enough to pick up an NFL offense sooner than later. What probably helps Quinn's cause is that he's going to a team coached by Romeo Crennel, who used to work with and is friendly with Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis.
Analysis: Quinn is expected to compete for the starting QB job with Charlie Frye. Unless he plays dynamite football in the preseason, he'll wind up spending most of his first year from the sidelines. That being said, expect him to not be picked in most seasonal Fantasy drafts.
