News: The Jaguars placed LB Matt Roth (concussion) on injured reserve on Monday. Roth will miss the last week of the season.
Analysis: Roth has been out since getting injured Week 11 at Cleveland. Roth finished the season with 3 1/2 sacks, but had no real Fantasy value in IDP formats. He can continue to be ignored now that his season is over.
News: Jaguars DE Matt Roth sustained a blow to the head in the second half against the Browns in Week 11 and did not return. He was replaced in the lineup by John Chick. Roth had two solo tackles in the game.
Analysis: Roth opened the year with a sack in two straight games, but he has since managed just one in his last eight games. Roth is playing more as a down lineman with the Jags after playing as an outside LB last year in a 3-4 scheme with Cleveland. It's the reason why his numbers have dropped dramatically. Roth has low-end Fantasy appeal when healthy.
News: ESPN reports that the Jaguars agreed to a one-year deal with free-agent LB Matt Roth. The deal is reportedly worth $3 million. Roth managed 3 1/2 sacks in 16 games last season with the Browns. In Jacksonville, he could be moved to the defensive line as the Jaguars' defensive scheme would call for.
Analysis: Regardless, while he may be good for a handful of sacks once again in 2011, he remains little more than a late-round selection in IDP leagues. He is coming off a career-high 86 tackles, but would not be in line for nearly that many on the defensive line.
News: Pass-rushing linebacker Matt Roth is talking like he won't return to the Browns. Roth, a free agent when the offseason starts, knows that with the team going to a 4-3 scheme, he's an round peg in a square hole. "Right now I kind of like the 3-4 [defensive system]," Roth told the Cleveland Plain Dealer "I feel the Browns are on the right track. But going into my seventh season, I want to play for a winner. I do feel the Browns are right there. They've done a good job. I'm not sure what's going to happen."
Analysis: Speculation is that Roth will follow defensive coordinator Rob Ryan to Dallas and work in the Cowboys' 3-4 scheme. Assuming Ryan keeps his system the same (why wouldn't he?), Roth would be a good fit. You might want to consider grabbing him with a late-round pick, specifically in leagues that do not heavily reward tackles.
News: After registering half a sack in Week 11, Browns LB Matt Roth got a full sack in Week 12 against Carolina. He also made seven tackles.
Analysis: Roth has had a few good games this year, but his production overall is too sparse to trust in Fantasy. He can be ignored in IDP formats.
News: Cleveland linebacker Matt Roth, who has been quiet from a statistics standpoint this season, tallied five combined tackles and a half sack against Jacksonville during a loss in Week 11.
Analysis: The days of Roth being a defensive force seem to be dwindling as Sunday was the first time he's reached the quarterback since Week 4 against Cincinnati. He's barely worth a Fantasy play in IDP leagues.
News: Linebacker Matt Roth has signed his restricted free agent tender, ensuring that he will play with the Browns in 2010. Roth had held out of offseason practices hoping for a longer deal and even asked to be traded at one point because the Browns were reluctant to give him an extension.
Analysis: Roth is expected to retain a starting spot in the Browns defense as a pass rusher. While that might net him a decent amount of sacks, it limits his tackle totals, not to mention other stats he might accrue. As such, he's not worth drafting except late in the deepest of IDP leagues this summer.
News: The Cleveland Plain-Dealer reports Browns LB Matt Roth asked to be traded on Monday, but GM Tom Heckert said "it's not going to happen." Heckert viewed Roth's trade request as part of the negotiating process. Roth received a second-round tender from the Browns worth $1.809 million. He has until June 15 to sign it or risk having the Browns reduce the offer. "It's really not a big deal right now," said Heckert. "First of all, it's not going to happen. It's like that with everybody. Normally when guys aren't happy with their contracts, the first thing that comes out of their mouths is, 'give me a new deal or trade me.' It's not the first time we heard it and it's not going to be the last. It's part of it and we'll deal with it when the time comes."
Analysis: Roth was claimed by the Browns via waivers Nov. 25 from Miami and played the final six games in Cleveland. He made an immediate impact as a pass-rush threat, finishing tied for third on the team with four sacks. Plan on Roth staying with the Browns this season. He is worth a late-round pick in deep IDP leagues this year.
News: Browns LB Matt Roth has asked for a trade according to ESPN while staying away from the team's offseason activities. Roth is currently a restricted free agent tendered at the second-round level, and like many of his teammates is not expected to show for an upcoming minicamp. The Browns will have the option to lower their tender to Roth if he doesn't sign by June 15 -- they could limit his 2010 salary to 110 percent of his 2009 pay, a difference of just over $1 million. "It's definitely an option we have discussed," GM Tom Heckert told the Cleveland Plain Dealer, referring to all of the Browns' holdouts. "But nobody wants to go down that road because it brings bad blood. At the same time, we want the guys in here. I've talked to most of the [RFAs], or their agents. We're not in negotiations with any of them. But to say we won't do an extension, that's not the case, either. We want guys in and then we'll see what happens. We hope it doesn't get to June 15."
Analysis: Roth has some upside and is worth a late-round flier in IDP play, so long as he signs before too long. He's especially valuable in leagues where sacks count big and tackles don't, and that's so long as he's starting.
News: The Cleveland Browns gave second-round tenders to six restricted free agents including LB Matt Roth. He can sign offer sheets with other teams, but the Browns would have seven days to match the offer or they'll receive a second-round draft pick as compensation. Roth was a late-season boon for the Browns after his release from the Dolphins, garnering four sacks with the Browns in five games.
Analysis: Roth has some upside and is worth a late-round flier in IDP play.
News: In the Browns' Week 15 win at the Chiefs, notable defensive players included LB Matt Roth (four total tackles, sack), DL Corey Williams (three solo tackles, forced fumble) and DB Eric Wright (eight total tackles).
Analysis: Only Roth and Wright deserve some attention in IDP league play, especially against the Raiders in Week 16.
News: The Cleveland Browns have been awarded linebacker Matt Roth off waivers from Miami. Picked by the Dolphins in the second round in 2005, Roth made 23 starts in five seasons for Miami. He recorded 158 tackles and 12 1/2 sacks in 64 games. After moving from defensive end to linebacker, Roth had five sacks, 53 tackles and two forced fumbles last season. Roth was a first-team All-Big Ten selection at Iowa. He had two tackles in three games this season.
Analysis: Roth will fit in with the Browns defense sooner than later and might contribute some plays later in the year. But he's not expected to help Fantasy owners much for the rest of the year.
News: Linebacker Matt Roth was released Tuesday by the Miami Dolphins, a move that came a week after coach Tony Sparano lauded his work off the bench. The Dolphins also signed cornerback Evan Oglesby and defensive end Ikeaika Alama-Francis. Defensive tackle Jason Ferguson was placed on injured reserve with a season-ending leg injury, and safety Nate Ness was released. Ferguson was injured in last week's win over Carolina.
Analysis: Roth missed training camp and the season's first five games with a groin injury, then compiled four tackles in Miami's last four games. Still, Sparano said Roth was "really impressive" in a 25-23 win over Tampa Bay on Nov. 15. Roth had his best season last year, moving from end to linebacker. He since lost his starting role to Jason Taylor. Oglesby has spent time with Baltimore and Dallas. Alma-Francis was a second-round pick by Detroit in 2007. None of the players listed above has any Fantasy value at this time. Keep them off rosters.
News: The Miami Dolphins activated linebacker Matt Roth from the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list and released tight end John Nalbone. Roth was placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list on September 5, 2009 and has missed the first six games of the 2009 season.
Analysis: Neither Roth nor Nalbone have any Fantasy value at this time. Leave them both on waivers in all Fantasy leagues.
News: Dolphins LB Matt Roth was back on the sideline again Thursday, this time with a left ankle injury. Roth hurt himself practicing for the first time this season Wednesday. He said the latest injury is not serious, but it rules out his chances of playing Sunday against unbeaten New Orleans. "It's just a little bump in the road," said Roth, who hopes to miss only a day or two of practice. "It's a little setback," coach Tony Sparano said, "but just a little one." Roth sat out all of training camp and Miami's first five games because of a groin injury.
Analysis: Keep an eye on what happens with Roth going forward, but he has minimal Fantasy value while injured and is not worth owning in IDP leagues.
News: Dolphins linebacker Matt Roth has returned to practice after missing the first five games of the season because of a groin injury. Roth joined Wednesday's workout in preparation for Sunday's game against the Saints. It's uncertain whether he'll be activated this week. Roth had been sidelined since the start of training camp and spent the first six weeks of the regular season on the reserve-non-football injury list. He returns as a reserve after losing his starting job to Jason Taylor.
Analysis: Roth won't see a ton of reps at first but might develop into a situational pass rusher. He should only be considered in the deepest of IDP leagues at this point.
News: LB Matt Roth remained sidelined, his six weeks on the reserve-non-football injury list not yet officially over. The Dolphins are off Tuesday, so Roth won't be able to practice before Wednesday. He missed all of training camp with a groin injury.
Analysis: Roth might not play this year. Keep him off of Fantasy rosters.
News: Linebacker Matt Roth said Wednesday he is healthy and ready to resume practice after the Miami Dolphins' next game. Roth has been sidelined by a groin injury since the start of training camp. He is on the reserve-non-football injury list and said he has been told he'll be back at practice after the Dolphins' game against New Orleans on Oct. 25. "I'll be ready to knock heads off," he said. "I can't wait." Roth will return as a reserve after losing his starting job to six-time Pro Bowl selection Jason Taylor.
Analysis: Roth will not be worth picking up in Fantasy until he proves his value on the playing field on Sundays.
News: Linebacker Matt Roth said Wednesday he is healthy and ready to resume practice after the Miami Dolphins' next game. Roth has been sidelined by a groin injury since the start of training camp. Analysis: Roth will not be worth picking up in Fantasy until he proves his value on the playing field on Sundays.
News: The Dolphins placed defensive end Matt Roth on the reserved/non-football injury list Saturday. Roth has missed the entire preseason because of injury. By placing him on the non-football list, the Dolphins could only use him after the sixth game of the season.
Analysis: It is believed that Roth has a groin issue that has caused him some trouble. He's useless to Fantasy owners for now.
News: Miami Dolphins linebacker Matt Roth remains sidelined by a groin injury, and the team is prepared to start the regular season without him, coach Tony Sparano says. Roth has yet to practice since training camp began Aug. 2. "You know, 27, 28 practices have gone by," Sparano said Thursday. "Obviously you're hoping on one hand, but from the other standpoint, I have to keep going on. I don't know when this thing's going to get right, so I have to go on like it isn't going to get right at this time, and try to prepare the team accordingly." Jason Taylor, who rejoined the Dolphins this year after one season in Washington, moved into to Roth's spot on the strong side and has won raves for his play during camp.
Analysis: Roth, who enjoyed his best season last year, has been limited to individual conditioning drills. He totaled 53 tackles and five sacks last season. When healthy, Roth passes as a low-end Fantasy option. But he is clearly a risky pick now that his status for the opener is in jeopardy.
News: Dolphins LB Matt Roth missed Monday's preseason opener against Jacksonville. He has been out since the start of training camp with a groin injury.
Analysis: Roth enjoyed his best season last year, when he moved from end to outside linebacker and started 14 games. Roth is a low-end DL in deeper IDP leagues. He will compete with Jason Taylor for playing time, but the longer Roth remains out, the worse it will be for his value this season.
News: Dolphins LB Matt Roth continues to deal with his mysterious illness and/or groin issue. He wasn't on site as the Dolphins went through morning workouts Tuesday. Said coach Tony Sparano: "We sent Matt down to get a look at that groin. We're investigating it, as I told you yesterday."
Analysis: Roth enjoyed his best season last year, when he moved from end to outside linebacker and started 14 games. Roth is a low-end DL in deeper IDP leagues. He will compete with Jason Taylor for playing time, but the longer Roth remains out, the worse it will be for his playing time.
News: Miami Dolphins linebacker Matt Roth missed the first two days of training-camp drills with an illness that had yet to be diagnosed, coach Tony Sparano said Monday. Roth's agent, however, said the problem was a groin injury. Roth was placed on the physically unable to perform list with a non-football illness after he failed a conditioning test at the start of camp. "Matt did not do as well in the conditioning test," Sparano said. "We talked about what was going on. ... He did not feel right, and so we sent him for blood tests. That work came back negative, and that is where we are right now."
Analysis: Roth enjoyed his best season last year, when he moved from end to outside linebacker and started 14 games. Roth is a low-end DL in deeper IDP leagues.
News: Dolphins DL Matt Roth made it back-to-back games with a sack when he brought down Tyler Thigpen in a Week 16 win at Kansas City. He now has five sacks on the year.
Analysis: Roth is a low-end DL in deeper IDP leagues and should be worth using in Week 17 at the Jets, as he's always capable of recording a sack.
News: Dolphins DL Matt Roth claimed his fourth sack of the season in a Week 15 win over the San Francisco.
Analysis: Roth is a low-end DL in deeper IDP leagues and should be worth using in Week 16 at Kansas City.
News: Dolphins DL Matt Roth recorded at least half a sack for a second straight game in a Week 11 win over the Raiders.
Analysis: Roth is a low-end DL in IDP leagues but might be worth using in Week 12 vs. New England if he can keep up this sack streak.
News: Dolphins DL Matt Roth, who had two sacks in his first four games this season, ended a four-game sack-less skid with half a sack in a Week 10 win over the Seahawks.
Analysis: Roth is a low-end DL in IDP leagues but is worth using in Week 11 against the awful Raiders.
News: Dolphins LB Channing Crowder led Miami with 10 tackles in a Week 7 loss to the Ravens. Also contributing were LB Akin Ayodele (seven tackles), DL Vonnie Holliday (seven tackles, half a sack) and DL Matt Roth (five tackles, half a sack).
Analysis: Crowder is emerging as a nice low-end starting LB in IDP leagues. Feel free to use him in Week 8 against the Bills.
News: Dolphins DL Matt Roth had three tackles Sunday at Houston.
Analysis: Roth is a low-end DL in IDP leagues but is worth using in Week 7 against Baltimore.
News: Dolphins DL Matt Roth recorded five tackles and his second sack of the season in a Week 5 win over the Chargers.
Analysis: Roth had 6.5 sacks in his first two seasons in the league, but is thriving as a LB in Miami's 3-4 defensive system right now. Consider him a low-end bye-week replacement in IDP leagues for Week 6 at Houston.
News: Dolphins DB Yeremiah Bell had 10 tackles and a forced fumble, LB Channing Crowder had 10 tackles, DL Matt Roth had five tackles, one sack and a forced fumble and LB Joey Porter had six tackles and a sack in Week 1 against the Jets.
Analysis: Bell is a No. 3 DB in IDP leagues, Roth is a No. 3 DL and Porter and Crowder are No. 3 LB options for Week 2 at Arizona.
News: Miami's Matt Roth will not be lining up at DE, his normal position, on Sunday against the Jets. Instead, reports the team's official website, Roth is starting at outside linebacker, a position he hasn't played since high school.
Analysis: The 6-foot-4, 275-pounder was a consensus high school All-American as a linebacker and was recruited as one by the Hawkeyes, but he transitioned to defensive end his sophomore year and then became a full-time starter as a junior. Because Roth will be new to the position, we obviously can't recommend taking a flier on him in Week 1 in IDP leagues. He's nothing more than a very low-end Fantasy LB.
News: Dolphins DL Matt Roth appeared in 13 games with nine starts in 2007. He had a career-high 44 tackles (35 solo) and also added three sacks and forced one fumble.
Analysis: Roth benefits from playing opposite Jason Taylor. But even with Taylor drawing double teams, Roth still didn't put up overwhelming stats. Don't plan on drafting Roth in 2008 and consider him a low-end DL in IDP leagues.
News: Dolphins DB Michael Lehan (groin), RB Jesse Chatman (ankle), LB Channing Crowder (foot), WR Marty Booker (knee), DE Matt Roth (groin), LB Mark Washington (coach's decision) and DT Anthony Bryant (coach's decision) were all named inactive for Miami's Week 14 game at Buffalo. For the Bills, DB Jerametrius Butler (calf), LB Coy Wire (neck), DE Chris Kelsay (ankle), DR Copeland Bryan (knee), RB William Shaud (coach's decision), FB Ryan Neufeld (coach's decision) and emergency third QB Gibran Hamdan were also named inactive.
Analysis: The Dolphins are a complete mess as Booker, Chatman and Crowder, who all have Fantasy value, are all inactive. Derek Hagan, Samkon Gado and Donnie Spragan will start instead. None of the Bills inactives who weren't already declared out earlier this week have any Fantasy value.
News: Dolphins DB Lance Schulters (eight tackles), DB Jason Allen (six tackles), LB Channing Crowder (six tackles), DL Rodrique Wright (four tackles), DB Andre Goodman (four tackles) and DL Matt Roth (four tackles, sack) all had nice contributions in a 40-13 loss to the Jets in Week 13.
Analysis: Crowder is the only one of these players with any Fantasy value, and his is minimal as a reserve LB in IDP leagues. Bench them all in Week 14 at Buffalo.
News: For Miami, LB Zach Thomas (migraines), DL Matt Roth (groin), WR Kerry Reed (coach's decision), RB Samkon Gado (coach's decision), DB Jereme Perry (coach's decision), DB Tuff Harris (coach's decision), DL Anthony Bryant (coach's decision) and Rob Ninkovich were all named inactive for their Week 11 game at Philadelphia. For the Eagles, DL Jevon Kearse (coach's decision), DL Kimo von Oelhoffen (coach's decision), DL Montae Reagor (coach's decision), RB Tony Hunt (coach's decision), DB Marcus Paschal (coach's decision) and emergency third QB Kevin Kolb were inactive.
Analysis: Kearse is the only real surprise here, but he was benched earlier this week, so he should have been benched in Fantasy leagues too.
News: Dolphins DL Matt Roth (groin) has been officially ruled out for Week 11 at Philadelphia. He did not practice all week. Roth has 33 tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble in nine games.
Analysis: Roth, a third-year pro out of Iowa, is merely a low-end Fantasy DL when healthy. He won't test the injury against the Eagles and there has been no timetable for his return. Keep him reserved until futher notice.
News: Dolphins DL Matt Roth (groin) did not practice Wednesday or Thursday as the team prepares for Week 11 at Philadelphia. Roth has 33 tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble in nine games.
Analysis: Roth, a third-year pro out of Iowa, is merely a low-end Fantasy DL heading into Week 11. Continue to track his progress leading up to Sunday.
News: Dolphins DL Matt Roth recorded six tackles, including a sack, in Week 8 vs. the Giants. He also forced a fumble.
Analysis: Roth is a very low-end IDP option, but can be useful as a bye-week replacement option. In Week 9, he won't help you, however, as the Dolphins will be on a bye of their own.
News: DB Cameron Worrell (seven tackles), DB Renaldo Hill (five tackles), DB Michael Lehan (four tackles) and DL Matt Roth (four tackles) all made decent contributions in Miami's 49-28 loss to the Patriots in Week 7.
Analysis: None of these players have any Fantasy value at this point.
News: Dolphins DL Matt Roth had six tackles and a sack Sunday against Oakland.
Analysis: Roth has minimal Fantasy value and should not be used in Week 5 at Houston.
News: The Dolphins DST shutout the Patriots 21-0 with three fumble recoveries and five sacks. DB Yeremiah Bell had nine tackles, one sack and a fumble recovery. DB Will Allen had four tackles and a fumble recovery. And DL Jeff Zgonina recovered a fumble. DL Jason Taylor had six tackles and a sack. DL Kevin Carter had two tackles and a sack. DL Matt Roth had 1.5 sacks. LB Zach Thomas had seven tackles. LB Channing Crowder had four tackles. DL Vonnie Holliday had two tackles and a half-sack. DB Renaldo Hill had eight tackles.
Analysis: Consider the Dolphins DST a low-end No. 1 option for Week 15 against the Bills and use all regular IDP players as needed.
News: The Dolphins DST had eight sacks against Detroit, one interception and one fumble recovery. LB Zach Thomas had six tackles and two sacks. DL Vonnie Holiday had three tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery. DL Matt Roth had three tackles and two sacks. DL Kevin Carter had two tackles and a sack. DL David Bowens had one tackle and a sack. DB Renaldo Hill had two tackles and an interception.
Analysis: The only person who didn't do anything was the Dolphins best player, DL Jason Taylor, who had no tackles. Consider the Dolphins a low-end No. 1 DST option for Week 13 against Jacksonville. Use all IDP players as needed.
News: Miami DE Matt Roth looks much improved from a disappointing rookie season. Roth, who has bulked up considerably, is expected to play a larger role in Miami's defensive line rotation.
Analysis: Roth might be useful as a sleeper in the deepest of IDP Fantasy leagues, but he won't have many sacks thanks to Jason Taylor being as quick as ever.
News: The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that DE David Bowens and DE Matt Roth practiced Friday and should start in Week 13 vs. Buffalo.
Analysis: The defensive lineman will not help you in Fantasy leagues.
News: DE Matt Roth has agreed to a five-year deal with the Dolphins.
Analysis: Roth may play a significant role this season, but does not carry enough value to be on a Fantasy roster.
