Texans scoop up Ruud

News: The Texans signed linebacker Barrett Ruud Wednesday after he was released by the Saints Tuesday.
Analysis: Ruud could be the Texans' eventual answer to losing linebacker Brian Cushing to a knee injury. Ruud still has to work his way up the depth chart in Houston, but it's worth keeping tabs on his progress.

Saints part ways with Ruud

News: The Saints released linebacker Barrett Ruud on Monday and re-signed defensive back Elbert Mack. New Orleans acquired Ruud in a trade from Seattle in August.
Analysis: Ruud played in just three games this season and did not record a tackle. He used to be a viable option in Fantasy but should remain on waivers in all IDP formats at this point.

Ruud acquired by Saints

News: The Saints acquired linebacker Barrett Ruud from Seattle on Monday night for an undisclosed draft pick, reports New Orleans' official site. Ruud could compete for a starting job with the Saints.
Analysis: Ruud lost out on a starting job with Seattle to Bobby Wagner, but with the Saints' linebacking corps devastated by suspensions, he could catch on in New Orleans. The veteran has had at least 114 total tackles in four of his last five seasons and was close to getting there in 2011 before he got injured. He is a sleeper for IDP drafts.

Seahawks 'careful' with Ruud

News: With the loss of linebacker David Hawthorne to the Saints, it appeared Barrett Ruud was being penciled in this offseason as the starting middle linebacker. However, coach Pete Carroll said Ruud is fighting through his recovery from groin, knee and shoulder issues. "He's coming back from all of that," Carroll said. "He is working out, he's doing a lot of stuff, but we're going to be very careful with him in bringing him back."
Analysis: The veteran has had at least 114 total tackles in four of his last five seasons and was close to getting there in 2011 before he got hurt. We think he can be swiped with a late-round pick as a solid sleeper.

Ruud placed on IR

News: Tennessee LB Barrett Ruud was placed on injured reserve Tuesday with a groin issue that forced him to miss the past three games. The Titans replaced him with LB Kevin Malast, who was signed from Jacksonville's practice squad.
Analysis: Ruud finished with 57 tackles and an interception this season before losing his starting position to rookie Colin McCarthy. Fantasy owners should release Ruud in all IDP formats for the remainder of the season.

Ruud could end up on IR

News: Titans coach Mike Munchak didn't have a positive update Monday about injured LB Barrett Ruud, who is having trouble with a nagging groin injury. Ruud, who has missed the last three games, isn't progressing and could be put on injured reserve.
Analysis: The Titans have gotten great play out of Colin McCarthy, which is a reason why they could entertain ending Ruud's season. But Munchak said that will only happen if other injured LBs don't return soon and Tennessee needs a roster spot. Fantasy owners might consider cutting Ruud as well if you need the roster spot.

Ruud watches from sidelines again

News: As expected, Titans LB Barrett Ruud (groin) was inactive Week 14 vs. New Orleans. It is the third straight game he has missed.
Analysis: Ruud didn't even practice this week, so there is no telling when he might return. It's a tough loss for Fantasy owners, who started Ruud on a regular basis when he was healthy.

Ruud inactive as expected

News: Titans LB Barrett Ruud (groin) is inactive as expected Week 13 at Buffalo. It is the second straight game and third time in the last four he is inactive.
Analysis: Ruud is having trouble getting over this injury. He briefly returned to the lineup in Week 11, but couldn't finish the game. The Titans have gotten great play for Colin McCarthy, which is allowing the team to take a cautious approach with Ruud, who is a viable Fantasy LB when healthy.

Ruud to miss another game

News: The Titans announced on Friday that LB Barrett Ruud has been ruled out for Week 13 against the Bills as he continues to recover from a groin injury. It will make it the third time in the last four games that he has been unable to play.
Analysis: Ruud has racked up 57 tackles with an interception through nine games but cannot seem to kick this injury. He tried playing in Week 11 but suffered a relapse, and there is not timetable for his return. Keep an eye on his progress going forward as Ruud should be considered a viable option in deeper Fantasy IDP formats, when healthy.

Ruud sidelined again

News: Titans LB Barrett Ruud was listed as inactive for Week 12 against the Buccaneers, marking the second time in three weeks that he will be sidelined with his groin injury. Ruud had been ruled out on Friday.
Analysis: Owners in IDP leagues will need to sit Ruud for Week 12, but he bears watching over the season's finals weeks. When healthy, he can be started in most formats with individual defensive players.

Ruud ruled out for Week 12

News: Titans LB Barrett Ruud has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. He re-injured his groin last weekend and has not been able to practice since.
Analysis: Ruud has posted 100-plus tackles each of the last four seasons and is a valuable option in Fantasy. Keep an eye on his progress going forward, but right now it is time to find a healthier alternative. When healthy, consider Ruud a viable option in the majority of IDP formats.

Ruud re-injures groin in Week 11

News: Titans LB Barrett Ruud left Week 11 against the Falcons after re-injuring his groin injury. He finished with two tackles before being forced from the game. Ruud missed Week 10 due to the same injury.
Analysis: Ruud has posted 100-plus tackles each of the last four seasons and is a valuable option in Fantasy. Keep an eye on his progress going forward to make sure he does not miss more time. When healthy, consider Ruud a viable option in the majority of IDP formats.

Ruud active for Week 11

News: Titans LB Barrett Ruud has been ruled active for Week 11 against the Falcons after sitting out the previous game due to a groin injury.
Analysis: Ruud has racked up 55 tackles in eight games thus far and also has an interception. Since he will play on Sunday, feel free to get him active in the majority of Fantasy IDP formats.

Ruud officially questionable

News: Titans LB Barrett Ruud, who sat out Week 10 with a groin injury, is listed as questionable for Week 11 at Atlanta.
Analysis: With his backup, Colin McCarthy, also hurting, Ruud is expected to play. But there is still some doubt, so he will be a game-time decision. If he plays, though, then Ruud is a viable Fantasy start.

Ruud expects to play Week 11

News: Titans LB Barrett Ruud, who sat out Week 10 with a groin injury, returned to practice Wednesday and said he is feeling a lot better. He also said he expects to play Week 11 at Atlanta.
Analysis: It sounds as though barring a setback that Ruud will return Week 11. He still has a good chance to rack up another 100-tackle season, so consider Ruud a viable Fantasy LB when healthy.

Ruud forced to sit out Week 10

News: Titans LB Barrett Ruud was ruled inactive for Week 10 at Carolina because of a groin injury. Colin McCarthy is making his first career start in place of the injured Ruud.
Analysis: Ruud, who is in his first year with Tennessee, came into Week 10 on pace for another 100-tackle season. Now, that is in jeopardy if he is forced to miss several weeks. He continues to be a viable Fantasy LB when healthy, but keep him reserved for Week 10.

News: Titans LB Barrett Ruud (groin) is listed as questionable for Week 10 at Carolina. If he can't play, then Colin McCarthy will start at middle linebacker for Tennessee.
Analysis: Ruud, who is in his first year with Tennessee, is on pace for another 100-tackle season. He continues to be a viable Fantasy LB when healthy, so check back for inactive.

Ruud picks up interception

News: Titans LB Barrett Ruud recorded four tackles in the Week 8 win over the Colts. Ruud added one of two interceptions thrown by Curtis Painter in the game.
Analysis: Ruud picked up his first pick of the season on Sunday. That said, he was below double digits in tackles for the first time in a while. Ruud has been solid all year and can continue to be used in deeper Fantasy IDP leagues heading into Week 8 against the Bengals.

Ruud playing through shoulder pain

News: Titans MLB Barrett Ruud practiced in full on Wednesday, despite leaving last week’s game briefly with a shoulder injury. Ruud has dealt with pain in his shoulder all season. “It’s annoying but at the same time when you’re a pro you take a little bit of pride in overcoming that stuff,” Ruud said.
Analysis: Ruud has recorded 47 tackles through the first six games this season and looks well on his way to his fifth straight campaign with at least 100 tackles. While he does not record many sacks or interceptions, he is productive enough to remain active in the majority of Fantasy IDP formats.

Ruud hurts shoulder in third quarter

News: Titans LB Barrett Ruud left Week 7's game against the Texans in the third quarter, suffering an apparent shoulder injury, but he returned to the game. Despite the injury, Ruud had a productive afternoon, making 10 tackles.
Analysis: Ruud has the potential to be a solid contributor in IDP leagues, so owners in those formats should check back on his status. If healthy, he can used as a No. 2 LB.

Ruud gets double-digit tackles

News: Titans LB Barrett Ruud, who has had some mediocre tackle numbers so far this season, recorded 10, including seven solo, at Pittsburgh in Week 5. It was his first time in double digits since Week 1.
Analysis: Ruud was a monster tackler with the Buccaneers, averaging 127.8 per year from 2007 to 2010, but he hasn't had to play quite the same role so far with the Titans. Still, his performance in Week 5 shows he's no slouch in the category. You can keep him active as a No. 2 LB in Fantasy IDP leagues.

Ruud picks up a few more tackles

News: Titans LB Barrett Ruud, who had a combined six tackles in Weeks 2 and 3 after recording 14 in Week 1, got back on track Week 4 at Cleveland. He recorded seven tackles -- all solo.
Analysis: Ruud was a big tackler during his career with the Buccaneers, recording 100-plus in four straight seasons, but he hasn't been as consistent so far with the Titans. He's still well worth owning in Fantasy IDP leagues, but more as a No. 2 Fantasy LB than a No. 1.

Ruud has let down in Week 2

News: Titans LB Barrett Ruud totaled two solo tackles in Week 2 against the Ravens. Ruud had a 14-tackle performance in Week 1 against the Steelers.
Analysis: Ruud didn't get the chance to make many plays in Week 2 since Baltimore couldn't run the ball efficiently. That's why he had such a weak performance after a great outing. Ruud is still worth starting in Fantasy IDP formats based on potential.

Ruud paces team in tackles

News: As he often did as a Buccaneer in years passed, Titans LB Barrett Ruud led the team in tackles Week 1 against the Jaguars. He registered 14 stops -- six solo -- on the afternoon. Ruud is in his first season with the team.
Analysis: Ruud has been a tackling machine as a professional, and he is a more than viable replacement for the departed Stephen Tulloch. He led the Bucs in tackles in each of the last four seasons, and he is well on his way to doing the same with the Titans. Fantasy owners should consider Ruud to be a solid IDP performer all year.
