News: The release of Tony Scheffler could save the Lions over $2 million on the salary cap in 2013, Mlive.com reported Tuesday. He's set to enter the final year of his deal in 2013.
Analysis: Scheffler had some golden opportunities to step up late in 2012 but finished with just one touchdown. He did have 504 yards, his highest total since signing with the Lions in 2010. Getting cut could help him find a new job where he might potentially start but chances are no one will draft Scheffler in drafts this summer.
News: Lions tight end Tony Scheffler caught five passes on seven targets for 53 yards in Sunday's 26-24 loss to the Bears. It was his fourth consecutive game with six or more targets.
Analysis: Scheffler finishes the season with 42 receptions for 451 yards and a touchdown. The one touchdown matches his career-low, set in 2010, and represents a major drop-off from the six he had in 2011. On the bright side, the 451 yards were the most Scheffler's had since 2008. With an offense that has led the NFL in pass attempts for the last two seasons, Scheffler has some value as a No. 2 tight end, with Brandon Pettigrew probably being the better option on the Lions for Fantasy owners. Expect similar numbers in 2013, with an additional touchdown or two. He will be a late-round pick, at best, in most formats.
News: With fellow tight end Brandon Pettigrew missing the last two weeks as he nurses an ankle injury, and wide receivers Titus Young and Ryan Broyles out with their own injuries, tight end Tony Scheffler has emerged as a top target for Matthew Stafford. Over the last three games, Scheffler leads all tight ends in targets, with 23.
Analysis: Scheffler has turned those 23 targets into just 10 receptions, averaging about 32 yards a game. He has one touchdown on the entire season, after scoring six times in 2011. While Scheffler is getting a ton of targets, he has two things working against him: 1. He's failing to turn the targets into receptions, and, 2. The Bears, his Week 17 opponent, have allowed tight ends to score a total of seven points in the last four games. In fact, the Bears have allowed tight ends to score just four touchdowns all season, and they give up the second-fewest points to opposing tight ends. Scheffler will see passes come his way -- assuming Pettigrew, still bothered by the injury, doesn't play -- but there's no reason to believe Scheffler will be doing enough with the targets to make him anything more than a low-end option at tight end.
News: With Brandon Pettigrew out again with an injury, Lions tight end Tony Scheffler rose to the occasion during Saturday's contest at home against the Falcons in Week 16. With the game already out of hand, Matt Stafford connected with Scheffler twice for 32 yards under three minutes remaining in the game. He finished with four catches for 41 yards on six targets in a 31-18 defeat. He finished as the team's third-leading receiver behind Calvin Johnson (225 yards) and Joique Bell (73 yards) in a losing effort.
Analysis: Though Will Heller earned the start, Scheffler seemed to re-emerge as Stafford's top target out of the tight end position late in the game. Heller's production was still similar though, as he caught four passes for 34 yards. This trend will likely continue if Pettigrew still can't make it back on the field for the finale against the Bears at home. If that's the case, then Fantasy owners should consider him as a viable option in the deepest of formats for the final week of the season.
News: Lions tight end Tony Scheffler collected three receptions for 36 yards during Detroit's 38-10 loss at Arizona in Week 15. With Brandon Pettigrew out for the game with an injury, Scheffler was not in the starting lineup as Will Heller surprisingly drew the assignment against the Cardinals. But he still managed to finish with more catches and yards than Heller as he was targeted seven times by quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Analysis: Scheffler appeared primed for a strong performance as the Lions' lone tight end and with Arizona having allowed touchdowns to opposing tight ends in each of the past three games. But he was unable to maintain his momentum from last week when he scored his first touchdown of the season as two of his receptions went for less than 10 yards. Fantasy owners should keep track of Pettigrew's status as he could miss more playing time with his ankle injury. If he's out for Week 16, consider Scheffler a viable option in deeper formats against Atlanta.
News: With Brandon Pettigrew unlikely to suit up in Week 15, Detroit tight end Tony Scheffler is expected to be thrust into more playing time during the matchup at Arizona. Scheffler, who took over for Pettigrew last Sunday after he was sidelined with an ankle injury, will likely draw the start against a Cardinals team that possesses the league's fifth-ranked pass defense. He matched a season high with 10 targets in Week 14 against Green Bay as he also registered his first touchdown of the season.
Analysis: With the Lions' receiving corps decimated by injuries, the Lions have leaned on their tight ends over the past few weeks and Scheffler has certainly taken advantage. He has amassed 31 targets over the past four games and could reach double-digits in looks again Sunday with Pettigrew on the sideline. Opposing tight ends have also reached the end zone in three straight games against the Cardinals and are averaging 6.7 Fantasy points per game this season, making Scheffler a solid addition in most formats for Week 15.
News: With Brandon Pettigrew knocked out of the game with an ankle injury, Lions tight end Tony Scheffler made his presence felt as he caught his first touchdown of the season during Sunday's contest against the Packers in Week 14. Matt Stafford hooked up with Scheffler for a short 3-yard pass in the second quarter. He was targeted 10 times and finished with three catches for 20 yards and a touchdown in a 27-20 defeat.
Analysis: Scheffler was expected to earn more targets with Ryan Broyles and Titus Young on injured reserve, but his was able to make more of an impact with Pettigrew hurt. This was just the second time this season that he has received 10 targets in a game. We'll continue to keep an eye on Pettigrew's status heading into Week 15 at Arizona. If Pettigrew can't play, then Scheffler should be viewed as a low-end option in deeper formats heading into Week 15.
News: Lions coach Jim Schwartz delivered the disappointing news Monday wide receiver Ryan Broyles will miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn ACL in his right knee. Broyles suffered a torn ACL in his left knee last season in college. Schwartz also told reporters the Lions will make a roster move at wide receiver this week, but wide receiver Titus Young, who has been benched the last two games because of disciplinary reasons, "will not be in the mix" to replace Broyles heading into Week 14 at Green Bay. Mike Thomas is listed as Broyles' backup on the Lions' depth chart. Kassim Osgood and Brian Robiskie are also on the roster. Tight end Tony Scheffler, who has been used in wide-receiver sets before, could also help replace Broyles' presence in the passing game.
Analysis: Scheffler has seen his numbers increase in the passing game since Nate Burleson's season-ending injury. Now, he might even see a bigger boost with Broyles on the sidelines. Scheffler can play in the slot and might be a solution in the passing game for Detroit. He has managed eight catches for 112 yards in his last two games. Scheffler could be worth putting on your watch list to see if he becomes more of a factor on offense for Detroit.
News: Lions tight end Tony Scheffler had three catches for 55 yards Sunday against the Lions in Week 13. He had five targets in the game and was able to fight through a head injury in the first half. Scheffler left the field in the first half but was able to return.
Analysis: Scheffler is the No. 2 tight end for the Lions behind Brandon Pettigrew, but he was used early in the game as a receiver in tandem with Pettigrew when Ryan Broyles (knee) went down. Still, Scheffler has minimal Fantasy value in the majority of leagues. Ignore him in most formats in Week 14 at Green Bay.
News: In the Lions' Week 12 loss vs. the Texans, tight end Tony Scheffler caught five passes on six targets for 57 yards. Scheffler played frequently thanks in part to the benching of receiver Titus Young including most of the snaps in overtime.
Analysis: Scheffler will only be relevant in Fantasy if he earned playing time in front of Brandon Pettigrew, a scenario considered unlikely given Pettigrew's versatility. Keep Scheffler off of Fantasy rosters.
News: Tight end Tony Scheffler had an impressive 28-yard grab along the sidelines that helped the Lions extend a drive in the first quarter Week 9 at Jacksonville. Unfortunately, that's about all he contributed on the day. He did have a second catch, but for no gain. He was targeted three times.
Analysis: Scheffler had an 81-yard game earlier this season and had four catches for 46 yards last week. But if that's the best he has to offer, he's not much worth owning in Fantasy. You can leave him on the waiver wire in all but the deepest of leagues.
News: Lions tight end Tony Scheffler caught four passes for 46 yards in Sunday's 28-24 win over Seattle. Scheffler was targeted eight times, third-most on the team.
Analysis: Scheffler's now had 40 or more receiving yards in two of his last three games. And while it's usually a great sign to see a tight end get eight targets, the other tight end on the team, Brandon Pettigrew, had nine. Scheffler's the second option on a team that likes to pass, though, and while he isn't at an Aaron Hernandez-type level, Scheffler could have some value in deeper leagues as a backup tight end, especially if the Lions have found their groove and keep up the offensive fireworks. Owners in most normal-sized leagues (10-14 teams) can leave him on the waiver wire.
News: Lions tight end Tony Scheffler was second on the team in receiving yards with 81 Week 6 at Philadelphia. Most of Scheffler's yards came on a 57-yard reception in the fourth quarter. He had three catches on five targets.
Analysis: Scheffler had all of seven catches for 59 yards coming into Week 6, so you can see he isn't a big part of the passing game this season. Scheffler did have six touchdowns last season and comes up with the occasional big play for Detroit, but he is not a reliable Fantasy option heading into Week 7 at Chicago.
News: Lions tight end Tony Scheffler, who missed Week 3, had one catches for 16 yards in his return Week 4 vs. the Vikings. Scheffler was targeted just three times and played sparingly until the Lions lost Calvin Johnson for a few plays in the fourth quarter. He took Calvin's place then.
Analysis: Scheffler continues to be a non-factor for the Lions and isn't worth Fantasy consideration at this point.
News: Detroit tight end Tony Scheffler (calf) is active and starting Week 4 against Minnesota. Scheffler entered Sunday questionable with his injury but is able to suit up for the Lions and quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Analysis: Scheffler has a decent Fantasy matchup in the Week 4 game against a Vikings team that is struggling to stop opposing tight ends. That said, Scheffler is not really a realistic Fantasy start at this point.
News:Tony Scheffler didn't play in Week 3 against the Titans and is questionable to play Sunday against the Vikings with a calf injury. He practiced on a limited basis for the second straight day Friday.
Analysis: The matchup is good for Scheffler as the Vikings have struggled against tight ends, but only desperate Fantasy owners should consider him in Week 4.
News: Detroit tight end Tony Scheffler tallied five catches for 30 yards during the Lions' 27-23 victory over St. Louis in Week 1. Scheffler finished tied for the second-most targets on the team from quarterback Matthew Stafford with eight looks as he played a large role in the offense. He also posted the same number of receptions as starting tight end Brandon Pettigrew, but finished with 47 fewer yards.
Analysis: Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan wasn't kidding about providing Scheffler an increased role in the team's plans. In addition to superstar Calvin Johnson, Stafford like to lean heavily on his tight ends and Scheffler hauled in six touchdown passes last season. Pettigrew collects the most targeted of the two, but the two could battle for scoring chances. Consider Scheffler a low-end Fantasy option in most formats for now.
News: Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan believes that tight end Tony Scheffler could be asked to do more in 2012. "I think Scheffler's role gets even (bigger) for us this year," Linehan told the official team website. "It just changes our flexibility with personnel groups."
Analysis: Scheffler scored six touchdowns last season for the Lions but didn't do a heck of a lot else. As the No. 2 tight end for Detroit, Scheffler was more of an annoying Fantasy option not only because of his inconsistent production but also because he was taking stats away from the likes of Brandon Pettigrew, Nate Burleson and even Calvin Johnson. Unless your league is tight end-intensive, pass on Scheffler.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler was not much of a factor in Week 13 against the Saints. He caught just two passes for 41 yards in the 31-17 loss. He had a long reception of 36 and averaged 20.5 yards per grab. Scheffler was targeted four times in the defeat.
Analysis: Scheffler has caught at least two passes in six straight games and has three touchdowns over that span. He has five scores on just 18 receptions thus far as the Lions continue to target him in the red zone. Brandon Pettigrew remains the No. 1 TE in Detroit but his prowess for find the end zone keeps Scheffler relevant in Fantasy. With Minnesota up next on the schedule, continue to view Scheffler as more of a No. 2 Fantasy TE.
News: After having his three-game touchdown streak snapped his last time out, Lions TE Tony Scheffler will be looking to start a new one in Week 13 against the Saints. New Orleans ranks 27th in the league in pass defense, giving up under 254 yards per game, and have allowed an average of 8.3 Fantasy points to opposing tight ends.
Analysis: Scheffler has not totaled more than three catches in a game this season but his knack for finding the end zone has made him relevant in Fantasy in recent weeks. He is a viable red-zone target for QB Matthew Stafford, even though fellow TE Brandon Pettigrew is the main tight end for Detroit. The Saints have allowed six touchdowns to tight ends thus far so there is a good chance the 28-year-old can start a new streak on Sunday night. Consider Scheffler a No. 2 Fantasy TE for Week 13.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler did not come down with a touchdown in his Thanksgiving Day matchup vs. the Packers. He had scored in his three previous games. He finished with two catches for 13 yards.
Analysis: Scheffler was worth rolling the dice on given his penchant for scoring, and if you're totally desperate for a tight end he's worth considering again in Week 13 when the Lions take on the Saints in New Orleans and are expected to pass a lot. But in standard formats, Scheffler's not worth the risk.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler scored for the third straight game and finished with two catches for 24 yards vs. the Panthers in Week 11. He was targeted three times. Scheffler has had at least two catches in each of his last four games.
Analysis: Scheffler can't be ignored any further -- not by Fantasy owners and probably not by opposing defenses either. He played plenty in two-tight end sets and even saw a few snaps without starter Brandon Pettigrew on the field. If you're desperate for a tight end, give Scheffler a look as he's been hot and will take on a Packers defense in Week 12 that has struggled with opposing tight ends.
News: Detroit TE Tony Scheffler didn't do much in Week 10, but he did find the end zone. Scheffler caught a late touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford on Sunday against the Bears. That reception was good for 10 yards. He finished the day being targeted seven times, catching three passes for 37 yards. The Lions would lose the game, 37-13.
Analysis: Scheffler isn't the top tight end on the team, but he did something Brandon Pettigrew didn't on Sunday and that was score. In Week 11, the Lions face the Panthers a team that have given up 11 passing touchdowns in nine games and are allowing 223.9 passing yards per contest. Fantasy owners should consider Scheffler a low-end No. 2 TE at best, although his stock would rise if something happens to Pettigrew.
News: Detroit TE Tony Scheffler had three receptions for 38 yards and a touchdowns during the Lions' 45-10 rout of Denver in Week 8. Scheffler connected with QB Matthew Stafford on a 1-yard touchdown strike in the second quarter to give him his third score of the season against his former team. Scheffler spent the first four seasons of his career with the Broncos from 2006-09 and scored 14 touchdowns.
Analysis: Scheffler set up his score with a juggling 28-yard catch at the 2-yard line. His catch and yardage totals represented season highs as he was targeted three times by Stafford. The Lions continue to utilize Brandon Pettigrew as their top target at tight end, but Scheffler could swipe some looks the remainder of the season. However, Fantasy owners should only consider him a worthwhile option in deeper formats.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler, who missed Week 6 against the 49ers with a concussion, had two catches for 15 yards in his return Week 7 against the Falcons. He was targeted three times in the contest.
Analysis: Scheffler happened to catch a pass in the end zone in Weeks 1 and 2, but he has been a non-factor in the red zone since. Brandon Pettigrew is clearly the team's go-to tight end, so Scheffler belongs on waivers in all but the deepest of Fantasy leagues.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler, who missed Week 6 against the 49ers with a concussion, is active for Week 7 against the Falcons. He was limited in practice this week but was listed as probable leading up to the game.
Analysis: Scheffler has yet to record more than one reception in any game this season. His lone reception went for a touchdown in Weeks 1 and 2, but he has since been less of a target in the red zone. You can ignore him outside of the deepest Fantasy leagues.
News: Detroit TE Tony Scheffler is listed as probable on the team's injury report for Week 7 against Atlanta after dealing with a concussion. Scheffler was limited in practice the past two days, including Friday, after sitting out Wednesday's session with the ailment.
Analysis: Scheffler was held out of action in Week 6, but seems on track to return for Sunday's game. He has been limited in the team's offense and not recorded more than one catch in any game this season. He should not be considered a starting Fantasy option in any format for now.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler (concussion) was able to practice on Thursday. He had been held out of action in Week 6.
Analysis: Scheffler scored in each of the first two games, but he has just four catches for 63 yards on the season. He doesn't have much Fantasy appeal when healthy, so keep him reserved until further notice.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler (concussion) was listed among the team's inactives for Week 6, as anticipated. He had been considered out on the injury report.
Analysis: Scheffler scored in each of the first two games, but he has just four catches for 63 yards on the season. He doesn't have much Fantasy appeal when healthy, so keep him reserved until further notice.
News: Lions backup TE Tony Scheffler has been ruled out for Week 6 against the 49ers with a concussion. He was hurt in Week 5 against the Bears.
Analysis: Scheffler scored in each of the first two games, but he has just four catches for 63 yards on the season. He doesn't have much Fantasy appeal when healthy, so keep him reserved for Week 6.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler did not practice on Thursday. He suffered a concussion in Monday night's game against the Bears.
Analysis: Scheffler was held to just one catch in the 24-13 victory, which went for 12 yards. He was hurt on the play and is expected to be tested throughout the week. Even while healthy, he has been a non-factor over the last three games. He does get some looks in the red zone, but remains a very low-end option for Fantasy owners and should not be trusted while playing at less than 100 percent.
News: The Detroit News reports that Lions TE Tony Scheffler suffered a concussion in Monday night's game against the Bears. He was held to just one catch in the 24-13 victory, which went for 12 yards. He is expected to be tested throughout the week.
Analysis: Scheffler was hurt on the play. Even while healthy, he has been a non-factor over the last three games. He does get some looks in the red zone, but remains a very low-end option for Fantasy owners and should not be trusted while playing at less than 100 percent.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler was once again not much of a factor in Week 5 against the Bears. Scheffler was held to just one catch in the 24-13 victory, which went for 12 yards. He paid the price for it too, getting hit hard on the reception by Brian Urlacher. That was his only target in the contest.
Analysis: After catching a touchdown pass in each of the first two weeks of the season, Scheffler has been a non-factor over the last three games. While he does get some looks in the red zone, owners should expect to see more performances resembling Monday night's with the likes of Calvin Johnson, Jahvid Best and Brandon Pettigrew on the field. He is way too risky to start in the majority of formats and should be considered merely a low-end option heading into Week 6 against the 49ers.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler finished Week 4 at Dallas without a single catch, his first game without a catch this season. He was targeted just once in the game.
Analysis: Scheffler has garnered some attention in deeper leagues because of his touchdown catches in Weeks 1 and 2. He had just one catch in each game, however, and has yet to manage two catches in any game. Though he appears to be a target in the red zone, he remains too risky to play in Fantasy as he does not see enough targets to leave you with anything if he doesn't score.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler will head into Week 4 against the Cowboys with just three catches, though two have gone for touchdowns so far through three games. Scheffler has managed one catch in each of his first three games. Through three weeks, the Cowboys have allowed two touchdown passes to opposing tight ends.
Analysis: Scheffler is not a highly targeted tight end. The primary pass-catching receiver at that position for the Cowboys is Brandon Pettigrew, but the team has obviously been looking at Scheffler in the red zone so far this year. Starting him is like trying to catch lightning in a bottle because if he doesn't score, you are left with very little. However, his red zone targets alone make him worthy of being an emergency replacement option in deep leagues.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler only managed one catch for 4 yards in the Week 3 overtime win at Minnesota on Sunday. Scheffler was targeted just once in the game.
Analysis: Scheffler had a big history against the Vikigns, but didn't really do anything to prove he's going to be much of a factor this season. Brandon Pettigrew is the top tight end in town for the Lions and that isn't going to change going forward. Consider Scheffler someone to avoid owning in Fantasy at this time. He's not worth starting in Week 4 at Dallas.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler enters Week 3 at Minnesota with just two catches on the season after two games for 47 yards. Of course, both of those catches went for touchdowns. Scheffler enters Week 3 aiming for a touchdown catch in his third consecutive game, and could do it against a Vikings team that he's recorded 20 catches for 162 yards and two touchdowns against in his last three games.
Analysis: Scheffler is going to have added Fantasy value heading into Week 3 because starting TE Brandon Pettigrew has yet to practice and is dealing with a shoulder injury. While Pettigrew should play, Scheffler could get more snaps and offensive plays than he normally does. Given his history against the Vikings and the fact that he's recorded touchdowns in back-to-back games, Scheffler could be an interesting choice off waivers as a No. 2 Fantasy TE. Owners of Pettigrew might consider picking up Scheffler immediately.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler had one catch last week, and he did the same Week 2 against the Chiefs. The lone grab went for a touchdown, and it held true again on Sunday. This time, Scheffler broke free on a 36-yard catch-and-run for pay dirt. He was targeted four times in the 48-3 blowout win.
Analysis: Scheffler remains the No. 2 TE in Detroit, but he is outplaying Brandon Pettigrew when it counts. He has a pair of TD grabs, while the more prominent player has five grabs for 64 yards over two games without a score. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on the situation, but Scheffler is still a bit of a risk heading into Week 3 against the Vikings.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler made his only target in Week 1 against the Bucs count. Scheffler found paydirt when QB Matt Stafford hit him with an 11-yard touchdown strike in the second quarter. Scheffler also rushed for 5 yards on one carry.
Analysis: Scheffler will have his moments, but he is the backup TE to Brandon Pettigrew, who plays a bigger role in the team's passing game. Scheffler is mostly on the field for his blocking and has minimal Fantasy appeal despite the score. The Lions play the Chiefs in Week 2.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler, who missed the second preseason game against Cleveland with a hand injury, was able to return for the third preseason outing Saturday against New England. Scheffler had three catches for 38 yards and a touchdown.
Analysis: Scheffler is the No. 2 TE for the Lions behind Brandon Pettigrew, but he will likely see plenty of targets this year. Scheffler had 40-plus catches for the third time in four seasons in 2010. Unfortunately, he had just 378 yards and one touchdown. He is not worth drafting in the majority of leagues and would only be useful in most formats if Pettigrew suffered a serious injury.
News: Lions coach Jim Schwartz announced Thursday that TE Tony Scheffler will sit out Friday's preseason game against the Browns because of a hand injury suffered during Wednesday's practice. "He had stitches in his hand and the last thing we need is him catching the ball and busting those open or something like that," Schwartz said. "We get (Brandon) Pettigrew back this week so I think with Scheffler that we wont let him play."
Analysis: Scheffler had 40-plus catches for the third time in four seasons in 2010. Unfortunately, he had just 378 yards and one touchdown. Scheffler is the backup to Pettigrew, and while he is important to the Lions' effort, he has minimal Fantasy value on Draft Day.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler left Wednesday's practice with a left hand injury. Scheffler injured the hand on a pass play broken up by S Erik Coleman. His status for the second preseason game at Cleveland is unknown.
Analysis: Scheffler has minimal Fantasy value heading into the season. Keep an eye on his status, but he is not worth drafting in the majority of leagues.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler lost a fumble in Week 17 against the Vikings. After picking up 7 yards on a first-and-goal from the 8-yard line, Scheffler tried to stretch the ball across the goal line, but it was batted out of his hands and recovered in the end zone by Minnesota. The fumble overshadowed a productive day in which Scheffler caught six passes for 50 yards.
Analysis: Scheffler finished the 2010 season, his first with the Lions, with 40-plus catches for the third time in his career. However, he didn't have many strong performances down the stretch as Brandon Pettigrew became the Lions' best receiving TE. Scheffler is set to become a free agent and could find a new home in 2011. Wherever he lands, we doubt he will all of a sudden become an All-Pro TE, so we doubt Scheffler will be more than a No. 2 Fantasy TE to start next season.
News: Detroit TE Tony Scheffler (ribs) was limited in practice during the week leading up to Week 13 against Chicago. Scheffler, however, was ruled active for the game and should be able to play against the Bears. Scheffler sat out the Week 12 game.
Analysis: Scheffler has been banged up all season and the rib issue has already caused him to miss one game. Scheffler is just the second tight end option on his own team behind starter Brandon Pettigrew, so his Fantasy value remains low.
News: After missing every practice last week, Lions TE Tony Scheffler (rib) went through each practice this week on a limited basis as the team prepares for the Bears in Week 13. He missed the Week 12 loss to the Patriots on Thanksgiving with the injury. Scheffler is listed as probable for Sunday.
Analysis: Scheffler has been banged up all season and the rib issue has already caused him to miss one game. If he is active on Sunday, he remains the No. 2 TE behind starter Brandon Pettigrew, so his Fantasy value remains low.
News: After missing every practice last week, Lions TE Tony Scheffler (rib) returned on a limited basis in Wednesday's session as the team prepares for the Bears in Week 13. He missed the Week 12 loss to the Patriots on Thanksgiving with the injury.
Analysis: Scheffler has been banged up all season and the rib issue has already caused him to miss one game. Monitor his practice habits in the next few days to see if he can play on Sunday. Even if he can, he remains the No. 2 TE behind starter Brandon Pettigrew, so his Fantasy value remains low.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler has been made inactive for the Thanksgiving game vs. the Patriots with a rib injury. Brandon Pettigrew will start at tight end and see the majority of reps there.
Analysis: Scheffler has fallen out of favor with Fantasy owners after a decent start to the season. Owners shouldn't bother having him on rosters at this point.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler has been downgraded to doubtful for Week 12 against the Patriots with a rib injury. He has not practiced all week.
Analysis: The emergence of Brandon Pettigrew has cut into Scheffler's production. He hasn't had a good Fantasy week since he totaled 63 yards in Week 4. Even if Scheffler is active for Week 12, which appears unlikely, he would not be a recommended Fantasy start.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler (rib) missed a second straight practice Tuesday as Detroit gets ready for its Thanksgiving Day game against the Patriots.
Analysis: Scheffler has minimal Fantasy value in the majority of leagues even when healthy and is not worth using in most formats. Keep an eye on his progress, but ignore Scheffler in Week 12 against New England on Thanksgiving Day.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler did not participate in practice on Monday in preparation for Week 12 against the Patriots. Scheffler left the game in Week 11 after injuring his ribs.
Analysis: Scheffler has minimal Fantasy value in the majority of leagues even when healthy and is not worth using in most formats. Keep an eye on his progress, but ignore Scheffler in Week 12 against New England on Thanksgiving Day.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler, who was dealing with a shoulder injury coming into Sunday's game at Dallas, was able to play in Week 11, but he struggled with one catch for 10 yards on one target before leaving with injured ribs. Scheffler continues to be the No. 2 TE for the Lions behind Brandon Pettigrew, who had eight catches for 75 yards on nine targets.
Analysis: Scheffler has minimal Fantasy value in the majority of leagues even when healthy and is not worth using in most formats. Keep an eye on his progress, but ignore Scheffler in Week 12 against New England on Thanksgiving Day.
News: Lions tight end Tony Scheffler is active for Detroit's Week 11 matchup against Dallas. He was listed as questionable after seeing limited action in practice on Thursday and Friday.
Analysis: Scheffler will play against the Cowboys but he holds little Fantasy value as the Lions have been favoring their other tight end, Brandon Pettigrew, lately.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler (shoulder) is listed as questionable heading into the Week 11 game against the Cowboys. He sat out of Wednesday's practice, but returned to see limited actin on Thursday and Friday. He is expected to play at Dallas and hopefully play better than he did in Week 10 at Buffalo when he was held to three catches for 34 yards. It's not an easy matchup since the Cowboys have allowed four touchdowns to opposing tight ends with three reaching at least nine Fantasy points. And Scheffler is still considered the No. 2 TE for the Lions behind Brandon Pettigrew.
Analysis: Scheffler will be able to play against the Cowboys, but he has minimal Fantasy value. Don't plan on using Scheffler in the majority of leagues.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler (shoulder) was back at practice Thursday after sitting out Wednesday. He is expected to play in Week 11 at Dallas and hopefully play better than he did in Week 10 at Buffalo when he was held to three catches for 34 yards.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler (shoulder) was unable to participate in Wednesday's practice as the team prepares to face the Cowboys in Week 11.
Analysis: Scheffler saw the second most targets in Week 10 with Shaun Hill under center, and he will start again in Week 11. Scheffler should continue to benefit from Hill's passes if he can play on Sunday. Monitor his progress throughout the week to see if he can at least get on the practice field by Friday, when the team's official injury report is released. When healthy, Scheffler is a No. 2 Fantasy TE.
News: On the surface, Lions TE Tony Scheffler didn't seem to benefit from the return of Shaun Hill at quarterback Week 10 at Buffalo, catching three passes for 34 yards, but a closer look reveals he was targeted eight times, tied for second-most on the team. In the last two games with Matthew Stafford under center, he caught a total of two passes for 22 yards.
Analysis: Scheffler was consistently putting up between 40 and 60 yards per game when Hill was starting earlier in the year. He's still the backup to Brandon Pettigrew, which limits his upside from week to week, but because Hill tends to lean on his tight ends more than Stafford does, Scheffler is worth using as a No. 2 Fantasy TE at Dallas in Week 11.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler, who has caught a total of four passes for 27 yards over the last three games, when quarterbacks other than Shaun Hill were getting most of the snaps, should benefit from Hill's return Week 10 at Buffalo. Hill, who is working his way back from a broken left arm, will be replacing Matthew Stafford, who injured his shoulder last week. Scheffler averaged 4.5 catches for 42.3 yards in Hill's first four starts. Hill broke his arm during his fifth start. Scheffler also gets the benefit of facing a Bills defense that has allowed 12.0 points per game to tight ends, most in the NFL.
Analysis: Brandon Pettigrew has pretty much pushed Scheffler aside as the team's top tight end, but Hill seems to rely more on the tight end than Stafford does, creating an opportunity for both Pettigrew and Scheffler to contribute. You'd still have to be pretty desperate to use Scheffler in Fantasy given his recent numbers, but a bounce-back week wouldn't be surprising. Treat him as a No. 2 Fantasy TE in deeper leagues.
News: Detroit TE Tony Scheffler managed two receptions for 22 yards in the Week 9 loss to the Jets. He was targeted five times in the passing game by QB Matthew Stafford. Starting TE Brandon Pettigrew caught three passes, including a touchdown.
Analysis: Scheffler will have his moments but has just one touchdown catch all year. He has just four catches since Week 6 and is not a viable Fantasy option for Week 10 at Buffalo. The Bills stink against tight ends but he's still not recommended with Pettigrew on the roster.
News:Tony Scheffler failed to catch a pass for the Lions vs. the Redskins in Week 8. He was targeted once and really didn't see consistent playing time except when starter Brandon Pettigrew left for a spell with an injury.
Analysis: Scheffler has seemingly fallen out of favor in Detroit. He had two catches for 5 yards before the bye week and somehow did worse here. He's no longer a safe Fantasy option and should be cut for someone who you can rely on for at least some production from week to week.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler will take on a Redskins defense in Week 8 that's been pretty decent against players at his position. There's a three-week span from Weeks 3-5 where they gave up a touchdown to opposing tight ends regularly, but they've been tight since then. No one tight end has had more than 52 yards against them, a mark Pettigrew has exceeded just twice this season.
Analysis: Scheffler has become the second fiddle to Brandon Pettigrew in Detroit and really isn't a great Fantasy choice for Week 8. Consider other options before going with him.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler caught a pair of passes in Week 6 at the Giants. He finished with five yards in the game. The Lions targeted him five times. It was his least productive game since he caught just one pass for five yards in Week 2.
Analysis: Scheffler is the secondary pass-catching tight end in Detroit behind Brandon Pettigrew. The Lions have done a good job of featuring both tight ends this season, but Scheffler is far too inconsistent to trust outside of emergency situations in Fantasy. He won't be useful in any league for Week 7 when his team will be on a bye before playing the Redskins in Week 8.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler will face the New York Giants for just the second time in his career in Week 6 on the road. The Giants enter the game ranked first in the NFL against the pass. They have allowed just 146 passing yards per game. Scheffler received a 3-year contract extension on Saturday according to The Denver Post .
Analysis: The Giants have allowed just one TE to score or gain more than 50 yards in a game so far this season and that was Colts TE Dallas Clark in Week 2. Scheffler has posted decent numbers with at least 40 yards in four of his first five games and 60-plus yards in two of those games. He shares some of the pass-catching duties at tight end with Brandon Pettigrew, who has been a tad more productive than Scheffler to date, but this matchup against a tough Giants defense limits Scheffler to being no more than an emergency starter.

News: TE Tony Scheffler was one of five Lions to haul in five receptions in a 44-6 win over St. Louis in Week 5. He was a key part of a balanced aerial attack that put the Rams in a 24-6 hole at halftime, as Scheffler tied for the team lead in the first half with 30 receiving yards. He missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday with a concussion, and he was questionable to play, even though he practiced on Friday. Scheffler finished with 41 receiving yards on the afternoon.
Analysis: Scheffler has been steady, getting a decent share of targets each game, but he has yet to compile more than 63 yards in any given week this year. The Lions like to throw the ball, but there are simply too many targets sharing the ball for Scheffler to be a top Fantasy TE. He has only scored once so far this season, so owners can't count on him to help in Fantasy via the touchdown. He is merely a No. 2 TE.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler will play against St. Louis in Week 5, as he was left off the inactives list. He sustained a concussion in Week 4 against Green Bay, but he returned to practice on Friday.
Analysis: Scheffler has at least six catches and 40 yards in three of his four games this season, and he faces a Rams defense that has been fairly porous against the pass. Though tight ends in particular have not had much success against St. Louis so far this year, Scheffler is still advisable to use as a No. 2 TE in Fantasy.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler (concussion) returned to practice Friday. Detroit hosts the Rams in Week 5. Scheffler didn't start feeling his symptoms from this issue until Tuesday.
Analysis: In Week 5 the Lions will go up against a Rams defense that has allowed 230.8 passing yards per game, the 12th-highest average in the league. But they've been really good against opposing tight ends; the only one to have more than 50 yards against them is Redskins TE Chris Cooley, and no tight end has scored on the Rams yet this year. We'll keep you posted on Scheffler's health, but even if he's cleared he's not considered a great start for Week 5.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler did not practice for a second straight session on Thursday as Detroit prepares for Week 5 against the Rams. He finished the (Green Bay) game and felt fine Monday," coach Jim Schwartz said. "Tuesday he started getting dizziness and headaches. He didnt have real severe symptoms, but exercise can worsen (symptoms), so we shut him down for a couple days." If Scheffler is out, then Will Heller will take his spot in the lineup.

News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler missed practice Wednesday, and the team listed him sidelined by a concussion, dashing his chances of playing in Week 5 vs. St. Louis. Though he's not ruled out, there is no telling how serious his injury is; it is expected that Scheffler will have to pass a battery of tests before being allowed back on the field. That's unfortunate for a tight end who is on pace to set career bests for receptions and yardage. His career high for receptions was 49 in 2007, and his highest total for receiving yards was 645 in 2008, both set while playing for the Broncos.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler was targeted 10 times by QB Shaun Hill in a Week 4 loss to the Packers. Both Brandon Pettigrew and Calvin Johnson were targeted 11 times as Hill attempted 54 passes. Scheffler finished with six catches for 63 yards and no scores. His longest gain went 25 yards. Scheffler has 20 catches for 171 yards and one touchdown this season.
Analysis: Scheffler has managed six or more catches in three of four games this season. He has had to step up since WR Nate Burleson (ankle) has been hobbled by injury. Hill is leaning a lot on his TEs as he fills in for the injured Matthew Stafford (shoulder). Scheffler probably won't have many, if any, 100-yard games in 2010, but as long as he is getting regular catches, he can pass as a No. 2 Fantasy TE. Consider him as such heading into Week 5 against the Rams.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler has played his Week 4 opponent -- Green Bay -- just once in his career. That came back in 2007 with the Broncos, as he managed three catches for 28 yards and one touchdown. It's a completely different atmosphere for Scheffler in 2010, playing in his first Detroit-Green Bay showdown as a member of the Lions. The Packers have done well against TEs in 2010, holding them to 10 catches for 122 yards and one touchdown. Bears TE Greg Olsen had the most success against Green Bay this season, totaling five catches for 64 yards and one touchdown in Week 3.
Analysis: It's been an up-and-down season for Scheffler. He had a decent Week 1 to only take a backseat to Brandon Pettigrew's first 100-yard performance in Week 2. Then in Week 3, he comes back with seven catches and one touchdown. That's been the story of his career. He is a solid NFL tight end, but as a Fantasy option, Scheffler is inconsistent. He has played some in the slot with Nate Burleson (ankle) injured, but that's not enough to consider Scheffler a reliable Fantasy option. He might be worth a look as a bye-week Fantasy replacement for Week 4.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler had a productive performance in Week 3 at Minnesota. He led all Lions receivers with seven catches for 60 yards, including a 5-yard touchdown to open the scoring in the first quarter. Scheffler was targeted a team-high nine times in the game. Scheffler had plenty of open spaces up the middle and only he and fellow tight end Brandon Pettigrew had any success catching passes from QB Shaun Hill (who got the start with Matthew Stafford sidelined due to injury).
Analysis: Scheffler looked to have a tough matchup against a Vikings defense that had allowed the second fewest Fantasy points to opposing tight ends through the first two weeks of the season. However, the Vikings defense -- a very aggressive unit -- allowed the sixth most points to opposing tight ends a season ago. For Scheff, this was his second productive performance in the first three weeks, after catching six passes for 43 yards in Week 1. He had just one grab for 5 yards in Week 2. He is still too inconsistent to trust as a No. 1 TE, but is worth scooping up off the waiver wire in deeper leagues as a No. 2 TE or bye-week replacement option for Week 4 at Green Bay against another aggressive defense.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler could be in for a poor stat line in Week 3 at Minnesota. Scheffler who had just one catch for 5 yards in Week 2 against Philadelphia, will face a Vikings team that has allowed the second fewest Fantasy points to opposing tight ends through the first two weeks of the season. The Vikings have allowed a combined five catches for 26 yards to opposing tight ends through the first two weeks of the season.
Analysis: Scheffler, who had six grabs for 43 yards in a decent Week 1 performance against Chicago, saw fellow TE Brandon Pettigrew burst onto the scene in Week 2 against an Eagles with seven grabs for 108 yards while Scheffler played some slot receiver due to an injury to Nate Burleson. The Vikings do play a very aggressive style of defense that has historically left some open spaces for opposing tight ends (they allowed the sixth most Fantasy points to opposing tight ends a season ago), but they seem to have a more balanced approach so far this year. We wouldn't recommend using Scheffler in most leagues for Week 3 considering these factors.
News: After having a six-catch performance in Week 1 against the Bears, Lions TE Tony Scheffler took a backseat to Brandon Pettigrew, who had his first 100-yard game, during a Week 2 loss to the Eagles. Scheffler managed just one catch for 5 yards in Week 2. He was targeted four times. Scheffler saw some time in the slot late in the game after Nate Burleson left early in the game with an ankle injury. "That's one of the things that we worked a bunch of times, being able to stay in that two tight-end personnel, and use Scheffler in those situations," head coach Jim Schwartz said. "But it's generally when we're trying to create the situation, not third-and-8 or third-and-9, but trying to create matchups."
Analysis: If Burleson is out for a long time, Scheffler might see a few more reps in the slot, but we doubt he becomes a full-time receiver. Scheffler is a good NFL tight end, but he is a marginal Fantasy option because of his inconsistency. We have his this performance way too much. He has a good game, then the next week he goes cold. Pettigrew is the one with the most potential at tight end for Detroit, so Scheffler is a tough Fantasy play heading into Week 3 against the Vikings.
News:The Sports Xchange reports Lions TE Tony Scheffler was listed as No. 2 behind Brandon Pettigrew going into Week 1 against the Bears, but he emerged as a favorite target. He caught six passes for 43 yards, while Pettigrew dropped a couple passes. Scheffler's next challenge is to blow past the Eagles secondary. The Eagles allowed just 167 passing yards in Week 1 against the Packers and Green Bay tight ends accounted for just four catches for 47 yards.
Analysis: If Jermichael Finley struggled to get open against Philadelphia, what chance does Scheffler have, especially since he will be playing with his backup QB -- Shaun Hill. Scheffler is one of the more underrated tight ends in the NFL, but he has never been a superstar receiver. He has been plagued by inconsistency in the past and that is why we like him as more of a No. 2 Fantasy TE for Week 2.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler had six catches for 43 yards in his first game with Detroit on Sunday in Week 1 at Chicago. He had seven targets, and he was Detroit's leader in catches for the game.
Analysis: Scheffler should post quality stats all season, but we'll see what happens with the Lions' QB situation now that Matthew Stafford (shoulder) was injured against the Bears. Scheffler would not be worth using in the majority of leagues in Shaun Hill is the starter. Consider Scheffler a No. 2 TE in Week 2 against the Eagles.
News: New Lions TE Tony Scheffler is looking forward to his Detroit debut in Week 1 at Chicago. The former Bronco, who joined the Lions this offseason, should see plenty of open seams down the middle of the field with the Bears focusing on Calvin Johnson and Nate Burleson outside. 1. Last year, Chicago was one of three teams to allow double digits in touchdowns to opposing tight ends, and Will Heller caught a touchdown for the Lions against the Bears in Week 4.
Analysis: Scheffler is an upgrade over Heller, and look for QB Matthew Stafford to find Scheffler as often as possible in this matchup. We consider Scheffler a sleeper in Week 1, and he's worth starting in deep leagues.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler had two catches for 19 yards in Saturday's third preseason game against Cleveland. He had two targets, and his long reception was 10 yards.
Analysis: Scheffler has the chance to be a solid weapon for the Lions this year, and offensive coordinator Scott Linehan has a good history of using tight ends. We consider Scheffler a sleeper in deep leagues, and he's worth drafting with a late-round pick as a No. 2 Fantasy option. If he goes undrafted then consider adding Scheffler off the waiver wire as a bye-week replacement during the year.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler continues to be a solid performer in camp. He shows no effects of the injuries that held him out of minicamp, and he offers a large, quick target for QB Matthew Stafford. "Tony was key for us to take the pressure off Calvin (Johnson)," coach Jim Schwartz said. "If people want to take away the wide receiver, we need tight ends that can split the seam in coverage. Hes having a nice camp."
Analysis: Scheffler has had plenty of opportunities to step up in camp with TE Brandon Pettigrew slowing working his way back from a knee injury. Scheffler was a valuable target out in Denver for years, and he wasn't always the starting TE either. He can block and catch passes, which is a valuable commodity in the NFL. View Scheffler as a decent No. 2 Fantasy TE on Draft Day.
News: The Detroit Free-Press reports that Lions TE Tony Scheffler has shown good chemistry with QB Matthew Stafford this offseason. "I'm starting to get a little bit of chemistry with Matthew, and I love being in this offense. It's fun," Scheffler said. "There's a lot of chances for guys to get favorable matchups and kind of put the onus on you to step up and make plays."
Analysis: Scheffler has the chance to be a sleeper for the Lions since he has shown to be a good receiver from his days in Denver. He will likely share playing time with Brandon Pettigrew, but we like Scheffler as a No. 2 Fantasy TE. He's worth a late-round pick in deep leagues on Draft Day.
News: Lions head coach Jim Schwartz has been impressed with the play of new TE Tony Scheffler. The team acquired him earlier this offseason from Denver. "He was an important acquisition we made," Schwartz said. "He is a multi-dimensional weapon, and has a really good feel for the passing game. We'll use him in a lot of things."
Analysis: Scheffler is expected to hold down the starting tight end spot for the Lions until Brandon Pettigrew is fully recovered from a torn ACL, and then he'll split reps with him. A foot injury from earlier in the offseason doesn't seem to be slowing him down. We don't think Scheffler will put up a ton of stats, but he could be a decent option off waivers when you need one. He doesn't warrant drafting.
News: The two-week layoff for the Lions has been good for TE Tony Scheffler. He looked sharp during Wednesday's morning minicamp practice and caught several passes in coverage. Scheffler finally seems to be on the same page with QB Matthew Stafford. His offseason got off to a rocky start in Detroit after he was dealing with a foot injury.
Analysis: It appears like Scheffler will be 100 percent for the start of training camp, and he should see an increase in value going from Denver to Detroit. A key for Scheffler will be the health of Brandon Pettigrew (knee), but we expect Scheffler to be a key cog in the offense. Consider Scheffler a No. 2 Fantasy TE, and he's worth a late-round pick in deep seasonal leagues.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler has shed his walking boot and was back at practice with the team during their latest OTA. He had missed time with what head coach Jim Schwartz called an "irritated foot."
Analysis: Scheffler will compete with Brandon Pettigrew to be the starting TE for the Lions, but Pettigrew is coming off a torn ACL from last season and has only participated in individual drills. Consider Scheffler a No. 2 Fantasy TE worth a late-round pick in the deepest of leagues. Chances are he'll better serve owners as a one-week replacement off waivers than anything else.
News: Lions TE Tony Scheffler remained sidelined during the team's first day of OTAs on Tuesday. He still has a boot on his right foot from what head coach Jim Schwartz called an "irritated foot."
Analysis: Scheffler will compete with Brandon Pettigrew to be the starting TE for the Lions, but Pettigrew is coming off a knee injury from last season; he participated in individual drills. Keep an eye on what happens with Scheffler and hopefully he's ready for the start of training camp. When healthy, consider Scheffler a No. 2 Fantasy TE worth a late-round pick in the deepest of leagues. Chances are he'll better serve owners as a one-week replacement off waivers.
News: The Detroit News reports Lions TE Tony Scheffler wore a boot on his right leg and didn't participate in Thursday's organized team activity, but he said it was "just a precautionary deal" and "nothing bad." Lions coach Jim Schwartz agreed that it was just a precaution. "He's got an irritated foot," Schwartz said. "We just put him in the boot for a little while. He'll probably be back soon. Nothing big. Just a little bit of irritation. ... He's fine. It's going to be a short-term thing, but how soon, I don't know. But we'll get him back as soon as we can."
Analysis: Scheffler will compete with Brandon Pettigrew to be the starting TE for the Lions, but Pettigrew is coming off a knee injury from last season. Keep an eye on what happens with Scheffler and hopefully he's ready for the start of training camp. When healthy, consider Scheffler a No. 2 Fantasy TE worth a late-round pick.
News: New Lions TE Tony Scheffler is excited about going to Detroit following his trade from Denver, but he was surprised by the move, reports mlive.com. He knew he was going to get traded by the Broncos, but he was surprised the Lions went after him since they spent a first-round draft pick on Brandon Pettigrew last season. "Obviously, when you get that phone call, you look at the roster and do a quick analysis. That was one of the things that came up," Scheffler said. "All great offenses have multiple weapons, but it's up to the coaches, this great coaching staff here, to find places for guys and create opportunities. I think there's room for everybody here to make plays." Part of Scheffler's optimism that a lot of receivers can prosper in the offense comes from his first glimpses of QB Matthew Stafford. "It's a privilege to be here," said Scheffler, who compared Stafford to his former quarterback, Jay Cutler. "Very similar to Jay. I was watching practice yesterday -- I've only been here a couple of days -- and he sits in that pocket and throws that thing with some zip. Just watching yesterday, he made some throws that you don't see a lot of guys make."
Analysis: Scheffler could get the chance to start with Pettigrew coming off a knee injury last season. But since the two will likely share playing time and targets, consider Scheffler a No. 2 Fantasy TE. He is only worth a late-round pick in deep leagues on Draft Day.
News: The Eagles acquired LB Ernie Sims in a three-way deal with Detroit and Denver on Monday. Philadelphia dealt a fifth-round pick to the Broncos, who are sending tight end Tony Scheffler and a seventh-round pick to the Lions. Scheffler, a Michigan native, told the Denver Post that he's excited to join the Lions and reportedly had to tell Lions head coach Jim Schwartz that he wouldn't ask for a contract extension this season. Scheffler fell out of favor with the Broncos last season, benched for the season finale because of 'attitude' problems.
Analysis: It was initially believed that Scheffler would be a short-term replacement for injured Lions TE Brandon Pettigrew, but Mlive.com reported that Scheffler is a bigger part of the Lions' plans and they're thinking about using him in a Dallas Clark-type role, according to a team source. That sounds interesting. He's in a contract year, which should mean that he'll do what he can to earn a hefty raise for the 2011 season. His value will hinge on Pettigrew's availability for the start of the season but at the very least he could be a cheap low-end Fantasy option for the start of the season. Scheffler remains a late-round pick in deeper Fantasy leagues since he's not starting material.
News: The Denver Post reports that TE Tony Scheffler has signed his restricted free-agent tender offer, opening the door for him to be traded in the near future. Scheffler, like ex-teammate Brandon Marshall, had problems with the coaching staff. He also struggled in his first season with the Broncos, catching only 31 passes for 416 yards and two touchdowns, his worst output since his rookie year.
Analysis: Expect for Scheffler to get traded in the near future and hopefully be featured in a pass-heavy offense. Potential landing spots include New England, St. Louis, Cincinnati and Cleveland. Don't expect Scheffler to be anything better than a No. 2 Fantasy TE in 2010.
News: The Broncos slapped a second-round tender on TE Tony Scheffler, just a couple of months after being slapped with "attitude" problems according to head coach Josh McDaniels. Any team could make an offer to Scheffler but would have to give a second-round pick to the Broncos as compensation if the offer wasn't matched.
Analysis: Expected to have a big year under McDaniels, Scheffler instead posted three-year lows across the board with 31 catches for 416 yards (13.4 avg.) and two touchdowns. He could be on the move this offseason, though not because of this tender. He's no better than a No. 2 Fantasy TE at this point.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler was benched for Week 17 for reportedly having "attitude" problems, according to head coach Josh McDaniels. Scheffler told the Denver Post he wasn't sure what those problems were or are, but he's confident that he will still find work in this league next season. Scheffler is scheduled to be a restricted free agent. "Obviously there's a lot of opportunities elsewhere," Scheffler said, noting that he doesn't think he'll talk with McDaniels before leaving for the offseason. "... I would think my reputation in this league is as a hard-working guy that will stretch the field. I think there's a place for me somewhere else."
Analysis: Scheffler was certainly not used often in the Broncos' offense, catching 31 passes for 416 yards and two touchdowns, his worst output since his rookie year (2006). We expect Scheffler to land elsewhere in 2010 and have a shot at regaining some Fantasy value. Expect to draft him late as a No. 2 option in deeper leagues at this point, though there's definitely room for his status to improve.
News: Broncos coach Josh McDaniels will reportedly bench TE Tony Scheffler for attitude issues, according to the Denver Post. The Broncos host the Chiefs in Week 17. Scheffler has been working with the scout team in practice this week. Daniel Graham is expected to see the lion's share of reps in place of Scheffler.
Analysis: Not many Fantasy owners were considering Scheffler for Week 17, but they can safely bench him in all leagues now that it's been made clear that he won't play. Graham only fills in as a low-end desperation option in deeper formats.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler hauled in one catch for 26 yards during a Week 16 loss to the Eagles. He was targeted four times in the game. Scheffler has only three catches in his last three games.
Analysis: Scheffler hasn't had a score in nine games and has only one 100-yard outing. He might start for Denver, but his numbers aren't very steady. Scheffler is at best a No. 2 Fantasy TE. The Broncos play the Chiefs in Week 17. Scheffler had one catch for 19 yards in Week 13 against K.C.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler caught two passes for 48 yards in Week 15 against Oakland. He was targeted five times in the game.
Analysis: Scheffler has multiple catches in only six of 14 games this season. He's just a last resort in Fantasy play at this point.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler has a rib injury but managed to practice in full for a third straight day Friday as the team prepares for Week 15 against the Raiders. He is listed as probable.
Analysis: Scheffler has multiple catches in only five of 13 games this season. He's just a last resort in Fantasy play at this point.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler has a rib injury but managed to practice in full for the second straight day Thursday as the team prepares for Week 15 against the Raiders. He has yet to miss a game this season.
Analysis: Scheffler might always play, but he doesn't always play well, recording multiple catches in only five of 13 games. He's just a last resort in Fantasy.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler did not catch a pass in Week 14 at Indianapolis. He was targeted just once in the game.
Analysis: Scheffler has had limited looks in most games this season and outside of Week 6 when he had 101 yards and a touchdown on six grabs, he has been pretty useless in Fantasy. We don't recommend starting him in any league for Week 15 against Oakland.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler make a 19-yard grab in a Week 13 rout of the Chiefs.
Analysis: Scheffler is an inconsistent Fantasy TE option with Denver and has minimal value heading into Week 14 at Indianapolis.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler had a decent game on Thursday against the Giants. He caught four passes in the game, gaining a total of 53 yards. His longest reception in the game went for 22 yards.
Analysis: Scheffler had a breakout performance in Week 6 against San Diego but has been pretty underwhelming the rest of the season as this was his second-highest yardage total of the season. He is not one of QB Kyle Ortons more-featured targets and should be considered just a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option for Week 13 at Kansas City.
News: Denver TE Tony Scheffler has never faced the Giants, his Week 12 opponents on Thanksgiving night. The Denver TE has been almost non-existent of late for the Broncos with only seven catches in his last four games for a total of 53 yards and no scores.
Analysis: The Giants are among the best teams in the league against the pass and Kyle Orton is hurting for the Broncos. All signs point to keeping Scheffler reserved in Week 12 as nothing more than a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler had just a 12-yard reception against the Giants in Week 12. He now has only one reception in three of his last four games.
Analysis: Scheffler can occasionally come through with a big game, but he's not a consistent enough part of the Broncos offense to serve as more than a No. 2 TE in Fantasy. You can leave him on waivers in most leagues.
News: TE Tony Scheffler will take on the Chargers in Week 11 at home. The last time he played them he did really well -- in fact, the last three times he played them he did really well. Scheffler has four TDs in last three vs. Chargers with 101 yards and a score against them in Week 6 this season.
Analysis: The Chargers remain iffy against tight ends, and with the Broncos likely rolling out Chris Simms as their starting QB, expect Scheffler to see a lot of short-area passes come his way. We like Scheffler as a low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE and as a sneaky flex option as well.
News: Denver TE Tony Scheffler caught four passes for 29 yards in the Week 10 loss at Washington. He was the team's second-leading receiver in the game.
Analysis: Scheffler now has six catches for 51 yards and no scores in his last three games. He's lost a lot of Fantasy value recently after beginning the year fairly well. Now, the Broncos must deal with an injury to Kyle Orton and Chris Simms doesn't seem like a viable backup. Consider Scheffler just a No. 2 Fantasy TE option for Week 11 against the Chargers.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler managed just one catch for 3 yards on Monday night in a loss to the Steelers. His lone grab didnt come until later in the game.
Analysis: Scheffler is the No. 1 option at tight end for the Broncos despite having very minimal numbers in his last two games. He had six grabs for 101 yards and a touchdown Week 6 against the Chargers, however, and has two scores on the season. Denver plays at Washington in Week 10 and Tony Gonzalez of the Falcons found the end zone Week 9 despite the Redskins having one of the best pass defenses in the NFL. That makes Scheffler a decent low-end No. 1 or high-end No. 2 Fantasy option for Week 10. Hopefully hell get back on track.
News: Denver TE Tony Scheffler caught one pass for 9 yards in a Week 8 loss at Baltimore.
Analysis: Scheffler was coming off a bye week after making six catches for 101 yards and a touchdown Week 6 against the Chargers. He was almost invisible in the Week 8 loss. Go figure. Scheffler had really done little before the Week 6 game so we're skeptical that he'll be a top Fantasy option for Week 9 against Pittsburgh. Treat him as a No. 2 Fantasy TE for the Steelers game.
News: Denver TE Tony Scheffler had a big Monday night against the Chargers in Week 6. Scheffler caught six passes to lead the Broncos with 101 yards receiving. He also caught a 19-yard TD pass from Kyle Orton in the 3rd quarter.
Analysis: Scheffler is a highly athletic tight end and now has 16 receptions for 217 yards and two scores on the season. Scheffler has underperformed in his first year under Josh McDaniels but his last two games have been his best yet as he gels with Orton. Leave him alone Week 7 as the Broncos have a bye. Still, he could be a viable option Week 8 at Baltimore.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler caught four passes for 45 yards in Week 4 against the Patriots before leaving the game in the fourth quarter with a left leg injury. Scheffler, who was targeted five times, left earlier in the game with a back injury but did return.
Analysis: Scheffler had his best performance of the season against the Patriots, something head coach Josh McDaniels credits to his matchup against the New England linebackers. "He's just kind of been building and building," McDaniels said. It was too bad he wasn't around to finish it out. Scheffler has underperformed in his first year under McDaniels. He is pretty much just a No. 2 Fantasy TE heading into Week 6 against the Chargers; that's if he is healthy. Scheffler had 11 catches for 139 yards and three touchdowns in three games against San Diego last season.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler caught three passes for 26 yards Week 4 against the Cowboys. He had just one reception in each of his first three games.
Analysis: Scheffler had 645 yards receiving in only 13 games last season, but he doesn't seem to be nearly as important in Josh McDaniels' offense as he was in Mike Shanahan's. He's just a No. 2 Fantasy option for Week 5 against the Patriots.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler caught one pass for 14 yards Week 3 at Oakland. He has one catch in each of his first three games.
Analysis: Not exactly what you expected from a guy who had 645 yards receiving in only 13 games last season, is it? Scheffler doesn't seem to be nearly as important in Josh McDaniels' offense as he was in Mike Shanahan's. He's just a No. 2 Fantasy option for Week 4 against the Cowboys.
News: Denver TE Tony Scheffler made only one catch on Sunday in Week 2's game against the Browns but it was good for a two-yard touchdown. It was his second straight game with only one catch.
Analysis: Scheffler is the starting TE in Denver, but does not figure to touch the ball too often. Unless he sees a spike in production, he cannot be recommended in any Fantasy format. Keep him benched for Week 3's game at Oakland despite a good matchup for him.
News: In the Broncos' Week 1 win at the Bengals, TE Tony Scheffler caught just one pass for 29 yards.
Analysis: Scheffler also was in on the Bengals' last play of the game -- a Hail Mary pass that he intercepted. The interception will not count in CBSSports.com leagues as we do not score interceptions for individual offensive players. Scheffler is no better than a low-end No. 2 TE option when the Broncos play vs. the Browns in Week 2.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler caught two passes for 12 yards during Sunday's preseason game against the Bears. He was targeted four times. Scheffler has three catches for 17 yards in the preseason.
Analysis: Scheffler has recorded 40-plus catches the last two seasons and has had some big games for Fantasy owners. He has established himself as a pass-catching tight end, however, his numbers still don't rank up there with the big boys. Consider Scheffler more of a No. 2 Fantasy TE Draft Day.
News:Tony Scheffler has no beef with Broncos coach Josh McDaniels and insists he's on board with the team's new game plan. Scheffler and McDaniels sat down to discuss the tight end's role with the team. The conversation was cathartic. There were rumors swirling in the offseason that Denver was shopping Scheffler, not sure how he would fit into the new, intricate offense McDaniels was implementing. The meeting with McDaniels staunched those. These days, McDaniels is envisioning a big role for his reliable receiving tight end, who's looks slimmer and sleeker, and the coach admits he's never coached a tight end quite like Scheffler, one with the ability to stretch the field with a combination of speed and athleticism. "Tony is probably the most skilled pass-receiving tight end that I've had an opportunity to be around," McDaniels said. "That's a weapon for us that we can move around on the field. We're going to try to feature him in that role."
Analysis: This was encouraging news for owners considering Scheffler this summer. When he coached the Patriots' offense, tight ends weren't really used as often as we had hoped, but perhaps that was because they weren't as highly regarded as Scheffler. Naturally, with the Broncos' offense expected to be plenty aggressive with the pass Scheffler makes sense as a potential sleeper for the 2009 season. Learning how McDaniels feels about him only enhances his outlook. Scheffler is a good middle- to low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE who should be found late in nearly every draft this summer.
News: The Denver Broncos have agreed to trade disgruntled QB Jay Cutler to the Chicago Bears on Thursday. The Broncos get QB Kyle Orton in return, along with two first-round draft picks and a third-rounder. The Broncos get the Bears' top pick in this year's draft, which is No. 18 overall, and Chicago's first-round draft pick in 2010, along with a third-round selection this year (No. 84 overall). Denver also gave up a fifth-rounder this year. Cutler asked for a trade last month after his relationship with Josh McDaniels soured when the new 32-year-old coach talked to other teams about trading him. Cutler and his agent didn't think McDaniels was upfront with them about the trade talks. "We felt that (Cutler) is a very good person, a good leader," Bears GM Jerry Angelo said. "He had some things that happened in Denver. We recognized those, but we treated them as just speed bumps, part of the growing process. He's highly competitive, he's highly emotional. That just comes with the territory."
Analysis: This move might not be horrible for Broncos TE Tony Scheffler because Orton did well with Bears TEs Greg Olsen and Desmond Clark. Scheffler has proven to be a solid Fantasy option with upside. It doesn't help to lose a QB like Cutler, but Orton's lack of arm strength could help since he doesn't look downfield often and might throw in Scheffler's direction a few more times than Cutler did. Consider Scheffler a low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE.
News:Pro Football Weekly reports that the Broncos would entertain offers for TE Tony Scheffler. The pass-catching tight end doesn't fit into Josh McDaniels' offense, which primarily uses pass-blocking tight ends. Scheffler had 40 catches for 645 yards (16.1 avg.) and three touchdowns last season for the Broncos.
Analysis: Scheffler could still fit into the Broncos' system as he's a good player when he's healthy, and he's also a favorite target of Jay Cutler's. Ultimately, consider Scheffler no better than a late-round pick as a top-end No. 2 Fantasy TE as he's got the yardage to be useful in Fantasy but not the touchdown production. His value could rise if he ends up with a club who will feature him more in the red zone.
News: Denver TE Tony Scheffler had five catches for 75 yards and a touchdown Sunday at San Diego in the season finale. He scored three touchdowns against the Chargers this season. Scheffler finished the season with 40 catches for 645 yards and three touchdowns.
Analysis: Scheffler played well in 2008 despite missing three games due to injury. He will enter 2009 as a low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE and should play well since he has a standout QB in Jay Cutler.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler had two catches for 56 yards in Week 16 against Buffalo. His longest catch went for 36 yards.
Analysis: Scheffler was not a primary target in the offense in Week 16, but he has a good track record against his Week 17 opponent the Chargers. He had six catches for 64 yards and two touchdowns against them earlier this season and he will have everything to play for in what is a virtual playoff game. Consider him a solid play in any format.
News: TE Tony Scheffler put up a zero in the receptions category Week 15 Sunday against the Panthers. He was targeted on a screen pass that went for negative-one yards and was ruled a rushing attempt.
Analysis: Scheffler had been targeted by Cutler more frequently the last two weeks, but the tight end was mostly absent in Week 15. Despite the poor performance, Scheffler is still a No. 2 tight end. The Broncos take on the Bills at home Week 16.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler caught five passes for 61 yards in Week 14 against Kansas City. He was thrown to seven times in the game.
Analysis: Scheffler is the primary pass-catching tight end for the Broncos and is back to being productive after spending much of the season banged up due to injury. It's a formidable passing game that figures to have to expand with the team losing yet another running back Sunday when Peyton Hillis was lost for the remainder of the regular season. Consider Scheffler a decent tight end for leagues of 12-plus teams for Week 15 at Carolina.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler caught a team high seven passes for 90 yards in Week 13 at the Jets. He was targeted eight times in the game.
Analysis: Scheffler was targeted once in the end zone, but Jay Cutler's pass was intercepted. He has just 28 catches this season, but has been dealing with injuries for much of the year. He appears to be healthy now and is a big target for Cutler in what is an above-average pass offense. Consider him a decent option in leagues of 12-plus teams for Week 14 against the Chiefs.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler caught one pass for 12 yards in Week 12 against Oakland. He had been listed as probable on the injury report with a groin injury coming in.
Analysis: Scheffler has just 21 catches this season with two touchdowns this season. He has been bogged down by injuries and has not had a good rapport with QB Jay Cutler. Consider him a No. 2 tight end down the stretch. The Broncos travel to play the Jets in Week 13.
News: As expected, Broncos TE Tony Scheffler (groin) was listed as active and in the starting lineup for Week 12 against Oakland. He had been listed as probable on the injury report.
Analysis: Scheffler had no catches Week 11 against the Falcons and admitted he is still feeling some pain his groin. It appears he will suck it up and play, so hopefully he can put the pain out of his mind. Scheffler has just two touchdowns this season and has been hit-or-miss at times. Consider him a low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE Week 12.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler (groin) is listed as probable for Week 12 vs. Oakland. He has dressed for the last two games after missing three contests with the groin injury.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler, who played with a groin injury Week 11 at Atlanta but didn't record a statistic, practiced in full Wednesday and Thursday as he continues to recover from the injury. He looks likely to play Week 12 against the Raiders.
Analysis: Scheffler also played Week 10 and did fine, so the Broncos must have just had trouble targeting him at Atlanta. When he has to split looks with Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal, his numbers will suffer at times, but he still has a higher ceiling than most tight ends in the league. Treat him as a No. 1 Fantasy option Week 12 against the Raiders.
News:The Sports Xchange notes that Broncos TE Tony Scheffler played against Atlanta but was shut out. He admitted he is still having some issues with a lingering groin injury. His snaps were limited against Atlanta.
Analysis: Scheffler's performance last week shows he can play through the pain, so the Broncos must have just had trouble targeting him this week. When he has to split looks with Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal, his numbers will suffer at times, but he still has a higher ceiling than most tight ends in the league. Treat him as a No. 1 Fantasy option Week 12 against the Raiders.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler, active for a second straight game as he deals with an ongoing groin injury, went without an offensive statistic Week 11 at Atlanta. He caught four passes for 92 yards a week ago.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler, listed as probably all week with a groin injury, is active and will play Week 11 at Atlanta. He actually returned last week from the injury, hauling in four passes for 92 yards.
Analysis: Scheffler had emerged as a productive Fantasy TE before the injury, and the trend continued in his return in Week 10. Go ahead and get him active as a No. 1 Fantasy option.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler (groin) is listed as probable for Week 11 at Atlanta. He went through full practices all week.
Analysis: Scheffler looked plenty productive in his return last week, catching four passes for 92 yards despite still being bothered by the injury and seems like a safe bet to regain his status as a No. 1 Fantasy tight end. He should be starting against the Falcons in Atlanta.
News: Denver TE Tony Scheffler (groin) participated in full practice on Thursday and appears just fine to start in Week 11 at Atlanta.
Analysis: Scheffler looked plenty productive in his return last week, catching four passes for 92 yards despite still being bothered by the injury and seems like a safe bet to regain his status as a No. 1 Fantasy tight end. He should be starting against the Falcons in Atlanta.
News:The Sports Xchange notes that Denver TE Tony Scheffler returned in Week 10 after missing three games with a groin injury and was effective in limited snaps. He caught four passes for 92 yards. The Broncos have a few extra days off after playing on Thursday, and Scheffler was able to practice in full on Wednesday. He should be close to full strength for Denver's next game in Week 11 at Atlanta.
Analysis: Scheffler looked plenty productive in his return despite still being bothered by the injury and seems like a safe bet to regain his status as a No. 1 Fantasy tight end. Don't be surprised to see him wind up on the injury report again with this same injury, but plan to start him for now Week 11 at Atlanta.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler, returning from a three-game absence due to a groin injury but still seemingly hobbled by the injury, caught four passes for a season-high 92 yards Week 10 at Cleveland.
Analysis: Scheffler looked plenty productive in his return and seems like a safe bet to regain his status as a No. 1 Fantasy tight end. Don't be surprised to see him wind up on the injury report again with this same injury, but plan to start him for now Week 11 at Atlanta.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler, who has missed the last three games with a groin injury, is active and will play Week 10 at Cleveland. He was a game-time decision.
Analysis: The Broncos might work Scheffler back into the mix slowly, so you shouldn't necessarily rush to get the normally must-start option in your lineup. If you don't have any viable alternatives, though, you could do worse than taking a shot on him.
News: Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said TE Tony Scheffler will suit up Thursday night at Cleveland and test his injured groin during pregame warmups to see if he can play.
Analysis: Scheffler would likely see limited reps even if he did play. Consider other options before leaning on the Broncos' best receiving tight end in Week 10. When healthy, he fits the bill as a low-end No. 1 Fantasy option because of the offense he plays in and the opportunities he gets to be productive.
News: Denver TE Tony Scheffler is inactive for Week 10 against the Dolphins. He went through limited practice reps all week and has missed the last three games now.
Analysis: Scheffler had the bye week to rest, but it still appears he is hampered by the groin injury. Scheffler has definitely become a presence in the Broncos' passing game, particularly with so few Fantasy-worthy tight ends this season. He's a No. 1 Fantasy TE if he can come back and play in Week 10 at Cleveland.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler (groin) is listed as questionable for Week 9 vs. Miami. He went through limited practice reps all week and is hoping to return after missing the last two games.
Analysis: Scheffler had the bye week to rest, but it still appears he is hampered by the groin injury. If he plays Week 9, we aren't sure how much PT he will see. Until we know Scheffler is at 100 percent, consider him a risky Fantasy start. Continue to track his progress up until inactives.
News: Denver TE Tony Scheffler (groin) was still being limited in practice on Thursday in preparation for Week 9 against the Dolphins. Scheffler has missed two straight games before the team's bye in Week 8.
Analysis: Scheffler has definitely become a presence in the Broncos' passing game, particularly with so few Fantasy-worthy tight ends this season. If he can play Week 9 against the Dolphins, you'll want to get him active.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler (groin) went through limited practice reps Wednesday as the team prepares for Week 9 vs. Miami. Scheffler has who missed two straight games with a groin injury before the team's bye in Week 8.
Analysis: Scheffler has definitely become a presence in the Broncos' passing game, particularly with so few Fantasy-worthy tight ends this season. If he can play Week 9 against the Dolphins, you'll want to get him active.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler, who missed two straight games with a groin injury before the team's bye in Week 8, returned to the practice field on a limited basis Monday.
Analysis: Scheffler has definitely become a presence in the Broncos' passing game, particularly with so few Fantasy-worthy tight ends this season. If he can play Week 9 against the Dolphins, you'll want to get him active.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler is inactive for a second straight game Week 7 at New England. The same groin injury limited him in practice all week. The team listed him as questionable going into the game.
Analysis: Scheffler had definitely become a presence in the Broncos' passing game, particularly with so few Fantasy-worthy tight ends this season. Get him reserved if you haven't already. The Broncos have a bye in Week 8, so you have to figure he'll recover in time for Week 9 against the Dolphins. Daniel Graham and Nate Jackson will try to fill his void, but treat them as nothing more than last resorts in Fantasy.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler (groin) is listed as questionable for Week 7 at New England. Scheffler took limited practice reps all week and hopes to get back on the field after missing Week 6.
Analysis: QB Jay Cutler really missed Scheffler's presence Week 6 in a surprising home loss and the Broncos would sure like to get him back on the field Week 7. However, he has to overcome the injury bug first. If Scheffler is active, consider him a decent No. 1 Fantasy TE. Track this situation up until inactives.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler (groin) took limited practice reps Thursday as the team prepares for Week 7 at New England. Scheffler was inactive Week 6 against the Jaguars after tweaking his left groin Week 5 against the Bucs.
News: Broncos RB Selvin Young, DB Vernon Fox, RB Ryan Torain, TE Tony Scheffler, DL Josh Shaw and DL Ebenezer Ekuban have all been ruled inactive for Week 6 vs. Jacksonville.
Analysis: The Broncos are a bit banged up right now, and are down two key offensive contributors -- Young and Scheffler. Both are out after suffering groin injuries Week 5. Make sure to keep all these players reserved Week 6.
News: Broncos coach Mike Shanahan announced Wednesday that the AFC's best offense will be without two of its key components against Jacksonville on Sunday: tailback Selvin Young and tight end Tony Scheffler. Both strained groins in Denver's rain-soaked win over Tampa Bay last weekend. Head trainer Steve Antonopulos "thinks both will be ready for the Monday night game" at New England on Oct. 20, Shanahan added. "So, that's a good sign." With Young and Scheffler out, the Broncos will almost certainly rely more on running back Michael Pittman and Nate Jackson.
Analysis: Scheffler has managed 60 or more receiving yards in three of five games this season, emerging as one of the few serviceable Fantasy tight ends. His loss is actually a big deal in Fantasy. Ths injury is not expected to last long term, so keep Scheffler reserved for Week 6 and check his status leading up to Week 7.
News: According to The Sports Xchange, Broncos TE Tony Scheffler, who injured his groin Week 5 against the Buccaneers, said he didn't think his injury was too serious, but he didn't sound optimistic about returning for Week 6 against the Jaguars. "Not looking like it," Scheffler said. Broncos coach Mike Shanahan did not give an update on Monday. "We'll talk about injuries on Wednesday when we get the MRIs back," Shanahan said. "But we go through this every Monday -- for obvious reasons we'll talk about that on Wednesday, OK?"
Analysis: Scheffler has managed 60 or more receiving yards in three of five games this season, emerging as one of the few serviceable Fantasy tight ends this season. Monitor his progress during the week in case he exceeds his own expectations, but start making plans not to use him. Nate Jackson would likely start in his place. Like Scheffler, Jackson has receiver skills and probably would be a big part of the passing game.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler had four catches for a team-high 65 yards during a Week 5 win against the Bucs. He caught all four passes thrown his way and his longest gain went for 33 yards. However, after the game the team said he suffered a left groin strain.
Analysis: Scheffler has managed 60 or more receiving yards in three of five games this season. He might not be starting for Denver every week, but he is definitely the team's best receiving tight end. Consider Scheffler a low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE Week 6 against the Jaguars, if he is healthy.
News: Denver TE Tony Scheffler caught just one pass on Sunday in a loss to Kansas City. Scheffler's catch went for 26 yards.
Analysis: There will be weeks where Scheffler looks like one of Jay Cutler's favorite targets and weeks where he gets lost in all the offense. He's a No. 1 Fantasy TE, so you'll just have to deal with the bad weeks if you own him. He enters Week 5 against Tampa Bay as a low-end No. 1, so start him and hope for the best.
News: Denver TE Tony Scheffler is averaging 56 yards receiving per game this season. He scored twice in Week 2 to total all his touchdowns on the year so far. Scheffler and the Broncos head to Kansas City in Week 4. He caught four passes for 31 yards in each of his two games against the Chiefs last year.
Analysis: The Chiefs have the No. 4 passing defense in football but that shouldn't slow the Broncos down. Jay Cutler should be able to find Scheffler for a few catches and an end zone trip is not out of the question. Because we expect the Broncos to keep on rolling in the passing department, Scheffler heads into Week 4 as our fourth-best TE option and a No. 1 TE in Fantasy.
News: Denver TE Tony Scheffler caught four passes for 32 yards on Sunday in Week 3 against the Saints. Scheffler also lost a fumble.
Analysis: Scheffler found the end zone twice in Week 2 but will have good weeks and bad for your Fantasy team. This was a bad week. Does that mean that Week 4 against Kansas City will be a good week? It is definitely possible. We suggest starting him against the Chiefs.
News: Denver TE Tony Scheffler had a big day against the Chargers in Week 2. Scheffler caught six passes for 64 yards and found the end zone twice on passes from Jay Cutler. Cutler found Scheffler for TDs of three and 14 yards.
Analysis: Scheffler has emerged as a No. 1 TE option. The Broncos play the Saints in Week 3, and that should be another high-scoring affair. That makes Scheffler an elite tight end next week. He should be starting.
News: As expected, Broncos TE Tony Scheffler did not start Week 1 against the Raiders as TE Nate Jackson got the nod. However, Scheffler ended up as the leading receiver among tight ends with his 72-yard reception in the second quarter. Two plays later, QB Jay Cutler found Scheffler in the back of the end zone for a 9-yard touchdown, but he dropped the pass as it hit him right in the numbers.
Analysis: It would have been a great day for Scheffler had he held on for the touchdown, but he dropped it and didn't see another pass come his way. Scheffler might not be starting, but he is expected to factor into the passing game. Consider Scheffler a No. 2 Fantasy TE heading into Week 2 against the Chargers.
News: The Olympian reports that TE Tony Scheffler is currently listed as the backup pass-catching TE in Denver behind Nate Jackson. "I'm not worried about it," Scheffler said. "I think I proved myself last year that I can make plays for this team and I think I'm going to be a big part of things."
Analysis: Scheffler had a nice last two-thirds of the season in 2007, but that was after Jackson went down with an injury. Most people thought Scheffler had the inside track heading into this season, but he was slowed by a foot injury early in camp and now Fantasy owners will really have to worry about what kind of production they'll get out of him in 2008. He remains a No. 2 option, but you have to drop him down to very low end of that category with this latest news.
News: Broncos TE Nate Jackson caught two passes in Friday's preseason game against Green Bay, including a 7-yard touchdown pass from Jay Cutler. Starter Tony Scheffler did not catch a pass. He's caught just four passes for 55 yards in the preseason.
Analysis: The primary tight ends in Denver continue to be Tony Scheffler and Daniel Graham, so Jackson doesn't factor very prominently into Fantasy plans in 2008 despite this touchdown. Scheffler is a great option as a low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE. If he's healthy, which he appears to be, draft Scheffler after the first tier of tight ends are off the board, probably somewhere on Round 8 of all leagues.
News: If NFL commissioner Roger Goodell decides to suspend wide receiver Brandon Marshall for any games this season, the Broncos will be looking for someone else to emerge as the team's No. 1 receiver. TE Tony Scheffler could emerge as that player, reports the Denver Post. While Marshall has emerged as QB Jay Cutler's favorite target, Scheffler is a close second. Scheffler has said he wants to be the receiver Cutler goes to in clutch situations, and if Marshall is out, he may have to be. Scheffler, who had 49 catches in 2007, second-most on the team, appears recovered from a foot injury that kept him out of much of the organized team activity (OTA) workouts this spring.
Analysis: Scheffler is a great option as a low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE. If he's healthy, which he appears to be, draft Scheffler after the first tier of tight ends are off the board, probably somewhere on Round 8 of all leagues. And if Marshall is out for a significant time with a suspension, Scheffler's numbers and value should rise.
News: The Denver Post reports that Broncos TE Tony Scheffler says he'll be ready for the start of training camp in late July after reinjuring the left foot he broke during a minicamp last season. "It feels pretty good," Scheffler said. "It's back to normal, and I am doing everything with the rest of the team, looking forward to getting this behind me."
Analysis: While no one will confuse him with Jason Witten or Antonio Gates, Scheffler serves as a nifty receiving option for Broncos QB Jay Cutler, and he's capable of 40-to-50 receptions per season with a handful of touchdowns. Treat Scheffler as a low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE, and he's now a safe late-round pick in drafts this summer.
News: Injured Denver tight end Tony Scheffler dressed for the camp, but participated only in his position drills. Scheffler is recovering from a broken left foot.
Analysis: Keep an eye on what happens with Scheffler and hope he is 100 percent during training camp. Last year, Scheffler was slow to start the season after hurting his foot in the offseason. He has the chance to be a No. 1 Fantasy option in 2008 if he's healthy and builds off what he did in 2007.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler made his first appearance at minicamp Thursday since reinjuring a bone in his left foot while running a route May 19. "I don't know if it was scar tissue or what, but I heard a pop," Scheffler said in the Denver Post. "We've just been a little cautious with it, and it feels good now." Scheffler spent the rest of May wearing a protective boot and was fitted for new shoes and orthotic inserts earlier this week. He said he expects to participate in the second half of this minicamp next week and said he has "no doubt" he'll be fully recovered by the time training camp starts next month. Scheffler started seven games last season and finished second on the team with 49 catches for 549 yards, but played the second half of the season with a foot injury.
News: The Denver Post reports Broncos TE Tony Scheffler will be out at least four weeks after aggravating the broken left foot injury he suffered a year earlier. There is fear Scheffler may have suffered another small fracture in his foot, although initial tests were inconclusive. He suffered the new injury during the Broncos' first offseason practice Monday and was recently placed in a walking boot. Scheffler initially injured his foot last May while running a route during the team's passing-camp workout. He was diagnosed with a fractured fifth metatarsal, the bone that leads to the small toe. Although Scheffler recovered in time for the team's season opener last year, he started slowly, not catching his first pass until the fifth game. He later said he had dealt with soreness in the surgically repaired area throughout the season. Still, he was one of the league's most productive tight ends in the final 12 games and finished with 49 catches for 549 yards and five touchdowns.
Analysis: With Scheffler down, Nate Jackson figures to get more repetitions during the team's offseason training activities, along with veteran Daniel Graham. Keep an eye on what happens with Scheffler and hope he is OK. When healthy, he is a low-end No. 1 Fantasy option. Jackson and Graham don't have as much potential and would be No. 2 options at best.
News: Broncos third-year TE Tony Scheffler said Monday in the Rocky Mountain News he felt like a new man. Scheffler now is 15 pounds lighter, and instead of his weight, he's focused on his overall conditioning. Scheffler already has spent about six weeks in workouts in Atlanta (along with teammates Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall) on improving his speed, quickness and initial punch when the ball is snapped, while building up his core muscles. He admitted he "never got back to where I wanted to be last year," with the broken foot he suffered in training camp affecting his ability to separate from defenders and to cut sharply. While Scheffler still is experiencing some pain in his foot, he has been told that's part of an 18-month process to return to full health, and he expects to be completely healed by the upcoming season.
Analysis: "It seems like my rookie year, I finished strong. And I didn't start off hot last year. I've thought about it all offseason," said Scheffler, who caught 26 passes for 319 yards and three touchdowns in the final six games of 2007. "I want to build on the end of last season and play a whole season and contribute from the start. And I'd like to develop into a leadership role where other guys can know that they can count on me." Go into 2008 with Scheffler as a low-end No. 1 Fantasy option at tight end.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler played well in his sophomore season in 2007. Scheffler, who was slowed with a broken foot in training camp, appeared in all 16 games and finished with 49 catches for 549 yards and five touchdowns. He made seven starts.
Analysis: Scheffler improved on his rookie season and should continue to play a significant role in the Broncos' future. Look for Scheffler to be a starting TE in all Fantasy leagues, and he should take another step in his development as he enters his third season in the NFL.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler caught seven passes for 52 yards and a touchdown as Denver closed out their season with a 22-19 overtime win against the Vikings on Sunday afternoon.
Analysis: For a guy who didn't catch a pass in Denver's first four games this season, Scheffler certainly finished his season on a positive note. He caught seven passes for 100 yards and a score in Week 15 and impressed again on Sunday. He will be a nice sleeper TE candidate heading into 2008 drafts.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler had two catches for 37 yards at San Diego in Week 16.
Analysis: Scheffler is still a reliable low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE despite this ugly performance. Look for him to be used vs. Minnesota (who let TE Chris Cooley score on a wide-open touchdown a week earlier) in the team's season finale.
News: This week at San Diego, Denver will continue to rely on QB Jay Cutler, reports The Sports Xchange. The Broncos would like to get him more help than he had last week, when the running game was non-existent against Houston, but ultimately most of the offensive load will fall on Cutler. That's good news for Jay Cutler, who has caught at least three passes and as many as seven in eight of Denver's last nine games.
Analysis: Scheffler is a good low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE to use at the Chargers, especially with Denver expected to be playing from behind.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler came into Week 15 against the Texans as probable with a knee injury. It didn't appear as though he was nursing an injury. Scheffler not only started, but managed a season-high seven catches for 100 yards. He also scored the team's lone touchdown on a 12-yard grab in the third quarter.
Analysis: Scheffler has four touchdowns this season and had a quiet December before breaking out Week 15. He didn't record a stat in the first four games because he was still nursing an injury, but has been a solid Fantasy pption since late October. He heads into Week 16 against the Chargers as a No. 1 Fantasy TE. He caught two passes for 37 yards in his first meeting with the Chargers this season.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler (knee) is listed as probable for Week 15 at Houston. He took full practice reps Tuesday and Wednesday. Scheffler has gone cold during the last two games, totaling five catches for 48 yards with no scores. He is set to face the Texans, a team that ranks 14th against the pass and has yielded five passing touchdowns in their last four games.
Analysis: Scheffler owners should also notice that tight ends like Antonio Gates and Kellen Winslow have crushed the Texans over the last six weeks. Scheffler remains a low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE as he plays with a prominent passing offense. Figure him to have better numbers this week compared to his previous two games.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler has gone cold over the last two weeks, totaling five catches for 48 yards with no scores. This week, he faces off against the Texans on Thursday night, a team that ranks 14th against the pass and has yielded five passing touchdowns in their last four games. Scheffler owners should also notice that tight ends like Antonio Gates and Kellen Winslow have crushed the Texans over the last six weeks. Scheffler practiced in full on Tuesday with a minor knee tweak.
Analysis: Scheffler remains a low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE as he plays with a prominent passing offense. Figure him to have better numbers this week compared to his previous two games against the Texans this Thursday.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler caught four passes for 31 yards in Week 14 vs. Kansas City.
Analysis: Scheffler couldn't score in a game in which QB Jay Cutler threw four touchdown passes. He also saw the team's other tight end, Daniel Graham, out-gain him by 24 yards. At this time, we wouldn't recommend using Scheffler as anything more than a No. 2 tight end for Week 15 at Houston.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler caught only one 17-yard pass in Week 13 and will face a Chiefs defense in Week 14 that allowed him to make four grabs for 31 yards against in their earlier meeting this season.
Analysis: Scheffler does get the odd target from QB Jay Cutler, especially when a key first down is needed. Ten of his 13 catches at home this season have moved the chains. There are better TE options out there, but Scheffler has some value as a high-end No. 2 Fantasy TE option in Week 14.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler was held to one 17-yard catch in Denver's 34-20 loss to the Raiders in Week 13.
Analysis: Scheffler was always going to have a tough time finding holes in the tough Oakland pass defense, and with Jay Cutler struggling on Sunday, Scheffler's numbers took a bit of a hit. He's only worth a look in Week 14 against the Chiefs if you're really struggling at the TE position.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler has caught at least three passes in his last five games, including five last week for 82 yards (a career-high) with an improbable touchdown reception on a tipped ball at Chicago. Scheffler plays at Oakland in Week 13, a team he has never caught a ball against in his short NFL career. Moreover, the Raiders are tough against the pass, ranking fourth in the league, and they've given up just eight passing touchdowns all year.
Analysis: Scheffler is a solid low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE worth starting if you don't have a better option in Week 13. Consult our positional rankings for more help on whether you should start Scheffler.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler had five catches for 82 yards and a touchdown Sunday at Chicago.
Analysis: Scheffler has proven to be a solid starting Fantasy TE in all leagues. Consider him a low-end No. 1 option in Week 13 at Oakland.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler caught three passes for 38 yards Week 11 against the Titans.
Analysis: After overcoming injuries in the early part of the season, Scheffler has become a regular part of the Broncos offense. Since he has yet to have more than 50 yards receiving in a game this season, though, we have to say he's on the lower end of viable Fantasy options. Start him if desperate Week 12 at Chicago.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler (chest) is listed as probable for Week 11 vs. Tennessee. He went through full practices all week. Scheffler caught four passes for 31 yards in the Broncos' 27-11 win at Kansas City in Week 10.
Analysis: After overcoming injuries in the early part of the season, Scheffler has become a regular part of the Broncos offense. He can be considered a No. 1 Fantasy TE for Week 11. He is expected to play at this juncture.

News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler caught four passes for 31 yards in the Broncos' 27-11 win at Kansas City in Week 10.
Analysis: Scheffler is a regular part of the Denver offense and should be considered a low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE on a weekly basis. Start him if you don't have a better option vs. Tennessee in Week 11.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler, who make a catch in the first four games this season, has emerged as a nice Fantasy TE option in the last four games, averaging four catches and 40.3 yards a game with two touchdowns over that span. Denver play at Kansas City in Week 10.
Analysis: Scheffler has benefited most from the absence of WR Javon Walker, who could be back in a week or two. Get what you can out of the TE while Walker is still out, and consider him a low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE in Week 10.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler had six catches for 46 yards Sunday against Detroit. Scheffler also lost a fumble.
Analysis: Consider Scheffler a low-end No. 1 TE in Week 10 against Kansas City even if Patrick Ramsey starts for an injured Jay Cutler (leg).
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler went without a catch in the first four games this season, but has emerged lately as a nice offensive weapon for QB Jay Cutler. He will try for his third straight game with a touchdown when Denver heads to Detroit in Week 9. Detroit's pass defense ranks 30th in the league.
Analysis: Scheffler has been a hot waiver wire topic over the last couple of weeks, but is still available in 45 percent of leagues. If you need a bye-week replacement at the TE spot, Scheffler could be your man, especially as we have him ranked as a low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE in Week 9.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler caught his second touchdown pass in two games Week 8 against the Packers. The score came from five yards out in the first quarter. He finished the day with three catches for 28 yards.
Analysis: Scheffler has re-emerged as a favorite target of QB Jay Cutler after an early-season injury slowed his progress. With a great matchup at Detroit, consider him low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE for Week 9.
News: The Packers didn't list TE Tony Scheffler among their inactives for Week 8, meaning he'll suit up and play at Denver. Earlier this week, he landed on the injury report as probable with a knee injury. He's coming off a five-catch, 50-yard, touchdown-scoring performance against the Steelers in Week 7.
Analysis: Scheffler has re-emerged as a favorite target of QB Jay Cutler after an early-season injury slowed his progress. Consider him low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE for Week 8.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler (lower leg) is listed as probable for Week 8 vs. Green Bay. He went through a full practice Wednesday and Thursday. Scheffler is coming off a five-catch, 50-yard performance against the Steelers in Week 7. He also had his first touchdown of the season.
Analysis: Scheffler has re-emerged as a favorite target for Jay Cutler after an early season injury slowed his progress. It appears as though he might be turning his season around. If you need help at tight end, consider adding Scheffler. He is a low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE for Week 8. He is expected to play barring any setbacks.

News: Tony Scheffler managed five receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown in Week 7 against Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Scheffler and QB Jay Cutler were on the same page most of the night, as the tight end had his most productive game of the season. Despite the solid game, he should still only be used in deeper Fantasy leagues heading into Week 8 against Green Bay.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler's return to form in Week 5 against the Chargers (37 receiving yards) should provide a boost to quarterback Jay Cutler and a struggling red zone offense. Scheffler became one of Cutler's favorite targets near the goal line last season. "I think we kind of tried to push him out there a little bit too early," Cutler said. "He felt like he should be making plays for us like he did at the end of last year. Hopefully we can use him a little bit (Week 7 against the Steelers), use some two tight end sets and have him stretch the field."
Analysis: The Broncos tight ends have underproduced in 2007, so there is room for Scheffler to make an impact in the second half of the season. He is merely a low-end Fantasy option at this time, but could develop into a solid option if he does become a red zone threat.
News: Notable Broncos players from Week 5 vs. San Diego include: WR Glenn Martinez (six catches, 70 yards), TE Tony Scheffler (37 receiving yards), TE Daniel Graham (10 receiving yards) and TE Nate Jackson (9-yard catch).
Analysis: None of these players should be Fantasy regulars. The Broncos are on bye in Week 6 but play vs. Pittsburgh in Week 7. Don't expect any of these players to help you.
News: Denver TE Tony Scheffler had no catches Sunday against the Colts.
Analysis: Scheffler has been a disappointment thus far this season. He should be considered a low-end TE option for Week 5 against San Diego.
News: NFL Network reports that Broncos WR Javon Walker (knee) is not expected to play at Indianapolis in Week 4. Walker hurt his knee last week and only practiced on Friday on a limited basis. That means that Brandon Marshall will be Denver's lead receiver, with Brandon Stokley, Domenik Hixon and TEs Daniel Graham and Tony Scheffler picking up the slack.
Analysis: Marshall moves into low-end No. 2 Fantasy WR territory with this news, and Stokley could be effective as he'll see more passes thrown his way. Graham and Scheffler are TE sleepers for the coming week. Walker should be benched in all leagues unless the Broncos opt to make him active.
News: Broncos QB Patrick Ramsey, WR Domenick Hixon, RB Paul Smith, TE/LS Mike Leach and TE Tony Scheffler did not record a stat in Week 3 vs. Jacksonville.
Analysis: None of these players should be on your Fantasy roster until further notice.
News:The Sports Xchange reports Broncos TE Tony Scheffler hasn't played much this season. Because the Broncos are using more three-receiver sets with Brandon Stokley healthy, there have been few two tight-end sets and Nate Jackson has been the second tight end.
Analysis: Scheffler had a decent rookie season in 2006 with 286 yards and four touchdowns, but has fallen down the depth chart here in 2007. There is no telling if or when he might get more involved in the Broncos' passing game. It is probably best to leave him alone in Fantasy leagues until told otherwise.
News: WR Domenik Hixon, WR Nate Jackson, TE/LS Mike Leach, TE Tony Scheffler and RB Paul Smith were inactive for Week 2 against the Raiders. Backup QB Patrick Ramsey dressed and did not play in the overtime win.
Analysis: None of the players mentioned above are worth using in Fantasy leagues heading into Week 3 against Jacksonville.
News: Broncos who did not record a stat Week 1 at Buffalo include QB Patrick Ramsey, TE Tony Scheffler, WR Domenik Hixon, RB Paul Smith, RB Mike Bell and TE Nate Jackson.
Analysis: Ramsey continues to serve as Jay Cutler's backup and won't see the field unless an injury befalls the starter. Bell seems to have been passed over on the depth chart by the likes of Selvyn Young and Cecil Sapp. The other Broncos are also mere reserves. Ignore all these players in Fantasy leagues heading into Week 2 against the Raiders.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler (foot) saw his first preseason action Saturday against the Browns. He had two receptions for 33 yards, including a 28-yard catch.
Analysis: Scheffler had 12 of his 18 receptions and all four of his touchdown catches in the final five games once QB Jay Cutler became the starter. When healthy, Scheffler is a low-end TE option in deeper leagues. However, he has the chance to develop into a solid option this season.
News: Tony Scheffler (foot) was unable to play in Monday's preseason opener at San Francisco, remaining on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
Analysis: Scheffler had 12 of his 18 receptions and all four of his touchdown catches in the final five games once QB Jay Cutler became the starter. He's expected back for training camp, but keep an eye on his progress and how he does once he returns. When healthy, Scheffler is a low-end No. 1 TE option in deeper leagues, but the injury makes him a No. 2 Fantasy TE at this time.
News: Broncos WR Rod Smith, the team's career leader in receptions and touchdowns, is among a handful of veterans who will start camp on the physically unable to perform list, coach Mike Shanahan said. The Broncos are the last team in the NFL to start training camp and joining Smith on the sideline when they do will be wide receiver Brandon Marshall (thigh) and tight end Tony Scheffler (foot), two second-year players who are expected to play big roles in the offense led by second-year quarterback Jay Cutler.
Analysis: Scheffler had 12 of his 18 receptions and all four of his touchdown catches in the final five games once QB Jay Cutler became the starter. It's a good sign that he's expected back for training camp, but keep an eye on his progress and how he does once he returns. When healthy, Scheffler is a low-end No. 1 TE option in deeper leagues, but the injury makes him a No. 2 Fantasy TE at this time.
News: The Rocky Mountain News reports that Broncos TE Tony Scheffler's broken foot is healing fast according to his doctor, and could be ready for the start of training camp. Scheffler had been in a boot until recently after having a screw inserted into his foot on May 21 to repair a broken bone. "I'm kind of in their hands and they've stressed to me I should be about ready to go come camp," he said. "But it's kind of hard to guess what will happen in the next two or three weeks."
News: According to the Denver Post, Broncos TE Tony Scheffler suffered a broken left foot during minicamp Friday, the team confirmed. Scheffler will have surgery Monday and is scheduled to be out two months. If there are no unforeseen setbacks in his recovery, Scheffler should be ready for the start of the Broncos' training camp in late July. Scheffler was running an uncontested route when he felt something pop in his foot. X-rays revealed the break and it was determined surgery was the best option, not only for a full recovery but in the quickest time.
1 TE option, but the injury makes him a No. 2 Fantasy TE at this time.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler caught three passes for 54 yards in Week 17 vs. San Francisco, inlcuding a 9-yard TD pass in the fourth quarter.
Analysis: Scheffler wasn't a very reliable Fantasy TE this season and won't be worth more than a late-round flier in drafts in 2007 as a possible No. 2 TE.
News: Tony Scheffler had two receptions for 26 yards and a touchdown in Week 16 against the Bengals.
Analysis: Scheffler remains a decent No. 2 Fantasy tight end option for Week 17 against the 49ers in all leagues.

Analysis: Scheffler could be used as a sleeper TE for Week 16 against the Bengals.
News: Broncos rookie TE Tony Scheffler caught three passes for 66 yards and two touchdowns from fellow rookie Jay Cutler at San Diego in Week 14.
Analysis: Scheffler is a nice receiving option for the Broncos, but should be owned by folks in keeper leagues only at this point. If you need a one-week sleeper at tight end, Schefflet is it at Arizona in Week 15.
News: Tony Scheffler had just one reception for 15 yards in Week 13 against the Seahawks.
Analysis: Scheffler does not get enough touches to consider using in any Fantasy leagues for Week 14 at San Diego.
News: Notable inactives for the Broncos in Week 12 include: RB Tatum Bell (toes), WR/KR Quincy Morgan, RB Cedric Cobbs, LB Nate Webster, TE Tony Scheffler, DE Kenny Peterson and DT Antwon Burton. Mike Bell will start for Tatum Bell.
Analysis: Aside from Tatum Bell, everyone else on the list above should not be considered for regular Fantasy use.
News: Notable Broncos inactive for Week 11 vs. San Diego include: WR Quincy Morgan, WR Brian Clark, RB Cedric Cobbs, LB Patrick Chukwurah, TE Tony Scheffler and DT Antwon Burton.
Analysis: Keep these players reserved for Fantasy purposes in Week 11.
News: The Denver Broncos announced RB Mike Bell, DE Patrick Chukwurah, RB Cedric Cobbs, DE Ebenezer Ekuban, LB Ian Gold, OG Chris Kuper, WR Quincy Morgan and TE Tony Scheffler are inactive for Week 10 at Oakland.
Analysis: None of the players mentioned above are worth using in any Fantasy leagues for Week 11 against San Diego.
News: TE Tony Scheffler had a breakthrough game. He had two catches in his first six games, but he had four catches and a team-high 51 yards against Indianapolis. Scheffler should continue to be a big part of Denver's passing game. He is listed as probable for Week 9 at Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Scheffler is lightly used, but ended up being the leading receiver for Denver on Sunday. Consider taking a flier on him in very deep formats as a potential starter down the stretch.
News: TE Stephen Alexander, TE Nate Jackson, WR David Kircus, LS/TE Mike Leach, WR Quincy Morgan, TE Chad Mustard, FB Cecil Sapp and TE Tony Scheffler dressed for Week 7 at Cleveland, but they did not record any offensive statistics.

News: TE Stephen Alexander, FB Kyle Johnson, WR David Kircus, TE/LS Mike Leach, WR Brandon Marshall, WR Quincy Morgan, TE Chad Mustard and TE Tony Scheffler did not record offensive statistics in Week 6 against the Raiders.
Analysis: Backup QB Jay Cutler also dressed, but he did not play. None of the players mentioned are worth using in Week 7 at Cleveland despite the favorable matchup.
News: Broncos TE Tony Scheffler caught a pass in Week 5 against Baltimore. The Broncos show their faith in his receiving skills by often splitting him out wide, to create matchup problems. Once he gets in a groove with Jake Plummer he could have some big games.
Analysis: It is worth your while to keep an eye on Scheffler. He might be a mid-to-late season Fantasy sleeper at a thin tight end position. Right now, he is only owned in two percent of leagues. If you have room for him on your bench, you might want to stow him away for a rainy day. But right now he is not worth a roster spot in most seasonal leagues.
News: Rookie TE Tony Scheffler had just one reception for seven yards in Week 5 against Baltimore.
Analysis: Scheffler does not see enough touches in the offense to warrant using in Week 6 against Oakland.
News: RB Cedric Cobbs, TE Mike Leach, WR Brandon Marshall (knee), TE Chad Mustard, FB Cecil Sapp (hamstring) and TE Tony Scheffler were all able to dress for Week 2 against the Chiefs but they did not record any offensive statistics.

Analysis: Scheffler is not a viable Fantasy TE option for Week 2 vs. Kansas City.
News: Rookie Tony Scheffler exhibited some nerves in Saturday's preseason game against the Titans, dropping a pass or two, but he was impressive nonetheless. He had four receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown.
Analysis: Scheffler is one of the players the Broncos gathered in what will be looked back on as a very successful draft for the organization. The rookie out of Western Michigan was an impressive player in college and he looks to be making the transition to the NFL nicely. At this rate, he might buck for a starting job. However, he remains useful only in rookie-only leagues and late on Draft Day in leagues of 14 or more teams.
News: Tony Scheffler reeled in four receptions for 54 yards in Friday's preseason game at Detroit, as the fourth round pick continues to shine during training camp and the preseason.
Analysis: The former Western Michigan standout will likely secure a backup role with the Broncos, but he is not expected to make much of a splash in Fantasy leagues.
