Cowboys make change at weakside linebacker

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/3/2013) Cowboys linebacker Ernie Sims said he will start at weakside linebacker Week 5 vs. Denver, replacing Bruce Carter in the starting lineup, according to The Dallas Morning News.

"For right now, they have got me splitting reps with Bruce," Sims said. "The way I see it right now I am a starter. I feel like I will play the whole game and do good at it."

Carter struggled against the pass in Week 4 at San Diego as eight of the nine passes thrown in his vicinity were completed for 94 yards, according to ProFootballFocus.com.

"I definitely want to play," Carter said. "I don’t take nothing away from [Sims]. Ernie is my guy. I love him like a brother. I want to go out there just as much as he does, but if they feel like, I don’t know, it’s out of my hands, I’ll say that."

Ernie Sims' starting hopes hurt by injury

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(8/13/2013) Cowboys linebacker Ernie Sims hopes to earn a starting role this season, but he has been sidelined by a groin injury suffered Sunday that has kept him out of practice two days in a row. The injury comes at a bad time for Sims, who has been earning praise from the coaching staff in his battler with Justin Durant for a starting spot.

"He made a lot of plays in OTAs and minicamp and he's carried that into training camp and you see it in the preseason games," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett told The Dallas Morning News Tuesday. "He's running from side to side. He's around the football a lot. He's making a lot of plays. I think more than anything else I think what impresses me most is his demeanor, his approach, his attitude, and I think it reflects in how hes playing, how productive he’s been."
