News: On Tuesday the Jets released pass rushing linebacker Calvin Pace, safety Eric Smith, offensive tackle Jason Smith and waived tight end Josh Baker. The move opened up roughly $24 million in salary cap space.
Analysis: Pace and Smith have offered some help to Fantasy owners in the past but they might have a hard time contributing going forward as they'll need starting gigs and a boost in stats compared to their 2012 numbers. Baker was never relevant for Fantasy.
News: The New York Daily News reports Jets coach Rex Ryan said safety Eric Smith will miss Sunday's game against the Colts after suffering a sprained knee in practice Wednesday. Ill be honest, I thought it was much worse than that, Ryan said.
Analysis: Last year, this news would have been more significant for Fantasy IDP owners. This year, it's not a major deal since Smith has been demoted to a backup safety with the arrival of Yeremiah Bell. Smith has no Fantasy appeal when healthy.
News: Jets defensive back Eric Smith was active for his first game of the season, but did not record a tackle during New York's 27-10 loss at Pittsburgh in Week 2. Smith hurt his hip and sprained an MCL during the preseason, forcing him to miss the season opener against Buffalo.
Analysis: Smith said his knee is back to full strength, but there is still some lingering discomfort with his hip. Regardless, the 29-year-old is unlikely to receive much playing time now that he's healthy as LaRon Landry has taken over the free safety spot. Leave him on waivers in all Fantasy formats.
News: Jets coach Rex Ryan told reporters Wednesday defensive back Eric Smith will miss the rest of the preseason with an MCL sprain, reports the New York Daily News.
Analysis: The Jets upgraded at safety in the offseason by adding LaRon Landry and Yeremiah Bell. Their presence will cut into Smith's playing time this season. It's unfortunate too seeing how Smith is coming off a career season. He is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy option in IDP formats.
News: Jets coach Rex Ryan told the New York Post Sunday that he does not believe defensive back Eric Smith would miss the remainder of the preseason, describing him as day-to-day with a sprained MCL.
Analysis: Smith suffering the knee injury during Friday's preseason opener, but an MRI revealed no structural damage. The team is unlikely to risk him in the next preseason game, but he should be able to return to practice soon. Smith is expected to slit time at safety with Yeremiah Bell, and should be a low-end target in the later rounds on Draft Day in IDP formats.
News: Jets safety Eric Smith will miss the rest of the preseason due to a left MCL injury, reports the New York Daily News Saturday. Smith suffered knee and hip injuries in Friday's preseason opener. An MRI revealed no structural damage. The Jets are hoping Smith will be ready for Week 1 of the season.
Analysis: Smith should be fine by Week 1 as the Jets are playing it safe by keeping him out the rest of the preseason. Smith is important for the Jets as they are easing LaRon Landry into full-time action. Smith is expected to rotate snaps with Yeremiah Bell and has low-end Fantasy value in IDP formats.
News: Jets safety Eric Smith was forced out of Friday's preseason opener against the Bengals with injuries in his knee and hip. After making a tackle on a punt return, Smith got rolled up and aggravated his knee. He is listed as day-to-day after X-rays were negative. "I dont think its anything too serious," Smith said.
Analysis: It seems as if Smith aggravated the same knee where he had arthroscopic surgery during the offseason to repair a torn meniscus. He will get re-evaluated on Saturday so we will keep an eye on his status in the coming days.
News: New York DB Eric Smith was listed as probable for Week 15 versus Philadelphia. He's been dealing with a knee issue.
Analysis: Smith is having a career campaign for the Jets and should approach the 100-tackle mark for the first time, as long as he can stay healthy. Owners in IDP formats should continue to monitor his status.
News: Jets DB Eric Smith did something against the Chiefs on Sunday that he hadn't done since Week 4 -- bring down the quarterback. He was able to get to QB Tyler Palko to give him 2.5 sacks on the year. Smith finished Week 14 with five tackles in the 37-10 win.
Analysis: Smith is having a career campaign for the Jets and should approach the 100-tackle mark for the first time. He has proven to be more effective in run defense, but also has one interception on the year. Continue to view Smith as more of a low-end Fantasy DB in IDP formats at this point.
News: Jets DB Eric Smith is active for Week 14 against Kansas City despite being limited in practice last week with a knee injury. Smith was listed as probable on the team's injury report.
Analysis: Smith has recorded 73 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks for New York this season. He is an active member in the secondary and should be viewed as a decent DB option in Fantasy IDP leagues.
News: Jets DB Eric Smith was listed as probable for Sunday's contest against the Chiefs. He's been dealing with a knee injury which has been limiting him in practice.
Analysis: Smith has notched 73 tackles on the year and 1.5 sacks for the Jets. He's very active for a player in the secondary and should be viewed as a decent DB option in Fantasy IDP leagues.
News: Jets S Eric Smith had another outstanding tackling performance on Sunday of Week 13 at Washington. Smith led the Jets with eight tackles and six of them were solo in the game. Smith also had one pass defended for the Jets.
Analysis: Smith is an excellent tackler in the secondary for the Jets. He has 73 tackles on the season to go with 1 1/2 sacks and an interception. Smith has definite Fantasy value in deeper IDP formats.
News: Jets DB Eric Smith garnered seven tackles, including five solo stops, during New York's 37-16 loss to New England in Week 10. Smith finished tied for the team lead with Calvin Pace as he was able to overcome a sluggish performance last week at Buffalo (four tackles).
Analysis: Smith continues to be one of the best defensive backs for tackles and has racked up 55 stops to establish a new career high. His previous best was 54 set last season. But his interception totals continue to be lackluster and he remains a low-end option in Fantasy IDP formats.
News: Jets DB Eric Smith recorded a season-high 10 tackles, including eight solo stops, during New York's 27-21 victory over San Diego in Week 7 on Sunday. Smith led the Jets in tackles as they held the visiting Jaguars scoreless in the second half.
Analysis: Smith has shined in a starting role and has 44 tackles this season. However, he remains an inconsistent Fantasy option despite some impressive tackles totals and owns just one interception. Fantasy owners should view him as a rising option in IDP formats.
News: Jets DB Eric Smith had his slowest game of the season in Week 6 against the Dolphins. He recorded just one tackle in the 24-6 win.
Analysis: Smith has recorded 34 tackles through the first six games and also has an interception to go with 1.5 sacks. With the stats he puts up as a Fantasy DB, continue to view him as a low-end option in IDP formats.
News: Jets coach Rex Ryan said recently re-signed Eric Smith will be a starter at safety opposite Jim Leonhard, replacing the departed Brodney Pool. Smith just re-signed with the team.
Analysis: Smith is very valuable to the Jets for his versatility on defense in Rex Ryan's attacking scheme, but he does not carry the same weight in Fantasy play. He should not be considered anything more than a marginal option unless he earns a starting spot at safety out of camp. If that is the case, Smith is worth a late-round pick in IDP formats for his play-making ability.
News: New York was able to re-sign DB Eric Smith on Friday, multiple sources reported. Smith is a key defensive reserve and special teams standout who made a career-high 54 tackles last season in 13 games. Smith's deal is for a reported three-years, though terms were not released.
News: New York DB Eric Smith was not active for Week 15. He's still recovering from a concussion he sustained in the Jets' 10-6 loss to the Miami Dolphins last Sunday. Smith has had two previous concussions.
Analysis: Smith being out leaves the secondary short-handed in Week 15. Fantasy owners in IDP leagues should keep him reserved until he's cleared to play. When healthy, Smith is a low-end DB option.
News: Safety Eric Smith will miss the New York Jets' game at Pittsburgh in Week 15 while recovering from a concussion. Smith, who has had at least two previous concussions, was hurt in the Jets' 10-6 loss to the Miami Dolphins last Sunday. Coach Rex Ryan says Wednesday that he doesn't "believe" Smith will play against the Steelers (10-3), leaving the Jets (9-4) short-handed again at safety.
Analysis: The NFL have very strict rules now in order for a player to suit up following a concussion. Most players miss at least a week. This is just a bad time for Smith to get injured with all the other injuries the Jets have at safety. He is more of a low-end Fantasy option when healthy.
News: The Jets lost DB Eric Smith with what coach Rex Ryan thinks could be a concussion in Week 14 against the Dolphins. Smith had four tackles on the day before getting injured.
Analysis: New York's secondary is banged up, so they need Smith back for Week 15 against Pittsburgh. For now, his Fantasy value is really low, so owners can continue to ignore him.
News: Jets S Eric Smith recorded his first sack of the season in Week 13 against the Patriots. Smith finished with seven tackles, six solo in the 45-3 loss and was also credited with a quarterback hit and pass defended.
Analysis: Smith is a good safety in run support, but he doesn't affect the passing game as a sacker or an interceptor. Continue to ignore him in Fantasy play heading into Week 14 against the Dolphins.
News: Jets DB Eric Smith led the team with eight solo tackles in the Week 12 win over the Bengals. He now has 41 on the year.
Analysis: Smith is a good safety in run support, but he doesn't affect the passing game as a sacker or an interceptor. Continue to ignore him in Fantasy play.
News: Jets DB Eric Smith left the Week 10 matchup against the Browns with a wrist injury. He had two tackles in the game.
Analysis: It is not yet clear whether Smith will be ready for Week 11 against Houston, but in any event, he does not produce enough to merit a roster spot in most IDP leagues.
News: Jets DB Eric Smith, who finished the Week 4 game against the Bills with two tackles, left the game with an injury. Smith was removed from the game with an illness.
Analysis: Smith has 20 tackles on the season over four games with no interceptions or sacks. He doesn't stat enough to matter in Fantasy IDP leagues heading into Week 5 against Minnesota.
News: Hard-hitting safety Eric Smith has signed his one-year tender offer with the Jets. The deal keeps Smith in the competition with the recently signed Brodney Pool and James Ihedigbo to replace Kerry Rhodes opposite Jim Leonhard in the Jets' secondary. Smith, 27, started last season when Rhodes was demoted by coach Rex Ryan for a few games. He finished with 48 tackles and an interception, and has four career picks.
Analysis: If Smith starts he could make for a sneaky Fantasy option in deeper IDP leagues this summer. Otherwise, he's not worth drafting.
News: Jets DL Shaun Ellis (knee), DB Jim Leonhard (thumb), DE Calvin Pace (shoulder) and DB Eric Smith (back) have all been listed as probable for the team's Week 13 game at Buffalo on Thursday.
Analysis: Ellis and Pace are decent low-end Fantasy options in IDP play and are safe to use for Thursday's game. Leonhard and Smith are just low-end options and can be ignored in basically all IDP formats.
News: The Jets had two players get two interceptions each Sunday against the Panthers in Darrelle Revis and Kerry Rhodes. Revis added two tackles also. Eric Smith and Jim Leonhard each had eight tackles, David Harris and Calvin Pace each had seven tackles and a sack and Bart Scott and Shaun Ellis each had four tackles.
Analysis: The Jets defense should play well again in Week 13 at Buffalo on Thursday night. Keep all of your regulars active against the Bills.
News: For the first time in his NFL career, Kerry Rhodes is no longer a starting safety. He's also not quite sure how much longer he'll be with the New York Jets after being demoted Wednesday by coach Rex Ryan in favor of Eric Smith. "I don't know," Rhodes said of his future with the team. "I didn't expect to be in this position, so I don't know." Rhodes has failed to be the playmaking presence Ryan expected when he compared him to Baltimore's Ed Reed in the offseason. Instead, Rhodes has struggled with no interceptions, sacks, forced fumbles or fumble recoveries. "Do I expect more of Kerry? I would say that's a true statement than what we're getting," Ryan said. "He probably expected more of himself also."
Analysis: Rhodes is definitely not worth ownership in the 24 percent of leagues he currently is. As a backup, his value in IDP leagues is almost non-existent. We also wouldn't recommend using Smith until he proves himself.
News: Jets safety Jim Leonhard had three pins inserted into his broken right thumb and his arm is in a sling, leaving his status for New York's game against New England uncertain. Coach Rex Ryan said Leonhard had surgery Monday night and didn't practice Wednesday, but wouldn't rule him out. "He's got three screws, I believe, so if they can tighten them up for this game, we'll see," Ryan said. "He's a tough kid, I'm just telling you. The average guy, there's no way he plays. But Jim Leonhard's not an average guy." If Leonhard can't play Sunday, Eric Smith would start in his place opposite Kerry Rhodes. Smith, who leads the team with 13 special teams tackles, has started 10 games and has four interceptions in three-plus seasons with the Jets. "It's a good opportunity to get out and play and get some more reps on the field," Smith said. "Hopefully we get Jim back, but if not, I'm going to be ready to play."
Analysis: Leonhard was injured during Maurice Jones-Drew's 33-yard touchdown run early in the first quarter of New York's 24-22 loss to Jacksonville on Sunday. He left briefly before returning with a cast on the hand, but was unable to handle his usual punt return duties. Leonhard is third on the team with 58 tackles, and has one interception and 1 1/2 sacks. He also makes the defensive calls, a duty that would fall to linebacker David Harris in Leonhard's absence. "If there's any way possible of him playing, I wouldn't be shocked," Ryan said. "But right now with him in a sling or a cast or three screws in his thumb, it wouldn't look good for the common person." Leonhard is a low-end Fantasy DB when healthy. Smith is merely a stopgap Fantasy option in larger IDP leagues. New York have a tough matchup this week in New England, so even if Leonhard was healthy, the Jets DST would still be a risky start.
News: Jets DB Eric Smith intercepted Titans QB Kerry Collins and recorded six tackles in a 24-17 Week 3 win over Tennessee.
Analysis: Smith is not a relevant Fantasy player and can be ignored in all formats until he starts picking off more passes.
News: The Jets listed the following players as inactive for Week 13 vs. Denver: QB Brett Ratliff (third QB), K Mike Nugent, WR David Clowney, RB Marcus Mason, DB Drew Coleman, DB Eric Smith, LB David Harris and TE Bubba Franks.
Analysis: None of the players on this list should be considered viable Fantasy option. They are not in a position to contribute regular stats as they aren't in line for regular playing time. They've got some depth chart climbing to do and should be left on the waiver wire.
News: Jets kicker Mike Nugent will miss another week of action as he's inactive against the Titans in Tennessee in Week 12. Jay Feely continues to start in his place. The rest of the Jets inactives are as follows: QB Brett Ratliff (3rd QB), WR David Clowney, RB Marcus Mason, DB Drew Coleman, DB Eric Smith, LB David Harris and TE Bubba Franks.
Analysis: Feely has become a viable Fantasy option in Nugent's absence and should be used as a stopgap option until he is replaced by Nugent, who should be kept reserved in Fantasy until further notice. The rest of the players mentioned above have no Fantasy value at this time and should remain off Fantasy rosters.
News: The Jets will be without kicker Mike Nugent again in Week 11 at New England as he's inactive for his ninth straight game with a thigh injury. Jay Feely continues to start, and play well, in his place. New York also listed the following other players as inactive for Week 11: QB Brett Ratliff (3rd QB), WR David Clowney, RB Marcus Mason, CB Drew Coleman, S Eric Smith, LB David Harris and TE Bubba Franks.
Analysis: With the kicking duties in New York up in the air, figure Feely and Nugent both are risky starts in Week 11 and beyond until one of them is cut. The rest of the players mentioned above have no Fantasy value at this time and should remain off Fantasy rosters.
News: Jets TE Bubba Franks (hip) and S Eric Smith (head) have been ruled out for Week 11's game at New England on Thursday. Neither player will play.
Analysis: Both of these players have minimal Fantasy value and should not be used even when healthy. Consider other options.
News: The following Jets were limited or did not take part in practice Tuesday leading up to Thursday's game against the Jets: TE Bubba Franks (hip), WR Brad Smith (shoulder), PK Mike Nugent (thigh), S Eric Smith (head) and LB Cody Spencer (shoulder).
Analysis: All of these players have minimal Fantasy value and should not be used in Week 11 even when healthy.
News: The Jets list the following players as being inactive and out for Week 10 against the St. Louis Rams: QB Brett Ratliff (3rd QB), WR David Clowney, DB Justin Miller, RB Marcus Mason, DB Eric Smith, LB David Harris and TE Bubba Franks.
Analysis: Most of these players are either reserves, play on special teams or aren't an integral part of the Jets' offense. They have little to no Fantasy value at this time.
News: Starting safety Eric Smith will not play against the Rams in Week 10 after not practicing all week.
Analysis: Smith doesn't post enough stats to warrant use in Fantasy play. Keep him off of rosters until further notice.
News: The Jets travel to Buffalo for a Week 9 matchup and have listed the following players as being inactive for the game: K Mike Nugent, WR David Clowney, DB Justin Miller, RB Marcus Mason, DB Eric Smith, LB David Harris, TE Bubba Franks and QB Brett Ratliff (3rd QB).
Analysis: Most of these players are either reserves, play on special teams or aren't an integral part of the Jets' offense. They have little to no Fantasy value at this time. The one exception is Nugent, however, he really hasn't viable since draft day.
News: Starting safety Eric Smith, who had two concussions in three weeks and was pulled late in the first half Sunday after taking a glancing blow, will not play against the Bills after not practicing all week. Coach Eric Mangini said earlier in the week that Smith did not suffer another concussion, but the team took him out against Kansas City for precautionary reasons. James Ihedigbo, signed from the practice squad Wednesday, could see some time at safety with starter Kerry Rhodes and Abram Elam, along with cornerbacks David Barrett and Hank Poteat.
Analysis: Smith doesn't post enough stats to warrant use in Fantasy play. Keep him off of rosters until further notice.
News: Jets DB Eric Smith, who has had two concussions in the last month, was taken out of the game Week 8 against the Chiefs in the second half as a precaution. His availability for Week 9 at Buffalo is uncertain, according to coach Eric Mangini.
Analysis: Smith doesn't do enough statistically to matter in Fantasy. This injury has no bearing.
News: Jets coach Eric Mangini confirmed Thursday that safety Eric Smith suffered his second concussion in three weeks and his status for Week 8 is unclear. He was limited in practice for the second day in a row on Thursday.
Analysis: Smith is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy IDP option in leagues that use them if he's healthy. The Jets play Kansas City in Week 8.
News: Jets DB Eric Smith has come off the reserve/suspended list and is expected to be active for Week 7 against the Raiders. Smith served a one-game suspension Week 7 against the Bengals for his helmet-to-helmet hit Week 4 on Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin.
Analysis: Smith is still baffled on why he got suspended and fined heavily for his hit, although it wasn't intentional. But his appeal was denied and he has served his time. It's safe to once again use Smith in Fantasy IDP leagues, but he is nothing more than a low-end option.
News: Jets DB Eric Smith appealed his one-game suspension and $50,000 fine by the NFL for his helmet-to-helmet hit Week 4 on Arizona receiver Anquan Boldin. Coach Eric Mangini said Smith was going through the appeal process Monday, and a ruling was expected Tuesday. "Nothing has been finalized with that yet," Mangini said. "It still has to go through the appeal process."
Analysis: If the suspension is upheld, Smith would have to sit out the Jets' game Sunday against the Bengals. Still, he is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy DB when healthy.
News: Hours after Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt called for the NFL to review a helmet-to-helmet hit by Jets DB Eric Smith on Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin, the Jets safety was suspended for one game. Smith also was fined $50,000 for a flagrant violation of player safety rules, the league said late Monday.
Analysis: Whisenhunt said he believed the hit violated the safety edict issued by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, but he stopped short of calling for Smith to be suspended. "I think it's one of the hits that falls into the category of being dangerous to players," Whisenhunt said Monday. "Certainly, I'm sure that the league is going to look at this and will address it." Smith has stepped into a starting free safety role for the Jets and has had solid results in the first few weeks. Still, he is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy DB when healthy. Since the Jets have a bye in Week 5, he won't return until Week 7 at Oakland.
News: Jets DB Eric Smith had two tackles, two pass defenses and one interception before leaving the game Week 4 against the Cardinals with a head injury. Smith was injured with 27 seconds left as he landed a helmet-to-helmet hit Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin. Smith was down for a few minutes, but was able to walk off the field. Boldin had to be strapped to a backboard and be carted off.
Analysis: Smith has 17 tackles in four games, but got his first interception Week 4 since 2006. Smith has stepped into a starting free safety role for the Jets and has had solid results in the first few weeks. Still, he is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy DB when healthy. The Jets are on a bye Week 5.
News: Jets DB Eric Smith had a team-high nine tackles (five solo) in a Week 2 loss to the Patriots. He also had one tackle for loss and got one of his tackles on special teams.
Analysis: Smith has stepped into a starting free safety role for the Jets and has had solid results in the first two weeks (13 tackles). He remains a low-end Fantasy DB, but is definitely some to keep an eye on.
News: Jets starting safety Erik Coleman is doubtful for New York's game against the Giants on Sunday because of a concussion. Coleman, who wasn't in the locker room during media availability all week, started the Jets' first four games and leads the team with 35 tackles. Eric Smith would likely get the start if Coleman can't play, with Rashad Washington and Abram Elam filling in. "I've really liked what I've seen from him since he got here and his approach," Mangini said of Smith. "He's a very tough player. He has a nice combination of size and the ability to play in the deep part of the field."
Analysis: Smith, a third-round pick out of Michigan State last year, was pushing Coleman for the starting spot before injuring his right hamstring a few days before the preseason opener against Atlanta in August. Smith had 16 tackles and two interceptions last season, working mostly in nickel and dime packages as well as special teams. He has just four tackles this season. Even if he starts Sunday, he is nothing more than a possible stopgap Fantasy option.
News: Jets DB Eric Smith (thigh, questionable) was active in Week4 at Buffalo.
Analysis: Smith is not a viable IDP Fantasy option at this time. Ignore him.
News: The Jets inactives for Week 1 include QB Marques Tuiasosopo, DB Andre Dyson, DB Eric Smith, RB Darian Barnes, DL Mike Devito, TE Jason Pociask and WR Chansi Stuckey.
Analysis: None of these players have any Fantasy value and should all be reserved in Week 1.
News:The Sports Xchange reports Jets DB Eric Smith (hamstring) was limited in practice Wednesday, but is expected to play Week 1 vs. New England.
Analysis: Smith should be fine for the start of the season unless further information is released in the coming days. He has minimal Fantasy value and can be ignored in most IDP leagues.
News: Jets RB Thomas Jones (calf), DB Justin Miller (hamstring) and DB Eric Smith (leg) all missed Thursday's preseason game against the Eagles.
Analysis: Smith should be fine for the start of the season unless further information is released in the coming days. He has minimal Fantasy value now and should not be drafted in any leagues.
News: Jets RB Thomas Jones (calf), DB Justin Miller (hamstring) and DB Eric Smith (leg) all missed Saturday's preseason game against the Giants.
Analysis: Continue to monitor Smith's status during the preseason, but he should be fine for the start of the season unless further information is released in the coming days. He has minimal Fantasy value now and should not be drafted in any leagues.
News: The Jets played without RB Thomas Jones (calf), DB Justin Miller (hamstring) and DB Eric Smith (leg) during Friday's preseason game against the Vikings.
Analysis: Continue to monitor Smith's status during the preseason, but he should be fine for the start of the season unless further information is released in the coming days. He has minimal Fantasy value now and should not be drafted in any leagues.
News: FS Eric Smith (leg) suffered a possible hamstring or knee injury two days before the Atlanta game and didn't play, reports The Sports Xchange.
Analysis: Continue to monitor Smith's status during the preseason, but he should be fine for the start of the season unless further information is released in the coming days. He has minimal Fantasy value now and should not be drafted in any leagues.
News: New York Jets safety Eric Smith, competing with Erik Coleman for a starting spot opposite Kerry Rhodes, was carted off the field during the morning practice Wednesday with an injured right leg. The team was working on the muddy grass field when Smith, who has looked good in training camp, went down after apparently slipping. The second-year player was helped to a cushion under one of the goal posts and couldn't put any weight on the leg.
Analysis: Continue to monitor Smith's status during the preseason, but he should be fine for the start of the season unless further information is released in the coming days. He has minimal Fantasy value now and should not be drafted in any leagues.
News: Jets RB James Hodgins (knee), DB David Barrett (hip), DB Andre Dyson (knee), DL Dewayne Robertson (knee), RB B.J. Askew (foot) and DB Kerry Rhodes (knee) are questionable, while DB Eric Smith (foot), DL Bryan Thomas (shoulder) and LB Matt Chatham (personal) are probable for Wild Card game at New England.
Analysis: None of these players should be used in Fantasy postseason play.
News: Jets RB James Hodgins (knee), DB Eric Smith (foot), DB Kerry Rhodes (knee), RB B.J. Askew (foot), DB Andre Dyson (knee) and DB David Barrett (hip) are questionable, while LB Matt Chatham (foot), QB Patrick Ramsey (calf), DL Bryan Thomas (shoulder) and DL Rashard Moore (hamd) are listed as probable for Week 17 vs. Oakland.
Analysis: Only Rhodes, Dyson and Thomas should be used in Fantasy leagues for Week 17. Ignore the other injured players.
News: The Jets' weekly laundry list of nicked up players include: FB B.J. Askew (foot), CB David Barrett (hip), WR Laveranues Coles (back), RB Cedric Houston (calf), LB Anthony Schlegel (illness), DB Eric Smith (foot), RB Kevan Barlow (calf), LB Matt Chatham (foot), WR Justin McCareins (foot), DL Rashad Moore (hand), QB Chad Pennington (calf), DE/LB Bryan Thomas (shoulder), DB Jamie Thompson (ankle) and WR Wallace Wright (thigh). Askew, Barrett, Coles, Houston, Schlegel and Smith are questionable and did not practice on Wednesday; the rest of the gang did practice on Wednesday and are listed as probable.
Analysis: Outside of Pennington, Coles and Houston, not many of these guys have a significant role in Fantasy play and shouldn't be active for use in Week 16 at Miami.
News: The Jets' weekly laundry list of nicked up players include: FB B.J. Askew (foot), CB David Barrett (hip), LB Matt Chatham (foot), DB Eric Smith (foot), DE/LB Bryan Thomas (shoulder), RB Kevan Barlow (calf), LB Brad Kassell (shin), WR Justin McCareins (foot), DL Rashad Moore (hand), QB Chad Pennington (calf), DL Dewayne Robertson (shoulder), TE Sean Ryan (thigh), WR Brad Smith (shoulder) DB Jamie Thompson (ankle) and DL Kimo von Oelhoffen (shoulder). Askew, Barrett, Chatham, Smith and Thomas are questionable and did not practice on Wednesday; the rest of the gang did practice on Wednesday and are listed as probable.
Analysis: Outside of Pennington, not many of these guys have a significant role in Fantasy play. Barlow and McCareins are fringe longshots to get minimal stats in Week 15 since the Jets will likely pass early and often against the Vikings. Otherwise, ignore the rest of this group.
News: The New York Jets announced FB B.J. Askew (foot), RB Kevan Barlow (calf), RB Derrick Blaylock, QB Kellen Clemens, DL Rashad Moore, LB Ryan Riddle and S Eric Smith are inactive for Week 14 against the Bills.
Analysis: None of the players mentioned above are useful options for Fantasy leagues in Week 15 at Minnesota.
News: Jets RB B.J. Askew (foot), DB David Barrett (hip), LB Matt Chatham (foot), DB Eric Smith (foot), DL Bryan Thomas (shoulder) and DB Rashad Washington (illness) are questionable, while DB Andre Dyson (thigh), DL Shaun Ellis (ankle), WR Justin McCareins (foot), DL Rashad Moore (hand) and WR Brad Smith (shoulder) are listed as probable for Week 14 vs. Buffalo.
Analysis: Thomas, Dyson and Ellis could all be used as low-end Fantasy options for Week 14. The other injured players are not recommended Fantasy options in IDP leagues.
News: Jets RB B.J. Askew (foot), DB David Barrett (hip), WR Tim Dwight (thigh), DL Rashad Moore (hand), DB Eric Smith (foot) and DL Bryan Thomas (shoulder) are questionable, while LB Matt Chatham (foot), DB Andre Dyson (neck), WR Justin McCareins (foot) and DL Dewayne Robertson (foot) are listed as probable for Week 13 at Green Bay.
Analysis: Thomas should be the only player worth using for Fantasy purposes in Week 13. All the other injured players are not recommended Fantasy options at this time.
News: The Browns racked up 267 total yards against the Jets in Week 8, but did a majority of the damage on the ground with 147 yards. The Jets defense managed to get three sacks (LB Eric Barton, LB/DL Bryan Thomas, Drew Coleman) and one interception (DB Eric Smith). Barton led the team with 10 tackles. The Jets DST got a boost thanks to Justin Miller, who returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. His second kickoff return for a touchdown this season and his third in the past nine games dating back to last season.
Analysis: The Jets DST has not been a Fantasy favorite in 2006. The Jets often have to outscore their opponents to win as the defense struggles to learn the 3-4 defense. They are usually not a recommended Fantasy DST. Barton and Thomas are suitable Fantasy IDP options. Miller is definitely worth adding to your team if you are in a league that rewards heavily for return yards. The Jets are on a bye in Week 9.
News: Jets RB B.J. Askew (foot) and WR Tim Dwight (thigh) are listed as questionable, while DL Dave Ball (hand), LB Matt Chatham (foot), DL Bobby Hamilton (knee), FB James Hodgins (knee), DB Justin Miller (hip), DL Rashad Moore (personal), TE Sean Ryan (chest), WR Brad Smith (thigh), DB Eric Smith (knee) and DL Kimo von Oelhoffen (knee) are listed as probable for Week 6 vs. Miami.
Analysis: None of these players have much Fantasy value at this time. Keep them reserved for Fantasy purposes in Week 6.
News: Jets DL Dave Ball (hand), LB Matt Chatham (foot), DL Bobby Hamilton (knee), FB James Hodgins (knee), CB Justin Miller (hip), WR Brad Smith (thigh), DB Eric Smith (knee) and DL Kimo von Oelhoffen (knee) are listed as probable for Week 5 at Jacksonville.
Analysis: Most of these guys are role players for the Jets or don't accumulate enough stats on a weekly basis to warrant Fantasy consideration.
News: The Jets have agreed to a deal with third-round pick Eric Smith, a safety from Michigan State. He will battle for a reserve FS role behind Erik Coleman this summer.
Analysis: Smith should be ignored in all drafts since he probably won't play except on special teams in 2006. He does happen to be a high-tackle guy (two 100-plus tackle seasons with the Spartans), but he will be nothing more than an insurance policy in case Coleman gets hurt -- and that's if he beats out Rashad Washington for the backup spot.
