Jordan Matthews sees larger role than Brad Smith in opener

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(8/9/2014) Though Brad Smith was listed on the depth chart  ahead of Jordan Matthews, it was Matthews who played a bigger role in the Eagles' first preseason game against the Bears Friday.

Smith had just one reception for 4 yards in the game, while Matthews led the team with seven targets. He brought in four of those passes but managed to rack up just 14 yards, with a long reception of 5 yards.

Smith and Matthews are fighting for the No. 3 receiver job in camp.

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(8/4/2014) Eagles rookie Jordan Matthews is widely expected to serve as the No. 3 receiver, but the team's first depth chart lists veteran Brad Smith ahead of Matthews, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer. by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer

(8/10/2013) Bills wide receiver Brad Smith did not travel with the team and has been ruled out of Sunday's preseason opener against the Colts with an undisclosed injury, according to the official team website.

Brad Smith will fight for job

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/1/2013) Bills receiver Brad Smith will have to compete for his roster spot in training camp, reports the team's official website.

The report says the Bills will have to weigh whether his value as a veteran receiver is needed for this roster and the passing game to flourish. The long term upside of several of the young wideouts might be superior to that of Smith.

The good news for Smith is he's done a good job during offseason workouts. He also has not worked at all at quarterback given his history of running the wildcat.

Brad Smith just playing receiver

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/21/2013) Bills receiver Brad Smith has been used exclusively at receiver during offseason workouts and hasn't worked with the quarterbacks at all. The Buffalo News reports new offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett views Smith just as a receiver.

"It seems like every year it’s something different," Smith said. "I'm glad I can do other things. Bottom line, I want to get on the field and make plays to help my team win.”

The Bills revamped their receiving corps in the offseason with the additions of Robert Woods, Marquise Goodwin and Da'Rick Rogers, who is an undrafted free agent. Woods and Goodwin join Steve Johnson as being regarded as locks for the 53-man roster, leaving Smith to compete with Rogers and holdovers T.J. Graham and Marcus Easley for potentially two or three spots.

He posted two receptions for 26 yards on six targets from quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
