Saints lock up Zach Strief for five years

(3/17/2014) Saints right tackle Zach Strief on Monday will re-sign with the team for five years, reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune. He became a starter in 2011 and is coming off perhaps his best season.

The deal averages $4.1 million annually, with Strief getting $8.5 million guaranteed.

(3/14/2014) Free agent offensive tackle Zach Strief told the Dolphins he decided not to visit them and didn't give an explanation, according to the Miami Herald. Strief could be close to a deal with another team or simply did not have interest in playing for the Dolphins. Strief has spent the past eight seasons with the Saints, starting every game he's been healthy for over the past three years.

(2/2/2014) There's a "strong chance" the Saints will not be able to keep right tackle Zach Strief, reports ESPN. The 30-year-old impending free agent could start for just about anyone, and "another team might offer more money than the Saints can afford to match," the report said.

Restricted free agent Bryce Harris, 25, is one potential replacement, according to the report.

(12/6/2013) Saints DT Brodrick Bunkley, T Zach Strief, S Rafael Bush, LB Keyunta Dawson and DE Glenn Foster are questionable Week 14 against the Panthers. 

Bunkley and Strief were able to participate in limited practice Friday. Bush, Dawson and Foster did not practice Friday.


Zach Strief's injury not as bad as feared

(12/4/2013) Saints right tackle Zach Strief would not have been able to participate had the team practiced Wednesday, but he said the ankle injury he suffered Monday in Seattle is not too serious.

“We’ll see,” Strief said, per ESPN.com. “I’m not a guy that has to be 100 percent; I’m a bad enough athlete. I think it scared me a good bit on the field, but it’s not as bad as it could have been.”

Still, Strief's availability for Week 14 vs. Carolina is uncertain.
